He would have been playing for the, the freaking Bratwurst or whatever. What do they have? The Poland Broughtwurst. The Polish sausages. I would have definitely never came back to America if I'd play for Polish sausages. Oh, I'd be a perfect fit. I'd be a hero there in Poland. Welcome to Dudes on Dudes. I'm Julian Edelman.

Springtime is sizzling in the air. The Gulf Falls is somewhere in the fucking woods. And we are back in Boston. And what are we talking about today, Robbie?
Starting point is 00:03:27 The city of champions, ladies and gentlemen. And we're talking about Julian getting his red jacket. I would have never thought I would have got to. Be a Patriot Hall of Famer. It's a freaking honor. It was a no-brainer to put your first battle. Then we get into the greatest kicker of all time, Adam Vinatary. Confidence.
Starting point is 00:03:46 That's what you want in a kicker. And one of the toughest O-Lyman ever, Logan Mankins. Logan, rip your f***ing face off. Mankins. Logan, sweetheart Mankins. And then we wrap it up doing some soul searching this week. Oh, soul searching. On this week's chill is due to the week presented by Coors Light.
Starting point is 00:04:05 You gotta stick around to the end. Let's go. Let's go. Dudes on dudes is a production of I Heart Radio. So, Rob, we took dudes on dudes on the road. We're here in Boston, right in the back bay, the heat of the city. Beautiful time of year. How fucking beautiful is it outside?
Starting point is 00:04:27 Bro, I love New England weather, especially... No, you love New England weather in May. That's where I was getting to. You know, especially in the summertime on a beautiful sunny day. And it pops more than the islands, than the Bahamas, than the Caribbean islands, than anywhere down in Florida. It's great being there in January, February. You get the sunshine, 85 degrees in those spots. But when that sun shines and it's above 75 degrees in New England, up here in the northern states, in Buffalo included, New York included, you know, Vermont included.
Starting point is 00:05:06 I mean, it's just a whole. different level of vibes, man. Everyone is just running out their front door to get outside, feel that sunlight, feel that energy. And let me tell you, Boston feels it right now, man. When I got off that pike and I turned through that tunnel and I got out in the streets of, you know, of Boston, who, it was mayhem, man. I felt that people walking around. People everywhere, man. It felt like I was in New York City on like a bright sunny day as well, because there's people everywhere at every corner in New York City. but here in Boston on a bright sunny day, man. There was people at every corner.
Starting point is 00:05:41 I mean, I'm talking stacks and stacks and stacks of people. Waiting at the next red light for the walking signal to turn green. There's about 50 people. Yeah, that's a lot. They're waiting. A lot. And the scenery. I went in golf to this morning at Milton, some country club.
Starting point is 00:06:00 What was it? Wallaston. Beautiful course. And going back to the nice weather. when you get that nice weather in like late spring in Boston and the freaking trees are blooming, the freaking plants are popping. I mean, it smells good. It's just a great time of the year.
Starting point is 00:06:21 These are the days that you need when you live here in this city because of the whole four months of misery when it starts in late November to probably right now. It's kind of like today's everyone is popping their cherry, you know. for their first time this whole entire year. It's a cherry popping Sunday. And we missed the cherry blossoms. That's probably three weeks ago. You know the cherry blossoms on Com Ave where they bloom.
Starting point is 00:06:49 People come around the world to just take pictures of right down here. All these trees, they bloom. It's beautiful. We're going to have to catch it next year. We're going to. Got a shout out Joe Cardonia. Yeah. You know, his wedding was the other day.
Starting point is 00:07:04 How was that, Jules? How was Joe Cardona's wedding? It was awesome. It was awesome. Got to see the captain, Slate was there. A couple of the new generation pets, a new punter, the schooler kid. Dietrich Wise was there from the commanders. He played with New England for a long time. Ryan Allen was there.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Steve Gaskowski was there. Matt Falk was there. I mean, all the specialists were there. Shout out to Joe and his beautiful wife. Well, first off, all the specialists were there. Well,
Starting point is 00:07:41 the Joel's besides one because I'm special. And I wasn't there as a specialist. So you got to listen. You guys were just missing one specialist. I think you were invited. It's okay. I think you were probably some, I think you had to go to Australia for.
Starting point is 00:07:58 I'm too special. Okay. You were probably in Australia for an ice shaker commercial for 24 hours. which is a true story, by the way. Guy went to Australia for 24 hours for a fucking eye-shaker commercial. But let me explain this. Let me explain it. So he has his wedding.
Starting point is 00:08:17 It's in this beautiful old Roman Catholic church. The thing was built in probably 1732 after the Revolutionary War, which needed 40 more years or something like that. And then we go over to the Museum of Fine Arts. And we have like a little, you walk up, And it feels like you're at the Met Gallag because there's all these goddamn candles everywhere. It was so beautiful. Then you go up these stairs and we had like a part of the museum that we had a cocktail hour in.
Starting point is 00:08:46 And I'm like sitting here. I'm like, Jesus Christ, this is freaking nice. And then we go down to like the big area and they had a awesome band. They could hit all the genres, a little soul, little Taylor Swift shit. They had it all, man. It was a fun wedding. Great to catch up with a lot of the people. you know we had a lot of memories with so shout out to joe and lily and she did she actually had all these
Starting point is 00:09:10 drawings throughout she drew so like you you see the napkins it'd be like the two there are two dogs and a house like all these like sketches and then like at the church on the pamphlet it was like she did a drawing of the church like so she did all this cool stuff too it was a really cool freaking wedding really uh smart people when you anytime you're at the museum of fine arts there's you know joe married in some good genes let's just say that i heard you talking as well earlier about joe you know just so many great things about him but you kind of also mentioned that he could possibly run for president you know one day is that true is that true you see that in him or what do you think like he's got a squeaky clean record he's he went to the the naval academy
Starting point is 00:09:58 like he served and and played professional sports can handle the pressure can handle the pressure Like whenever you hear him speak in front of the people, he has real thoughtful speaking skills. His wife is like a lawyer and she's got, she's got like, she's affluent as fuck. Like, it's just like, I think he could be a politician. Mm-hmm. All right. Well, Joe, congratulations on your wedding, possibly a congratulations on running for presidency in the future. And also good luck in Miami, my friend.
Starting point is 00:10:35 luck at Miami. I just saw that you signed with the Miami Dolphins. I'm hoping that, you know, you stick with them and have a couple more years left in the NFL. He will. He will. No doubt. And plus, he's going to have, you know, he's Latina. He's going to have a nice tan on there. He sure will. And on top of all this Patriots talk, you know, you's got to see your fellow teammates and all that. What about you, Jules? You're the talk of the town with the New England Patriots, man. First ballot Hall of Famer for the New England Patriots man. Congratulations to you. Well deserved. There was no doubt in my mind that you weren't going to be a first ballot either.
Starting point is 00:11:11 I mean, what you have done for the New England Patriots organization, how many times you came in the, you know, through in the clutch situations, not just, you know, for Tom, not just for the offense, but for the whole entire organization, how many times you came in clutch for me, you know, out there on the field? Because without your success, I want to have success. So I appreciate you, brother. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:11:34 you deserve it and what was that phone call like when you got it that's my question how did that feel first off thanks for those kind words rob that means a lot um i mean it was it was a no-brainer to put you first bad yeah well regardless i mean whoever voted you in those are nice words they're fucking nice words what can i say they're nice words they're really nice i liked them they were super super nice words so i'm on you know i'll explain how i got the call let's hear it i'm on the golf course i'm on the golf course you and this golf game you in this golf game game now, man. It's not getting better.
Starting point is 00:12:05 You're kind of like. And it's not getting better. Yeah, but you're honestly getting worse. As long as your accuracy is getting better, then you're probably becoming better. Okay, well, then your game's not getting better. Your distance and power is, is there, but your accuracy needs to get better. Yeah, you know, I say your golf swings. Well, you're kind of like getting me to, you know.
Starting point is 00:12:24 I'm always. You're kind of wanting getting me to get on the golf course now. You should. You could probably be, you'd be like, you'd be like, fucking happy Gilmore out there. You and Ridd. You and Ridd are playing non-star. Stop. You know paddle sports real good, so you could square shit up.
Starting point is 00:12:38 But getting back to getting the call, I was at L-Cab. Mr. Stacey calls and hands the phone and Mr. Kraft. And, you know, we had a nice conversation. Wait, did Stacey tell you or was you like, hey, I got Mr. Craft here? I have Mr. Kraft for you. Big shot, Stacy now. He's moving up in the ranks. I think that he always does that kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Yeah, I know, but I just wanted to say that. He'll appreciate that comment. He's been there forever. man. Yeah, forever. He's going in the Patriots Hall of Fame. He should. He's dealt with a lot of media.
Starting point is 00:13:11 He's next. He's done with a lot of... He can vote himself in. We should vote him in. Yeah. I'm voting for Stacy. Yeah, so I was out of El Cab. Ended up shanking a drive right after.
Starting point is 00:13:24 A little too excited, I guess. But it was cool. You know, it was cool. You know, and I don't know any of the details. I think they'll come up with that. And, you know, that's something you get to, you know, your family loves. And it's, it's an honor to get to be in the same class with the guys that are in that, you know, Hall of Fame, you know, and, you know, as a 22-year-old me, I would have never thought I would have got to be a Patriot Hall of Fame or it's, it's freaking honor.
Starting point is 00:13:55 So. Did you shed a tear? I shed a, I, I didn't, I shed a, no, I didn't shed a tear. Well, what did you shed? Your beard? I shed a beard. I shed a beard. Not a tear.
Starting point is 00:14:09 I didn't, I felt, you know, I felt great. I felt happy for my parents. My dad likes that shit. Mm-hmm. You know, your parents like that kind of stuff. Mm-hmm. But let's get into some other stuff. What's up with Derek Carr?
Starting point is 00:14:24 Derek Carr. Is he hurt his shoulder? Is he retiring? Mm-hmm. He's retiring. He retired. He's done for good. Wow. I mean, that's kind of a short career. It was kind of like a long career for him, but also a short career at the same time because he's a quarterback. He played 11 years, which is plenty in the NFL, but also it's really not for a quarterback that's at that high of a level that's playing, you know, that consistent. I mean, he's consistent, but he's not consistent. But still at that consistency that he has is a lot better than a lot of quarterbacks out there. And then just to see him,
Starting point is 00:15:03 hang it up. He had to be hurting or something, which they said in the report said he's about to have shoulder surgery. Yeah. So he's going to be out for the whole year in 2025. So I kind of understand that, you know. And then also you got to understand if he has the love for the game still or not, you know? If you don't, well, then yes, hang it up. That's the right move to do. It's miserable to play in the NFL. If you don't have that love for the game still, it hurts every single day. I mean, you you're kind of just praying on God's word just to get you through every single day. And that's not how you want to live in the NFL. So I feel like, you know, this is the right decision for him if that's, you know, what he's feeling.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Yeah, when you say consistent, he's consistently been hit a lot in this league. He's taken a lot of sacks. He's been beat up, man. You know, some of those O lines with the Raiders, I just always remember him taking on. He's been sacked a bunch, man. And that adds up. It really does. You know, every time you get hit, you know, when you're exiting your 20s and you're
Starting point is 00:16:13 getting into those 30s, it hurts, like, when you get hit. Like, you used to be able to run like 20 miles an hour and you fall down. People don't realize on like a regular play. You're running 16 miles an hour. You fall down. You bounce up. Nothing's wrong. When you do that, like 31, 2, like you feel that in the next couple days.
Starting point is 00:16:33 you don't recover the same. And then also, I mean, anytime you're banged up and you're not really winning, that mentally can kill you. You know, he's fighting to get healthy, like the last few years. And then he gets healthy and he's been on a couple teams that have been, you know, they haven't really panned out the way he's wanted to. But you got to tip your cap to Derek Carr. He had a, you know, a pretty solid career.
Starting point is 00:17:00 You know, he threw for a lot of yards. About, I think, like above 40,000 yards in his career. Yeah, he got 41,000 yards. He's got 257 touchdowns, 112 picks, so he's two to one. Mm-hmm. You know what I mean? That's pretty good. I mean, here's the kicker, though.
Starting point is 00:17:18 He was sacked 254 times in his career. And just think about it. If you're just a person, just chilling there, and all of a sudden, you just get blindsided out of nowhere, that can literally just one of those blindside hits can literally, you know, disproportion all of your mechanics and your mindset. I mean, and he got sacked 254 times.
Starting point is 00:17:42 And how many of those were blindsided? Probably about, you know, 75 of them, I would say. So like those all add up just on a continuous basis. So therefore, yes, you think these quarterbacks don't get hit, but they really do get punished as well when you take that many sacks. So, I mean, you know, shout out to, you know, Derek Carr for his wonderful career. And most importantly, though, I would say, man, get healthy. Get healthy. You're not healthy, man.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Get healthy. Because you have a long life to live still. You have kids in the future. If you already don't have kids, you got whatever else. Coaching. You just want to be living a healthy life. That's what it's all about when football's over. So just get healthy, man.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Wonderful career. What would you describe his career as? his legacy as Jules. I'd say solid. Solid? That's about right. Solid. Not a Hall of Famer.
Starting point is 00:18:39 He had a solid career. I mean, he made the playoffs a few times. Very solid. They were always pretty competitive. Just couldn't, you know, I mean, this is a hard league, and that's the hardest position to play in this league. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:18:53 Sure is. So 11 years in National Football League. He's made a whole lot of money. He made a lot of money in this league. He's made over 200 million bucks in a bell. A lot, a lot of lot. a lot of money. He made how much money is he made? He made a lot of money. So he's made some big plays and, you know, it's going to be exciting to see what the Saints do now. I know they, who they
Starting point is 00:19:12 draft in the second round? A guy named like Tyler Schlong or something out of Louisville. Schlao? Schlao. Tyler Schlao? Tyler? I saw Dea Branch talking about him. There's no L. Dionne Branch I saw talking about him when I pulled up my Twitter the other day. And then I was like, this guy must have went to Louisville. And then I looked it up and he did go to Louisville. So Dionne Branch, shout out to Dion Branch. I love you, brother. But he was just being a little biased, I think.
Starting point is 00:19:40 He's like, he's the real deal. I've heard every quarterback that got drafted in this year's draft is the real deal. Even the six rounders, like the guy that went to the Pittsburgh Steelers from Ohio State, great, you know, college career. But there's people out there like, oh, he's going to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. But I've heard this about every draft pick so far. the Las Vegas player from North Dakota State, I think he was from, that got drafted in the seventh round or six.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Oh, he's going to be a heck of a starter for. Tyler Mallet, Melet? You know, a heck of a starter for the Raiders in the future. Is he? Yeah, he's a receiver, right? Already? Yeah, he's turning a receiver. I've heard the comps.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Really? He's kind of like, he's been, you know, my story, his story. We'll see if it lines up at the end. if he can pull off of jewels. No one can pull off of jewels. He made $205 million. Derek Carr. $205 million.
Starting point is 00:20:40 You know what? It doesn't matter if he got a Super Bowl. It doesn't matter. I mean, playoff wins he has. It doesn't matter if he's healthy. He can buy his health now. He can buy a new show. This guy made $205 million.
Starting point is 00:20:52 I mean, he can go to China right now and have an AI doctor work on him. Literally. they have fucking 42 AI doctors working in a hospital right now well Tommy Mallet we were just talking about you as well don't change positions man don't change positions 205 million quarterback shout out man that's awesome congratulations to him in his career you've been watching these hoops I have been I don't really watch NBA regular season or or NHL regular season hard either but then all of a sudden when NHL playoffs come and like NBA playoffs come I'm the biggest fan out of the
Starting point is 00:21:27 there and you know the comparison between an NHL game in the regular season and a NHL playoff game is literally night in day man so is it is it is it the same comparison to a regular season game in the NBA compared to a playoff NBA game a a little bit you know I would say NBA playoffs and NBA regular season game are you know more of the same pace it's definitely amped up more but the NHL regular season game is amped up so much more in the playoffs because because they don't bang each other like they do in a regular season game. I mean, they play hard. They're a little physical and the skills are there.
Starting point is 00:22:05 But I'm talking the physicality of an NHL game in the playoffs is just skyrocketed. And that's what brings the best out of hockey. And I like how they kind of amp it up in the playoffs because if they did that all year long in the regular season, I don't think there would really be any guys left for the playoffs. Yeah. Well, they've been getting physical in NBA too. The reps haven't been calling it. Draymond's, you know, he's averaging two or three hard fouls.
Starting point is 00:22:31 I don't know. There's like a technical game through, I think. I don't know the different fouls. There's so many different types of fouls now. There's like an urgency foul, the this foul, that foul, the out of bounds foul, free break foul. But they've been playing hard, man. Celtics finally, you know, can hold off their 20-point lead in the third game.
Starting point is 00:22:54 I'm excited to see what they do. I think those first two games were just kind of a fluke, you know? It happens. You can't have too many flukes. No, you can't, but they're a team that knows how to pick it up. They've been down before in this situation, and they've been through the whole journey of the playoffs and winning it all, you know, which was last year.
Starting point is 00:23:15 So they know what it takes. And being down, you know, 2-0, there's five more games left. You just got to climb, you know. It's just crazy. One game at a time. It really is. know what I mean? Because those, they like kind of won those games, but just missed the shots. Like they were getting their, or taking kind of crazy shots too at the end. But then like when they,
Starting point is 00:23:34 when they're all making, like they blow them out. It's just the basketball is nuts right now. It's weird. It's nuts. It's nuts. Because 20 point games are like, you're still in it. And the physicality, though, that's what I really love. You did bring that up. I mean, the NBA playoffs have been really physical compared to other years, especially during the regular season. And it's fun to watch. And if the Celtics don't win it all this year, my second favorite team out there is Denver because of Yolkich.
Starting point is 00:24:02 You would be Yokic on the floor. Yes. You are Yokic. I love that comparison. That's what I see you on the field. That's near and dear. On the basketball, I can see you doing that. I love that player.
Starting point is 00:24:14 He's actually my favorite player in the NBA. Why do you think you're like Yokic on the floor? You love Yokich. Why? What makes you, what makes it like I see just big dude that, like the way he moves that's you yeah like but he's even bigger than me
Starting point is 00:24:31 but like we got similar movements also the way he looks he's kind of like you know I don't want to say this about him because I really love him and I would date him if I was a woman but he's kind of a uglier version of me but I would still date him
Starting point is 00:24:46 like if I was a hot chick and he's got like a big nose too and I got a big nose and just his personality as well He just wants to get it done. He don't care. He's an ugly version of me. Yeah. Well, that's what someone told me.
Starting point is 00:25:02 And I kind of was like, okay, I guess I agree. I didn't want to say that because I love him so much. Oh, my God. He's a lovable player, and he rides donkeys and shit. He plays, like, your dad at the YMCA when, like, you're in eighth grade. And he was in, like, his knees, braces and stuff. And he just didn't, like, didn't really move a lot, but always, scored.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Like, it's crazy. It's just nuts. And that's why I'm cheering for the Denver Nuggets if the Boston Celtics don't win it all. And then my third favorite team, just because he just has so much game and, like, swag, and he talks so much shit is the Minnesota. Timberwolves. Timberwolves with Anthony Edwards.
Starting point is 00:25:45 I just love how we projects himself with confidence and just the way he talks, backs it up. I mean, it's fun to watch. I became a fan. of Anthony Edwards after I saw the movie Hustle with Adam Sandler when he was like the guy that would talk shit to the the European dude in the one-on-one games like he's a fun player to watch the SGK kid man Oklahoma City they're fucking good he's from Montreal yeah I actually don't know much about Oklahoma City that's like a small market team that can be really good but like only that market sees them or a true NBA fan season play I have not seen an Oklahoma
Starting point is 00:26:24 City game in two years now with that player on the team, but only heard great things about him. Didn't we go to Oklahoma City game once? Yeah, about 15 years ago. With Welker. Yeah, with Welker. We sat right next to the bench. That's when we did a charity event.
Starting point is 00:26:40 Kevin Durant was on the team. Yeah, KD. Yeah, that was cool. That was a cool experience. That was my first NBA game. Yeah, I think it was mine too. It was. That was really cool.
Starting point is 00:26:50 That's what made me get obsessed with going courtside, and that's why we always started doing it when we went back to Boston. Yeah, Boston, they took care of us. They all took care of us, man. Shout out McKenzie. Yeah, shout out to the Celtics, always taking care of us, going to the playoff games, regular season games, just hooking us up with tickets.
Starting point is 00:27:08 We thank you making it easy on us. We thank you for that. It was easier to get Boston Celtics courtside tickets to the games than getting tickets to our own games. Now, like, when you're sitting courtside, do your big-ass size 18 feet ever get up? on that damn court and trip somebody. Oh, I'm always watching out for my feet.
Starting point is 00:27:27 I got to make sure that they're tucked away. I know, like, because I'm like a little ass dude, and I can feel those little ass chairs. I don't want to be responsible for us. Tripping one of them players. One of the balls came once when I was sitting there with my dad. And like, my dad, like, put his arm over. Like, we almost got in a car wreck.
Starting point is 00:27:42 I'm like, dad, I'm fucking 28 years old. He went like this. Like, I still got it, dad. Yeah, I catch footballs further. I can catch a damn basketball. Remember when your parents used to slam the brake and, you're in the front and they'd put their arm. My dad did that when a ball was coming to me at the Celtics game.
Starting point is 00:27:58 It's just natural reflexes. I guess it is. Father of love. Being a dad. Man, how about Merchie? Merchie hitting Marchy. All the game winner in overtime.
Starting point is 00:28:07 I know. Is he going to get his another one? They won it last year, didn't they? Yeah, the Panthers won it last year. Panthers are always sneaky good. Like, I don't hear anything of the Panthers ever until like the Stanley Cup. It's kind of like the same situation with Oklahoma City. Small Market team.
Starting point is 00:28:22 You know, Florida Panthers. don't really have a fan base either. I mean, not a traditional hockey town. Oklahoma is not a traditional basketball town, really. You kind of think football in those areas. Yeah, exactly. But, yeah, Marshaun with the game winner, they're down at what, 2-1 right now?
Starting point is 00:28:39 But if he didn't hit that game winner, they could possibly be down 3-0, which is kind of hard to come back in the series. But they're right in it now, 2-1, and he could possibly get a Stanley Cup with the Panthers. They're going for the repeat. But I kind of want to see. a Canadian team win it.
Starting point is 00:28:54 They haven't done it. I really want to see it. I love Connor McDavid. He's my favorite player right now in the NHL. His skills just surpass anyone else's. He's just a phenomenal athlete on the ice. And I'm just a big fan. And I'm hoping they pull it off.
Starting point is 00:29:09 And I do because I'm a Buffalo Sabres fan. That's my team at heart. So don't really care who truly wins, especially with the Celtics, not the Celtics with the Bruins. With the Bruins out right now. So I kind of want to go with a Canadian team that win.
Starting point is 00:29:23 just to see how bazonkers a Canadian city will go. 1,000% and Connor McDavid deserves one too. Are they, are they looking good? He was the MVP last year of the Stanley Cup and they lost. Yeah, I know that. I know that. That's crazy to me. Yeah, I would love that too.
Starting point is 00:29:39 Ever since we went to Vancouver, you know, I got a little. And then we had the Four Nations. I'm like in the Canada mode. The Four Nations brought hockey back. Brought hockey back. The Four Nations played like the N. HL playoffs. And that's why four nations was such a great turnout. And also because Trump was talking garbage about Canada and then Canada was facing the U.S. So everything hit at perfect timing.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Perfect timing. Which was great. I love that like that passion came came out of Canada for four nations. It brought that like tournament to a whole other level. Well they were, you know, so we went and did that speaking thing during that four nations in Canada. And like the Canadians are so nice, these people, but their way of talking, like, they had a little, like, jab by, like, they gave us a bunch of, like, Canadian gear. Like, here, you can wear our Canadian hockey stuff. Like, sorry. Sorry. I did, though. They had some nice gear. But, like, it was, like, a jab, but it was, like, a nice jab. It was, like, a gift basket full of, like, Canadian stuff. Like, look at this jersey we got to. It's Team Canada.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Sorry. I'm not your buddy, pal. I wore it. We'll be right back after this quick break. Here we go. Hey, I'm Cal Penn, and on my new podcast, Here We Go Again, we'll take today's trends and headlines and ask, why does history keep repeating itself? You may know me as the second hottest actor from the Harold and Kumar movies, but I'm also an author, a White House staffer,
Starting point is 00:31:11 and as of like 15 seconds ago, a podcast host. Along the way, I've made some friends who are experts in science, politics, and pop culture. And each week, one of them will be joining me to answer my burning questions. Like, are we heading towards another financial crash like in 08? Is non-monogamy back in style? And how come there's never a gate ready for your flight when it lands like two minutes early? We've got guests like Pete Buttigieg, Stacey Abrams, Lely Singh, and Bill Nye. When you start weaponizing outer space, things can potentially go really wrong.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Look, the world can seem pretty scary right now, because it is. But my goal here is for you to listen and feel a little better about the future. Listen and subscribe to Here We Go Again with Cal Penn on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The forces shaping the world's economies and financial markets can be hard to spot. Even though they are such a powerful player in finance, you wouldn't really know that you are interacting with them. And even harder to understand. Donald Trump's trade war, 2.0, is only. only accelerating the process of de-dollarization, which in a way is jargon for people turning away from the dollar.
Starting point is 00:32:26 That is where the big take from Bloomberg podcast comes in, to connect the dots. How unusual is a deal like this? Unprecedented. Every weekday afternoon, we dive deep into one big global business story. The biggest story of the reaction of the oil market to the conflict in the Middle East is one of what has not happened. Katie, you told me that ETFs are your favorite thing. They are. Explain that.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Why is that the case? And unpack what it means for you. Our breakfast foods are consistent consumer staples, and so they sort of become outsized indicators of inflation. Listen to the big take from Bloomberg News every weekday afternoon on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. For almost a decade, the murder of an 18-year-old girl.
Starting point is 00:33:23 from a small town in Graves County, Kentucky, went unsolved, until a local homemaker, a journalist, and a handful of girls, came forward with a story. I'm telling you, we know Quincy Kilder, we know. A story that law enforcement used to convict six people, and that got the citizen investigator on national TV. Through sheer persistence and nerve, this Kentucky housewife helped give justice to Jessica Curran.
Starting point is 00:33:53 My name is Maggie Freeling. I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, producer, and I wouldn't be here if the truth were that easy to find. I did not know her and I did not kill her, or rape or burn or any of that other stuff that y'all said. They literally made me say that I took a match and struck and threw it on her. They made me say that I poured gas on her. From Lava for Good, this is Graves County,
Starting point is 00:34:19 a show about just how far our legal. system will go in order to find someone to blame. America, y'all better work the hell up. Starting point is 00:35:03 people so much that my podcast called Playing Along is back. I sit down with musicians from all musical styles to play songs together in an intimate setting. Every episode's a little bit different, but it all involves music and conversation with some of my favorite musicians. Over the past two seasons, I've had special guests like Dave Grohl, Leveh, Rufus Wainwright, Remy Wolf, Mark Rebbya, Mavis Staples, really too many to name. And there's still so much more to come in this new season, including the powerful psychedelic duo Black Pumas, my old pal and longtime songwriting friend Jesse Harris and the legendary Lucinda Williams.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Listen to Nora Jones is playing along on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, let's jump into these dudes. Let's get this AI summary. Bum, bum, bum, the AI summary is back. Start the clock. All right, here we go. at six foot 212 pounds from
Starting point is 00:36:14 Yankton, South Dakota. He played 24 NFL seasons with the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. A product of South Dakota State, he went undrafted but earned a roster spot after time in NFL Europe. Known for his mental toughness
Starting point is 00:36:30 and accuracy under pressure, he became the NFL's all-time leading score with 2,673 points and 599 field goals made. He is also in the history books for the most postseason points, 238 and field goals, 56. He won four Super Bowls with the game-winning kicks in two of them. Plus, he was the hero in the famous Snow Bowl against the Oakland Raiders. Let's get on Adam Vinatari.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Adam Vinatari. I'll start with this. Adam Vinatari, I never met him. He was before my time. you know, with the New England Patriots, even though we played in the NFL together at the same time. But he was on the Colts, you know, his second half of his career. Heard many great things about him, knew about his history. Never got to meet him, though.
Starting point is 00:37:21 And then I'm doing the kick of destiny, you know, with Fanduel. It's a live, you know, commercial, and I'm kicking a field goal. And if I make it, we're giving out prizes. So obviously, I need a kicking coach. What did Fandle do? They went and got Adam Vintyri as my kicking coach. So I was really thrilled that I finally got to meet the legend Adam Vinatari because he was a patriot. I was a patriot.
Starting point is 00:37:45 So I thought this was going to be a really, really cool and special moment. And it lived up to expectations when I met him for the first time on the set. Man, he's such a cool dude. He's down the earth. If not, the best kicker in the NFL of all time. You know, he's up there, top one, two, or three. But it was just so cool to shoot a commercial with him. get some tips from him but he didn't you know give me enough tips because i missed my kick i'm about to say
Starting point is 00:38:12 maybe we shouldn't put coaching on this resume yeah so coaching holy schneesh coaching cross that off yeah sorry adam no is your coaching or else i would have made that kick no adam vintetary is also one of those legendary names that was talked about in the locker room past his time there i mean whether it was the training staff with Jimmy Whalen, Joe Van Allen. They always talk about Venetary. And you could see how much everyone loved Adam Venetary because of how clutch he was in the most important moments. And that's what Adam did. He made the biggest kicks in the Snow Bowl, in the first Super Bowl, another Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:38:53 There's countless other ones to get them to the Super Bowl. You know, and he's just a, he was a monster. And he's like jacked now. Have you seen him lately? He's jacked, bro. Dude, was he jacked on the set? Yes, that's all I was talking about to everyone. I'm like, how was Adam Vinatari so freaking jacked?
Starting point is 00:39:12 Like, I'm not even that jacked. And I was telling him in person, and I'm like, man, I admire, like, how jacked you are. And he was loving it. He was downpill and he was downpillar. He was like, no, I'm not as jacked as you, buddy. Like, check him out, man. Jesus Christ, Vinotary? Holy!
Starting point is 00:39:29 You would have never thought he was a kicker. No, the kickers, though, they, They get obsessed with things. Like Witherspoon was jacked. Remember from the, the Giants? Like, these guys, they're all little, like, they're all a little different in the head. But, you know, I was just around him last night at the wedding.
Starting point is 00:39:49 And, you know, he was, he was like a, he's a legend, man. He is. The most wild story about him, though, when I was talking to him. Because, you know, we were talking for a while on set. And he started telling me about his career. you know, before he got to the NFL, which was shocking to me. I think what? He told me he played an NFL Europe and Amsterdam.
Starting point is 00:40:12 Yeah. Correct. And that's where he got seen. But like a guy that is such a legend played 24 seasons in the NFL, the best kicker of all time. We got to say that, right? Yeah. He's the best kicker of all time. Yeah, he has to be.
Starting point is 00:40:29 You got to be. See, we're recent. See some. There could be some. Clutch situations. No, yeah. How automatic he was and also how many seasons he played. And he was good in all elements.
Starting point is 00:40:42 All elements. Snowy, sunny, rainy, cold, hot, cheerleaders in front of his face. No cheerleaders in front of his face. Bill yalling at him on a shitty Colts team, on a great New England team. He was still making kicks. He won a Super Bowl. the Colts too. Now, we gotta go back.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Wait, wait, wait. How about... He won a Super Bowl? Yeah, with the Colts? Peyton. Oh, oh, crap. Dang. Dang.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Yeah. When did he leave New England? I think, like, 2000, I want to say six. And then when did the Colts win the Super Bowl? 2005. Because Steve, yeah, they got Stephen 6. Then they went 07, C, and then they would,
Starting point is 00:41:30 they went 8, 9, 2006. Six. Mm-hmm. His first year, after they got rid of Vanderjack. Wow. Wow. Well, Jules, that kind of makes sense now on why you just went into the Patriots Hall of Fame before Adam Vinatari.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Because you're a patriot for life. You're Foxborough forever. You are only a patriot. Adam Vinotary, this kind of makes sense now. I think he played more years with the Indianapolis Colts that he did with the New England Patriots. And I would say that factors into it as well, you know, when it comes to voting. Because I was wondering, like, how he's not in already, which he should be in already. I thought I was hands down losing to Adam Venturi.
Starting point is 00:42:15 But that kind of makes sense now why you got in over him because he played more with the Colts, with a team that New England does not like. You know, so you've got to wait your turn now, buddy, because you played for the Colts too. Maybe he was a hell of a football player. But go, let's, how about his story, though? I love hearing the NFL Europe guys when they come. Like, I wish I got to go play in NFL Europe in my first few years to get to live in a European country, play American football. Amsterdam. They used to have it in Frankfurt and I think they had Barcelona teams and shit.
Starting point is 00:42:51 Like, that would have been kind of cool, even though you're not like big or anything, but you're still learning the game. Like, my first few years, I rather have done, like, maybe in like Amsterdam or you go to, I've never been to Europe. about that time of my life. That would have been fucking crazy. I don't think we would have made it out. No. Like Adam Vinatari made it out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:11 If it was you or I, we would still be in Amsterdam. Rock would still be in Poland. He would have been playing for the freaking Bratwurst or whatever. What do they have? The Poland Broughtwurst. The Polish sausages. I would have definitely never came back to American. I would have definitely never came back to American.
Starting point is 00:43:29 I'd play for Polish sausages. Oh. I'd be a perfect fit. I'd be a hero there in Poland. You want to know what's cool. I was in Poland last year and I swear no one knows me in Poland. It was, it looked like every other person.
Starting point is 00:43:43 Yeah, exactly. I loved it. I loved it. I wanted to go back because of that reason. No, no. Not everyone's tall. Mm-mm. So what are you?
Starting point is 00:43:52 It's a laid back European country. So a lot of these countries in Europe, you know, they're all different styles, you know, even though they're all one in Europe, but they all have their different, you know, it factor in. Poland is really, really laid back and more low-key. But beautiful, the nature, the grass, the woods.
Starting point is 00:44:12 I mean, it's the most beautiful settings I've ever seen in my life. And now it makes sense why I'm so beautiful now, too, Joel's. Yeah. And what was the food like? Yeah, food was phenomenal. I was eating gas station cheeseburgers left and right. Yeah. A plus grade.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Talking no antibiotics in those gas. Station cheese burgers. Brad phenomenal. I was eating on left and right. The mayonnaise, like different mayonnaise you would ever have here in the United States. Aoli, maybe. Yeah, unbelievable man. I'd just be pouring the mayonnaise on, man, on those burgers.
Starting point is 00:44:47 Oh, so good. Gas station burgers in Poland are the best. We got to go to a gas station in Poland. You do. As a burger guy, you have to. All right. Enough said. No progis.
Starting point is 00:44:59 You didn't have any progis? No, I did. But the gas station cheese burgers. wanting me over. You want to know what was cool was like Like there's this bus I was taking a piss in the gas station I pulled over taking a piss
Starting point is 00:45:11 And then this bus of like tourism came Because they were just checking out the whole country And like literally like 60 people got off the bus And I'm like usually like oh crap Like if I'm in the US I'm like I gotta get out of here All these people are gonna like you know Ask me for pictures
Starting point is 00:45:25 And literally all these people Just get out the bus Load up the whole gas station I'm like freaking out I'm like oh But then I'm like like, oh, wait, no one knows me here. And I was just in there with 60 people coming off of this bus,
Starting point is 00:45:38 just enjoying my cheeseburger and having all the freedom I needed in the world, man. So were you just going up and down the hallways, like enjoying it? Like, man, I can get some gum right now. I don't have any anxiety of people. Oh, maybe I get some chips. I'm going up to them and asking them questions. You were asking questions? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Just, you know, just for, barely. Well, so let me hear, how do you, how do you, Do you go Spanish? How do you do this? So if I'm someone in Poland, what were you saying? Like, hey, where's the gummy bears? Now, do you say gummy bearo or anything? Like, what do they sound like?
Starting point is 00:46:19 Uh, sure. That's a little too German. I'm not good at imitations. You are. Yeah, that's exactly how it's online. Like that, you know. Bursk. Bursk.
Starting point is 00:46:31 Mm-hmm. fucking Adam Venetary playing in Amsterdam gets us talking about Poland. What's the number one trait that you look for in a kicker that Adam Venetary had as well that made him special, Jules? What is it? Come on. Let's hear it. And then we get on to what kind of deal you is. For me, it's his swag. Really?
Starting point is 00:46:48 His swag. Yeah, like he always had a confidence. Every time Adam Venetary lined up for a kick and like his little antique guy, he like, he act like he act like he was there already. Like he was just clockwork. I remember he had the one, he had the single button. He always had the single chin strap. Like, he would go up there and he had a black cleat on. I always remember.
Starting point is 00:47:09 He had different cleats in the Super Bowl. And you just, you saw a swagger of confidence always. And that's what you want from your, but like a real confidence. I've met some kickers where they like think, oh, I remember I met some young kicker and he was bringing up Adam Venetier. I said, buddy, let's make a kick in the league before we even start bringing up Adam in a Terry's name. Jesus fucking Christ. Like, you know what I mean? Confidence.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Confidence. Confidence it is. That's what you want in a kicker. Like even with like, remember of a folk? And that's what Venetary had. Yeah. Remember folk? Like he was also just, he didn't, he didn't have the leg, crazy leg, but he's still kicking.
Starting point is 00:47:46 And what are you seeing like the, the, they're a calm, cool swagger that they have. Steve, he had that, they're like, they're just calm, cool. You don't hear them much, but you see them all the time because they make. big fucking plays. I like it. One more. Is Adam Vinutary the most clutch athlete of all time? Most clutch athlete.
Starting point is 00:48:09 Did he make all his game winning field goals? Basically. I think so. I mean, but can a kicker be considered the most clutch athlete of all time? I mean, it's such a hard question because they have to be clutch. So like, even if you're talking about most clutch athletes, you're basically banking on your kicker to being clutch. And if he's the greatest kicker of all time,
Starting point is 00:48:37 that means he's the most clutch of a clutch position. I mean, it could be argued. I mean, you got Michael Jordan, Tom Brady up in there. Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods. Adam Venetary? Joe Montana. Montana.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Time. Adam Venetari, we can say, is the most clutch kicker. of all times. Most clutch kicker of all time. There we go. I like that. Well, let's get on to it. What kind of dude is Adam Venetier? What kind of dude is he? Hmm. Man. Is he a stud? I mean, he had to go a long road. He did have to go to Europe before he came to the NFL, NFL Europe, undrafted guy, North Dakota kid, didn't get many offers.
Starting point is 00:49:23 So he doesn't have the stud pedigree. Is he a freak? I mean, I'm pretty sure he played quarterback in high school linebacker in high school he should play linebacker right now after he's seen that fucking picture and now he's done playing and he looks like an absolute physical freak of nature like with how jacked he is
Starting point is 00:49:43 so he could be a freak he could be a freak but it doesn't I don't when I see Adam but he's not a freak he's not a freak no he's not a dude's dude he could be a dude's dude because you know he I wasn't around him so but usually kickers
Starting point is 00:49:58 great kickers are dudes dudes and he's not a whiz because if he was a whiz he would have taught me all the mechanics I needed to make a kick and I missed my kick when he was my coach with the kick of Destiny so he's definitely not a whiz on three what is he one two three
Starting point is 00:50:14 dog oh oh but he's a stud he had to go long road he had to go to NFL Europe bro he had to go to NFL Europe he was undrafted he gets picked up
Starting point is 00:50:28 Like, that was an underdog story. And then he just so happened to play 24 fucking years in the NFL. Motivated too. You got to have that relentlessness too. See that goddamn beard? Dogs have that relentlessness in them. He, that guy's,
Starting point is 00:50:42 24 seasons. And then become a bodybuilder when he's done. And stud, I mean, he's magic in the air, Jules. The guy has made basically every clutch kick that ever existed in mankind's history
Starting point is 00:50:57 in the game of full. I mean, that's what studs do. What is a dog? They're physically and mentally tough, motivated guys that came from nothing. Guys like Adam Venetary that come from South Dakota, North Dakota. Who knows Dakota? But you're coming from a Dakota and you're kicking game when it field goals in the goddamn snow bowl. You convinced me.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Let's do it again. One, two, three, dog. Ruff, Ruff. Hoo, hoo! Oh, Adam Ho, Terry. Ho-hoo! All right.
Starting point is 00:51:33 On to our next. On to our next, Jules. What does AI have to say about our next guy? Born in 1982 in Kathy's Valley, California. This former NFL offensive guard is renowned for his toughness and consistency, standing six feet, four inches tall and weighing 308 pounds. He honed his skills at Fresno State, where he excelled as a left tackle and earned first team all whack honors in 2004.
Starting point is 00:52:00 The New England Patriots selected him 32nd overall in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft, transitioning him into left guard. He immediately became a starter, beginning a streak of 161 consecutive starts over 11 seasons with the Patriots and later the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Throughout his career, he was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and earned first team All Pro Honors in 2010. Despite playing in two Super Bowls, he never secured a championship ring.
Starting point is 00:52:33 After retiring, he became a cattle farmer in Massachusetts. Let's get on Logan Mankens. Logan, Mankins. Logan, I love you Mankins. Logan, sweetheart Mankins. Logan, nice teddy bear Mankins. Logan, rip your fucking face off. Mankins.
Starting point is 00:52:56 just what is it when a dog just scratches crap out of you until you just bleed Mankins. Yeah, that one. That one works too. Speaking of scratching, he has the largest mitts. Have you remember his hands? That's where I was getting after, Jules. Remember when you shake Logan's hand? I remember I shook Logan's hand for the first time and his hand went up to my fucking forearm. I mean, it's crazy. What's the first thing you think of when you hear Logan Makin's
Starting point is 00:53:25 besides all those middle names that we just gave them. I think of his wife, Cara. Okay, can you explain more, please? Because she always cooked for us. I used to go to Logan's house. Thank you for clarifying that one, Joseph. Well, they were like, he was like the big brother to all like the slap dicks of the team. If you didn't have your family at the, you know, for like Thanksgiving or Christmas or anytime we had like a holiday.
Starting point is 00:53:55 the Mankans and Kara, she'd always invite everyone on, the younger guys over and they would cook for us. They're just like unbelievable people. But getting back to Logan, like his tenacity is, you know, I was making a joke thing about Kara
Starting point is 00:54:13 because she'd probably beat me up if I didn't say her name. But, um, yeah, his tenacious. She's still going to beat you up. Yeah, she's probably going to. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:20 Logan is going to too. No, Logan will just laugh at her beating me up. I want him to. Logan is the nicest guy ever. He would laugh at that. He would laugh at her beating me up. He'd like, that's Kara. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:31 No, but his tenacity. Oh, that's a big word. Yeah, he's tenacious. Tenacious D. Like, Black. Jack Black, right? Does he have tenation in him too? He's got tenation in him.
Starting point is 00:54:45 Tenacity, tenacist, tenation. He got whatever that is. He's got it. He's got it all. He just, I just, when he would go, in play, like, you felt safe with him. Like, anytime there was a fight, I remember around the piles and stuff,
Starting point is 00:55:03 there's a fight going on one of these times around the pile. And I remember I got pulled by someone. I was like, oh, who is it? And you know, like, your dad pulls you back? Mm-hmm. It was Logan. He, like, pulled me to safety.
Starting point is 00:55:14 Oh, man, thank God. Shit! And then he went back in there and started beat. I think he got ejected that game or something. Well, how do you describe that type of strength? What is it that he has? Strength? Country strong.
Starting point is 00:55:27 There you go. What else? Farmer strong. There you go. Those are about three adjectives right there to describe his strength, you know, pretty right on. Well, he's a, you know what? I love having Logan Mankens because he's a California kid.
Starting point is 00:55:42 And people think he's like some like Midwest guy or some South guy. Nah, he's a cattle rancher from fucking Fresno, East California. He's a California. football player just to show everyone we ain't just surfer dudes and shit. Oh, like you? Cattle Ranchers too, dog. Yeah, surfers dudes. Yeah, that's what everyone thinks.
Starting point is 00:56:04 Like, if you're from California, you're a surfer dude. Yeah, he actually represents football players in the state of California. He's, you know he was all state basketball, I think? He was an all state basketball player. And did you actually, I never seen him shoot? Me neither. But did you know this fun fact as well? Because we already talking about him earlier on the show, Derek Carr, he black for him
Starting point is 00:56:24 at Fresno State. He's his brother Derek. Oh, he blocked for his brother. David. Oh, he blocked for David Carr. For Houston. All right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:56:31 Okay. I thought it was Derek for some reason. All right, but it was David Carr. I get them confused, you know, because they both went to, you know, Fresno State. They both are first round, you know, quarterback. So that was just a cool fun fact that I was bringing up. What do you got any Logan stories? You know, Jews, I don't really have any Logan making stories off top of my head.
Starting point is 00:56:53 I mean, besides the, obvious just how good of a football player he was just the you know farmer strength that he had that he brought to the table his leadership how you felt safe around him but logan mankins always has a story about me whenever i'm around him i just never have a story about him so i actually wish logan mankins was here right now so he could tell a story about me and we can hear from logan you know ourselves but one cool story i do have is after well this is you know this is you is actually, I'm going to tell the good story first and then the sad story after, is that the cool story was is that after every game, home game, he'd be out in the parking lot,
Starting point is 00:57:35 just sitting there sipping a beer. In the players parking lot. And the players parking lot. Drinking beers. And I just thought it was so cool after a one o'clock game. It's 4.35 o'clock and I'm going out to my car and I just pop open a beer with Logan Minkins. And I just felt like a man.
Starting point is 00:57:54 Man, you're right. I just felt cool. You know, just sitting there having one beer, just sit there for 10 minutes, have a conversation about life, you know, possibly, you know, what happened in the game. Drink the beer and then just go along with my day after the game and my night and go home. And then I always remember that, you know, because I always started that always started my night, you know. That was the pregame was in the, the pregame was in the, the. Parking law with Logan? That was the pregame, pregame, pregame.
Starting point is 00:58:27 So Logan always kicked off the pregame, pregame, pregame when I was like 22 years old. And he was always so welcoming. Always. You know, as a veteran and this guy that I looked up to, I mean, not many players are like, oh, young buck come and hang out. You know, he was such a good guy and so lovable. They'd come hang out, grunk, you know, and he just make you feel so welcome. And then the sad story about him is I still remember to this day when he got traded
Starting point is 00:58:52 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And like when that happened, it was one of the most shocking things I've ever seen happen in the NFL. And that's when I learned that the NFL is a business. And not just a business can be a dirty business as well because Logan Makins was on that pedestal of he's the greatest, one of the greatest, you know, guards to play for New England Pages. Everyone looked up to him. Great guy, family man, doesn't do anything wrong, works his butt off. you know, we'll kill a guy out there on the field for you. Doesn't miss games.
Starting point is 00:59:27 He played every single game, which is just tenacious, like you said. Tenasses. Yeah. And then he got traded. And I saw those tears in his eyes when he got traded. And it, you know, brought tears to my eyes. And it made me feel really weird that day at practice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:45 That, you know, this is truly a business. That was, I think everyone remembers that practice. I mean, we had, remember, we, we, we had, we, we had. all came up after. We did. And it was like, holy shit, we just got rid of our best linemen. Yeah, everyone came together, you know, everyone did. You know, it wasn't like, you know, some slap dick getting traded.
Starting point is 01:00:05 Everyone was like, you all glad he got traded. No, this was like, we lost one of our guys. Yeah, we did. This was probably very similar to the lawyer Malloy trade. We lost a locker room presence that everyone looked up to, you know. We lost a leader and everyone felt it when. that trade went down. But I agree with you.
Starting point is 01:00:24 That was one of the first moments that in the Randy Moss trade where you're like, this is a business. Those were like two trades that you're like, oh shit. This is this football shit. This is real. You know, when we said he didn't miss a game, he played with a torn ACL all year. I think, or he toured in like the last like, I remember what was that season? I think it was a year.
Starting point is 01:00:50 He played the entire 2011 season. with a torn ACL. The guy was, he would wake up at 5 a.m. Before the snows, shovel his fucking whole coltisack and like plow his coltisack and then come into work with a torn ACL
Starting point is 01:01:09 and then go perform like nothing's wrong. He wore the same thing every day. The Carhart jacket, his fucking Carhart hat, jeans, his work boots. He's just a fucking man. Mm-hmm. He's honestly, I think, I think he could be from the lineage of Chuck Norris.
Starting point is 01:01:31 I think he's got Chuck Norris in his blood. He does. He does. I like that comparison right there. He really, really might have Chuck Norris's bloodline. Who else is in Chuck Norris's bloodline? From the Patriots area? Yeah, he's got a little Chuck Norris in him.
Starting point is 01:01:51 Um, that lineman, that was, uh, not a UFC fighter, but he was a wrestler. O'Neil. Oh, Steve and O'Neill. Steve Neal. Oh, that guy was a savage, man. Yeah. Dude, I remember he was a dog. Remember he didn't have shoulders for like two years?
Starting point is 01:02:06 Like he literally like, we, I remember watching in the pregame. The trainers would have to like zip his shoulders in and like he couldn't use them. And like he didn't have an Emmy. He didn't fuck up one play. He could barely move his shoulders. He'd just go drink a four local after the game and get wild. It's amazing how these offensive alignment can have so many injuries and they play in these games and play the whole year. And you don't even know that they have these injuries as well.
Starting point is 01:02:34 I mean, you know how hard it is for a skill player to play through an injury because you're just trying to drive so much force and you've got to run at such a speed. I mean, it's really hard to do that as a skill player. But it's a little bit easier as an offense alignment because You don't have to have that speed. Yeah, but there's a lot of stress. There is. But it's just incredible that they still do it. Without a doubt.
Starting point is 01:03:02 Like it's, you know how much they got to be compensating like a muscle group? Like you have a blown out knee or blown out shoulder and you're just compensating your whole body to develop that force that you need to block the guy in front of you. It's amazing just how smart they are as players to be able to do that, especially a guy like Logan Mankins or even Steve O'Neill's situation talking about he didn't even have shoulders and he was going out there and just
Starting point is 01:03:27 blocking fools left and right. I remember there was those rumors that we were going to trade him, trade for him back, remember? I wish that happened. I know me too. I wish we got to have Manx. That was the craziest thing, man. We had some really good linemen and he was at the top of some of those.
Starting point is 01:03:47 Who would you say is on the Patriots, Rushmore? Mount Rushmore. Offense alignments. Mount Rushmore, Offens alignment for the New England Pays. It's tough because I, that'd be tough for me to call
Starting point is 01:03:58 because we didn't, I didn't know the guys before us. Well, just put two at the top right now that are, that I guarantee. Matt Light and Logan Makins. I mean,
Starting point is 01:04:06 you could, yeah, I would say those two are from who I played with. Mm-hmm. Man, time. What kind of dude is Logan Mankins?
Starting point is 01:04:17 Now, I mean, he, he's a stud. Anytime you're coming from Fresno State in the whack, first team all state, and then get drafted in the first round the National Football League as a tackle,
Starting point is 01:04:28 transferred to guard, played a bunch of tackle when we needed them to. We used to do that with Logan, remember that? Like kind of what they did with Tooney and the Chiefs this year. You could say that he's a stud. You could say that he's a dog. But I'm thinking, though...
Starting point is 01:04:43 He's a dude's as well. Yeah, definitely a dude's dude. And he's a whiz. He's basically everything. He's every category here. We got to stamp him as one. And on three, one, two, three, freak. And because he's all of them, he's a fucking freak. I mean, you play on a torn ACL, and it wasn't like he was just sitting there.
Starting point is 01:05:02 This guy was like our pulling guard. He was running. All right. So he's never missed a game due to an injury, even though he's been disabled while playing. That's freaky. That's some freaky stuff right there. That's freaky. And just how strong he is.
Starting point is 01:05:19 he's a country freak, Joel. He's country strong. He is the definition of corn fed strong. Like big ass hands, freaking Wolverine healing abilities. First team, all state and basketball, never seen him shoot a basketball,
Starting point is 01:05:39 but it's in California, so there's fucking good basketball. Like, I mean, Jesus Christ, Logan is, and he's got Chuck Norris lineage. He's a, I think he's got Chuck Norris blood. Shout out, which one is he?
Starting point is 01:05:54 Case? Let me see him. Look at fucking Cates. Holy fuck. Case Mankans. Defense of Ed. He's how big he is. I remember there's a couple little boys.
Starting point is 01:06:04 There's a couple girls. Those little boys were, they used to beat the shit out of each other. I'm talking, I would sit there at Thanksgiving watching those boys, fight. We'd have game on. I just watched these guys. They were slugging each other. I'm like, damn, they're going to be tough. And that's why he's a fucking freak.
Starting point is 01:06:24 He is a freak. He's a freak of a dad. Kaylee played softball Bentley, yeah. I remember she was really good. He has a freak of a family. This guy's just a freak overall. He's a freak, man. He is.
Starting point is 01:06:35 Love him. And, Jules, before we get going, I got a question to ask you. What was the best dish that you ever had at a lineman Thanksgiving? Whoa. And now this is going to be very hard because Dan Conn, This was like a potluck Everyone would bring shit Dan Conley used to make things from scratch
Starting point is 01:06:54 This guy made homemade marshmallows For the fucking hot chocolate Homemade hot chocolate He made a homemade marshmallow Once And they were spectacular It was the best fucking hot chocolate
Starting point is 01:07:06 And marshmallow I ever had it was after the turkey dinner Around the campfire Of course Well you know Lime and drink beer I was drinking hot cocoa with the kids I'd have to say
Starting point is 01:07:18 he made some kid, Dan Conley used to make some really good stuffing. I think his brother is a chef and now he, he made beer. He made the beer we were drinking. He had a gastro pub in the fucking,
Starting point is 01:07:29 in the garage. I mean, it's crazy. I would say Dan Conley, anything he made, spectacular. He did every style turkey. He would fry one, smoke one,
Starting point is 01:07:41 bake one, barbecue one. This guy was Betsy fucking crockery on there. So I'm going, with that stuff in. Well, you better watch out the Mancans might be coming for you. Well, the Mancans, they always had good shit too. Nope, but you didn't rank it as the best.
Starting point is 01:07:57 I can't, I'm going Dan over the Mancans, I think. You better watch your back to us. I know, Car might be going to ask. We'll be right back after this quick break. Here we go. Hey, I'm Cal Penn, and on my new podcast, Here We Go again. We'll take
Starting point is 01:08:12 today's trends and headlines and ask, why does history keep repeating itself? You may know me as the second hottest actor from the Harold and Kumar movies, but I'm also an author, a White House staffer, and as of like 15 seconds ago, a podcast host. Along the way, I've made some friends who are experts in science, politics, and pop culture. And each week, one of them will be joining me to answer my burning questions. Like, are we heading towards another financial crash like in 08? Is non-monogamy back in style? And how come there's never a gate ready for
Starting point is 01:08:45 your flight when it lands like two minutes early? We've got guests like Pete Buttigieg, Stacey Abrams, Lili Singh, and Bill Nye. When you start weaponizing outer space, things can potentially go really wrong. Look, the world can seem pretty scary right now, because it is.
Starting point is 01:09:26 And even harder to understand. Donald Trump's trade war, 2.0, is only accelerating the process of de-dollarization, which in a way is jargon for people turning away from the dollar. That is where the big take from Bloomberg podcast comes in to connect the dots. How unusual is a deal like this? Unprecedented. Every weekday afternoon, we dive deep into one big global business story. The biggest story of the reaction of the oil market to the conflict in the Middle East is one of what has not happened.
Starting point is 01:09:58 Katie, you told me that ETFs are your favorite thing. They are. Explain that. Why is that the case? And unpack what it means for you. Our breakfast foods are consistent consumer staples, and so they sort of become outsized indicators of inflation. Listen to the big take from Bloomberg News every weekday afternoon on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. For almost a decade, the murder of an 18-year-old girl from a small town in Graves County, Kentucky, went unsolved, until a local homemaker, a journalist, and a handful of girls came forward with a story.
Starting point is 01:10:47 I'm telling you, we know Quincy Kilder, we know. A story that law enforcement used to convict six people, and that got the citizen investigator on national TV. Through sheer persistence and nerve, this Kentucky housewife helped give justice to Jessica Curran. My name is Maggie Freeling. I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, producer, and I wouldn't be here if the truth were that easy to find.
Starting point is 01:11:16 I didn't know her, did not kill her, or rape or burn or any of that other stuff that y'all said. They literally made me say that I took a match and struck and threw it on her. They made me say that I poured gas on her. From Lava for Good, this is Graves County, a show about just how far our legal system will go in order to find someone to blame. America, y'all better work the hell up. Bad things happens to good people in small towns. Listen to Graves County in the Bone Valley feed on the Iheart Radio app,

I sit down with musicians from all musical styles to play songs together in an intimate setting. Every episode's a little bit.
Starting point is 01:12:28 little bit different, but it all involves music and conversation with some of my favorite musicians. Over the past two seasons, I've had special guests like Dave Grohl, Leveh, Rufus Weymrite, Remy Wolf, Mark Reb-A, Mavis Staples, really too many to name. And there's still so much more to come in this new season, including the powerful psychedelic duo Black Pumas, my old pal and longtime songwriting friend Jesse Harris and legendary Lucinda Williams. Lison and Nora Jones is playing along on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's get into the Chilisdue the week brought to you by our favorite beer.
Starting point is 01:13:15 Coors Light get Coors Light delivered straight to your door. Visit Coorslight.com slash dudes and celebrate responsibly. Let's crack one, boys. Jules, give me a toss. Oh. Oh. Touchdown. And for this week's chillest dude of the week, we're going to put ourselves in some
Starting point is 01:13:38 other dude's shoes. Oh, yeah. Mm-hmm. We're switching it up. That's right. It's time for another edition of soul-searching. Soul-searching. All right.
Starting point is 01:13:49 I'm going skiing on those blue mountains one day. Actually, tubing, I prefer. Skiing would be tough. You got to be a pro to, you know, ski those mountains. That is a pretty... That's a jagged mountain. Anyone can tube down the any mountain. You got to pick your line, buddy.
Starting point is 01:14:03 I'm not going to be alive when I'm done. What mountain is that? I wonder what mountain they use. The mountain range. and John Nacour's kind? Or is this a fucking computer-generated one? That's got to be a real Colorado Rocky. What tip is that?
Starting point is 01:14:17 What's that mount? Wilson Peak. Wilson! Castaway? Great movie. All right. If you were Cam Ward and you got drafted,
Starting point is 01:14:30 number one overall, to the Tennessee Titans, what would you do? Well, first off, isn't he wearing the number one? which was Warren Moon's number, right? Yeah. And was that number retired and Warren Moon gave him permission to wear it?
Starting point is 01:14:50 I think that's the case. Well, first off, I would want to make Warren Moon proud of him for letting him wear number one. That's a dude's dude move right there. I would watch old Warren Moon highlights. Right off the bat. Just Warren Moon. Just Warren Moon because I'm wearing his number.
Starting point is 01:15:12 It's retired. I watch all his highlights. And the very first touchdown that I throw or score rushing, I would do the most signature Warren Moon touchdown celebration dance or whatever it was. Got to hit the YouTube archives for that one. Yep. So that's what I would do if I was Cammore. If you were, if I was, I'd probably just buy an F-150, maybe a Stenson cowboy hat. and some boots and, you know, do the whole Nashville thing.
Starting point is 01:15:41 It's pretty country. But I wouldn't want to hang out on Broadway too much, Jules. It might be too Nashville. I've never been to Nashville. It's a great city. I've heard it's a fun city. It's popping. Popping.
Starting point is 01:15:54 I can tell you this, Jules, don't go there. You graduated. All right, I graduated. You graduated from Vegas. You graduated from Miami. You don't need to go to Nashville now, brother. Do I go now? Bitha?
Starting point is 01:16:07 No, you go to a... A visa. If you're going to a visa, bring me, actually. You see, you're allowed out of a visa if you bring me. But you need to go to a beach. A beach is. Yeah, with an ocean. Far away from Broadway.
Starting point is 01:16:22 Oh, if you go, call me. All right. If you were Pope Leo the 14th, what would you do, Jules? Pope Leo the 14th, believe he is. A Bears fan? The Bears fan? Yeah, he's from Chicago. He's from Chicago.
Starting point is 01:16:43 Chicago. He's from Poccago. Poccago. Poccago. He's a White Sox fan. Man, what would I do with the... He went to Villanova. Went to Villanova.
Starting point is 01:16:55 Shout out of Howie Long. Oh, Ross Ventron. Ross Ventron. Ross Ventron. Bobba Vintron. Yes. The whole Vintron's. What would I do?
Starting point is 01:17:06 I would probably If I was the Pope I'd probably give I would give Billy O'Brien a call for all that Because I remember once I asked Since Boston College Is a Catholic university
Starting point is 01:17:23 How come the Pope Isn't sending Billy O'Brien NIL money Shouldn't there be a fun And Billy O'Brien deserves it Yeah Great coach trying to I think there should be a feeder to the Catholic schools,
Starting point is 01:17:43 Notre Dame, Boston College, a few others that I don't know. But there's got to be some kind of, I mean, there's a lot of money in that Roman Catholic Church. And we've all seen Conclave and we've seen the Da Vinci Code. We know there's money to be spent. So maybe throw it out to get BC. I'd call Billy O'Brien, maybe say, hey, buddy. I like that. He's a sports fan.
Starting point is 01:18:07 The Pope is a sports fan. It's the first American Pope. I like the idea. I like that situation. If I was the Pope, I would pray. And I would pray for Caleb Williams. Yep. That's pretty good.
Starting point is 01:18:28 And then I would pray again. I want to just pray for Calib Williams. I pray for the various organization. Do you think the Pope? this pope right here has already said a prayer for the Chicago Bears. And I mean, he's probably, you know, giving out a couple prayers ever since he got the call. Definitely the White Sox. Definitely.
Starting point is 01:18:53 He's been seen out of the World Series before. What year was that? Long ago. 2005? 2005? Almost 20 years ago. This guy's a fool fan. This guy's a legend.
Starting point is 01:19:06 Did they win the game? Did they win that game? for the white socks. Did they win the game? Because maybe they should, maybe, maybe the Chicago Bears, if the Pope's at the game, the Bears are going to win.
Starting point is 01:19:22 Oh, it looks like they won that game. Game one, World Series. Oh, they swept the series after he went. So if I'm the Chicago Bears, I'm calling the Pope. I'm saying, hey, yo, we got, we got the Pope Mobile. We got the Pote Mobile. You know, he has a special car with, like, the thing.
Starting point is 01:19:41 They have a Pote Mobile. You never seen it? No. I never seen the Pote Mobile. Give me the Pote Mobile. It's fucking crazy. I saw it at a museum once. Look at the Pote Mobile.
Starting point is 01:19:50 Now they went. That's the Pote Mobile, bro. How sweet is that? Oh, it is sweet. He can't get shot or anything. The Pult Mobile's cruising. And you see what's driving them. That's American Made right there, buddy.
Starting point is 01:20:04 That's a Jeep. That's Chrysler. One of the big threes. There's also. Mercedes one. It's made so you can still, you can just wait to everyone while you're cruising in the Popemobile. Do you think because he's an American Pope that like he'll have a Tesla Pope mobile now? I'm not sure, Jules. What would the Grancmobile look like? Well, there was already a grankmobile, Jules. It was the party bus that I used to have. And there was a pole in the middle.
Starting point is 01:20:28 There was loud speakers and we just shoved a lot of people in it. As many people as possible. I remember you got that thing. The Grankmobile. And you wrapped it and it had like a, what did it have on the side of it. A body armor. Yeah, it had a body armor with you on it though, right? Uh, no, no, I wasn't. The Gronk mobile? Oh my God, I remember we took that thing once to Red Sox game and people saw Gronk was in there and they were shaking it like he was the goddamn Pope. They were shaking it like, oh, Grogh. A couple bras came up. It was nuts. A couple. Dozens. Now, there it is. Wasn't appropriate. What do you think the Sunday ticket? situation is at the Vatican.
Starting point is 01:21:12 So if I'm the Pope, honestly, the Sunday ticket doesn't work anywhere but the United States. It's fucking bullshit because I try to use my goddamn YouTube TV in Canada and it wouldn't work. So, I mean, you know the Pope's probably got a line
Starting point is 01:21:25 to the NFL. Dude, they got the best everything. Like, I want to go, if I, I want to go and, like, see, like, the president cool shit is like, you know, you go like the back, like, you press a button and go behind walls and shit.
Starting point is 01:21:40 Like, that's all, like, kindergarten compared to the Pope. Like, the Pope has, like, crazy shit where, like, it looks like Star Wars probably. You go down, you press a button, and you go down an elevator that goes, like, 30 floors into the Earth. And then there's, like, giant fucking buildings underground
Starting point is 01:21:58 that the Pope is fucking doing. Like, the Pope's got some crazy shit. Well, if I was the Pope, I'd move church to Saturdays so we can watch guilt-free football. on Sundays. That's good. It's a good one right there.
Starting point is 01:22:15 That's why I'm not the Pope. Well, that was the chillest dude of the week. Thanks to our favorite beer at CoorsLight. Get CoorsLight delivered straight to your door. Visit CoorsLight.com slash dudes and celebrate responsibly.
