It's time for the Fantasy Points podcast brought to you by FantasyPoints.com.
Top level fantasy football and NFL betting analysis from every perspective and angle,
from numbers to the film room, with a single goal to help you score more fantasy points.
This is what we're calling the week one market report recap podcast.
My name's Joe Dolan, and I'm with Tom Broly.
Now, I want to explain what this process is because we realize,
like, look, we started up a site during a pandemic, okay?
And our focus is on getting the best content we can possibly get on the Fantasy Points website
as quickly as we could.
But certainly throughout the years, we've realized we haven't been doing things in the most efficient way possible,
I guess you would say, Tom, because this is something, this little podcast that Tom and I are doing,
is something we have done for years, Tom and I, but never actually turned it into content
outside of the market report article, which is on the website,
and we'll continue to be on the website.
But Tom and I realize this off season when we're like,
hey, how can we beef up the Fantasy Points podcast feed?
Well, how about the fact that Tom and I meet early every single Monday morning of the NFL season
to break down what happened that weekend to discuss what should go into our market report column?
And we realized, all right, let's just turn that into a podcast.
So that's what we're doing?
So Tom, what's going on, man?
How are you?
Yeah, we're letting everybody in.
behind the curtains here.
We'll try to clean up the language.
We could, whenever we were doing this behind the scenes, we could get,
the language could get a little salty.
So we'll try to clean it up a little bit.
We'll, you know, but we'll have fun doing this.
This is a good way to kind of recap the week.
You know, I see, there's 13 or 14 games going on every, you know,
every Sunday there when there's no buys.
So some, some things can go through the cracks with me.
Joe might miss a few things.
He's doing the radio program.
You know, he's got to take a piss break every once in a while.
He's on the radio there.
So, you know, there's stuff that we don't catch.
So, you know, this is just a good way to encapsulate everything that just happened on Sunday
and to spin it forward, which is what we do with the market report.
Yeah, and literally what I'm going to be doing as we're talking is kind of taking notes.
And because me, Tom and Graham Barfield are going to, like, split up the article and write
and write the article on the guys we talk about.
So I also have to throw something out there.
Sometimes I'll ask Tom, is he waiver wire?
That's a question like.
And what happens is in the market report,
barring guys who got hurt Tom,
like guys who might be borderline waiver wire who get hurt
and I want to write them up for the market.
If a guy is written up for our waiver wire article,
which is typically what, Tom,
sub 50% rostered,
then we don't write them up for the market report
just so we don't have two just beefy articles,
Yeah, we used to do that back in the old site where we would have guys overlapping.
It's like, why are we writing up, you know, guys twice in the market report and the Waverlarge?
So it's just a way to keep, you know, we're just writing up players once and not overlapping so much.
Yeah, so what we're going to do here is Tom, we're going to, we'll start with the games.
We'll go through.
Oh, did you see this?
Oh, I didn't see that.
Did he get hurt?
Like stuff like that.
And we're going to talk Snap shares and things.
like that with the understanding, Tom, that you don't want to overreact to week one.
No, no, that's, but you also want to have the right amount of concern.
I feel like with backfields are the most, like, because we don't get to see them as much
in the preseason anymore. So anytime we get little nuggets on how teams are thinking about
backfields, I think that's something we want to take closer note on. But, you know, performance
wise and everything, yeah, I don't want to usage. I feel like.
we need to have the proper
battle reaction to, but performance
maybe, you know, things can
change and, you know, no preseason,
these guys aren't getting maybe, you know, maybe as many
reps as they used to. So
that end will probably, you know, we don't want
to go overboard on some of that stuff.
Okay, so I do want to throw this
out there. Just as
an example of how
crazy week one has been,
playoff teams
from week one, played non-playoff
teams
six games.
They were one and five straight up in 0 and 6 ATS, Tom.
So that's an example of how crazy week one can be.
The only win was the Eagles over the Lions.
So just throwing that out there as you color your analysis and a reminder not to overreact to week one,
but also we'll try to go to the situations where we don't want to underreact.
So without further ado, Tom, let's start with the bills and the Rams.
Now, for full disclosure, Tom has already written this game up as part of like his waiver
wire process. Tom, there was a lot to get to with the bills and the rats.
Yeah, we could start with the obvious. That was the backfield. Cam Acres, you know,
terrible usage there. Me, you know, both of us kind of thought that maybe Kieran Williams was
maybe going to play the passing back role before he got injured on the, you know, the opening
kickoff of the game. So it was Henderson at basically 82% of the snaps. Akers ended up playing
18% of the snaps in, you know, the Friday after the game, after, you know,
Sean McVeigh had 24 hours to digest the game.
He basically called out Camakers for a lack of effort in the game.
So it's part of Keeleys, but, you know, maybe it's part effort as well.
But it looks like Henderson is the Belcal back in this backfield for at least, you know,
at least the next six to eight weeks.
While Williams gets healthy, he's, you know, he's out for, he's got a high ankle.
we're here and Acres is in the doghouse a little bit.
Obviously, Tom, Alan Robinson, I, again, not something I'm going to freak out about.
I also don't give a crap about what Matthew Stafford said.
He was just trying to throw an answer out there and hope nobody called him on it.
Like, he just didn't throw the ball to Alan Robinson, okay?
If it, if it happens or if CoSell or Brett Whitefield and the data guys at fantasy points tell
us he didn't look good, then we'll then we'll consider it a concern.
But otherwise, it could just be kind of a week one thing.
with Buffalo, James Cook fumbled on his only carry.
But here's the other thing.
Zach Moss caught six passes and didn't reach 10 fantasy points in a PPR.
That takes effort, man.
Like, that guy is so sluggish.
Yeah, I mean, even on his carry, I mean, average three yards a touch in that game.
So James Cook, you know, if you want to drop him, I wouldn't blame you.
It's probably going to be, it's going to be a while before he's a fact.
for fantasy.
But if you look at what,
what, you know, Moss did in front of him and, you know,
Singletary, they're still very hesitant to throw him the ball very much.
So Cook still has a pathway eventually,
but it's going to be a little slow out of the gates here.
He's, he obviously fumbled on that first play,
and they have their concerns with him.
So it's, I wouldn't blame you if you want to drop him right now.
Tom, let's go to New Orleans at Atlanta.
for 90% of this game, 99% of this game,
it looked like Atlanta was going to win it.
I think there was a, I forget who posted it,
but I think somebody said that Atlanta,
when they had that third and one with under two minutes left in the game,
they had like a 99.9% chance of winning the game.
And then they, what, they got stuffed on third and one.
They got stuffed on fourth and one.
And then New Orleans got into field goal range and Will Watts hit the bomb.
bad teams are bad Tom i mean
sometimes that is the case
but obviously uh we've got to move
Michael Thomas up in the
in the market report
um he scored two touchdowns and
it took a while i mean he
didn't have much production at all
until the fourth quarter but in the fourth quarter
he was the player who stepped up when they needed them to
yeah uh it was slow going for a while
it was slow going for the entire offense honestly
yeah uh jarvis salandry was actually the guy
that kind of kickstarted he'll be uh in the
waiver wire. He started to, he kind of started the offense there. But I thought it was at least
interesting how they used the receivers. It was a pretty heavy rotation. Michael Thomas actually
played just 61% of the snaps. Marquez Calloway played 33% of the snaps. No receiver actually
had more than 74%. That was Chris Oliva. So, but I think that that's got to be a factor with the
injury, Joe. You know, you had the hamstring in August, you know, basically, you know, since the
2020 playoffs, he hasn't, you know, seen NFL action. So I would expect that to rise.
You know, I wouldn't be too concerned about that. So that's 61 percent. I could see him
up at 90 percent in about three or four weeks. So I'm not going to freak out about Alvin Camara.
They were behind most of that game. It was weird. They didn't run a whole lot of plays going for it.
I mean, Taysam Hill, by the way.
It doesn't matter what position he is.
He's Taysam Hill.
Like, hopefully you drafted him as your third tight end in best ball
because he's going to crack a lot of best ball lineups over the course of the season.
Just very inconsistently so.
Flipping over to Atlanta, Tom, we got to put Cordero Patterson up.
Absolutely, yep.
Because Damien Williams got hurt.
Tyler Algier was a healthy scratch before the game as well.
So maybe that changes going forward.
I'm sure will.
Yeah, I don't know.
If he actually contributes on special teams or not, maybe that's a factor why he was a healthy scratch in that game.
But, yeah, Patterson, how many snaps?
Yeah, 65% of the snaps.
Look great as a runner.
I think they'll kind of lean on him for the time being here.
You know, they've got Avery Williams and Tyler Algear behind him now.
So he's going to be heavily involved here.
We're right back to square one with Patterson.
And we kind of got the feeling that maybe he would be kind of phased out of the running game a bit with his usage at the end of last year and with them bringing in Damian Williams and draft in Alger.
But it doesn't appear that way, at least for the time being here.
He definitely gets a short-term upgrade here.
I definitely don't think they want to give him 22 carries a game.
I think he wore down last year.
But, you know, CoSell always says it.
There's a difference between a guy who can handle 22 carries a game over a full season.
or a guy who can do it over the course of a month if you need them to.
Yeah, and I think that's, do we know the extent of Damien Williams injury?
I mean, it was a rib injury.
It was a rib injury.
Yeah, I'm not sure.
That could be anything from like one to three weeks or, you know,
depending on the severity of it.
So I wouldn't expect him to play this week, but, you know, he'll be back at a few weeks.
But I could see Patterson taking on a bigger workload here, at least for the time being.
Anything from their receivers?
Drake London, five or seven?
Well, yeah, like, I mean, Pitts has got to be watched, but I mean, how many times,
look, obviously, I think the guy's going to be a star. I think he's going to be an all-timer,
but I mean, how many times is he going to have, it doesn't matter the quarterback. He's going to lay an egg.
Yeah, I mean, this, you know, this is Marcus, this is the first time, you know, with a new quarterback
here, you'd expect it to get better as it goes on. But, I mean, for me, it's at least kind of
concerning. I mean, he did see seven targets, which is a positive.
Yeah, but. Drake London literally didn't play for four weeks, and he looked like he had a lot
more chemistry with Marcus Marriota right out of the gates. So, I mean, right, that's, that for me
is at least a little bit of a red flag here that London didn't play for three or four weeks,
and he already showed better chemistry than Kyle Pitts did. Yeah. And, well, first and foremost,
yeah, Pitts saw seven targets, but a couple of them were desperation bombs at the end of the
game when they were trying to get into field goal range.
Okay, I didn't see, I didn't necessarily see that.
Yeah, so, I mean, that's a good note there.
That can be concerning.
Cleveland at Carolina, Tom.
It's going to be a whole lot of Nick Chubb here while, uh, while Jacoby Brissette's a
quarterback.
Yeah, of course, but look.
Three months, uh, you know, going off for two touchdowns as well.
It's going to be going to be him featured in, you know, right next to Nick Chub here,
as we kind of anticipated.
We'll put them both up.
And I mean, look, Hunt, you know, this is the thing, though.
Scott, now, of course, Hunt scored two touchdowns and Chubb didn't.
But this is what Scott Barrett has said all along.
You know, targets are worth 2.5 times as much as a carry.
Kareem Hunt gets 15 touches to Nick Chubb's 23 and easily outscores him for fantasy.
Like, but both of those guys have to be up, I think.
I mean, I think as long as Jacoby Brissette is the quarterback, and by the way,
their schedule in the first half of the season is hilarious.
easy. Like, that's why I've been streaming their defense. I mean, I think Chubb and Hunt are both.
Yeah, they got the Jets next week who were the, you know, the friendliest team for opposing running
backs last year. So, so they're going to go off. In my mind, both of these guys are weekly
starts until proven otherwise. You have to start Hunt if you have them. Totally agree here.
The receivers, the receiver, the receiver was a bit interesting. People's Jones, uh, waiver wire guy,
but he was a full-time player right next to Amari Cooper,
and he was more heavily targeted and performed a little bit better.
So that's something to watch here, you know, both Cooper and Injoku.
I mean, they give that big four-year contract to David Njoku,
and he gets one target.
Is he WaverWire?
No, he's pretty, I don't think so.
I'll have to check.
I didn't write him up last night.
You know, I'll put him down anyway.
Yeah, maybe him and Cooper a little bit.
it down there. Yeah, I'll
have Cooper on watch only because
um,
uh,
Casey Horn. He was a full time player.
He was 89% of the snap.
So that was definitely a positive.
Uh, I think he was
I mean,
yeah, let's let's do, let's be liberal
with watch list right now because
like, who knows.
Like, right?
You know, like he was a full time player,
but he played, but only one target.
But, you know, again,
And to not overreact to week one, but let's just be, let's be, you know, a little liberal with that watch list.
Well, let's reserve down for guys who really deserve to be down.
Yes.
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
On the other side, I mean, not, I mean, your offense took a long time to get going.
They ran 50 plays.
Yeah, it was, it was ugly for the first two quarters there.
And Mayfield started to turn it on.
I mean, did get helped out a little bit, a bit of a bust of coverage there.
for the Robbie Anderson touchdown, but I mean, honestly, I don't really see anything of note on their
side. I mean, DJ Moore will be better. Three of 43 isn't great, but still saw sick targets.
McCaffrey, we know McCaffrey is. We'd like to see more than 14 touches, but if they run more
than 50 plays, that will change. So I really don't see much to talk about on the Panthers side.
Let's go to San Fran and Chicago. I don't know how much we're going to glean out of this game,
quite frankly, Tom.
I mean,
um,
Kittle is a lot,
obviously.
Yeah,
we'll put him with the groin injury.
It sounds like he might miss another week here.
Eli,
there's more of a sense of urgency for him to play now after,
after losing to the Bears in week one.
Um,
I think they have a division game against the Seahawks next week.
So,
uh,
still another game you think you'd win,
but,
uh,
last week was also a game you think you win against the Bears.
So we'll see if there's a little bit more sense of urgency.
for him to play against the Seahawks.
Eli Mitchell down.
Because he got hurt.
I mean, he just, I mean.
That looked nasty too.
That was a helmet right to the knee.
I believe Edwin was saying that that could be a sprained MCL.
Could be looking at a six week type of injury there.
So we're right back to Jeff Wilson and Tyrion,
Tyrion Davis Price.
I hope you didn't draw the one.
Didn't even see an offensive snob.
Oh, well, yeah, Jordan Mason was active, probably because of special teams, I'm going to guess.
But, like, you know, Kyle Shanahan now, here is a guy.
Man, does he love smell of his own force.
I knew you're saying.
He loves the smell of his own ass, man.
Like, this team just like top 100 picks for running backs are valuable.
I mean, they're valuable picks on any position, but on running backs, they're really valuable.
And they just draft these guys in the top 100, and they doghouse them.
Like, I mean, I think.
Kyle Shanahan's a really good coach. Now, I think the Davis Price thing was probably a special
team's deal. Let's see what happens going forward because they're going to need them.
Chicago, David Montgomery, 17 carries for 26 yards. Now, he did have, he had 20 touches, Tom,
but for 50 yards. What do we do with that? I don't know. Yeah, it's two and a half yards
per touch, basically. Just doing quick math in my head there. That's it. That's not pretty.
and then you have Khalil Herbert come into the game.
All offseason, we get, you know, Greg Cosell's telling us he's a better fit for the outside zone.
And he comes in and runs for nine times for 45 yards for, you know, it's obviously a small sample.
But it was, you know, it wasn't like one 40, you know, 35 yard run and eight carries for 10 yards on the other ones.
I mean, he had a long of 12 yards.
So he was picking up chunks of yards whenever he was in.
I'm just like, I don't know if.
I gotta be honest, I'm really pissed off about this game.
And, and just like, because I am a notorious guy, I hate bad weather.
And like, I just, I, the thing that piss me off about is that there's nobody I can get mad at.
It's just kind of a thing that you're, like, you're yelling at the void.
I don't know, like, do I feel great about Trey Lance after yesterday?
No, but I don't know how we can look at this game and say, yeah, that's a really good takeaway we can have.
Like, I mean, this game was, this was clown conditions.
I mean, that field, that field was literally flooded.
Yeah, I, I know people were probably mad at Darnel Mooney as well.
I don't know a lot of subscribers drafted him, you know, in the fifth, sixth round,
and three catch, you know, three targets.
Only had the one single catch for eight yards, but, I mean,
I don't know how you.
You know, eight completions total for, for Chicago.
I mean, they were, you know, was a, I just don't know what to really take away from this game.
other than the injuries and maybe, you know, David Montgomery's usage here.
Yeah, I, look, I'm sorry, guys.
Like, I know you're going to probably want us to, like, get in this column and just completely
throw Tray Lance under the bus.
And it might turn out, Tom, that Tray Lance stinks.
It might be the case.
I just don't know if it's fair to say that after this game.
Yeah, this is one for both sides that just, yeah.
I don't know if it's a burn the tape, but it's, I can't get a whole lot of information.
other than just how people were used in it.
Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, Tom.
Here's one of the examples of the non-playoff team.
Well, the Chicago San Francisco.
Hey, come on.
Hey, Steelers made the playoffs last year.
I'm sorry.
The Steelers did make the playoffs last year.
I mean, it was a quick exit.
They barely were there.
They were there.
Nodgy down, unfortunately.
I have to imagine.
Nasty, nasty roll up there.
And he was in excruciating pain
for about 20 seconds after it happened.
You know, after it happens.
So now I do want to, Edwin said it might be a, right?
Yeah, it might be a high ankle.
But he didn't get a good look at it.
Now, apparently they're saying the injury is not severe.
But given that it took, it was to the same foot.
I have to imagine it's probably going to.
Yeah, Liz Frank spring and training can't there.
So I have to imagine that he's going to miss a week or two at least.
Jaylen Warren, he'll be a top waiver wire pickup behind Jeff Wilson.
But, you know, following this team, I wouldn't be surprised if Benny Snell sees a healthy number of carries, you know, next to Jailum Warren.
And I'm not convinced that they're just going to give all the work to Jailen Warren here.
I could see Anthony McFarland also coming up off the practice squad.
So Jailen Warren is definitely the guy to add.
maybe he can be a low end Rby too, but I can see him splitting up the work a little bit if Harris does miss a couple games here.
Anything else you really like from the Steelers?
Not the quarterback.
5.1 yards in attempt.
By the way, I had a dream.
A lot of that was aided at the end of the game there in overtime.
I mean, he was basically headed for four yards in attempt.
And I got people in Pittsburgh telling me that he did a great job because he didn't turn the ball over.
So that's the, that's the threshold to cross right now for a starting NFL quarterback is he didn't turn the ball over.
So he did a good job.
I don't want to like go nuts moving Pat Friermuth up.
No, I wouldn't touch.
I mean, maybe we do a little bit on pickings here because I know he was a popular ad.
And, you know, Claypool was kind of the more feature player.
They were using him on jet sweeps.
And he ended up with six carries and six targets.
and he ended up, I believe, leading them in SnapShare and RoutShare as well.
So I still think they like Pickens long term, but might be one of those we watch.
And he's got to prove it.
And Trabisky has to prove it for a week or two before we really trust throwing him in to a lot of right now.
Well, Joe Mixing's up, 36 opportunities.
Wow, in a loss, by the way.
Yeah.
I mean, this game, I mean, I mean,
I don't know if there's really much to take away.
I mean, the Bengals, they're going to be a fun team to write up for the market report
because there's nothing going to really change probably very much.
Well, except T. Higgins has a concussion.
Yeah, I mean, that's the one piece of news, but it's, we love this offense because they
kind of feature the same three to four guys every week.
Tyler Boyd, he's a fringe waiver wire guy, so he'll have a little bit more juice while
T. Higgins is out, but, yeah, T. Higgins had the shoulder injury all summer, slow back
to practice.
and then he gets some concussion early in the game.
So just a tough start to the season for him here.
Philadelphia at Detroit, this game was wild.
The Eagles probably should learn how to tackle.
I think that's a suggestion I would make to them.
Hey, how about Miles Sanders?
Hey, he did look fairly good here.
I mean, of course, all three of the back score a rushing touchdown.
But he did score a touchdown.
I mean, that's more, you know, one game into 2022, and he's already doing better than
2021.
So here's a takeaway, by the way, Tom, that I need, that probably should be on the waiver wire.
I don't know if Gainwell's a waiver wire guy, but, um, I don't think so.
He's, he's, he was their hurry up back.
Yes.
I think that was kind of anticipated, though, wasn't it?
Yeah, like, he was, passing back, hurry back, hurry up back.
Well, apparently he had a weak camp.
That's what the beat writer said.
Well, he was out there and he had that role as the hurry up back.
But Sanders was there that when they needed to close the game at the end and they needed to run the ball to close the game, Sanders was the guy.
And he got the job done.
That's the key.
That's the key.
He got the job done when they asked him to get the job done, right?
So let's not go overboard with too big of an up here, though.
You know, this is still a tentative up.
It's still a very, I wrote tentatively.
Yeah.
So a very, you know, not every game they're going to be leading by 17 points where they can.
really pound the ball like they did with, you know, with Sanders in week one.
But definitely performed well with his opportunities and that's all you can ask for.
So that, you know, that's an up onto itself, just performing well in that spot.
A.J. Brown to the moon.
Yeah, apparently.
Devonte Smith, we're going to watch him.
He did not catch a pass in this game.
And I almost wonder, like I was talking with Paul Kelly.
who was the other one who had like the new toy and I'm like oh the the the old uh the old steady guy just did not get um did not get
the love oh my that was it that was it Derek Carr Derek Carr with Devante Adams and like Paul was like because Hunter Renfro I think caught two or three passes and he's like what's going on and I'm like well Paul Derek well first and foremost we'll get to LA and Chargers
But the Chargers signed Bryce Callahan, who's one of the best slot corners in the NFL, actually had an interception in that game.
And obviously he was over-focused on Devante.
But apparently Jalen Hurts went up, like reporters saw him go up to Devonte Smith in the locker room after the game and was like, we got a dub, you're going to get yours.
So I'm not freaking out about that.
But obviously, if you took, hey, if you took the zero in week one, I'm not telling you to not be upset about it.
Like, that's not going to.
Very clearly, though, AJ Brown, you know, not that this wasn't, we weren't thinking this,
but he's very clearly going to be the alpha number one receiver here.
I mean, and that guy's a, that guy's a dog, man.
He's got that dog.
He's got that dog in him.
I told him, I told my wife that, uh, that my Eldon Ring character had that dog in him,
and she was very upset about it with me.
The line
DeAndre Swift is
Oh oh
Tom I almost
I did say
PASS earlier in the podcast
Oh
Dude Tom
Did you see the tweet yesterday
That I retweeted
There was some doctor
Who tweeted
Oh no
Last night
It was some urologist
It was
Ashley Winter
The urologist
She's like
Urine is not sterile
Stop saying that people
It's not sterile
And it reminded me of
a drill tweet where he literally tweets urine is not sterile. It has piss in it.
I have no response. Drill has some good ones.
I love my drill. Anyway, I name a lot of my fantasy teams after drill. So as Tom, you are well
aware. Anyway, I almost said, I almost said the F word, which is what we're at where I'm getting at
here with the lines. But D'Andrex Swift is awesome. I mean, the eagle, now the Eagles have their own
tackling problems, but DeAndre Swift, if the Lions are going to be anywhere close to as
competitive as they showed in this game, that guy's a league winner. And I'm already pissed
to myself for keeping Najee over him in the Collegian League. The reason I did that is because
I had an extra year of Najee over Swift, but that was a mistake on my point. I mean, the only
slight, you know, downgrade for him is we had Jamal friggin Williams coming at the one yard
line and bowl in there for two touchdowns. So, I mean, that's,
at least a little bit to watch there.
But it was kind of split how we kind of thought, you know, they,
even in the preseason, you know, it was kind of like a 65, 35 type of split.
So, you know, Swift is, you know, looking great right now.
And with the passing game, I mean, it kind of broke down, kind of how we thought.
Hawkinson, you know, a little disappointing with 4th for 38.
But, yeah.
Amon Ross, St. Brown is still, you know, still feeling the love from Jared Gough here with,
you know, it was a lot of late action.
With the Lions here, probably going to be doing that quite a bit this season.
They're going to be friskeed down into the final Mets.
They went 11 and 6 against the spread last year for a reason.
They like to cover those backdoor spread.
So I would not be surprised if Alman Rae, St. Brown, does this,
does have some good fourth quarters in the future as well.
Well, that was your 1 million percent right.
It was all in the fourth quarter and the Eagles just like could not get off the field on third down.
And if that's the case for the lion's opponents, the rest of the way,
Yamon Ra is going to catch a lot of balls.
This one's going to be pretty quick, I think, Tom.
Indianapolis at Houston, it was a tie.
The one thing I'll say for Indianapolis is Pitman up.
And, like, I mean, look, this is what we kind of projected of him, but he's Matt Ryan's guy.
Here's dropped a touchdown, you know, Julian dropped the touchdown.
Paris, we got a knock down.
I mean, holy crap.
All the talk all preseason, and then Lovie Smith comes out and gives like 75,
percent of the touches to Rex Burkhead in the season opener. So, and that's even with them. Oh, oh, I meant
Alec Pierce. Oh, sorry. I thought you were going to, sorry. We'll talk Damien Pierce. Um, Pitman,
the reason I'm saying Pittman up is because both Alec Pierce and Ashton Duel and drop touchdowns.
Yeah. I mean, in addition to the fact that Pittman's awesome. Yeah. And, you know,
Paris Campbell's still, you know, non-existent here. Uh, there were some thought that Moe Allie Cox
might step up and be something in this offense,
but we were right back to a split tight end
usage in Indianapolis with Granson and Alec Cox
playing 55 and 54% of this now.
So this is all Pittman in the passing game
and all Jonathan Taylor in the running game.
This is a pretty easy offense to break down here.
Yeah, Indy and Houston and then Damien Pierce is down.
I mean, Rex Burkhead's out there.
Not that Rex Burkhead, I mean, the thing with Burkhead is he did it
in the passing game.
But like Rex Burkhead right now, Tom,
Again, it's week one. Damian Pierce could very well take this backfield over and could do it very soon.
But Rex Burkhead, if he's going to catch, if you're going to get eight targets every week, that guy's a usable flex.
Yeah, unfortunately. I think this is one of those things where it's going to eventually flip here.
But I think everybody got a little too excited about Pierce after what we saw in the off, in the preseason and training camp.
Maybe they're going to bring him along a little more slowly, you know, they anticipate here.
I'd be curious.
You know, whoever digs into this game,
maybe if there's any comments from Lovie Smith,
I didn't actually see anything,
but just to see, you know,
kind of why they played Burkhead so much more
than Damien Pierce if Pierce maybe made a mistake
and pass protection or did something that kind of drew the eye
of the coaching staff.
I don't know.
It was just kind of bizarre after what we saw in the training camp
with just expecting much better usage than he actually got here.
Well, let's be honest.
We're talking about a guy who had fourth and two with an opportunity to win a football game and decided to play for the tie.
So, oh, my God.
That was.
I mean, like, like, let's just be, let's be honest here.
You know, that kind of guy who default a veteran, yeah.
Yeah, and, yeah, we, Pep Hamilton's a great quarterbacks coach as well, but, you know, he's had a pretty checkered history of offensive play calling.
So not the best, uh, tandem.
leading this offense right now.
But they got a tie in spite of themselves yesterday against the Colts of 7-point underdog.
So it wasn't totally bad.
New England and Miami.
Get out of my life, Ty Montgomery.
Get out of it.
Get out of it.
I don't want to see him anymore.
I'm tired of this freaking guy.
I'm tired of him.
Yep.
Scores a touchdown.
Plays in the hurry-up offense.
Plays in passing situations.
unfortunately for all of us, Ramandre Stevenson backers.
We got Tom Montgomery wasting snaps.
Oh, and by the way, Damien Harris is not going to do a whole lot for fantasy if there's three backs involved.
So, I mean.
It's a total shit show, basically.
And it's a shit show with their receivers and that shit show with their tight ends right now.
And their offense stinks, by the way.
Oh, and Mac Jones is hurt, by the way.
Yeah, yeah, he took a shot to his back.
You had to get extra.
Yeah.
Sounds like he's going to be all right.
But, yeah, I mean, this is just brutal.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ty Montgomery, you know, gets his five touches and gets 13 yards.
Sounds about right.
That's a Thai Montgomery line.
So, just, I don't know.
This whole, this whole Patriot situation,
there's nothing I've liked about this team,
basically dating back to,
dating back to the draft.
I mean, they made some very bizarre picks back them.
Belichick never, you know, he's going to roll with Matt, Patricia, and Joe Judge as their offensive coordinators.
And now he's not putting his best players out in the field. He's playing Thai Montgomery. So, I mean, it's hard to be very optimistic about this Patriots offense right now.
Miami. Um, anything really, I mean, it kind of broke down the way we expected it to. Like, obviously, Tom and obviously Gassiki, I mean, down, he's buried.
Oh, he's not even waiver war. He's, he was, he was plummeting down draft boards and,
And he was like 30-some percent owned, and I didn't even put him on the waiver wire.
So we don't even need to touch him.
Backfield was basically how we kind of thought.
63% of the snaps for Edmonds.
Mostard at 42%.
So nothing too shocking.
And in the passing game, it was Tyreek Hill and Daylon Wattle featured.
So I don't even think we really have to write anything on this game.
No.
By the way, Hill and Waddle only played 67% of their offensive snaps.
Yeah, they were mixed instead of Wilson in.
Yeah, they rotated a bunch of guys.
Yeah, I have to want, you know, it was a 90-some degree day.
They did get up by multiple scores.
I have to wonder, that was kind of by design.
I'm looking at across the board, you know, their offense, yeah, there was a lot of rotation going on.
So we'll see if that's a thing going forward.
But, yeah, nothing really to take note of here in this.
game. For as little as we kind of knew about Mike McDaniel's offense coming into this game,
it's kind of played out how we thought it might coming into week one.
Baltimore and the Jets, the one that we've really got to watch here is Rashad Bateman.
And I don't know how much I'm going to overreact to week one. But, like, he wasn't even
out there on like all of their passing snaps.
which is very strange. And you wonder if it's just a gameplay thing. I mean, he did lead their wide receivers in snaps at 66%. But I don't know. Well, we'll see. We got lucky with that deep touchdown.
Yeah, I mean, it was kind of a bit of a busted coverage. He was wide open. It worked out. As someone that had his over 45 and a half receiving yards, I'm counting my blessings that he got there because it, you know, for the most of that game, that was not looking good here. So, uh,
It was, yeah, 66% of the snaps isn't great.
It's tough to feel really good about Rashad Babin right now.
Devin Du René made a couple of players.
Hopefully it was just like we can beat this team in our sleep and that was it.
Yeah, I guess we should do an update on J.K. Dobbins here.
Well, not a healthy scratch.
He's dealing with the ACL injury, but not healthy enough to play just yet.
but they did lose Juan James,
Tori's Achilles in that game.
Ronnie Stanley's really struggling to get healthy
for the last couple of years
ever since he signed that contract.
And, you know, this, I mean,
I'm going to move Dobbins down, Tom.
I'm going to move Dobbins down,
because when are you going to feel good
about playing that guy?
I mean, not until maybe November.
I mean, maybe late October.
I mean, it's going to be a lot.
as soon as he is active for, you know, if it does happen in the next week or two,
you know, I don't see him getting, you know, 15 carries a game anytime soon here.
So it is certainly going to be a lot for him.
What do we do with the Jets?
Because, I mean, Tom, I benched Brees Hall everywhere and the guy gets 10 targets.
Now, of course, Michael Carter got nine.
I mean, I honestly don't know what to do with this.
I mean, Carter, I think, is pretty clearly the top back right now.
Yeah.
Dropped a touchdown.
He did.
Reese Hall, it kind of lucked out.
You know, he was getting rotated in as a, you know, a lot of this was, this, this is a lot of, you know,
59 attempts for Joe Flacco in this game.
It was, couldn't get Elijah more to his receiving yards number, 51 and a half, even with 59 attempts.
We have to put, we have to put Carter in Hall on.
watch. I'm trying not to overuse the watch, but like,
kind of have to after week one, right? I mean,
yeah, I mean, it kind of played out how we thought it might with Carter having a
slight advantage for now, but I thought they both played, you know, relatively well. I mean,
Bruce Carter was the more effective runner and Hall was kind of the more effective receiver.
I mean, I don't know what to really take away from this just yet, but it's probably going to be
And for people that maybe, you know, drafted Brees Hall and thought maybe he could become, you know, the lead guy, you know, relatively early.
It doesn't look like that's going to happen here anytime soon.
Yeah.
All right, Jacksonville and Washington.
Is James Robinson Waverwire?
No, no.
He's heavily owned.
James Robinson up?
Jeez, he bucked the trend there and, you know, looked great coming.
You know, that was a January injury when he tore his Achilles.
I think that was a week 17 or week 18 game.
Played extremely well.
Played well above expectations.
So he's certainly up and Travis Etienne has to be down with just four carries.
Yeah.
I mean, fortunately, if you start at ETN, he did get you 65 yards and two catches.
So not a total loss, but he dropped a touchdown and to be fair to ETN.
He dropped one?
I mean, Trevor Lawrence missed him for a wide open touchdown.
Yeah, he was wide.
open. I didn't see the dropped one, but he, he was wide open. It was like a little wheel route.
And Florence overthrew him by five yards. It was, I mean, we might be singing an entirely
different song. Yep. And entirely different song. That was like the first or second drive of the game.
It was real early in the game and just totally changed the whole tenor for him. And then game,
it was literally the first drive of the game. Literally the first drive of the game. They ended it with a
field goal. But, I mean, that changed the entire game.
There's no doubt about it.
Again, Washington over here is John Dotson Waverwire.
Yes, he'll be one of the top guys on the Waverware.
It's, he had the two touchdowns, but this receiving core, it's going to be a little treacherous.
I think Terry McClure might have to be a downgrade here.
He did score the touchdown here, but Curtis Samuel, he looked really good.
I mean, he battled that groin injury all of last year, only played like 84.
snaps total for all of 2021.
But he looked like he was back.
John Dodson is going to be a factor every week.
And even Logan Thomas, I did not expect him to even play in week one.
And he went out and saw six targets.
And I think he was around 60% of the snaps in week one.
So all of a sudden, Terry McLauran has a lot of target competition.
And it's Carson Went.
So we're going to trust him to throw for,
300 yards every week here.
So I'm a little,
I'm a little concern here for Terry McClure.
Yeah, I wasn't really drafting him.
And because, like, again, right, you're like,
Wentz threw the ball really well.
Of course, he had a couple of boneheaded interceptions,
but that's Wentz.
But he threw the ball really well in that game.
Is he going to throw the ball really well going forward?
I don't know.
So Antonio Gibson's up.
If he's going to be catching seven passes,
not that I expect him to,
but if he's going to be getting eight targets,
I mean, you can use them.
Unbelievable.
And, you know, it's not even narrative.
You know, Wentz just doesn't get his running backs involved in the passing game.
I'll be curious once we get, you know, more film breakdown.
It seemed like they were trying to be creative to get Gibson involved in the passing game.
They were kind of moving them around a little bit.
Ended up running 26 routes to J.D. McKissick's 17 routes on 45 dropbacks.
So pretty promising usage for Gibson in week one.
I'm
I drafted him one or two of my
draft legs, but I don't have a whole lot of Gibson,
but he looked damn good as a receiver in this one.
Okay, let's go to Kansas City and Arizona.
Arizona freaking sticks.
How do they have the most injured team, like,
of all time in week one?
I don't know.
That defense just got absolutely shredded by Kansas City.
just horrifying, horrifyingly bad.
I mean, I don't know.
I mean, Hollywood scored.
Oh, okay, we're going to Arizona here.
Yeah, I don't.
Yeah.
I mean, Hollywood, we got to feel decent about moving forward here.
You know, no Hopkins.
I mean, it seems like the run,
Rondell Moore had serious hamstring issues at Purdue.
You know, he could be looking at like a month-long absence here.
I expect.
Here's the thing about, here's, go ahead.
Here's the thing about Hollywood, though.
Like, Greg Dorch is getting nine targets.
Yeah.
Like, I don't know.
Like, I, you know, every time.
The way I look at that, that's not going to be sustainable.
I didn't even write up Gregorch for the waiver wire.
It's Greg friggin' dors.
You know, Marquis Brown, I expect, you know,
Kyler and him to get more acclimated together and better.
So, you know, we locked out, got the touchdown in this game.
And I expected to continue.
need to prove. I don't even know if we need to write them up in this one. I mean, it kind of came
through. No, I'm not going to. I'm not going to. I mean, I'm worried more about Kyler Murray
overall here because it's just how, I mean, Zach Hertz locked out with a touchdown, but, you know,
it looked like he was laboring out there, you know, going through the calf injury. So I'm putting
Kyler down. I do not, I, watching him play does not inspire much confidence in me. I'll be honest.
Yeah, it doesn't. And then you give them a subpar group out there and, and, and, and,
It gets a little scary.
So he's got AJ Green, you know, aging AJ Green out in the outside.
So this is an ugly group right now.
Edward Delaer up.
I am not really, look, Pacheco, he got the garbage time stuff.
Great for him.
But Edwards O'Lare was the guy early and he looked great.
Yeah, he's definitely an up.
But it was a split back field more than more than you might think.
I think him and McKinnon basically shared the snaps.
when they were both in the game.
So definitely enough, you know, he scored the two touchdowns.
He got the goal line work there, but McKinnon did, you know,
McKinnon did run more routes than them.
It was 18 to 15 in that category.
So it's dead even on snaps at 27 apiece.
So it's a tentative up, but, you know,
Derek McKinnon could be a bit of a thorn in the side for Edwards Flair.
Yeah, yeah.
And I think going forward, that's probably a good note that McKinnon,
And if, you know, the Chiefs played in an actually competitive game,
McKinnon could be a guy who contributes to the...
You know, he's kind of got the edge in the passing game work right now.
This receiver group, kind of...
Kind of was exactly what I anticipated, right?
Yeah.
You know, Juju had a pretty nice game and a good matchup, but...
He also fumbled twice and lost one.
Yeah.
So, I mean, I don't know if there's much to write about in this receiving four.
Mahomes, I mean, maybe we do a quick Mahomes.
up. I mean, it was his first game without
Tyreek and he goes for
five touchdowns, but
he won't face a team that's
that banged up the rest of the year maybe. So
he lucked out in that.
But he looked like
he was in mid-season four in
week one here. So definitely a slight
up here considering the circumstances.
Vegas and the Chargers
Keenan Allen down.
Yeah, hamstring.
Yeah.
Mike Williams
Oh, we finally caught a pass in this game.
DeAndre Carter's the guy who comes in
and then contributes to me.
It was actually Josh Palmer kind of,
he became the lead, you know,
he's a waiver wire guy.
I put him at the top of the waiver wire.
But I mean, honestly,
the, nothing really that really stood out here
for the charges other than the injury.
Echler's usage is a bit concerning.
he kind of gave touches away to Kelly and Sony Michelle, but they were also up, you know,
two scores kind of late in that game. They have a Thursday night game against the Chiefs,
so I think they may have been. I'm not going to freak out about that yet, but yeah.
So, yeah, I don't, maybe it's, it's just something to keep an eye on, but I don't, I don't know if we
know if we need to put it in the report, but I wouldn't freak out that it was kind of, you know,
we saw Kelly and Michelle getting 11 carries in that game.
Anything for the Raiders?
Should we do the same thing with, like, A.J. Brown and Devante Smith, where we're, like,
Adams up?
Like, Carr loves him?
Yep.
Through, how many of his interceptions were intended for Adams?
So that was, well, at least one.
I remember seeing the deep down field one.
Not one was, yeah.
into double coverage.
But I'm trying to see.
Interceptive intended for Waller.
But yeah, 17 targets.
I mean, Duvante Adams is feeling pretty good about it.
He's good.
Yep.
Oh, and one of them was intended for Renfro, Callahan.
Yeah, okay.
So it was a mixed of all three of them.
Watch, obviously Adams love, but he was also covered by Bryce Callahan.
Yeah.
Who Wes, West will tell you, is one of the.
premier
Slot covers.
Yep.
All right.
Green Bay and Minnesota.
Oh, my God.
I don't.
This is one thing I will say to Packer fans.
Now I do know it's different.
Remember last year when they got beat 38 to 3 in week one by the Saints?
In Jacksonville.
Oh, that's right.
Yeah, that was that hurricane game where they,
the Orleans had to play in Jacksonville.
What a bizarre circumstance for that game.
But yeah, does feel a little different,
here.
Didn't that with no
Devante Adams
in the mix
and, you know,
I mean,
it was a bad sign
whenever
Justin Watson
dropped that 75-yard
touchdown on that ball.
That game's entirely
different if he catches
that ball.
Yeah, it totally
would have been.
But that's what you get
when you have an experienced
rookie, you know,
seeing his first NFL action,
those things can happen.
So you go from a
Devante Adams to a Christian
Watson in that spot
and things can change.
But,
I mean, I guess we've got to do maybe a slight Rogers downgrade.
I mean, I, I, I, yeah, yeah, Rogers down, yeah.
And look, with the complete understanding that he could throw for 300 next week and Romeo
dubs looks like a star and there, and you know, it's just bad game for him.
Yeah, and it's going to, it could make some time.
Offensive line was terrible, by the way.
Yeah, they were out, Batyari was out and Jenkins was out.
Yep.
So, the offensive line is banged up here.
They're breaking in a new receiving core.
They need Alan Lazard back quick.
We'll probably should do a quick update on that.
But the way he was talking, he's saying he needed a lot of prayers for him to be available for week two.
So might not be counting on him for at least another week here.
Minnesota's Minnesota.
And under a new coach, Minnesota is still Minnesota.
to Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson.
A little disappointing from Adam Thielen,
but look, Justin Jefferson's going off.
I mean...
Yeah, this is going to happen at times this year.
This is like Cooper Cup with Los Angeles.
Like, when he goes for these 150-yard-plus games,
the secondary receivers aren't going to do much.
So, yeah, this is a game.
This is a team I don't see much to report on for the market report.
New York and Tennessee, Sequin to the moon.
Way.
Oh, bang.
That was his best game in years.
I hope he makes it all 17 games.
I did put up.
I gave out a prop before the season, him to lead the league in rushing yards at 50 to 1.
So the way he ran yesterday, he's got a legit chance.
But hopefully he can stay healthy.
But damn, I mean, that is a, yesterday was a reminder just how good he is when he is completely right.
Then look, and the creative way, look, he had some good runs, but they got him the ball in the passing game.
and then Brian Dable calls the play for him on the two-point conversion.
Put the ball in the hands of your best player and let your best player win the game.
That's what it was.
And he did.
He looked great.
And there was some great,
I liked some of the designs of those runs,
you know,
some real power,
getting some guys out in front and letting Barclay.
You know,
it was,
because that's a bit of common complaint for Barclay over the year.
You know,
he dances a little too much.
He was heading downhill with a head of steam on a lot of his runs.
And I think it was by design with Dan.
table. So a very, very, very, very promising start. If you drafted Saquan Barclay in the second
round, and even at the end of the first round by the end of the summer, he started to go there. So
looking really good here. The rest of this offense, not so much, but. No, no, no. Kenny Gallaudy's
terrible. Tony, Tony played like. Yeah, we should probably do a little update on Tony. I saw
Edwin put in our discord that
Daibald basically insinuating that he was
completely healthy and it might be
more of a playbook issue with Cadarious Tony, which is
yeah, so he played like what, 10 snaps or something like that?
Seven, I think it was.
Wasn't targeted in the passing game. I mean, you saw what he could do with the ball
on his hands on those jet sweeps, but yeah.
Yeah, oh boy, that's not good.
Tennessee, I don't even think I see anything with Tennessee.
Yeah, Robert Wood's down. That's about it.
Yeah, right.
That's about it.
That team's going to be bad this year, I think.
It could be.
I faded them everywhere.
This is, this was the concern.
Kyle Phillips and Traylon Burks were kind of the best receivers on this team.
Berks was a part-time player, though, but I mean, he made plays when he got out.
He made a couple plays, which is exactly what they've won out of them.
You know, Robert Woods and Nick Westbrook Aquinae are aren't going to do anything.
Eventually, Traylon Burks has got to get in.
but he was a he's a waiver-wire guy so we don't need to spend too much time on i just wanted to say that
those guys did uh kind of step up for tannahill at least in week one uh Tampa bay and
Dallas oh Dallas bad vibes oh my godwin godwin down godwin down he hurt his hamstring uh we're
Penn State guys i love chris godwin what the F is Tampa bay doing playing him you know this
quickly after ac l it's a so
So stupid, so short-sighted.
You're going, this is a team that's built to win the Super Bowl.
You have Russell Gage.
You have Tolio Jones.
Why the hell are you playing Chris Gobwin a week one?
Just complete mismanagement by a team.
Just idiotics.
And, you know, they kind of get what they deserve.
I mean, we don't want to see Chris Godwin hurt.
You know, we want to see him healthy on the field, but they kind of got what they
deserved on this one.
Yeah, I mean, terrible.
I thought it was malpractice.
They shouldn't have done it.
And, yeah, obviously, I mean, Dak Press got down.
He's going to be out for two months.
Dallas has a shot, Tom, to completely implode.
I mean, six to eight weeks.
I mean, they're, I mean.
They don't have a backup quarterback on the 53-man roster.
The Steelers might walk out and be able to trade Mason Rudolph here for a day three pick.
or?
Garopolo.
I don't know if the $49ers going to be looking to trade Garoppel right now after week one at least.
Oh, yeah.
Well, that's a good.
Yeah.
So Steelers might be the lucky ones here.
I would hope Omar Khan is giving Jerry a call this afternoon here.
Well, Tom, I stand by my assessment with C.D. Lamb that he can lead the NFL in targets.
So he also might catch 20% of them.
Oh, my.
I mean, two for 29 on 11 targets.
mean, we thought, this is ugly, and it's kind of an extension of what he did at the end of last year.
He struggled a little bit.
We thought maybe that was partially maybe injury related.
He, you know, looked a little rigid out there at the end of the last year, but not a great first sign.
I'm not going to hold, I'm not going to hold this against C.D. Lamb.
Dallas, DAC was under siege.
Then, Dak got hurt.
But the idea of C.D. Lamb has always been better.
than like the reality of CD Lamb.
Yes.
Maybe there's a reason why he fell in the draft a little bit.
Yeah, a couple years ago.
All right.
Do you want to do a slight upgrade for,
I don't even know if Holyo Jones.
I don't write up the Sunday night game.
Put Holyo Jones maybe on the list, though,
because, I mean, if Godwin's going to be out multiple weeks.
Yeah, Holyo up.
He did.
I mean, he looked, they were taking some shots to him.
He connected on a 48-yard one.
Just missed another deep, deep target.
So they were giving him some chances here,
and you would expect that to be on the rise here
if Chris Godwin's looking at a monthly absence here.
Yeah, so fortunately when he, Tom,
I'm just glad it wasn't the knee.
But I don't know if it's like, oh, God.
Compensation injury, but anyway, Tom,
this is going to be a pretty juicy market report here.
We're going to, you meet you and Graham will split this up.
I'll get this sent out.
everybody this is our week so here's what we're going to do we're going to call this the week one market
report recap podcast but it's the week two market report because we're heading into week two and
that'll be the article so just so just to clear up some confusion Tom hopefully we don't have to
talk for 55 minutes going forward but uh no no this I mean with all these art market report
waiver wire it's always you know we haven't seen any actions so yeah these are the first reactions
it's going to be a little longer here well we'll be a little bit
quicker, a little briefer in future editions, but for this first month, it's always,
there's always more to write about because we're still getting a feel for all these teams.
