Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are in for some disappointing news.
Sarah Michelle Geller, who played the original Slayer, just announced that Hulu has canceled the revival series called New Sunnydale.
She shared the update herself in an Instagram video over the weekend, saying she wanted fans to hear it straight from her.
The project had some real promise early on.
Oscar winner Chloe Zhao directed the pilot and even convinced Geller to return after years of hesitation.
Geller credited Zao for reminding her why she loved the character so much and getting her excited to step back into those boots.
The original Buffy series aired for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003.
It also spun off Angel, which ran five seasons starting in 1999.
Revival talks heated up earlier this year, with Galear confirming interest back in February,
after a key meeting with Zhao and writers from Pokerface.
Things progressed with casting too.
In May, young actress Ryan Kira Armstrong was announced as the new slayer starring alongside Geller.
The team planned a lighter tone than the later original seasons,
blending old and new characters while updating themes like feeling like an outsider.
In a social media world,
Geller ended on a hopeful note, thanking fans and joking that she could still be reached if the apocalypse hits.
Entertainment Weekly reached out to Hulu for more details, but no word yet on why it fell through.
