Starting point is 00:00:00 Over the last couple years, didn't we learn that the folding chair was invented by black people because of what happened in Alabama? This Black History Month, the podcast Selective Ignorance with Mandy B, unpacked black history and culture with comedy, clarity, and conversations that shake the status quo. The Crown Act in New York was signed in July of 2019, and that is a bill that was passed to prohibit discrimination based on hair styles associated with race. Starting point is 00:02:13 It's all over the internet, greatest guy. I'm like, oh, obviously, yeah, obviously, who isn't a fan of Tom? And then you get Julian Adelman's jersey. It's all over the internet. Oh, big fan of Julian Edelman. And I'm sitting there like, yo, it's going to be so cool when A.J. Brown calls me up and ask for my jersey. What the fuck am I? Am I chop liver?
Starting point is 00:02:30 Yeah. Welcome to dudes on dudes. I'm Julian Edelman. And I'm Rob Grankowski. And we're coming to you live from the Nut House in San Francisco, brought to you by Liquid Ivy. And this is the show where your favorite dudes, talk about their favorite dudes.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Today we are joined by Super Bowl champion A.J. Brown. So make sure to drop a like, subscribe, and hit the bell to be notified every time we drop a new episode. Let's go. Dudes on Dudes is a production of IHeart Radio. Today we are joined by a very special guest, a Super Bowl champion from Starkville, Mississippi,
Starting point is 00:03:15 Ole Miss Great, a fellow number 11. Oh, who else wears number 11? Oh, you, Joel. Not right now. Not with this guy in the building. He wears number 11. I mean, when I think of number 11, I think of A.J. Brown.
Starting point is 00:03:27 That's who I think about, too. And that's what we got here on, dudes on dudes. Welcome to the show. Thanks for coming. How are we doing? Are we doing good, man? I'm glad to be here. Finally, I'm glad we made it happen.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Heck yeah. I'm exciting, man. What have you been up to this week so far here in San Francisco at the Super Bowl? I'm so exhausted. I just got some energy for you guys. Yo, same. I just like that juice. I was like, yo, take this over, man.
Starting point is 00:03:50 My brain is shut off. That's why I have a tequila drink right here. I was like, I got to rewire my brain. I got to reopen it up, man. The Super Bowl is definitely draining. It can take a lot out of you. Have you been at radio? Row? Yes. That's why.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Radio Roe sucks everything out of you. Oh, man, that was a little aggressive right there. Now, what's the biggest takeaway of this season for you guys? Straight in. Or it could be the NFL, could be
Starting point is 00:04:22 anything. What's the biggest takeaway coming into this game? Coming into this game, just staying focused. It's so many distractions like Grunx just said. You guys know, you guys being more than, being more than I have, but it's so many distractions. And as a player, that you have to realize that it's still about executing at the end of the day. And you got your family, you have commercials, you have the media that's coming at you
Starting point is 00:04:46 and all those things. But still the game of football at the end of the day, no matter if it's how complex it is this week, it's still football. And you still have to practice and all those things and take care of your body. It's a lot. Did you like going, you know, when you guys playing your Super Bowls? Did you like going away and having your routine in a new area? Because I used to enjoy going, like we played in Atlanta. We played in Houston.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And then you go to the universities and you get to have your work routine there. You go up there, flex in front of a couple of the college kids doing that work. You know, is that fun for you? Julian likes a spotlight. No, I'm... This is fun. I had two sips. I'm already on fire.
Starting point is 00:05:26 I'm a white weight. What would we do? I'll take it. What would be doing? But, I mean, it's cool just to go just to see, like, different environments and you may run across somebody that you don't know and just probably try to give them some words of encouragement. But I like to be at home. I like a structure system. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Routine. Yeah. Routine. Now, you grew up a big Patriots fan, huh? Uh-huh. Now, why did you like the Patriots so much? So when I was. Yeah, from Mississippi.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Well, sure. For sure. For sure. So when I was younger, my older cousin. I wanted to do everything like him, man. He was a big Patriots fan. It was that simple. There's nothing complex about it.
Starting point is 00:06:06 And so he was a Patriots fan. I was a Patriot fan. And he just went from there. Yeah. Dude, you're like so calm and polite. I thought I was, you know, like,
Starting point is 00:06:14 like, say motherfucker every second. Yeah. But like, I try not a whole. Yeah. I mean, this is nice, man. This is coming.
Starting point is 00:06:22 I like this, man. It's just only because that's how you look when you play. You look like it. You look like these motherfuckers. Yeah. It's like for real.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Like, that's what I was expecting. Every time I look at you, I'm like, you know, I don't want to line up against that guy if I'm DB. Like, this guy's going to just take your head and just smush it into the ground. Yeah, I'm definitely a different person out there in the football. Okay. Yeah. So that makes sense. That's good, though.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Yeah. That's good. Especially. Myself too. But you should have seen this guy, a total different person. A maniac. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:51 It's like his head got cut. Oh, I know. I know. Oh, he knows. He knows. He knows. I love it. I know.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Yeah. Now, talk to us about Coach Brab. Are you excited for Coach Vraib? He's getting an opportunity to win a Super Bowl? I'm so excited for him, man. He's a great coach, man. He deserves his opportunity. I'm excited for him.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Now, paint the picture for us. What's a team meeting like with Vrable? We never played for him, but we can only imagine what it is. What is it? It wouldn't be as comfortable as we are right now. Let's start there. But I always remember this critical moment with Vraib. I'm going to tell you, I'm going to give some insight, too.
Starting point is 00:07:27 I'm going to get two stories really quick. So, Brave is the type of coach. He wants to, he's going to call on you in the means. He's want to make sure that you're staying engaged, and he's going to go over the keys to the victory of the week. And he's going to, and you better know him, like, to the back on your hand, right? And so I used to write in my notebook because at the time, I didn't really like Brave. I didn't really like him.
Starting point is 00:07:50 I admit that he knows that. And so I used to write, I hate Brab, I hate Ray, I hate Ray, I hate Ray. Right. But I was doing that to pretend like I was right. I was taking notes to look like I was engaged. But because he was so hard on me when I was a rookie and I didn't really understand it. And so it was at the time I told Ray, I was like, hey, like I'm humble already. You all got to humble me.
Starting point is 00:08:13 But I really didn't understand what he was trying to, you know, push me to be, you know. And another little quick thing, he showed a clip. I ran like a band gate and I scored and he praised me. And so I was kind of feeling good about myself, right? I'm a rookie. And a couple of plays later, he showed me another play with the band gate and I get tackle. And he's like, what's the difference between the first play and the second play? And he was like, you're tired.
Starting point is 00:08:39 He was like, that's not going to cut it, you know? And he was like, that same mentality of what you show in the first play, you should do that all the time. That's who you, that's who you are. Like this right here, that's not going to cut it. And so, but when I say he holds every single player accountable from top to bottom, I don't care. who it is, like, that's who he is. And it makes the team come together because nobody, nobody's bigger than the team. Nobody's bigger than the program.
Starting point is 00:09:04 So you have to respect it. 1,000 percent. Now, who has better hands? You are Coach Braves? I mean, obviously. Well, I'm not sure. I mean, Coach Braves never dropped a pass, right? He got like five.
Starting point is 00:09:18 He got like five. Yeah, but he still never dropped the past. How many catches does, you know, like, it's like saying Julian's the greatest quarterback of all time. Like, what were you? Six for six for six or something. What's your QBR, even though we think QBR is the stupidest stat, 162? What is it?
Starting point is 00:09:33 Well, QBR isn't it like 168.2 to be the best? And you're only 162? You're six for six. How many touchdowns? I don't even know. So I think you're better than time. And I think you're Braves has better hands than you then because he never dropped the pass. Braves has 12 catches all touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:09:50 That's a fucking stat line right. Yeah, that really is. What, they were all on the goal line. Yeah. But that's just impressive. It's just very impressive, for real. Now, yeah. You got what I was going to ask.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Now, who are some of the guys that you love to watch a film on when you were a young football player? Julio. You guys have similar game. I still watch Julio to this day. Big bodies. Yeah. I used to watch AB. I used to watch O'Dell.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Like, we used to study, like, obviously, we used to watch. watch you. I just watch you as well. Sorry, Grunt. Oh, no, no. We got some beef. I'll talk about it a little bit. And that just kicked it off. But those guys, and you know, I truly believe
Starting point is 00:10:41 that the way Julio played the game, it's how you play the game at the receiver. What do you, what? Like what? Just big, fast. He's just demeanor, you know, pad level. You know, he's a bigger guy, but he can run Ross like a smaller guy. You know, he wants to impose his will. And that's what you have to do when you
Starting point is 00:10:56 You're a bigger guy. So you have to make, you have to make guys feel, even if you're not even running as fast, you've got to make them feel like you're running 100 miles prior. And so you just, and then you drop on a dime. And when you're growing up as a kid, who was your favorite wide receiver to watch that you admired? Oh, Julio.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Julio's the reason why I. As a kid, you guys are like the same age, right? No, no. We're older now, bro. Damn, no, no, no, no. We're out of league. Are you like, so what? You were in middle school and Julio Jones was in the NFL
Starting point is 00:11:26 Listen, damn, we are getting old shit. Listen, I promise you, who deals the reason why I played receiver? Like, I didn't even really want to play football. I played baseball. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Were you a prospect to the MLB? Absolutely. What position? Interfield. Banner, man. What were you hitting in the lineup? Third? You hitting dingers?
Starting point is 00:11:46 Yeah. Left and right? Yeah. I got drunk. You did? What round? Padre is 19. I know.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Out of high school? Out of high school. Dude. Yeah. No one knows that about you. Let's never talk about it. I knew that. You guys should actually see Julian hit a baseball.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Oh, my gosh. AJ Brown, he's a big guy. He's a big guy. Yeah. Can you, how far? What's your, uh, fire this home around? I don't remember. Julian, I'm not lying.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Julian had more power than the MLB players when we took batting practice two years. No, he's just, you had more power. He's glazing me right now. No, you get out of here. Okay. Why else? It translates. You hit a golf ball like 340 yards, right?
Starting point is 00:12:22 What's your fire at his drive? I don't know. In the 300s. I saw it when we were in the box. Thomas, it translates. Jules got hips. He got hips at the fire. Thanks, bro.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Yeah. That's why he was great at, you know, those little routes. He was not great. I'm blowing, not, I'm giving him too many props. So he wasn't great at the deep ball, but he was great at, I was great at the deep ball. Now, this is far. But I couldn't do the little routes because my hips were tight. His hips are so, his hips are so loose.
Starting point is 00:12:49 He can go, bam. Babam. I mean, I'm not saying you weren't great at the deep ball. I'm just saying, bro, you know, wasn't your special. You're special to me. You're getting out of control. Now, what's up with, how could, like, you were teammates with D.K. Med-Kath at Ole Miss.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Oh, freak. How fucking, like, what's up with the water in Mississippi or what? Like, how are you guys just, huh? It's the food. It's the food. Yeah, it's just how you were raised. What's your favorite food from home? If you go back home.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Like fried fish and spaghetti. What kind of fish? Catfish? Yeah. You got to go catfish. Cornbread. Do you just, is it a sweet cornbread? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Now, do you put honey on it? No, I don't do honey. So you put butter on it? Yeah. Or a honey butter. It basically is cake. It's cake. Yeah. It's got to be.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Are you just one of those athletes that just eat anything? No. You actually watch what you eat. No, I'm definitely watching what I eat. I don't eat that. Yeah. Really? Yeah, I mean, but when you were like young 20.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Because I could. Yeah, because I could easily walk up and that's not what I'm trying to do. Yeah. Yeah. Because you're monstrous already. Yeah. What's your weight? You're 20.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Man, you kind of bigger than some tight ends. Yeah. Yeah. I don't want to be, though. Why not? We get paid way more than wide receivers. Yeah, right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:05 All right. All right. Today, we are letting AJ pick this episode's dude. Let's set the clock for 10 minutes. We'll read the AI synopsis and then we'll put up the old headshot and we'll discuss them. Standing at 6'4 3 and 220 pounds out of fully Alabama, this wide receiver was star at the University of Alabama before being drafted six overall in the 2011 draft.
Starting point is 00:14:34 He would have a 13-year career, make seven Pro Bowls, while playing for the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Bucks, and the Philadelphia Eagles. Let's get on Julio Jones. Now, what's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Julio Jones?
Starting point is 00:14:51 Beast. Beast. Yeah. I mean, we already kind of dropped into it. Yeah. Now, you got to play with the first. How was that? It was really cool.
Starting point is 00:15:00 I learned probably more off the field stuff than on the field. Like what? Just everything, like marketing, marketing stuff and business and stuff like that. And he's into everything. I don't want to get into his business. But he's into a lot of things. And I just, and he's not quiet either. A lot of people, a lot of people thinks he's quiet.
Starting point is 00:15:18 But he's not quiet. Now, in practice, were you just sitting there watching his every move in that? Like, what was something? in practice that you took from him? Again, pad level. Pad lover coming off the ball. It was when he first got to the Eagles. So I played with him in Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:15:37 But when he got to the Eagles and it was like a day we was out there practice and it was rouse on air. And he had like this deep over. And you can tell everybody just sit back and just watch. And he was just gliding across the field. And he's so fast, even at the age, it was like, man, he's still moving. He still looks good. And so.
Starting point is 00:15:55 But that pad level coming off the ball. and stopping on the dime, EB's up getting out of there. And that's one thing that just caught my eye, Tom, you know, the greatest quarterback of all time, your favorite quarterback, too, as I'm well aware, you know, you got his jersey, and you got Julian's jersey, all that good stuff.
Starting point is 00:16:11 But, um, all right, he's waiting on yours. But, um, emphasize all the time pad level, and that's the second time that you said pad level, and that's what it's all about. And he would flip out. He would come up to you, yo, your pad level.
Starting point is 00:16:23 I know when you're going to break. The DB knows when you're going to break in rap. When I see you do that, literally my eyes are on you. And right when you change your pad level, my eyes are off of you. And he stresses so much. And I'd be like, I'd be trying to work. And I'm like, Tom, man, I'm in my 30s now. My body just won't let me stay at the same pad level anymore.
Starting point is 00:16:41 I'm trying to break down. But like everything's just not coordinating anymore. My pad level is getting high when I'm trying to break down. He's like, fine. And I'm not going to throw you the ball. But it made so much sense to me that pad level is everything. I heard him talking about JSN as well the other week. He goes, look how great.
Starting point is 00:16:57 of a route runner is. And the reason why he's so great, because his pad level is the same at every single level, no matter what, if it's at beginning of the route, if at end of his route, or if he's breaking down. And that's the hardest thing to cover is pad level.
Starting point is 00:17:09 So that's huge that you stress that. And let all these other wide receivers know that because pad level is everything. And it seems so easy just to say that. But it's one of the hardest things to do. And you have to work on it every single day. What do you do to make sure that your pad level is always the same? because you've been talking about it.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Yeah. So when I'm in the off season, most of the time I have me someone who records me and records me up close and in front. So I have a direct visual. Am I leaning over? And almost to the point where I'm over-exaggerating and I'm almost about to fall in my face.
Starting point is 00:17:44 And so, but, and I think it's really that simple. And make sure my knees are up when I'm coming off the ball. I put a little pad so I can step over so I get the knee drive going, but making sure I'm still in that 45-degree angle because naturally your body is going to want to raise up when you running, especially when you're running force. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:18:01 So he used to flip out of me. You're raising up. Wow. I'm like, yo, I don't know. It's just doing it. Like, I know I am, but I can't control it, bro. Like, I got hit too many times. One thousand.
Starting point is 00:18:12 I mean, he was very tough. Always, always. About that as well. But my pad, I was, it's different for, you guys are bigger guys. Yeah, yeah. So your pad level is much harder. It's harder for bigger guys. So much muscle in the way.
Starting point is 00:18:24 You were, you were like, really, really quick. Yeah. You don't understand. Like, you don't have to be hunched over. No. It's a ball of energy. Yeah. You just bought, and it was gone.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Yeah. All right. Well, let's get back on to Julio Jones. Now, did you, did you, when you guys played together, did he ask, did he asked, did you offer it to me? No, he didn't. Did you offer it to me? I did. See, he's looking at.
Starting point is 00:18:46 I did. That's nice of you. I did. But did you offer it with a fee? No, I didn't. I did it. Oh, for free. Not the free to charge the person that I grew up.
Starting point is 00:18:55 watching like you know how would that make i i idle tom brave bow charge his ass if he ever wanted my number oh man what's your mount rushmore of number 11s just think about it hmm i mean well i only know i don't know that many either yeah this is a tough question i don't know three that was a terrible i'm putting myself yeah i'm putting you i take it i'm putting larry that's all julian wanted to hear I know. I'm putting Larry. This is fun.
Starting point is 00:19:33 I did write that question. I don't know. I don't know a four. Who's writing questions? Julio didn't worry. Oh, yeah, you did. I'm tripping. Wow, what am I doing?
Starting point is 00:19:41 Julio. Yeah. He'd had so many numbers. She had two and 80. Namar. Namar was number 11. You got Larry Fitzgerald. The soccer player,
Starting point is 00:19:50 Namer. Yeah. Oh, all right. So we're talking number 11 as a whole. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, okay. As a whole. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Who's out there? Yeah. Amar is definitely there. Janikowski. Oh, the kicker? Was Janikowski number 11? The Oakland Raiders kicker? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Guy who smoked cigarettes, drank beers. No idea who they did. You don't know who Janikovsky is? Janikovsky was his old kicker. He put to like, what, 44 years old? Yes, and he was, it was literally when they would have the breakdown, you know how we get our installs and like our scouting reports on punters and everything.
Starting point is 00:20:21 Like in his scouting report, we'll probably have a bottle of vodka on him. Loves to drink vodka. Like that was his thing. Everyone knew about Janikowski. What else do we got on Julio Jones? What did you think about his catch in the Super Bowl when we were playing him? That was an insane catch. I mean, that insane catch.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Who would have ever thought? The post out. Yeah. No, no, the catch on the sidelines. Correct. The pulls out. Yeah, it was a post out. But you want to know something as well.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Everything went downhill after that catch. That's when they lost momentum. He had that catch. And then it was like, okay, the game over now. They got a sack. They're in field goal position. And then they took a sack. took another sack, I think FOMO there.
Starting point is 00:20:58 But what do you think about that catch in such a clutch moment? That was a crazy catch because it was 55, two men. He had a guy underneath. I think that was Logan. Yeah. Yeah. And I played with Logan. Yeah, he's a smart guy.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Logan Ryan. He'll be in the right place every time. Every time. Every time. We battled a lot. Yeah. We did too. I used to be in the fight.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Oh, he was on the same routes on a motherfucker. He knows your routes. He knows. He knows. And he's smart enough to know my four. Exactly. Exactly. So we're probably same fight. What's his greatest catch of all time, Julio Joneses?
Starting point is 00:21:34 Leo? Let me think. Probably that catch, no? He had some monster. Yeah, some insane catches in place. I'm sorry. Most insane play. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:21:43 I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, McEl. The one he snatched, even though the Falcons were losing, he snatched it away from. Oh, that end breaker. Yeah. No, no, no. Was it in cut where he took it away from him?
Starting point is 00:21:55 That's a good catch, too. But I'm talking about in the end zone, like the game was already decided. He took it off Malcolm Butler's head. He snatched it away from him. He was like taking candy from a baby. Yeah. He was just pure dominance. Yeah, the game was over.
Starting point is 00:22:08 But it was a, he threw a fade up to him and it just, it was bad. Jeez. It was bad. But that, that big end that you were talking about was it was a really bad. I thought that was an insane catch. That is. When you're running at the ball, I thought, I always used to think the hardest catch is when you're at a full sprint. towards the ball.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Towards the ball. You know what I mean? Like the end breaker, a short end. Like, that's why I'm so impressed with you. You got to come back to the ball. One of your best things is that you, when you hit your slant,
Starting point is 00:22:36 you can run full speed through the catch. That's like a hard catch because he's putting his mustard on. You got your momentum going and you got a dude on the back of you. And those are hard catches. And it's something simple as, like in the off season, just running full speed and let the quarterback throw you the ball. Hard as you can.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Hard as you can. Run a 45 degree angle and run as hard as you can. can and do not take your feet out the ground. Keep your feet on the ground. That's the key to go out the back door. 1,000. I mean, I'm going to start watching your keys because this guy got keys to the cars. You would have got a lot better wide receiver.
Starting point is 00:23:07 You talked to Julio. I'm saying Julio Jones. If you talked to our guy right here. If we had A.J. Brown, bro, we might have gone undefeated. Yeah. I mean, fucking guys spinning knowledge left and right. But not even that. Just peer dominance.
Starting point is 00:23:24 That's all time. said was pad level. I swear that's kind of what ruined my career a little bit. My pad level wasn't there anymore. My pad level, it went away when I got to like 28 years old. And then I was always fighting in it. No, you weren't.

We talk about what drives us, what shapes us, and what gives us hope. We get honest about the big stuff, identity when you don't recognize yourself anymore, loss that changes you, purpose when success isn't enough, peace when your mind won't slow down,
Starting point is 00:25:24 faith when it's complicated. Some guests have answers. Most are still figuring it out. If you've ever felt like there has to be more to the story, this show is for you. Listen to if you can hear me on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to the A building. I'm Hans Charles. I'm Inalick Lamoma.
Starting point is 00:25:49 It's 1969. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. Have both been assassinated. And Black America was out of breaking point. Writing and protests broke out on an unprecedented scale. In Atlanta, Georgia at Martin's Almermata, Moore House College, the students had their own protest. It featured two prominent figures in black history, Martin Luther King Sr. and a young student, Samuel L. Jackson.
Starting point is 00:26:15 To be in what we really thought was a revolution. I mean, people would die. In 1968, the murder of Dr. King, which traumatized everyone. The FBI had a role in the murder of a Black Panther leader in Chicago. This story is about protest. It echoes in today's world far more than it should, and it will blow your mind. Listen to the A-building on the I-Heart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:26:41 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Bowen-Yang. And I'm Matt Rogers. During this season of the Two Guys' Five Rings podcast, in the lead-up to the Milan Quartina-26 Winter Olympic Games, we've been joined by some of our friends. Hi, Bois, hi, Matt. Hey, Elmo.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Hey, Matt, hey, Bowen. Hi, Kirkie. Hi. Now, the Winter Olympic Games are underwomen. way and we are in Italy to give you experiences from our hearts to your ears listen to two guys five rings on the iHeart radio app app or podcast or wherever you get your podcast what kind of dude is julio jones so what this this shows basically about is we'll determine what kind of guy he is in the locker room as you can see we have five different categories we have a stud someone who's a
Starting point is 00:27:32 freaking he's been a first round draft pick athleticism everything he's been the guy his whole life got the freak who walks in. And we'll just say D.K. McCaff. He looks like a freak. I mean, look at his body. You're like, holy shit. I mean, Julio could be a freak because that motherfucker's fast and big. You got a dog who's relentless, motivated, physically, mentally tough, the whiz, who's got the Riz, the intellect, the innovativeness, the clutch factor.
Starting point is 00:27:58 And then the dude's dude. He's like the glue guy in the locker room that everyone fucks with. He's the guy who's going to have the beers. And for example, Jason Kelsey was a dude's dude. He brought everyone together. There's a leader. He's a dude. And everyone, every NFL player is basically everything.
Starting point is 00:28:13 But we're talking about what, you know, categorizes them the most. And Jason Kelsey felt like he was the dude, dude, you know, for us. So we're trying to figure out now who, what type of dude, Julio Jones is. And obviously, he pretty freaky. And buddy Studley as well, you know, what do you think? What do you think? We may have to go with free. I mean, there's no other answer.
Starting point is 00:28:35 He walks in through the door, just like you. You got freak tendencies too, bro. Tendencies, but it's the difference. How much bigger is he than you? I'm not trying to glaze no man, but he is, he was made in the lab. He was made in the lab. He was made in the lab. If you're saying man in the lab, then you're a freak.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Yeah. No matter what. Julio Jones. Freak. All right. Now, this is the time of the interview where we have our series, we have our series of patent questions that we'll ask you to determine. what kind of guy we think you are.
Starting point is 00:29:09 We're trying to figure out what kind of dude. Let us get a little new box. These are quick hitting questions, nothing crazy, you know. But no, before we get into it, well, here's the bone I wanted to pick with you, obviously, the quarterback, Tom Brady, you get his jersey. It's all over the internet, greatest guy. And I'm like, oh, obviously, yeah, obviously, who isn't a fan of Tom? And then you get Julian Adam's Jersey. It's all over the internet.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Oh, big fan of Julian Edelman. And I'm sitting there like, you know, it's going to be so cool when A.J. Brown, calls me up and asks for my jersey. What the fuck am I? Chop liver? Yeah. Chop liver and I still never got to call. I'm like, I'm a big fan of A.J. Brown, but like, I can't show it. I want him to pretend he's a big fan of me. So one day, I just, I hope I get the jersey exchange with you, man. That's all I'm asking for.
Starting point is 00:29:55 It's not my fault. But I get it. I'm not a wide receiver and also I'm not the quarterback who throws the ball to. Two things. That's not my fault of my one. I reached out to the Instagram page. What Instagram? P. They're wrong. Mine? Yeah, y'all, y'all Instagram page.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Dudes on dudes? Dudes on dudes. So whoever's responsible for that, you blame him. Sam is dead. Can I bring him up here? So you blame him. You blame him. But I thought that I probably gave you confirmation when it was in Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:30:25 You see what I'm saying? Actually, I did talk about that. Remember? I could not come over there. I was walking out of the tunnel and I was like my assignment. I was like, it was my, bro. We gave an podcast. We were like, yo, whatever.
Starting point is 00:30:37 Yeah, yeah. And I came back, I said, yo, that was so much cooler than giving them a jersey. Yeah. But I still wanted to Jersey. No, right. No problem. All right, let's get into these questions. That made me feel good in Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Quick hitting questions. I walked away. I go, yeah, I was talking to how long. I'm like, yo, AJ Brown, massive. That was the closest I ever been to you, like when you were walking out of the time. I'm like, how was he that big? And he moves like that?
Starting point is 00:31:00 Because I love big fellow, you know, athletes. I mean, it's hard to move when you're big. You're carrying so much. and you see these little guys, Julian and Danny, I swear you guys recover in like a day. And actually overnight. You guys recover, you can go full speed the next day, on the field, off the field, no matter what it is.
Starting point is 00:31:16 But big guys, you know, we have so much mass, there's so much muscle and you got to recover. And even at the wide receiver position, you're a bigger dude. So I'm like, I love and I look up to guys that are big and how they do it because it's just so hard to move. And I'm in that same situation. That's why I looked at Howie after you walked through the tunnel, after you gave me those eyes,
Starting point is 00:31:35 I was like, dang, he massive and he can still move like that. That's impressive. Let me get that glaze off your face. What is that? Let me get that. Oh, come here. I was giving him a problem. I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:45 All right, let's start the question. Oh, yeah, you're coming at me. All right. All right, AJ, these are quick hitters. Nothing special. Nothing special. Who's the most famous person in your phone? Tom.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Tom. Tom Brady? Why is he in your phone? You guys don't play. You never play together. B. over there trying. He still thinks he's playing.
Starting point is 00:32:04 I see. Tommy. I see. He's trying to get, he's trying to get inside info. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. We're not getting in that. Let's not go down to the room. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:32:14 What's that call when you're talking to a player when you're not? I don't know. We're not going down now. Next question. It's not. No. Camponi. All right.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Oh, I got to ask you a question. What's the last book that you read? And we're not talking about while on the sidelines. Just the last book over a. The let them theory. The what? Let them theory. Let them theory.
Starting point is 00:32:37 What is that about? Basically, just let people just be who they are. And they're going to maybe talk about you or say things or you basically taking your control back from things that you can't control. Thanks. So someone just coming at you trying to claim that you're this dude, they never even met you before. This is your character. And it doesn't even bother you one single bit. Let them theory.
Starting point is 00:33:00 And you're just letting them say what they want to say. Exactly. And without even, without even saying anything back. That's what's up. That's dope. Most importantly, not just saying anything back, but just really not letting it get to you. Like Bruce. Like Bruce Lee said, don't, there ain't no.
Starting point is 00:33:15 What do you say? There's no, no ripple in my pond. You know something? Every, every athlete, every person in the spotlight should actually probably read that book. It's a great book. No matter what, I don't care who you are, you let people get to you when you first get into the spotlight. That's a skill that you got to develop. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Like, yo, who gives this shit what they said about me? But at first, when you give so much shit, it hounds you, and it affects you, affects your play, affects your personality as well of who you really are. If you let people get to you. Absolutely. Everyone should read that book. Send me a copy. You let them theory. The let them theory.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Okay. How many books have you read in the last year? Like, smart. That's what I got to say. Xbox or PlayStation? How many books have you all written the last year? Dude, I haven't read since, I want to say, 1992, where the Redburn grows. I don't read that book.
Starting point is 00:34:10 The two dogs? I don't read books. I just look at pictures. Yeah. You know, let Ron fool you. He'll sit and sit and do a 500-piece puzzle while he's reading. This guy likes to read. Matthew McConaughey.
Starting point is 00:34:26 The Green Light? Yeah, the Green Light. Xbox or PlayStation? PC, but. He's always, he's a real game. He's a real gamer. He's a real gamer, folks. Wait, what?
Starting point is 00:34:36 PC? Yeah. That's PlayStation? He built a computer. PC. This guy's too smart for me, bro. PC. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:48 What was your first car? And what do you drive now? First car was a Dodge charger. Harder. Dang. Like official battery. And then what do you got now? Wait, how did you afford to Dodge Charger?
Starting point is 00:35:03 When did you get that? Dodd's charger in high school? It's my dad's car. I was going to say a school was already paying you when you're in high school. I did not receive any money from any school. I wasn't saying that. But you were implying. No,
Starting point is 00:35:18 receiving a car is not receiving money. Absolutely. Bro. It's just a car. The let them theory, bro. Don't assume. Don't assume. I need to practice what I'm freezing.
Starting point is 00:35:28 Let's go. That's a testimony and he passed. Oh, what do you drive now? Rose, Rose. Oh, shit. That's my favorite car. Oh, that's a little. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Does the roll stand for a cinnamon roll? If you want to name it that. Oh, yeah. Cinnamon roll. But I had a rose in high school. Oh. I envisioned it. I used to put the Rose Rush signal on my steering wheel.
Starting point is 00:35:56 I manifested that. You manifested that shit. Who's your favorite superhero? I don't really have my Black Panther. Black Panther? Black Panther? All right. How about some hobbies outside of football?
Starting point is 00:36:11 I'm a big movie guy, big TV show. Favorite movie? Bad Boys, too. Oh, dang. That was a good one. Bad Boys One was really good. So when my daughter is going to start dating, I'm going to have Gronk and you come over. Okay, yeah, and play that scene.
Starting point is 00:36:27 We get the same. Absolutely. Perfect. I'll be at the dorm. What's your name, sir? Could you imagine that man, you can turn it around? You can catch that Uber that's right there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:39 The crossbow. Julian, I hate crock. All right, what's your fastest 40 time? 4-4-2. So I ran a 4-38, bro. How much you bench? The last time I, it was in college. It was like 3, 15.
Starting point is 00:37:02 I didn't do like that. That's impressive. I didn't do not. I don't live like that anymore. Yeah, right? I don't. I don't. Yeah, me neither.
Starting point is 00:37:12 They'll let them the theory. I don't know. You're just trying to put a rock in my pond. The song on your highlight tape in high school. Oh, my. Did you have a highlight tape in high school that you put the song on? I'm the man. I'm the man.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Dang, that's pretty good. Or Rich Army Kwan, Walk Through. There we go. All right. What sports did you play in high school? Not all, but basketball, baseball. Three-sporter? He's a three-sport.
Starting point is 00:37:41 Four years? No. Why not? What do you mean? Because I didn't play football. Like, it wasn't what I wanted to do. When did you start playing football? My 10 year.
Starting point is 00:37:52 Going until the spring. Okay. So that's when you started. What made you, like, you didn't play your freshman year? What made you want to play your sophomore year? I was just kind of bored during the time. Honestly. I was playing in, I was practicing baseball and boring during those times.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Just hitting. Yeah. Did you like play flag football or any of the football in the back guy prior to that? Or I was just like, I'm going to play football. I mean, I played peewee football with my friends and everything. And then I got the seventh grade and I was a kicker. I couldn't. I was afraid, honestly.
Starting point is 00:38:24 And I could really catch still. I can catch still good. And I just stopped again and I picked the back up. Wait, man. Yeah. I was a kicker. Did you say in seventh grade? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:35 This guy, AJ Brown who looks like Batman on the field. Guess what number? Is 40. 40? I was number four. I couldn't even get a jersey. I can't even get on the field.
Starting point is 00:38:44 No sticks? No sticks. No sticks. No sticks. You didn't get a single digit. No. I had that dribble. Now, last question.
Starting point is 00:39:04 Rob, do you want to ask it? Yeah, how do you eat your steak? Mediumware. Rare. Medium rare. All right. And do you use utensils or just bare hands or depending on the situation? What if it's like a ribeye and it's a bone in ribby and no one's looking?
Starting point is 00:39:19 Yeah. A utensil? You grab the bone with utensils? No, I mean, I'm going to. You never. You're going to. And the bone? Oh, have I never done it?
Starting point is 00:39:28 You're not it off? Nah. I'm in public when I'm getting ribbons. bias. Me too. I'd be just grabbing it by the bone and eating it. No, really,
Starting point is 00:39:38 he really does. No, I really do. Okay. But I got like a free pass. I let them think whatever they want about me when I'm driving. What kind of dude is Ajorie? Let us,
Starting point is 00:39:51 let us meet for a second here real big. He's strong as hell. 15. Way more than you. He's a woman. Got a rolls, but had a charger. was that he but he got the he reads a lot of books
Starting point is 00:40:07 medium rare will only use pencil how do you guys are steak yeah that's a question neither he's neither no I'm thinking what are you thinking hey what he's there there uh yeah that right there uh yeah that right there All right. Ready.
Starting point is 00:40:35 On three, one, two, three, stud. Now, we were debating on stud dog, but the utensil thing. Yeah. You know, sometimes a dog will just grab that thing out. For sure, for sure. Rip it off. Right. But we thought you were a doggly stud.
Starting point is 00:40:51 Doggly stud. Yeah. Yeah. And, I mean, playing all the sports drafted as a baseball player as well in the 19th round. Didn't start playing football until ninth grade. So, like, it really, that's just studly, bro. You come in and then you become A.J. Brown, a freaking force on the field. Man, it's been really fun to sit here and get to chop it up with you, bro.
Starting point is 00:41:14 And just remember, we're all patriots. You know that, right? Are you going to be a patriot? Are you going to be a patron? Do you want to be a patron? I'm trolling. I'm sorry. Hey, hey, but would you be a raven?
Starting point is 00:41:35 Did you see what Derek Henry's been saying over the last couple 24 hours? Yeah, he's like, oh, AJ Brown come to the Ravens and let's win a championship. Are you going to call Hollywood or I was going to be like, yo, did you see what Derek Henry says? I'm just going to tell Derek. All right. Now, what are you going to be? He's a little bit crazy, Derek. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:53 That's a good place to where you go to read that book right there when people are. Oh, you just let, let them. Let him. Let Derek Henry be. I get it. What kind of dude is Derek Henry? He's a freak, right? He looks like a defensive end, bro.
Starting point is 00:42:09 That just... And he's still going. He's still going. Well, how many yards? He had like 1,600 yards last year? Yeah, he's still going. I think he's going to even have a better year next year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Nothing phases him. He gets better as a year goes on as well. As his career goes on, he gets better. What's up with this post-lane Kiffin at Ole Miss? Are we worried? Are we good? I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:42:33 I get it. I get it. He's out of it. Yeah. They got Lacey. I really like to run it back there, Lacey. And maybe he put them on his back. What if they called him on his back?
Starting point is 00:42:44 What if they called you're like, yo, yo, Jay, we need some NIL money. Nope. That's a good answer. That's for the boosters. Yeah. That was a hell of a run they had last year. It was. I mean, that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:42:56 And they got two, did they get two wins in the playoff? They didn't win three times. They had two win. They won twice in the playoff. No coaching staff. Impressive run. Very impressive. Do you ever meet Lane Kiffin?
Starting point is 00:43:10 Mm-hmm. Seems great. Yeah. Seems like you got a lot of juice. A lot of energy. I don't know. I didn't get the juice. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:43:19 He had no juice when you met him. I mean, it was. Impassive. Yeah. It was impressive. Yeah. You can't see the juice when you. Yeah, you can't see the juice when that's.
Starting point is 00:43:27 But all the, all the kids love him, my, my brother. He loves him. He played for him. moment. There's a great guy. And then lastly, I'll ask him this question. Yeah. What does football mean to you? What does football mean to me? Yeah. Good question.
Starting point is 00:43:44 Great question. I'm Granistadamus. Um, football. Would you ever believe that that I'm Grand Stadamus? I don't even know that. What does that mean? Like, who's the guy? That. What's his name? What's that mean? Nostradamus. He's like the predictor. Like, I'm basically a genius.
Starting point is 00:44:08 Okay. Would you believe that? Yeah. I'm just going to let him be. I just let you thought that. Yeah, yeah. But I say football means, I would want to say it's like the love of my life. But he can get grimy.
Starting point is 00:44:28 You understand? Yeah. You know? Yeah. Yeah. It can get grimy. But the game is still the game. and it's still
Starting point is 00:44:37 beautiful if you treated it as such so it's kind of like you're dating I mean yeah you know you just can't live with it can't live without it yeah and he's just hopefully
Starting point is 00:44:49 hopefully he's loyal back to you yeah you know Is your game of football loyal That's a great question It can be I don't know No no I say I say no
Starting point is 00:45:01 I say no She'll move on She will move on Because she will move on Because she'll move on because she'll You truly don't move on from the game of football because the game of football is going to be there. The game of football moves on from you.
Starting point is 00:45:15 It really does. You have to realize that. Even if you're like, yo, I want to play the game of football. And you just don't have it anymore. The game of football is like, no, we're good. Holy shit. Never thought of that. Yeah, I mean, I need to start reading that book.
Starting point is 00:45:28 Yeah. Or read. Yeah. AJ. Wait, wait. I've seen you read. You can't read. I know.
Starting point is 00:45:35 I know. That's a point, Rob. That's a point. Thank you. You can get better at it if you practice. I'm trying. I'm trying. Is this like what your locker room's like?
Starting point is 00:45:45 Absolutely. That's what it's all about, dude. Yeah, I'm fortunate to do you're part of some great locker room. Hey, we appreciate you coming on in dipping into our locker room. Thanks again, bro. You got anything to plug? Anything. Any sponsorships?
Starting point is 00:46:00 What's that commercial that you're on that treadmill? The Geico. Guyco. They play. It's going to. Oh, they got enough money. It's going to keep running. I was thinking, though, when you did that commercial, because that's one of those
Starting point is 00:46:12 treadmills that you have to run with good form. How many takes did it take? At least like 15. Oh, my. I'm telling you, because I got tired and then there was like, hey, speed up, AJ, speed up. So I'm like, oh, wow. And I have to remember the lines, even though it wasn't too bad, but now I'm breathing harder. And so it turned into a workout.
Starting point is 00:46:34 I was thinking that, dude. I was like, I know he had, because he ran, when you, when you do your line on that curve, the curve, you got to like pay attention and have right form or it'll fucking slip on you. And he's over here saying a line. I had to save my shirt and out. He's like, how many times did he fucking do? Yeah. He had to do that like 10 times. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:53 Thanks, bro. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you, man. Thank you. Thank you. We'll be right back after this quick break. I'm Dylan Playfair.

When you look at your car, you're going to become overwhelmed with such good feelings. feelings. Can you hypnotize someone into sleeping with you? I gave her some suggestions to be sexually aroused. Can you get someone to join your cult? NLP was used on me to access my subconscious.
Starting point is 00:50:29 NLP, aka neurolinguistic programming, is a blend of hypnosis, linguistics, and psychology. Fans say it's like finally getting a user manual for your brain. It's about engineering consciousness. Mind games is the story of NLP. It's crazy cast of disciples and the, and the The fake doctor who invented it at a new age commune and sold it to guys in suits. He stood trial for murder and got acquitted. The biggest mind game of all, NLP, might actually work. This is wild. Starting point is 00:51:08 Oh my gosh, Julian. I'm feeling a little thirsty. I feel like I need to rehydrate. I got a little something for you. Yeah, drink up and lock in because it's time for everyone's favorite game. Do You Know Ball, the game where we answer football questions so thought provoking. You'll need a liquid IV by the end. There you go.
Starting point is 00:51:26 Wow. Thank you, man. Let's get into it. All right. Do you know ball presented by Liquid Ivy? You win the coin toss. What do you do? Celebrate that I'm super smart and psychic.
Starting point is 00:51:43 And then I take the ball and then I just run it down the defensive. You're taking ball? I'm taking ball. Unless if it's overtime, I'm deferring them. Overtime in the playoffs. Over time in the playoffs, I'm giving the ball. That's why I deferred. But if you defer, you're allowing them to make the decision.
Starting point is 00:52:01 I'm not deferring. I'm giving them the ball. All right. I like it. So I'm going to defer. Yeah, you're deferring now? No, I'm deferring in regular, and then I'm giving the ball to them on overtime. So in regular season, you're going to defer and then just let them get the choice if they want the ball?
Starting point is 00:52:18 It wouldn't. What are we talking? Pregame or are we talking overtime? Oh, pregame. Pregame? I'm deferring. So I get the ball at halftime. Okay, that makes sense.
Starting point is 00:52:28 I want the ball at half. I want to do the 10-point swing. This is why I'm not a coach. Yeah, whatever. Yeah. Training routine that helped you the most. Oh, running sprints. Just running.
Starting point is 00:52:40 Playing the game of football, running routes. I think route running for me. There you go. We're both on the same page. Route running. Yeah, same page. That means you people out. there you players rot run if you're a rot run
Starting point is 00:52:51 Tom used to yell at us all the time saying you know you can't get better at football unless you play football remember wow time you're so smart average speed with elite hands or average hands with elite speed oh oh uh average speed with elite hands because that was me I'm going I'm going average hands with I'm going I rather have elite speed yeah but if you can't catch the ball Well, then guess what?
Starting point is 00:53:21 But you have average hands. You're going to have more touchdowns. Wait. What? So if you have elite speed and say you get thrown 10 balls and with average hands. That's eight drops. So you only have two catches. So average guy drops a ball eight times out of 10?
Starting point is 00:53:41 Yeah, average hands do. No, I would say an average guy probably catches the ball seven out of 10. All right. I'm done with this argument. Next, next one. What's harder to manage nerves or physical fatigue? Probably physical fatigue because you can't really do anything about it. Like nerves, you can kind of control a little bit more, but physical fatigue.
Starting point is 00:54:05 Like nerves, you can keep going through. You can keep powering through running, but physical fatigue, like, you're done. Yeah. There's no adjustment to that. I agree. Nerves, the first hit, they go away. second and two from midfield what are you dialing up a play action deep pass
Starting point is 00:54:22 because they think you're going to run the ball get the first down and then the linebacker step up but I'm talking deep you got to go deep because then you just run the ball on third and two and get the first down I'm running a draw last one over under two and a half catches if you played in the game tomorrow I would go
Starting point is 00:54:39 well there's kind of a lot of games where I was under two and a half catches end of my career but i'll still go over it's a big game i'm taking over for yeah just give me a couple slim um passes or like for you i you can't even jog anymore but i i could get oh i if it's a zone game oh zone i'll find it i'll find a couple spots maybe yeah you'll get open you know zone well i would figure it out so you would get three catches over i would probably get two all right so under under tired and thirsty julian pass me some liquid iv you already did
Starting point is 00:55:17 I know you did but I need double up I want a double fist I want a double fist well fine you already passed me some but give me another give me that one double fisting baby thank you brother and that was another edition of do you know ball presented by liquid IV dehydrated well that's been another episode of dudes on dudes presented by liquid Thank you again to AJ Brown for joining us today.
