Week 10. We're in the double-digit
weeks, baby. 20-21
NFL season and the Fantasy Points podcast,
it's Tuesday morning, so you know
what that means. It's time to break down,
all the injuries. I'm Joe Dolan. He's Edwin-Borris Doctor of Physical Therapy, and he's our resident
injury expert at FantasyPoint.com. And what we're going to do is we're going to talk about the things
that happened from an injury perspective. In the last week of football, maybe some guys coming back.
It's great to be with you here, everybody. Just a reminder that FantasyPoints.com is half off.
Our typical rates, why? Because the season is half over. So if you go to FantasyPoints.com and you put in the code 21
porous 10. You get an extra 10% off. And believe me, I think you will be glad you did. Edwin,
it's good to be with you, my friend here. And fortunately, it doesn't seem like we have a ton to talk
about, at least from injuries from a fantasy relevant player perspective. Yeah, there's not a whole lot.
Obviously, Edmonds. We can talk a little bit about Russ coming back and how much he'll cook.
So, yeah, I don't, I don't have any clever puns this week, Joe, other than the football suck this
weekend. Yeah, it was really bad. And then last night, you know, we had the the taunting call that really
screwed up that entire game. And, you know, there's nobody who wants to see that. I mean,
anyway, we can, there's probably plenty of other things complaining about the officiating or the
rules or whatever. We're just going to talk injuries. Edwin, you mentioned it. Let's start with
it just because it's in the news, of course, in true Russell Wilson fashion.
He announces that he's coming back with like this dramatic, you know, faux dramatic video.
But Russell Wilson will play this weekend.
Now, of course, we don't know if he'll be playing against Aaron Rogers.
But Russell Wilson will be playing this weekend against Green Bay as he returns from Mallet Finger.
And obviously that's good news for D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett.
And when I know this is not a common injury, I don't know if you've seen it.
But what can we expect from Russell Wilson?
Overall, the thing with Russell Wilson is you worry about range of motion,
you worry about strength and functional grip on the football.
Six weeks is pretty quickly, is a pretty quick return.
And the thing about this injury specifically is that there wasn't a lot,
and I talked about it when it happened.
There's not a lot you can do other than hold it in place and wait for that tissue to heal.
Six weeks is pretty quick, but if he had nothing else to do, but rehab, recover, rehab, recover,
there's probably some sort of difference between him and the average Joe who needs at least six weeks,
if not eight or nine.
So, I mean, it's not to say that he's 100% necessary, necessarily.
We're going to see pretty quickly how he feels once he gets the ball, whip in and throw
inside sideline, sideline.
We're going to know how healthy that finger is.
So it's one of those things where he's,
probably okay. You know, he's probably cleared and ready to go. But there is always that off
chance that he's not quite 100%. And we might see that in his, in his passing numbers. But overall,
yeah, I mean, I think we can say that Russell Wilson's back now. On the other hand,
I consulted with Joe Rogan about whether Aaron Rogers would be back and we're just not quite sure yet.
All right. Well, yeah, when you get the response there, let me know. Here's a question again.
I don't know if you can answer. Is there any chance of a recurrence for Russell Wilson?
then. You know, I wouldn't necessarily call it a recurrence. It would be more so he's still not getting
the zip on the ball. He still didn't have control and accuracy. And that would be something that,
I mean, you could have a setback from that, but really it would be more so like, okay,
it's pretty evident that he's not ready yet. Yeah. So it's not going to, it's not something that
it's like, it's going to be the same injury essentially. Yeah, not necessarily. Not necessarily. That was,
I mean, there is always a chance for occurrence for for all injuries. And it could, you know, he could, he could actually,
It could happen.
I'll put it that way, Joe.
I don't want to get into the details.
It's just, it's pretty, I don't want to like over explain.
He could have the same injury in the same type of mechanism and he could technically
re-injure that, that tendon.
And this is his, for the first week back is probably the most likely for that to happen.
All right.
So, Edwin, another quarterback this weekend who apparently didn't practice all weekend is dealing
with a back injury is Matthew Stafford.
Now, back injuries have plagued him in the past.
He's missed time with them.
And I think as anybody who's in their 30s and beyond will be able to tell you, back problems just don't go away.
Matthew Stafford has had them.
What can you read from Stafford here?
Did you see anything in the game that would indicate that he was struggling with it?
What's the situation here with Matthew Stafford?
Yeah, so Stafford didn't look, I mean, obviously in Tyram's office didn't look great.
but this is actually an ankle injury that he picked up.
And it was in.
Oh, I'm sorry.
That's right.
Yeah, yeah.
No,
no,
that's okay.
As an ankle injury picked up after the fact,
Sean McVeigh came out and said,
you know,
we're hopeful that he's going to play,
blah,
blah, blah,
gave you a bunch of coach speak.
It doesn't seem too serious.
I remember seeing it live when it happened,
and I didn't see anything extraordinary.
I don't,
I need to double check before I,
before I tell everybody,
whether it was medial or a lateral ankle sprain.
So I need to double check and go,
go watch the time stamp there.
But typically these quarterbacks can survive an ankle sprain that doesn't look like
Kyler Murray's did.
So I'll need to go back and double check.
I think Stafford could be ready to come back.
He always plays through like everything.
Stafford is like just a warrior.
He plays through everything.
So I wouldn't anticipate him being out quite yet, but I'll have more up on the site later today.
When he was a rookie, he like threw a touchdown pass with a separated shoulder.
I mean, this guy is a badass. Matthew Stafford, one of the toughest guys in the NFL.
You mentioned Kyler Murray, but let's just rehash that because obviously he did miss a game.
And they still don't know about his status for this coming week. Colt McCoy comes out, plays well,
quarterbacks him to a victory. So the Cardinals have the luxury of not having to rush Kyler Murray
because you know you have a competent backup quarterback. Just to rehash, just recap what you said about
Kyler Murray last week. What did you see from his injury? Yeah, that Kyler Murray injury was a medial
ankle sprain. It was, you know, kind of high ankle-ish. It's really difficult to determine the
difference between what an E-Virgin ankle sprain and medial ankle sprain and a high ankle sprain because
they're so similar. It just takes a little bit more rotation to get a true high ankle. And these
are really slow to heal, man. Like these are these are stubborn. They take time. And even for
professional athletes, you know, because of blood flow and the blood supply to that area is so
minimal, it just takes some time. Now, Kyler Murray has had at this point, he's going to have had
17 days to get back from it. And like you said, they have a competent backup. They ended up,
you know, being fine this weekend. Surprisingly, it was the most surprising thing of the weekend,
I think for me, without Kyler Murray. And especially if they want to encourage his rushing and they
want to use that as a part of the scheme continued. They also saw quote from Kingsbury that
they want to take the quote big picture route with with murray so i wouldn't say he's a slam dunk to
come back usually these for quarterbacks even can and rushing quarterbacks especially can be up to a
one to two week injury even up to three weeks so we'll see what the cardinals decide um we know diondrey
hopkins is also dealing with that hamstring that's actually legitimate this time so the cardinals are
sort of in a state of um they can do what they think they need to do um considering they're sitting atop the nfc west
and so I wouldn't necessarily anticipate he's active this week,
but, you know, NFL teams have done crazier things,
and he's going to have had two weeks to recover.
I know I'm basically waffling back and forth.
What I'm saying is if he does come back,
I do think that he's going to be a little bit limited in the rushing department.
They might cap his design runs and stuff like that.
And as fantasy players know,
Kyler Murray, like, the rushing's been down anyway.
So he's just been kind of like, quite frankly, a pocket passer from fantasy perspectives.
I mean, he hasn't been running in recent.
I don't think he's run for a touchdown since week three.
So obviously, that is notable from a fantasy sports perspective.

Another high ankle sprain, it looks like, on the Arizona Cardinals is that of Chase Edmonds,
missed basically Edwin the entire game in week nine.
and James Connor went ham in that game.
And then Eno Benjamin, we might have to analyze the injury to the soul that Eno Benjamin put on the poor 49ers defender that he trucked.
But Chase Edmonds, it looks like it might be a sprain of the high ankle variety.
And we have heard tale that he could be put on IR, though I don't think he's been put on IR yet.
Yeah, usually those moves will come.
They typically come literally the second we hang up this call.
So I would anticipate that would probably happen.
They did come out already and say, Adam Schaeffer said it's going to be three to four weeks,
which matches up with my data that I have.
We've talked about ad nauseum all season long.
So I would anticipate this being, you know, roughly a three to four week injury, just like they're saying.
This is where things might get dicey with James Connor as you increase his exposures,
as you increase the amount of touches he's going to get, as you probably up his snap count.
I'll be curious to see what happens with James Connor.
I don't like to predict injuries because I can't.
I'm not,
nobody can predict injuries.
However,
James Connor has had a major connective tissue injury,
I believe five out of the last six calendar years.
And he's done fine up to now,
which I'm totally happy for.
I hope the guy stays healthy.
I would also say maybe,
you know,
Benjamin,
week winner,
if James Connor were to go down because James Conner just hasn't shown us
that he can stay healthy quite yet due to connect with tissue issues.
So there's a little bit of a stash for everybody.
The Patriots backfield, a couple of guys dinged up both Damian Harris and Ramandre Stevenson.
Yeah, weirdly enough, Joe, they both went down with concussions, head injuries.
And so this is the first concussion that I can see that Damian Harris has had since he's been in the league.
And the same thing with Ramondry Stevenson, I haven't seen based on my cursory search that he's had a concussion before.
But we know how these go.
The same thing was the case for Terrace Marshall and Terrace Marshall.
of being out for a while.
You've seen what's going on with Tyrell Williams.
I believe that was his first documented concussions.
So these concussions are wildcards.
I can give you the numbers at 0.86 games is the average missed time and that the mode is zero missed games that most people are in the first concussion.
Most players don't miss any time at all.
But, I mean, we really just don't know.
You're going to have to watch the practice reports.
You're going to have to watch their, you're going to have to watch participation in practice and how they're making it through the concussion protocol.
but yeah, this is looking to be, I don't know, J.J. Taylor season. I don't know if both of these backs miss.
I don't know who you would want out there from the Illinois and backfield.
Yeah, and Zach Moss, the same thing again. With concussions, there's really nothing you can do,
Edwin, to just to say, oh, he's going to be back this week or next week. There's no timetable for these.
Right, exactly. There's no timetable. Now, you know, if I were to be optimistic, I would say,
you know, it's their first concussion. Like I said,
a lot of times dudes can get over this, but I don't want to sit here and guarantee it because,
you know, sometimes players do surprise us. Players do miss a lot more time than you would
anticipate them to. But yeah, the only thing I'm seeing for Amandra Stevenson, even two, is just
a foot fracture in 2015. So hopefully these guys can make it back, but you're going to have to really
watch the practice reports leading up to even like Sunday morning to see if they are going to
clear protocol. An injury you did see and you can analyze was that for Trevor Lawrence, who left
briefly against the bills and the big upset victory, but then returned with what they're calling,
I guess a low ankle sprain. Yeah, so he's had, he had this low ankle sprain, came back. Typically
quarterbacks with mild sprains, what they're calling do okay. It, you know, I don't know how much
to trust Irvin Meyer at this point, but he did say that Lauren should, you know, should be back
for week 10. And it's one of those things that's probably just more nothing than it is something.
And I don't know how many people were actually even starting Trevor Lawrence,
but I mean, if you're really desperate, I think he should be okay for week 10.
And yeah, I think that's about it.
Anything else that we didn't get to?
No, Joe.
I just hate fantasy football.
I had a rough week, man.
It was one of those weeks where I was in first place in my longtime Keeper League
and my team just took a complete crap this week and I lost to the 0-18.
Oaf, that'll do it for you.
I mean, it was one of those weeks, though, where,
the bad teams beat the good teams in both NFL and in real life by the way so it was a bad fantasy
week man i understand um you're you're you're having a rough go of it in our dynasty league
oh god oh am i ever oh am i ever but you're uh you are stockpiling picks i believe yes i'm
stockpiling fix i got to hit the reset button i traded you lamar jackson just a couple months
ago i think like in august whatever that was yeah i'm in first place now but you have my
first round pick the next two years so yep yep gonna have to rebuild this from the ground man this
is this is going to be a fun rebuild.
Yeah, I'm going to have to like start selling off some pieces, by the way here.
Like just to, well, we'll see.
I'm going for it right now.
I'm impatient.
So I'm going for it right now.
Hey, you know, flags fly forever, right, Edwin?
I mean, that's the way it goes.
Yep.
All right, my friend, thank you very much to Edwin Porras.
At FB injury doc on Twitter.
21 Porras 10 gets you an extra 10% off at FantasyPoint.com.
Thank you to Edwin.
We'll talk to him next week.
We're going to talk to Tom Broley.
about the waiver wire, not a huge waiver wire week here in fantasy football, but we first have to
listen to Ben Cucanis ramble on about our sponsors.
Thank you very much, Ben, and look, guys, we're doing live-to-ta-tape radio here, live-to-tape
podcasting here, and I think everybody knows we're at about 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9th,
9 a.m. Eastern. Comcast has taken a dump nationwide and it has affected Tom.
I'm on a hot spot. Exactly. Yeah. My AT&T even went out for about 20 minutes. This is about
right around 9 o'clock. Joe, I'm literally driving around looking for data so I can call you and
tell you like, I'm trying to get on the podcast. So thanks, thanks Comcast. Thanks,
T&T, but we're going to try to record this on a hotspot here. So, you know, we're crossing our
fingers and hoping we can get it done. No, well, obviously, Tom. The good news is this is a terrible
waiver wire. So, you know, there's not a whole lot to talk about this week. Well, that's great.
So before we drop you to the waiver wire, let's just get right into it, Tom. There is like,
there, and by the way, there was no real major injuries to talk about with Edwin, at least from a
fantasy perspective. So, I mean, let's go to the running back position. Tom, this is what it's saying
right now. I mean, this is where we're at. Devante Freeman is our top target on the Waver
wire this week. I mean, that's where we're at right now with the Waver Wire that DeVante Freeman,
who, I mean, has just been a cast off until he looked pretty good this past week is our top
target. Yeah, I mean, and the problem is it's still not even that great in that backfield. If we have
Levyon Bell, still seeing a healthy number of touches.
Tyson Williams is around.
So the good news is they play on a short week this week.
You know, they head down to Miami for Thursday night football.
Looks like Latavius Murray is going to be out of the picture again here.
So if you need a one week fill in here, you know,
and he has some upside for the rest of the year.
He's running a bit hot.
He's scored touchdowns in, I think, three consecutive games.
So running hot from that perspective.
but he's at least looked the best in this backfield of, you know, really old running back.
So he's at least kind of emerging as the guy here in the Baltimore backfield.
Yeah, one guy who is almost certainly available for you and might have a role.
And this is just going deeper, Tom, if you need somebody to just get you a couple of points here in the coming weeks.
Maybe you have Joe Bixen, David Montgomery, guys who are on by.
Eno Benjamin from the Cardinals.
Oh, man, he absolutely trucked a defender.
for the 49ers, which was fun to watch.
Tom, he's basically available in every league.
Yeah, he's 0% owned in Yahoo! Ligs.
Obviously, Edmonds and James Connor were kind of taking all the carries there.
Looks like Edmonds, you know, has a high ankle sprain, so he's going to be, you know,
I would think that he's a candidate for the IR here later this week and will probably be
out at least three weeks.
So, you know, I don't know if they, I think they came in.
into the season, they kind of wanted to use James Connor in a part-time role. Last week's game
kind of dictated that they feed him the ball, and he certainly played well. He's going to be
the guy in this backfield. But I think they'll work, you know, Benjamin in more in the upcoming
weeks while Edmonds is out of the picture. So I don't know exactly what that means. You know,
he's more a stash, quite honestly, right now to see if, you know, if he gets a significant playing time
bump here in week 10.
I don't know if he can really go in a lot of that.
That's just telling you what we're dealing with here on the waiver wire right now.
Yeah.
Yeah.
One guy going a little deeper here, Ty Johnson, he's pretty widely available.
And he's been making plays.
Now, the bad news is it sounds like Kevin Coleman might be back in this backfield this week.
But, you know, he's been kind of playing that passing back role for the Jets here.
And, you know, the quarterback situation has lended itself to more checkdowns to the running.
back. So if you're looking for a deeper PPR guy, maybe Ty Johnson is somebody that might be
intriguing for you. The wide receiver position might have the more interesting options this
week, Tom. A younger, two younger guys and one affected by the O'Dell Beckham situation. Elijah Moore
had a little bit of a coming out party on Thursday night football against the Colts. Meanwhile,
Donovan People's Jones is the guy filling in for and frankly, doing better than Odell Beckham
junior. Yeah, the problem is, you know, with both of these guys, their roles, I mean, Donovan
People's Jones rule should continue to grow here, but he's not going to be a high volume type of
receiver. We've seen all year that they want to rotate these receivers, but he's at least the top
guy across from Jarvis Landry right now, and he's made a couple of big plays here. You know,
he picked up an odd groin injury right before the Thursday night game.
You know, it came out, like, the first drive of the game.
Oh, yeah, he picked up a pre-came injury and is probably not going to play.
But his last, like, three healthy games, he's been, you know, up over 12 fantasy points.
You know, he's a young ascending type of receiver, so you want to get behind these type of players.
So, Darvis Landry's been, you know, off his game recently.
That Steelers game in week eight, he had a couple key drops and a fumble.
last week he had about 25% of the targets and produced 11 yards.
So he hasn't been quite right playing through his knee injury here the last couple of weeks.
So maybe Donovan People Jones kind of is the top receiver here in this run heavy passing offense.
Let's, well, I mean, let's talk Pat Fryer move, Tom, who I think after scoring two touchdowns on Monday night football is going to be basically
one of the big pickups this week, I would think, at a position with, at a position where a lot of people are struggling.
Yeah, the one question there is, is Eric Ebron going to be back in the mix here the next week or two?
But, you know, I think we've seen over the last two games, his performance is three big touchdowns for the Steelers.
He's become a red zone factor, kind of the guy that Ben is looking toward in the end zone there.
and he's kind of preferred these bigger, taller targets in the end zone throughout his career.
And, you know, Farramuth has certainly become that guy the last couple of games here.
So he should stick around here.
And, you know, Dan Arnold's another guy, you know, down in Jacksonville now.
He was with Carolina Panthers earlier this year.
You know, it's been weird in the Jacksonville passing game.
He's all of a sudden been the top target.
Marvin Jones is struggling to get open.
He's starting to show his age a little bit.
Levisca Chanel, it's just not happening for that guy.
He got moved from the slot.
He's playing on the perimeter, not creating it all.
So it's kind of been Dan Arnold and Jamal Agnew a little bit for the Jaguars.
And Arnold's, you know, he's been getting a lot of targets here.
If you're looking for a little bit of help at tight end, you know, he's certainly, you know,
that's all we can ask for, you know, tight end.
streamers off the waiver water, you know, just give us like six to eight targets.
Like that's a godsend if we can get six plus targets from a tight end.
So Dan Ardle, let's see in that kind of volume right now.

Tom, one more that I want to get to
before we send you back into the hell world of no internet
is Trey Lance because the 49ers are struggling.
They are now, I mean,
in a really tough spot in the NFC West now
with, you know, Russell Wilson coming back.
Could they make the move to Trey Lance here?
And if they do, he becomes a really appealing fantasy quarterback.
Yeah, I don't know if it's going to come this week.
I think they give Jimmy G one more game here.
They have the Rams coming up on Monday night football.
That's, you know, kind of their last stand for the season, I think.
They've dropped, you know, a couple critical games here.
They're quickly, you know, heading towards a high draft pick next year.
So at some point, they need to go into evaluation mode.
I think it could come after this week.
If they go, if they lose to the Rams, fall to three and six,
they're all but out of it for, well, I guess they could technically,
you know, maybe, you know, that seventh spot in the NFC is pretty wide open right now.
But at some point, you know, you got to start looking toward the future.
They know Jimmy Garoppolo isn't the future.
And they need to get some, you know, get more game reps.
get more live action for Trey Lance here.
So I'm kind of thinking if, you know,
if they do lose to the Rams here this week,
that it's going to be Trey Lance time from week 11 on here.
So, you know, now is the time, you know,
he's been, you know, pretty popular pick back in the summer.
And, you know, it just hasn't, you know,
just played the one game against the Cardinals and got dropped.
And it hasn't started since then.
So he's been dropped in a lot of fantasy leagues.
So maybe now is the time to pick him back.
up and stash them on your bench.
I mean, this is a pretty, you know, there's not a lot of good quarterbacks on by outside
of Joe Burroughs.
So, you know, this is a good week to add to your bench and stash maybe a quarterback.
And, you know, we just went through the waiver wire.
It's not like there's a lot of great options.
So maybe you have a spot on your bench that, you know, is open here this week and you can
stash away.
And, you know, the passing game has looked improved here the last couple of weeks.
Brandon Ayyuk has kind of snapped out of his little fun.
Bunk, George Kittles, back in action, and he was making plays all over the field in week
nine here. So he's going to be stepping into a better environment this time around than in week
five and going against, you know, one of the NFL's best teams on a short week to prepare.
So now's the time to maybe pick up Trey Lance and maybe you'll have something in the second
half of the season with him. Well, presuming Tom gets his internet back at some point today,
He'll be in our staff discord channel,
answering waiver wire questions.
We pop in there on Tuesdays and, you know,
Graham Barfield's in on Wednesdays and Thursdays,
answering start sick questions.
Jules McLean, who's experienced high stakes players,
she's in there all the time.

Tom, thanks for, well, essentially,
plague hurt here on the podcast. I know this wasn't the smoothest pod we've ever had, but, well,

all in there before this drops out here. So I think we did it, Joe. I think we did it. So good luck to
everybody else out there. I'm just hoping I can get some work done the day. I certainly have
enough of it during the, during the week. So I hope everybody is just as productive as I am today.
Hopefully we get some internet back. Well, Tom, just looking at this way, this could have happened on
Wednesday or a Thursday.

Yeah.
So when things really start to happen.
