Before we get into this amazing episode of the empty-kniters podcast with NHL All-Star Bobby Ryan,
we got to talk about the best can cocktail in the business.
It's a long holiday weekend here, and you know that we've been sipping on that etcho tequila soda.
This is without question, the best can cocktail going in the business right now.
Tell me why, Chris.
Dan, carbs, goose egg, gluten, goose egg, sugar, goose egg, calories.
No, I'm just kidding.
That would be sick, though.
96 calories, though, pretty awesome.
under 100, 100% blue agave tequila.
It's about as low as it gets. It's made right down there in Mexico.
This stuff is unbelievable.
If you're a tequila drinker, this is your new favorite drink.
If you've never really been sure about tequila, this is going to make you get over that hump
and give it a try because it is as good as it gets.
This tastes like an actual cocktail that you would get at the best bar in your favorite city,
wherever it is, and it's right there in a can that's going to be in your fridge waiting
for you whenever you want to drink it.
There is no other option when it comes to canned cocktails.
Echo tequila soda is where it's out.
And where it needs to be is in your home.
So what you're going to do is you're going to go to sip etcho.com.
That's S-I-P-H-E-C-H-O.com.
And you're going to go to the store locator.
It's going to make it real simple for you.
You're going to find the closest store that has ECHO in it
so you can just drive right there and stock up.
But, oh my God, Dan, what if there's not a store near me?
Fret not, my friend.
Fret not.
Because what you're going to do is pump in that promo code,
Netters.
That's N-E-T-T-E-R-S at checkout.
you're going to save yourself a nice discount, and that ECHO is going to be delivered right to your door.
You know how I know that? Because I do it all the time. And we had a really great experience this weekend.
There's NFL playoffs on this weekend. We watched a little bit of NFL. We had the boys over. Everyone was sitting around. And I'll tell you what, everyone reached into our fridge, which is stocked with ECHO tequila soda and started and started grabbing other seltzers. And then everyone said, what's that? And I said, oh, just give it a shot. Literally, fridge wiped out by the end of playoffs.
Completely wet. I wouldn't know, though, because I wasn't invited. You were not invited. I'm very sorry.
Sorry, Emily.
We don't really have an excuse for that one.
But it is the go-to drink.
That's why everyone's snagging it.
It's perfect for NHL season, NFL season, playoffs, All-Star weekend, whatever it is, because nothing beats it.
So get on the ECHO train.
And now let's get into that episode.
We've got an amazing episode of the MTV Nader's podcast going today.
We are joined by Bobby Ryan, former Anaheim Duck, Ottawa Senator, Detroit Redwing, former NHL All-Star, Olympic, Silver Medalist.
guy is a beauty. He's down in Nashville right now, just working on his golf game, being one of the best
dudes you'll ever meet. Fantastic episode with Bobby. We can't wait to get into it. But before we do,
we're just going to rip off some quick little NHL news. Just some quick stuff. I love it.
Let's get into hottest teams of the week. Okay. We got to let the people know who was ripping
up the NHL right now like we did last week. We're mixing up hottest team of the week. We're going to
just tell you during midweek what it's as hot as because you guys need to know for reference.
It's important.
It's important to know what's going on in pop culture and what's going on in the world.
And the best way to do that is compared to the hot teams in the NHL.
There you go.
Who's the third team of the week?
I'm going to start this week.
The third team, third hottest team of the week is the Edmonton Oilers.
They had a big West Coast week, Dan.
They started off by losing to the Kings, actually.
It's a little bit of a rocky start.
But since then they've won three straight, they beat the duck six two.
They pummeled the shark seven one.
And then they held off Vegas 4-3.
So the third hottest team, they're still a 500 team and they need to pick it up a little bit.
Yeah.
To be honest, but they are getting it done lately.
I mean, they legitimately might miss the playoffs.
It's fascinating.
I feel like we talked about a while ago.
I mean, everyone got so confused by the clip we put on the internet of saying that
Mick David's not the MVP.
That's not what we were saying.
We were saying, I'm not sure if it is a lock because the Oilers might miss the fucking
playoffs.
And frankly, dude, it is a lock.
To all the haters, you're right, it is a lock.
He's going to win it.
Yeah, he's going to have 160 points.
Like we said, he's the best player in the league.
But it is crazy.
And they got plenty of time to make the playoffs.
But it is crazy if he scores 160 points and they miss the playoffs.
Absolutely.
grow up.
Second hottest team of the week is the New Jersey Devils.
We talked about how these guys were kind of falling behind the hurricanes, by the way.
Shout out Hurricanes, just still top of the Met.
Hot, hot, hot.
But the devils are right in their heels.
They had a 3-0 week.
They're on a four-game heater, beat the rags in OT, beat the Canes, 5-3.
So they're sniffing.
They're getting up there.
Huge win for them.
And they're on their West Coast swing, and they're currently dominating, beating the duck,
six-two, the Kings 5-2, and they're looking to complete that sweep against the sharks tonight on Monday.
I like their chances.
I like their chances, too.
they're a hot team.
Love it.
Devil's hot.
I get it.
Can I guess you're number one?
Yeah.
What if it's wrong?
That's okay.
That'll be good content.
But this is you're getting involved here.
Well, I'm going to pick one.
If this is not yours, it's fine.
Okay.
Emily's hottest team.
I actually love this.
We have to add this to hottest team.
You want to go, yeah, actually,
this is the new graphic.
We'll have your hottest team of the week.
Before we tease our hottest team of the week,
who is your hottest team of week?
I'm going to go with the cracking.
Bang, that is ours.
That's our hottest team of the week.
Why do you think they're hot, Em?
they are on an eight game winning streak
and apparently they have
this is NHL history
their first team in the NHL
to sweep a road trip of at least
seven games
wow that is a six stat I didn't even know that
look at producer M coming in with NHL stats
I also have some hot ice too
oh my god well let me just pile on with you real quick
yeah no please please the crackin were two
our two hottest second hottest team last week
and they jumped up to the top spot because as Emily
said eight in a row is a real deal.
They beat the habs for nothing.
Beat your sabers, Dan, four, three, I'm sorry to say.
They gave the Bruins their first home regulation loss of the season.
3-0.
That has not proven easy at all.
And then standard in this segment, they had their beer league win, 8-5 against the Hawks,
which is always nice to see.
The Cracken might win the Pacific.
Like, that is no joke.
Like, they're literally right behind Vegas, and they might win the Pacific.
Yeah, they truly, truly like.
As Dan would say, they are a wagon.
They are a wagon.
All right, Em, what's your hot ice?
Okay, well, one of these is sad.
Actually, two of them are both sad.
Sad ice.
Sad ice.
A former NHL player passed away yesterday.
Gino O'Jick.
Did you know that?
Yes.
Always terrible when we lose a member of the NHL.
And the Vegas Vegas Golden Knights goalie.
The vegan Golden Knights.
Did I just say vegan?
Did I just say vegan?
You started to.
Their goalie,
files for bankruptcy.
Logan Thompson?
Robin Leonard.
Oh, yeah.
That is sad.
So sorry, Robin Leonard.
Yeah, we do want to throw out, sorry.
It's always tough, but hopefully he's working through it.
Robin is a resilient, resilient guy.
So throwing out some good vibes.
And a good hockey player.
Yeah.
We can figure this out.
Good vibes to Lanner, for sure.
That's all.
That's good, hot ice.
That was really good, Em.
That was great.
Depressing ice.
Depressing ice.
All right, well, those are our three hottest teams of the week,
M's hottest team of the week, and some hot sad ice from Emily as well.
which is beautiful stuff.
All right, let's jump into this Bobby Ryan.
Let's kick into something, not sad at all.
Not sad at all is this interview with Bobby Ryan, who's a complete beauty,
how to blast with him.
Can't wait for you.
Number two overall pick in the 2005 draft number one in our hearts right now.
Oh, yeah, that's true.
We are joined today very happily by an NHL All-Star,
number two overall pick, Olympic silver medalist, Bobby Ryan.
Welcome to the MT Dadders podcast.
What's going on, bud?
Well, we had to just grind through some technical difficulties,
but I'm glad I'm here.
I'm glad it only took us an extra 20 minutes
but we got it done.
So thank you're having me.
Got it done.
Yeah. Had to sneak it into
because you're off getting your junior team number
retired this week, eh?
Yeah, yeah.
It's, I guess the announcement is supposed to be Saturday,
but I was told ahead of time.
So they're not retiring it.
They're just going to make the announcement
and then I'll get to go back up with the kids
and everything next time.
So I'm pumped.
It was, you never know, right?
If it's going to happen or not.
But yeah, they kind of
kind of dropped the news on me.
So I'm stoked.
I'm stoked to go back.
I'm stoked to see it go up in the rafters.
It's going to be fun.
I was going to say,
anytime something gets pulled up into the rafters,
that's a nice little tire pump for you,
for sure.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
So I haven't been back nearly enough since I,
I mean, it's not a hard,
but it's not an easy place to get to.
You land in Toronto,
then you've got to, you know,
drive pretty far out there.
But Owen sounds out there a little bit,
but I haven't been back nearly enough,
so I'm going to go spend some time
with my billets this week and everything.
It's going to be a,
and then it kind of ties in with hockey day in Canada
on Saturday.
So it's a big weekend for them of the city,
and now for me as well.
Yeah.
Eatable.
Are you going to be fantastic?
Are you checking in Nashville right now?
I am.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, you guys know Trubidor, but I'm a,
I got a place over there that,
trying to decide if we're going to build.
But I'm down here at the Grove,
which is the other course right around the corner,
a little community itself.
So I kind of got the best of both worlds right now.
I just bounced back and forth between the two.
Seriously, you're living the highlight from there right now,
Just bounds of a treat.
Yeah.
Unreal golf courses.
It's tough, but somebody's got to do this job, man.
It's true.
You're really grinding out there.
You're doing the Lord's work.
That's it, yeah.
My pleasure, boys.
Funny, I run into Dutchie every now and again, and I'm like, I see you at every comfort station.
How does this work out?
Yeah, seriously.
Yeah, dude.
You spend all day in those things.
He's also living the dream.
Yeah, yeah.
It's ridiculous.
He's out, you know, to the rink, bopping down into Broadway.
He's listening to country music.
He's golfing at a trou.
but he's on the highlight.
I remember when he was with us in Ottawa and they were like,
are you going to resign this guy?
I was like, this guy's already in Nashville.
He's already playing there.
He just doesn't know it yet.
So he's been trying to get here for years.
I'm glad he did.
And now he's playing really well too.
So it's nice to see for him because I'm a huge fan of the guy.
Yeah.
Same.
And he was telling us too that he, like that's home now.
Yeah.
You know, like no matter what happens hockey career-wise,
hopefully he resigned and stays forever.
But no matter where he ends up,
there ended up back in Nashville at the end of the day.
He'll be a troubadour full time.
time. So if I'm there too, yeah. And then, you know, I think Roman, Romans got the lot right next to me.
I don't know what he intends to do, but a bunch of Anaheim Ducks guys that I played with in the area.
So we got a good little hockey contingent down here. You need to start getting some money games on the
board here for golf. That is true. I was going to say, you guys are, the hockey world is taking
over Nashville slowly but surely. It's just getting more guys coming in there and it's beautiful.
Especially. Well, Trubidor does the job too, right? Like the amount of calls I get from guys in the league still
that are like, hey, I'm starting to think about making my exit plan, you know, what's the lot like
at Tributor? I'm like, well, I mean, you can't get in the gates without $4 million now just to get a
dirt. You said dirt. It's crazy. I was lucky to get in a long time ago. So guys are kind of frowning at the
number, but I think a lot of guys are going to end up right here in the Grove where I am now.
If you get some cash games going on the golf course, are you going to clean up or what?
I'll clean up. Oh, wow. I'll clean up. I like you here.
Yeah. I've had a lot more time to practice than most of the guys in the last couple of years.
I was going to say, you're getting in early just means that you've got the inside track
and you've got the extra hours in, so you're just going to smoke everyone when they show up.
That's what I told you. I don't like this grind, but somebody's got to do it. I'll go hit balls every day.
You were playing the long game this whole time.
That's it. You know, like you were figuring out the way to make your schedule free to play golf
so that you can rig the big bucks later. You know, like the second career is the golf career.
Absolutely. Every video coach or every video session with coaches.
I was just on a putting green in Bermuda for the last couple of years anyway.
So just listening to these guys tell you what you did wrong.
I'm like, I'm out. I'm out. My mind's already in Nashville.
Amazing.
Okay, so I got to ask you a question.
And Dan and I were having to talk about getting to chat with you.
And it occurred to us that you have a little bit of a Sidney Crosby problem.
As I look at the full scope of your career.
Who does it, man?
Yeah.
Really.
But I want to start with, of course, the draft.
So 05 draft, you go second overall like Dan said, which is a very.
amazing. And a lot of people, I think, forget that that was coming off the lockout. It was.
It was like chaos. There was the whole lottery. And it's like, you know, a few teams were getting
three balls if you didn't have a playoff appearance or a first round pick. I think it was
the jackets, savers, Rangers, and Penguins had the three balls. And the other three kind of got
bagged. Their picks fell really far. But the penguins either lucked out or it was rigged,
whatever you want to call it. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Lemieux got his guy,
you know. But the penguins get the spot. The ducks slide up to two and get you. So we were
just so curious, what was it like going through a draft process that was such a, like,
Sidney Crosby sweepstakes? I think most players enter a draft, like, you know, who knows where I'm
going to go? That was, like, such a to-do about Sid. So how did that feel? What was that whole
process like? Yeah, there wasn't much of a question. It was like, all right, well, who's going second,
right? Because you had myself, yeah, Jack Johnson at the time was, was a very good player.
Carrie Price. Jelbert Broulet was the other guy that, like, everybody was like, this is the number
to overall pick, you know, leading up to it. But it just, you know, and I think he, I think he
ended up going six or something and didn't and kind of washed out of the league relatively quickly but
he was a good player you know in juniors and stuff um but it was a whirlwind man like we had no clue
and when i saw that anaheim got the second pick part of me was like oh i don't know if i want to go there
because they were so good right and like you get drafted that eye and you want to play and i looked at
that roster after i got drafted i was like i can't make this team like their fourth line is gets left
perry and penner like where am i going to slide in here um so you know part of me was like okay well
you know at least you're going to go right away into a good team when you do make the team so that was that was nice
you know i didn't have to go through the the lean years in somewhere like a columbus or whatever it might
have been um i got to go in and be on like a you know a team that was contending which was cool
but it was like a two and a half weeks before the draft we had no idea if there was going to be a draft
if it wasn't for sid i don't think they would have had one i think we would have been drafted
online and just heard our names called and and done that but they put it together there was
20 of us in a boardroom uh as opposed to like a stadium
at the Weston in Ottawa and uh you're only allowed to bring like three or four people it was it was a
shit show it really was and then yeah um you know they decided who the 20 guys are coming in and i'll
never forget we were all first round picks except for one guy who was ryan stoa who ended up sitting
in that room for like hours on end by himself and i just remember thinking i'm done with the media
i'm done everything and this guy still stayed a guy i felt so bad for him oh that's terrible but i was
like you know he was ranked in the 40s i was like why are you here like not you know i mean everybody
should be at your draft. I get it, but like, if they were only bringing 20 guys, then I just felt
so terrible for him. But, um, but yeah, it was, it was a mess. It was a mess. Like, the last
couple weeks leading up to it were just a shit show. Was it, was there any, like, Angel, like,
accidentally invited him? Yeah, true, that guy. Uh, was there any element, Bobby where it was like,
with it being the Sid sweepstakes, you could think really any other draft, you could have, could have,
or would have gone one? Was it kind of a relief being like, well, Sid's going off the board,
and then it's just, we'll see what happens with the rest of us. Was that kind of a,
calming feeling knowing that that wasn't going to be the toucher yeah but it was i mean it was like okay let's
just get that pick out of the way and then the draft and start right exactly that's kind of how it was
but yeah it was really nice for me brian burke came up to me the night before and i was like hey i'm
drafted you second tomorrow um and and you know have a nice night go to dinner with your family
do your thing but unless something drastically changes you will be the second pick so i i went
into that room and i was like thank god i'm not going to be here for a long time there's no
guessing, you know, like I couldn't imagine watching people walk up to the stage and thinking I
could be next. I could be next. Like, I got to be, you know, alleviated to that burden because I think
it's probably a pain in the ass. I was just glad. Dude, that is. It was nice. That is so awesome.
That dinner must have been epic. Oh, my God. I did it. I'm the second. Everybody, I'm the second
pick. We're in it. This is, yeah. I got hammered. I was like, this is, you know, just went over to
Hall in Quebec, right, or drink at ages 18, went out with my parents for dinner,
and then my girlfriend and I went over and enjoyed the city a little bit, ran around.
So I remember getting up on the day of the draft there.
I was like, oh, I hope I feel better than this in a couple hours.
I hope he wasn't lying.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Just a hangover and anxiety.
That would have been a shit show.
Bobby's sitting there like falling asleep and they're like, you know what?
We actually decided to go a different direction and he's like, oh, shit.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, thank God it worked out.
Oh, for sure.
All right, dude, let's talk about another time where Sid was kind of the boogeyman for you
and go to the 2010 Olympics.
So obviously, I know playing for Team USAA was a huge thing for you, a huge goal of yours.
So then you get there, you get on this unbelievable team,
score the first goal for Team USA in the tournament,
which must have been such an unbelievable feeling, get the monkey out of you back, calm the nerves.
You beat Canada 5'3 in the round, Robin.
And then obviously you get to the most electric goal.
old metal game in recent Olympics, no question. And obviously it ends in devastation for all of us.
But what were those games like? What did it feel like for you to really be putting on that
USA sweater at the Olympics for the first May the time? It was nuts. I had a really turbulent
relationship with USA hockey with the NTDP program that, you know, I kind of skipped out on
and went to the OHL. So, you know, I went to World Juniors in Vancouver as well. And if it wasn't
the second pick, like, I don't think they would have taken me. They just had no choice. They actually
took me my underage year and then didn't take me back to the next year. I was like, all right, well,
we took them once. We did what we needed to do. But I remember I was like third or fourth in the
OHL in points and I got cut the next year when they went to Sweden. I was like, that's nuts. So I,
I just didn't, the Olympics was a huge goal of mine for any athlete. But for me, like, getting the
chance and when they called me and said, we're going to, we're going to put you on this team, but you're
going to be, you know, we have a lot of scores. Your role is going to be different. You're going
to be a little bit of an energy guy, bring in some different, you know, and then you, you, you add
the offensive element if you can. But it is crazy. I think we did a really good job in all
Olympic teams to kind of checking your ego at the door. I was like, well, I want to be a score here.
Like, I'm scoring in the NHL at a good clip. Like, I probably could do that, but you kind of got
to take a backseat to what the team need you to be. So I, I enjoyed the entire process of it.
I thought it was incredible. I was so glad that I got to do it in a North American place where hockey
was in especially in Canada where hockey was like the affiliate run.
And,
and yeah, we tied that game up.
I think it was Zach that scored a game.
He was.
Yeah, yeah.
I was going to say, was that easy goal,
one of the most electric moments of your career?
I mean, watching his fans almost burn the house down.
It was so insane.
Yeah, it was nuts, dude.
It was, yeah, like, and then you, I mean,
then you, you know, you finished the period and you go in
and, like, everybody was just,
before the game was really quiet,
and then after we tied it,
everybody was just flying around, right?
At the excitement level.
We're like, we got the momentum, we got the momentum.
And then, you know, four-on-four hockey sucks.
It changes everything.
And to lose in four-on-four fashion, I think, is like,
you can say the same thing about shootout,
but I always think that, you know,
a game of that magnitude should just be five-on-five
until somebody gets it done.
Completely.
It might be a little, it's a little old-fashioned.
I get it.
People want to see open-ice stuff, but I don't know.
It sucks.
Crosby.
That's what I'm saying.
Bucking the Rosby about that.
It's just like, unbelievable.
That goal was, oh, I mean, it's like, you got to say it in its own right.
For the Olympics for Canada, for him, it's an iconic goal moment.
But God, it was.
It was.
Backward.
Yeah, it was.
It was.
It was.
And then, I mean, the emotions you go through on a gold medal game day, like, all day long are just incredible.
And, like, I remember we went out that night and then everybody left the next morning, right?
It was the last thing in the Olympics.
So everybody's kind of clearing out.
And I'm getting on the plane.
And I'm like, I have to.
play the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow after this.
It's like, how do you get up for this, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, and then I got to play with Getslaff and Perry on a line who just beat me for the gold
medal.
Oh, yeah.
I was like, you bastards.
Were they gracious about that or did they kind of rub your nose in it?
Yeah, of course.
I never put on my nose in it once.
Yeah, they were incredibly gracious because I mean, I also had Pronger and Niedemeyer on
the team, so I lost the four of my teammates.
And it was just me and Ryan Whitney, right?
Yeah.
American side, but they never once brought it up.
I give him credit, because I would not have done that.
I would have brought that up immediately.
You would have strut it into the locker with your gold medal hanging around your neck.
Yeah, I would have been a Connor McGregor locker right in the middle of the room, for sure.
Dude, well, you have that epic video with Getsloff, you know, when you're doing, like, it's like at the All-Star weekend or whatever, you know, he's making all the metal jokes.
And I just love whoever pitched you that idea.
Like, if I was going to like, no, dude.
I don't want to relive this.
This is ridiculous.
I don't think I knew what I was getting into what I saw.
signed up for that. They kind of told me what it was going to be, but really didn't give me much
more information. So I got there and I was like, so we're making a five minute video where I just
get absolutely annihilated the whole time? Okay, great. So sounds good. Absolutely sewered for my silver
metal. You know what though? Looking back all these years later, I'm like, it was pretty cool. It was
cool to do 13 years under? It's a memory, I guess, right? So I was going to say, do you still have
the silver medal at home or did you fire that thing into the Pacific Ocean? Because it's like,
No, it's, we lost, I lost it for like two years and then found it in like an old bank bag.
So it's sitting in my place out west in Idaho.
But it's one of those ones that like you never really pull out because you're like,
hey, I got a silver medal.
It's not gold.
It's like, you know, unless somebody directly asked me for it, it just sits in the drawer.
I mean, I think now that I'm retired, I might put it somewhere.
But it's, it's always come out after a lot of cocktails and there's a lot of chips for it.
There's a lot of chips in the side of that thing.
from my buddies dropping it, taking pictures or whatever.
Gives a character just.
I like it.
That's it.
Yeah, I make it look mean.
Yeah, yeah, hell of experience.
I love it.
Okay, last, last Sid Thorne in your side,
your epic senator's playoff run, 2017 Cup.
You know, you were dominating, first of all,
six goals, nine assists on the run.
You ripped our hearts out as Bruins fans in that first round.
Then you take down the rags, then you get pit.
And man, I was looking up.
I forgot about this.
In 19 games, you guys played 11 overtime periods in that run.
Yeah, it was insane.
You guys were in O-T, double OT, like over and over.
It was madness.
And then, obviously, game seven, you know, closest you've got to a cup so far, you know,
I think it was Kudence maybe, but someone pops one home game seven against the Penguins.
So just talk to us about how fun that run was, though, being the underdog in pretty much every series.
The whole way to do.
And yeah, and you guys just battled and took over it.
Like, how sick was that, even though it had a brutal thing?
I think it was the most fun I had playing hockey.
And I think it's more fun when you're, when, you know, like I had had a tough year.
I was out with a lot of injuries on the year.
And I came back for one game before the playoffs that I scored.
And I was like, thank God.
Like at least that monkey's off the back and I can go in the playoffs, you know,
healthy and happy and ready to go.
But everything, you know, we weren't.
We were a talented team.
But the way that we played, we were really comfortable in two to one, three to two tie games.
Because that's, that's kind of how we got there all year long.
You know, we weren't a team that was going to run it up on any given night.
We had that capability from time to time, but we just, we were really comfortable going
in the playoff games knowing that they were going to be tighter.
That was kind of the way our team was designed.
So we had a blast.
Like, I mean, the team was close.
And going into the series, I think we knew we were going to beat Boston.
We just, we just, the way that we matched up against them really, really fit into what we
were trying to do as a team.
So it was a good series.
The Ranger series was kind of non-term.
the script and then the penguin series i think everybody wrote us off in four or five games i don't know i think
we're here for this series uh oh yeah and and got up on them once or twice and and you know uh
i think games five we lost like seven to one and it had to go home and force it yeah we just got
blown out of the water but it made us like our team was just so tight we were just ready to go
every night and that shitty goal you know kuhn's fans on one and the sky high and drops behind
craig you know like was there any other way of this was going to end like it's always going to be a
shitty goal. Yeah. And I was standing on the ice,
kind of watching it going in slow motion. And I was like,
well, fuck, that's that.
It is. Let's get, let's get the
bus, let's get on the bus, get the bird
in the air and get out of here. Seriously, man.
It's one of those moments where when it goes in like that,
you just have to say, well, what the fuck, you know,
what we're supposed to do? And that's just
one of the all-time bad balances.
I'll say that. But you said it, dude.
The only thing I, they made us
pre-game skate for game seven.
We had it, because of the way game
five went. It helped some guys. For me though, we hadn't pregame skate it all playoffs.
Oh, man. Whoa. You know, it was just, we came out so flat in game five, Gia was like, we need to mix
us up. And I'm just, you know, I'm not a sleeper. So guys, guys will go to the pregame skate and then
take a nap, but I'm up for the day. Like, when I'm up, I'm up. So no pregame skate, I was
sleeping until like 10, 30, 11, and then just killing time all day, going to the meeting, you know,
relaxing. And it just, for me, I was like, what are we doing? What?
Why are we changing anything about what got us here?
And it, I mean, it's not the reason we lost by any means,
but I was like, you know, the mental part of me, I was like,
what are we doing?
I just stick with what we're, what's working.
But I guess in his defense, we didn't come out flat.
We played a pretty good game seven.
Yeah, I'm with you, though.
I would have done the same thing.
I would have been like throwing a curveball in like that in literally game seven
after you've been doing the same thing consistently.
That would mess with me big time.
I remember I looked over, I was sitting next to Mark Stone,
I want to say it was in like the second or third period.
And I was like, hey, are you tired?
He looks at me and he's like, he just looked back and goes, I'm fucking exhausted.
I was like, okay, all right, it's not just me.
It's like game seven.
You're trying to find whatever you can find, right?
And I just, I remember that game.
I was like, God, I'm flat.
I'm flat.
Like, find some jump somewhere.
And now, you know, they found it one more goal than us, I guess.
Yeah.
I love that behind the scene
because hockey players are a superstitious bunch
as we all know on the call
so mixing that up is crazy town to me
and I also love dude the relatability
of you see these pro athletes just going so hard
game 7 OT you know like you said earlier
I'm all about five on five continuous OT forever
I hope these games go all night
but as a fan when you're watching
you guys do feel like hockey playing robots
to me where I'm like yeah they're fine
just hit the turbo button in your yeah
but it's like no dude I'm fucking gas
this is a lot
I always say it's like you get like four out of ten games where you're just like, oh, I got to find something.
You got to like we're in Newark on a Tuesday at 7.30.
You got to, you got to find it somewhere.
Yeah.
And it's like how many energy drinks can you take?
Because that's what the playoffs were, you know.
Like when I started in the league, I remember I went on like a couple long runs with the Portland Pirates like the American hockey league team.
And back then you're talking, you know, 18 years ago, give or take, maybe a little.
less than that that playoff run in the American League just ran on red wine and espresso.
That was like that was that was how the playoffs ran but it's a lot different now obviously.
But yeah, I was like I can't take another double espresso before the second overtime.
I met like seven today.
Yeah, your heart's going to explore.
Yeah, I was like got to calm it down here.
Man, I really want to hear about what I think personally is one of the most special hockey moments of all time.
In the 1920 season, you went into the player assistance program.
in, I think it was
November. And then you come out in
February and your first game back
at Ottawa, you tuck a half trick
in front of the home fans against Vancouver and a
5-2 win. Is
that up there as one of the most special moments
of your playing career? Because, you know, like
I said, as a fan, that
to me and to many of us just
felt like one of those larger-than-life
moments. It's the stuff that you look at in sports
and you go, you literally can't write this stuff. It's so
incredible. How did that feel? It's funny.
It was crazy, but I'm...
So I had actually played two nights before in Nashville, my first game back.
Yeah.
And I was supposed to play the night before, and they called me at 3 o'clock,
and they were like, the GM forgot to activate you.
So I had been like, I was like, that sounds about right.
This is the sentence, right?
So I was like, all right, you know, sat that one out and then played the next night in Nashville.
And I was so glad I got one out of the way on the road before coming home.
Yeah.
And playing.
And, you know, one of the coaches.
just said to me, he's like every now and again in sports, you just get one of those moments. So,
you know, we all got one of those moments tonight. It was, it was incredible to watch.
And that really, because when you're playing, like, I fought that game, you know, and had the
hat trick. And like, you're just caught up in the moment of playing. You don't really get it.
And then after the third one, the way that the building reacted, that's where kind of came crashing
down on me with the magnitude of the situation and what it was. And it was kind of, you know,
it's a family game, right? For that one for me and my wife and kids and everything, it had been,
a long run up to that. So it's definitely up there for me.
Something like every now and again, I don't know why. My kids are, you know, six and four.
They're always on YouTube. But every now and again, they'll see a picture of me on YouTube
and click on it. And it's always that damn video. I'm like, all right, I can't do this.
I can't do the waterworks today. Yeah. My six year old's like, I want to watch it. I'm like,
you're not watch. Get it off. You're just like walking through the kitchen. You hear it
playing and you're like, oh, gosh, it's like, it's like, it's happened four or five times.
And she's like, I want to watch it because, you know, there's a me trying to
not to cry on the bench. I was like, I don't need that. I don't need that today, Riley.
Thank. Please turn it off. I hear you, dude. It may, it's, it's like with the fan,
everyone's chanting your name. Everyone's got to sign up. The boys on the bench are like pounding
the board. It's emotional for me to watch. Like when I need a good cry, I throw that on.
I can imagine it. It feels like for you. I'm getting the chills just thinking about it,
honestly. It gives me chills every single time. We feel the same way, man. It's obviously doing
what we deal. We're on, we're on social media all the time, doing hockey.
stuff and it is just one of those videos that pops up every time and for me
obviously I don't have the same personal connection that you do so I watch it
every time because it is it's like a movie scene it legitimately looks like it's out of
a movie yeah it does it does it's yeah yeah it's an emotional one for me but
but to answer the question it's it's very high up there on my list of things that
I'll I'll remember about my career well I bet okay well I get another one that I'm
sure you remember December 12 2010 Ducks home game against the wild
Mikukoi boot
Hux his stick
steals your stick out of your hand
you go into the corner
pick his stick up
bury your rebound
and hold his stick out to
in one of the most cold blood
sounds I've ever seen
in by life
so dude I just want to know
what talk me through
like what was even
going through your head
as it's happening
as your sticks getting taken
you know like as you scored
because you know
we watched Zegris do that
the other day
and get a penalty
you can't even do it now
you know
it's like just Bobby Ryan rule
the chaos of that
yeah I talk about
Talk to me about the chaos of that 30 seconds in your life.
Honestly, waiting between when I had my stick taken, like, right out of my hands,
up until I scored, I was like, when is this whistle going to blow?
But I figured they had to touch the puck, right?
So they hadn't.
And you can see us battling in the corner.
And Perry's like, go get a stick.
And there's nothing out.
I don't know what to do.
I think I don't know what to do.
And the puck went to the point.
I was like, I guess I started to think about changing.
I remember, I was like, should I just get a little.
off and the stick was just laying there and I was like all right well it's just laying there so
I picked it up you could actually see me pick it up and I'm like oh all right it's left-handed um but it happened
so quick that rebound was so perfect off the pads it came right to and like and he had like a really
sharp heel curve so I had about this much to work with on the stick plate and it just happened to be
it was perfect um and then I didn't mean I didn't actually mean to celebrate so cold-blooded I guess but
no no no Bobby embrace maybe I did all right
Right. Embrace that. It is the, it is a top five goal celebration in the history of the
NHL. It's the most savage thing I've ever seen. It's so good. Yeah, I was, it was a little
cocky, but I, but I was like, you know what? Fuck you too. Like, you stole my stick. Yeah.
So, you know, have a step on this. Here you go. Yeah. Yeah. He stole your twig. You took his and
buried with it. Like, I mean, that's, that is just elite stuff right there. You can't, you can't ask
for better. What's crazy is that they were trying to, like, dispute.
the goal. Like so, you know, the Nvidia
couldn't really see it, but it was like a couple minutes long. And I'm like,
what is the argument here? I picked up a twig that was laying there. I didn't use it
illegally. Just, you know, drop the puck. Let's go. So I was like,
if this gets called back, I'm going to snap. It's like, this is too cool to have called back.
So I was glad it's that. They had to leave that. Dude, and my favorite part,
and the most underrated part about that goal when you rewatch it is,
Kloivu's stick is like kind of on the hash wall. Like, it's up on.
the side of the boards and anti-meyettin comes down and starts pushing it into the corner because
I think he's trying to fuck you guys up like he's like I'm just going to get this in a passing lane
so whatever they'll screw up but he accidentally put it right in your wheel hands yeah dude like you
turn around pick it up bang and I'm like oh yeah he needs an assist on yeah I was going to say
he should have gotten on the board for that because it was like I mean he could not have put that
in a more perfect place I took two strides out of the corner and it was laying there and I was
yeah thank you very much oh so perfect incredible dude but all time all time hall of fame YouTube
Oh yeah.
For sure.
Dude, Bobby, this Christmas Eve, I'm sitting on the couch and I'm just scrolling
Twitter and I come across a tweet from you that says, can you imagine being Harry Potter
getting a voice member from Baltimore that heavy?
So I need to know, A, are you a big Potter guy?
And B, if so, give me your favorite movie.
The favorite movie is the last one with the ending scene and everything.
But I was watching it.
My little girl was watching it.
I was trying to get her into it.
She's just not there yet.
But nonetheless, we were watching it together, sitting on the couch,
and I was like, dude, that's a cold voice memo.
It's never pretty hard.
It's when he's calling to him, right?
Yeah, yeah.
It's during the final fight.
Yeah, yeah, when he's like, Harry Potter, I speak directly to you.
Yeah, I was like, this.
Yeah, I had never really thought of it in any other way before than watching the movie.
And I'm just like, man, you know, 2023, right, or 22, I guess at the time.
I was like, that'd be the coldest voice memo to get.
100%.
Like, do you, like, during the holiday, do you just, do you just gas?
those movies like we do because it's the it's constantly on TV during the month of
December yeah all day long yeah it's like I the Hallmark channel is on all the
time like all the time in this household um so every time I got a chance I would I would
walk by and just they're marathons you know literally yes yeah from 22nd to the 31st it's like
Harry Potter time so yeah um yeah I turn it on every time it's on I still do so so do we and
I can't get past.
No, no way.
I stand by.
It's, I consider all of them Christmas movies because of it.
That least, they're just on during Christmas, so I'm like, these movies are Christmas movies.
Sorry, it is one.
I would agree.
Absolutely agree.
Yeah.
It's unbelievable.
Yeah.
It's literally comforting.
Yeah.
Okay, movies, let's get into a little TV action.
I know you love to binge watch some TV shows, but I also know that you don't love some of the classics.
Like, you're not a wire guy.
You didn't like Sandman.
Did I know?
So, like, hit me with some.
Mount Rushmore TV shows that you do like.
And then if you've got some, hit me with ones that you're like,
this show is really overrated and it sucks.
Okay.
Yellowstone.
Is it top.
Are these the good ones?
Yeah.
Yeah, sorry.
Yellowstone's top three for me.
Ted Lasso.
Dude, one tree hill.
That was my jam.
Remember that one?
Like, come on.
Of course.
That was like, yeah, Thursday night at the household.
That was on every single Thursday.
And like when that was on and then the OC.
Oh, big OC.
I was going to say, I'm surprised you weren't an OC guy.
You were there, dude.
You were living there.
You were living the whole thing.
You got to be an OC guy where you were.
Dude, I watched the last episode of OC like a month ago, just ran through it the last season.
But yeah, those would be Wontree Hill OC, Yellowstone, some of the Anarchy.
I really, really, really liked.
Yeah.
Those would be probably my top five.
And I'm trying to think of some of the overrated ones that, like,
I never watched The Office.
I just couldn't do the humor.
Really?
Wow.
Wait, wait.
Actually, that's a hot take.
I tried it five times.
I'm curious.
Is it like the Michael Scott awkward shit?
Does that not say well with you?
Yeah, yeah.
I know people who are, I can't handle how awkward he is.
I can't.
I couldn't do it.
I'm trying to think of some of the other really popular ones that people watch that I just couldn't get into.
Where are you out on Thrones?
I did finally watch it.
And it took a lot out of me to finish it.
I got to be honest with you.
I just was like,
all right,
I'm out.
Prison break was another one that I,
the first season of prison break is one of the best television shows in history.
And then just straight off a cliff after that.
Um,
because it's like,
oh,
no,
we'd narrowly escaped again.
Now we're,
like,
how many times can we do this?
Yeah,
yeah,
either catch them or let them go.
Um,
but that one.
And then I'm watching one called Echo 3 right now that just came out that is
really good on Apple TV.
So give that a go.
Okay.
I haven't eaten that me.
I have,
I'm going to put that.
I'm going to bookmark that in a big way.
But dude, I need to know, you're a big wings guy.
It was a big wings guy.
Yeah, I had never seen it.
I had never seen it.
And I'm a big sitcom guy before bed.
Just to kind of like, you know, like to zone out a little.
Like I fall asleep with my iPad and Big Bang Theory almost every single night.
Yeah, it's like, you know, I've been through friends so many times.
So I needed something else.
And somebody mentioned Wings to me.
And yeah, I binge that one real quick.
I was a real big fan of that show.
Dude, and Wings needs you.
Honestly, it's like Wings is one of those underrated shows in the game and finding out that you were a big wings fan.
I was like, damn, okay.
Like that is.
Because those creators did Cheers.
Yeah.
Then Wings, then Frasier.
And I feel like Cheers and Frazier gets all the hype.
So we need a couple of Wingsheads out here going on.
I'm with you guys.
Boys and Nantuck.
I'm in.
I'm in with you guys.
I think that show just kind of got blown out of the water ratings-wise because it was on at the wrong time.
Like if that was on a year or two differently in either direction, it would have been a bigger hit.
But I absolutely love the show.
Yeah.
I completely agree.
Amazing.
I love killer.
All right, Bobby, we want to play a game that we play on this show with you.
It's called Pass Shoot Score.
Basically, what this game is.
We're going to give you three things.
And it's basically going to be your ranking of what you need the most versus what you need the least.
So Pass is great.
Dishing the fuck around is good, but it's not the best.
Shooting is a little bit better.
We want to get some bucks on that.
And then scoring, light and the lamp is obviously the best.
So that's going to be your ranking system.
So, pass shoot score.
Fast shoot score.
First one we're going to do.
We talked about how much of a team USA guy you are.
We're going to do some iconic USA players,
even some guys that you sort of looked up to you.
So pass shoot score.
Mike Medano, Brett Hull, Jeremy Ronek.
Oh, I have to give you.
Okay, I'm going to pass on JR.
Okay.
I'm going to shoot with Madonna and then I'm going to score with Holly
because he lives about, well, Holly lives just over there in Trubidor, right?
So I see that guy.
Oh, shit.
That's right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You're going to have to answer to this if you didn't go.
Yeah, exactly.
That's been me.
Having spent time around him, that guy's all time, whether he's on guys or not.
And is it true?
One of my favorite guys that watch golf.
Is it true that you wore number nine for Madonna?
It is, yeah.
So I started wearing 16, you know, really young for Brent Hall.
And then I think I went to a team where 16.
I can't remember how I ended up with nine.
I made the switch and then never looked back.
I just, I like nine, the number better.
But yeah, I did, I mean, you good two American players.
Those are my two favorite American players of all time.
So it's hard to pass, you know.
It was an easy pass for JR.
Sorry, buddy.
Tough bid for JR, but he's up against a stiff competition there.
It's not his fault, not his fault.
Dude, we actually, we always get into a lot of number talk with our guests.
And I love how superstitious numbers can become.
And was nine kind of always in your play?
Like, I feel like when you wore six, that was just nine upside down.
And then 54, was that adding up to nine?
Like, what happened?
So 54 was my rookie number when I got to Anaheim.
Oh, sick.
Yeah.
So that was like my first training camp number.
And then generally what they do is they give you a lower number.
Like Brian Burke's really, really big on this.
You don't get a lower number or to pick your own number until you're very solidified.
And like I had two 30 goal seasons before I was allowed to switch.
And they always knew I wanted nine, but Paul Curry was there.
So it was kind of this, you know, ominous thing.
Do you do it or do not?
And one night I just walked in.
and we were getting ready for a game
and I looked at my stall and I was like,
holy shit, that's the number nine jersey.
Like I had no clue, right?
That's how you found it.
Nobody told me.
Oh my God.
So that game was against Mike Medano.
That first game I wore number nine in the NHL.
And I remember telling, I was like, I grew up on you, bud.
You know, if you're the reason I wear this and he's like,
that means I'm getting old.
Yeah.
So I actually, there was a picture.
I got to find it because I'd like to blow it up on canvas.
I've had me taking a draw against him that night.
and then I actually scored a really pretty goal that night
where I kind of went in to end and blew right past them.
So I like to give him shit about that every time I see them.
Yeah, that's beautiful.
Dude, best night ever.
Yeah, it was pretty cool.
It was unreal.
Yeah, what a sick story.
My God.
Unreal.
That's a great way to find out.
Okay, ready for the next one?
Yep.
Okay, we're doing hobbies, okay?
Pass shoot score, playing nine holes with a bunch of your boys,
playing guitar, maybe ripping a nice,
Ray LeMontang song, or spending a nice quiet morning lake fishing and the fish are biting.
Okay. I'll pass on the, I'm not a fisherman. I don't, I, I never spend on a ton of time.
So pass there. I'll shoot the, I'll shoot the guitar playing a little bit, hanging out by yourself.
And then it's hard to, it's hard to pass up on, you got to score with playing with the boys, nine holes.
I hate nine holes, though. I got to play 18.
I think you play more than 18, dude.
I figured you're running some 36ers.
I got no problem running a 36er.
Never.
Never.
Yeah, I'll play all day long.
We know you're a huge golf fan.
Who's some of your favorite golfers right now?
I've always been a speed fan.
I really like watching Rory.
So they're kind of the nondescript answers right there.
They're the same as everybody.
But I can't do the John Roms.
It just looks like a potato out there.
Yeah.
And then Scotty Sheffler.
I'm not a big fan of.
I'm like, he just, when I look at him, I don't have fun.
You know, I agree.
Yeah, I'm like, you're so boring, man.
Have a, you know, personality of a wet mop.
But I would say, yeah, Spith and Roarier are my two favorite.
When they're in contention, I pay a lot more attention.
Oh, no doubt.
I feel the boring, the Sheppler call out.
I feel that I mean with Sergio, too.
Every time Sergio is on TV, I'm just like, just get out of here, man.
You're ruining this for all of us.
Just, you get a nerd.
I'm with you.
I've got no time for him.
No chance.
It's been fun to see Jordan kind of come pick it up here and come back out of that little lull he went in.
And then Rory, too, honestly, the last couple seasons, like, Rory, I was like, I'll never win Augusta.
It's just never going to happen.
He can't play.
But the last couple years, he's been really back on his game.
I think this might be his year.
I think he might be my, I might be riding him into the Masters Week and then some fools.
Oh, okay.
It's got a click.
It's got a click at some point here.
I want it for him so bad.
We're pumped for that.
The Netflix doc's coming out.
February 15th.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, dude.
Set that day aside.
Whenever's going on, it's done.
Bobby, you were so locked into the golf game right now.
I love it.
This is like, this is a great error for you.
It's beautiful.
You got to embrace it, man.
As you say, we're down in Nashville too often that.
We've got to get on the tree with you.
This is like, it's just becoming too prevalent in my life to not give that a
I mean, have you played, have you played Trub?
No, no.
Oh, yeah, okay.
So you got to play Trude, but the grove where I am, the course is way better here.
Oh, wow.
The course is better.
It just doesn't have the amenities.
So if I'm going to host, yeah, we'll go to Trubidor.
You know, you guys can hammer the comfort stations.
And then all that.
There's just some fine dunchy there.
Yeah, yeah, he's just sitting on it.
He's got his own stool up there with the snacks.
But, yeah, I would love to.
You guys come down.
Let me know.
All right, yeah, 100%.
Okay.
The next pass sheet score is going to,
me some places that mean something to you.
So we're going to go pass-chute squirt, your family home in Idaho, the Eiffel Tower, or Costa Vita
Mexican Grill in Portland.
Oh, buddy.
Fuck, you just changed the game.
Oh, man.
I'm passing on the Eiffel Tower, hard pass there.
Dude, that's tough.
You proposed there, though.
It's not that tough when you look at the other two.
I'm going to, I'll shoot the Costa Vita.
and then I'll score with my family,
my home in Idaho.
I'm headed up there next month.
I can't wait.
That's like,
that's my happy place, you know?
Yeah,
yeah.
You get your holes in in the morning,
right on the boat,
surfing all afternoon.
That's,
that's,
yeah,
that one's a no-brainer.
But Costa Vita shit.
Like that Koso,
that's,
that's,
that's,
dude,
the chips and K-Sys
good, man.
Dude,
I was actually funny.
You mentioned the pirates earlier.
We're from Maine.
So we grew up going to Pirates games
when you were playing.
No way.
We've been to Costa Vita a million.
Dude, that was like, it was out at the mall there.
I'll never forget, because it was like, you know,
the HL back then was a Friday,
it kind of still was Friday, Saturday, Sunday league.
And the way that Kevin Danine did it,
who was my favorite coach of all time,
was like, hey, I have to give you guys a day off,
but it's not going to be Monday.
So he would make us come in and practice on Monday
after playing three and three.
And then we would have Tuesday off.
So essentially he was giving us more time off,
but every single Tuesday because we all went out Monday.
It was dollar beer night.
We're all, you know, 20, 21 years old.
And that was like our go-to.
Everybody would wake up, kind of come to it from the night before.
What happened?
Let's go talk about it at Costa Vito over a bowl of chips and K-Safe.
That was our damn.
No place flat.
So wait, hold on.
You're surfing out in Idaho?
Wake surfing, right off the way.
Wake surfing.
Wake surfing.
Yeah, great, great.
Yeah.
That stuff's beautiful.
Yeah, and that's hard to be.
So when you got a family home in a place like that,
when you just kind of unplug you, everything,
it's hard to top something like that.
It is, yeah.
Fly fishing's hard enough.
You know, you might as well.
I'd much rather be behind the boat
than try to figure out how to fly.
Oh, for sure.
I got this really cool picture.
Tyler Johnson, who's in Chicago now,
um,
uh,
is a very,
very good wake surfer and he lives there.
So we're always out with him,
but I have this really cool picture that we redid,
um,
two famous surfers did it.
I don't know who they were,
but this was obviously years ago,
but it was me,
it was him surfing.
with a white claw on his hand.
And then you got me hanging off the back of the boat
and my wife's up there taking the picture or whatever.
But it's him, you know, pouring the beer
or pouring the white claw and me chugging in.
I still have the picture somewhere.
I think it's actually in Idaho.
But one of my favorite pictures of all time,
I was like, I just wish I wasn't so good at it.
I got 86 from my own boat.
Yeah.
Oh, we got to get that picture
and then the U and Madonna picture on canvas
blown up on the board.
Like, yeah, we need those right next to each other.
Yeah, actually, I'm going up to pack some stuff up.
I actually might pack that picture up because I'm trying to bring more of stuff down to my place here in Nashville.
Now that I'm a little more, you know, that we know we're here and we're not going to be traveling anytime soon.
So I'm going to bring that picture down off to show the boys, send you a picture.
Amazing. Please do.
Okay. All right, next one. This one's a bit of a grab bag, okay?
Pass chute score.
A plate of orange chicken from your favorite Chinese place, wherever you want.
Panda. No brainer.
Wow, Doc.
Big Panda.
I mean, how'd be you not be?
Orange chicken from Pandora.
Or an electric NFL
NFL playoff weekend,
perfect slate games all day,
or the University of Michigan.
I'll pass on the University of Michigan
because I never got there.
I actually already have passed.
Honestly, we just wanted to set you up
so you could pass on Michigan again.
Yeah, I'll pass on Michigan.
I'll shoot.
the, God damn.
Oh, it's hard.
No, I got a score with orange chicken, man.
Wow.
I shoot the end up on a bowl.
And then all in on a bowl.
I don't even get, like, you know how you go in the band and they're like,
the two plates special or whatever where you get two served?
I'm like, no, no, no.
Just take the orange chicken and put it in the biggest box you have.
And I don't even eat the rice or anything.
That's it.
Just straight orange chicken.
You know how they have like the dividers and the cartons and you're like,
no, no, like just give me open carton, just orange chicken.
That's it.
That's it.
That's it.
I just want all that.
MSG, please.
God, that's amazing.
And then obviously you're a huge NFL fan.
Who's your team? Are you like all in on Titans now because you're down there?
What's the deal?
Not really.
I don't like the way they play.
I don't like their style.
So no, so a good buddy mine played for the Vikings for a long time, Kyle Rudolph, who's now
in Tampa.
I just saw that he's inactive, I think, tonight.
But nonetheless, he's had a tough year with the injuries last couple years.
But I kind of followed the Vikings with him being there.
And then when he went to the Giants, I'm from Philly, man.
can't do that with you. So I wouldn't say I have a team. I would say Kansas City because I'm a
huge Mahomes fan. So I watch his games more often than anything, more often than any of the team.
So it's kind of front running, I guess, but I'll tell you this, there's very few players in any
sport that I was like, you just have to see some players live. You know, and I got to see Kobe and
still haven't seen LeBron, unfortunately. But Mahomes was coming here as I had just retired. Mahomes was
coming down to play the Titans and I said to my wife and I was like I got to go you want to come
we'll make a day of it we went and it was the only game in his goddamn career he didn't throw a
touchdown he did absolutely nothing we we left in the third quarter because they were getting spanked
and I was like she's like you you wanted to see 15 I was like well let's not talk about it all right
didn't you mean Derek Henry he's got 800 yards you're like no no no it's boring that's boring
football six hundred bucks well worth it dude we've all been there when when the rady came to play the rams
here in Tampa, yeah, we're out in L.A.,
so when he came, we were like,
we got to go to that game because we're big Brady guys,
and it was just like the shittiest game.
He's ever played, and I was like,
great, this was really worth the time.
That sucks.
You might be watching his last game ever tonight.
Don't know.
It's crazy.
I'm worried about it.
I'll be over there at Trubidor watching with you.
All right, so here's your last past shoot for you,
but this one's going to be tough
because this is going to need dislikes, I believe.
Dislake.
So, yeah,
Wait, then T.M up, Dan.
So, Bobby, pass is the thing you can tolerate the most.
Score for this one is like, that's the worst thing.
Okay.
So whatever you give score.
Kind of going to every other disorder.
All right.
So your passion score is every steak you order for the rest of your life has to be well done.
Okay.
Every sandwich you eat for the rest of your life is covered in mayonnaise.
Or you can never use chapstick again for as long as you live.
You just have to have chap lips constantly no matter what.
Oh, man.
Okay.
The one I can tolerate the most would be score, right?
No, we're going to go.
No, it's going to be up.
Okay.
So tolerate it.
Can't eat a weld on steak?
It's literally not even worth it.
It's not worth eating.
Okay.
I'll say chapstick for score.
Okay.
I've never had mayonnaise.
Well, you've never even eaten it once.
You just think that you hate it?
I just know I hate it.
I'm just absolutely like.
He's disgusted by it.
And ranch. I've never tried ranch, but I won't even have, like, my little girl has it on pizza and I have to have in the house, but I can't, like, you open it around me and I gag. The smell just kills me.
Do you feel that way about blue cheese as well?
No, because I'm from Jersey, so you have to dip a little, you have to dip a wing in some blue cheese.
Oh, you know, yeah. Not a lot, just to, you know, just a touch.
Agreed, completely.
But I'll go with, I'll go with the middle, middle tier being the mayonnaise tier, because I just can't eat a well-down steak.
I'll suck up some mayonnaise, but I'm not eating a well-done steak.
So that's my past.
I mean, I feel like I would have to be the absolute same way.
I mean, like, a well-done steak is just, I mean, it's mortifying enough when you go to a restaurant and you order rare or medium-rare, and it's just a little bit overdone, let alone getting a well-done steak that is just criminal.
I can't even process it.
I'm getting worse.
Like I, to the point where I'm like, if the center is almost cold, I'm okay.
like that's yeah
dude see yeah
I just like work
Knock the wind at
knock the wind up
I was just gonna say
Rip the horns off
Walk him around the fire
I'll call him good
That's it
I'm gonna
I've said a bunch of times
It's just like
I'll just tip the cow for me
That's all it's all it's on
That's it
That's what buddy
I buddy had a stake
A couple weeks ago
And I said it
His line was
If this thing had a shot
A penicill and he might have lived
And I was like
What a great line
I was like I'm keeping that
That is
That might be my favorite
One of those I've ever heard
That is really good.
Oh shit.
That's beautiful.
That's incredible.
I was laughing too, because I saw it.
We were reading that, we asked about the chap lips because it's like, we were reading that
you're like, oh, I'll put like lip balm on the lips under my nose before I go to bed.
It's a whole production.
And I swear to God, I'm the same way.
I have the most chapped lips of anyone I've ever known on Earth.
And Dan knows that it about me.
So like every time he needs Japsic or someone can't find Japsing, he's like, ask Chris.
He has like me.
I just, I'm pulling him out of.
Oh, yeah.
I got Aqua 4 runs all over, yeah, all over the master bedroom back.
there. There's tubes of aqua for.
I wake up in the middle night and put it back on.
You need it, dude.
I love it. Oh, shit. Okay, well,
that's the game. Thank you so much for playing. But before
we let you go, dude, we wanted you
to take a chance to just plug your pod,
the coming in hot pod. I don't like you.
Hear about it, what you're doing. Yeah, where we can listen.
The viewers want to get on board
with that. So tell us everything about coming in
home. Yeah, we started, it's been
going for about two and a half months, so we're building.
There's not much of a market,
or there was a market for a really good one with some ex-players talking about,
you know, Ottawa and the senators.
You know, there's the few local ones, but not guys that have actually been in the room and things like that.
So we kind of, we saw this market and named it after my first ever tweet about going to Ottawa when I said,
I'm coming in hot.
Oh, I wanted to ask that.
That's awesome.
It just kind of tied in, right?
So Brent Wallace, who was with TSN, is kind of doing the hosting and kind of steering the conversation.
but we're having a lot of fun.
And then there's like Yorkie played in the league for a long time, played in Anaheim, played in Nashville and some other places overseas as well.
So the stories that we're able to kind of go back and forth on are just incredible.
You know, and it's tough because you got to make them PG for the podcast.
But it's it.
Yeah.
And then especially when you're talking about guys that are still playing there and things like that.
But yeah, coming in hot, it's on YouTube, I want to say, I don't know anything about it.
I got to be honest with you.
I just know it's coming in hot.
Just tell me when and where to be there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Just tell me when and where to be there.
And that's kind of how it goes.
It is fun. It was not an avenue. I kind of saw myself taken, but as I was doing more and more, you know, guest work with it, I was like, I could do this. I'm enjoying doing it.
Yeah, you're great at it too, because it's, you know, it's a new thing and it's already buzzing, which is absolutely beautiful.
Before we let you go, dude, is there anything else you want to plug? What's going on in your life? What do you want to shout out at all?
Not much, man. I'm just lowering the handicap day by day.
There you go.
It's a tough, bad. It's tough living. But, no, I'm good.
What is the handicap these days?
I can't tell you guys because I keep it pretty high.
Bye, Pat.
That's actually okay too because we can't let any of the guys that are coming down to Nashville.
No, because when we start putting some money on these holes, yeah.
We need to have them come in the dark for sure.
Well, when I play with the guys, like, and we're playing for money, I'll tell them what I should be.
But I do, like, I was playing in these celebrity tournaments and you just can't even compete
unless you keep it at like a 9, 10, or 11.
So I keep it at like the bare minimum of that.
And I think I play at those tournaments at a 9.
And I still don't, I don't sniff it.
People card 59s out there all the time.
I'm like, well, you're not a 22 handicap then.
You're lying.
Yeah.
And then you play against the females in those things.
Like, I've got to give you 70 yards and two pops.
Okay.
Just tell me to go, I'll stay. Oh, I'll play Grove.
Yeah, no kidding.
But, no, it's getting pretty low.
So.
Okay, good.
What area of the game needs improvement?
Driver.
How do we get a word?
Oh, really?
Yeah, me too.
I missed a fairway, and you've got to be in a fairway to score.
They're getting there
The game
Yeah I was going to say
All right
Well next time we get down to Nashville
We're going to link up
So we can get out on the course
Because that is a
That's an absolute bucket list
That we got it
Absolutely not a problem
You guys
Just let me know I'll be here
For sure
All right
You know it buddy
Enjoy dinner
Enjoy dinner at the trouub
Enjoy the enjoy Brady
We'll do
It should be
Yeah
Thanks so much for coming on
We'll have you out again soon
For sure
I would love that
Yeah
It was a blast
It really was
Thank you
Thank you
Fantastic
Fantastic time
With Bobby Ryan
Huge shoutouts to him
Huge thank you to him
we're going to Nashville and golfing with him.
Dude, I am so jealous of his setup.
Like, every time I see an NHL player, I'm like,
oh, I'm jealous because they're in the NHL and that's cool.
Fuck that, dude.
I'm jealous of Bobby Ryan.
He's just bouncing back and forth between the two of the best golf courses in Nashville
and living his best life.
He loves music.
He's surrounded by some of the best music, some of the best food.
He's got a beautiful family.
He's playing golf every day.
He's got his kids watching YouTube videos of the most iconic moment of his
NFL career on the leg.
He's got a senator's podcast.
It's like, man, he is killing it and good for him.
Yeah.
Good for him, and I just hope Bobby is very aware that we are in Nashville a lot, and I am taking him up on that offer.
And that wasn't an empty... That was better not be empty promises, because I need to get out on the course immediately.
Certainly not. All right, let's wrap up this episode, as we always do, with a couple of our segments. Take it away, CP.
Little Ica watch for the gang. Here's the thing. Jack's only played two games since our last record. He did have a goal in one of them, which I love to see, bringing him to a total of 33 points and 31 games. In his other game, they did lose.
and he was a dash three again, but again, I don't care.
This is about points, and he's doing okay.
Keep tucking.
You know what, Dan, though?
I would like to see Jack score a little more.
He has 15 on the year so far.
He's on pace for 33, which would be the second most in his career,
but I did have high hopes for 40 this year.
So just keep firing, keep shooting.
What are the odds that Dan loses his bet?
Well, here's the thing.
There's no way he's hitting 90.
With the games that he's missed, I really don't think he's hitting 90.
But I did say, for the sake of content,
if he is on a 90 point pace
because he's going to have so
so many less games played
I will stick to this shrimp bet
and we still
he's still very on pace for 71
but there's no caveat there
like if he misses too many games
and can't get to 70 or 72
which is my whole thing
people thought that I was doubting his playing ability
I was doubting his ability
to stay healthy after everything he's gone through
so immediately and I told him
everyone it was free money which it is
so
as far as where in the world
Austin Matthews is
you know I gotta say
he's happily in Toronto.
I think it's been a good little run here for him.
He's got 48 points and 42 games.
The Maple Leafs continue to do very, very well.
They're in second place.
But Tampa's got two games in hand
and they're only two points behind.
So don't get too comfy.
Yeah.
And I will say big, big tilt over the weekend
with the Bruins and the Maple Leafs.
It was my game to watch last week.
It was an unbelievable game.
And Matthews tied it up 3-3 in the third period
with a absolutely disgusting.
disgusting goal.
He's just a great player.
It was just like.
I love watching him talking.
Phone booth, stick handling shelf job, top cheese, all the stuff, all of the toppings on it, all the fixings.
And he just looked very swaggy while celebrating it.
So he was in my head.
Yeah.
I was a little worried.
I was a little worried that I was going to say that not only was he living in Toronto, but was now a president of the team.
That's how secure he felt.
But bees pulled out that win, so it knocks him down a little peg.
But he's at Scotia Bank.
Don't worry.
He's comfortable, dude.
He took his shoes off.
He took his coat off.
But like you said,
Tampa might blow that place right down.
They sure might.
And then he's going to wish he had his coat on.
Yeah.
We'll see.
Okay, Dan,
little playoff trail action for you.
Sorry to say you've hit a few bumps in the road.
Yes, we sure have.
You've lost four.
The same has lost four of their last five.
They could be into six,
down to six place by the time of this,
like right now,
not even when this will come out on Thursday,
but like they might be in six by the end of tonight.
But we didn't get comfortable.
You go through rough patches here.
We're still,
that that wild card spot is still right in our sights
I'm not freaking out
and I think Dan we know
I think the fact of the matter is
this is just how it's going to go
the road to Oregon is not easy
and neither is the road to the playoffs
yeah no it is sure
there's dysentery there's there's wild animals
there's bumps in the roads there's broken down bridges
rivers there's rivers
flooding rivers
there's surging rivers that you need to cross
and we're prepared
I hope so we got too comfortable in the beginning
but we have stayed sharp since
this we're going through
a tough spell here, but
Sabres are going to be okay.
Amazing. Do you have anything for the fans to watch?
I sure do. I got two games for you guys to watch this week.
We're going to go a Thursday night game, so this is the day this episode comes out,
and we're talking about them right now.
It's a Sabres game.
Sabers Islanders, two teams, little New York, New York action.
Very similar records, very similar teams.
They've got similar shit going on.
Similar aspirations.
They're similar aspirations.
It's our similarity game of the week.
Islander Sabers, Thursday night.
and then Saturday night.
I always love to give you guys
a little Saturday game.
We're going to go the Aves Cracken.
We're talking about Cracken hottest team of the week.
They're just a unbelievable team right now
and going up against the former Stanley Cup champs
who have had a little bit of a limp this year, I'd say,
some injuries, some stuff going on,
but you cannot sleep on the Aves
and I just think that that is going to be a really, really nice West Coast game.
They, as like I said about Pitt,
which I might be wrong about, but like I said about Pitt last week,
I'm positive the Aves are going to make the playoffs.
Yeah.
You do not want to see the ads in the playoffs.
You cannot.
McKinnon's back to being a freak.
I really like it.
I really like it.
Okay, here's a couple for me.
I got two Thursdays for everybody.
Jets at Leifes, great game.
Two really strong teams.
I'm really happy about that.
And Jersey at Seattle, two really strong teams.
I'm really happy about that game.
Those are going to be a lot of fun.
We're really stroking off the crack.
They're 8 straight.
That's true.
They deserve it.
And then here's the big one.
Monday night.
Columbus at Calgary.
the return of Johnny Hockey.
Oh, that's the first time
all year. Yep.
Wow.
I cannot wait for the reception.
It's got to be good, right?
I mean, I know they're pissed at him,
but it's like, it's got to be good.
There's got to be video tributes and everyone happy.
Well, I imagine there'll be video tributes,
but I'm not sure if everyone in that barn is going to be happy.
There's some bad blood there.
They do not like any left.
I know, I know, but I just think you got to,
he didn't have to stay.
He gave you them great, great times, and you need to thank him for that.
I'm a Johnny supporter and a Johnny Apologist, but...
The return of Johnny hockey Monday night, everybody.
All right, we'll tune into those games and enjoy that Bobby Ryan interview as much as we did.
We hope so.
He's just one hell of a guy.
And that's it for us today at the Empty Netters podcast.
Shout out Costa Vita Mexican Grill.
Shout out Costa Vita Mexican Grill.
That's a spot.
All right, guys, we'll catch you next time.
Thank you.
