Welcome to the Empty Netters podcast.
Can you believe what this has become?
There was a full 48 hours where I felt like I was like literally Superman.
Jumbo loves playing Fortnite, so he gets on the sticks.
Did TR show you the sauna cycle or was that all year?
No, no, I invented that.
Almost a year now that I haven't taken a body check.
That's kind of nice.
So we are back.
We are horned up and we are going deep.
Finish tonight with some chicken fingers and a few guineasas and ran into you guys.
That's where this pod came to life.
Ice is ready and we're back with another episode of the MTN-N-Rs podcast brought to you by BetMGM.
I'm your host, Dan Powers, the doctor.
Yo, hello.
Doc and a sick hat.
And then fresh back from New Jersey.
Also a sick hat.
The land of opportunity.
CP.
As always.
I really don't like how they call that area, New York, New Jersey.
Because they go, it's the New York Stadium.
So they go, well, they go, what's that?
up everybody, New York, New Jersey? And I'm like, no. I don't like that either.
Not a thing at all. I also don't like it in general. Like, what are we doing New York?
You have room to put a football stadium in your state. But wouldn't you say this? Because I had the
same thought. The, you certainly have no room to put it in Manhattan, obviously. So you could put it
in like upstate New York,
but it's actually way easier
for the people of Manhattan
to get, it's right there.
If you don't have
the means to put a stadium
in your general area,
then you relinquish your rights
to have a team, in my opinion.
I don't hate the take
that they should be called
the New Jersey Jets.
That's what I'm saying.
I don't hate that.
You're not the New York Jets.
Yep.
You're not.
Yeah, okay.
I like that.
And like, I respect
that the Patriots
are called the New England Patriots
because like Foxborough A and Boston,
dude. The New York, New Jersey.
You couldn't figure out putting a fucking football stadium
in somewhere. And you know what? I'm kind of like
yes, you do have room in Manhattan.
Bro. You do. Build up.
You got to put it above the skyscrapers.
Or you just like level some buildings dog.
Sorry.
See you later. Central Park.
The like you're telling me that
London has room for all
of these stadiums. Like they made it work.
I know they're old. Yeah, they old.
But like I'm sorry dude. There's plenty of places.
You think they need the fucking park?
in New York, fuck Central Park. Put that shit right in.
That's a good take, too. I can do. I could get rid of the park. The problem is the
real estate. Actually, I'm going to be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of New York City. Central Park
is incredible. Yeah. It's actually, there's so much stuff in there. It's like really cool.
When you walk around and you're like, how is this in the middle of New York?
It's got to put it up high. You got to make it in a skyscraper.
Suspend it. Make it like a quidditch stadium. That would be cool.
Maybe like Cloud City and Star Wars. Do you think some New York, what do you think if your
apartment, if your Upper West Side New York,
apartment now had the meadowlands above it does your property value go up or does it go down because
you're in shade 24-7 because you're under the stadium down yeah but but then again i'm like this i'm
you're you're you're a mole person yeah like you live mole man yeah but you if they give you
season tickets to any event that'd be pretty good just by living there has like a sorry sorry
if you lived in new york city and you
got a notice that you were being displaced from your apartment because the building was being
leveled because they were moving the Jets and Giants Stadium to Manhattan.
And they went, as a result of this, you will be given five years of season tickets to Jets
and Giants games.
Would you take it?
Fuck, no.
Why?
Because they stink.
You're an idiot.
You can sell those tickets to make a lot of money.
And like, who knows, in five years, maybe they're sick.
The Jets have stuck for so long that they will quite literally never be good.
The Jets are dead, but the Giants are soap.
And I was talking to a guy in the cab, in a New York, New Jersey cab.
Hell yeah.
And he goes, what are you doing?
I said, I'm going to the game.
He said, I've been to the, I've been there, I've been to MetLife.
And I was like, oh, yeah, sick.
And he goes, I go to Jets games sometimes because people sell them for 30 bucks because the Jets stink.
And I was like, I can't believe you paid 30.
So now.
That is cheap.
$30 for a Jets game.
It's crazy.
But I believe it.
It is dark.
So bad.
So bad.
That is dark.
Did you have a good time?
Yeah, it was sick.
It was a very, you know, it was a long, a lot of travel.
But it was really cool to be there.
Dude, I couldn't remember if we had been there because we had been to the Meadowlands,
but I was like, oh, have I been to Meta Life?
Yeah.
And I think I did go with Chatsky.
We deduced that.
Yeah.
But I forgot.
It's huge, very cool.
what's the guys
what's the black dude that like
he's yoked
and he Terry Cruz
Terry Cruz
Terry Cruz was there
and sick
he was like yelling
you know
he was doing the yell thing
he took a shirt off
Terry Cruz he's funny as hell
yep didn't he
not to derail this
didn't he try to me too
also
like I think in the height of me too
Terry Cruz went like this
I was also assaulted
at everybody he was
yeah yeah he got like
he was groped
he was groped on the team
you piece right now Terry
You piece of shit?
Yeah.
You don't think Terry Cruz can be assaulted?
That's just always my memory of him now.
And like the height of the Me Too, Terry Cruz was like this.
Also me.
Me too.
Literally.
You're a fucking scumbag, dude.
You're such a fucking piece of shit.
He was there.
That was dope.
Leo was there.
Cool.
Yep.
Pope Leo or Leo DiCaprio?
Leo DiCaprio.
Okay.
And I think Toby was there too.
And the dude who's in Inception, who's their boy.
Yeah, dude.
I was going to say if Leo was there, Toby was there.
Yep.
And then also Brunson was there.
Yeah.
Saw that.
Oh, that's cool.
Saw it on TV and I was like, oh, hell yeah.
Yeah.
It took, I think it was landed on the call on TV.
It took him a while.
They were showing Brunson for like a full 30 seconds.
And then he was like, Jaylon Brunson.
Congrats to him.
And the whole New York Knicks team.
Yeah, very cool.
Very cool.
A lot of Nick's jerseys in the crowd.
And Dan, I know you hate that shit.
But I was kind of like, enjoy this.
Like, it's not even a soccer jersey.
It's not New York teams, but I was like, just with the Knicks.
I love the Knicks.
I love the Knicks, but I think I do not like that.
I'm like, what?
Just give him the summer.
Just ride it out, dude.
Just until.
No, no, I mean, they can wear it wherever they want.
But I think my bigger thing was like, honestly, if USA were playing in that game,
I actually wouldn't hate it because I'm like, that's a U.S. team.
Like, you know.
But it was just.
Brazil, Norway.
Nix.
Or wait, were you at that game?
Yeah, you were at Brazil, Norway.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
That's sick, dude.
And, dude, it was...
Some people are saying that you've gone to a lot of World Cup games that you don't deserve to go to.
A lot of people are saying that.
Yeah, I think they're right.
Yeah, I was going to say, who is not saying that?
Yeah.
What idiot fool is not...
Things that you've deserved all of these moments.
Yeah, that's crazy.
I was surprised by this.
The, I'm dead ass.
There were...
I bet there was a...
higher percentage of Brazil fans at that game than there were U.S. fans at the U.S.
Bosnia game.
The entire stadium was just yellow jerseys.
Wow.
The Columbia game in Miami was a true Colombian event.
Dude.
That game was in Medellin.
Yeah.
That was not in Miami.
So I, fuck, I heard.
Nothing will compare to that.
I heard a sick stat about that.
It's the first time Columbia.
Fuck, I'm going to mess it up.
But there was some reason for that.
It was like the first time blank.
And then people went crazy.
Because Dean, as in Chatsky's Dean, was at that game.
And he was like, they had to check my ticket like 20 times because they were like, people are like everyone on Earth from Columbia is here trying to get into this game illegally.
It was chaos in the streets.
That's awesome.
Yeah, that was nuts.
I did, though, think, and I don't begrudge this because Brazil is, I've said this many times, Brazil is what I think of when I think of the World Cup.
Yeah.
It's their, the iconic squad.
They are the Ferrari.
Yeah.
And so it kind of was like, I didn't, I don't begrudge everyone rooting for Brazil, but I was like,
none of you actually, or a lot of you don't actually like Brazil.
There were a ton of Brazilians there.
I was like, fuck yeah.
But most of them are phony Brazil fans.
I, here's, this is a great discussion.
This came up yesterday.
Someone asked me today on hockey talk.
And I loved the
caveat.
It was like, obviously you're rooting for USA,
but what other nations do you like
and what other players do you like?
And I was like, great question.
I think that there is,
I think it is very cool.
We've been talking all about
international relations this World Cup
and I think it's awesome.
It is an incredibly American thing
to be like,
I am 15% blank.
Therefore I associate with blank.
And I think that that's cool.
I don't know why I did an Elmo voice there.
But like it is, that is cool.
I think it's great to love your heritage.
Now, I think it's great to love your heritage,
but I think it is, in my opinion,
I think it's interesting when things like international tournaments
go on that the U.S. is in.
And there are people who are like,
I'm actually rooting for Mexico.
Yeah.
And I'm like, are you Mexican?
and they're like, no, but I'm like, my great-grandfather was born in Mexico.
I'm like, okay, are you rooting for the USA over Mexico?
And they're like, no.
I think that that's weird.
I think it's cool to have teams that you root for after.
Like, I really love Norway.
That makes sense for us.
I also really love England in the sense that when England is playing, I'm rooting for them
because I love Chelsea and I love a lot of the English players.
And I love England in general.
I love the country.
But again, I'm not an England fan in terms of I'm going to buy an England kit and run around and be like, I'm rooting for England this World Cup.
When they're playing, I'm like this, you got my support, guys.
Interestingly enough, England, Norway is going to be difficult for me.
Yesterday, after the Mexico-England game, Alice and I walked down the streets grab ice cream.
And there was just hordes of Mexico and England jerseys pouring out of the bars.
and I was looking at a lot of these people
and without asking,
this is an assumption,
and I'm making an ass out of you and me when I do that.
I was like,
so many of these people are not British,
so many of these people are not Mexican.
Now, that's okay.
It doesn't matter.
But like I saw one dude
with a backwards cap on
like New Balance sneakers.
He was like a very Venice dude.
And he had an England kid on.
No name.
A nondescript,
probably bought it at the Nike store
on Third Street Promise.
nod fucking earlier that day.
And I was staring at him and I was like,
that dude is not British.
And then I heard him talk and he was not British.
And I almost went up to him because I was standing in line waiting for my ice cream.
And I almost went, what, what's your deal?
Not in a judgmental way, but like, what do you wear in that kit for?
Because I am always curious.
And without calling people out, we have friends who are, you are from the United States.
you are Estados Unitos and they are rooting for another country.
And I'm like, I think that is an interesting choice.
Dude, I am so with you.
And I'll take it even outside of sports because it is also very cool that it's such a melting pot.
It's the best.
Yeah.
It's my favorite thing about the U.S.
I get rattled when anyone, it could be someone I know or don't know, when they go, I am blank.
Like they say heritage, like I am British.
and they go because
my mom and dad are from London and they met there
and then they moved here and then had me
so I am British and I'm like no
no you're not in fact you they go I'm 100% British
and I go actually in fact you are 100% American
I'm like what again you talking about it's like
if we're talking your heritage I'm like yeah that's sick man
but I'm like you you're born here
and you spend every waking moment of your life here.
So, just be clear about that.
Sandra's mom, Evan, when she,
Sandra's mom's Egyptian, from Egypt.
And when, before they had met me,
the first time I met them was at a Thanksgiving
that they hosted in Ohio.
Oh.
And per this, part of it all.
Per my point that I just made,
Sandra is 100% American,
but her heritage is literally 50% Japanese,
50% Egyptian.
Because her dad's side is all,
like they're both the first.
to ever have been here and then they have her.
And I am going to the mom side in Ohio for Thanksgiving and our mom's side is Lebanese.
And we get this whole, when I'm on the way there to meet Sandra's mom for the first time,
all the Egyptians, they go, Sandra's bringing a boyfriend to Thanksgiving.
And it's great news because he's Arab.
And I'm like this.
Hello.
And they were like, excuse me.
And I was like, I am.
I have error.
So incredible, dude.
So did they, were they disappointed?
No, because they said, I was Arab and here.
Yeah, he's a unicorn.
Aaron better.
And it worked.
Yeah, totally played.
Yeah.
So good.
When I look at you, I think Lebanese is true.
Yeah, exactly.
Fucking rights.
We got a lot to talk about hockey-wise.
It was a crazy, crazy weekend.
It started on Friday.
Thought we were going to have a nice, cool, calm Fourth of July weekend, but no.
The Philadelphia Flyers and Danny Breyer had other ideas.
Let's start things off here with a Leo Carlson offer sheet.
The biggest news of the weekend, no question about it, said on Hockey Talk that you have to tune into the pod to hear our takes on this, and you do.
So, to summarize, in the fucking dark of night, Danny Breyer and the Philadelphia Flyers sent a five-year by $18 million per year offer sheet to Leo Carlson.
who signed it, meaning that from that Friday, Pat for Beak and the Ducks have seven days to either match or accept said offer sheet.
This has been everything we've ever asked for as far as drama in the league and craziness.
This is, in my opinion, one of the wackiest things that we have ever seen.
Okay, why did you use that word?
Wacky?
Yep.
because there are so many elements of this that are Looney Tunes.
Yeah.
The fact that Pat Verbeek went out of his way to make a statement saying any offer sheet we will match.
Don't even bother.
The fact that he allowed Leo Carlson to get to July 3rd without an extension.
I don't care what was going on.
the fact that the flyers of all teams with the history with Trevor Ziegers trade with
cutter Goetier shit, Jamie Drysdale, they are the ones to send the offer sheet incredible
and the fact that the flyers gave Leo Carlson whom we adore oh yeah 18 million per year
is fucking nuts it's all amazing it's so so fun the
And I assume you saw this too.
What I heard was that they were offering around 12 and 13.
Leo's camp wanted 15 and that was the impasse.
That's what I heard.
Yeah, that is being reported.
But like we have sources, personal sources that were saying that earlier this year,
like towards the end of the season, Leo's camp heard an 11.5 to 12 number and they were like,
that would be a, they were like, we're in.
And that was the similar thing to Cutter.
That's why we have on the show multiple times said, if these guys are smart, they will sign the same
exact deal like Taves and Cain.
And the Ducks will win a million Stanley Cups.
So I don't know if I believe the 15 number, but even if let's live in that world, go on.
So yeah, and if that's the impasse, or I guess the reason I brought it up is because that is not
nothing.
Like that is kind of, that was Leo, if true, going I would like to be the high or the second
highest bid playing.
Like, I always forget that Carill has this insane deal.
But, you know, minus that one astronomical outlier,
I would like to be the highest-played player in the league.
And I don't totally hate Rebeek for going, okay, well, can we make it 12, 13?
Because then we can keep cut, you know, that is actually a normal numbers-wise conversation
to have between player and front office.
That conversation should have been happening weeks ago.
Yeah.
But that numbers wise, I go, yeah, okay, sounds good.
I see why you're not just writing a check to Leo for 15.
The only reason I semi-believe it is it kind of justifies why Leo would sign the offer sheet
because he's frustrated, right?
Like he's going 15, they're going 12.
He's going 15.
They're going 12.
And then someone goes 18.
He goes, fine, bye.
In my mind, that logically makes sense.
Whereas if they were all, if everything was happy and rainbows and sunshine, then
It's like, why would you? Because, dude, not to get it twisted. And as you and I say a million times, as a player's pot, I hope they get every cent. This was, this actively fucks the ducks. Like he easily could have gone, I'm flattered, no thank you. And then worked something out.
Dude. So there is some animosity there. I, that's the thing I can't. And I, I, we, we tweeted like a whole thing. And at the end, I was like, I'm also shocked that Leo signed. And people were like,
you're shocked and yeah I kind of stand by it.
Me too. Me too.
Because I'm jumping ahead of my notes here of things that I want to talk about, but I,
this ties to this.
This will be perfect.
I'm not what you're going to.
Leo Carlson is 21 years old.
And he, we think the world of Leo Carlson.
I think he is one of the, I think he's probably the second best young center in the national
hockey league as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah.
Like I go Macklin and then, yeah, that's probably true.
I think Leo has Anjikopatar, Ryan Getslav, Patrice Bergeron, Sasha Barkov elements in him.
He's a franchise player.
Say what you will about injuries with him.
I know that there are some people who are worried that he has injuries and this and that and the other.
And what do you have, 67 points last year?
So, like, this number is nuts.
Like, when you look at the Macklin Celebrini who just had, like, fucking 119 points.
And Leo Carlson, who had, like, again, I think it was like 67 points.
points in like 70-something game.
67 and 70.
Yeah.
The fact that he just signed 18 million dollars a year is, let's, it's be, it's nuts.
That is nuts.
Again, I don't care how highly you think about the player because we're in the camp that's
probably the highest.
Yeah.
Like whatever table is this table, everyone here thinks the highest of Leo Carlson, I'm at that table.
And I'll have the steak, please.
And 18, yeah, an 18 million year is fucking crazy.
I'll have the Swedish meatballs.
Yeah.
But it's like I, I'm just a little shocked because it's felt like things in a
Anaheim were so great. And everything and every one was on the most upward trajectory of all
time. And now all we've seen since the end of the season has just been calamity there. You lose
McTavish for a couple of first to the blues. We all thought McTavish might go in a deal that would get
Austin Matthews or Cona McDavid or Dylan Larkin. And then you just lose them for a couple of picks.
So now McTavish is gone after the whole thing of him sitting out and you finally sign him and he was
supposed to be your second line center of the future. Told him as low as humanly possible.
sold them as low as humanly possible, not for a massive player.
And then John Carlson gets traded.
His rights get traded.
John Carlson's bye-bye.
And then you trade Olin Zellweger for like a second round pick.
And he immediately signs that it's such a palatable number in Buffalo.
And then Trub was gone and Gudus is gone.
And now Leo Carlson's fucking offer sheeted.
And it's, I'm just like, oh my God, dude, what is happening here?
And this is why I'm surprised.
I am surprised because it felt like things were going great.
I thought Leo was super happy in Anaheim.
Now, him signing an offer sheet doesn't necessarily mean he's not happy in Anaheim,
but it's clearly something is going on, whether it be frustrations with the contract negotiations,
whether it be frustrations with the GM, I don't know.
But the fact that he signed this for me is nuts because, and I stand by this passionately,
if you sign a deal in the year of our Lord 2026 for 18 million a year,
you are signing a contract that says
whatever team I am on will not win the Stanley Cup
in my opinion.
Oh, oh my God.
Nice, dude.
In my opinion.
Nice.
I want players to get their deal.
I want them to get all the money they can.
But signing a deal for 18 fucking million
is a death sentence for your team.
And for a guy who seems like such a team guy,
it feels weird to me that he would go either.
I'm going to say, hey, Ducks,
peace?
Like, not necessarily fuck you, but like, kind of fuck you.
Yeah, I would say, yes.
Like, I'm signing this offer sheet, putting you guys in a crazy situation, and fuck you, I'm out.
I'm going to Philly.
And you then go to Philly and go, give me all my monies.
Yeah.
Or you go, Ducks match, and you have to walk back into the Ducks facility where they go,
Jesus Christ, pal.
Thanks a lot.
And he goes, give me all my monies.
Yeah.
Because I'll tell you what, man, you know what?
fan base is not going to accept 67 points a season at 18 mil a year.
Philadelphia Flyers fans.
So you, like, dude, you're the highest paid player in the NHL right now.
Yeah, you're a Conner McDavid now.
And here's the thing.
I have two things to say.
One, even when someone signs for more than that, whether it be Quinn Hughes, Kail
McCarr, Connor McDavid, doesn't matter.
You are still in the top 5% highest paid players in the league.
So you better fucking play like it.
And two, there are so many people trying to rationalize this decision, whether it be a Flyers fan or a Ducks fan, regardless of how it shakes out, who go, dude, in three years, 18 mil is not that much. I have news for you. Yes, it is.
Like, please get that idea out of your head.
Yeah.
Because you know what, dude, Darnell Nurse was making 9.25 mil, and he signed that deal, what, four years ago?
still this year.
Oilers fans are growing.
That is so much fucking money.
It's killing us.
Guys, 18 mil a year is going to be a lot on your cap five years from now.
Forever.
Like that is a lot of money.
I do not care how the cap is going up.
I don't care how much it is going up.
This is a massive statement of a contract.
And it's just like you,
look at the teams that we're seeing win the Stanley Cup.
No one is even close to this number.
When Jack Eichael has one of the top five contracts in the NHL, he was not on this current contract when they won that, Stanley Cup.
Look at everyone in Florida.
No one is making this kind of money.
Look at everyone in Carolina.
No one is making this kind of money.
The league's changing for sure, and that's a great thing.
But 18 mill a year is so much.
Do you think the, I imagine 17 is in the same boat?
Yes.
So the wild are fucked and cannot win a cup because krill is making 17 and you're dead.
Yeah, I mean, I hear you. Yeah. And again, I don't want to sound like we're contradicting ourselves because when he signed that, we were like, you have to keep the player. Yeah. I stand by that. The Minnesota Wild were forever, I don't want to say a middling team, but you were a smaller market team. And I think that's ass because it's fucking Minneapolis. It's the state of hockey. You should have a good team. And when you did well and you drafted well and you get players like Matt Boldie and you have this great run. And you have this great.
roster and you drafted krill caprisov. It sucked that krill caprisov was immediately like,
I am a sell sword. He's done this twice now where he was like, bro, I am going to fucking play
hardball with you until you pay me every cent. But I believe in krill caprisov. So I'm like,
pay him, dude. Like you just got to, because if you can keep krill, then you have superstars
in your team. The ducks were different for me because I'm like, you're in Southern California.
Everyone wants to be here. And you have drafted so well.
you're like you're in a good spot.
And it felt like Leo was a guy that you didn't have to pay to keep around because he'd be like, I want to be around.
We've got fucking Cutter and Beckett and Jackson and Dosty and Nett.
Like, we're fine.
So this was shocking to me.
So shocking.
And again, dude, I will go back to my large thing is you, what are GMs doing?
What are they doing by not signing their guys?
Dude.
Is that what you mean?
And I promise you this, man.
We saw it with the blues with Broberg and Holloway,
and we have now seen,
the devil's just offer sheeted Hayton in Utah,
and we've seen this offer sheet.
This is the new league.
And what's going to happen.
Offer sheeted, right?
Like, we don't know.
They haven't said, but like he was.
I think it was speculation that he was going to get offer sheeted.
So they gave him this thing.
So they were like, hey, dude, we're about to offer sheet this.
So fucking, that's my interpretation.
I don't know.
My interpretation is they heard that an offer sheet was coming.
And this is, we're going to get to this.
because of Nemek.
Yeah,
but this is the new,
like every year
we see defensemen contracts.
For a while,
it was the 8 by 9-ish,
like that McAvoy signed.
It is now 5 by 7.
Yep.
We saw it with Brandt Clark
and then boom,
Nemek and now boom,
Minchukkah.
And I think that they just gave him
that because they were like,
there's a similar guy.
He's 22,
and I think that's...
We'll come back to exactly.
Yeah, we'll come back to.
But I lost my train of thought
because you fucking derailed me.
What was I talking about?
This is the new league.
Everyone gets off of me.
Thank you.
I listen.
Offer sheets are clearly coming.
So I'm telling you, like, I would be shocked if Macklin Celebrini doesn't get a contract offer in the next day.
Yeah.
Like, if I'm Greer, I'm like this, obviously it's a bit dramatic, but I'm like, I'm not even letting you sniff.
Getting close to being RFA.
Are you fucking crazy?
And it's like, I mean, Leo, by fucking January, it was clear who Leo is.
How do you not just give him a deal?
It's like when you have a player that you believe in, and again, I know agents, and I have a take on agents here too, it behooves them to wait because if your players on a rocket ship, you're like, we're going to wait till the last second because that's when their value is the highest.
But dude, if you just like keep offering, because it could go the other way, right?
You could go, he could fall off a cliff.
He could get hurt.
Yeah, yeah.
Make offers when you believe in a fucking player.
So I just continue to come back to Verbeek.
I can't fucking fathom
that he has let this happen. I can't fathom that he let
all these guys get here. No one
was signed. And now you've got
the situation where you've just overpaid Minchikov
for sure.
For sure.
He had 20 fucking points last year
and zero points in 12 playoff games. I love the
player, but he underperformed last year.
Yeah, he did. And you just get, like, do
a simple comparison. Look at Brant Clark's
seasons versus Babel Minchikov season.
It's
you've now overpaid him.
And the reality is if you look at the ducks right now,
with the ducks paying Mitchikoff 7.2 per year,
and we're putting Leo Carlson's 18 mil on their books.
You now have 9.9 to sign Cutter-Goti,
which is probably not enough.
Oh, it's not even nearly enough.
Well, I don't know if I believe,
frankly, in my opinion, before all this mayhem,
I would have said a good number for Cutter was
let's what number
what year do you want? What term do you want?
Six, seven. I would have maxed him as much as well so let's say seven.
I would have said like seven by nine.
Yeah,
would have been a good number for it.
But like I understand people were pushing and especially if you wanted to do the match
because you could say,
but like Cutter had a better year than Leo stats wise.
He had fucking 40 tucks like yeah.
So let's say it's like seven by 11.
I I can't believe they are now in this.
situation where they have 9.9 to sign Cutter and Seneca.
Yeah.
Like, this is a disaster.
Well, stuff will come off, like, because you can, so you don't have to sign Seneca right now.
Stuff will come off, yes, but like, I don't know what I've been.
The way you thought about it was those guys.
These were the important guys.
And now you don't have, you don't have enough to sign one of them.
Oh, dude, you, like, so you, it is at a point now where you have to lose somebody.
And maybe that's like a Troy Terry.
Like, maybe you're like, okay, fuck, we have to.
to lose Troy Terry to keep Seneca.
Yeah.
Yeah, dude, it is a
absolute cluster fuck.
And I don't know,
I mean, I have a lot of things to say.
The stuff about Macklin,
where it's like, oh my God, sign him.
I'm kind of thinking,
if you're a player, though,
you should almost just keep refusing offers
till you get to RFA,
because then you know some team is going to come
from the parking lot and then give you an offer.
And then you can either go,
I don't like that team. I don't want it. Or you go, amazing. I'm going to sign this because I'll either go there or I set the bar.
My new team has been lowballing me, which they always are. That's their job. So I just wait for another team to go, fuck you. I don't have to low ball them. And then I go sick. Now you have to match. Suck it. And I'm like, that's amazing.
But herein lies the rub, right? Because as guys who say get every penny you can, I mean, it was funny having this conversation, you and I were having this conversation with two of our basketball buddies. And they couldn't believe how low hockey.
players are played.
Yeah.
It was so funny.
They were like, that's a lot.
And I was like, it's literally the highest paid anyone is in the league.
And they were like, what?
Like Austin Reeves just signed for that.
No disrespect, Austin Reeves.
You're the band.
Yeah.
Wait till you hear about MLB contracts.
Yeah.
So I understand guys want to get what they are worth, but I don't like that take.
I wouldn't do that because, dude, you fuck the team.
And I'm not even saying take a discount, but I am saying some of these guys are going,
I want to win.
I want to go somewhere and win.
I'm telling you right now,
you can't win like this.
If you want to be fucking paid
the most in the league,
great.
Good for you.
You ain't win it, dude.
Like it's,
there's a hard cap.
And it is that tough situation
where I can't sit here and go,
I want guys to get paid
as much as they can
and then also say this.
But I am saying that in terms of like,
dude, get paid as much as you can
within reason of what you want.
If you want to be the highest paid
paid in the league, go do it.
But if you also want to win, you have to think about this shit.
You can't take that much.
Because, dude, here's the other thing.
This is what's so funny.
I've been loving watching Flyers fans, loving the chaos of this.
So many Flyers fans are like, yeah, fuck the ducks.
This is awesome.
Blah, blah, blah.
And I'm like, hell yeah, dude.
Like, I love that take.
Let's say you get this, guys.
And Leo Carlson is all of a sudden on your books for 18 mil.
You have 29.5 million in Cap Space.
Bye-bye.
Yep.
Like, immediate bye-bye.
that turns to 11 mil like that.
So now you only have 11 mil,
and just a news flash, folks,
you have not signed Zegris.
You have not signed Jamie Drysdale.
Yep.
And like, if you all,
10 million's not going to sign those two.
Yeah, correct.
So fucking wake up.
And I'm just curious what people would say to that.
Like, would Flyers fans, you know,
try to flip the script and be like,
doesn't matter.
We're so happy.
Because I'm like, if you say that,
I'm like, okay.
but like Minchikov needs to be signed next year.
I don't know how you feel about him.
Porton, Portoan, Portoan needs to be signed in two years.
Like, dude, it's not, this isn't a good number.
Yeah.
Like this hurts the flyers.
It also hurts the ducks.
So, yeah, the number's crazy high.
I think if he takes it, or sorry, if the ducks don't match,
which I'll get into in a second,
I think it would be really funny that now,
you know, every time Carter touches the puck,
Philly fans just boo so ruthlessly.
Yeah.
Now you'll have this situation,
where it's the exact, like when they play, whoever's home,
they'll either be booing Cutter Ruthlessly or booing Leo ruthlessly
because the ducks will be so mad about this.
As they should be, by the way, Ducks fans, in my opinion,
if I'm a Ducks fan, the fact that he even signed it in the first place,
I have soured.
Like, we have a lot of Ducks fan friends out here who have been like,
if he leaves, I'll be in shambles.
And I'm like, you should already be in shambles.
The fact that he was like this, fuck you, I'm out.
That's what he just said.
So I can't believe you still love Leo Carlson if you're a Ducks fan
who was like, he'll ride for us.
Ducks fly together.
And I'm like, Ducks fly.
I never, bro. He's gone. Or that's what he would prefer.
It is like, I am genuinely, it goes back to why I can't believe he signed this.
I mean, the guy must have fucking balls of steel.
Yeah. Because unless, in these five years, unless you are a perennial MVP candidate and bring at least two cups, I mean that.
Yeah. In said five years, you are fucking public enemy number one.
In Philly, too. Yes.
They go, we also hate you.
That's what I'm saying.
Again, I hate you and so does Philly.
Also, I promise you, dude, wild fans who are the kindest, most docile fans in the world.
Yeah. They will turn on Krill in one more year.
They kind of were in the playoffs.
Yes, they absolutely were.
So like if next year, Krill is not an MVP candidate and if you guys don't go to at least the Western Conference final, he will be turned on.
Yep.
And rightfully so.
And I actually agreed on rightfully so because you should not be asking for that amount of money and they shouldn't have given it to you.
I think that too.
When Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum take the two biggest contracts in the NBA in their respective contract signing year,
and they then win a championship, I was like, good job.
Yep.
Like you have to deliver.
Yep.
They delivered.
We say this on this show all the time.
Timing matters huge when contracts are signed.
It doesn't matter if you are better than me and you sign a contract for 8 mil, and then in two years, the cap goes up and I have a good year and I signed for 10.
I'm not saying, look, I'm better than Dan now.
I'm just saying...
Like it's silly when people go, is Leo Carlson better than Leon?
dry siddle and I'm like it's that is not exactly this works in this case you are signing a contract
at the exact same time as cutter goatee i don't know if they're boys we are we are pretty friendly
with both of them separately but i don't know i don't intend to talk about their relationship
but i imagine there has been some conversation about this is sick we're building something here
you know what offers you getting i don't know i would think right yes and for leo to do this
it's I don't even know how if I'm cutter I'm not trying to make this overly dramatic but if I'm
cutter I'm like dude I now either have to I can't be on this team anymore or you have to make
double me which I think is embarrassing when when I was making all I made a series of story responses
to this in the immediate and I started to make I think I even posted because I hadn't seen yet
I was talking to you and Marty about it I was like I don't know if you've signed it and I posted
I was like, if he hasn't signed, and then a bunch of people are like, I think he has.
And I found the articles and I was like, oh, shit.
And I took it down and was like, yeah, he hasn't signed.
So, or he signed it.
So holy fuck.
There was a period where I was like, this might look so cool for both Leo and Verbeek.
Yeah.
If Leo goes like this, fuck you, I'm not signing that.
Yeah.
Like there was a period where I was like, this is going to be such a swaggy moment of like the duck's future.
When Leo's like, take your 18 mil and shove it up your ass.
I'm not signing that.
Verbeek.
Give me 14 mil.
and let's get to work here.
But then he was like this, no, I'm signing it.
And again, no judgment on him.
Agreed.
That's what I mean.
I stand by.
I am very surprised he signed it.
There is no judgment.
I am just surprised that he signed it because this is, it puts a massive target on his back.
And it says a lot about what is important to him, frankly, which is fine.
There's no disrespect.
It's just surprising to me.
And yeah.
And to continue that train of thought, he doesn't owe Cutter anything, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Whatever.
We play on the same, we work together, basically, you know,
we are co-workers, dude.
Yeah.
That is all.
But, yeah, I just don't know.
That would bum me out if I was cutter, where I'd go, dude, okay, then I get it.
And we don't ever have to talk about it again, but I get it.
100%, dude, because that's the sentiment here.
100%.
I think that the ducks shouldn't match it.
Dude.
And I'm ready to fucking die on this hill.
I think Leo, you just said, I think he's the second best young center in the league, and that's correct.
We're at the table or having steak in Swedish meatballs.
It's insane to draft a player like that, to get as lucky that you drafted a player like that.
And by the way, credit to Verbeek and his staff, because that was the Fantilli two year.
And I was like, oh, my son is going second, obviously, and they took Leo.
And Adam is incredible.
But Leo is like on this rocket ship trajectory.
Absolutely.
It is insane to draft a player like that and lose him right now.
absolutely gutting because you never get that chance.
These Philly picks theoretically won't be that good.
Your picks theoretically won't be that good because you're pretty good.
So is Philly.
There's no two falling in your lap again.
Yeah.
However, I just think if you are good at your job,
you can turn four extra first rounders plus your first rounder plus plus, plus,
whatever.
I don't know what their prospect pool is.
into a very good, I think you can prize someone very, very good loose at a number that keeps
your team relevant versus what you will hamstring yourself with by keeping Leo crossing.
And I know it's tough to swallow.
I could talk about this situation forever and we're going to because this is such a fun topic.
In the moment, we tweeted out and I was talking about it and I felt very much, I was like,
this is a damned if you do,
damned if you do, it's fucking lose.
I was like, the ducks are fucked
no matter what.
Everything you just said,
give me 50 first round picks.
You pray to God
that you find a player like Leo.
And frankly,
this is such an interesting situation
because the Flyers just made the playoffs.
Yeah.
Normally you would see something like this
from a team who is bottom dwelling
a little bit.
But they're a playoff team.
So presumably,
these next four-year picks,
especially if they get Leo Carlson in this,
is going to be like a 16 or higher pick.
So those picks suck do-do butter.
They're not good picks.
So in that regard,
I'm like, if you let him go and you save the money,
I don't give a shit about those picks.
We don't like picks at all.
They suck.
So I'm like, this is a nightmare, dude.
And you have lost.
You had a franchise player who's 21 years old and you lost him.
Now, if you match it, you're also fucked because now you can't pay your current players and
your cap is absolutely deaded for the foreseeable future.
So it is truly a, like, we're smoked, dude.
Yep.
No matter what.
I have come around to, I also think you don't match.
I think you go, you look like a buffoon.
Yes.
And here's the thing.
Pat Verbeek, you look like a buffoon.
you have let this get to this point.
You didn't sign this guy.
You didn't sign cutter.
You didn't sign it.
It's already bit you with Mitchikoff.
It's now, you know, you're, this is brutal.
But I think you just have to go, dude, I know I said I would match any offer, but 18 mil is a death sentence.
Like, Breyer, okay, you're, you're fucking the joker over here.
But like, you take it, dude.
Yeah.
Take that fucking 18 mil for five years.
years and see how it works. And you'd be petty about it in your speech. You go, good luck. I hope you
you guys win a cup in the next five years. Yeah, yeah. And like I would, because got news for you
dude, even if you keep Leo Carlson. And after five years he's signing, uh, what do you think's
going to happen to that number? It's going to turn into 25 minutes. That's what I said he's going to go
give me a race. Like you're fucking dead, dude. Like, what are you doing? You imagine that's
smart when he goes, they go, hey, do you want to sign a seven year for 15? And he's like a pay cut.
What are you fucking nuts? I said this when Austin Matthew signed. What does Austin Matthews made?
13.25.
Something like that.
I said this when Matthew signed that deal
because Matthew signed a bridge deal.
And I was like, dude,
this is insane and the Leafs are fucked
because he is going to need a raise after that.
And what's funny is
if you look at Austin Matthew's numbers
for the last two years
and you realize that after this season
he's up for an extension,
you would probably go,
his number's probably something close to 13.25.
Yeah, yeah.
But that's what he's making right now.
Yeah, so he goes.
So like that's a race.
So like that's a scary one.
So here's where I get to on this.
I do think you almost have to go take it, Philly.
Like fucking good luck, boys.
But then literally, the only thing you do from now until October 1st is desperately try to make a trade for someone with, because you now have six first round picks between McTavish and Leo Carlson.
Yep.
but the thing that's fucked, dude, I've seen a lot of people going into the Petty Wars, which I really love, and then I'm going, they should let Philly take it and they should turn around and they should offer sheet Bedard.
Number one, in this podcaster's opinion, I think Leo Carlson is a better player than Connor Bedard, but that's neither here nor there.
In order to send, because I'm pretty sure the Blackhawks have $300 million in cap space is like, is how it seems.
Like, what the fuck?
Yeah, correct.
Like, I think Chicago has 29.3.
Like, they had a, you know, frankly, they had less than the ducks to start this.
But any number Chicago is going to match.
And it's the same situation.
If you sent an offer sheet to Chicago for a palatable number, let's call it 14 mil.
Yeah.
Chicago goes, easy.
It's probably what we're going to pay him anyway.
Yeah.
So there's no point in that.
And the only way you make this a question like this one is sending him something absurd.
And it's like, well, why wouldn't you just pay Leo that number?
Yeah.
So the idea is either you also send something absurd just to hamstring Chicago and then set a waterfall of hamstrings, in which case I'd be like, fucking yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I would love the mayhem of that.
But from a business decision, it's not smart.
It is not smart to go, here you go, Chicago, 18 mil for badard.
Because either they go, we're matching it and you've done nothing and now you hamstring a team or they go not matching that.
and now you're paying a player that you think is worse, probably,
than the player you could have had.
So it's just a gamble.
It's a huge gamble.
So my point is tons of people being like they should do,
they should accept it, take the picks, turn around an offer sheet someone.
Some people said Fantilli.
Fantilli's an RFA still.
I was just going to say that would actually be nice.
Sure, you could do that.
In my opinion, you brought up Matthews and McDavid.
You were like, you need to take those picks and you literally need to take
all six first round
and go like this.
Hey, Edmonton,
give me,
give me him.
Toronto,
give me him.
The thing that spooks me
about that is
those are both players
who are up for a new contract
immediately.
Yeah.
And now with fucking Leo Carlson
making 18 mil,
they are probably going to go,
uh,
I mean,
okay,
I would like 18 million from you.
Yeah.
And you're like,
fuck me.
So you need,
in my opinion,
to trade one of the,
or trade any sort,
not all the picks.
obviously, but use what you have now, and you've got to go get like a Rob Thomas, who's under
contract for six more years. You've got to go get a Larkin who has five years left. Like,
you need to go get a guy who is under contract and is somehow on the block. Yeah, yeah.
Because otherwise, you just, you, you are, you're trying to cover up a bullet wound with a
band-aid by being like, oh, yeah, like, isn't it great? We got a new player. And I'm like, yeah,
but now you're about to pay that player the same amount because this fucking set off a chain
reaction in the league that is insanity.
And that is all true.
And I think you're right, though.
You just overpay.
Because I know the Ducks fans are going to listen to this going.
So you want me to take the fucking four first round picks and one of mine, swing them to Detroit for fucking larks.
And then go, okay, how old's Dylan?
29.
So I get 29-year-old Dylan Larkin under a great term.
Yeah.
But I have 29-year-old Dylan Larkin and I had Leo Carlson.
And you want me to be fucking happy about that.
And I'm going, yes, because, and this is trust.
if you keep Leo, you're dead.
And we don't know we're right about that,
but that's what we're trying to tell you.
We're saying if you keep Leo,
cutter now hates him and the team
and gets underpaid,
or you lose Cutter or you lose Troy,
everything's falling apart, whatever.
Or you are right back to what you were building before
with maybe you gave up some potential energy.
Because the potential of Leo,
people agree,
is higher than what Dylan Larkin is currently giving you.
And I'm like,
I think I'd roll the dice like that
when you watch the teams that win, I think I'd roll the dice with, let's get back to where
all the excitement we had. And it's a little bit different because I, instead of, it's a lot
a bit different, dude. Well, for sure, but I think it's a little bit a dick. I know, but like,
let's, let's be real. You know, like, I, we love the ducks, but we have to be real on this
situation. This is, this is fucking brutal, dude. Yeah. And, and you know what's fucked, man,
let's say they did take, let's say they took all four of those picks, nothing else. And they went,
Philly, take them, all four of Philly's first round picks, sending to Toronto for Austin Matthews straight up.
Even then, I don't think fans are happy.
Yeah, you're right, but they should be.
It's Austin Matthew.
I don't think so, dude, because ultimately you get two years of Austin Matthews and then you have to pay Austin Matthews somewhere between $15 and $18 million, I would suspect.
Yep.
And you're now paying a drastically older play.
basically the same contract.
Yeah, I bet he takes like a 15.
Okay, let's call it 15.
But the point is you could have had Leo for less than that if Pat just did his job.
No, the initial fuck up is a disaster.
But it can't be ignored.
There is no fixing this situation.
Zero.
Zilch.
There is no way that you can do any move that makes you go, we're actually right back in
the same spot.
You are worse off, no matter what happens here.
that's why this is an unforgivable fuck up.
There is nothing.
You come up with any even somewhat realistic solution.
There is nothing that puts you in a good position.
Nothing.
Okay, so all I'll push back on,
because you're right in no matter how you shake it out,
I think you're upset.
Not you, the Ducks fans.
I think you go, fuck, dude.
But I'm just thinking, in my opinion,
this is just what I think.
There's a version where you go,
fuck you for letting it get here,
but I'm ready to move forward with this
and we have a real shot and that,
what you just described,
I don't know if the least would ever do that,
but if you literally went by Leo,
boom, four first rounders and ours
to Toronto for Matthews,
will you sign a 15 extension for Max?
And he goes, yes.
Then I go like this.
Dude, you know what it feels a lot like?
It feels a lot like Carolina,
where they go, like the rant and it's like,
fucking body blows.
And then you're like, we got stank back.
And, uh,
Are we okay?
And everyone goes, we're a little bit worse, but I think we're okay.
And then they won the fucking cup.
I think that scenario can exist with the ducks.
It'll take a lot of wheeling and dealing, but it can exist.
Everything else I think is fucked.
Yeah.
I just, I don't know, dude.
Like, again, it's like when you think about realistic players,
Austin Matthews had 53 points in 60 games last year.
That's not very different from 67 and 70.
and Austin Matthews is seven years older than Leo.
I'm sure a lot of Leafs fans right now are going,
are you saying that Leo Carlson's as good as Austin Matthews?
And I'm like, yeah, maybe.
Like I, are people looking at Leo Carlson
and not telling me that he is going like this?
And that's saying, I don't know if there's some injury
that we don't know about.
Because I have seen some takes from hockey people
who are like, there's a world where Verbeek knows about an injury to him
that no one else knows about.
And they're like, we're not fucking paying you 14, dude.
and then this happened and Philly's going to look so dumb.
Yeah, that would be a nightmare.
I would love that personally.
Yeah.
Wouldn't that be great?
That would be great.
Now, I don't know if that's the case.
Let's maybe it is.
But let's say it's not.
Then Leo Carlson is going like this.
So I stand by it, dude.
There is literally no solution that puts them.
And I liked your comparison to Carolina.
I am not sure that I would say when they,
flipped Rantanin for stank and everything they did and then got Eelers.
Like, I don't think, I wasn't going.
I just meant the Elers was after.
Like, that was a great thing.
Sure, sure.
I just meant like the Rantan.
In the moment, you were like, we are not as good as we were with Rantan, but there
was the knowledge that you had to pay Rantanin something big.
And you avoided that.
And you got younger players.
You got got under insane, like, I mean, dude, they are way better right now than they
were with Rann.
Yeah.
That is not happening here.
There is no solution here.
Yep.
And that is what's scary.
me. It's like you have all these draft picks and we know people overvalue draft picks,
but I, you, you, the thing that's so nuts, dude, you had all of these players that you could
have paired with picks to make sense for. Yeah. Yeah. Like Zellweger and like Mitchiecoff and like
McTavish. And then you fucking traded all of them and then overpaid one of them. So I'm like,
now you have nothing but draft picks. Dude, it's, if this fucking team just goes through the next four years
and uses these picks every year in the first round,
I'm going to lose my mom.
With the 23rd pick, the ducks take,
the ducks take, who gives a fuck?
Like, congratulations.
So it's just, again,
I don't know what to do.
I honestly think you maybe,
I think you call their bluff,
which is not even a bluff,
and go, enjoy it, dude.
And I am with you, I would be so petty.
Yeah.
I would go, I hope that was worth it.
And, you know,
I'd be petty to both of them.
I'd go,
we were having, I thought, very constructive talks.
This is exactly what I would say.
I thought we were having, I regret not getting this done with Leo sooner, of course.
Here's my press conference, dude.
Yeah, do it.
You're Pat for a break.
Yeah, tap the mic, too.
I'm going to read a prepared statement, and I will not be taking any questions.
Fuck yourselves.
I regret.
Is this the press card?
You're laughing when you said that?
Yes.
I regret not getting done with something Leo Carlson sooner, which put us in this situation,
and I will own up to that.
Don't look at me.
Look at the cameras.
No, I'm too scared to look at the camera.
Then you're a bitch, and now I know this press conference is trash.
You're looking at your PR agent.
Am I doing good?
How's it going?
Yes.
What's the reception?
You're too sweaty.
You're too sweaty.
Look at the camera, you horse's ass.
And I'd go like this.
I would go, I thought we were having very constructive conversations,
and it is sad for us to see here that the player,
values one thing, which is money and not winning a Stanley Cup and the culture we all thought we
were building here. I also wish the best of luck to Philly trying to possibly build a competitive team
surrounding an $18 million anchor against your salary cap for the next five years. And I will eat my
fucking shorts if they do better than we do in the foreseeable future. So to the player,
enjoy your millions, to the team, enjoy your playoff failures.
we will continue building the culture on the people that want to be here
and try to get this back on track.
Good day.
I love it.
And I think legitimately that is what they think.
Or that's what I would think if I'm then.
I'd go, bye, dude.
You don't want to be here, dude.
How often do you say that?
You're like, I don't want the player that doesn't want to be here.
I'm like, Leo Carlson does not want to be a duck.
This is what I meant to bring up earlier.
Brother?
Minchikov, if there's speculation, I don't know,
maybe he got up, I think he was going to get off-fachied.
There is a direct quote in the reports that said,
Minchikov was told them I'm my intention is to stay a duck so just match it now so we don't
have to deal with it.
She said that out loud.
Yeah.
So I'm like, Minchikov wants to be a duck.
Leo Carlson does not want to be a duck.
Yeah.
I, yeah, it's so fucked.
It's something that we don't think about.
Like people forget that the player needs to sign.
Yep.
Like can one of you Google this and check me on this?
But like when Montreal issued a offer sheet for Aho, Aho signed that.
had to have, correct?
Because from what I've seen
is people are saying
it doesn't become public
unless the player signs.
So like it's kind of fucked that like
people forget like Aho signed
that offer sheet from Montreal.
He signed the offer sheet from the Canadians
and then he did not join the Canadians
because the hurricanes exercised their right
to match the five year,
$42 million.
So like that's kind of fucked up
and like the way that Carolina fans
are fucking in love with him
and like he made all those comments
where he was like, it was like,
it was always here.
And I'm like, well, not really.
Yeah, you try to.
to go to Montreal. Like you tried to leave. Yeah, like dead ass, dude. You tried to go to Montreal. And so I
agree, man. Like, that's, that's why I was saying, like, I can't believe he's, and, and that
number is so cuckoo banana sandwich that I can't believe he signed it. And I understand it's
money on the, it's the burden of hand, right? It's money on the table. And you're right,
if these negotiations were going so poorly, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a world where he and
his agent were like, fuck you Verbeek. Look at this. This team wants to pay me 18 mil. I'm signing
it suck me. Yeah. I wouldn't be shocked if that was some of the emotion that went in here.
But at the same time, I'm like, when that number is that high, you kind of got to be like,
oh, I'm making a fucking boatload here no matter what. And it then does suck if like they don't,
they don't tender you. They keep fucking around and then you go to arbitrate. Like that would be a
nightmare. I got to believe though you are, you can go like this. Obviously people can lie to you,
but you, I got to believe you could go, hey, I just got offer sheeted. Like I assume this isn't
illegal. I'm asking. I imagine you are allowed to call your team and go, hey. No way that's illegal.
And even if it is, there's no way it is, but even if it is, Hondo P. You go and you go,
Philly just fucking sent me 18 million, dude. So this is what I mean. Let's say those numbers are all real.
Leo's been going 15, Verbeeks going 12, neither will budge. How do you not go, hey, dude,
they are about to offer sheet me, or they just offer sheeting me 18 million. I will decline it.
If I have your fucking word, I can have 15. Otherwise, I will,
rinse you. You know what I mean? Like, and then he goes, no problem. But, and again, I know he can
lie and then just go, psych, 12, but like, maybe he just wants to move to Philly.
Dude, we didn't think about that actually. Newport? Schmooport. You know? He'd been talking to Zegras,
dude. Ziegs. And he's like, this dude, season of depression is real. We need cold weather.
Dude, you're from Sweden, dude. You know, you know what I? Put it this way, man. I am, I am,
I'm with you. When you sign something like that to me, it does say, you don't. You
don't care about the ducks. And I'm like, okay, dude, fucking buy. And I am, if and when the ducks
don't match this, salivating. I am salivating for Leo Carlson's press conference. Same.
What do you say to this?
Dude, you do Leo. And I, I will reject any PR answers. Yeah. Any bullshit, dude,
like what I what I love about Cutter is he stood on business yeah when Cutter fucking made this move he was
like dude there it's it's my life it's my career I knew where I wanted to be and where I didn't
so I did what was I thought was right and informed people of how I felt and I saw something happen
like he did not give any bullshit answer and if Philly fans want to hate him for that that's fine
but if Leo is like oh you know the negotiate blah dude fuck that brother and this is someone who loves you
to say what fucking happened, dude.
We need more of that.
Like, it's not petty to just say the truth.
The truth is never petty.
Truth will set you free.
I think more people need to know that.
Like, the truth is not petty.
It's what fucking happened.
And if Cutter, or excuse me, if Leo goes,
here's the deal.
I was drafted second overall by this team.
I've really liked it here.
And I believe that I am the franchise player
of this team for the future.
And I wanted $14 million.
That's what me and my agent went in and said.
And Pat Verbeek would not even come close.
to that. And it was incredibly frustrating. And the last thing I was willing to do at 21 years old
as a restricted free agent peaking in my career was go to fucking arbitration and have that
bullshit looming over my head. So a team sent an offer sheet who clearly values me and I fucking
signed it. And if they don't want to match it, that's fine. I'm excited to take my talents
to Philly. That's exactly what I would say. If that's what happened, that's what you should say.
Do not do some bullshit about like, oh, well, the money, we couldn't come to turn. Fucking give me a
break, dude. Just like,
be real.
Dude, I like teams hating each other, too.
I want more of that.
Dude, I mean, they're all friends now.
It's like, for Beek and Breyer will never do business with each other again.
This is awesome.
Like, I want it to be like the fuck.
I know they're not in division or anything, but it's still, it's like anytime
Philly and the ducks play now, it's going to be like, oh.
Two guaranteed good games.
Let's quickly hear from BetMGM, Chris.
And then we will jump into some Jason Robertson stuff.
The World Cup has been absolute numbies from start to finish.
step into two games. Two games. A lot of people say I don't deserve it, but I do deserve it
because it's so fun. And if you want this to make this tournament, one to remember, you need to
use bet MGM's two-up early payout. It is incredible. It has been my favorite bet all tournament. I've been
cleaning up, but I want you to clean up too. Just place a pre-game match result bet on any
World Cup game. Literally, all you have to do is say, I think this team is going to win this
World Cup game. And if at any point during that game, they go up by two goals, you win. Done. It
doesn't matter if you get these stoppage time goals, which I'm seeing every day. Every day I need
something. There's a stoppage time thing that wrecks it for me. This does not matter for you. If they go
up two goals, boom, it's just like you've won your bet. It's over, done, finished. It's money.
And you will get that money. It's awesome. If you haven't signed up for BetMGM, do that now and use
code netters. That's N-E-T-T-E-R-S when you sign up and you get a $1,500 new player offer.
How much more can they give you?
This is getting ridiculous.
That MGM make it legendary.
All right.
We really talked that one to the filter.
It was worth it.
It was worth it and it needed to happen.
One of the other huge ones, you know what?
Let's finish with Robo and just quickly say the Simone Nemech deal because I just wanted to bring up this one specific thing.
Nemich signs in Calgary after that trade.
Five years, 7.25 mil AAV.
I wanted to bring this up only because good job, Calgary, getting that done.
Yep.
Yep.
This is the new era.
Yeah.
We're seeing it with Clarkie's deal, with Mitchik's deal, Nemick's deal, and on top of that, the Leo Carlson offer sheet.
I am all of these guys, dude, gone, in my opinion, is the day of people regularly signing seven, eight-year deals because it is so exciting to think, like Leo, dude.
Leo Carlson is going to make more money than anyone in the NHL.
Yeah.
Because he is going to sign this five-year deal, make fucking 90-mill.
and then when he's 26
be up for a new deal.
It's insane.
And then you sign a seven-year deal,
which is crazy,
because that'll be until he's like
fucking 33, 34,
and he'll probably sign another one.
But it's like,
I do think all these guys
who at like 21 used to sign
these seven-eight-year deals,
they're all going to sign five now.
Yeah.
And it's actually, it's smart.
It's smart.
I don't know why teams do,
like, I mean,
maybe their camp is refusing.
Like, maybe these players are like,
I will not sign more than five.
But I'm like, in my experience,
players devour
term. And I think these teams are dumb. Like, I'm like, signed them for seven, dude. You need to
minimize the amount of contracts. And again, I want the players to get paid. It's kind of similar to,
like, the draft pick consistency. Wouldn't you agree that most, I don't know what category we're
putting large contracts in, but wouldn't you agree that most of them by the time they're up,
people are like, nice? Not like, oh shit, now we've got to pay them even more. I'd say it's less
It's hard for me to think about contracts ever being like this, man, that was a steal.
It's like maybe like 50% at most.
Yeah.
So I'm like, dude for, yeah, I think it behooves teams to do five.
Yeah, okay, fine.
You get out of it earlier.
Listen, like either, you know, they are awesome.
I guess these numbers are so palatable to me.
Like these ones, I'm like, for sure.
Like Leo, yes, I don't want to sign.
But again, Leo is not a good.
That is such an insane outlier.
But like, I think it's just like, it's good for, good for the goose.
Like Clarkie?
I'm like, if you could get Clarkie for fucking 15 years at seven, I'd be like, oh yeah, done.
It's amazing.
So I'm like, dude.
So congrats to NAMIC.
That's an awesome deal.
Okay, let's get into Jason Robertson.
This, can I be honest?
I'm tired of this.
Dude, Jason Roberts, this is, this is Netters.
I'm so tired of this shit.
This is Netters crossover.
I don't know.
There's people out here that are going to get this.
This is my Anaya Casey.
Yeah.
I am so over.
Jason Robertson and the Dallas Stars are Anaya and Casey.
And I'm so done with all.
I want to give, I want to shout out our bowl.
Bobby Gucci. Have you seen any of these?
No.
Heat Daddy, shout out,
Home by 3,
but Rob has been
like daily. He's been tweeting
shit like,
I gotta find it.
But he's basically tweeting like, so
here's my understanding
of the Jason Robertson situation.
Either Jason Robertson
and the Dallas Stars can
come to an agreement and he will sign there
and continue to be a Dalstar player.
or he as an RFA might get traded
and then he might play for another team.
But if he does sign a contract with Dallas,
he will remain in Dallas.
And there's a chance, however,
that if he gets traded,
he will be playing for another team.
And he's just making fun of every fucking knobhead journo
who is daily being like,
as it stands with Jason Robertson,
I'm like, you don't know, fuck all, dude.
Everyone shut up.
Like, I don't want to see Jason Robertson's name
on my timeline,
a deal of some sort.
Yeah, unless it says year X money.
Yes.
I am so tired of this.
And frankly, I'm also tired of it from him and from, or let's call it his camp.
Yeah.
And from the stars.
Like, you guys, this is so fucking pathetic when this shit happens.
It's like either come to an agreement or don't, dude.
Like, move the fuck off.
I think they lost him.
Team was on a company trip.
He got stranded.
They don't know where he is.
So they're just stalling.
Like, he's out in the desert somewhere.
We were doing a trip and we don't know where he is.
We know where he is.
He will be right there.
Give me one second.
Dan, I have a take for you.
I meant to bring this up earlier.
I wish, you brought this up when you were like, they ruined Fourth of July.
And this always happens because the way the NFL season works, you've got to finish the fucking season, which goes so goddamn long.
And we're adding games.
And then we've got to get these guys free agency started.
But then it fucks up the Fourth of July.
I actually wish that free agency, you know, in soccer,
there's a transfer window.
Yeah.
I wish free agency was like,
it's open July 1st
and closes at midnight on July 3rd.
So it was like, it's like,
get it done, dude,
you fucking idiots.
Like, oh, we're hemming and hauling
with Robos still.
I'm like, okay,
well, then he can't play next year
for anyone if he has unsigned
by January 3rd.
Yeah.
And then they call us.
And they go, like,
we get a call at 1158
and go, do you want to play
right wing for the stars?
Because we're fucked.
And I go, I'll be right there.
Because I would love that.
It's like a stock market.
Just get it done, dude.
Like all this bullshit, it's like the Malcolm Gladwell thing.
Your first instinct was the right instinct the whole time.
You know, like fucking pick your number.
What do you want?
Sit down at the table and go get it done.
Hammer it out.
Boom.
And if you don't,
Robo won't sign,
then you go,
okay, see,
I got to call somebody else.
We don't have time for this.
Yep.
So Jason Robertson is going to be going to head to arbitration,
which any player will tell you fucking sucks.
This means that he cannot be off-sheeted unless it comes before the hearing,
which is interesting because I believe the hearing is set to go between July 20th and August 1st.
So he is.
shitload of time to get offer sheeted. There's so much time to get offer sheeted. So team should still do that.
The reports are that Robo roughly wants 14 mil. The stars are okay with 12. Blabble. It's the same
fucking shit we've been hearing all summer long. And dude, it's like a lover scorn. Like,
listen, if he wanted to marry you, he would marry you. Yeah. And I'm sorry, dude. They have 9.7
in Capspace.
They've got, I mean, like Nate Bastion, Michael Bunting,
Adam Ernie, all are UFA.
I don't know what their deal is going to be.
But there's clear that they,
it's clear that they have shit that they need to do.
But I'm sorry, dude, if you wanted Jason Robinson,
you would get him.
And nothing has changed.
There is a part of me that's, if I were them,
I understand it'd be a little annoyed with him
in that like, Ranton ends up 12.
Just signed 12.
Especially because you said this,
once they chose, once they extended Rantanin, that was their choice.
I was basically going, we are choosing Rantan over you.
If you want to stay, then you are certainly coming in at most equal to Rantanin, if not
fucking less.
And if you want more than that good day, we made our choice.
It's like, it's also in Texas, brother.
Take that $12,000 million.
And yeah, if I were, if I were Dallas, I'd be a little frustrated with him.
And I'd be like, fuck off, dude.
Like, you're traded.
Yep.
So, yeah, I suppose my message to Dallas is like, are you,
fucking seriously taking this guy to arbitration, dude.
Ah, man, and that sucks.
It sucks. Because also he's
UFA now. Yeah. And I'm like, do you think
after all, I mean, it is, one
thing that has become, in my opinion, clear
is that he is so desperate to stay in Dallas.
And that's weird too, though,
because I'm like, are you? If you are,
to your point, take the 12 and be happy. What are you
going to get 14 from Montreal? That's what I'm saying.
Okay, you just got less money. If you want
to be in Dallas, take the fucking deal. It is
preposterous to me that this has continued to go on
and we're adding, we're part of the
problem. We're talking about it. I actually, this is now, dude, my eyes are opening right now. I'm
just realizing the key to everything. The key to the entire NHL offseason was Love Island.
They are Melanie and sincere. They're addicted to each other, but they're actually not right
for each other. But the problem is us, everyone in the world going like this, make it work.
You can do it. I support you guys. We love it. And it's like, dude. No, that's why I'm saying,
move on. No, no. Break up. If I'm down, I'm like, move on, dude. To fucking trade the guy.
Because here's the thing.
He has no protection, dude.
So fucking trade him wherever the fuck you want.
And get something back for him.
Because I'm sick of this.
I'm sick of hearing all the shit about him.
I'm sick of hearing like he's this, he's that, he's whatever.
And frankly, if all that stuff is true and you're Dallas and you believe it, why haven't you traded him?
Why are you going to arbitration?
So I think this is super annoying.
I want it to end.
I'm done.
Dude, would you think, you know how sometimes hockey teams have done this, college hockey teams
done this, frats have done this.
There's all these hazing events.
And then there's always that one event where it goes, you know, show up with a spoon and, like, close you're not ready to, that you can ruin and like six and a, and everyone's like, oh, God.
And then it's like, surprise, ice cream Sunday night.
You know, and it's like actually a fun one.
It's like, the hockey, you're going to run three miles.
And it's like, actually we're playing flip cup all day.
Let's fucking go.
And you're like, yes.
I actually think it would be sick if the stars were like arbitration.
And Robertson's like, Christ, here we go.
I get to go sit down while they tell me all the reasons I suck.
And they're like, and this, like, fancy lawyers come here.
and he's ready to fight and they just go seven by 14.
And he goes, oh, I mean, hell yeah.
That's possible because like Robo files for arbitration.
Yeah.
There is a chance that this happens.
And maybe this is like Robo's final bluff.
I don't know, but I'm just.
I think it's surprised ice cream Sunday day and he's going to get all his money.
Okay, I like it.
And I'm happy for it.
All right, let's take another quick ad break and then close things out with a beer league hotline.

It is not debatable.
Ask any Lucy user, myself included, and they will tell you the same thing.

Lucy products are only for adults of legal age and every customer is age-verified. This product contains nicotine and nicotine is an addictive chemical.
All right, before we close things out with a nice beer league hotline,
I do want to just pour one out because we're enjoying the World Cup.
We're having a blast.
I want to pour one out for Jordan Henderson.
Dude, I...
That's got to be one of the craziest things I've ever seen in my time.
I hadn't seen it.
You texted and I was like, what happened?
I read the article and I was like, no way.
Then I saw them kind of all pig piling and I assumed there was just a rogue body weight situation.
Then I finally found a tweet of the video of it happening.
first of all brutal break it looks terrible he like really broke his arm oh my god and it's so funny
sorry it's not funny it's so weird because it's not i mean he himself he's an elite elite athlete
he's who's won at every single level and he will be the first to laugh about being like the fact
that i broke my arm doing that is so embarrassing but when you watch it his left hand just completely
slips off that clearly wet ad barrier and then just like lands right on it and it just fucking
snips.
Ah, I did.
But that is, I mean, the guy was kind of a vibes pick for this World Cup squad.
And when you've got players like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer and shit like this who are
being left home because Jordan Henderson needs to be in that locker.
And he fucking shatters his arm jumping over an advertisement.
It is so brutal.
Here's a question.
They don't, you don't fill that spot, right?
No, no, no.
So my question is, they go, he's out the rest of the World Cup.
Fine.
He probably wasn't playing.
He has not played a single second.
This is what I'm saying.
He probably wasn't going to play ever anyway.
So now he's somehow even more of a glue guy to me.
Like now he's in the locker.
He's like, God, he's like, oh, my boy, I broke my fucking arm.
Dude, and he's going to be in a full hard cast.
Oh, yeah.
That is, that screws, pal.
That was probably a compression fracture.
Like, that was so bad.
Yeah, that screws.
So, yeah, somehow he's an even more of a locker room guy.
now that he's jacked up on morphine with fucking Frankenstein arm.
Yeah, it is so bad.
That's the guy I'm bringing to the World Cup, dude.
And I just like, I'm, I mean, if I'm Brentford too, I'm like,
Gordo, what are you doing?
Like, did you just break your arm?
It's like, when Jordan Henderson goes saying, and you're Brentford, you're like this,
well, nice, we don't have to worry about him getting injured.
Yeah.
And then he's like, I did.
I did actually shatter my arm.
I did break my arm.
I'm retiring.
So bad.
All right, Ev, close us on out here with a nice beer league hotline.
Okay.
I was the goalie on the same beer league team for seven years.
We won the title three times and went to the final six times.
I've been playing with the captain since we were seven years old.
Last season, we lost three, two in the semis, and the next day my friend cut me.
He said I wasn't focused, excuse me.
He said I wasn't focused enough because I messaged our team chat at 4 p.m. before a 10 p.m. game
asking who was on beer that night?
Apparently that meant I wasn't locked in.
This season, they are currently winless and had to forfeit three games because they didn't have a goalie.
What is going on here?
They hate you, I think.
I think they don't like you.
Is that correct?
You know, every now and then, when people see things, some Blake
statements about friend groups and it's like, oh, every friend group has the donkey.
Yep.
No one really digs.
And you go like this, my friend group doesn't have that.
Bad news, pal.
Well, you should start eating hay because you are the donkey.
This is this guy's moment of realizing that he is the worst locker room vibe on planet.
It's the rounders line.
If you haven't seen rounders, go see it.
If at the first 10 minutes, you can't spot the sucker at the table, you're the sucker.
You are the sucker, pal.
But Dan, he's been playing with this guy since they were seven.
They're clearly buddies.
Christopher, well, that doesn't mean anything.
It might just mean that you're from the same town.
Maybe this guy, this goalie, has been lingering around this captain for fucking 20 years.
Now, I don't want to assume all of this, but I am saying, do you have any idea how drastic a situation needs to be to cut attendee?
Yeah, correct.
I mean, you need to be.
Especially without one waiting in the wings.
You need to be in hell to be like, I am actively cutting a tending who's taking.
taken us to the semifinal six.
How long did he say he's been playing beer?
So, yeah, they've been playing on the same team for seven years.
And they've gone to the final six of the seven.
They won the title three times and went to the final six times.
And he's a good player.
And it feels like this semifinal loss is the one year.
Like they just lost in the sevens three, two.
So I'm like, and you didn't even get lit up.
It's not like they lost eight nothing in the semies.
They lost three two in a beer league game.
That's three goals.
The is a great.
Well, I thought three two might have been the games.
No, no.
I bet it was just the game.
You're not doing seven game series or five game series in beer leagues.
That'll be guess.
Oh, you're not?
No, no, no, no.
That would be gas.
Our league used to do best to feed in the final, but they don't do it.
I, man, I regret to inform you that you are, you are despised on this team.
This group of guys hate you.
What do you do here?
Like, is there any avenue to go, boys, you don't even have a goalie?
talking about. Yeah, I mean, do you assume that he's on a new team? I imagine. No, it's, it felt,
it felt, reading that felt like he is not. He would have, I feel like he would have said. By the way,
I'm, I'm undefeated on my other team. It felt like an auto mission to not say, and I'm now on
another team. Because goalie is kind of hard just to be like, anyone need a goalie? For sure.
For sure. But I'm, especially not you. Everyone's no, dude. Like, no, no offense to
Artenney, he was one of our dear friends. But if like the team that won the ships, or went to the
ship six years in a row, their goalie was all of a sudden a free agent, I'd at least be like,
hey pal you're doing a tandem with this guy yeah yeah right right yeah so so why isn't the other
teams in the league called because we don't know that yeah we're not going to focus on that
yeah because i i assume he's on another team okay okay and frankly it fits his personality because he
he's not being personal about this like he's he's genuinely being like what's going on
i think a petty person would be like and i'm on a new team and i'm doing this well like i think this guy's
like yeah i mean like i i just want to know what happened
Dude, I'm pretty sure to, let me see if I can find this submission.
I can't fathom how shitty this dude must be in the locker room.
Okay, so this was also in this submission.
Oh.
You're omitting things from us?
There's so long.
He also brought the beer that night.
So after going, anyone on beer, no one answers.
He goes, I'll do it, brings the beer himself.
And then they go, you've been cut for asking who was on beer six hours.
Chris. Chris. Like, what a guy. He's actually the man.
I think, yeah. I agree with you, Chris.
They fucking hate this dude. He asked who's on beer and they all ignored him.
Maybe. Maybe they said you. Maybe they said you're on beer. All I know is he brought the beer.
They either ignored him and he took it upon himself or they went like this. You are.
You're an unreliable narrator right here because you do you just said they ignored him and then he brought beer.
Like what is the message? I just told you. He said, I brought the beer.
okay well so then we're going to assume that he was ignored because otherwise why would you bring beer
if they maybe they answered went like this you are on beer okay so either way they hate him
yeah that's what i'm saying either either they ignored him like they're willing to let beer not be
brought because they're like no one respond to this guy or they just immediately went like this
you bring beer you fucking loser and also for asking you're cut you're fired yeah they hate this guy
how do you fix it how do you become cooler
I mean, we have to find the root problem.
We could come up with jokes.
We'll find a link of jokes.
Actually, dude, I can't even, my mind's in a pretzel because goalies inherently, sorry, Sway, because you are the anomaly, are weird.
Yep.
If you are a good goaltender, I do not care how weird you are.
So this dude must be truly horrendous to be around.
But he isn't.
Oh, oh, to be around.
Yeah, I thought you meant that goal.
I was like he isn't.
To be around.
Otherwise, this is insaneo behavior.
And here's another one where I'm going to say, if this story sounds familiar to your team,
I need- Follow-up.
I need players on this team to follow up instantly and tell us what is going on.
Yeah.
Like, was this, did this goaltender fuck this guy's wife?
Yeah.
And this is a personal issue?
Like, to me, it's either that you're right and this goalie has a shit personality,
in which case I'm sorry.
Yeah.
But also it could just be that this captain is kind of a fucking dick.
I mean, maybe he's spiteful because they lost in the semis and just automatically, you know, turned on the kid.
I thought about that, but if you care that much about wins or losses, I think you would be smart enough to know that deading your goalie is not the move.
Especially now that they have no goalie on three games.
You don't have one, which is strange.
So, yeah, I don't know.
But you're right.
And we've gone too long without addressing.
could be a personal grudge.
Yeah. That is actually what it is. So you ask
what is going on here? My answer is
either buddy, you're a brutal hang
and that sucks and I'm sorry and
hit us up, we can work on it. Yep.
And also teammates hit us up
and confirm or deny that. Yep.
Or this is a personal grudge because
I promise you this
is not above board. You are not cut
for a lack of
attention or focus.
That is not what happened. Yeah, that's
bullshit. Excuse.
That's that.
That's that.
And look inside because if there's a skeleton in your closet with you and this guy,
then you've got to figure this out and fix it.
Correct.
All right.
