Starting point is 00:00:00 Before we get into this next episode of the Empty Netters podcast with Nashville Predators' Defensman Dante Fabro, we've got to hear from our unbelievable sponsors, ECHO Tequila Soda. I got to say I have a story for ECHO Tequila Soda. I've been over here preaching the good word of EchO tequila soda. All of the amazing bonuses and pluses about it. Hit me down the list, Chris. Listen, Dan, there are no carbs. There is no sugar.
Starting point is 00:00:27 There is no gluten. A lot of people are wondering if people are. are actually asking me if there is no gluten, and I got news for those people. That's the number one thing I get asked. We're in L.A. baby. Nothing has gluten. Neither does the best tequila soda in the game. It only has 96 calories. That is a fact. Made down in Mexico with blue agave tequila. The stuff is the best, and I've been preaching, it's the best to drink watching the game. It's the best to drink on the beach. It's the best to drink over some rocks at home. Whatever you want to do. What I did this weekend is drinking on the slopes while skiing.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And I've been a pretty hard beer guy, I think, I've always been like, when I'm on the chairlift and I'm gas and a beer, it's, or gas and a drink, it's best to be a beer. But I brought a few cases of ECHO. Never will I go back. I'm going to drink ECHO when I'm skiing every single time. Because when you're drinking beer, I feel like something with the altitude. The carbonation gets way too intense and it's just, it's a lot. It's heavy. But ECHA tequila soda is not heavy.
Starting point is 00:01:23 It's light. Like you said, it's under 100 calories per can. And I was just smashing these things back. And just like when we were down in Florida for the All-Star game, people were asking for them left and right. First, ECHO changes the tequila soda game forever, then they change skiing forever. So if you want to get on this train and add ECHO Tijuana into your ski trips, you're going to go to SIP-E-E-C-H-O dot com.
Starting point is 00:01:48 You're going to find the store locator, figure out where is the closest place you can pick this up or save yourself some time and save yourself some money when you put in promo code Netters, N-E-T-T-E-R asset checkout, and it'll get delivered right. to your door. Drink some etcho on the slopes. Be a smart person. Now let's get into the show. Another fucking activity you do and don't invite me to.
Starting point is 00:02:14 This one was planned by his girlfriend, so don't get mad at me. Oh, how was that? It was awesome. I broke up with her. I'm serious. Yeah, I said, I'm better than you. I know you didn't do that. You don't deserve me.
Starting point is 00:02:28 I know you did not do that. I hate all your friends. What did you do for Valentine's Day? Did you do anything special for her? I got her card while we were skiing, which was on the 12th. And I had flowers delivered. What is so funny? That against I got her a card while we were skiing is just like a funny statement to say that you did for valence.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Because I knew I was going to see her. And then I had flowers delivered to her house. That's really sweet. Yesterday morning. It is sweet. You want to hear something sad? Yeah. We've never had a Valentine.
Starting point is 00:02:58 This has to be in the episode, by the way. That's fine. Okay. We've never had a valentine. Valentine. Can I tell you something? Yeah. You're missing less than nothing.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I'm sure. It's you're saving money. Well, actually. You aren't saving money. She's missing out on chocolates and flowers and dinners. She's missing out on a lot. I know. But you can buy yourself flowers just like Miley.
Starting point is 00:03:18 I know. But, you know, it's always nice to get a little flower here and there. Should we get a retroactive Valentine's Day gift? Yeah, why didn't you? Also, you know what I thought about this morning? You told me you were getting me an empty netter sweatshers. months ago and you never gave me one. Because it's still coming from Legends.
Starting point is 00:03:38 We haven't got out. After months? Yeah, it's a big order. Okay. You're getting one. You're getting a pair of shorts. I do. Dark chocolate?
Starting point is 00:03:46 No. Oh, wow. Milk chocolate. Yeah. We're going to go to a team Valentine's Day brunch, lunch, dinner, whatever you want. You can't yell at us this time. I promise I won't.
Starting point is 00:03:56 I really need a drink in my system because I've gone an entire 10 days without drinking because it was on antibiotics. Yeah, we got to get you a drink. We can fix that. But we got to find out it's going to be a... I'm actually triggered. Let's keep it nice.
Starting point is 00:04:11 We're going to just get a drink and keep it nice. Okay, well, we, yeah, like, keep it nice. We actually, I feel like we've gotten through all of our issues and... No, no. No, no, no. Oh, shit. We're going to get one drink in and everyone's going to be checking us out. You scumbed, pieces of shit.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Oh, okay. Well, we got the Valentine's Day stuff out of the way. Here we are with a new episode. We got a great guest today in Dante Fabro. Absolute beauty. What a cool guy. Can't wait to go to his sister's wedding. It's going to be a phenomenal two nights.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Family dinner. Wedding dinner. I can't wait. Yeah. I mean, we're going to have a home-cooked Italian meal from his mom. You guys are so weird. Nothing better. Before we get into that, we're going to get into some hot ice.
Starting point is 00:04:55 We're going to start it off with something a little bit sad. It was announced the other day Alex Hvechkin was leaving the team due to personal reasons. And then he posted on his Instagram that very, very sadly, his father, Mikhail has passed away. So we want to just send some condolences to the entire Vechan family, specifically Ovi.
Starting point is 00:05:13 We love you. That's just a brutal thing to go through during the season. So all of our thoughts and prayers with him and the family. Breaks my heart that he won't get to see Ovi break Gretzky's record. But you had pointed out, Dan, that I love so much that he got to see
Starting point is 00:05:28 Ovi and Sergei on the ice together at the All-Star game. You know, no one can live forever, but he got some awesome memories along the way. I thought that was a really cool thing. The Ovi and Sergei at the All-Star game was such a blast, so cool to see. And I think that Mikhail probably loved that. And I do like that he has passed knowing that Ovi will bring. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Like, that's cool. Like, he knows that. There's that record I chirped earlier in the year, like, most goals for one team. Yeah. Pass, Gordy Howe. I'm now like, thank God. Thank God that happened. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:00 So true. So true. So yeah, again, it's thoughts and prayers and just sending some love to Ovi and the family. Let's get into some trade talk real quick. We're going to get into this episode in this interview with Dante, but just need to talk some trade stuff. Since our last episode, it broke that Vladimir Teresenko traded to the Rangers, like we said, for the record, scores immediately. First game gets a tuck. Playing with Panarin.
Starting point is 00:06:23 For sure. Yeah, first shot. You're right. Playing with Panarin. Panarin scores a four-goal game. The rags are a problem now. I legitimately am terrified of them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:34 It's a, it's a, this trade is a Chris Drury masterclass. The Rangers have kind of been this pretty good team in the Met, but never at the top of the Met. Everyone kind of looked at it at them out. Yeah, you're probably a first, second round exit from the playoffs, but they've got to be a top four, top five favorite for the Cup now. And, and there's talks that maybe they're adding more. It's, yeah, I don't totally believe that. Neither do I. But they are, they were a.
Starting point is 00:07:01 we all expected them to be good again. I thought they would regress a little bit. They started, they started pretty hot like five games in. And then completely cooled off for a significant stretch. And then they went on the quietest, whatever it was, 24 and 4 run I've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Like all of a sudden they were the best team in hockey. And then they add Vlad. And I'm like, okay, you guys are out for blood. Yeah, it's crazy. They're a big time issue for teams in the East now. And keep your eye on that. because they're going to start surge in here.
Starting point is 00:07:33 The next name, you know, we did our full Eastern Western Conference trade breakdowns, so we're not going to get into that, but what we are going to get into is Jacob Chikrin. Jacob Chikrin has been health bombed by the Yotes, and they have announced that he will not play again until he's traded. So the next time you're going to see Chichron, it's going to be in a New Jersey. It's going to be in a Leif's jersey. I think it's going to be in a King's Jersey. I see Chikrin go into L.A. I think it's close.
Starting point is 00:07:57 He's right in the west. He's going to just pop up from Arizona over to L.A. I think he fits on that blue line so perfectly. It's all a matter of what Blake can put together and send over to Arizona because I think there's at least six teams calling them right now. Yeah. And like I said, you got Chickren for two more years after this year at 4.6 mil or something like that and he is a 60-70 point guy as a defenseman. If he doesn't get two first round picks, I'll be shocked. He's going to, though.
Starting point is 00:08:26 That's the only concern. I'll be absolutely shocked. So if you're the Kings, I think the first. big question is, are you willing to cough up two first round picks to get him and really pump up that blue line? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. That's kind of what we were talking about with the Leafs and Dubis is I don't, I see them not caring about splurging because they're like, we have to win literally right now.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Yeah. Whereas if you're the Kings and you're kind of on the up and I'm like, calm down. Like you don't need to like blow up. This is a two three years process. Picks. Like you're, you're going to be very good for a long time, you hope. So it's like, don't give up picks. But, but you have him under.
Starting point is 00:09:00 contract for a couple years. Like it's... Well, and today, Mikey Anderson of the Kings just signed an eight-year deal. New eight-year extension, 4.1-mill AAV. So there they go. Looking at their blue line, you got Dowdy getting a little bit older. You got Dersey, who's a young stud. Now you lock up, Mikey.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Do you make a trade for Chickren and have your top four D locked up for the next three years? It's not a bad call because, as you know, the listeners don't yet, but I'm such a little prospect slut. Like, anytime the team has prospects or picks, I'm like, those are automatic Hall of Famers, and that's just not the case. Ever. So sometimes it's like,
Starting point is 00:09:35 no, trade the unknown prospects and picks for a certified star, you moron. You think anyone will take Matt Nees? Do you think anyone will take what? I don't know how to pronounce his last name. You don't know about this person? I'm concerned. He's not pro yet.
Starting point is 00:09:53 Oh, Maddie Nyes. Nyes. Maddie Nyes. You're asking if they're going to draft him? Yeah. Nope. I think he's going to go undrafted. He's going to be playing in beer league with me on Wednesday nights this time next year.
Starting point is 00:10:05 How do you know about this? Because I'm genius. Do you, I love this. This is a, we haven't really talked prospect of, I know. I'm doing my research. I'm doing my research. What do you got for us? That was it.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Oh, okay. Where do you think he goes? Maple Leafs. I love that. Snipe, all right. Well, obviously not, but I fucking hope to God that happens. that would be amazing. Also, I tried to sound confident there. I have no idea if that's how we pronounce his name. But so we're going to... Yeah, what if it's knees and I'm correct. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:10:37 where, well, you'll have to do me a favor and edit that out. Yeah. But I think it's nice. I have no idea. Anyway, it's great stuff. Uh, okay, so we'll see what happens with Chickran. What do you think about Kane? Yeah. All right. That's the next thing I want to talk about. So Patrick Kane, you know, we talked about there's a chance that maybe he just sticks around in Chicago, but this Vladimir Tarasenko trade happens and Kane gets interviewed and he was but her. Yeah, he was like, listen, that is a team. If I were to talk about getting traded, that's a team I would have wanted to go to or end up on. And then he even went as far as to say he feels like his, it's a hip injury?
Starting point is 00:11:12 Yeah. He was, he feels like Chicago is kind of pumping up this hip injury more than it is, which is a little sketchy. Don't like that there's any weirdness or bad blood going on with Kane's possible exit. But yeah, the question now becomes, does Kane go? it looks like and sounds like the Rangers were his definite number one choice but if he does go where does he go now we've heard things like
Starting point is 00:11:36 Carolina we've heard things like Edmonton Toronto is getting a lot of buzz biz nasty is really branded hockey gods for that one I still have my heart set on Buffalo but I need Buffalo to not fucking be 0 and 3 recently to get there but
Starting point is 00:11:55 I genuinely I have no idea where Kane's going to wind up. I think Carolina makes sense. I think Carolina is that like
Starting point is 00:12:04 they need to make a big move. Carolina needs to make a win now move. And I think Tim O'Meyer makes sense there.
Starting point is 00:12:14 But again, sorry, we're not going to talk all about trades. This is about Kane. He's not going anywhere. That's the good news.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Yeah, I'm starting to think maybe he doesn't go anywhere. I think it's, from him, it might have been Rangers or nothing.
Starting point is 00:12:25 But we'll see. He'll be a hawk. I got two said things for you to just close out hot nice okay first thing um for there was a really cool athletic article of the athletic dot com you need a paywall you're to get past the paywall so if you guys don't have it sorry but check it out um they did this thing for the melb the NFL and the nbae called the three letter acronym 99 and it's like the best players uh in the or it's actually 100 for them but hockey
Starting point is 00:12:52 they did 99 because they all admitted gretsky was one but anyway basically they released this article for the top 100 players post-1967 expansion. That's fun that it's the Gretzky. They all agreed he's unanimous number one, so they went 99 and that's Gretzky's then. That's really fun. So, do you like that?
Starting point is 00:13:08 Yeah. Thank you. So it's post-67, okay, which means no Gordy Howe. He's not going to be on this list, so people don't freak out. Also,
Starting point is 00:13:15 you had to have played 400 games by the end of the 21-22 season. So, like, Austin Matthews had played 407. He counts, but Kale McCarr is not in this list, okay? Everybody check it out. a cool list, but I would love to embrace debate here. And I'm just going to read the top 10.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Wayne, Mario, Bobby Orr, Sid, Yager, Ovi, Hasick, Lidstrom, Phil Esposito, Ray Bork. Okay. Um, I think
Starting point is 00:13:49 I don't have that many issues with this. Me personally, I put Bobby Or above Mario. Whoa, you're about to get lit up for that. I'll get lampooned for that, but he's, I, I do it. Sid is too high. Sorry, so is Ovi. Sid and Ovi are both too high. They are four and five on that.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Four and six. Who is after Sid? Yager. Yeah, I mean, come on, dude. I'm not saying that they won't end up as better, but Yager, I would say Ray Bork is arguably. Better than Yager? No, better than Sid and Ovi. You're telling me that right now you're going to say Sid and Ovi are better.
Starting point is 00:14:27 than Ray Bork. Raymond Bork. It's fair because you're like, I want to be like, well, Sid's got all the cups, but Ray has a cup, Ovi has a cup, Ray has every defensive record ever. And, but I mean, Ovi, dude, he's the best score of all time.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Everyone on the list, though, I'm cool. I think that's a great list. So check out the whole thing, you too. It's actually a fascinating list. Okay, and then the second Sid thing, the penguins were in L.A. Friday playing the ducks. They beat the ducks.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Then they came up Saturday and got pounded by the kings. on Dustin Brown night. Shout out Brownie. Everybody go watch Chill on the Far Blue right now. Yes, guys, go to the King's YouTube page,
Starting point is 00:15:03 watch our episodes with Kevin Fiala and Dustin Brown, chilling at the Far Blue. It's absolute blast. We got two more episodes coming out as well. Continue.
Starting point is 00:15:11 So they got pumped, like 6-0. Kempi had four, as you pointed out. And then they had, they weren't playing till, what is it today, Wednesday?
Starting point is 00:15:18 They weren't playing until yesterday against the sharks, the penguin. So they were just chilling in Los Angeles, doing nothing, watching the Super Bowl here. And Dan and I were
Starting point is 00:15:26 out of town this weekend. I got back, landed LAX on Sunday, and a bunch of my buddies were texting us that they were at the Yeold King's Head, which is this tiny little soccer bar in Santa Monica, and the entire Penguins team was in there drinking, and everyone got their picture with Sid, except me, and I might KMS. And we were on a plane hungover back from Colorado. Andy got a pick. Are you jealous? And I was not really. I mean... Oh, please. Well, I was like, that's sick, but I wasn't freaking out about it. And... Dan is internally freaking out. He's gonna say out loud. He was legitimately hung over and miserable on this plane and then found that out and I thought
Starting point is 00:16:02 he was going to crash the plane. I'm a big when you're getting off a plane, like sit down until it's your aisle's turn. Like I hate everyone that jumping up in the aisle being freaked. I'm sitting in the aisle like pretty far back, you know. And I see that my phone like turns back on. I see those texts. I'm literally, I was up like pushing old ladies back into their seat. Sit the fuck down.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Sit is at King's Head. Everybody sit down. I wanted the pilot to just taxi to Kingshead. Did you try to get there? Take the emergency ramp out right there. By the time I got there, they were gone. You got there. Yeah, we went and they were gone.
Starting point is 00:16:30 I didn't go. He went alone. And just, like, he sent us a picture. Dan's like the type of person's like, I'm too cool for that. I went with my shirt. I like actually have personal friends on the team so like I can just meet up with them whenever I want. That's exactly Dan. That's me.
Starting point is 00:16:43 That's exactly who you are. I went with a Sharpie. I went with a Sharpie. I went with a Sharpie. I'm like, just like, text them later and like go out with them later. It's so fine. That was actually me talking. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:51 I went with the Sharpie and my Sid T-shirt. Yeah. As is my right. That's your right and that's being a real human being. Chris goes like this. Can you fucking believe Andy got to talk to Crosby? And I was like, you talked to him last weekend. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:08 I don't know what the jealousy was going on, but I think you just wanted to be in a bar chilling. Oh my God. I had a vodka soda, vodka water. He would have been on the pot right now. I hate my life so much. Oh, don't say that. That would kill me. I'll never recover from this.
Starting point is 00:17:22 Yeah. That's a big deal. All right. Let's get into how to see. me over there. I would have like schmooze him on the other pot. Yeah, you need to be our in more often. Nobody invites me fucking anywhere. Hey,
Starting point is 00:17:32 hey, a question for you. Are you here this again? Yes. Do you want to come to the golf tournament with us? Yes. Let's go. We'll buy you your ticket.
Starting point is 00:17:40 We'll go. We'll gas some beers watching some golf. Oh, okay. Great. I finally have Valentine's dates. Yay. You got to come, though. I will.
Starting point is 00:17:49 All right. Before we get into the interview, let's quickly rip our hottest teams of the week. I have one. Oh, Emily's hottest team of the week. Yes. I don't even have it in front of me, which so bear with me here. But my hottest team of the week this week is the Devils.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Whoa. And it's because they hit a record last night. Did you know that? No. No, tell us about it. They were the quickest. I don't know how to word this, but I think this is correct. I don't have it in front of me.
Starting point is 00:18:19 But they were the quickest to win 20 road games. Cool stat. I believe that. I didn't know that. We have brought them up. Let me confirm that though. We brought them up in the past and I showed you that I was like, the devils are like 15 and 1 on the road and like 500 at home.
Starting point is 00:18:34 It's clean it up. Quickest in NHL history to 20 wins on the road. That's sick, Emily. That's a great stat. Devils are not in our top three hottest teams of the week, but they're definitely number four because of that. Well, now they are because I want to give some quick quacks to the devils set road record in victory against Kings. There you go.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Yeah. Become first team in NHL history to win 17 of first 20 games away. from home. Let's fucking go. Our third hottest team of the week is the Detroit Red Wings. They lost their first game back to the Oilers. But since then, they've ripped off three straight.
Starting point is 00:19:04 They beat the Flames 2-1. The Canucks back-to-back scores of 5 to 2 and then 6 to 1. They had three more on the road coming up, oilers slams and cracking. Tough stretch, but they look great. Gonna see if they can keep going. Happy to see them in hottest teams of the week.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Oh, my God. I love the wings. Number two, the Vegas Golden Knights, undefeated since the All-Star break. They beat Nashville 5-1, the Wild 5-1, and the Duck 7-2. I got bad news, everybody. Vegas is scoring goals again.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Jack is scoring goals again. This team started very hot, then cooled off significantly with a lot of injuries and a lot of shit going on. But they are still dangerous if they figured out and get in the playoffs. And I'm loving it. Jack is back. The Knights are back. And then our number one hottest team of the week, speaking of undefeated since the break, the blue shirts, New York Rangers, added Vladimir Teresenko. They're 4 and 0.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Beat the flames, beat the Canucks, beat the Crack and beat the Canes, all very good teams. I mean, other than the Canucks. Sorry. Sorry, Vancouver. You stink. But yeah, they added Bad Vlad. Panarin scoring four goals a game. This team is just terrifying. I don't want to run into them at all if I'm any team in the East. Unbelievable stuff.
Starting point is 00:20:06 All right. Let's kick it now to our interview with Dante Fabro of the Nashville Predators. Fucking awesome guy. All right. Well, here we are today. We're joined by a British Columbia native, 17th overall pick by the Nashville Predators in the 2016 draft. World Junior's gold medalist, former BU Terrier captain, Dante Fabro,
Starting point is 00:20:26 welcome to the Empty Netters podcast. What's up, boys? Glad to be here. Thanks for asking me to come on. Dude, we're pumped to have you. I'm glad we could make time in the golf schedule to fit you in because it's tough to break into that. It's tough to break into that.
Starting point is 00:20:42 It's even our schedule right now. I mean, it seems like we almost not this month, but next start next month. It's like we've got a game almost every other day. So it's starting to ramp up here pretty quick. Yeah, it feels like playoffs, right? Like you guys are going so often. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Yeah, I mean, just especially with, you know, where our team's at in the standings right now. So it's a bit of a race right now to get into, you know, a playoff position. You know, we lost a tough one last night. But, you know, I think just the way that our team's going right now, it's, we're definitely trending in the right direction. We're playing the right way. And so I just got to find a way to win some games. Yeah, no doubt. When you were T and off, did you play at the troupe yesterday?
Starting point is 00:21:25 Yeah, yeah, I've been fortunate off, obviously, with Dutchie and, you know, Yos and Johansen and a couple of those boys having places out there. So then obviously kind of enough to get some of us out there a few times. And, I mean, that place is just, it's a piece of paradise. It's honestly, it's like you go out there, it's like it doesn't even feel like it's reality. So, I mean, just people you meet the course itself, the way you're treated. Second and on, honestly. Who did you play with yesterday? Yeah, were you with any of the boys on the team or are you with just some buddies?
Starting point is 00:22:00 I was with Johansen, myself, Sizzins, and Niderider. So me and, me and Nino were a team, took down Joey and Cislet yesterday. So got a nice free hat out of the deal. And, you know, yeah, we. typically in the summers, but maybe play for a little bit more money, or money, I should say, but yeah, just we played for a hat and that was kind of it. The games are just warming up right now. So I think you play for a hat in February.
Starting point is 00:22:29 You know, you start playing for cash in June. That's fine. Yeah, after the season, I think that's when the floodgates open. Is Joey a stick? Is he good? Yeah, Joe's, I think Joe, when he's playing all summer, he plays to like a one cap. Oh my God. He's, yeah, he's, I think he grew up playing golf like a little bit competitively too.
Starting point is 00:22:53 So, I mean, you can just tell like the way he plays and shots he makes. It seems pretty seamless and effortless. So, I mean, it's hard to kind of even like watch him how to hit a ball because he's got an open stance. Like, just, it's just kind of everything against what I can do. Yeah, it's different, but plays a cut pretty much all the time. And it seems to work for him. it's like I said it's just hard it's it's hard for somebody to try and pick up tips from him because he's just so good yeah that's my one of my most frustrating things with golf when you play with someone who knows what they're
Starting point is 00:23:28 doing and you watch it you're just like why can't i do that and if you try to emulate it it just goes even worse so it's just a full disaster for me every time yeah i mean you know it is it's like it's a it's a game of practice right like if you're not out there at least a couple times a week or hitting balls or something like that like get out there it's you know it's it's pretty nerve wracking standing over a ball with you know hazards all around you right so um yeah i think this is summertime that's the time to do it so uh typically i just go to the gym or and skate in the mornings and head up to the course and you know go play golf all day i got kind of really no responsibilities no girlfriend no kids no nothing so just my family and that's kind of it so i go up with a couple
Starting point is 00:24:10 buddies and just go play some golf. Take it. Take a joy, my man. The thing that drives me to the most crazy. I know. I don't put in the reps, dude. Like, I literally will take months off from golf, then show up, and I shank my first tee shot and snap my club and half.
Starting point is 00:24:22 And everyone's like, why do you think you were good? Like, you haven't hit a ball in two months. Obviously, this was going bad. Yeah. Yeah. It's shocker that you're mad at yourself. Yeah. I get pissed.
Starting point is 00:24:31 I can't think of a better thing to do on Valentine's Day when you're single is going to playing 36 holes of golf. Like, that's about as good as it gets. I mean. Oh, I was. I mean, it was great. Well, all those guys have girlfriends, but Nino's girls still in Europe, like over in Switzerland. Ryan's girlfriend is on like a retreat.
Starting point is 00:24:54 I don't even know how to call it, like, a retreat in Africa that, like, helps AIDS with, like, kids and stuff like that. But I think she's doing more with, like, mothers with kids and teaching them how to nurse properly. And then, I think, Colton's girl was in, I think, Dallas, you know, for work and stuff like that. that. So they were all kind of free for the day. And I had nothing going on. Yeah, exactly. Literally, I couldn't have asked for a better, better day. It was awesome to be out there. How was the Super Bowl party? Were you down at the almost Friday bar? Yeah, that was actually, it was my first time down there. That place is awesome, by the way. Not a bad spot, right? No, it was great. We had, so we had like the little room kind of off to the left when you first walk in. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Yeah, and we were in there, just ordered a bunch of food and whatnot. And I had the chiefs going all the way. I don't know what you guys had, but I'm a huge Mahomes fan and Kelsey. I love those guys. So I think I was pretty happy at the end of it. I don't know what you guys thought. How he just, like, you know, they were placing that game where Hertz is like scrambling all over the field, hitting third and 18 up the sideline.
Starting point is 00:26:03 He almost looked like he was in control, but you just knew deep down in your bones that Mahomes was going to win. Like, as it got close, I was like, I know, patty's taking this down because that's just what he does yeah oh i mean he's a stud i actually talking to my buddy one of like he's kind of an artist in town and um he was saying it was gonna they're gonna win by a field goal i was like there's absolutely there's no way like it's it's gonna be more than that it's either gonna go it's gonna be lopsided one way or the other and you know of course he gets it and gets guesses it right and um i think he had kansas city winning too so
Starting point is 00:26:35 dude one of our boys uh here at the company he was down at the bar with you guys, probably just outside, he had a massive bet on McKinnon's scoring in any form. And when McKinnon took that slide to let the clock bleed off, I thought he was going to kill himself. Like he was legitimately like, oh my God. Oh, no. Oh, yeah. Like it was at the very end of the game there? Yeah. Like all he needed was McKinning to get in in any way, shape, or form. And then McKinnon makes the highest IQ play of all time and just slides at the goal line. Dude, I know someone who was playing squares. and they had KC2, Philly 5 was their Super Bowl square. And if he goes in there, that's how it finishes.
Starting point is 00:27:16 And then he slides. They take the field goal and they lost squares. Oh, my God. Oh, that's poor, poor guy. Oh, man. Gambling is so brutal, man. I can't. Like, those beats are scripted, it feels like.
Starting point is 00:27:28 It's unbelievable. Oh, Jesus. Just like Edelman said, they just grab a script in the halftime. Yeah, exactly. Right. So true. Yeah, I mean, when he says that, I'm kind of like, it honestly feels that way.
Starting point is 00:27:40 It's rolling all Eagles first half and then second half the game completely flips. And it's like, well, yeah. State Farm Arena dude, obviously they had to have Mahomes win it, you know, tinfoil hat. Here we go. Okay, Fabs, I'm going to ask you. We're going to start you off with the most important question you're going to be asked all day,
Starting point is 00:27:58 maybe all month, maybe all year. Do the boys actually listen to Nickelback in the locker room? Yeah, we can, we can thank Joe Hanson for that. that. Oh shit. Do you like it or do you hate it? Yeah. I mean, I don't mind it. I'm a big fan of like that old rock and everything.
Starting point is 00:28:19 I mean, Nickelback, it's got some big hits and stuff like that. But definitely the guy who brought it back, you know, into the locker and was definitely Johanson. You just play it all the time. That, Shania Twain, maybe Cheryl Crow or something like that. But yeah, it was for sure him who brought it back. I love some of those country. gals. But yeah, Dutching told us we were talking
Starting point is 00:28:40 about Nickelback with Dutchie. He was like, yeah, we listened to the whole team listens to it in the locker room. And I was like, I can't tell him pushing this narrative or if that was real. No, you guys, you guys are single-handedly bringing nickelback back to mainstream popularity. And it's God's work, truly, what you're doing. It's unbelievable. I mean, just have a listen. If nobody's listening to them, you got to, you got to. I mean, it's
Starting point is 00:29:00 at this point, they're an icon. Yeah. They have smash it. Damn right. If you were locker room DJ, Thabs, what are you playing? I'm not normally. So, honestly anything like I'm I'm pretty easy going with music so I don't really have a genre I hate or dislike and so as long as it's good and you know I can kind of sing along or whatnot I'm fine with it there's obviously some rap songs that I have absolutely no idea what they're saying but uh it's a good beat and you know the boys are liking it then I'll deal with it yeah if it gets people moving it
Starting point is 00:29:35 sometimes you just need the head bob for you know then you're going um dude we're uh new england guys and big college hockey people. So wanted to ask you, you obviously, you know, when you're back home in BC, you get drafted by the Thunderbirds in the WHL and you decide to skip out, stay in the BCHL because you wanted to commit to NCAA, keep your eligibility, you went to BU. Was that something that was always on the radar for you? Did you always want to play college hockey? Was it a tough decision to skip out on the WHL?
Starting point is 00:30:06 How did that process go? You know what? It was actually really hard. You know, in my head, I wanted to play in the dub, but I think I got, you know, a little bit pressured for my dad to keep my options open and kind of see how my six-year-old year in Penticton will play out, and then you can kind of make a decision after that. And so I ended up doing it, and I had an absolute blast that year,
Starting point is 00:30:30 and kind of got to know a little bit more about the NCAA Road. Yeah, so I would say, like, yeah, my dad definitely pushed me a little bit more towards college. But, you know, from day one, I, you know, really wanted to go to Seattle. I had one of my best buddies, Barzell that was drafted there. We grew up together and played with each other. So it was a bit of a hard decision to say no. But, yeah, I think as soon as I turned my focus to go to college and get to, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:59 going on all my official visits, was able to pick a top five, kind of the top five schools I wanted to go to. And obviously, BU kind of fell on my lap and went down there to go visit. I met with Coach Quinn and kind of saw the talent they had coming in and who they had there already. And I figured it would kind of put me in the best situation possible to, you know, obviously pursue the NHL. And, you know, with obviously BU, B&BU, they get a ton of exposure, you know, kind of throughout, you know, college hockey and whatnot. So I think, yeah, I think it was a pretty easy decision for myself to go there. I know it's across the country for probably hard travel for my parents.
Starting point is 00:31:39 thinking about it, but, you know, they were able to make it out a few times. Yeah. Was that an issue for you at all? Like when it looked like BU was going to be the one you went to, were you at all rattled about shit? It's all the way across the continent in a new country. Or were you just kind of like, no, this is a cool experience, a cool little adventure heading over to Boston? Yeah, no. I mean, I don't, I never get homesick or anything like that. Like, I've always been, you know, pretty, you know, I've moved away when I was 16 to go play junior hockey. You know, I've been traveling lots just with, you know, minor hockey tournaments and whatnot. And, yeah, I've never been homesick in my entire life. I just figured if, you know,
Starting point is 00:32:19 I'm going to make a decision. I want to make it for the best interest myself. And, you know, obviously it sucks that, you know, it's far away from my family, but sometimes you got to do things they might not agree with, but I do. And, you know, it was a conversation I had had with my parents and all this stuff. And ultimately it was my decision and decided to go there. My dad, I was talking to Denver at the time too, but my dad obviously would have wanted me to go to Denver a little easier flights coming down from BC. But yeah, but you know what?
Starting point is 00:32:51 It ended up working out in the end. And, you know, I'm happy with my decision and, you know, kind of where I'm out. Yeah, you had a fucking unreal career there, dude. And, like, absolute weapons on that team. Like, you played with some awesome guys in that B.U squad. that's so much fun. Yeah, I was a little disappointing my first year just with everyone we had, losing in that regional final there. Sucked, especially with the way it was.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Like, we actually played, we were in Fargo my first year, and we played North Dakota. So it was just sold out with Nodak fans. And they scored an overtime, but it was an offside. Goal got called back. And then we ended up scoring to knock them out in the semis. And then we played, I think it was Duluth. the next game and we took a penalty in overtime and they ended up scoring. So it was just a crappy way to end.
Starting point is 00:33:42 And I mean, the next year we lost to Michigan in the same game. Yeah. And broke it, broke it, tried, D-Man tried to make a pass, broke a stick, guy picks it up off the shin padden and in the net. So it was just sucks. Like college hockey with those single game knockouts, it's hard to get to that frozen four. Yeah, those are two crippling ways to lose too. Getting a penalty in overtime is just like, swallow the whistle ref.
Starting point is 00:34:08 Let the boys finish it out. That's so brutal. And then the broken stick just. Yeah, it was. God damn. Yeah, it was tough. But that, it was a lot of fun. I mean, that Nodak game was probably one of the funer games I played in.
Starting point is 00:34:20 I mean, their fans are just insane. I mean, it was close, obviously close. Fargo being close to North Dakota and everything. So the rink was obviously way smaller. But we had one kid that got put through. the glass, glass shattered in like the first period. Like the place was going bananas. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. That'll set the tone. Jesus. Oh, yeah. Do you, do you remember the other top five? He said doing me Denver, but do you remember where else you were looking at? Yeah, I was,
Starting point is 00:34:50 I was looking at Denver, Wisconsin, B, C, B, U, and University of Minnesota. I mean, there's obviously, there's obviously a couple other schools that I would like to go visit, but I kind of had to narrowed down to five just for my official visit reasons. But yeah, I just felt, I think I felt most at home at BU and Denver was definitely a close second. That was probably the two hardest schools I was trying to decide between. But like I said, I was happy with my decision and got to meet a lot of great friends and buddies on that team and that we still keep in contact with. Hell yeah, dude. So, you know, you look back at it. It's like hockey East champs, right? 2018. You're like second team all hockey East twice. You're named Captain of BU. It's amazing. I guess maybe minus the Natty. Got to be just about everything you wanted out of college. And bean pot. Never want a bean pot. Okay. Yes. I'm going to say we got to, like it's very, I was the only thing. I was going to say, so I hate to do this too. It's uncomfortable to bring up. We got to talk about the bean pot. But it just happened, right? The finals were on Monday. We were all watching. We like Dan said, Bean, Bean, Bean, we love that. We love that. We're going to be in New England boys. We love that. We love that. We're just. We're just going to do it. We're the bean pot. We used to go every year with our parents because it was such a great ticket, right? Go down to the garden and check the games out. First of all, I saw a tweet the other day.
Starting point is 00:36:04 I put on this on the internet. This was the first time. The bean pot was happening for 70 years. The same four teams play in the tournament for 70 years. This was the first time it was ever Northeastern Harvard in the final. Isn't that ridiculous? Yeah, I actually, somebody was saying that to me in the locker room today. I can't remember or the other day. Yeah, that's, I mean, that's an insane stat. when you think about it, really. It doesn't make sense. I mean, I guess in like the 90s, early 2000s, Harvard and Northeastern weren't as much of a wagon as they are now.
Starting point is 00:36:36 But it still doesn't make sense. Statistically, it feels impossible. But anyway, sick tournament as it always is. Northeastern takes down Harvard in the shootout. I don't know if you got to watch. It was a pretty cool game. So we had to ask you, you know, first year, I think Harvard clips you in the final. Next year, Northeastern clips you in the final.
Starting point is 00:36:52 The next year, you lose to both, Northeastern then Harvard. So as frustrating as that was, can you tell us how cool the tournament was and what it was like to be a part of that? Yeah, I think my first year, kind of walking into that whole experience was kind of surreal. I think it was probably one of my first times playing in like kind of the in the garden actually and just getting a feel of the Boston sports scene and whatnot. And actually kind of funny story, I was actually taking my pregame nap the morning of the first game and slept in a little late before meeting and kind of got reamed out by Quinny after that. And I was actually terrified. I thought he was going to scratch me and I was done.
Starting point is 00:37:39 I wasn't going to play. And so, yeah, I was just, ended up sleeping in. And, you know, I'm just walking out, just freaking out, nervous. And I'm like, oh, here we go. And then he pulls me aside. He's like, pretty much what the hell happened? And I was like, honestly, I'm straight up. I slept in.
Starting point is 00:37:56 I slept through my alarm. I apologize, blah, blah. And, you know, thank God he let me play in that and kind of get to experience that. But, yeah, it sucked. I mean, first year, Harvard kind of dominated us in that final there. And then northeastern, just out of nowhere, it turned into this team that we just couldn't beat. Like, they were just with the fours and the D they had.
Starting point is 00:38:18 It just seemed like we were kind of there. but, you know, they just had that extra push all, every game that we, we played them, and they would score a couple more goals. And so it's just kind of hard to play catch up at that point. Dude, I was reading, too, that it's like, and I'm sure this is so fun reliving this. So sorry, but I was reading it. It was like, I was going to say, this is fucking brutal. I'm going to turn my camera off.
Starting point is 00:38:40 I don't want to be a part of this. So, Don, Dave, for you, I would be like, fuck this tournament. I can't stand it. Those teams piss me off. It's so brutal. Because you have in the, in the, you know, in the, you know, in the, Rosen 4, you guys get these brutal beats every time. And then when I was reading about the beanpot losses, it's like, and then, you know,
Starting point is 00:38:57 in 2017, Harvard beats BU for Harvard's first title in 11 years. And then like the next year, Northeastern, same thing. Like, Northeastern beats BU for their first title in a million years. And you've got to be like, dude, fucking leave us alone. My God. Yeah, it was, it was crazy. Like, I really wanted one. And we were so close twice.
Starting point is 00:39:15 And then my third year, obviously, we lost the first game. And, yeah, it was. frustrating. That's something that, you know, I wanted to experience, especially being at B.U with, you know, the, you know, the history behind it and behind with the school and how many times they've wanted. And I kind of wanted to put my name in that kind of category. I know everyone on the team did too. And it just, yeah, it was just unfortunate we weren't able to get it done. Dude, so you're just talking about your junior year. This is something I'm always fascinated by.
Starting point is 00:39:47 You're a junior at B.U. having another amazing year. Like, like we said, in the team, then NHL playoffs roll around and boom, you're just pulled in, playing in the NHL, you know, you're in college one night, NHL the next night. You play your first four regular season games. You get a tuck in those first four games, which is so dope. That must have been an amazing monkey off the back. And then you're in the playoffs. And it's like, what does that feel like when you're just a college kid having fun with your teammates? Next thing you know, you're getting brought into this NHL team that's headed to the playoffs. The GM is saying that you're going to be the replacement for P.K. Suban, like, what is that pressure like?
Starting point is 00:40:25 What did it feel like when you just went from Boston, Nashville, you're playing in the show, and all of a sudden you're in the playoffs? Yeah, it was, I mean, obviously it was a quick turnaround. As soon as we lost, I think I was signed and gone and seemed like, I think, two and a half days, three days, landed in Nashville and try to get situated pretty quick. So, yeah, I mean, went on a few trips. I think my, you know, I played my first game at home in Nashville against Columbus and felt pretty good. Obviously, you just kind of, at least I was a little nervous to get out there. But, you know, a couple shifts go by, you kind of settle in.
Starting point is 00:41:06 And, you know, it's just another game. You kind of feel like obviously a little quicker, you know, guys are a lot stronger in battles and whatnot. But I felt pretty pretty comfortable right away. Just, you know, with the, even with the guys in the locker room, they're. you know, chat with me and, you know, trying to help me understand systems and whatnot. And Labby at the time was great with me, same with Cato. So, you know, they sat down with me multiple times just to, like I said, go over systems and just kind of get situated and see if I needed anything and whatnot.
Starting point is 00:41:39 So I actually, we flew to Pittsburgh, I think, and dressed in warmups just kind of get a feel of, you know, warm ups and then scratch me that night. and then the next night that was my first game or two nights later. It was actually crazy in Pittsburgh, you know, flying around the ice and warmups and Karasmi and Alkin and all those guys around the other side.
Starting point is 00:41:59 It seemed pretty surreal to me at the time. It was, you know, obviously those guys you had been looking up to your whole life and you get to see, you know, 87 on the other side of the red line was pretty cool. I was going to say, that's fucking awesome. Dude, I can't believe you're like, yeah, I was a little nervous.
Starting point is 00:42:14 I'm like, dude, you are on the ice with Sid and Malkin. I would have passed out your first game. I didn't have to play though. I didn't have to play. I knew I wasn't playing that night. So I just, I try to soak it all in. It's,
Starting point is 00:42:28 it must have been a little bit of a nice entry into the league, right? Like with you guys, I feel like you guys had so many great demon on that team that you're all of a sudden playing with. How much of a help were those guys just like, you know, ushering you into the league, playing side by side with them.
Starting point is 00:42:44 Was that a huge help as you, again, went into the Stanley Cup playoffs? Yeah, I think a big guy I leaned on was Dan Hamhuis. So we were kind of paired with each other for the 10 games I was there. I think it was four regular season and the sixth playoff. But yeah, I think just chatting with him, I mean, just the way he was playing, especially in the later part of his career with Nashville and whatnot.
Starting point is 00:43:13 And it just seemed he had a calming presence on the ice. And, you know, he's kind of seen everything. and kind of done everything you kind of can. So I just kind of picking his brain here and there just about situations and whatnot may happen on the ice. And, yeah, I think that was probably a big guy. I definitely tried to lean on and talk to. But, yeah, I mean, the boys we have in the locker room are incredible.
Starting point is 00:43:39 I think he can ask anybody how close our team is. And that's why it's sometimes frustrating just with where we're at, the standards right now because we know we know we're a good group and we know we can definitely make playoffs it's just the matter of fact of doing it and and you know winning some games so yeah I think I think now um when you're looking at it you know I think you can kind of just lean on everyone I mean Yos obviously leads by example and um is a big part of this team and organization Eki um you know Borwicki um you know he's been hurt for a bit but
Starting point is 00:44:15 but he's a great guy to talk to about things and not even just hockey, just life in general. And so he's got a great aspect on life. And so I love chatting with them and everything. No doubt. We got to talk about the Winter Classic. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:31 So we got a chance to talk to one of your former teammates, Charlie McAvoy, who got to play in the Winter Classic this year. It's pretty cool. And then we had to ask you about the experience too. So obviously, I was actually laughing with Dan that it's like, you know, you get your first playoff run.
Starting point is 00:44:44 like we were just talking about against the stars. And then, unfortunately, they knock you guys out. And then you get the stars in the winter classic too. And they knock you, they beat you there. And it's like, we get a big Dallas stars problem. Fuck those guys. But. Yeah, they were.
Starting point is 00:44:58 Yeah. I mean, even. And you had a, you had the goal, a power play goal, right? You go up 2-0 in that game on a sick power play goal, like packed house in the cotton bowl. It must be wild. Yeah, I was, that was sick, honestly. I think I've actually been lucky enough.
Starting point is 00:45:14 I mean, yeah. I mean, you can't, he can't write it up any better or not. That was, that was awesome. Well, it just unfortunate because I think Perry had hit Ellis and knocked Ellis out of the game. So, oh, see, my number, my number got called to kind of hop on the power play, and it just kind of worked out perfectly. I think actually Dutchie threw it across to me back door. And if I would have missed that, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:45:41 It was a wide open net. So as soon as the puck came to me, I shot it, and I just, kind of blacked out, turned around, and, you know, that was kind of it. But I, yeah, just the overall experience itself, playing in that and the stadium series, I've been fortunate to play in, what, five, five outdoor games now. So it's been, it's been a lot of fun. Yeah, we had the one at World Juniors against USA in Buffalo. And then I played twice in Boston College at Fenway.
Starting point is 00:46:13 and our Boston University of Fenway. I think we played, not BC, play UMass, and I can't remember the other team. That's right. And then, yeah, and then the two, the stadium series and the Winter Classic. So it's been, they're tough, man. Those are tough games.
Starting point is 00:46:31 Like, conditions aren't great. It's freezing cold out. Obviously, the benches are heated, but ice conditions can sometimes be horrible. And so it was just tough. The hardest one actually was, the world junior one because we were caught in a snowstorm so it take like pretty much 20 minutes to shove all the snow off the ice and like you'd be skating with the puck up the ice and it's just
Starting point is 00:46:52 like piles of snow coming over your stick and you can't even see the puck and so that was probably the most challenging one I was probably a part of those games get feel I feel like it's like kind of like a shit show honestly when it's like when it's dumping snow like that the ice is horrible it's just like complete you can't even you couldn't even play you couldn't even play in it it was it was hard I mean, it was a cool experience, but like you're, you know, in the Bill Stadium and everything. But like being caught in a snowstorm in Buffalo, I'm trying to play hockey outside was, it was just a completely, you know, it was hard. Like I just, you can't even describe how, like, difficult this thing was.
Starting point is 00:47:31 And but it was cool. Like, I had my family down there and I had my sisters. So with the, especially with Team Canada, like, they treat the families really well. and make sure they're kind of accommodated. And, you know, they have their shuttles to and from the hotel. They have a big family room set up at the hotels for everyone. And so they get treated really well, which is great. Yeah, those games are almost more for the fans than for the players.
Starting point is 00:47:58 Like, we don't care that you've got snow on your stick. You can't see the pocket. I'm like, well, it's an outdoor. Oh, yeah. It's awesome. Yeah. Well, actually, I remember talking them after the game. They're like, I don't know if I can do that again because they're just standing.
Starting point is 00:48:09 Like their hands are frozen. Yeah, I believe it, man. It's crazy. No heaters. How did Cotton Bowl compare to Fenway? I think, I mean, Fenway's great, obviously, but it's just your planning college and stuff. I think it's just being on that national television broadcasts and, you know, kind of the game everywhere. I think the Cotton Bowl was just to build up to everything and the anthem.
Starting point is 00:48:38 But I will say I did like the stadium series better. Oh. Probably the most out of everyone. and just with it being in Nashville. I was going to say. Yeah, I just started ride to the game, the build up and everything. That was probably my coolest experience with the outdoor games, just with, you know, the musicians coming in to sing at, you know,
Starting point is 00:48:58 intermissions. And, you know, we played Tampa, a great team. And it was a good battle and obviously fell short. But I had a bunch of, you know, pretty much Pred Legends come in and get to hang out with them and kind of chit-chat with those guys. guys and it was a lot of fun. Did you get to bring any family and friends to that one too? Yep.
Starting point is 00:49:20 Family came down for that one too. And no buddies, though. I mean, me moving away so much and traveling so much as a, you know, as a young kid, most of my friends were pretty much at the rank, right? And on through the teams. And so you'd have your kind of your school buddies, but, you know, I'd be gone at lunch and then pretty much, you know, gone all day and then show up. up to school the next day at 8 a.m.
Starting point is 00:49:46 So you'd only hang out with them a certain amount of time just because you're so busy. But when I do go back, I get the chance to see a couple of them. But yeah, for the most part, everyone's playing. And, you know, if it's not the NHL or maybe Europe or whatever it is. But, yeah, I just try to keep in touch as much as you can and kind of follow their careers as well. And you have, is it two or one sisters that's still in Nashville? Just one. One actually moved down here to finish up for school and she's now working and everything. And the other one still lives in Vancouver. Just got engaged. Well, not just engaged, but she's getting married this summer.
Starting point is 00:50:25 So getting excited for that. Yeah, where's the wedding? Yeah, I know it's back in BC. So they're just getting everything settled up and organized and getting the yes and knows. from all their guest invites and trying to figure out numbers. Listen, if they get a lot of nose porn in, they get a lot of nose poured in, you got two guys right here. I'll make sure I'll reach you out, you guys.
Starting point is 00:50:51 I'll make sure I reach you out to you guys. Is it awesome kind of having a family member and a sibling? And you go from, you know, BC to Boston, then you head straight to Nashville. Was it great having a sibling in that city, kind of showing you the ropes and just having a piece of home close to you? Yeah, I mean, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:10 It was great. Like, we're close to, like our, you know, our whole family's close. We have a pretty large family with cousins and everything. And so I think, yeah, just having her coming down here and being able to hang out and, you know, do her thing. And it definitely makes things easier. Obviously, you know, I'm traveling so much with, you know, games and whatnot. And so I think having her at the house kind of looking after things and ended up getting a dog. So now I have a permanent dog sitter, which is awesome.
Starting point is 00:51:40 Big. Yeah. Yeah. And she likes to clean too. So it's actually the best of the whole world. Yeah. New dogs cash, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:52 Yeah. He's a chocolate lab. About a year and four months and he's almost 130 pounds now. Jesus Christ. Yeah. What's the diet, dude? He's having seven game meals with the boys or what? Cash is a unit.
Starting point is 00:52:07 I don't know. I don't know. Like I feed him twice a day. I've stopped doing it three times a day like when he was nine months and like he's still growing. I don't get it. Is he a tank or is he just a big dog?
Starting point is 00:52:21 Like what's the deal here? Oh, he's a moose. Like he's a moose. I don't even know. Probably open the door. He's probably sitting outside. But yeah, he's strong. Like he'll pull in the leash.
Starting point is 00:52:34 He's pretty good with me. And like as soon as you get him tired out a little bit, he's pretty mellow. but yeah the first 20 minutes he's sprinting in between your legs you know he wants to play all the time and he's got a lot of energy but I'll tell you why that's probably one of the best best things I've ever paid for just having him and I think no matter what coming home what kind of what kind of day you had it's always seems to put a smile on your face yeah no doubt about it um dude this time of year I feel like in the NHL season is always pretty crazy like you said you guys are playing good
Starting point is 00:53:05 hockey right now got some tough losses here and there but things look good, you're on that bubble, you know, place right now in the league where you're, you know, fighting for a playoff spot. How tough is it when you're in that type of situation, you know, whether you're in first place or you're a bubble team or you're in last place, frankly, and things like the trade talk start coming on, just trying to battle to get into that wildcard spot? Like, does that wear on you constantly or is it something you can kind of put out of sight, out of mind and just focus on the game? you know what i actually you see it pop up once in a while and uh and whatnot but i've actually
Starting point is 00:53:41 i've actually i don't see too much anymore like i i don't have twitter anymore i hardly use you know facebook or whatever um you know obviously you're watching the nchl network and things like that but um you know you see stuff and um you wonder if it's actually true or not so but i mean for the most part i don't i don't think guys tend to worry about it i know there's, you know, everyone's different. I know for myself, I don't, I try not to worry about it. And just kind of focus on what you got to do that night and, you know, how to, you know, best prepare yourself to win games.
Starting point is 00:54:15 And, you know, that's kind of what we have to do right now. We got to kind of band together and, you know, click away for a couple wins and hopefully push our way up the standings. Yeah. Do you ever, like when you're a team that's trying to get in, there's always a lot of talk trying to be buyers, right? You're like, oh, let's go get somebody and bring him in. But I've always wondered in an NHL locker room,
Starting point is 00:54:35 are you like, did the boys even want people in the locker room? Or are you like, no, we can do it ourselves? Or are you like, no, let's bring someone in and add some more firepower. What's that like? Especially with you guys, because I feel like you have such an awesome group of guys. You are outside looking in and us being fortunate enough to have some relationships with some of you guys. You're such a close-knit group. And it's like, yeah, that must be bizarre thinking about disrupting that in any way.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Yeah, I mean, any chance or, I mean, anytime you can get a high-end guy in here, it's obviously great. But at the end of the day, it's a team game, and you've got to kind of figure things out. So, you know, if a guy comes in and tends to help, then that's great. If not, you know, it's a business, and, you know, you know how it is. Things happen and change quickly. So obviously we want to try and get this thing and figure this thing out together with the guys we got. And so we're doing the best we can right now, putting our kind of,
Starting point is 00:55:33 work boots on and so it's been it's been a little bit tough like you said just with some losses we've had and games we thought we should have had and but you know like we were talking about the other day in the in the locker room just our we had one game I think we came back from break and you know we kind of just got completely outplayed and it was a little bit embarrassing on our part and that shouldn't be happening but kind of had a chat about it and you know we're ethic should never be in question with our team and just with the guys we have and character we have in the locker room. So I think that's the biggest thing that's, you kind of see the turnaround a little bit
Starting point is 00:56:13 is, you know, it seems like we're another 10% hungry on Pucks and willing to get to those areas. So taking hits to make plays and, you know, all that kind of cliche things you can say. But, you know, it's fun to be a part of when, you know, everyone's kind of pushing on pulling on the same rope and, you know, it seems like that that's the way it is right now with our team. And so I, you know, it's just, like I said, it's both rattling off wins right now. It's the last little bit of the season. And that's kind of your only focus is winning games any way you can. I love it, dude. Well, obviously, you got a ton of friends in your locker room, but you've got a lot
Starting point is 00:56:51 of boys around the league elsewhere, too. You know, plenty from those stacked B.U. teams, obviously. But I see you hanging around with Tyson Yost and Clayton Keller, who are going to talk to. soon. And then like you said earlier, Matt Barzell, who you grew up with. And you two are easily, Dante, I want you to know, every time we bring up Maddie, a producer, Emily, keeps pumping her fist because she's got a huge crush on Maddie. So you can pass that on. I will. Yeah. And YouTube being from the same. He was actually, he was texting me today, actually. There you go. There you go. Oh, she just pumped again. So yeah, you guys, you guys grew up together, same hometown. Easily the two most famous dudes ever from that town, by the way. It did a big
Starting point is 00:57:29 Wikipedia search to see who else I could bring up, but it's you two. You're the guys. Is it? Oh, yeah. I wouldn't know. I guess maybe hockey, at least sports probably. I don't know about, you know. Well, I, there might be a couple of Nobel probably. There's like a couple authors or something, but I'm a, I'm biased. I skew hockey guys. So I'm giving it to you too. So I love to know what's it like to kind of have that camaraderie around the league. Also, is it like, is there a bit of competition between you guys trying to be the best. And then finally, who would win in the ping pong game, you or Maddie? I think I have his number right now.
Starting point is 00:58:08 Really? For sure. He was pretty good. But like we played, I played a lot of ping pong at school and stuff, like just in our locker room. So I was able to get pretty good. And we would have some, some tilts like in my basement when we were growing up, like just kind of a few matches after games and just couldn't even stand to look at each other if somebody lost. Yeah. But we've kind of had that kind of competitive relationship our whole life just with playing and playing with each other and now playing against each other. So, you know, anytime you can kind of get a good lick on them on the ice into the boards, it's definitely nice.
Starting point is 00:58:48 It's funny, my first game actually ever playing them, we both took double miners on each other. I kind of cut down the wall and I like just completely, I like wrapped them up and try to finish them. And ref called me for holding and then I think they called him for diving. I thought you were going to say he retaliated, but he embellished. Oh, my God. Yeah, I think they called him for diving. Yeah, there's a good photo. Both our parents have.
Starting point is 00:59:13 It's just both of us in the box and we're looking at each other laughing. That's amazing. I have to find that. That's incredible. It's so funny, man. Like, I can relate to that so much the amount of times that I've, you know, fired a ping pong paddle at this dickhead's head. Because it's like, you know, the people you're closest to are weirdly the people you're the most. competitive with when you start going out ahead to head.
Starting point is 00:59:31 It's nuts. So nuts. Yeah, we'd have some good battles. And honestly, it wasn't even just that. It's like when you play cards or you play basketball outside, you're playing 21. It's just like, it just out of nowhere gets heated and, you know, and you'll hate each other for a good hour. And then after that, you're, you know, you're fine. But it's always sweeter winning, though.
Starting point is 00:59:54 I mean, it just makes things a lot easier in your day and you're not as pissed off the rest of the day. I saw you bragging about it, dude. Like, you have some old tweets talking shit to Maddie of beating him in ping pong like 10 years ago. So, yeah, like, I know you, I know you were rubbing in his face the whole time. Yeah, well, I had to, that's probably a reason I had to delete my Twitter just because, like, I didn't know, like, when I was younger what I was tweeting or anything. So I just, like, got rid of all of it. And I know I was probably, was I swearing on it probably? No, no, it was very clean, very clean shit talking.
Starting point is 01:00:26 Was it? This is really good. Look at it. Upstanding. I'm upstanding. That's what I'm saying. It's, you've got a really good Twitter pass.
Starting point is 01:00:32 You've hear all these people getting stuff dug up. Yours is just shit talking. Yeah, it was like another blood path in the bar in the basement. Yeah. Like, good. Let them have it. Dude,
Starting point is 01:00:40 is it weird during the season? Like, with, you know, like Chris just mentioned Keller. Uh, it was actually funny. We were talking to him about,
Starting point is 01:00:48 uh, head into the almost Friday bar for the Super Bowl. And then Dutchie was kind of like, well, there's going to be like 30 of us, prez guys and wives and friends. So it might be weird if some dudes from another team that we're playing tomorrow show up at the same bar.
Starting point is 01:01:01 How often does that come up? Because Matt's a great example of some of these guys are your best friends on earth. But during the season, does any of that relationship diminish a little bit? Or is there any bit of like, oh, let's not talk if we're about to play in two days? Or does it kind of just, you know, the friendship rings through no matter what? No, I mean, I don't think you just shut a friendship off
Starting point is 01:01:23 just because, you know, you're playing. I think, you know, as soon as you show up to the rink that day, think, you know, all bets are off and you want to win and try and be the most competitive guy out there. And, yeah, but I mean, I was, you know, guys go for, you know, dinners with other guys all the time and before games and whatever it may be. So I just think, you know, everyone's a pretty, is professional about it. And it's not like you can't go out and see your buddies and, you know, go and hang out of them. I think, I was talking with actually Keller about it. them actually going to the, almost Friday.
Starting point is 01:02:02 And I just don't think some of their guys wanted to go there just with all of us there. And so, I mean, personally, I don't really care if they're there or not. But, yeah, I mean, I think they're just kind of scattered throughout trying to find a TV to watch the game, which kind of sucks for them. But, you know, I was pretty comfortable on the couch. Yeah, there you were sitting pretty. Would have made a six door, though. There was a brawl the day before the game, full team. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:28 That would have been great headlines. That would be good for the NHL. Speaking of Nashville, one thing we had to bring up, because this is a huge, I mean, you've got an amazing career so far already. It's only going to get better. But one of the greatest accolades ever has already happened to you. A couple of years ago, you were named one of the most beautiful people in Nashville on a local website. I mean, I just, first I want to say congratulations. What a fucking amazing.
Starting point is 01:02:53 And then the other is, I know the boys gave you a bit of a hard time about that posting pictures up in the locker. and stuff like that, but there must have been a part of you that felt pretty good knowing that you got that accolade over, you know, maybe the most incredible looking guy in the league, Roman Yossi. That's got to be huge. Yeah. I mean, obviously, Yose is a weapon, but for the most part, honestly, I think they probably ran out of people to ask so they had to put my mug up there. Dude, I don't know. I saw the picture. I mean, it was cool. They do. We found the pictures. We're going to put them up. you look really good. I got to say. Yeah, Emily's going to splice this. We don't need to be doing that.
Starting point is 01:03:36 We don't need to be doing that. But, no, they do a couple things. They do like the national lifestyle. They do, I think, the most beautiful, most eligible, a few other things. So, yeah, I mean, they ask me to do the most beautiful. And what are you going to say, no? So I said, yeah, I took a couple of photos. And it was later I showed up and kind of was like,
Starting point is 01:04:01 I didn't know what to wear and I brought suits. It was, again, it was smoking hot out, humid and brought all my suits in there just like wrinkly and just all this stuff. And I had to like, I was in the back trying to like, you know, get all the wrinkles out and put the shower on with the steam and everything. It was an ugly morning. You come out and they're like, you are sweating everywhere. And you're like, yeah, so I brought it back up.
Starting point is 01:04:27 It's 90 degrees out and I just had the shower on to get the wrinkles out of my suit. you want from me. Yeah. Yeah, it was great. How much were the DMs blown up that week when that article came out? I honestly can't remember. I don't remember. I actually, I had a few people reach out and kind of laughing more jokingly, a couple of friends, but yeah, it was just kind of a thing they'd asked me to do. But yeah, I'm honored to be most beautiful and can't take that away from me.
Starting point is 01:04:59 Maybe most eligible, too. That is on your shelf forever. That's huge. Oh, don't worry. I made sure I got a bunch of magazines with it and hand them out to my family and everything. Just let them know. Yeah, your parents' house is the picture of you and Maddie in the box. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 01:05:16 You most beautiful person in Nashville. Yeah. Pretty sick. Oh, yeah. Okay, Fabbs, now we're going to play a game with you, all right? We do this every episode. The game is called Pass Shoot Score. All we're going to do is we're going to give you three things at a time and you've got to rank them.
Starting point is 01:05:30 Okay? So pass is going to be your least favorite because getting assist is cool, but it doesn't bring the chicks out. Shoot is your second most because getting bucks on net is a good thing. And then score is your favorite because everybody likes to light the lamp. Okay. You got it? Yeah. All right. First category, we're going some clutch athletes.
Starting point is 01:05:48 So pass shoot score. Tiger Woods, LeBron James, Big Poppy, David Ortiz. Wow. LeBron, Big Poppy. And who's the first one, sorry? Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods. Okay, score Tiger Woods. I knew he was going to do Tiger.
Starting point is 01:06:11 Score Tiger. Let's go shoot. LeBron. Pass. Big Poppy. Okay, so I got to ask. First of all, I know you're a big tiger guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:23 We're huge tiger guys. And by just little FYI for you, dude, you were born in 98, which is in the Chinese zodiac, that's the year of the tiger. So I think that you got a little tiger in you. Just remember that next time you're out of the true. There we go. Yeah. I actually got to see him live for the first time ever a couple years ago at the Northern Trust.
Starting point is 01:06:41 I mean, he wasn't playing well, but I mean, just like being there and getting to see him. I think he was playing. And then the group behind him was like Thomas Kepka and like DJ. So it was like kind of get to see Tiger finish. And then those guys hit into the green and then I just like just book it down to the other side. But it's crazy the amount of following he has just on the golf course. Dude, I mean, it's your 15. 15 rows deep and you can't even see him make a put
Starting point is 01:07:07 but you're still going nuts and trying to watch and so it's cool. We're going to go to the Genesis open this weekend here in L.A. And we've been to that a few times and Tiger's going to be there. Hopefully he makes the cut. But same exact thing that you just said every time Tiger's plan.
Starting point is 01:07:22 I mean, you'll be going around and there's absolute studs on the course and there's 20 people. And then you go to wherever Tiger is and it's 5,000. You're right. You're 15 rows deep. Dude, well, quick tangent,
Starting point is 01:07:34 the a few years ago babbs he was at genesis and he uh was going to miss the cut i could tell but he um they delayed the round on friday like round two got delayed so some people had to finish super early saturday morning so he had like six holes left saturday morning and i he i thought he's going to miss the cut and i wanted to see him so bad so i got up at like five 30 in the morning went to genesis get to the course there's you know 20 golfers finishing or something course is literally empty except for hundreds of people just following Tiger. And when he gets up to, he started on the back. So when he finished at 9, he was headed up to the clubhouse as he was done.
Starting point is 01:08:11 So I kind of ran around where I knew he had to walk to the clubhouse. And he actually made a sick birdie put on 9 to make the cut. So I didn't even have to get there that early. But anyway, I was there. And he turns the corner. And he kind of like, he's like muslin through people and then just looks right at me. And dude, I'm like that clown that's head to toe in tiger gear at the tournament. And I made eye contact with him, which I wasn't ready for.
Starting point is 01:08:32 So I just kind of panic and I go, sick fucking putt, tiger. And he goes, thanks, man. Thanks so much. And I was like, all time moment. Had a quick con moment. Never forget it. Yeah, you'll never forget that. That's incredible.
Starting point is 01:08:46 We're going to hit you with your next one, kicking it to food. All right. So pass, shoot, score. Sushi, O. Henry candy bars or a home-cooked Italian meal? Pass, oh, Henry, shoot. Oh, man, this is a tough one. I had a feeling I'm going to have to say, I'm going to say,
Starting point is 01:09:08 I'm going to say pass sushi and then score home cooked Italian meal by my mom. Okay, I was about to say who is the best Italian cook in the family and it's mom. Oh yeah, by far. She got a family
Starting point is 01:09:23 recipe for the sauce and everything, meatballs, so it's, I mean, it's pretty dynamite. There hasn't been I don't think a single person who's hated it. So all my buddies, When my mom makes the big dinners, they always like to come over and kind of, you know, pick out on that. So it's, yeah, for sure, the home-cooked Italian meal. When we come for your sister's wedding, maybe the night before, she could cook a dinner.
Starting point is 01:09:48 Yeah, that would. There we go, yeah. I mean, I'm sure she will. If you had scored sushi there, you probably would have never heard the end of that from your mom. So I'm glad that you went with the family loyalty there. We have to. I mean, she makes like, she makes like breaded veal, like thin veal. It's, I don't get why it's so good, but it is.
Starting point is 01:10:10 And it's like, it's honestly, it's like a drug. Like, guy, like, I've had like Jost and a couple other buddies that come over. And it's just she'll have like probably 30 of them in like a bag and they're gone by morning. It's just like everyone just keeps going into the fridge and grabbing them and eating them. And you wake up the next morning, you're hungry and you're looking for something. And it's just like they're all gone. And now you have to eat. eggs and just all that boring stuff, right?
Starting point is 01:10:34 Yeah. But so here's the thing. I do know that you love sushi, so I'm curious to know, what's your go-to order at Oku? Ooh. Tennessee Two-step. I actually love like, I love like Toro sashimi. Yeah. But I feel that, you know what?
Starting point is 01:10:55 I feel that Varago has better Toro than Oku. Wow. But Oku is still still my favorite. Yeah. And then like Sam and Billy, I love like a lot of like raw like fish and everything. So honestly I'm kind of a garbage can. So I just eat whatever's in front of me and until it's gone.
Starting point is 01:11:17 I feel like after I feel like after hockey, I'm going to be definitely overweight. Yeah. I mean, you've done it at that point. Dude, actually this fucking freak over here, we had a couple buddies who similar to you. They were talking about their. food that they could eat the most of
Starting point is 01:11:33 and two of our buddies were like, it's sushi for sure. So we found it all you can eat sushi spot here in L.A. We went and these two sit down and they're ordering all these rolls and they're just smashing sushi and there's four or five of us there as well just eating like a normal human being. And these two are going head to head
Starting point is 01:11:49 and I think they get to like 52 pieces. Pieces, pieces. 52 pieces of sushi. And one of them is like, I'm toast, dude. I'm tapping out. And the other's like, all right, I've won, but I'm going to see. if I can go to 60. And he gets to like 58 and stops. And we're like, wow, man, great job.
Starting point is 01:12:07 Meanwhile, one of our friends has been looking at this guy the whole time. And he was like, wait, Chris, how many have you had? And Chris was like 63. And he wasn't even competing. Wasn't even in the competition and just kept pieces of sushi like tick tacks. I can't help it. It's like, what are they just sitting there? And I'm like, whatever. I'll just keep going. Like breath minutes. Yeah. Yeah. So I think we actually, we used to in college. In college, we used to go to all you can eat sushi. It was called Yamato. I think I'm, uh, in college. Uh, in Copley Square, like the underground. Yep, yeah, I've been there.
Starting point is 01:12:35 Yeah, so we got, we were, yeah, we were in there. We'd go there pretty much probably every other Sunday the chance we can. And, um, we, I mean, the one time we ended getting kicked out of there just because, um, guys, obviously, like, when you order, we have, like, there's four of us and it's probably enough to feed 20. And guys, like at the end of it, and you're just like force feeding yourself. And then guys would be like walking to the bathroom with this, like, napkin. full of sushi in their pocket trying to dump it out. Yeah. A couple of those.
Starting point is 01:13:06 You don't get charged if you don't finish. You get charged for every extra piece. So like, yeah, guys are just like walking like full pockets full of like sushi. Trying to try to not pay for it. He's going to say they're stuffing them down the toilet trying to flush it. Incredible. Everywhere. Literally everywhere in the trash can.
Starting point is 01:13:23 Yep. But yeah, I think we got caught the one time and they were like, yeah, I don't think you guys can come back. Boys, you're not welcome back. Yeah, that'll be a ban, eh? What can you do? Yeah, it was a good run. Okay, we're going to TV shows now. Ready?
Starting point is 01:13:39 Pass. You'd score the Pacific, Game of Thrones, and the Blacklist. What's this all on? How did you guys find and find all this stuff? Don't worry about it, dude. We talk to people. We've got our connections, bud. I actually just finished.
Starting point is 01:13:57 I was re-watching Blacklist, but I'm going to say, past Blacklist. shoot Pacific, scored Thrones. That's my boy, right? But you know what's... That's my boy right there. What'd you guys think of the House of Dragon?
Starting point is 01:14:15 Oh, great question. So I'm deep in like the book. Like I read all the Thrones books. I read House of Dragon. So I'm deep in all that stuff. So I was just excited to see it adapted. It didn't quite, it didn't hit Thrones level for me.
Starting point is 01:14:28 But I enjoyed just being back in that world. Like I wasn't bothered by the fact that it's a problem. And we kind of know where it's going. I was into it. And they took some cool liberties that went away from the text, which I really liked. But what did you think? So I liked it,
Starting point is 01:14:40 no doubt. But when that show came out, what it made me do was go back and reboot Thrones. And it just made me realize how fucking elite Game of Thrones is. And I watched the whole thing. Yeah. Game of Thrones is so good. Okay.
Starting point is 01:14:53 It's better. It's even better the second time you watch it, I find. Completely agree. Completely agree with that. Yeah. Did you like, just because like you, I mean,
Starting point is 01:15:02 I thought it was, I thought it was just okay. I wouldn't say it was like my favorite. I actually was really into, what is it, rings of power, the new Lord of the Rings thing. So like I was watching both flows at the same time and just seemed to always gravitate towards the Lord of the Rings one. I just like, I don't know, I just couldn't get through it for some weird reason. I didn't think it was bad by any means, but just wasn't.
Starting point is 01:15:28 House of Dragon, you couldn't. It wasn't as good as thrones. And I just felt like it was such a big buildup for it. and it just didn't live up to the expectation. I kind of agree with that. It was too, it was, it was,
Starting point is 01:15:37 they spoiled us with how wide of a scope thrones was. And then House of Dragon was so contained and quiet. And a lot of episodes are really slow. And the time jumps are confusing. It was just, it was just a lot to take in. Who, uh,
Starting point is 01:15:48 who's your, um, who's your, um, who's your, um, I mean, I,
Starting point is 01:15:55 I feel like I like everyone. Um, it's like sushi. I like everything. Yeah. I mean, probably, probably John,
Starting point is 01:16:03 snow and, um, Tyrion, I actually, for some reason, I love Tyrion. Of course. And you got it. You got it. And yeah, probably those two for sure. I mean, I was just shocked.
Starting point is 01:16:16 I could believe, like, in the first season, they killed Ned Stark off that quick, just with, like, how big of a character he thought he was going to be in the show. And then just behead the guy, just like that. And then I was a big, like, I don't know. Yeah, I think those two guys for sure. I didn't really like, there's obviously a lot of great characters in there. No, there's some legends. You wouldn't even, you wouldn't even, you, no, go for it.
Starting point is 01:16:47 What were you going to say? Oh, broke. No, I thought it froze. Sorry, I didn't think it. No, no. Sorry, my bad. All right, I'm going to hit you with it. No, I just didn't think it was going to end the way it did.
Starting point is 01:16:57 Oh, yeah. Oh, did you freeze? I don't think so. I think we're back now. We had a little lag there for a second. There we go. There we go. There we go.
Starting point is 01:17:07 We're back. We're back. All right. I'm going to hit you with a personal one. All right. Your next pass shoot score. Hanging at the family dock, ripping some water sports on the boat. 36 holes of golf at the troupe with the boys.
Starting point is 01:17:20 And awesome Sunday dinner hanging out at the house with a campfire in your guitar. Score 36 holes of golf. Yeah. Got to. Pass hanging out on the dock. And then, or no, shoot hanging out on the dock. and then Sunday Sunday dinners is a pass
Starting point is 01:17:49 Okay That's it I think is what I would have We do that anyways We do that anyways Like when we're up at the cabin We're still have We're all hanging out with each other anyway
Starting point is 01:17:58 So it's like every day's a Sunday dinner And like we're out in the water all day And then Yeah And you just can't be playing golf I feel like that's That would be a majority of guys First answers I feel like
Starting point is 01:18:09 Did you, I love for I love how much I don't know what you guys Are you are or no I'm the exact same way did you play golf, you know, back in B.C. Or did you kind of pick it up once you got down to Nashville or even in college or have you always been playing? No, I've always played my whole life. My dad actually was in Arizona. He'd played golf in a couple of colleges down there.
Starting point is 01:18:33 And that's kind of where I got it from was through my dad. So he started me pretty early, but I was never, I never honestly took it serious. I would get to the course and I was kind of like, oh, I suck. Like, why can't I be good, blah, blah, blah. then actually kind of in COVID, in COVID, that's kind of the first time I actually like, you know, because we had nothing going on. And they actually opened up my course up the street and get up there and finally using all the practice facilities and actually like trying to work on your game.
Starting point is 01:19:02 It helped me a lot. And ever since then, it's been, the game's been a lot better. But you said it just takes time. And after, you know, not playing for months, it might take a couple of weeks to kind of the feel of everything back. Our dad's a pretty good golfer and a wonderful dad, I should add. And my only complaint about him was that he didn't ram golf down our throats harder when we were younger.
Starting point is 01:19:26 Like he would just let us play a little bit even though he was a stick. And now I'm old and I suck. And it's his fault. Yeah, he spent too much time focusing on hockey with us. And I'm like, dude, I could play golf forever. I'm going to stop playing hockey almost immediately because I'm such a fucking plug. Why didn't you spend more time on my short game? It's unbelievable.
Starting point is 01:19:42 I think if I ever had a son, I think golf and hockey would be the two sports. I try to push golf a little more just because, you know, if you go to tournaments, you get to fly to nice weather, go to nice places, if he's good enough, but I'll make sure he is. Yeah, I completely, if I have a son, I'm going full Earl Woods. I'm putting headphones on the kid and just smashing drives. Oh, yeah. Yeah. What's the water sport, by the way? Like when you guys are chilling at the dock, is it, well, you guys out on the boat?
Starting point is 01:20:12 what are you doing? I mean, back in the day, we used to kind of do everything like swamp skiing, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing and whatnot.
Starting point is 01:20:24 But now just tubing is just like too hard on the body and the shoulders just with injuries and stuff you've had in the past. So we ended up getting a new boat, a surf boat, like the Mastercraft. And so we do a lot of surfing now behind the boat and just kind of leisurely cruises up and down the water. and we got a few like jumps like cliff jumps across the water and so we go out there for a bit
Starting point is 01:20:48 but yeah we actually we use the boat our new boat now a lot more than we used our old one just because fits a bit more people and you have that accessibility with the water obviously it's it called surfing and whatnot so yeah it's definitely surfing now it's probably the only thing we do on the water now I don't want to sound like an idiot what is swamp skiing Swolm skiing. Like single ski? Yeah, okay. Swamp skiing?
Starting point is 01:21:18 I thought you said. Is that what you say, right? Swam. No, yeah, slalom. You said it right? I just heard you wrong. I was like, is swamp skiing a new fucking thing
Starting point is 01:21:25 that I don't know about? I mean, I was so rattled for a second. I don't know what that is. I have actually no idea of that is. But it sounds like it would be kind of interesting. I was going to say maybe we invent swamps skiing now and it's just this new invent something, yeah. Yeah, there you go.
Starting point is 01:21:41 You're doing it right. the tubing the tubing injury is a tough one to explain away to the coach you know like hey sorry yeah it's funny and i had i had one bad oh no i had one bad crash like i i just well i just like we hit a wave and like you know how like when you hit a wave and like kind of everyone kind of flips off the tube i had one and i got like a knee square to like my face and it was just like i've never actually i've never seen so much blood come out of like it just like cracked me directly in the nose and it was just like all down my life jacket everything I was a little younger too so I was freaking out and we were stuck on our C2 so we couldn't fit and then the person I was tubing with
Starting point is 01:22:21 like didn't want to go back in the tube because they were too scared and I was just we were all losing it and I was snapping and anyways we ended up getting back and nothing was broken thank God you didn't break your nose a bad headache and concussion no I didn't surprisingly I had a big head easy target to hit but I have never never been been hit with pox in the face and everything and I've never broken anything knocked on wood there you go it's uh it's funny you look on paper you would think that tubing is the safest and it is not yeah
Starting point is 01:22:52 I mean you get someone hits the wake heart by far out yeah they eject 20 feet in the air it's unbelievable I've had yeah I've had a few hard falls with wakeboarding too just like trying to clear clear wakes and stuff and like your you know front edge gets caught and it's just like your face slaps against the water and, you know, you hear about all these horror stories with people getting knocked out and all this stuff. And that happened. And my whole one side of my body was pretty much bruised and I was done. I didn't, I haven't
Starting point is 01:23:23 wakeboarded since. I don't blame you. I don't do the same thing. You got to shout at, you get to that age. Yeah. Yeah. We got two more for you here. All right. Here's a fictional superhero character one. Past you'd score. Batman, Iron Man, Dracula. Dracula? Oh. I was going to say, don't try to laugh that off. I know you were obsessed and did, how about seven years in a row of Halloween is Dracula? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, for sure. I did. It's also because I could, I couldn't think of anything else. I was going to ask is that one. shoot. Yeah, I mean, I already had all the costume stuff there.
Starting point is 01:24:08 I had the wig, the cape, everything. I had the fake fang. It's easy. It's just easiest thing to do. Yeah. And then, yeah, past Dracula, shoot, probably Batman. And then score with Iron Man. Nice, okay.
Starting point is 01:24:25 Got it. Damn. Did you cry at the end of end game? No, I can't say I did. I honestly like I like the Avengers, but I just, now this multiverse or whatever this thing is they have, I have actually no idea what's going on with it. So there's too many movies to keep up with. And so I just kind of steer away from it now. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:45 As a super fan, it's just gotten too complicated with the shows and all the movies. It's just there's so much shit going on. Yeah. I have actually no idea what's going on. Yeah. Okay. I'm going to finish you off with the last one here and stick with movies, but talk about the greatest. movie of all time. So you got a pass shoot score three characters from Happy Gilmore.
Starting point is 01:25:08 Chubs, Shooter McGavin, Virginia Venet. Past Chubbs. I guess right in that order. There you go. Okay. Yes. Was Virginia Vendon movie crush just like mine? Yeah. You know, her or Jennifer Anderson was like my like by far growing up was like my celebrity crush. Yeah. Were you a big friends guy? For sure.
Starting point is 01:25:41 And then, yeah, it was a little bit. Not until later, though. Started watching it actually kind of recently. Within, I would say, the last. Yeah. I mean, how can you not? Her and then I was like really into like Milakunis too, like growing up. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:26:02 No, of course. Now it's just like. You're naming amazing. Great choice. No one is, no one is arguing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:09 Who else? Yeah. I'm surprised Chubbs gets the past there but I mean it kind of makes sense I think Shooter is maybe the greatest
Starting point is 01:26:19 movie villain of all time it's unbelievable yeah I love shooter he's hilarious he's hilarious he's hilarious how you've seen that movie
Starting point is 01:26:26 uh more than 10 I'd have to say they had it actually they had it playing the other day on TV and I like I feel like I had just recently watched it but I still watched I stuck with it
Starting point is 01:26:39 watched the whole thing um it's just an all time classic I think for anybody. Yeah, it's one of those movies that you see on cable, like you just said, it's an auto stay. Like, I'll stick through commercials just to finish that one. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:53 I mean, commercials are horrible. I can't stand commercials. I have, like, you know, sometimes you have, like, those Hulu subscriptions and you got to wait through the commercials and all that stuff. And it's just, I can't do it. So I got to flip on Netflix or HBO or something. I'm completely with you. It's like waiting in a line. I won't, I refuse to wait in a line somewhere.
Starting point is 01:27:12 It's the same with commercials. If it comes on, I'm like, get me the phone. No way. It's awful. All right. Dante, we have taken up over and out of your time here, and you've been absolutely unbelievable. So we're going to release you here.
Starting point is 01:27:25 But before we do that, is there anything you want to plug? Anyone you want to give a shout out to before we sign off here? Anyone I want to plug? Like, yeah, just a shout-out. Is that what plug means? Yeah, or like, you got anything going on in your life? Do you want the people to know about or what's going on these days? I just
Starting point is 01:27:45 I just you cut out there I didn't hear you Oh but basically I was saying Is there anything You got going on in your life these days That you want the people to know about Or are you just kind of cruising through the season here
Starting point is 01:27:58 I mean Yeah I mean as right now nothing really I guess the biggest thing is just getting my house all organized I moved in I moved in about two and a half years ago And so just kind of getting a few projects here and there kind of all situated and building a little mini bar at my place. And so just a couple small projects and whatnot and trying to make it a little more
Starting point is 01:28:23 sexier. So I do need to rent it out to try to get as much money as I can pretty much is what my plan is. But no, yeah, yeah, it's kind of tough to get, you know, things going throughout the season. But it's kind of nice to have a couple of things to distract you and get you away from, you know, thinking hockey all the time. When does the golf simulator go into the house? That'll be the next house, hopefully. Depending on, you know, what happens with, you know, contract situations and everything
Starting point is 01:28:54 this summer, I would, you know, I'd love to stay here in Nashville and be a part of this organization. And so we'll see, see what happens this summer and, you know, throughout the next couple months here. So, yeah, it's, I would like to definitely have a big man cave with, you know, Putt and Green golf simulator. maybe sauna, cold tub, you name us. Keep going, keep going.
Starting point is 01:29:21 Yeah. All right. All right. Shout out to Cash, the chocolate lab. Shout out to your sister's wedding coming up. Congrats to her. And then shout out to you, Dante Fabro. Thank you so much for coming on and joining us.
Starting point is 01:29:32 Best to lock the rest of the way to the boys. Shout out to you guys too. Thanks, boys. Hell yeah, man. Massive, massive thank you to Dante Fabro. Yeah. I want to play golf at the troub with him. I want to go to his sister's.
Starting point is 01:29:45 wedding in BC and I want to play fetch with cash. I can't believe you called me out for my crush on Matt Barzal. Why? This is how we got that. He has a girlfriend, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, but that ain't married. That ain't married? They're not engaged. They're not married.
Starting point is 01:29:57 You never know what's going to. We're just saying, we're not saying you should interfere. We're just saying that if anything happens, it'll be good. You know what this is? Let's say, God forbid, Matt and his girlfriend break up. That's going to be devastating for him. It's going to be very difficult. But thankfully, his best friend.
Starting point is 01:30:15 And Dante Fabro will go like this. It's going to be all right, man. And I think I might have just the girl for you. Okay, facts. Facts. All right. Look at that scenario. That's beautiful.
Starting point is 01:30:27 I'm sure he'll think of me in that scenario. I sure he will. Well, because we're going to incessantly be hanging out with him. And keep bringing me up. Go to his sister's wedding. We're going to be playing golf together. It's going to be great. But yeah, huge thank you to Dante.
Starting point is 01:30:39 What a fucking great dude. That was just a blast. Unreal interview, as always. let's wrap up this episode with our usual segments. We're going to start off with... Nice. A little bit of Ico watch. Hey, everybody, Jack has 38 points in 41 games, including a goal, a goal, and an assist in each of his last two games.
Starting point is 01:31:07 And you're all in big trouble now. Don't let Jack get hot. Jack is healthy. His coach believes in him, as we know. I believe in him. Everyone is on his team believes in him. Everyone on this office believes in him. We've made it through the worst of the storm.
Starting point is 01:31:20 Now we can see the sun shining on the horizon. It is fucking go time jacklet. Get me to 72. He needs 34 points in 30 games. I like that math, Dan, 41 games. I think he'll only hit 69. Nice. I mean, remaining.
Starting point is 01:31:35 How many games? I know, but I'm saying like, oh, oh, yeah, right. How many games have they played? I don't know because it's not 41. He's only played 41. Probably something like. I think he has 20. He's 28 games left.
Starting point is 01:31:46 Okay, so he needs 34 points in those 28 games to get over 71. He can do it. Maybe he can. I don't know. If not, you're in trouble. Yeah, and if he does. All right, well, where in the world is Austin Matthews? I'm here to say that the Toronto Maple Leafs are no longer second in the Atlantic.
Starting point is 01:32:06 They're behind the bolts who are surging a little bit. And Austin Matthews is hurt. He is out with an awful injury, which you hate to see. You never like to see injuries. I'm devastated. that he's just missing games. He's falling under a point per game. Not for him because he'll only play a certain amount.
Starting point is 01:32:21 But I'm just saying, things don't look the best. Toronto desperately needs a trade. They're looking at all these great defensemen. They need to add someone to the blue line. They haven't done it yet. And I just wonder, you know, Austin's out, feeling a little hurt.
Starting point is 01:32:36 Maple Leaf start dropping some games. They're no longer in second. They're going to have to play the fucking bolts in the first round again. They don't add the best team end they can. Maybe, maybe not, but maybe gets you wondering. I don't know. Maybe Austin isn't going to stay in Toronto. Maybe he's going to head somewhere else.
Starting point is 01:32:55 Maybe he's going to go to a little town called Aspen. Whoa. Little town called Aspen where the beer flows like wine. It's just, I think he's going to maybe head off to a beautiful place. The fresh air, clear his head. So that's where I got him right now. I got him in Colorado. Love that for him.
Starting point is 01:33:18 Yeah, me too. I hit him on the seam on the slopes. Let's talk a little playoff trail, Dan. As you said earlier, the Sabres are 0 and 3 since the break. Five and one pumping against the Carolina hurricane. Seven, two pumping against the flames and a five one pumping against the Kings. They've got the ducks and the sharks next, which hopefully some get right games for them. But you look at those goals against numbers, Dan, and that has me concerned.
Starting point is 01:33:38 Trade for a goalie immediately before everyone gets the measles. It's just unbelievable. I was about to say, listen to me loud and clear. Trade for a goalie. Do it now. You have cap space. You have prospects. You have picks.
Starting point is 01:33:53 You need a goalie. Go get it. And that's obvious. I'll be right back on track. The only good news is Tage is back and I already had a goal. Tage is back and already tuck. That's true. All right.
Starting point is 01:34:01 You got anything to watch? Yep. I got one. Dan, Saturday. Caps at Hurricanes Stadium series. Lay off the jersees, everybody. They're pretty cool. It's where the NC State Wolfpack,
Starting point is 01:34:11 it's in their football stadium. It's going to be pretty sick. game. I like the outdoor games. Yeah, that'll be fun. ODR games are always great. All right, my Saturday game is Bolt's Golden Knights, just two teams that are playing real, real good hockey right now. That's always a great tilt to watch. And then I get the same theme on Sunday, Jets at Devils. That's a good game. Two second place teams who might have some new players soon. We'll see. But I'm ready to tune in for that one on Sunday. And then my last is going to be next week. It's going to be Tuesday. Tuesday game. This is going to be on ESPN Plus and Hulu. this is Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres.
Starting point is 01:34:44 I just think the Sabres are going to pull it together here. We got the Maple Leafs who need to stay strong as well. A lot of talent and firepower on that sheet ice. Great game to watch. Love it. All right, guys, that's it for us this week. We hope you enjoyed that interview as much as we did. And we will see you next time.
Starting point is 01:34:58 We love it. Skate hard.
