Happy Tuesday, everyone.
Welcome to the week two waiver wire podcast here at FantasyPoint.com.
My name is Joe Dolan.
His name is Tom Brawley, and we will be doing this every week throughout the NFL.
NFL season on Tuesday before everybody goes and runs their waivers on Tuesday night, Tom.
It is, let's just call it like it is. It's the part of fantasy football that wins you leagues.
It's also tedious, and that's where you can get an advantage, right? I mean, everybody loves the waivers.
You know, you're going to have some league mates who are going to blow out their budgets in week one,
and we'll talk about whether or not that's prudent. But Tom, it's, it's going to, it's going to
it's good to be back with you. There were some very key injuries in week one that we've got to get to
that really results in my opinion in one guy really being at the top of the waiver wire, and we'll get to that.
But the one thing I do want to throw out to people is I think Fab recommendations are one of the hardest things to do.
It's very specific. It's case-by-case basis. One thing you can do is if you subscribe to FantasyPoints.com and use code Broly 22.
you do get access to our subscriber discord, which gives you a direct line to our staff.
And I think we can really kind of help you through that process as in exact the science as it is.
We can help you through that process on our subscriber discord.
Tom, you're going to be in there on Tuesdays.
I'm in there pretty much throughout the week answering questions.
And it's really a great tool for the Fantasy Point subscribers.
So just wanted to throw that out there.
T-Bro, how you doing today? I know you had a really long weekend writing up the Waverwire.
I think the first one of the year is always difficult because you're really just starting from scratch.
Yeah, this article on the website, the weekly WaverWire article that we do is kind of like a living, breathing.
We just keep kind of updating it as the season goes and, you know, we rework the blurbs every week.
So this is really starting from scratch this week.
But so I was up till past the end of the kickoff on, you know,
the end of the game on Sunday night, the Tampa Bay Dallas game.
So it's been a long couple of days here.
I got a great night of sleep after watching that game last night after Russell Wilson
and Nathaniel Hackett really blew that one against the Seahawks.
So I slept pretty well watching that.
So ready to go here.
I don't know, Joe, if there's necessarily that fab guy that we're going to blow out the budget for this week.
But, you know, there were some key injuries.
We had Deck Prescott go down at quarterback.
Certainly, he's, Jerry Jones is saying this Tuesday morning that they're not going to put him on IR,
even though the injury looks like it's going to be an eight-week injury.
So that would be a bizarre decision.
But it looks like we're going to be without deck Prescott for a couple of weeks.
weeks at least. Eli Mitchell's the big injury overall and at running back here. We'll get into
that position here shortly. And receiver, you know, there was a couple. Keenan Allen picked up a
hamstring injury. They played Thursday night. So he's unlikely to play. And T. Higgins also
suffered a concussion against the Steelers in week one. So those are kind of the big injuries coming
out a week one that kind of affecting the waiver wire this week.
I do want to talk about the DAC Prescott situation here because I recorded my daily lineup
this morning and, you know, we go to bed last week, last night, rather, and it's, oh, it could
be six to eight weeks, which is kind of what was anticipated.
And then I'm like, okay, week nine, the Cowboys have a buy.
Maybe he's back week 10.
Then we wake up this morning and Tom Pelliserra says, oh,
the surgery went well, it could be four to six weeks. Okay, that's on the quicker side, but it's
happened before. And then Jerry Jones says this morning that they're not even putting
Dak Prescott on IR. I got to be honest though, Tom. I don't deny that they want to bring
Dak Prescott back before the four-week time period. But why would we choose to believe Jerry
Jones saying Dak Prescott isn't going to go on IR? Why would we choose to believe that as being
anything but reckless right now, given what the Cowboys did this offseason. Everything they did was
reckless. So why would, why would this be any different? I don't see any difference here. And even if they
do bring them back after, you know, four or five weeks here, you know, that's on the short side.
You know, how effective is he going to be? You can't be completely healed at that point.
This, you know, pretty major surgery on your hand. You know, it's, it's the, it's the, it's the
thumb. That controls everything on the football there. So, um, they made some, uh,
interesting decisions here.
You know, Michael Gallup even,
it seems like they might be kind of rushing him along here as well.
I was kind of surprised he didn't open the season on the PUP list,
but they decided to bring him back.
We saw what happened to Chris Godwin, you know,
eight months into a nine-month recovery.
Now he's looking at it, extended absence with a hamstring injury.
So, you know, Michael Gallup could be, you know,
if they rush him back here.
So just bizarre.
decisions coming out of the big D here.
All right, Tom.
So let's get into the top
waiver wire guy, and I don't think this
is going to be any surprise. It is
Jeff Wilson of the San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers spend
insane draft capital on running
backs basically every year.
They doghouse those running backs.
And then, you know, last year, obviously
Eli Mitchell, as the six-rounder was the
lead back. And then Jeff Wilson
is the cockroach in this backfield.
You cannot get rid of this.
guy. I presume, presume, because this is Kyle Shanahan, Jeff Wilson for the next two months will be
the top back, or at least at the onset of the next two months will be the top back in San Francisco.
But I do want to talk Tyrion Davis Price as part of this. But Jeff Wilson, for immediate impact,
Tom, I think he's the guy. Yeah, we saw it right in that game. Going into week one,
Tyrion Davis Price was a healthy scratch. They elected to go with Jeff, just Jeff. Just
Wilson as the number two back and Jordan Mason was active but he wasn't involved in the backfield.
He was strictly special teams in that game. Mitchell gets hurt, takes the helmet to the knee there
in the second quarter. Wilson took every snap after that game, after the injury in that game.
Jordan Mason was not involved in the backfield. So, you know, all indications are that
Jeff Wilson's going to probably be the guy here for the time being. That was the vibe coming out at the
at the end of training camp as well.
But, you know, Wilson is the guy to add this week.
He's the priority.
But in every league I'm in, I'm also putting a smaller bid.
I'm also going after Tyrion Davis Price.
I don't know if he'll be usable in the next week or two,
but this is looking like an eight-week injury for Mitchell.
And I would not be surprised if Tyrion Davis-Price
becomes the lead runner in this backfield, you know,
in a couple of weeks here.
then Jeff Wilson maybe moves back into more of a change of pace.
I would be surprised if TDP gets the passing game work,
but the passing game stuff would probably still be Jeff Wilson's.
Wilson is the priority this week,
but I'm also putting smaller bids in for Tyrion Davis' place.
By the way, Kyle Shanahan confirmed it after the game.
Again, he could well be lying through his teeth.
Yes, he always does, but yeah.
The usage of Jordan Mason, the fact that he didn't play on offense, even after Mitchell went down, suggests that, and he said it, Davis Price was inactive because of special teams reasons.
Yes.
They trust Mason more on special teams.
Probably not going to matter, Tom, because they can now have both of the guys active going forward.
But Davis Price is going to get some run in this backfield.
And it wouldn't shock me if he becomes the long-term answer here, Tom.
And here's the thing about Davis-Price.
That's a great point, Joe, because Michigan.
Mitchell has not been able to stay healthy.
His entire rookie campaign, he had a hamstring injury in August.
You know, if Davis Price gets a chance in this backfield,
we saw what Mitchell did with it last year.
He took it and ran with it.
Yeah.
We could be in a similar situation this year.
So that's why I'm more of, if I'm thinking more long term with my team,
Davis Price is a guy I really want.
Yeah.
So Davis Price is the guy for sure.
Like, again, yeah, Mitchell might come back and Davis Price might have
ripped off at that stage, you know, an eight-game stretch where he ran for 550 yards,
and then they're like, why does Mitchell, Mitchell doesn't get the ball again? So that's entirely
possible here in the backfield with the 49ers. Tom, you want to talk Pittsburgh.
Yeah. It was looking like Jalen Warren was going to be a guy, but Najee Harris aggravates that
foot injury. I don't know if I buy the rhetoric that he could play on Sunday, but behind that
offensive line with Trubisky at quarterback. I'm not sure Jalen Warren is a really appealing
option for me this week. I mean, maybe if I'm trying for, I think I'd try for both Wilson
and Davis Price before I try for Jalen Warren. Oh, definitely, definitely. At the very least,
if you're a Naji Harris owner at this point, I mean, we saw him rest for multiple weeks because
of the Liz Frank's brain in his foot. And now, if we aggravated the injury here, or if it's,
even if it's just like a separate issue, but, you know, there are some serious causes of,
for concern here with Najee Harris at this point.
Jaylen Warren, I'm not totally convinced that he would get, you know, the Belcal type of
usage that Najee Harris has seen in this backfield since his rookie season.
I don't know.
I kind of, you know, as a Steelers fan and who follows this, I kind of think Benny Snell will
definitely factor in on the early.
downs. He'll, you know, he'll take some snaps away from him. I could even see Anthony McFarlane
being used in passing situation. So I think it would be Warren, you know, probably getting
50 to 60 percent of the snaps, but I do think Snell and McFarland would mix in. So, you know,
given the issues, issues with the Steelers offensive line and just Mitch Trubisky overall, you know,
it's not necessarily, I'm not dying to have the back in this kind of a bad on.
offense at this point. That's only getting 50% of the work. It's, you know, it's not an ideal
situation here. Tom, I hate, I hate that we have to talk about this. Shame on me for buying into
the rhetoric from a coach who would, who instead of going for a fourth and short to potentially
win a football game decides to punt for a tie, forgive me for buying too much into the fact that
Lovie Smith said Damien Pierce is his starter, but Damien Pierce was not even even close to the lead back in Houston.
That doesn't mean he won't be at some point, but Rex Burke had played 70 freaking 1% of the snaps.
That's more than D'Andre Swift played in week one.
Yeah, just absolutely bizarre.
And they gave Damien Pierce the kind of the starter treatment all preseason.
You know, he had the nice final, you know, first drive in the third preseason game and they pulled him right away.
he sat in the second game with the rest of a lot of the starters there so just bizarre we get we get into the first action and they build a lead and they go with the veteran to try to muckle clock so and they were using you know we kind of anticipated burke head would probably be involved in the passing situations they you know they didn't want to put all everything on damien pierce's plate right away but this was a perfect situation to you know run the rookie you have a nice big
big lead and Rex Burkhead finishes with more carries in this game. So it's, you know,
Damien Pierce owners. It's good, you know, he's eventually going to be the no doubt lead guy in
this backfield, but I guess it's going to be, take a little bit longer here. So Rex Burkhead's
definitely viable if you're looking for like a one, one to one to three week type of guy who can,
you know, maybe get you 12 to 15, you know, carries and receptions in the next couple of the next
couple of weeks here.
Anybody else at the running back stand out to you, Tom?
I mean, Khalil Herbert, I don't know how much I can really glean from that Bears 49ers game,
quite frankly.
Like, it was in such sloppy conditions.
I think it's unfair to judge both Fields and Lance from that game.
It looks like Jamal Williams.
Now, he's rostered in a pretty high percentage of leagues.
We don't write up a guy for the waiver wire unless it's sub-50% on Yahoo.
Jamal Williams is at 47%.
But it's probably worth pointing out, Tom, that if the lions are going to be better this year and could have more goal line opportunities, it looks like Jamal Williams is going to steal some of those.
Yeah, he came in, scored two short touchdowns at the one-yard line.
I think he got banged up relatively early last year.
I don't think he was completely right either.
So he's certainly viable.
There's some lesser-owned guys here, though, Joe.
I think, or at least worth Stash is here.
You know, Kenyon Drake, we had questions about what that Ravens backfield was going to look like.
He was the lead guy.
He played 59% of the snaps.
The Ravens are having some issues right now with their offensive line.
And the running game, period.
They did lose Juan James in that game.
And Ronnie Stanley has just been a mess.
at left tackle ever since he signed his big contract two years ago.
But Drake has kind of established himself as the top guy in this backfield for now.
We'll see Dobbins if he can get into the mix here anytime soon.
But, you know, he's a guy that, I mean, we don't know what Dobbins is going to look like when he does get back.
So, and Gus Edwards is in a similar boat here.
So maybe Drake is a guy you pick up and maybe he ends up painting out to be top back here in Baltimore.
And Eno Benjamin, I thought that was an interesting little development.
You know, it was a game there against the Chiefs that got kind of ugly,
but Darrell Williams didn't see a single snap in that game.
So it was all Eno Benjamin as the number two back.
Everybody knows James Conner's injury history.
So he's kind of like the Jeff Wilson.
I added Jeff Wilson in a couple leagues last week before week one started,
just because I know Eli Mitchell is a injury risk.
You know, Benjamin could be that guy this week where you're picking up.
If something happens to James Connor, then you have that guy that everybody would be looking to get off of the Waverware.
And just the Chiefs backfield here as well.
Jerich McKinnon is only owned in 55% of leagues.
He basically split the snaps dead even with Clyde Edwards-Hillera in that game.
That's a great option.
Scored the two touchdowns, but that's a guy to keep an eye on.
And Pacheco, it was all in kind of garbage time stuff, but he did run well.
So we want pieces of the Chiefs offense.
So both of those guys are worth considering it.
It's just deeper bench stashes.
Let's go to wide receiver, Tom.
I think the story of week one is the commander's receiver breakdown.
Terry McClaren did get in the end zone.
That kind of saved his day a little bit.
But, man, Jehan Dodson and Curtis Samuel out of nowhere.
Now, Curtis Samuels had his problems with injuries.
But, I mean, Dotson's available in three quarters of Yahoo Leagues.
Curtis Samuel is almost guaranteed to be available in your Yahoo League.
And the commanders really, really kind of, let's just say it, they used a rotation at wide receiver,
and Carson Wentz distributed the ball.
Yeah, I mean, they both played well.
Samuel, we didn't really know what his role was going to be coming into this season.
but they this was the playbook that the Panthers had for him back in 2020 before he signed
his big contract the next off season and that was kind of his usage he got some carries in this
offense made some plays look like to like his old explosive self here so he's certainly
viable only 4% owned in Yahoo and Dotson you know we if anybody's been following the site
and probably already have him we were way above market on Jahad Dotson we think he's going to be
a star and nothing that we saw in week one will deter us from that take, scoring the two
touchdowns. I would have liked to seen a little bit better target share, only five targets
overall for a 12% share in that game. But, you know, we think bigger things are going to be
coming for Dotson as the season goes along. So good start in that first game. And certainly,
guys, you want to look at off the waiver wire this week. Joshua Palmer, Tom. Let's go.
Heenan Allen's not going to play.
He had just three catches for five yards in week one,
but he played almost all the snaps after Keenan Allen went down with the hamstring injury.
And now, I want to throw this out there.
Keenan Allen missed one game a season ago.
In that game, Josh Palmer was basically his answer.
He was basically the surrogate.
He came in there.
He played 87% of the snaps.
This was against the Giants last year.
Five for 66 and a touchdown.
down on seven targets. We're going to have a huge over-under in this game between the Chiefs
and the Chargers. I think you can make an argument, Josh Palmer's like a top 25 wide receiver
this week. Yeah, I was done. I didn't know you were going to get top 25. I was going to say at least
a wide receiver three this week. Yeah. With, you know, I don't know if he's going to take over all
of Keene Allen's work, but in terms of targets, but he's going to see a hefty amount of snaps.
And I almost felt like the Chargers were kind of holding some stuff back. They had a pretty big
leading that game for most of the second half.
You know, even how they used Austin Echler at the end of that game,
they were kind of resting them up because they know,
this is a huge game this week against the Chiefs on Thursday night football.
So Palmer, Palmer is like my must add one week play this week.
We have a couple of leagues where we drafted them.
We're expecting big things up from him.
He had a really strong training camp from all reports,
an ascending player in his second season.
he's kind of my priority off of the waiver wire this week.
Keenan got banged up a little bit towards the end of last year,
so not off to a great start with the hamstring injury here in week one.
So, you know, if that turns into a lingering issue for him,
Josh Palmer is the type of guy who, I don't know if I want to go say he's a league winner,
but he could be a major difference maker if he ends up getting elevated into that number
two wide receiver spot here in Los Angeles.
anything else at the wide receiver position
interest you?
Honestly, Donovan People's Jones?
That was the one. That was the one, Joe.
Yeah, how about that?
I mean, he was kind of used like the number one wide receiver in the offense last week.
Full-time starter next to Amari Cooper.
And that was the matchup that Jacoby percent was throwing at it.
11 targets, 32 percent share.
And he did pretty well with it.
It's six for 60 overall.
ran around on 92% of Brissette's dropbacks.
So, and this is, he was kind of, you know, it was a only average 10 yards of reception in that contest.
But he's been a big player in his first two seasons, averaging 18.8 yards per reception.
So maybe this is the start of something pretty good for DPJ.
So only 4% owned in Yahoo.
So, you know, if I'm in deeper leagues, he's a guy I'm kind of looking at.
A little deeper here.
Kyle Phillips led the Titans and Targets in that game.
We have Trailing Berks on here.
He's sub-50% owned.
But it was a rough summer for him,
but he did make a couple of plays in that game.
So I would not be shocked if these rookie wide receivers in Tennessee
are kind of top targets here going forward.
Robert Woods didn't play particularly well,
struggled in his first game back.
so Berks and Phillips are two
Burks is a higher own type of guy
but Phillips if you're really looking deep
for a wide receiver could be a got to look at here
anything at tight end Tom stand out to you
after week one I gotta be honest man
I
Taysam Hill if there is more appeal
to Taseham Hill than there is for like a lot of these
scrub tight ends I got to I got to tell you that
Like, you know, some of these guys that you're really, if you're looking to think outside the box,
Taysam Hill is an opportunity, but is there a more traditional tight end who stands out to you?
This tight end is tough.
I did like what we talked about the Washington receivers earlier.
Logan Thomas, I just had no expectations for him this summer.
But he kind of surprised me by playing in week one.
He played on 62% of the snaps.
He had major ACL injury.
at the end of, I think in December, or maybe it was late November last year.
He was supposedly had, you know, other ligament issues with that injury.
But he came out and played a healthy number of snaps in week one, saw six targets.
Carson Wentz has been a quarterback that has targeted his tight ends quite a bit over the years with the Eagles and with Colts last year.
So a guy that's only 6% owned and I'm not expecting big things from him, but,
You know, he's, he's one of those guys that could get you four for 40 most weeks here.
So, you know, he's a guy that I did not expect to be an early season factor here.
Tyler Conklin, Dom Centerino is doing tight-end streamers on FantasyPoints.com.
Obviously, that'll be a weekly article, three great quarterbacks, three great tight ends that you can pick up off the waiver wire.
Domson-Torino pointed out that only Dalton Schultz, Dallas, Goddard, and Tyler Higby played more snap.
than a higher percentage of his team snaps than Tyler Conklin in week number one.
And Conklin scored the Jets lone touchdown in that case.
Yeah, I have the breakdown in the article.
It was 92% snap share compared to CJ Usoma at 27%.
And his route share was 81% to Uzoma's 18%.
So that aligns with everything that Adam Kaplan, our NFL insider,
told us during, you know, throughout August that Conklin was really impressing the team.
Both Joe Flacco and Zach Wilson, you know, loved throwing to him.
And he's, you know, literally out there for free, 2% owned right now.
The only problem is you have Joe Flacco and Zach Wilson throwing him the ball.
But, you know, other than that, you know, he's looking really good here with a really nice workload in week one.
Anything of quarterback, Tom, that stands out to you.
That quarterback's more of like a, I think, a streaming position.
I don't think there's anybody I'm looking at a quarterback who I'm like,
oh my God, this guy's going to change my fortunes in my league.
But hey, you know, James Winston got going if in the second half after doing nothing in the first half,
which is very much James Winston's style.
Yeah, Marriota and Winston are kind of like the long-term guys.
If you just lost Dak Prescott and you're looking for a guy.
can hopefully fill in for you for the next, you know, at least the next four weeks.
Those would be the two guys. Marriota, you know, ran really well.
All pre-season long, it looked like, you know, he looked healthy.
That was kind of his issue towards the end of his tenure down there in Tennessee.
He just never looked completely right.
So he looks as healthy as he has in quite a few years.
And they ran him, you know, that was probably one of the more surprising things to me out of week one
was just how well the Falcons ran the ball on that Saints run defense.
The Saints had top five run defense all of last season.
Falcons, you know, really, that was one of their biggest weaknesses all last season,
was running the ball.
So that was one of the most surprising matchup.
It would look like a complete mismatch going into that game,
and they were able to run for 200 yards in that game.
So Marriota, you know, Marriota and Winston are guys that, you know,
maybe if you lost that press card, you're looking for the game.
the next couple of weeks. And if, you know, just looking for maybe a streamer here for this week,
let's look at Carson Lenz. He's coming off, you know, we talked up his receivers here earlier in the
podcast. I mean, he has arguably as good a cast as he's ever had at receiver. If Jahan
Dodson and Curtis Samuel continue to ascend here, he's coming off his first four touchdown
passing game since he tore his ACL, that faithful day back in 2017. So,
and he's got the match-up.
You know, Joe, you watch that Eagles, Lions game.
You know, I think that's going to be probably a track meet again this week.
You know, I'm only looking one way on Lions games right now,
and that's towards overs any time they play.
Well, go ahead.
Well, I mean, that makes sense for the Lions.
Like, their offense was, look, the Eagles couldn't tackle a soul in that game,
but the Lions' offense looks live.
They've got some weapons.
The offensive line is good.
And they're not going to slow anybody down.
So we're going to get some, right.
We're going to get some shootouts involving them.
So, yeah, absolutely.
Wentz is, you know, kind of a guy if you're looking for a one-week streamer this week.
All right, T-Brow. That'll do it for the Waverwire podcast here at FantasyPoints.com.
Now, obviously, we only talked about a handful of guys at each position.
There's going to be a point during the season where there's 60 plus guys on the WaverWire article.
As Tom mentioned, it's a living, breathing organism of an article.
Like this thing is constantly evolving.
It's constantly growing.
It sheds some skin and it brings in new layers throughout the weeks.
Both Tom Broley and John Hansen have their fingerprints all over this article.
It's really a comprehensive.
And believe me, if you're like, oh my God, you idiots, you're talking about Derek McKinnon.
My league is sharp.
Not Jerk McKinnon's not available in my league.
Well, we have guys who, I guarantee you, we have guys in this article who are available in your league if you need somebody to pick up.
