It's time for the Fantasy Points podcast, brought to you by FantasyPoints.com.
Top level fantasy football and NFL betting analysis from every perspective and angle,
from numbers to the film room, with a single goal to help you score more fantasy points.
It means it's Waver Day.
My name's Joe Dolan.
This is the Fantasy Points podcast.
His name is Tom Broly, joining me as he does every Tuesday for the Waiverwire podcast at FantasyPoint.com
in the Fantasy Points podcast. My name is Joe and Tom. I already said that, by the way.
so, uh, yeah, it's been a rough week. Let's put it that way. I'm repeating myself.
Um, I'll probably try to shut up as much as possible on this podcast because Tom, you're the one.
You are the man behind the waiver wire. John Hansen puts his finishing touches on it,
but you're the man behind it. And some weeks, the waiver wire is barren. Other weeks,
it is not. And I think this week is, uh, certainly one of those weeks where there's
is going to be some players out there who can really help your team.
Tebrough, what's going on?
I know there were some really devastating injuries,
some interesting situations that happened this week.
But unfortunately, it is an inescapable part of the game of football.
Yeah, this is, we've had some pretty blah,
waiver wire weeks so far this year,
but this is definitely one of the more important ones.
The big injury coming out of week four was Javonte Williams.
I know a lot of our subscribers,
obviously drafted him.
We were pushing him, you know, the last two years, we really love his talent.
And unfortunately, he suffered a pretty devastating ACL, LCL, PCL.
He got all the CLs torn in that game in week four.
So he's looking at a pretty lengthy recovery here.
I know Edwin was comparing it to the J.K. Dobbins injury,
which basically took them 13 months to get back onto the field.
So this is an injury that can linger into the start of next season.
So unfortunately there, a lot of people are going to be without Giovante for the rest of the season.
And other injuries, of course, the 2-0 injury on Thursday night last week.
We'll have people scrambling for some quarterbacks.
The good news is this is actually a week where there are some quarterbacks that will probably,
We don't typically spend a ton of time on quarterbacks,
but there's a few that we should talk about this week.
Jonathan Taylor is a big one here going into Thursday night.
We dodged a big bullet there.
It looked like it could be a high ankle sprain initially,
but it looks like I have a hard time believing he'll play Thursday night
with such a quick turnaround.
But we'll see.
He is a freak of nature.
He actually just missed his first practice last week with a toe injury.
And that dates back to his high school and college career.
So he is an Ironman, but even this one, I kind of have a tough time believing that he'll be ready to go.
And on the smaller, on the lower end, at receiver, there was, James and Crowder broke his ankle.
Treelon Burks has a foot injury.
So, yeah, this is, this was, I was waiting for it, Joe.
It's been relatively quiet so far this year in terms of injuries.
but this was a rough week here in week four.
Okay, so let's start with Giovante Williams.
Look, I'm not, obviously, if you drafted Giovante Williams, okay, this is a devastating blow.
But, you know, I still think the rationale behind it, of course, you don't draft a guy
when I'm like, and predict that he's going to suffer a devastating knee injury.
But like, the rationale behind it was Melvin Gordon's getting older, he has ball security issues.
Well, Melvin Gordon has put the ball on the ground a lot.
Tom. And I mean, this guy has actively hurt the Denver Broncos this year. Like actively
Fumble six last week that, you know, basically was the difference in the game. He fumbled at the
goal line, you know, in week one. So this, this guy is a player who is costing his team. Melvin Gordon
is obviously going to get the first shot in the Denver backfield. I'm not trying to say otherwise.
But a guy who is absolutely guaranteed to be available in your league, like virtually available in
every league there is is Mike Boone, who got the third down work, doesn't have a crippling
problem, at least that I know of. This is a guy who, Tom, I'm, I am willing to take a shot on Mike
Boone in just about every league I'm in in the event that Melvin Corbyn can't stop putting the ball
on the turn. Yeah, I have gotten some fab questions about Melvin Gordon and Lig's where he has
been dropped. You empty, we're laying out the negatives for Melvin Gordon, but he also,
also is a proven NFL running back.
He's who had a lot of, he has a track record of success.
So if he has been dropped in your league and you're a Javante owner, just empty the chamber.
Just put it all, you know, this is, this is an injury that could really cripple your team moving forward.
So if there's a chance that you could get his replacement, you go for it, you empty the chamber.
A lot, you know, most people listening to this are not going to have that option.
They have, you know, what's left on the waiver wire.
And that guy is Mike Boone at zero percent owned on Yahoo.
who literally out there in pretty much every league of people that are listening to here,
unless you're playing in like a 20-team league.
So Mike Boone, he's been mostly, you know, a backup throughout his career.
You know, started in Minnesota behind Dalvin Cook and was playing behind Alexander Madison there.
And now he's, he was in Denver here behind Javentay and Melvin Gordon.
But they like him.
You know, George Patton brought him over.
He was the GM over in Minnesota.
And they brought him brought him to Denver whenever.
the regime got here. So he'll be elevated to the number two spot. They did sign Latavius Murray from the Saints
Practice squad who looked good. I, you know, we're probably going to get some questions about that. I would
still prioritize Mike Boone. Latavius is a 32, 33 year old back at this point. You know, I wouldn't expect
him to have, you know, much continued success moving forward. And he's been, you know, bouncing around the
the last couple of years anyway.
So Boone, he's been working more in passing situations up to this point.
And the Broncos with Russell Wilson, I mean, a lot of it was because
Javonte Williams is in the backfield, but they have targeted their backs the second most
in the league.
So there's a chance for at least a nice little PPR role as a passing back in this
offense.
And as you laid out at the very beginning, four fumbles and four games, he's lost, you
know, this is Melvin Gordon, lost two of them, you know, critical one and week one at the goal line.
And then last week's fumble six for the Raiders, which completely swung a game.
I think it was tied or very tight game at that point in the second quarter when he did that.
So he could be on some thin ice here, but I still think he's going to get the first crack.
He should have a little bit of rope here since he is clearly the far more proven back.
but if you're a Javante owner, you got it.
You're desperate at this point.
So, you know, take a shot of Mike Boone.
Maybe we'll see how, you know, they play on Thursday night here.
We'll see how this backfill kind of shakes out.
We'll see if it's just how big of a split it is between Melvin Gordon,
Mike Boone here on Thursday night.
So, Tom, I just want to call this out here because he's eligible to return in week five from the NFI list.
He is rostered in 53% of leagues, which is certainly on the con.
of being worth talking about on the waiver wire.
Tom, you usually cut it at 50% unless the situation is special.
My typical thinking is, you know, I play in a mostly 12-team leagues,
but I'm in some 10-team.
I do some of those Yahoo public leagues.
And 50% I feel like is, you know, that's like a 10-team.
You'll see some guys that are owned at 50% and 10-team.
But if you're in a 12-team league, you know,
Brian Robinson's been snatched up for me.
Whoa, I just had a baseball bat fall behind me.
It didn't hit me, though, thank God.
I don't know. But, yeah, so Brian, you know, we've talked about him plenty of the last couple of weeks.
And Antonio Gibson kind of a flash in a pan there the first week or two of this season,
and he's come crashing back to Earth.
So they're looking for anything to kickstart their running game.
So Brian Robinson could be that guy.
And I don't think he's not going to be, you know, roster, I mean,
the lineup worthy right out of the gate here.
We want to see how it kind of plays out.
but he's a long-term play here, maybe in two to three weeks.
Once he gets his legs back underneath him, he could be the lead runner here in Washington.
Oh, by the way, just again, Naim Hines, almost certainly rostered in your league.
Yeah.
But yeah, he could be the guy this week if Taylor.
I have no interest in Philip Lindsay whatsoever.
No, I'd rather have Dion Jackson.
But, you know, now, this is, it's probably a one-week injury.
So, yeah, if Hines is out there, obviously, you grab them.
you play them as probably a high-end RB-2, maybe even a high,
a low-end RB1 this week.
He's an immediate plug-in-play if he's somehow sitting out in your waiver wire.
Let's get that one more.
Yeah, the Falcons is who I wanted to talk about with that.
I kind of missed that one in the injury talk there at the beginning.
Cordero Patterson came into the week, came into last week on the injury report.
It was a knee issue, and he tried to play through it.
Thankfully, if you used him, he did score a touchdown,
but he didn't play much, really, after the first couple drives of the seat,
of that game against the Browns.
So it was Tyler Algier, rookie fifth round pick out of BYU.
You know, we pushed him a little bit this summer, you know, leading up to the year.
You know, he's not going to do much in the passing game,
but he's a downhill thumper.
And he did have a pretty nice game with a little bit of volume.
He's probably more of a volume back.
You know, one of those grinder types that, you know, if he gets 15 plus carries, he starts to be, you know, he's a little more effective.
But they were also using Caleb Huntley. They pulled him off the practice squad. He's a ball state. He's a little bowling ball out of ball state.
So he's also going to mix in. But I would prioritize Tyler Alger, you know, maybe there's a chance that he kind of, you know, grabs a hold of this role.
And Cordero Paterson's on the IR. So he's out at least through.
week eight. So the problem is Damien Williams could also be in the mix, starting in week six.
And the way they opened the season, it sure looked like they wanted Damian Williams to kind of be the
lead runner over Cordero Patterson. They wanted Patterson more to be, you know, as a change of pace
and passing back, you know, all the, all the secondary stuff. But he got hurt like immediately in that
week one game. So he'll be back in week six. If you're in really deep leagues,
I would put in a buck or two on him.
Just in case they, you know, Arthur Smith has done some really weird shit in Atlanta so far this season.
He's got like Parker Hessey playing over Kyle Pitts when they're playing with leads.
So some weird shit has been going on down in Atlanta.
So Tyler Algier is still the priority ad, but Damien Williams could, you know,
come back next week and lead this backfield and carry.
So if you're in some deeper leagues.
I'm going to talk about two guys now, Tom, because they're
on the same team and one has given the other life, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kenneth Pickett is going to be the starting quarterback. He ran for two touchdowns.
Look, I know he threw three picks and that needs to be accounted for. I'm not going to try
to praise him for that, but it looked like he finally gave this offensive life, a little
willingness to challenge down the field. Lo and behold, George Pickens comes out and has his first
career 100-yard receiving game. I think the number one waiver
pickup of the week. I mean, presuming Melvin Gordon isn't out there and in a competitive
league, he's not. George Pickens is probably the top waiver buyer pickup of the week.
Yeah, we'll start with Pickett. Yeah, he immediately, yeah, he wasn't afraid to throw it down
field. I think he was, you know, there was a Hail Mary in the mix, but he was averaging up over
13 yards in terms of like an A dot on his passes. So this offense has been the last two plus years
with Ben Rafflesberger and then Mitch to start the year,
afraid to throw the ball like more than eight or nine yards down the field.
So immediately he was getting the ball down field.
Did have the three interceptions,
but one was on a Hail Mary toss at the end of the game.
And the other was on a deep ball, a designed deep pass to chase Claypool,
who decided to jump away from the ball instead of going up vertically
against a smaller DB.
So hopefully he learned his lesson that you don't throw jump balls to chase Claypole in the future.
You throw him to George Pickens.
So in Pickens, we've been on this guy.
All summer long here, you know, Greg Cosell before the draft was telling us that he was his number one prospect at the receiver position coming into this year's draft.
And he hasn't had a lot of opportunities, but he sure has flash when he's been given him.
And he's starting to get, you know, he had an awesome catch, the Odell Beckham Light catch in week three.
And then got the targets in week four.
So he's probably going to stay more involved going forward here.
He was a guy that was rostered a lot.
He was by the end of the summer, he was about a 10th round pick, 9th, 10th round pick.
It's going about 100 to 120 picks into draft.
So now if an owner was, you know, a little pissed at it.
him and dropped them. He's been out there. You know, he's available in 61% of Yahoo League. So
certainly a guy you want to pick up because this offense, this passing game at least,
it will be trending upward here with a quarterback that's actually capable of making
quick decisions and throwing the ball down field. Let's talk about the quarterback position,
Tom. Kenny Pickett. Yeah, we got him. Two rushing touchdowns. He can move a little bit. Yeah,
that was the first time a quarterback has had two rushing touchdowns in his pro debut. So
Really? Yeah, that was something I saw in an AP News story, but I think that might be a little underrated part of Pickett's game that, you know, and we're always looking for little cheat codes in fantasy.
And you wouldn't think Kenny Pickett is much of a runner. But he does have that, yeah, I'm not telling you he's going to average 30 rushing yards a game, but he does have some sneaky, sneaky good legs. So I do think there's at least a little touch of rushing upside with Kenny Pickett.
any interest in Zach Wilson who obviously came out and started and again Tom if you listen to the to the market report podcast you know that I did not see the games this weekend for because I was at weddings but how did Zach Wilson look I mean you obviously watched that game is there any interest in him from a fantasy it's tough I didn't think he played particularly well for most of that game and he did the fourth quarter he was phenomenal in the fourth quarter but that you know the Steelers defense was also decimated at that point they had a couple of
guys, Minka Fitzpatrick and Witherspoon leave the game. And it was a pretty thin unit at that
point. But the point remains the same, you know, it was Wilson's first game. So you would expect
some rust early in the game. But there's no doubt he's clearly talented. He can run a little bit.
He's got a big arm. If I had to bet, I would say that, you know, he probably continues
to underwhelm for this season.
But he has the weapons.
He's got Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore.
Corey Davis is playing really well.
Tyler Conklin.
He has everything you want out of a receiving core.
The Chet's defense stinks.
We're seeing this in Detroit where if you have a crappy defense,
it can kind of elevate you to some fantasy production here.
Which is another guy, Jared Gough.
If he's out there, 52% on, you want to pick him up.
But, yeah, so I think he's worth a shot, especially if you're playing in a two QB league.
He's only 10% owned in Yahoo League.
So he's worth a shot.
Maybe we'll see some progress here over the next couple of weeks.
At least he has something to build off after that fourth quarter against the Steelers.
Looking elsewhere, Tom, is there anything else that really stands out to you on the waiver?
It looks like there's a handful of guys who are obvious pickups, but anybody on the deeper end that stands out to you?
or is this kind of just a week where you're putting your fab into the bigger guys out there?
You know, if we're looking for like QB streamers this week,
a picket and Wilson are more of like long-term pickups.
Teddy Bridgewater is going to be starting for Tua.
He played well in relief.
They play the Jets this week,
which we just highlighted that they're a defense that you want to pick on.
So he has,
and he'll be playing with Tyree Kill and Jalum Waddle.
So has some potential.
I don't think he's going to be,
he doesn't have the same upside as to it,
but playing in that Mike McDaniel offense with great weapons
and in a really good spot here against the Jets,
he could easily fill in if you're,
if you're just going right from Tua to Teddy Bridgewater.
And another guy is, you know,
James Winston's been banged up,
but he gets the Saints,
no, he gets the Seahawks defense this week.
If he's back this week,
kind of felt like the Saints were letting their key guys
heal up last week in that London game.
Michael Thomas sat out.
Alvin Kamara was a bit of a surprise inactive.
So I could see all three of them guys being potentially back this week.
And you want to pick on that Seahawks defense.
At the running back position, guys, the stash here, Rashad White.
It was a weird game.
A lot of passing.
I don't know if for sure he's going to be locked into a role here,
a big role behind Leonard Fournette.
But I thought it was at least interesting last week.
Todd Bulls said before the Chiefs game that we need to get on.
guys involved and they were seemingly giving White some some series in that game he he had a couple
catches in a second half drive and he they kept them in at the goal line and he got the got the
touchdown so certainly guy he's a stash like if Leonard four net goes down he has rb one upside and
he did have a bad fumble on that opening kickoff which basically really uh i don't want to say
it lost them the game but it really put the buccaneers behind the eight ball so they at least showed
some confidence in them and putting them back out there and giving them more work.
And one other guy from that game was Isaiah Pacheco.
Jerich McKinnon's been pretty mediocre with his work.
He's been splitting snaps with Clyde Edwards-Helair so far this season.
But the game script kind of worked in his favor.
Pacheco played really well with the snaps, though.
He gained over, I believe, over 60 yards in that game with 10 or 11 carries.
So maybe he's back on the radar here.
he's been dropped in a bunch of spots,
but if Clyde Edwards-Claher goes down,
I would assume that he kind of vaults into that lead runner spot.
And we're seeing, you know,
Clyde-Ed Edwards-Hillera is kind of this guy that,
how is he getting it done,
not getting a lot of carry,
not getting, you know, splitting snaps.
But if you're in that offensive environment,
playing with, you know, Patrick Mahomes and the rest of these guys,
you can put up some fantasy productions.
So he's certainly a guy you might want to stash.
One more player that we're talking about, Tom, I'm cutting it off because my brain is about to explode.
Okay.
I'm pretty dead serious about that.
Michael, we have to talk about Michael Gallup because Dak Prescott's coming back soon.
I know we mentioned him last week on the podcast as somebody who you probably can't put in a lineup just yet, but you want to see how he does.
Well, if you did put him in a lineup, he got you a touchdown on two catches, but he got you a touchdown.
He has got to be rostered in every league at this point.
He's available in nearly 60% of Yahoo.
think his running mate should be rostered too, especially in deeper leagues. No Brown has looked good
through the first war games. He's been getting it done up over 54 yards in every game. So he's a guy
in shallower formats. But yeah, this off. The question I have about Brown by the way, Tom, but not to cut you off,
but I did cut you off. But the question about Brown is like, does he have the same rapport with Prescott
as he does with Cooper Rush, his scout team buddy? Yeah, that's that's a question. We'll probably
find out over the next couple of weeks. But I think at the very least, if he's playing at a high
level. He's he's warranting a prominent position in this passing game. Jalen Tolbert,
there's nobody else pressing for for targets in this offense. Dalton Schultz will see if he
gets back to a more prominent role. He's been dealing with a knee injury and really crap the bed
last week in his return. So, but maybe No Brown kind of overtakes him for the number three spot.
Let me drop a couple more. Yeah, I just, we'll do real quick. Alec Pierce out there, 95% of
leagues. This guy's making plays.
week. They still, they're still insisting on playing Paris Campbell for some goddamn reason as the
number two wide receiver, but I think that's got to change at some point with this Colts offense
really struggling. And he's really making plays and he's a big body. He could, he could certainly
become a red zone target at some point. Josh Reynolds, if you're just need a guy this week,
Allmane Raw Brown and DJ chart were out of the line up last week. There's a chance that
water both of those guys misses again. They do have a buy in week.
six so they could be a little bit more conservative so you need a play this week josh reynolds
and at tight end it tight ends crap it really is but mo alley cox the colts have been using a heavy
rotation at the tight end good luck with yeah i'm just say he's it's he's kind of separated a
little bit over the last week or two he's running it's been incrementally more routes and uh and he
He blew up last week.
He scored the two touchdowns, had 85 yards.
So as I said earlier with Alec Pierce, they're looking for anything off offense right
now.
So Moe-A-Cawks has given you something.
Maybe that warrants more work going forward.
So I don't know if I'm ready to put him in a lineup, but maybe he's a guy if you're
been really struggling at tight end and you're looking for anything.
Maybe he's got to pick up and stash to see if he can string it together for another
week or two.
Well, T-bro, that'll do it for the WaverWire podcast.
again, the Waverwire article at FantasyPoints.com has way more guys than we are able to talk about on the podcast.
It's got to be close to 60 or 70 players.
Lower end guys, higher end guys, it mentions them all.
And by the way, I can tell you, Tom, that FantasyPoint.com is now 25% off.
Yes, it is.
Because we're 25% of the way through the season, ergo 25% off at FantasyPoints.com.
And if you use Code Broly 22, it can see an extra 10% off on the 25%.
Are you kidding me? It's almost free already. Yeah, what the hell's going on out here?
How we're going to pay the bills? I don't know. I really don't know. But hey, you got to go,
you got to check out the article at fantasy points.com. You got to check out all our articles at
fantasy points.com. It's also a streaming day. Streaming defenses, streaming quarterbacks and
tight ends will be up today. Tom, it's been great talking to you, my friend.
Go rest up, Joe. I hope you have a wonderful. What's that?
Go rest up. You've had a long weekend. It has been a long freaking week, man. I'm falling into
my normal routine this week, which I'm very glad about. I've got a rest, though.
