Sunday afternoon.
Yeah.
Guess what flew out of the little food plot?
Turkey buzzard.
Nope.
Turkeys.
Five of them.
You turkey.
Five big old hens.
Hens?
Pretty thing.
I like him.
I'm going to eat so much turkey on Thanksgiving.
I'm going to eat so much duck and dressing on a wool.
I ain't going to eat any turkey.
I'm going to eat one green wing.
I'm going to eat one green wing till and I'm going to eat about four pounds or maybe five of dressing.
No, I'm going to eat about seven pounds of turkey skin.
Oh.
Forget that.
Forget that.
Forget that.
Forget you, sir.
I don't know.
I told you what I'm wheat.
I'm going to eat about five pounds.
I'm going to skin the turkey and I'm going to dough pop at ham.
He's going to do pop out ham.
I like turkey the most.
I like the ham.
I like turkey, but I love the skin, but I love that ham.
I'm going to goop at dressing boys.
What's your least favorite food when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner?
That cranberry canned stuff?
No.
Oh, that's good.
Oh.
What are you talking about?
The jello stuff?
That's a gar.
No.
I don't like English peas.
Berries.
Cram.
You don't like English.
What berries?
The cranberry berries.
Yeah.
The cranberries are a thing.
I don't eat them really, but I'm talking like, you know, like that, you know,
whenever they open the sauce and in the shape of the can, it goes.
And it still got, like, the ridges off.
Yeah.
Perfect.
That's disgusting.
You cut that up and you put that on your dressing.
The ridge of the can is your serving size.
Yeah.
I don't know that I've ever tried it.
You couldn't.
Hey, about.
quarter or a half inch.
I don't like cranberry jelly either.
Oh, hey, I love it.
And he don't like English peas.
No, English peas are a guard.
I like the berries.
I like the berries.
English, look.
The berry, what do you mean berries?
There's berries in the cranberry.
In that red sauce that you see?
Yeah, there's a little.
In the can?
Hey, look, they come in just a whole, like a bowl of berries.
You know, you can just buy cranberries.
Those are, those are kind of make you, no.
I like it.
And you can mix it.
with a bunch of different things
and keep your urinary track very healthy
cranberry juice
I do like cranberries
I'm in on everything
cranberry except for that jelly
but you haven't tried it
yeah but I just can't do it
he hadn't tried it he just don't like the thought of it
you heard him say when it comes out
it's like
yeah it's like it's that same
it's that same noise spam
makes when it exits the can
now if you cook spam right
I'm interested
No, no, I'm fix things.
Oh, I love for that.
You fry spam, it's good.
Okay.
I'm going to have another.
I don't know about that.
Yeah.
No, no, you fry spam.
I might cut it a quartering,
quartering stick and frat.
When did mac and cheese become a Thanksgiving food?
Oh, hey, mac and cheese has always been a good food.
When a human population started reproducing at an alarming rate,
and folks quit making their kids having no thank you portion.
That's right, boys.
I don't understand anything that you just said.
To pacify children and shut them up.
That's what it was.
See,
I'm not a big, can I say it?
I'm not a big mac and cheese guy.
On like Thanksgiving?
I'm not either.
I'm not either.
I make great homemade mac and cheese.
That's what I'm saying.
Where you make like the little.
You don't know what you're missing.
No, hers is great.
You make the little rue with a heavy cream.
You basically make a gravy and throw it over noodles.
He's even leftovers and it's cold the next day.
That's why he don't love it.
I like that.
Well, at my in-laws.
Now Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving ain't a time for Velvita.
Leave that trash out.
If you ain't going to make you mac and cheese homemade, don't bring it.
See, I'm down with mac and cheese.
But I feel like that's just...
He's down like a rodeo clown, boy.
It's just not a Thanksgiving food.
No, Thanksgiving for me is turkey.
Yes.
Ham.
Got to have the ham.
Dressing.
Nah.
No, dressing's fine.
Oh, you got to have it.
You got to have it.
You got to have it.
Crescent rolls.
Roles.
Homemade rolls, preferably.
Yeast rolls.
We should rank all of the turp.
But then, like, all your other stuff, like green bean casserole, kind of a gar.
It's really a thing.
There's one row that you buy is good.
Sister Schubert.
Sister Shoebys?
Hawaiian.
They're little, they're squares.
Yeah, that's him.
Sister Schubert.
They're good.
Old sister got it going on.
Oh, no.
She's got a devil good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sister got, sister to real deal now.
Yeah.
See, but like green bean cassero?
Gar.
Gar.
No, I'll take it.
I mean, I'll eat it, but it really.
Overall, it's a gar.
But like, in
English peas?
All of a gar.
No.
I'll take it.
I'm not a casserole, man.
I ain't either.
But like hash brown casserole,
if somebody wants to throw that out there Thanksgiving,
I'm interested.
Now, hash browns,
cheese, a little dice,
done, and some bacon.
Some people,
I'm reading a list right now.
And this has Thanksgiving sides ranked
and they put number one as mashed potatoes.
Gar.
I like a mashed potato,
but that's not a Thanksgiving, too.
No, dressing takes a place of mashed potatoes.
I think, say, there's a time for max.
Because you got to have the giblet gravy to go on a dress.
So now I will say this.
My number one, Thanksgiving food, that's not the turkey and the ham, is sweet potato.
Oh.
Or just sweet potatoes.
Candy sweet potatoes.
Yeah.
Oh, no.
They taste like, it's a dessert.
One pound of sugar and two sticks of butter.
And a little cinnamon.
And a bunch of pecans.
Man makes some bad sweet potato stuff.
Yeah.
So sweet potatoes.
Oh, yeah.
They're in.
They're in.
Like, that's all I'm going to.
They have to lose all resemblance of health.
Oh, yeah.
They have to be a guilty pleasure.
Well, hold it.
A tub of butter.
Nope.
With sweet potatoes, they're healthy.
Not when you put a pound of sugar and two sticks of butter.
Not how I do it.
And then cover them in marshmallows and toast them.
Mark, now you don't make it one that ain't healthy.
Okay.
But normally, sweet potatoes are healthy.
Yeah.
But not for Thanksgiving.
But then you always eat.
Well, when you put the butter and the marshmallows and all that and all.
cinnamon and sugar.
And we've discussed pies, right?
Thanksgiving pies?
All of them.
Preferably pecan.
Martin?
I'm a pecan man.
Coganut.
Look at the screen.
Yeah.
That baby right there is 4499.
And I was going to buy it.
That right there is Jason's favorite.
Sweet potato.
No, that's a Recy peanut butter cup, meat.
That is a, that Hershey's made a Reese's cup.
I look like a potato.
What is it?
Like three pounds?
It's three, yeah.
It's the size of a pie for Thanksgiving.
Yeah.
And they sold out of them like a bunch of...
$45.
I saw it.
I was going to...
$45 for that?
For three pounds of peanut butter.
Oh, I wouldn't do that.
Oh, buddy.
This new TV's got me off.
I'd put that sucker in the refrigerator and cut me off a slice every time I went by.
Every went by that.
Oh, it wouldn't make it past lunch.
You'd be like Christine on that, on that bread pudding that I got from...
She couldn't get off of it.
Oh, I.
Now, Philip, for real.
Now we're talking Thanksgiving.
Philip.
How long do you eat Thanksgiving leftovers for?
When do you draw the last?
Hold on.
I said yes to every food y'all brought up.
There was no nose coming through my mind.
I'm like, yes, yes, yes.
You know one we always had was chicken and dumplings for Thanksgiving, too?
Oh, yeah.
Really?
Yep.
Never done that.
Miss Kay makes them bad to the bone, too.
Well, we'll eat it all week long.
Yep.
Until it's gone?
Yeah, till it's gone.
Yeah, till it's gone, boys.
Martin, how crazy are you feeling?
Not for 450.
On eBay right now, you can go get the Reese's peanut butter pie for how much?
For $450.
That's probably your mama's account.
We've been known to make a little eBay money.
Well, let's just get you some peanut butter and Reese's cups.
I think at that point you got to make it yourself.
Oh, man.
They're really, truly, though, like, the coolest thing about Thanksgiving growing up was going to the hunting camp after.
As soon as it was over and then you ate leftovers till Sunday night when you got home to go.
back to school on Monday.
By that time, though, you was like, yeah, about that dressing?
No, I'm done with him.
Oh, I ain't never done with dressing.
No, I love it.
Cornbread dressing.
It's always good.
I ain't never done with me.
Golly.
Now, I know you joke with me, but have you seen
Si when he eats anything all the way down to the very last bit?
He turns up his bowl.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, he, whatever it is.
Oh, no.
The best part.
That's what that little shelf about his midsection is for right there.
Yeah.
No, no.
The horse to catch it.
Set it's gold.
He'll eat it.
No, no, no.
Hey, that's where it's perfectly salt and peppered.
When you're down to the end of the plate.
That's the best bite, huh?
He's been trying to get that bite the whole time.
That's the best part.
That's when I take that roll and do a little sopage.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
You know, just kind of scoot up to me.
No, no, that was the neatest thing about being in Germany, okay?
The Crescent rolls?
Rolling one up.
No, no, no.
Bread.
Okay.
But every, every restaurant in Germany makes their own, uh,
uh, hussing fever dressing for salads.
Oh.
Okay.
Every, every restaurant makes their own.
150 different kinds of vinegar.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
Look, hey, always one restaurant with, we're going there.
I'd order salad a big one.
A big one.
Most times you bring you a little bitty thing.
Nobody wants that.
No, no.
I come around and say, hey, no.
I want a serious shot of it.
That's for these other guys.
Size is the one that started Olive Garden.
And I want some serious, you know, dressing on this thing.
Because then at the end up, like you're talking about, I'd take the roll.
And, hey, that thing will be clean as a whistle for it.
I left.
Clean with a whistle.
I said, hey, you need to tell me how to make your dressing.
It's just like a biscuit on that runny yoke of an egg.
Oh, no, no, no.
No.
Praise God.
That's what I'm getting.
No, no, that's what I had the other morning at Tim's house.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, your cousin, Tim?
Yep, yep.
And Vivian, okay.
He fried me up two eggs over easy, and we had biscuits, okay.
I missed biscuits.
It was good.
Sop and yoke up.
Oh, no, no.
I'm cleaning the plate with that biscuits.
Oh, yeah.
I miss biscuits.
I like an egg yolk about like I like a steak.
Just run it by the fire.
It'll be a eye.
You ain't got to leave it in a lot.
No, no, no.
I like mine.
I like the white, firm.
No, that white can still even be a little snobacco.
Oh, no, no, no.
No, no.
That's disgusting.
With the egg yolk.
Don't bother me at all.
Man, likes a raw egg.
Leave that album in a little runny.
I like raw eggs, too, when it's in cookie dough.
That's the way Rocky ate it.
Raw.
I just like an egg.
But, hey, Tim, Tim and his wife can cook some good breakfast.
I'm trying to think who was.
Oh, that's the other thing you got it.
Oh, I guess that was one of my uncle.
Devil's eggs.
One of my uncle would get up.
I get that every week.
Grab him a couple of eggs,
pop it on the glass,
drop it on the glass, drop it in there,
pop it on the glass,
drop it in there, two of them.
And then drink them.
No, I need it run by the fire.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
And it ain't got to stay there long,
but I need it run by it.
He's done that every morning.
Yeah.
Just ate two raw eggs.
I guess it's about like eating a raw oyster.
Hey, drank a black water.
I guess like eating a raw oyster.
Just down the house.
I can't handle that.
What, a raw oyster?
A raw, no.
I don't even like that.
I don't even like them cooked.
I don't know.
I don't know what everybody likes oysters for.
Yeah, they're good.
Oh, no, they're horrible.
Get you good cocktail sauce and a whole bunch of horse rangers.
That'd be like having a bad cold and blowing snob.
Oh, gosh.
Let's let you get a refill on that cup of tea.
Not what he said in the last break.
All right, look, springtime is here.
It's warming up.
You know what that means?
That means more outside cooking.
And y'all know, we love to eat beef around here.
And that's what because of our friends over at Trial's beef
make such a good product, baby.
Ain't it good?
It's so good.
Our friend, Sal Robertson would say,
bye on the grill!
Look, before we got Tritels, getting ready for a cookout,
man, somebody had to run the grocery store,
do all the things,
grab whatever was left in case you were late in the day.
And you never really know where that beef comes from.
But with Tritales beef,
we skip the grocery store and do it a different way.
Tritales comes from a family ranch out in Texas.
They're a fifth generation American ranch,
so they've been at it for a while.
Now look, the beef comes straight from their ranch and other ranchers they work with who raise cattle the same way.
Their steaks are properly aged and shipped straight from the ranch to your door.
We threw a couple of ribbys on the grill.
Look, salt, pepper, garlic, hot fire, that's all you need.
Look, because I'll tell you what, when the beef comes from people who raise cattle for a living,
you can taste the difference.
The tenderness and the flavor are fantastic.
So if you're stocking the freezer for grilling season, go check out Tritale's beef.
I know in size case Christine loves it, which is just a, she doesn't eat meat.
She ain't a big meat easier, folks.
Yeah.
Just go to trybeef.com slash.
That's trybeef.com slash support ranch families and eat some dang good steak.
Can I tell you some really good news?
Yes.
In there on my desk in my office?
Uh-oh.
Is there something for me?
There's a Christmas tree cake.
Oh.
Have you had the ice cream?
No, I haven't found it.
He ain't found it.
No, they were out.
Brittany went that day.
Oh, yeah.
Hey.
Last podcast, Brittany went.
No, they were out.
That peg or that little section of shelf was gone.
So, you know, there's a shortage of everything.
Then I tried to slick them and get online for pickup, you know, because it showed in stock.
Oh, good idea.
I'm going to do it right now.
Well, look, but here's a problem.
So I said, add the cart.
I went to check out.
I went to check out.
I said, out of stop.
It showed in to get you in on their website.
And then they went out.
They'll make a change.
You can do because it's at Walmart.
Yeah, because that's Walmart.
Out of stop.
Sorry, we had to substitute.
Well, see, the cool thing when you do Walmart online,
if they substitute, they give you the next size up.
Problem is, with that little Debbie Christmas tree cake ice cream is only one side.
Oh, look, I found the most popular Thanksgiving side in every state.
What?
And ours is different.
Jumb alive.
The most popular Thanksgiving side dish.
In every single state.
Hold on.
What could it be?
Jumballi.
What could it be?
Jumb Lime?
Dirty rice.
So eggs over easy
Cheezer. Nope, eggs are sunny side up.
Yeah, we've eggs are Thanksgiving sides.
Hey, look at him, he's serious.
Hey, I got hung up on the eggs on your deal the other day.
So most popular, I'm guessing overall mashed potatoes.
No.
Well, mashed potatoes, California, Nevada,
all the weirdos are eating mashed potatoes.
Colorado.
This is the one time of year they can have cars.
Yeah.
Illinois.
That's the most favorite side.
All the people that voted for Brandon are eating matches.
And blue states like a Taders.
West Virginia, West Virginia with the hard hitting rolls.
Oh, wow.
I don't know how they came up with this.
That's the way they're going.
Alabama, God bless them, sweet potato casserole.
I'm in.
Tennessee and Kentucky, Hash Brown.
Oh, hash brown.
Casserol.
Sorry, I just saw something that super disturbed me.
Missouri and Minnesota, literally it says,
charcutory tray.
They got a lunchable
for Thanksgiving?
Good for them.
What a bunch of...
Whatever happened to Minnesota, nice.
Whatever happened to Minnesota nice.
Alaska stuffed mushrooms.
I don't know what y'all are doing up there, but I'm in.
New Jersey is stuffed mushrooms as well.
But we are the only state
in this great union
that has cornbread dressing as our number one
side. And praise God for that.
That is us, baby.
Praise God.
Cornbread dressing is family.
What is the side dish?
Everybody's so fabulous.
Cornbread dressing, I guess.
That's our favorite one here in Louisiana.
You know the beauty of cornbread dressing is you can put any protein you desire in it and it's solid.
You just shove it in there.
Crawfish?
Okay.
And then you shove that in a turkey?
Yeah.
Pork sausage.
Okay.
John Madden had it right.
Picky.
On that turduckin bag.
And shoved cornbread dressing in the chur-duck chicken.
Yeah, turduck.
I made a turkey last two years ago with all that.
It's something like Willie's Facebook or something.
Yeah.
With the crawfish cornbread dressing.
Yeah, when we all did that one for Thanksgiving.
It had crawled fish and undue his sausage in it.
Oh, praise the Lord.
It's good.
It's solid.
That goes wind.
Yeah, it's fire.
Yeah.
So, I mean, that's the beauty.
Yeah, cornbread dressing is like.
Yeah, it's a great vehicle for anything.
You really can't screw it up.
Kind of like rice, though.
I mean, rice is the same way.
Yep.
Picky protein, throw it in a pot of rice and go with it.
Yeah, and then mix it up with something and that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's a good way.
Delaware's favorite is cauliflower mashed potatoes.
There you go.
Hey, good work, Brandon.
There you go.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
That is again, boys.
That makes a lot of sense.
Makes sense, don't.
The state of New York is sweet potatoes with.
with marshmallows.
Oh, that's good?
Hey, what are you doing?
That's like sweet potato casserole.
You got him rubbing his belly when he's just sweet potato.
And North Dakota with the hard-hitting.
Dots pretzels.
Fruit salad.
Fruit salad.
Fruit salad.
Come on.
I would agree.
Oh, good.
You got to be over 60 to enjoy fruit salad.
Hold on.
Do you like collard greens?
I don't.
My mom cooks them.
I like collards better and I like mustard.
That's Georgia and South Carolinas.
College.
Love them.
Hey, listen to this.
North Carolina's eating biscuits at Thanksgiving.
They're a great cola massages.
Who would ever eat fruit cake?
Anybody like fruit cake?
Yeah.
That log?
Yeah.
No.
Johnny D.
What about you?
You don't like fruit cake?
I don't know anybody that would eat it.
Until now.
Apparently.
I would.
What in my papal used to eat?
One of them yule logs.
Yule log.
What?
Hey.
Say, you know what that is?
Hey, yeah.
I mean, a fruit salad, I mean, a, you know, fruit cake?
Big pound cake, yeah.
Fruit cake?
A pound cake ain't a fruit cake.
Well, hey, fruit cake has got all these delicious fruits in it.
I'm going to get you one for Christmas.
Oh, hey.
Gag.
My, uh.
They just like a, heck of cranberry sauce.
How do they get it to be in that bowl?
Hey, look, one of my nieces makes them all the time and send them to us.
Oh, no.
What's that?
There's the map.
Oh, white gravy?
I'm interested.
Good on you, Arkansas.
I got a lot of bones to pick with New Mexico.
That's Arkansas.
White gravy?
Stuff salad.
Stuff mushrooms.
Arkansas is got to be different.
White gravy.
I like white gravy.
Cream corn.
That's an interesting one for Texas and Kansas.
Idaho and New Mexico.
New Mexico.
What's New Mexico?
Side salad.
Like go just.
Side salad.
The problem is with New Mexico, there's nine people that live.
No.
You know, so I mean, the sample size is too small.
I went to New Mexico one time in my life.
Albuquerque?
Farmington.
Farmington, New Mexico.
And these people at the church that we were there.
Are there farmers?
No.
They were.
My wife was born in Albuquerque.
Nice people.
And they said, we're going to go eat this food.
I said, oh, and we got there, I said, oh, Mexican food, sweet.
No, no, no, no.
New Mexican food.
New Mexican food.
New.
Which is different.
Not old Mexican food.
And it was, it was way better.
than a side salad.
I find it strange, all the baked potatoes.
What a bunch of weirdos.
I know what baked potatoes.
All right, ladies and gentlemen.
Hey, look, send us an email.
We got time.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving side?
Let's take a poll of our listeners.
Your favorite Thanksgiving side.
If you say English peas, you're wrong.
All right, we've already got to...
We know for a fact that Martin don't like English Pays.
He hates it.
They just don't bring nothing to the party.
They bring nothing to the party.
They keep belonging to the devil.
All right.
Well, here's the deal.
That's not my lying for him.
That's actually a guy used to work for Getty.
He's lying for him.
I'm trying to get us to a break because I'm so confused.
Hey, ladies and gentlemen, here's what you need to know.
Louisiana is the greatest state on earth.
And we eat better than you.
For food, especially.
Every meal.
That's right.
That's worth the bell rings, aye.
We'll be back.
Proud to be from Louisiana.
Society, you finally had a weekend off.
What'd you do with it?
Nothing.
I rested.
He rested.
That's important.
The only thing I've done since I've come back is I've actually set in a deer stand.
Oh, that's good.
Which was a good thing, okay, because the deer ain't cooperating.
I'm bucking.
Okay, and only three deer come out.
A doe and two year.
And they was jumping the whole time they was out there.
They're happy.
Well, no.
No, they're scared.
What are they scared of?
Then I looked, and Chad said, he tapped me, said, look there.
And there's a big old coon come out of the right of the woods, you know, come out there.
He went over there and started eating corn with a deer.
Then there was one in the tree right behind the big thing that holds all the corn.
A deer?
Coon fast.
No, a coon.
Oh.
So another coon come down and look, they lined up perfectly.
Uh-oh.
Okay.
That's not a good spot for a coon.
No, no.
Yeah, because I was telling them, I had told them they had lined up.
like that about three times and I said I could kill both of them one shot and you
so hey it's getting right at prime time when the buck may come out but I done sit there for four
hours and I said hey hey hey me at six point five we don't want to wait another 20 minutes yeah
heaven forbid I said I'm at six point five creed more because I think to try to kill both his
coon one shot thank you so look I put it stick it to the little window you know I put my eye on
the scope and looking and I'm hey I'm shaking like a coon
trying to pass.
Why are you shaking, sigh?
Got excited, I guess.
But anyway, I just told Chad, I said, Chad,
raccoon fever, baby.
I said, hey, take this rifle and shoot both of him coons.
I said, because, hey, right now, I couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a base fiddle.
So go ahead and shoot him.
That's one of my mind.
So Chad takes the robin and he.
Pia!
Yeah, one of them just rolls over at the foot of the big oak tree.
The other one disappears.
Okay.
I thought he was hit.
Hey, we should.
see him he gets on the other side of the tree where we can see him and he comes down and he comes down
right to the edge of the ground and smells that other cone checked him out yeah he's dead so then he goes
back up the tree and then next time i know he's over on the ground eating again and i said chat you don't
kill one that's a great kid another one he's a pach oh yeah so right so it was deer hunting and it
turned into a coon kill him there you go but anything anything you shoot when you're out and got
creation is wonderful.
Okay, and look, we got more
coons, okay, we got more
coons out there on Phil's property.
You know, when you see 10 or 12
coons, you know, out there
under the, for the coins being thrown
for the deer, you know, and these
coons are fat, okay, so no,
I ain't letting them eat the corn. Hey,
that's just make you another hat, son.
No, no, oh, not on that.
You know, Stone shot
a nine point. Nine of them.
The other day, no, nine point.
deer you know him and chad was in what we call a corridor corridor there's a corridor so hey stone
had popped that big nine point you know about 10 minutes later they looked over there and here's what
stone when stone told me he said hey we we just killed a big timber wolf you know and i said oh you've got
to be kidding me he said well it's a big coyote but he is a bull so they shot a big old coyote and
i mean that sucker was a house i'm talking about pretty thing a bull in the butt with the
base fiddle. You know what I'm thinking?
Yeah. He's a Coon killer
and a real thriller. I ain't going
walking around Fieldsland without some
urnage on because they kill everything around there.
Yeah, you better have some orange on if you come over
there. They kill it everything up there.
Hey, look. Well, Sire, look, you've talked about everything
but what's important. What's Saturday?
Saturday? Oh, hey.
Is it not the day we've been waiting
on? Oh, no, yeah, but look, hey, I got
to tell you one more thing. Stone said, hey,
I come out of there to deer hunt
The other day, me and him sitting my stand.
Oh, sad.
And I had on my coon-skinned hat.
Oh, you wore it.
Oh, yeah.
And Stone said, wait a minute.
He went in the cooler, opened the door, grabbed the big coyote that he had hanging in the cooler,
bought him out.
I'm standing behind him, and I said, boys, hey, look, it's one week till duck season opens.
And I said, hey, look what we've been doing.
We've been killing big deer.
Big deer.
Mature ones.
I hadn't killed one yet, but hey, they've been killing them down there.
Mature.
Yeah, five-year-old.
Five-year-old or a holder.
Anyway, you know, and I said, hey, but we are, here's what we've been doing.
I said, I've got a Coonskin hat.
Now I'm fixing to make me a coyote cap with that big tail.
He's got a tail about that long.
You're making a coyote hat now?
Oh, what are you talking about, son?
Hey, yeah.
Is it hard to make one of them?
Oh, yeah, it'd be hard to make.
I made one out of a coon one time.
Biggest coon ever caught, trap.
How much?
I didn't do very good with my sewing, though.
So, hey, I ordered, you ordered four.
Yeah, because we gave to the pipeline.
You can leave like a coyote's face on my hat.
Well, that's what a lot of them do.
Yeah.
That makes it work.
Right at the front.
Somewhere, Willey, in a coyote jacket.
Right where the cap comes down is the nose.
The seminoles had that side.
See it?
See it?
Good look at looks.
We get on this a lot.
That is a fan.
By the way, everybody, we got a new TV, so that's neat.
Oh, they put up the new one?
You didn't notice?
We lost the other one, Ty.
Oh, we lost the other one.
Too many times hitting the bell, boys.
The bell finally got.
So that's what you're going to make?
That's it, right here?
You're going to make that.
No, no, he ain't going to make it.
He'll have it made.
No, we gave it to the buzzards.
He knows the guy.
He gave him.
No, hey, look, I'm like Clintishwood.
The buzzards.
and the worms.
So Saturday.
Let's stay on task here, Saturday.
Saturday.
What's that?
Saturday.
Saturday.
You know, the only thing I got to ask, hey, Canadians,
did y'all send the ducks down?
No.
Because that's the only thing I've got asked.
I'm guessing.
Have you seen any?
You've been down there.
Well, I don't know.
Phil.
A stone told him the other day.
What?
He hunted yesterday morning two days ago.
He's seen two big bucks.
They wouldn't, you know, one of them wouldn't turn broadside,
so he couldn't shoot them.
But he did see a bunch of ducks.
So we got a few ducks down there,
and we'll probably kill full limits.
Yeah, Saturday morning.
You think you're going to kill full limits.
Full limits.
Full limits on.
On Saturday morning.
Yes, sir.
Hold on.
What do you think, Martin?
Yeah.
Six times six, 36 ducks.
36 at least.
It may be seven-a-old.
He'd kill a full limit if he'd come with me.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
Johnny D., where are we going on Saturday?
I've gone to work at the Honey-Hole tackle shop.
Martin, where are you out?
He said, I ain't said it.
But if you want to go, we'll kill for a limit.
Wait, where are you going?
He ain't going to tell you, J.D.
I know where you're going.
Hey, shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
I standing there the other day messing around, looked up, and there's 12 miles just.
How many people are you hiding with?
I said.
Ooh.
No, they wasn't backpedaling.
They was making that sound, that wind coming off their wings.
Tell me, hey, do that Saturday.
I didn't see what happened.
About nine drakes and three hens.
Who's counting?
You are.
I looked at them drakes.
I said, buddy, you in a vibe.
You're in a bind, Jack.
You're about to be in a show enough buying.
How many people are you hunting with?
I don't know, probably four or five.
All right.
So I'm going to take Martin for the win, even though he's limited by humans.
Five times six, a study.
30.
They'll get.
How many y'all got going on with you?
They'll have a hundred.
You got to remember, though.
We'll be done by eight.
Me, Stone, and I don't know who else is coming.
Regardless.
Me, Stone and Phil, us three.
What about Jayce?
Stone said Jayce ain't a lot of a lot of the shit.
Wait him out.
He'd go.
Well, no, no, no.
That's what Tom told me.
He said he's not going.
He's not going a lot of times.
I thought Stone is morning.
Al's going, gobbling going.
Okay, so that's five.
You got a full crew.
Wait.
So, Jayce is just skipping opening a day?
No, I think that's going to be there opening day,
but I think Monday he starts that new show or whatever he's doing.
Are we allowed to say that?
Metal detecting or something.
I think they've talked about.
Well, hey, I'd be working with two.
Yeah.
You honestly will be sending them out, West.
Bosley.
I was right.
Hey, y'all have seen Charlie's Angels?
No.
I'm Bosney.
There's a lot of things J.C. is, but it ain't an angel.
And you ain't Charlie.
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
Hey.
What?
Yeah, running in a metal detector.
Metal detectors.
They beat.
They got to come back and look better what they did when we first started.
But duck season, what time you're going to wake up Saturday morning?
Oh, I probably had to get up like four.
4.30. To be down there by 5.
Opening day is like Christmas.
Yeah. I won't sleep, but maybe an hour or two,
because the whole time I'll be panicked that I'm going to over sleep.
Oh, I won't be panicked.
I'll just be for the years that I've hunted,
I'll be laying there and I'll shoot them.
Land the decoys.
Yeah, that first day is.
That first day is just, I mean, it is just.
Kill them five woodies. They lit.
Just like Christmas.
Oh, yeah.
And you know, you got to start every year off with a ground swat.
That's it.
Let them light.
The first duck will be shot on the water.
Let them light.
After that, we'll give him a sporting tank.
Is that to make sure your season starts off well?
No, it's just a tradition.
You ground swat the first one.
And look, all it is, he let him light.
And if he light and they're swimming, don't shoot him.
Let him stop.
Stop swimming.
Then poppy.
Then you ground swat that Woody, and you say,
boys, we're going to be heating fine for things.
Oh, no.
Hey, Donald's going to turn that into a, you know,
Well, Phil called me yesterday and put in his order for eight green wing teal for duck and dressing.
Oh, yeah.
Hold on.
Why is he having to order him?
Because he ain't got no teal down there.
They ain't no teal down there.
They're in a green wing gar.
That's right.
I'm not in a green wing gar.
He's with a green wing gar.
Yeah.
That's beautiful.
That's my favorite dog.
That's my favorite duck to shoot.
The green winger?
It's green winger.
Well, buddy.
Come with me about Monday then.
Now I will.
Come with me about Monday then.
Yeah.
Now I will shoot blue wings.
Okay, because they're fun to shoot too.
But the reason I like to shoot Greenwinger
is because they're the best table fair out of all of them.
So here we are, folks.
It's opening day.
That's it, boys.
Coming up Saturday.
We're fired up.
Let's, well, we may tell some old duck hunting stories when we come back.
Let's take our first break.
We'll be back.
We need to do a podcast from the duck pod.
No.
Why not?
It sounds better.
It sounds better than it wouldn't really be.
It had black spray paint and everything else.
I think we could.
I'm not.
say and bring the computer and
the things. Well, we'll go
to your duck hole and do that. No?
Hey, we can do that at your store parking lot.
We can do it in size, duck hole, because there's no ducks there
either. You ain't doing it down there. Yeah, we wouldn't run
nothing off down there. Yeah. Y'all was just boring.
Look at it. Hush your mouth, boy.
Apparently, we can do it while size deer hunting. He ain't see nothing anyway.
Well, no option. I'm serious. I'm thinking it's somewhere else.
Cy opening day.
Brought the bell with him.
favorite duck hunting story you can remember you got one that stick not where you smoked yourself dry
not where you let's come up with something that we ain't heard yet give us give us one we don't know
nothing about well the best one i ever hunted and i don't even remember well i know we're bound to kill them
but the best one i want we're in moss lake blind okay which is 14 foot off of the water in a cypress tree
perfect perfect distance okay the the reason it's so good hunting out of a tree
Okay, is that you're shooting down on them.
And if you miss, you can make the correct them
because you see where the shot hits.
You miss?
You shot behind him.
Oh, everybody misses, son.
But anyway, I cut him a little bit.
The best one was, and I may have told this before,
we're in the duck blind, you know, the flank glow.
You can see just the top of the sun, okay?
It's right at daylight.
You can see the top of the sun over there behind the woods
from the east.
and then you see ripples coming out of the buckbrush right where we mowed her out in a boat
but it ain't a duck and then you see nine objects in a row
otters okay river otter beautiful okay look they come out just like
just like cowboys on horses they come out of the buckbrush to hang a right
they go down to the shallow end of the lake
and you can see them
they're starting to circle
okay and look
circles big at first
covering the entire water
around where the bunk brush is
but then you see them it starts getting
tighter tighter tighter
what are they doing
how I fixate
well when it gets so tight
that a fish finally comes out of the
middle comes out of the water
then they all
hit them.
Okay, they catch one,
Buffalo.
They go to the bank
and then you ain't heard
to growling and barking
and you're raw,
ah, how,
they eat him
and then they come back out
and do it again.
They're fishing.
They're hurting,
they're hurting a school of buffalo
till they just are just
piled up on top of each other,
then all nine of them hit them
and one of them will catch one.
And then they'll go to the bank
and they'll eat him.
But that's the best duck hunt
because, hey, that was beautiful to watch right at day.
Otters fishing.
Otters fishing.
That is a good one.
I mean, I'm trying to think.
I got so many of them from over the years.
Last year was a cool one, though.
It was the second day of season.
We had a little nest of mallards we've been saving.
Yep.
They've been saving it for a whole day.
Hey, you know.
It was the second day of the season.
That's like hunting in Texas on them stockponds.
You know, you got to wait for the sunshine.
It was cloudy on opening day last year.
They saved it for old day number two.
Finally got there.
And we slid in there.
Slip in a lot of the morning.
Bye,
go out there,
he's banded.
I was like,
Ooh.
Big banded mallowed Drake.
And then the last duck,
man,
and groundswotted him.
Yep.
Then the last duck of the morning,
the sucker had white wings on him.
Oh, white winged mallowed drek.
And the old boy that was with me,
shot out of position.
and shot him from out in front of me.
Wasn't me.
I told him, I said,
I'm fine with you doing that,
but just know that you got the taxidermy bill going with that duck
because you're getting him mounted.
Because I would have.
Yeah, because you go mount him.
You're going to pay for,
you're going to pay to get him on the wall
because I ain't ever seen one with white wings.
And like the last four feathers on each wing were solid snow white.
He was a,
so there is hope, you know, going forward for this year.
But man, we are dry?
Good Lord, are we dry?
I got the first fuel bill.
I'll fix like, oh, yeah.
Is it that bad?
No, no, no, no.
That's a bad time.
I'll give you an example.
Field spends about on dry years,
10 to 15 grand.
The first one, the first one was 12.
On diesel?
On diesel.
On diesel.
And then at our other spot, we're already up to nine.
Yeah.
So we're at 21,000 right now.
$21,000?
$1,000.
Just to pump water so you can duct?
This is expensive
of sports, son.
Thank you, Brandon.
Yeah.
Thank you, Brandon.
A three-piece spicy from Popeyes.
I mean, is it?
You can get all thighs there, too.
You even got to worry about the wings.
No, it's expensive this year.
Duck cutting is expensive this year.
But you know the beauty of drought years?
Oh, I can tell you the beauty.
They're called water foul.
Yeah.
If you got water.
You got foul.
You win.
I got it.
That's why they spent it all that money.
Our best year was 99 when it was dry.
Mm-hmm.
Bone dry.
1999?
Yeah.
Back to 1900.
We killed 1500.
It was a party.
Prince was there.
Yeah.
No, it was, yeah.
It ought to be all right.
I ain't seen a lot of ducks, so not just a ton.
Well, everybody's, there's a lot of geese.
There was one cold day so far.
Calvin, Chad's dad.
Mm-hmm.
He's got a hunting club up at Arkansas.
Yeah.
And the other day, apparently, he's seen like 3,000 into a hole.
Yeah.
Ooh.
Yeah.
And they said, we're going to stay here.
I mean, there's a few around.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It just ain't like you to expect.
Mark knows that are.
It ain't but five of us going to hunt the morning.
I mean, in Saturday morning.
Yeah.
That ain't but 30.
Yeah, but you boys ain't going to shoot Woody's.
So.
Oh, no.
Hey, Jake ain't said.
Well, you mean I ain't shooting woodies.
We still got three this year?
I think so, yeah.
Well, hey, I don't know what to roll this.
I'll shoot three woodies.
Is that three?
The case doesn't lost his mind.
Yeah.
If you got ten people in the blind and shoot three wood drugs a piece, that's 30 ducks, boys.
And they're fantastic eating.
Yeah.
I don't get his deal with him.
He just don't like woodies?
No, he don't like them.
He's a purest.
He's a mallard snob.
Purist.
Purist or not a snob.
But he'll lose his snuff over a daggum shovelers.
shovelers let's kill them
I'm like
oh no I love
A shoveler dies
prettier than any other job
How does one die
Pretty?
So show me what it looks like
He's dramatic
He's elaborate
Hey well the reason
Is because if you get
25 in at 15 yards
They do die pretty
Especially when you're shooting
An open board 20 gauge
And he's dramatic
That shoveler
I swear you could turn around
Shoot the other direction
From a shoveler
If there's a pack of 20 of them
and one of them going to fall.
I don't know what they're doing.
I don't know if I have a massive heart attack.
It's like the NBA when they start shooting into them.
But they flopping, they do it.
Oh, no, they do back flips and everything else when you watch.
They do.
They die pretty than any other.
And look, by the time they got here and been sitting in these rice fields for a month,
they're fine eating.
I don't know why everybody's got such a bad deal.
Well, Johnny Winks calls them flying ribby.
Now, there ain't no ribby.
Right.
You know, they ain't no ribby.
They can.
He calls a shoveler of that?
They kind of like a chuck eye.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Not a rib eye.
No, that rib eye is reserved for that specklebelly.
Now, he's good.
He's a ribeye.
Now, he's fine.
Yeah.
He fine.
The rest of them you can't eat.
Mm-mm.
He's fire.
Okay.
But, yeah.
The rest of the geese?
Yeah, them geese is pretty tough.
Yeah, they ain't no good.
Them snows, they run.
They found the shoot because they make a big racket when they get the water.
Well, when you're killing snow geese, you're actually saving the tundress.
Yeah.
You know.
Save the tundra.
You're doing.
Save the tundra and kill ever snowed-eat-eat-eat.
Hey, I went goose hunting with Mountain Man.
Oh.
Uh-oh.
Mountain Man stumped.
He tripped over.
By the time you get there telling this story, we may need to take another break.
No, size right.
He dripped over the flipper.
Yeah.
No, the speaker.
So we couldn't turn it on.
And I said, what happened?
He was like, I got a dog going fight with a snake this morning.
And I said, there wasn't no snake.
That was the wire to the speaker.
That's right.
You told the wire to the speaker.
Well, we might as well shut her down.
So you actually went hunting with Mountain.
That's where your hunting career is now.
You drumming up Hunts with Mountain Man.
He's going hunting.
You got weeded out with us and you're going hunting with.
Johnny, you want to go with us?
I'm good.
I got work that.
Y'all end up down there to Russell Sage at the boat ramp.
That's where we put it.
See?
Hey.
I don't even.
You don't know what just happened.
Public land duck hunting with a mountain dog.
Boy, don't that sound like a good time.
I mean, it kind of does sound fun.
I can think of no less than 7,000 things I'd rather do.
Oh, I'm not waking up early to do it.
No.
Hey, now look, he loves to eat ducks too.
And Jace gave him some ducks in the church parking lot,
and he was walking across and me and Siles.
Guaranteed they were blue wings.
No.
Me and Siles in the truck, and my wife was with us.
Hey, he said, look here.
I got feet.
These ducks, Jace, give me.
And I was like, yeah, that's a nice mountain man.
I try to drive off.
He said, hey, we're going to get these ducks and cook them up, murder.
I just rode the wind up and drove off.
It was going to be a very long story.
And Alicia, dope-popped him, said, you're so rude.
And he's a baby.
Look, he's going to tell that duck hunting story, and I ain't got four hours time.
And he wasn't even there.
We got to eat.
We're going to a deal.
Well, let's take another break.
We'll be back right after this.
It's going fast, boys.
Hi, we're back.
Welcome back.
We're in that mailbag.
Hello at duck callroom.com.
Hello.
Hello.
Uh-oh.
Johnny did, do we have a first?
Yeah, I accidentally just clicked off of it.
All right.
Michael, he doesn't say, say where you're from, people.
He sent in a picture of his son's first deer.
His son's first.
An old four point.
Look how fired up that kid.
Yeah.
Hey, that's a big old buck, though.
That's fantastic.
All right.
But my favorite picture is from five minutes before this duck, this duck, this duck, this, this buck was shot right there.
Wake him up, boy.
Before or after?
That's before.
Wake up, son.
My man was passed out of sleep.
His dad said, hey.
Congratulations, little fella.
Keep sending those first pictures in.
We love it.
Good job.
That was Lucas.
Lucas.
Good Bob.
Congrats, buddy.
On that big old buck.
And then
Oh, boy.
Anybody else?
Anybody else?
Well, you've got some advice and stuff.
Do it.
Well, we got some advice.
It would be somebody else that shot a deer.
Ah, here's one more.
Here's one more.
One more of these.
Just because I want everybody, I want everybody to see them.
This is Jeff from Philmore, Wisconsin.
What was Wisconsin's favorite Thanksgiving?
Wisconsin.
Big potato.
Big potato.
I think they were on that baked potato bag.
Big potato.
All right.
She used a 4-10, Martin.
Out of course.
All right, that's a deer gun, boys.
No, not a deer.
Look at that turkey.
Whoa.
Look, and he doesn't beat the snod out of her decoys.
Did he?
I got a...
Back out of there.
Look, that decoy flipped on you?
Yeah.
You deserved it, son.
You got what you deserve.
You got what you deserve.
You got what you deserve.
She is, I think it said, eight years old.
That's awesome.
Hold on.
This new TV's throwing me all off.
I gotta come up with a better system now
She is eight
And that was her first turkey from her own 410
Beautiful Clark
Great shot
Beautiful beautiful
Beautiful beautiful
All right
Next I have something
I'm just gonna do it
And I don't know that I should
He's going to do it
Because Trey emailed us in
He's from Perry Georgia
Do it
Trey wants us to announce that his wife is pregnant
does she know everybody
tray and
he doesn't say
tray and his wife are having a kid
all right
from Perry Georgia
I don't
okay do we know
us to make the announcement
do we know what it's going to be
a boy or a girl
I'm sure if he's not even including
his wife's name on this
that it's very fresh
yeah I'm assuming this
he hadn't told anybody
I wonder if you're related to
Trey from Perry Georgia
heads up everybody
Trey and his woman
or having a baby.
And you know what that means?
He's right.
Hey, his life's going to change drastically.
He is asking for advice about that.
I'm worried that he didn't run this past his wife, though.
Hey, too late now.
Hey, too late now.
When you send it in, when you click go, it's on.
It's up to me at that point, everybody.
Don't ever send it in an email.
Well, may your child.
May your child be born healthy in about nine months.
And he said, and I was wondering if y'all could announce it for us.
We did, buddy.
He said, I was one.
So here's my first bit of advice.
You might want to run things like this past the old mom.
What I think he was looking for was a response from us to say, yeah, we'd love to.
Not, hey, Trey's having a baby.
Right.
I don't think about it.
It's too late now.
But look, Trey is having a baby.
That's right.
You can't trust this bunch.
So for Christmas.
We cannot keep a secret.
No.
Okay, so don't even send it to us if you don't want the whole world.
Congratulations, okay.
So let me tell you this, Johnny Deke.
Tell me.
When my wife, I've got three healthy, grown children, they're all in college and grown up.
But when my wife told me that she was pregnant with our first child, Bryson.
You passed out.
No.
But I was headed to the golf course to meet McIntosh and Jason, some of them to play around the golf.
Boy, that's a crew.
And look, I forgot where I was going, drove around.
for an hour and couldn't find Calvert.
You lost, you got, because you're about to be a dad?
Yeah, yeah, I just freaked out.
I just, I don't know what a turn.
I just kept driving.
I loved it.
True story.
Hey, that was bad as me the other day I forgot my pen number for my stupid card.
What is it?
I ain't going to tell you.
I know what it is.
I know what it is too, but, hey.
You just forgot?
Yeah.
It's gone, boy.
You lost your, I couldn't remember.
Remember my PIN number for my card.
And it's just four ones.
One, one, one, one, one, one, one.
He got them in the wrong order.
I got them in the wrong order, boy.
Sae is one, dear, it's a pin number.
I ain't telling y'all, I ain't telling y'all nothing.
It's one, two, three, four.
Very simple.
You got to keep everything simple, boy.
It's redneck.
It's very important.
Very important.
Keep it simple.
You got advice?
I got some heavy advice.
Well, hit us what?
Well, hit some heavy advice.
What is it?
What is it?
It's a warning and then let's go home.
Pregnancy announcement.
Where did it go?
Oh, father, son advice.
Love it.
Father son advice.
Hey, guys.
I can give you perspective from the son.
I need some help.
This probably doesn't need to make it on the podcast unless you guys want it on there.
Well, let's roll.
We're going to do this and if we don't like it, we'll edit it out and start over.
Cy's in a mood anyway.
So him and his dad had taken, they've been hunting their whole life.
His dad kind of slowed down.
his brother's kind of slowed down.
This man right here is working the land,
getting it all ready to go hunting, right?
Love it.
So like Stone.
Me too.
It's kind of his spot at this point, right?
Yep.
He's the only one working it.
He gets a buddy involved.
Okay.
Buddy's helping out.
Yep, sweat equity.
Yep.
And then opening weekend happens.
Here comes everybody.
His wife shot a dough.
No, and buddy.
Excuse me.
Oh, buddy shot the nice buck.
Oh, eight point.
Well, hey.
And now Dad's mad.
About what?
We don't know.
That buddy shot the deer?
Hey, Dad gets all upset.
I will finish the story real quick.
And he's like, well, hold on.
He's been working.
Yeah.
But now they're not talking.
All we know is Dad's upset.
Son's confused.
And now son's mad that Dad's his dad.
And now everybody's mad and nobody's talking.
All right.
Here's the deal.
I got it.
Here's where we're at.
First and foremost, who cares who shot to deer is my opinion.
And we don't know that that's wise, mad?
No, that's wise.
It seems it.
However, however, the same time, if you're the buddy, I'm the buddy in a lot of places that are really, really, really good.
Martin's the buddy.
I'm the buddy.
Let me tell you how to continue to be the buddy.
I'm the buddy's buddy.
That gets to hunt at these places.
You don't shoot a deer if you're the buddy.
Right.
You show the restraint and the respect for the landowner,
even though you worked your butt off and did everything you could,
until they have killed said buck that they're after or said deer that they're after,
you are on dough and or coal patrol.
Okay.
And you smile because you are hunting a place rent free that all you had to do
is volunteer your time and effort into.
Let me tell you what I think about dad's responsibility is going to be.
it's going to be to communicate before this happens what his expectations are
because what is known is manageable.
If it's not known, then there's chaos and dad's mad because somebody shot a deal.
Absolutely.
The man that wrote in, he says he knows he needs to forgive his dad.
Absolutely.
And I know I should talk to him, but, and then he put this in capsogs, I do not want to.
Well, he's not ready to because he's still going to get mad.
if you try to get to a place of calm.
Give it a little time.
Which calm's not going to come till you forgive him.
But sometimes and oftentimes we have to do things that we just don't want to do.
Like, hey, hold on, why are you mad?
Because this doesn't make sense to me.
And then you're going to have to make it make sense because he's your dad.
And it's how you take feedback, you know.
I mean, Justin over the years has probably said, here's some feedback for you, Philip,
that I didn't want to hear, but I took some time.
And then I listened to it.
And vice versa.
Yeah, 100%.
So you got to be able to give that feedback and receive it and forgive each other.
You know what?
I mean, it's just a deer.
So, hey, talk this.
And, okay, so I'm sorry you got mad that I shot him.
And I'm sorry I shot him.
Yeah.
Let's figure it out.
Hat and hand.
What are your expectations?
Let's figure it out so we can go forward with our friendship and with our relationship.
We never expected it to get to this.
It's everybody's bad here.
Our bad.
Let's fix it.
Yeah.
Let's make sure this doesn't.
happen again. See, if I would
have, if I would, the Robertsons are terrible
communicators. But if they
would have told me that, that's why they
hired people to do it. If they would have told
me, Philip, you don't want to shoot the
ducks when they fly by, wait until Phil says cut them,
I never would have got up off the seat.
But since I did,
they banned me for life. So at least
it ain't that bad.
We don't know.
We are. He might be banned.
If he is, he can join my club.
We are still free. Phil is banned.
He can join Philip and Mountain Man on some public land down here in Louisiana.
Johnny, they sent us out of here with the Bible.
All right, hey, real quick, my friend Kevin, who's emailed in a couple of times,
his baby was having an ultrasound to see if they'd need surgery.
So prayers up for that.
The baby's in the NICU, and the NICU holds a special place in my heart.
Plus, we had a baby announcement today.
Yeah.
And we don't know if his wife knows that, but we do know this,
that Psalms 1.273 says,
children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring, a reward from him.
Amen.
All right, we'll see y'all next time
right here in a duck call room.
We're out.
We go.
