The Academy Awards have been around for nearly a century, but just nine women have ever landed a Best Director nomination. That's a tiny number out of hundreds of ceremonies. This year, Chloe Zhao made headlines with her second nod for Hamnet, a film about Shakespeare's family grieving their son's death. She joins Jane Campion as the only other woman to get nominated twice. Zhao first won in 2021 for Nomad Land,
