Judy Pace, the trailblazing actress and model, has passed away at age 83.
Her daughters announced she died peacefully in her sleep on March 11th, while visiting family
in Marina del Rey, California.
She started as a model, becoming the youngest ever in the Ebony Fashion Fair tour back in
1961 and 1962.
Pace broke into films with her debut in 1963 and became the first black woman signed to a
contract at Columbia Studios. Her standout roles included Vicki Fletcher on Payton Place and Pat
Walters on the Young Lawyers, where she earned an NAACP Image Award in 19. 70. She also
shown in the hit TV movie Brian's song as Gail Sayers' wife, drawing 55 million viewers. Pace guest
starred on shows like Bewitched, I Spy, and Sanford and Son, with her last role in beauty and the
Baller in 2017. In 1971, she co-founded the Kwanza Foundation,
with Nichelle Nichols to support black women in film and art scholarships.
She has survived by her two daughters, a grandson, and a son-in-law.
The family asked for donations to the N-WACP in her honor.
