Autumn Dural-Arquipaw made history Sunday night as the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography.
The 46-year-old American picked up the award for her stunning work on Ryan Couglas film's centers.
Her past projects include Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, and a Rihanna music radio.
The cinematography world has changed a lot since Archipa got started.
She once struggled to find female role.
models beyond folks like Ellen Curris. Before her, just three women earned nominations,
Rachel Morrison in 2018 for Mudbound, Ari Wegener for the Power of the Dog and Mandy.
Walker for Elvis. Archipa is also the first woman of color to get one. This milestone shows real
progress for women behind the camera. Sinners broke new ground too as the first movie shot on
IMAX film by a woman. Arquipa says, seeing more women tackle big formats will encourage

From Northern California, she first studied art history at Loyola Marymount University.
