It's time for the Fantasy Points podcast, brought to you by FantasyPoints.com.
Top level fantasy football and NFL betting analysis from every perspective and angle,
from numbers to the film room with a single goal to help you score more fantasy points.
Of the football season where there are two digits in the week number.
It is week 10 of the 2022 NFL season, which gives us, oh, roughly,
seven weeks left of the fantasy football season, and maybe four weeks left for you to really make
your playoff push. And we're going to talk about the waiver wire here with Tom Broly.
My name's Joe Dolan, by the way, here at Fantasy Points.com. It's good to be with everybody.
Tom and I were just talking off air about the waiver wire, though. Last week we were like,
oh, boy, it's a bad waiver wire. This week might be worse. And Tom, it leads me to a discussion
that I have really...
One thing I don't love is fab questions.
Oh, what percentage of my fab should I put in on this guy?
Because I never really know how to answer it
because one guy just completely blowing you out of the water
is going to win a bid for any player.
But it just seems to me every year that the right move
is to spend most of your fab early in the season
because that's when we don't have information.
And that's when things you have to reevaluate and change your priors.
Because when we're in the off season, we're only predicting, we're only guessing.
When we actually see stuff happen, that's when you've got to adjust.
And it doesn't, the fact of the matter is this.
Let me just rephrase it.
I don't think, that doesn't mean it will never happen,
but I don't think somebody emerging in week 11,
or Week 12, who is going to be a complete league-winning type of guy, is going to come out of nowhere.
It just, what it really will take is like an injury to a hammer bell cow back,
but kind of like with Austin Echler last year when Justin Jackson had had a good run at the end of the season.
But I'm really continuing to advocate.
Now, I'm not saying spent all your fad, you want to leave some behind.
But early in the season, when these waiver wire guys come out and it looks like, hey, that guy's got an opportunity to be somebody who's in my lineup going forward, that's the time to spend your fab aggressively. I feel like if you've got 90% of your fab left in week 10, either you've had a really good team, which is possible, and you haven't wanted to drop anybody, or you've really dropped the ball on making moves on the waiver wire.
Yeah, it's like playing an auction drafts, me and you love to do that.
You don't want to be the team at the end of the draft that's sitting on $20 left of your budget,
and you could have spent that earlier in the draft and got a much better player.
So, yeah, you're completely right, Joe.
The situations are more unsettled at the beginning of the year.
That means there can be more movement.
We study these backfields.
We study all the news and stuff still changes early in the season.
As, you know, we're not getting pregame preseason reps anymore.
nobody's playing in those games.
So a lot of times, teams are evaluating in the first month of the season.
So if something changes then, that's when you want to spend the money.
And also, injuries tend to happen earlier in the season, too,
because guys aren't playing in preseason games and hamstrings get pulled because
they're not ramped up all the way to full speed.
And so that's when injuries tend to occur a little bit more.
So at this time of year, hopefully you've spent most of your fab budget.
And this is the time of year where I'm looking,
to strengthen. Get those higher end guys that might be out there.
Samajé P. Ryan, who might, is probably widely available, who would be the top handcuff for
Joe Mix. Jalen Warren, we can touch on him a little bit later. These guys that if they would get
into the lead role, they could potentially really help your lineup. You don't want to be
holding on to, I don't know, a J.D. McKissick or somebody that's, you know, a Naim Hines who
He probably doesn't have a ton of upside.
These guys that probably aren't going to help you win championships.
Now is the time to maybe start, you know, shaping your roster,
getting those backups that could be high-end players if they would somehow get into a lineup.
We saw this week with me.
Josh Palmer this week, I mean, he was out there in 80% of leagues.
And we got Keenan Allen and Mike Williams down.
He goes off for his first 100-yard receiving games.
So those are the type of players you want to start targeting it this time of year.
And right, like, so when we talk about like a Samajai P-Rine or something like that, Tom, it's, there's really no analysis there. The analysis is if Joe Mixing gets hurt, he's got a shot to be a league winner, right? Like, so those are the kind of guys right that you roster. So we're going to talk about guys who might actually be able to help your team now. And we'll be completely honest. There's not a ton of them on on the waiver wire right now. Let's start. Let's just, let's just,
go by position. Let's start at quarterback. He was on by last week. He's available in about 60% of Yahoo
leagues, and his weaponry has gotten better at the trade deadline. And additionally, could be getting
Debo Samuel back coming out of the buy from the hamstring injury. That's Jimmy Garapola,
who certainly you could argue could be a low end kind of QB1 here going forward in a league
where the quarterback play has not been good. Yeah, this is, and this is another big week for
quarterbacks. We got
Baltimore, New England,
Cincinnati, and the Jets all on
by this week. So we got Lamar
Jackson and Joe Burrow both out this week.
Two QB-1s that
so far this year, top 12 players.
And we're also going to be
monitoring the Josh Allen news. So there's
a lot of people that could be
scrambling for quarterbacks this week. And
Garoppolo was
heavily rostered before they're by.
Put up some very strong
performances. He's up over
17 fantasy points in four straight games.
And you may have seen they added this guy,
Christian McCaffrey, who's pretty good at football and can score in a variety of
different ways.
And he's going to help this passing tack.
They're going to get Debo Samuel back.
Hopefully out of their byweek, he sat out the last game because of a hamstring
injury.
And looking at the 49er schedule upcoming here, they got the Chargers,
they got the Cardinals, they got the Saints, and they got the
Dolphins.
So, I mean, those are four matchups that could all potentially turn into shootouts.
Maybe not that Saints one after watching them last night.
But the other three games all have the potential to be higher end scoring, you know,
in this league where every game is going under the total.
You know, those, the upcoming schedule could have some higher scoring affairs.
So he's a guy that should be added.
And I guarantee it he'll probably be up by.
70% ownership by the end of the week here with everybody who's needing a quarterback right now.
Gotta talk, got to mention this, okay.
We are not arguing, you know, if you're trying to win a fantasy football championship,
look, you're going to have, occasionally you're going to have a bad person on your team, Tom.
If you don't want to pick them up, I do not care about that.
Like, we've discussed that multiple times here.
If you want to have fun playing fantasy football and you don't want to have Deshawn Watson on your roster.
That is your prerogative.
But we have to mention that he will be back in week 13.
Andrew Barry, Kevin Stefansky have said when Deshawn Watson is eligible to play, he is going to play.
He plays Houston in week 13.
The quarterback position has been bad this year.
The traditional greats like Rogers and Brady and Wilson have not played good football,
haven't been good for fantasy.
Stafford, Matt Ryan got benched.
Deshawn Watson is going to play in week 13.
He is going to play over those final playoff weeks for fantasy football.
Houston, Cincinnati, Baltimore, New Orleans, Washington is his playoff schedule.
He is available in roughly three-fourths of Yahoo's.
Yeah, it's going to be a good.
great unknown just how he's going to play. We're coming on two years where he hasn't played
a single NFL snap, but based on previous performance in Houston, he was, since entering
the league, he's third in fantasy points per game with 22 fantasy points per game. So we'll see
how he plays. He does have a tough schedule after that Houston game. It's not the easiest
playoff schedule, but we've watched the Bengals offense the last.
couple of weeks. I mean, Amari Cooper's playing at a high level. We'll touch on Donovan
People's Jones a little bit later. David and Joku will hopefully be back by week 13 or 14.
So he's going to be arguably some of his best weapons that he's had in an offense that's been
trending up or upward here. So as we said, you know, we're looking for guys that could have
ceiling potential moving forward. And a guy like Deshaun Watson, who's rostered in 27% of leagues right now,
this is probably the week.
If you've been floundering a little bit at quarterback,
but you have a good rest of the roster,
maybe this is the player that can take your team over the top.
So now is probably the time to roster him.
I would think that his ownership will probably get up to the 40 or 50%
range by the time we talk next week.
Tom, we rarely write about in the Waverwire article
of FantasyPoints.com,
players who are rostered in over 50% of leagues.
But sometimes when circumstances change,
you feel the need to chime in on something.
And the fact of the matter is this.
The trade to Miami has absolutely rescued every share of Jeff Wilson,
who was going to be a zero in San Francisco behind McCaffrey and with Elijah Mitchell coming back.
Jeff Wilson goes to Miami, and he instantly outscores Rahim Moster in that game.
He's available in just under half of Yahoo Leagues.
Yeah, he's sitting at 52%.
So probably most 12-team leagues that you're playing in,
that's why we said it kind of 50%.
I would think if you're playing in a 12-team league,
he's probably not available.
But if you're playing at eight or 10-team leagues,
I would think Wilson's probably,
there's a good chance that he's sitting out there for you.
And, I mean, five days.
That's all it took.
I mean, he did play Mike McDaniel's offense in San Francisco,
so he was familiar with it.
Comes right in, and I think he's going to be the guy moving forward.
I think based on how we saw
them kind of using Chase Edmonds and Rahim Mostered at the beginning of the year.
I think they wanted Edmonds to be the guy.
And he was just bad.
I mean, they somehow were able to stick Chase Edmonds in that trade to Denver.
They took their trash off their hands.
And now Jeff Wilson set up here for, and he was playing pretty well before they traded for Christian McCaffrey.
He kind of took control of that San Francisco backfield.
So he's been playing at a high level here.
And we've seen the, the, the, the, the, the Dolphins.
offense whenever two is in the lineup. I mean, they're going to put up some points.
He might not necessarily rack up like 15 carries per game, but there's a chance he can catch
a few balls and, you know, they're going to be an offense that's going to finish in top 10 in
scoring. So there's a scoring opportunities for Jeff Wilson moving forward. So he's a guy that should
be owned and he's going to be, he has a chance to potentially get in that mid-RB2 range and maybe
even higher if he would take even more of this backfield.
We've talked about Kyron Williams a bunch on this pod.
I'm not sure how much it even matters at this point, Tom,
because they can't run the ball in L.A. anyway.
You did mention here are two guys who are available.
One is available in virtually every league.
The other is available in about two-thirds of leagues
who could potentially get more work for kind of ineffective lead guys here.
And I'm not saying that they're like a match.
PIL because I think offensive lines here are potentially a bigger issue.
But Jalen Warren and Rashad White, two rookie running backs.
We saw Najee Harris look terrible before the buy.
Jalen Warren has basically looked better and healthier than Najee Harris since the start of the season.
Meanwhile, Rashad White has been gradually getting more work.
These two rookie running backs, I wonder if maybe they could sneak their way into lineups down the stretch.
Yeah, there's certainly a chance.
And we've seen Fournett, he's struggled to stay healthy for his first five or six seasons that he's been in the lineup.
He's always missed time at some point.
And Tom Pelliserro, before that Rams Buccaneers game, I believe it was Tom Pellarcero, put out a note that they're going to get Rashad White a little bit more involved.
And it wasn't great, but he ended up leading the backfield with eight carries for 27 rushing yards.
So maybe this is a trend that's going to be something to.
keep an eye on moving forward. Maybe
White kind of takes
more of the rushing production
in this backfield.
I think Fournette's going to continue to be Brady's
guy in the passing game. In pass
protection, he does that.
He's excellent in that area.
So, but there's a chance
that he does
make this more of a 50-50 split.
So he's certainly guy, I mean,
I've had him in a lot of legs for
the entire season, waiting for something to happen.
But he has been dropped in a few.
I mean, he was probably sitting up in the 40% ownership range just a few weeks ago.
So he's sitting at 34% now with buys really settling in.
And as you said, Jalen Warren, the other guy here, Naji Harris has not been good all season.
He just doesn't look right playing on this bad foot of his.
He missed all of preseason, all of training camp for this Liz Frank sprain.
He frankly looks a little overweight and just doesn't have the same.
He was never a juicy kind of player.
He wasn't going to make you a ton of guys miss out in the open field.
But even the little bit of a lateral explosiveness that he did have,
it seems to be completely sapped with this foot injury.
And the Steelers kind of showed us a little bit how they might be thinking down the stretch here.
They were kind of hesitant to trade Chase Claypole all season.
There were teams asking about them.
And they lost their sixth game.
in week eight and they're sitting at two and six going into their buy last week.
And they decided to trade Chase Claypool.
So I think that's a signal that they kind of know their season isn't going anywhere.
And if Naji Harris is continuing to look bad and he's playing through a foot injury and it's not quite right,
there's a chance they shut him down for the entire month of December or something.
So Jaylon Warren is the type of guy I would be stashing right now.
and he's shown some chops in the passing game,
and he's certainly looked more explosive in the run game.
So he's definitely, he's only 6% owned right now, too.
So he's a guy that, I mean, just pick him up and stash him
and see how the next couple of weeks play out.
One guy I think we should mention, even though I think he's terrible and he's on a terrible team.
Zach Moss got traded to the Colts as part of the Naim Hines trade.
Jonathan Taylor, we know is banged up.
Dion Jackson got banged up in that game for the Colts.
look, I added them in a 14-team league, Tom,
where there's nothing on the waiver wire on the event that he maybe
gets some work.
We know the Colts are disaster.
Like, we don't even need to talk about the fact that they hire Jeff Saturday
to be their coach.
Like, it's unbelievable.
But I do want to throw them out there in case you're in a 14-team league
and you're just looking for somebody who there's something uncertain going on there.
Maybe they shut down Jonathan Taylor.
Who knows?
But Zach Moss maybe could get some run here in the next couple.
Yeah, not a whole lot more analysis there.
they could shut Taylor down at some point.
I mean, if it's not clear by now that they're tanking,
I don't know what else you need to see here.
So Taylor, I could see them shutting them down at some point,
trying to play through this ankle injury.
And, you know, they traded for Maa.
And they wanted him as part of the deal.
So I could see them, you know, this is the time of the year
where we're getting to that point where teams want to start evaluating for next year.
And Moss, he still has a single tarries on.
on his rookie deal, the last year of his rookie deal.
So Moss still has a year left on his rookie contract.
So they probably want to get at least a decent look at him here down the stretch.
So I'm not promising anything good out of Zach Moss.
He was a very mediocre player in Buffalo.
But there's a chance he could be getting 12 to 15 carries per game down the stretch
if Jonathan Taylor is shut down.
Let's go to the wide receiver position where our top target on the waiver wire this week
is somebody who is tied to Deshawn Watson eventually
has been making some plays Donovan Peoples-Jones
and there is a chance, T-Bro, that David Injoku is not ready to play here
for a week or two because he did have that nasty high ankle sprint.
Yeah, he's been playing really well.
He had a two-game stretch in weeks two and three where he just had a single catch.
But if you look at his sample in week one and weeks four through eight before they're by,
He's actually 12th in receiving yards.
He's been kind of filling that number two wide receiver role behind Amari Cooper.
And he stepped up in a bigger role in their last game.
Harrison Bryant was a complete non-factor in their passing game,
barely even ran any routes in that victory over the Bengals.
So it was Amari Cooper and DPJ as the main receivers,
and that was about it.
So moving forward here, if Hidoku misses a couple more games,
while Brissette's still a quarterback.
I think he's viable as a wide receiver three.
And once Deshaun Watson comes back in the lineup,
there's a chance he could become his top deep threat,
as we've seen with Rissette here.
So certainly a guy that's widely available and trending up.
Yeah, and he's a young ascending player.
He had a pretty nice pedigree coming out and kind of quiet
through the first two seasons.
But his career is on a decent trajectory here.
So certainly somebody to jump on here in case he's emerging as a little bit of a threat here.
Tom, I haven't really been paying too much attention to how many rosters Odell Beckham is on.
But I think it's probably worth checking him out to see if maybe he's available in your league,
especially if your league doesn't have an IR spot.
Yeah, we keep getting conflicting reports here.
But now it looks like based on what Jake Laser said on Sunday that kind of,
He expects to be cleared medically at least by the end of the week.
So it could be, it's going to take probably three, you know, at least three weeks,
I would think, to get ramped up to full speed.
So maybe he's back by like week 14 or so, which could be, I mean, keep your expectations
low if you decide to roster O'Dowell.
He's available in about three quarters of leagues, by the way.
Yeah.
So when we saw what he did last year with the Rams,
he had a lot of usable fantasy performances,
including in the playoffs.
So if he lands in the right situation,
maybe there's a chance he can make an immediate impact.
But we'll see.
At this point, if you're in a deeper league,
and there's really nothing out there on the waiver wire,
he's certainly worth a look at this point.
Let's now move on over to the,
Well, actually, is there anybody else that wide receiver, Tom, who really catches your eye?
It's tough right now.
John Dotson's been dropped in a ton of leagues, but that hamstring injury is obviously
lingered.
I think Darvis Lantry is a look here.
He almost was back in the lineup this week.
They've ramped him up.
That Steelers secondary has been pretty pitiful all season long, although they're getting some
reinforcements.
But I could see him with no Michael Thomas around.
They were really struggling with.
He could really help out, I think, right now,
an Andy Dalton or maybe if it's James Winston,
if they turn back to him, in that like underneath
the intermediate area.
They don't really have that guy in their offense right now.
Chris Olavé is playing well,
but he's more of the deeper threat in this offense.
So maybe Jarvis Landry can carve out a little rule.
And he's been very good for fantasy, you know,
as a PPR wider,
receiver three in the past. So a guy that has been, you know, nobody owns him at this point.
And one other, let's, let's shoot for the moon here, Joe.
Struggling, struggling, struggling offense. How about Samaray Tore?
Who's been making some plays for the attackers.
Romeo Dobbs is, uh, Dobbs has been, uh, going to be out for four to six weeks with a high
ankle sprain. There's, you know, there's a chance we might not see him the rest of the year.
Christian Watson, I feel bad for the kid. He, he, he's,
just having a lost rookie season,
suffered another concussion in their loss of the Lions.
And Alan Lazard, he's a gamer, man.
He played through that shoulder injury.
He was the only player that really showed up for that offense in week nine.
But like we've been saying here,
we're starting to get to that time of year
where if a guy's playing through an injury
and your team isn't going anywhere,
he could get shut down.
So Toray is a guy that's been making a little bit of noise.
they drafted him in the seventh round.
So they, he was definitely on their radar.
So, you know, this is, this is only a 14 or 16 team league, but probably worth a little bit of a look here.
He does have some downfield juice for this offense.
I think maybe one of the most actionable guys to pick up, Tom, potentially right now,
is somebody was drafted in the top 10 rounds in, in the summer.
Then Justin Fields came out in the first like week and a half of the,
first like half part of the season,
didn't look like he had any clue what he was doing,
and then it started to figure stuff out over the last month.
It has raised the value of Cole Commet,
who scored three touchdowns over the past two games.
Again, I don't think this is going to be a guy who is going to carry your lineup
because ultimately the bears still aren't throwing the ball.
They don't have a lot of weapons.
But,
Col Commet could potentially be somebody who gets in your lineup.
You know, if you have Tyler Higby whose role has completely evaporated,
you got to make a change, and Col Commets potentially you've got to do that with.
Yeah, as you said, Higby is kind of a guy that's trending downward here.
Maybe Commet's trending up.
And, I mean, they have a pretty nice little schedule here over the next two games, at least.
If you're in a by Quagmire, if you had Mark Andrews, or you've been used.
using Hayden Hurst as your tight end.
They got the lines this week and they got the Falcons next week.
Two matchups that we want to attack with our passing games.
So this is an offense that's put up 29 points or more in three straight games in the Chicago Bears.
Who would have thought after watching that offense through the first month of the season?
But here we are.
They're playing much better.
Justin Fields is starting to look for him in the red zone.
he's not going to get a lot of all.
This offense is not going to be one that throws it 30 plus times.
And we're already contending with Darnel Mooney.
They added Chase Claypole.
So it's not he's not going to rack up five or six catches per game.
But this is more of a play for hopefully he scores a touchdown.
And maybe he's developing into his guy here in the red zone.
So he's certainly got its trending upward here after a glit.
Lacially slow start through the first seven or eight, six or seven weeks.
Good word there, Tom.
A guy coming off a by the way, who I think is a weekly starter at tight end is Greg Dolchich.
He's just really making an impact there for Denver.
And quite frankly, I mean, since he's returned to the lineup,
Russell Wilson has been slightly better.
I'm not saying he's been good.
I'm just saying he's been slightly better.
And potentially over the buy, they were able to incorporate him even more into this
offense.
Yeah, that's true.
That's a great point.
He missed basically all the preseason in the first, I think it was the first four or five games of the year.
And just got kind of thrown into the fire here.
And he's performed well, even with a lack of practice time and getting reps with Russell Wilson here.
So he's been playing well.
Cortland Sutton has been trending down the last couple of weeks.
And, I mean, based on what I saw in that London game, I mean, that offense was very,
stagnant and Tolstitch made a couple of big plays on their first drive out of the
half time and really kickstarted that offense. So I could see him starting to be a staple of
this offense. I mean, we know the running game's going to suck. They traded for Chase Edmonds.
They got Latavius Murray. They got Melvin Gordon. So they're still going to probably have
to skew a little bit more pass heavy. And I'm kind of stunned in how many leagues he got dropped
in. I play in a couple different leagues where I playing a Yahoo Public League were
got dropped because he was on by.
And I snatched him up and stashed him.
And he's still out there in basically 65% of leagues.
So I mean, we're struggling at the tight end position as well.
And this guy has the looks of a guy that could hang around and be a top 12 player
the rest of the season.
All right, Tom, that's going to wrap it up for the week 10 waiver wire podcast.
Again, I mean, if you have your, if you have your fab budget, I mean, it's possible that
the most impactful guys on this list are really just the boring old handcuffs, the Samajai
P-Rawai.
the Dantrell Hilliards, the Matt Bredas, guys who don't have standalone value right now,
but there is potentially an injury.
So maybe those are the guys who you start to consider picking up.
I don't like to handcuff really early in the year.
Yeah, Joe, you don't even have to handcuff your own guys.
I mean, you can handcuff other players.
I mean, it's not just because, you know, I have Derek Henry.
I've got to get Dantrell Hillier.
You can get other guy.
You can get a burrito.
You can get a Zemir White if Josh Jacobs would go down.
So, I mean, it's not just handcuffing your own players.
Not to like pick on Skymore or whatever, but if you've been stashed like Skymore all year, all year, all right?
It's not going to happen, okay?
Like, this is what, early in the season, I don't like to handcuff because I think it makes my roster worse.
Like, I would rather have more, I would rather have more irons in the fire than I do, like, as opposed to taking out an insurance.
policy.
But things have changed.
Your stashes, it is now week 10.
It is less likely that these guys are going to work out.
And you have to ask yourself a question.
All right.
I have, like, again, not to pick on Skymore, but I have Skymore on my roster.
He's at the end of my roster hasn't done anything, okay?
Well, first and foremost, I'm not playing them this week because I have to see it
happen first.
So at the bare minimum, what are you waiting to week 11, week 12?
That this is when you can drop a stash.
pick up a backup quarterback, pick up a handcuff.
Like, that is how I manage my roster late in the year.
Tom, even in the next couple of weeks,
that's when I'm okay picking up a second defense as well.
Yes, yeah, yeah, that's, this is the time of year we start playing that game
where we look ahead at schedules and, oh, this team has two easy matchups coming up in 13 and 14.
Let's add them now before they become the team defense to pick up off the waiver wire week 13.
So, yeah, this is the time to start mapping out.
out what your team kind of looks like down the stretch here.
As you said, I like that.
The irons in the fire early in the season.
You want to see what hits.
You're going to whiff on a lot of things,
