Together, we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer. Register today at pmcfwalk.ca. Ashton Gentie goes down with an injury today in practice. We're going to tell you all you need to know and prepare you for what to do in case we're without him.
Starting point is 00:00:37 And we're going to give you the top 10 fantasy takeaways from preseason week two. This is Fantasy Football Daily. All right. Today, Scott Barrett's out of town. He is on vacation again. Again, this guy's always, he's a jet setter. And so I took the opportunity to actually do the show tonight with somebody that I actually enjoy doing shows with. And that would be Derek Brown.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Mr. Derek Brown, how are you today, sir? I'm doing good, man. Yeah, Scott's texted me earlier this afternoon. I'm like, dude, where? This is like, where in the world is Carmen San Diego? I know for the way back she and like all the young kids out there that are not going to even know what I'm talking about. But go Google that.
Starting point is 00:01:23 It's worth it. And Scott is going to be texting his pictures for some tropical location, Brett. I don't know. No, he's back on the East Coast. visiting family and whatnot, but you know, whatever. You could have made him something. You could have said he's in a ruba. Like, I mean, everybody would have known it was made.
Starting point is 00:01:40 It was totally made up though because they take one look at Scott. They know that like he's not going to tropical destinations without SBF 200. Yeah, true. Although he lives in Austin. And Austin is pretty hot this time of year. Scott sent me temperature reading from his phone yesterday. It was 108 degrees in Austin. It was 108 today in Dallas, Fort Worth.
Starting point is 00:01:59 And it's supposed to be no lower than 170. over the next three days but you know we can get through a long weather conversation i could de real is here you you know what else is hot though football preseason week two takeaways those are a professional segue that is a professional segue there you go so let's let's start with the gentie news so he goes down in practice today apparently it was an awkward landing after a catch you know we've got various reports from certain medical guys i know jeff mueller fantasy points injury doctor doesn't have a lot of information but they're trying to extrapolate we have sources at the rate i don't want to tip our hand completely scott's telling me not to be super
Starting point is 00:02:39 worried about this but an injury still an injury and it's worth talking about and we also have seen the backup rookie mike washington junior and by the way i have to say i have to two our own horn derrick i don't think there were two guys higher on mike washington junior than you and i there wasn't it pre-draft. So, like, he's looked sharp in the preseason. What have you seen from him? Dude, he's looked fantastic this, I mean, this preseason. I mean, like watching both the games, really it's been an extrapolation of what we saw from him as a skill set as a player, really in college. The big playability, the blinding speed, we all know that he tested like an alien. By the way, Scott Barrett, I saw, I saw you, man. I see, if your ears are burning, I see your Mike Washington Jr.
Starting point is 00:03:21 hate tweet. I saw that out there in the ether. But, to counter Scott's hate tweet, I would like to also tell the masses that in his final season in college, Michael Washington Jr. was 30 30 yards of the contact per 10th, 17th and breakaway percentage. This preseason, dude, and I know it's only a 15 carry sample, Brett, 7.07 yards of the contact per attempt, not too bad, my friend, not too bad. The thing with Mike Washington Jr. and like, I don't want to get too deep into the weeds on the pre-draft profile. Yeah. Like, there were definitely holes in the profile. That's why there was day three.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Yep. And so like I never I never looked at the analytical profile Scott presented and said, yeah, you're for sure wrong about him. But it was a weaker running back class. And in a weaker running back class, I'm going to be inclined to just bet on the traits, right? And you see the size. I've been calling him discount Amari and Hampton.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Because the size speed. Actually, that's even disrespectful to him because he's way looser of an athlete than Hampton. Hampton is stiff as a board, right? And like, Washington can can move. you're seeing some of the highlights on the screen like the dude has some legit lateral quickness that i don't think hampton has but yeah i mean i think he's even looked a little bit more polished already same same the pastro the catching technique yeah the the vision the patience like because
Starting point is 00:04:38 that was my biggest critique him coming out it's like patience and vision was kind of meh he just relied on the size athleticism combo but he actually looks like a running back now no i i i like the prospect profile coming out like i know we can kind of talk about like the the the the basically his entire resume as a college player, but the final season is all I really care about because that's the guy who you are currently. That's who you are entering the NFL. And the size speed profile is there.
Starting point is 00:05:05 We already saw him hit like, what was it, a 50 plus yard run in preseason. I think he has underrated like three down ability because the pass catching is good. Like you can go on X right now and just go search his name. You're going to find like a laundry list of routes in one-on-ones in Mobile where he was winning in the receiving drills too, Brett. Yeah, I told the story, the anecdote I had for Mobile is like every year,
Starting point is 00:05:29 if there's a guy who really stands out in those drills, they try to do something to throw them off, right? So Washington was crushing all the linebackers in the past catching drills. So they were bringing safeties over. That was my anecdote from this year. It's like they literally were grabbing a safety from the other drills, bringing him over to try to cover Washington. and then he still beat a guy, beat a safety on a wheel route, like 50 yards downfield in the final one-on-one of day two.
Starting point is 00:05:56 So, yeah, the past catching upside is there. He's just a great athlete, too. And like, tight end and running back, athleticism matters just so much. You know, all the top tier players are elite athletes. Well, and the thing I want to highlight about him, so like, we're, again, as of recording this, we don't know with the ultimate news. So as you're watching this, listening to this, you might already have that news in hand as you're listening to this. But if Gentie is truly out for the season, I think Mike Washington Jr. becomes a top 20 running back. And people like, I put this take out on social media earlier. And like after the news came out about Genti and I'm like, and people are like, really? Are you serious? Like, come on, man.
Starting point is 00:06:33 And I'm like, really? Like, why is that crazy? Everybody's filing Ashton Gentie as an RV1 in fantasy without even thinking like twice about it. But his backup, who is a size speed specimen who has a three down skill set. He's underrated in the past. in the passing game. Like, I'm not telling you that he's going to get out there running angle routes and play out of the slot like Jentee can. Jinti's a way better receiver. But can he be competent in the passing game? Can you get him in advantageous spots where he's a checkdown option or like on wheel routes? He has the speed to if you ask him to go run up the freaking sideline and beat a linebacker, he can freaking do that. So yeah, if Jentie does miss the whole year, miss time and stuff like that, Washington is an automatic top 20 running back for me.
Starting point is 00:07:17 yeah that's that's a that's a definitely a call i don't think that's too crazy though Derek i think i don't either especially when you look at their current depth chart they have nobody behind they have dylan lobby as like a pass catching guy but like he's not seeing the field that i think though the worry would become and i know scott barrett's already kind of beating this drum is like they they're the first call for james connor i think it's pretty seems like everyone's assuming Connor Connor's playing for a different team come week one so the stuff about james connor we still haven't seen in practice. Does nobody, like I was thinking
Starting point is 00:07:49 James Connor was going to get traded to a lot of different teams. He is still yet to practice for the car. It's a good point. Throughout all of training camp. We don't even know if we're going to see him this year, Brett. And you have to pass a physical to be able to get traded. So that's a good point. Yeah. All right, let's move on. Let's hit the, let's hit the Brown situation.
Starting point is 00:08:05 We have, well, we're going to talk quarterbacks. Shador versus DeShon, but also just I want a quick note on this. KCC is getting superstar treatment already. Yes, he is, baby. You love to see. played a lot game one and game two they were like nah we're not we're not risking that you know so uh which is great to see but anyways it seems like scha dshaun watson i know they're going to
Starting point is 00:08:28 make an announcement this week but it seems like shoddur has beat out to sean watson for the job which is interesting because i thought in preseason week one to sean watson was far superior quarterback just in that one game week two though oh baby the tide's turned and you can make the argument who who got like in both games the play player who played with the better supporting cast ended up looking better. But I think week two Choudure was far better than week one to Sean. So, and I'm not there every day in camp. I don't see what's happening. But it seems like making the bet on the younger talent, um, that seems to have a good rapport with, with your young pass catchers is probably the smart, smart bet for Todd Munkin.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Oh, I absolutely agree. Like I, I always kind of put this as like, I thought Shadur was going to win this competition because I just think Watson is cooked at this point. And week one, week two of preseason. He looks stiff in the pocket. Everybody's like, oh, he's more athletic than Shradur Sanders. I'm like, based off of what? What are you seeing that like Deshawn Watson actually looks more athletic than Shradu Sanders? Maybe like entering the NFL and pre-injuries
Starting point is 00:09:32 Deshaun Watson, not this version, dude. Like I thought he played terribly. Deshaun Watson, that is in week two, dude. Like he was staring down first reads, wouldn't come off of stuff. He was, dude, he had a horrible throw on a choice route to, uh, Gage Laverdean. So just getting into the weeds real fast with that, he just looks risk-averse.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Like it's all first read stuff you saw like after that horrible throw in week two, Monkin was like, okay, let's get you like comfortable again, three-step and rip, three-step and rip for first reads because you look like you're playing skittish. But I mean, did you see anything different out of week two, Brett? No, that was it was a polar opposite experience from week one. And week one, it was like he was just running the offense. I noted on the show, actually, it's like, yeah, it looks like that's, for what it's worth, like Chador wasn't doing that last year.
Starting point is 00:10:24 He wasn't, he wouldn't just run the offense. He kind of refused to. He was, you know, this, all this creative playmaker stuff, holding the ball for 18 minutes, every snap. And then Deshawn last week just came out and was like, ball out, ball out. And it was like, yeah, didn't get any explosives off of it. But it's like, at least the ball's going out. It's getting distributed, not taking negative plays.
Starting point is 00:10:42 But then today or this weekend, it was. is rough, really rough. The interception he threw was, was god awful. Dude, he just stirred him down the whole freaking time. Like, they had a safety right there in coverage and a linebacker right next to him and it's like, what are you
Starting point is 00:10:59 looking at? Yeah. Like, what, legit, what are you looking at? I'm like, I know we're going to transition and kind of talk about Shigeru real quick, but like, I just, I don't see the decision making for Deshaun to consistently run this offense and the ball placement's not there. He looks like, he's, he's,
Starting point is 00:11:14 look he just moves like a damn robot these days Brett and yeah I'm I'm not saying shudur is perfect now in both he looked way better in week two I think there's a reason for that too and we'll kind of get into it here but like week one should door just always kind of looks like he's what he is forced to process things quickly and get the ball out he looks like he looks like he's a tick behind the play design now this kind of leads me into week two and like he looked really good I'm not going to take it into way from shedore but also he had clean pockets that he was working from. He was allowed to sit there and just kind of wait.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Like one of them, one of the plays that looked the best for him was, I think it was like a deep crosser. He was waiting for the player to clear the linebacker, the safety that was in coverage. And they hit him on, like right next to the sideline. And she d'ur looks really good, like ball placement. The arm talent looks really good on those throws.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Well, that's never been a question for him. No, exactly. It's when things are hurried up or he has to play in chaos, then things can kind of go awry, but still even Shudor, like what we're seeing out of him, still looks better into Sean Watson, dude. Yeah, and Shadour, I thought he, you know, Monkin did a really good job of giving him a steady diet of like, okay, we'll have like a quick game or screen throw to get that, you know, the ball out quickly, get that processing going.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Then they paired it a lot with a lot of, you know, play action, boot type stuff. And then it's like, once he built some trust, it's like, cool. Now let's give him a seven step rep, see if he can, you know, a read a coverage. The touchdown throw he had was off of a seven-step concept in the red zone and he got the ball out on time. It's like I feel like Monkin was giving him really good designs and kind of vanilla stuff to build the confidence in the trust. And then like once he built that trust, he kind of added in some of that seven-step stuff. So I was encouraged, you know, it's one game. It's a preseason game that, you know, most people will tell you doesn't matter. But I think
Starting point is 00:13:10 it matters to Todd Monkin. And I think he's going to name his starting quarterback shooter Sanders based on it. So it matters to somebody. I fully agree. Fully agree. I think Shigur is going to be named the starter. Two and five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters.

Starting point is 00:14:34 They need our help. Josh Berlin. Shoot first and inquire afterwards. Margaret Qualie. Okay, tough guy. And Guy Pearce. Arm up. The dog star.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Directed by Ridley Scott in theaters Friday. Get tickets now. All right, let's move on to Dejohn Sribbling, San Francisco 49th, December receiver. I spent Scott and I spent 15 minutes talking about him on the preseason week one recap. So, but he built on it. Derek, he built on it. And I think, you know, I'll give you my small piece on it. Then I want to hear your thoughts. It's just like, you don't see a lot of rookie receivers get the workload.
Starting point is 00:15:13 They're asking him to carry. like a lot of times you get drafted especially a day two or day three guy and it's like all right we're going to specialize you at one of the three positions you're going to play x or z or f and then you're going to really work on these routes and then that's it and then we'll add to it right no but it's a stripling they're like yeah you're playing x you're playing z you're playing f and then you're going to run the full route tree you're going to be involved in the design game oh and by the way you're also our best run blocking wide receivers so go do that too and he's just been awesome at all of it. So like I I'm legit wondering like if Mike Evans injury if he keeps
Starting point is 00:15:51 tweaking this hamstring there is tribling actually like in contention to be their wide receiver one this year. I'm not going to dismiss it because I think if you look at the rest of the skill sets on that roster Christian Kirk can't stay healthy. Debo Samuel is just an underneath manufactured touch guy and he's still very good at it. He's skinnier. He looks skinnier in the camp right now. okay Brett now if he gets hurt we know that you know things can kind of pile up for for debo very very quickly as far as the poundage but right now he's healthy he looks felt but i'm with you man like stribling was not a guy as a prospect i was super high on i looked at him as like a linear player and and that's one of the things that i think is so interesting about what we've
Starting point is 00:16:34 seen in preseason and honestly you could take this like as a whole or even week by week i mean you and I were texting after week one and I was like this looks like the Ricky Pierce all kind of diet of route tree in that it's a lot of short area stuff they had him run a return route and freaking week one and I'm like a couple of them yeah and I'm like dude I'm like this is not where his like his best like his skills are best deployed either I think it was them saying can you do this and testing the kid to see if he can win that way because that was one of the things going back to the prospect stuff for stripling where I was like he's a linear player he has a linear player he has
Starting point is 00:17:12 has explosiveness, but he's so much better if you get him moving on crossers. Get him just built up speed. And that's where you can see some of the yak. But to your point, they've run him in all different wide receiver positions. They've given him a diet of like the full route tree, even a week two, some of the best reps as he's had. And I know we, we share this as far as our affinity of what we like in prospects, his body control and ability to go up and snag balls outside of his frame. seen that at both games, Brett. And it's been on go routes. The one thing that I thought was really good to see in week two is they ran him on a double move. Now, was the acceleration amazing, like on the double move? Did he get a little bit TikTok? He could have been a more
Starting point is 00:17:57 efficient, sure. But did he, was he able to also like, he dropped the freaking touchdown that he would have had on the double move, but it still goes to the point of he got Tony Jefferson to bite on the double move, and he's looked good with all the different spots. Now, the Kyle Shanahan yak diet has not been there, like, so far. But again, I think that's more of usage and what they've asked out of him to this point. I'm not going to say, like, he's going to be an elite yak player. Well, they gave him a jet in week one.
Starting point is 00:18:31 They gave him a jet in week one. Yeah, and a couple shallows as well. So, yeah, I mean, my thing is like, I'm expecting, like, once we get into the NFL season, two is I'm expecting like not a heavy diet but some a few more screens and some drag routes like get him moving yeah well what's crazy dude is like and you're seeing the j j jzekiel recent tweet on the screen right now they came out and they were like all right let's see what you can do and get you out of the game like he got targeted on four of the first five pass plays of the game that's insane and then like six of the first eight like ridiculous ridiculous um
Starting point is 00:19:09 just like, hey, we're going to get you the ball, see what you can do. It was basically, I know you said it was like kind of the Ricky Pearson. I think it was the full Brandon Ayuk diet. Oh, when I, I, you had his peak. And then on top of that, they're like, oh, but also you got to go do Joanne Jennings stuff too. So it's like he's doing both. It's, it's pretty impressive. But I just look at this, this depth chart.
Starting point is 00:19:30 I'm like, Mike Evans has already banged up. Ricky Pearson is out for the year. Christian Kirk is, you know, still her. Debo Samuels, Debo Samuel. Like, I legit think. he's in contention. And you're, you're drafting him as wide receiver, or as a wide receiver for right now in, uh, fancy. So, um, I think he's a great, great buy. So. Yeah. Contingention upside for days, Brett, fully agree. Everybody needs to be drafting this dude
Starting point is 00:19:54 right now. Yes. Um, let's go, let's pivot to the, the, the killer on a panthers dudes. We got two we want to talk about, um, Ted McMillan and Jonathan Brooks. My only note on tech McMillan, he didn't play a lot. He hasn't played a lot. He hasn't played the a lot through two years, but he's played some. The biggest note for me is the slot use. Yes. We didn't compare notes. That's exactly where I'm going. Go ahead. Go ahead. Cook, baby. Well, just like, you know, it's a cheat code to put to put your number one receiver in the slot. And what you see, when you look at the most productive fantasy players in the league, almost all of them spend 30 to 35 percent or more of their time in the slot. Tech McMillan last
Starting point is 00:20:37 year was in rare company with guys like George Pickens and Nico Collins who literally don't play in the slot. I think he was like 88% of his routes run came from out wide, which is insane. Pickens and Nico are both in the 90s, but I digress. And then in the preseason so far, he's up at like 40 to 45% slot rate. It's like, again, it's small sample. It's like 23 routes or something. It's still notable though. Telling, dude. Yeah, he's already run more slot routes through two preseason games and he did in any two games combined last season. I thought, I think we're going to be hand holding here. And I was wondering if you were going to say it before I said it.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Does this not feel like Dave Canellas just went and watched all of the Drake London diet? And this is what we're getting. This really does feel like that, though. This feels like that Dave Canellis went to the back to the drawing board and he said, oh, man, they're doing some really smart stuff with Drake London. Yeah, we got a guy like that. Let's do some really smart stuff with Tet McMillman and put him on the Drake London diet, dude. And if that's the case, we're going to get some design looks.
Starting point is 00:21:43 They're just going to be like, okay, let's get you in the slot on a small nickel or a linebacker. And you just go win, dude. Yeah, just the free release into the secondary is just nice too. Ted's so good at breaking down zone as well. So it's like, yeah, I agree. The Drake London diet would be, would be freaking awesome for him. So, all right. well, so we're aligned on Tet.
Starting point is 00:22:06 What does this do for his like ADP fantasy wise? I don't know, but I think I've been a little skittish on Tet because of Bryce Young. Same. Yes, guy had three 200 yard passing games last year. But if he's, if Ted's going to get more easy button throws, maybe the market share like Bryce Young's market share doesn't have to go up that much. Or I'm sorry, his passing years don't have to go up that much as long as Ted McMillan's market share kind of goes up or stays relatively the same.
Starting point is 00:22:32 So I'm pretty I'm a little bit more comfortable with Ted at his ADP now. Yeah, I just worried about the passing rate. That's the only been my worries about Ted have not been Tet centric. It's straight up in Bryce Young and passing volume. That's my only worries about Ted. Well, speaking of passing volume, what about Jonathan Brooks? I mean, I'm encouraged. I'm encouraged, Brett.
Starting point is 00:22:55 We didn't see a lot of him. But when you're telling me in week two, he played 12 or 13 snaps of Bryce Young. he was the bell cow there and I know everything coming out of camp like has been they're going to treat him with kid gloves and stuff like that dude he's 21 months when we get to week one he is 21 months off the last ACL construction he is fully freaking healthy and it is such a small diet and you and I talk about this constantly like running backs are so behold and also to what the offensive line is allowing for them to do and especially I think that this is also true for a player like Jonathan Brooks.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Like he's not twitched up. He's not a guy that's going to sit here and make something happen like juke three guys in the backfield. He's not Kenneth Walker. Jonathan Brooks is a glider. More like Albert Camara. Yes. Slash.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Perfect. Perfect. My comp for him coming out was Melvin Gordon. And a guy that when you get him into the second level, and we saw that on a few different plays, there was one stretch zone play that I remember where he got the build-up speed. And you saw he looked exactly like Jonathan Brooks. that I saw in college. And I'm like, okay, I'm all in, dude.
Starting point is 00:24:04 I'm not worried about Chuba. I'm really in on Jonathan Brooks. Well, Chuba's not very good at football for one. He's one of the least efficient backs, you know, and he hasn't put together back to back good seasons yet, Chuba. It's like he skips. But on top of that, Brooks is a legit three down back. I think he's his best traits are his pass down stuff.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Like he's great and pro. And the past, the hands, the route running. He's great with the ball in his hands. a screen player. The vision's really, really excellent. So I, there's no reason for Chuba to be a thing for them if, if, you know, Brooks is completely healthy. So so I really like Brooks at ADP right now. Real fat. I love Brooks at ADP. I've wanted to be like, so I've been above consensus. Dude, I've had him at like RB 29 since January. And I just remain as consensus comes up, Brett, I just keep him a little bit above consensus. I'm like, all right, y'all like her to RB29?
Starting point is 00:25:00 I'm at RB 26, RB 27. I'm just going to keep above. But to zoom out a hundred foot, a hundred foot view here, tell me what do you think about if Carolina is using Tedro McMillan in the Drake London diet
Starting point is 00:25:14 and designing up easier targets for Bryce Young, we get Jonathan Brooks as a legit part of this passing game. Do we see a better season with more easy button throws and stuff like that for Bryce Young? And I don't want to derail us, but like we've kind of meshed both these things. things together. Shouldn't that help, Bryce Young? Yeah, it should. It should. Yeah, I think, you know, you think about it too. Think about what they've tried to do. They tried to draft
Starting point is 00:25:41 an Xavier Legate, who's supposed to be super dynamic with the ball in his hands. And he hasn't earned enough trust to get those targets. It's like, so I think they've wanted that role in the offense. And I do think with Tet now playing more in the slot, yeah, and Brooks being a legit pass down back. I absolutely it should give Bryce a lot more easy button throws but also they're not going to like the season they had last year it's a little fluky and they're going to have to I think scratch and claw a little bit more to have a shot to win that division and a pass rate has to come up probably so yeah I agree they can't just sit on leads and and lean on an easier schedule exactly all right let's pivot your guy this is one of this is actually this is actually this is
Starting point is 00:26:28 This is my guy too. This is my RB two in the 2024 draft. The Green Bay Packers Marshawn Lloyd. He has somehow stayed injury free long enough for us to have this conversation, which is a miracle in of itself. But we loved Lloyd as prospects. He destroyed everyone at the at the Senior Bowl. Motion Man, our producer was at the Senior Bowl that year actually. But man, he looks fantastic. And I, I don't know. I can't put into words how I am to see him on the field finally. But all I wrote down, the only note I want to throw out and then I'll let you cook is juice. That's it. Yes, baby. He looks now, now I will, I'm not going to derail us here, but I will say very quickly, whoever the heck is handling the hamstring issues for Christian Watson and Marshawn Lloyd, can we just shove Jordan Tyson into a FedEx box and send him immediately to that doctor?
Starting point is 00:27:22 Because he needs to go to it, man. Pretty sure they live in Germany. I think I know the guy. ticket. Buy him the ticket and let him go right now. It's not like he's playing football or anything. But Marshawn Lloyd, to your point, all of the stuff to get him right, he looks healthy. He looks physically right out there in the field. And again, another guy you and I were talking about earlier this week was like the vision is, he looks rusty to me. Now, some of the vision on his runs looks kind of wonky where he's missing cutback lanes. I think that can be, go ahead. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Obviously, they gave him no under center runs, though, really. It was all shotgun crap. That's fair. That's fair. As we're about to see one from under center, but. Well, yeah, but to your point, I think that the other part about it, he looked extremely, they had a few stretch zone runs and he looked so much more comfortable as far as like press, flow and using that explosiveness, Brett, that I'm like, do we see that integrated more,
Starting point is 00:28:17 especially like whether, I mean, Josh Jacobs is back in practice and stuff like that. But Lloyd, the other thing, dude, on that touchdown, that pretty little angle route that he ran to the touchdown. That's the other part. He's another past game weapon where he can get deployed and have a stand-blown role for the Packers offense. And Jacobs can still be out there. Like he can be the lightning to Jacobs Thunder.
Starting point is 00:28:40 And Lloyd can have this like seven to nine touch type of role. And then if Jacobs goes down, like, again, he played nine of 14 snaps with Jordan Love in week two. he would be their workhorse bell cow if anything happens to Jacob's suspension or honestly Jacobs is I mean last year he looked like a shell of himself Brett I think the volume is starting to take a toll on his body yeah and maybe potentially legal troubles as well you know fair that too we I mean there's still a looming suspension and we know how old Roger does with those things he takes out the darts he grabs the dartboard and he puts five seven eight three two up there and he says all right
Starting point is 00:29:19 where what kind of suspension do you want now and that's it and that's where we get our you know whatever suspension old roger just deems worthy yeah all right let's uh so we're both in on lloyd um i think he's gonna have a role this year that's that's uh relevant for fantasy for sure um two and five canadians will hear the words you have cancer that's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th joined thousand in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Together, we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer. Register today at pmcfwalk.ca.ca. Kia, we make things just for college life, like the Rosenmandel blackout curtains in gray. They say you can't put a price on sleep, but we did. For the low, low price of $49.99. Why are you in my room? Shh, go back to sleep.
Starting point is 00:30:31 You have a big exam tomorrow. Shop back to school at IKEA. Speaking of someone who is definitely more fantasy relevant than anyone thought when they drafted him, Malachi Fields in New York, Derek, my man got starter treatment. He did. He got starter treatment. He got bo- Wrapped, Brett. You got bubble wrap. That speaks volumes. One, I mean, we know neighbors is the is the one. There's no question about that. But he is coming back from a catastrophic injury. They're bubble wrapping him too, obviously. But they like Fields enough to say, hey, neighbors might be off to a slow start. We need you to be the guy. So they bubble wrapped him. Darius Slate and played the whole freaking game. Yep. You know, and that seems like who Fields would have to beat out for playing time with the ones. Well, he's already passed him on the dev chart, it looks like. So, but Fields has a prospect to me is the perfect compliment to Malik neighbors where neighbors is your
Starting point is 00:31:28 shifty Antonio Brown route them up type can also win at the catch point right but like eventually it will be an elite route runner and separator Malachi Fields is the like legit alpha X you know block his little tail off in the run game but also go up and make things easy on your quarterback as you're seeing on the screen right now the you know catches over the dbs He had some of the freakiest catches you'll ever see at a senior ball practice this year. He had one where I think he chased the ball. It felt like 60 yards down the field and completely laid out for it running full speed. Easy catch.
Starting point is 00:32:04 He's a fun talent, though. And I just love the size speed combo. He's a classic height weight speed guy. But it's cool to see him get bubble wrapped in week two of the preseason here. Yeah. And I have a lot of the same notes. Like he played X in the preseason. And I think that's the role he's going to play in the regular.
Starting point is 00:32:21 season. I think they're going to probably, and correct me if I'm wrong and how I'm projecting this Brett, but I think you're going to see Malachi play the X role. I think you're going to see neighbors kind of rotate between Z and slot, manufactured touches, like basically get the ball in his freaking hands. And then whoever we get opposite those guys, like two wide receiver sets, I think those are going to be your guys. And then we're probably going to see a smattering of like Darius Slate and Darno Mooney,
Starting point is 00:32:46 who missed this last week. He would think he was like the best man in his brother's wedding or something like that. That's why he didn't play in week two at the preseason. But with fields, I agree with everything he said. The one thing that I had questions about him as a prospect and the route tree that he was asked to in the role that he played in college was I was like, man, I just don't know if he's going to be. Well, I was like he had this like vertical, linear, heavy type of route tree where they asked him to stretch the field and he wasn't, he didn't run the full route tree in college. So my thing was how much can he be a target earner in the NFL? But I know that you saw a lot.
Starting point is 00:33:23 Unfortunately, I wasn't able, thank you, American Airlines. I wasn't able to make it to Mobile this year. But I know when you were in Mobile, we were texting back and forth and you were like, dude, Fields looks like a totally different beast down here because he's allowed and he's being asked to do more. I mean, like, can you elaborate on that a little bit? Like as far as like, what did you see in Mobile that gave you more hope than some of the collegiate tape?
Starting point is 00:33:44 Because I was a little bit lower on him based off of that tape. Yeah, just getting him a little bit more on the horizontal place. lane. So his entire route tree at Notre Dame was linear, vertical. I mean, like legit goes posts, back shoulders, corner deep corners and like deep pitches. Really nothing in the, you know, in breaking diet. And it like in Mobile, they immediately started, for one, they started moving them around. They put him at Z. They put him as the big slot. And he was running digs and deep crossers and out routes and looked really comfortable doing. it. And so I underrated his ability to kind of sink those hips and explode into brakes.
Starting point is 00:34:25 And so like, is he going to be amazing at that stuff early on in his career? Probably not. But the fact that he can do it a little bit means he's not just like a sacrificial X. Like he, especially with neighbors on the field, he'll never, that fields will never see a double team in his life with neighbors on the field. Agreed. So it's like life is pretty easy for him and he should be able to capitalize. So I think this is super fantasy relevant, especially in an offense where, you know, at least that fantasy points, we love. Jackson Dart. We think Jackson Darts a great fantasy asset.
Starting point is 00:34:55 We love Malik neighbors. We love Camp Scataboo. Fields just helps all those guys. And I think this offense is kind of taking shape. Isaiah likely, some like him, I don't. But, you know, the offense is kind of taking shape and you're kind of seeing the potential if they don't get Matt Nagyed. Yeah. Different conversation for a different day. Yeah, I was just to say, we could go on at a whole different show about being
Starting point is 00:35:17 Matt Nagy, but you know, I digress. Conversation for another day. let's go back to the Raiders for a sec i wanted to talk fernando mendoza um i've shared my thoughts extensively on this show already why don't you tell us what you thought about Fernando i thought he looked good i definitely thought that he looked very much like a rookie like i think they need to start cut cousins week one man and i know there's like two different camps about like especially because of practice reps and things like that and live game reps of like learning and stuff now i will say the watching him behind a backup offensive line against the Houston Texans is not coloring
Starting point is 00:35:54 you know too much of the picture for me because I'm very well aware of like the reasons of why that looked the way it did in week two but I just the thing that that's holding me back a little bit about Fernando is I feel like he's still adjusting and very much so again I want to be very like diligent about how I'm laying this out he's played two NFL preseason games but I feel like the version of Fernando that we're seeing right now is somebody that's still working it out of. What can I get away with? And I'm processing a real time the massive jump in spacing and speed of the NFL level. Because the thing about it, like what I've seen through two weeks of preseason, Brett,
Starting point is 00:36:38 and I'm curious, like, if this is your takeaway or where you sit on this was for a guy that I felt like, as he moved through the collegiate season last year, we saw him be more. more out of structure playmaking, aggressive. Like, I felt like his trigger has been not a little bit slow, but he's been a little bit hesitant at times where he'll see it and you're like, rip the ball, rip it. And he's like, he'll pat it, he'll wait, he'll get dancey. And it's not consistent.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Now, to that point, I felt like he was better in week two and that goes away. But that is something that I'm seeing out of him where it's like, I feel like he's like in real time adjusting. to the speed of the NFL game and the spacing and tighter windows. But I mean, what did you see out of him so far this preseason? Yeah, I think it's a fair. I mean, I've been high on both performances. I know the interception scared a lot of people that he had.
Starting point is 00:37:30 I'm not worried about that. Late over the middle to a checkdown. But ultimately, like, I think you're right, there is a spacing difference. In college, you have the wide hashes, right? And so their whole playbook at Indiana was basically designed to kind of exploit that. They were attacking outside of the wide, of the far side of the field. We're in the pro game, everyone's faster and it's more condensed space.
Starting point is 00:37:52 So I do think you're seeing him. There are certain past concepts where he is taking a extra beat to kind of feel things out. But I do think like he still looks really good in rhythm. When he's, you can tell when he's feeling it. He looks confident. I think the ball looks awesome. Like the ball off his hand looks great. Not really worried about that.
Starting point is 00:38:13 The pocket navigation looks relatively fine. but I want to take this conversation kind of a different angle. What are the Raiders goals this year, do you think? Like, if you were running the Raiders, like it's a new regime, it's year one of a new regime. They've had basically a draft and a half
Starting point is 00:38:32 to kind of turn this thing around. A lot of influx on the roster. What is the realistic goal for the Raiders this year? You're in evaluation mode. Who on this roster, can be short and long-term pieces for us. And that's another reason why I don't think you put Mendoza definitively out there in week one.
Starting point is 00:38:56 They have to, like, for me, if, again, if you're asking me if I'm running the Raiders, what do I do? I start Kirk Cousins week one and I say, is this a situation to where we can at least be functional based off of the run game, the offensive line, the receivers that we have and that we don't have? Can we be functional to the point? where we can at least get a fair assessment about Mendoza,
Starting point is 00:39:20 or is this situation so broken this year, despite everything we tried to do this offseason, is it still so broken that if we air drop Fernando Mendoza into the situation, is it so bad this is going to hurt his learning curve instead of help it based off of learning on the job? But again, that's if I'm running the Raiders. Now, Brett, you tell me, did I do a bad job of running the Raiders? No, that's perfectly, it's exactly what I wanted you to say.
Starting point is 00:39:49 Because my big question is, why are we putting Fernando on the field without Tyler Linderbaum, without Brock Bowers? Why do you put him out there? Without Trey Tucker? Yes. Thank you. Why do that? I don't understand that.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Yeah. I don't get that. You know your offensive line is crap. Okay. So we get a good assessment of Fernando. Let's put him up against the Texans backups with our garbage backup offensive. line. This will work out well, Brett. Yeah, exactly. So that's kind of where I'm at. I would protect the first overall pick a little bit better than they have. Thankfully, it sounds like
Starting point is 00:40:26 Kurt Cousins is fully intending on being the meat shield for him for several weeks. And that should be the case. But if you are going to put the man on the field, please, God, put the best players on the field with him. And it sounds unfair because we expect rookie quarterbacks to step in and play with second and third stringers all the time. I don't care. They're not the first overall pick in the draft on a team that's rebuilding and planning for the future. All right. I fully agree. End rant. Antonio Williams, Washington commanders wide receiver. Yeah, looked good against the Lions in limited play. But also the training camp videos I see of him constantly, he's just snapping dudes off route after route. You're the one who put him
Starting point is 00:41:06 on the list, though, so tell me what's up. So I was very curious. I was very, so, okay, if you look at his preseason usage. He played 58.3% out wide, but then four of his six targets came from the slot. So I think the preseason like first look of usage numbers and a lot of people could take away from this of, oh, Antonio Williams can be the outside wide receiver. I think that's false. I think if he gets on the field, he's going to be a 50-50 guy. Or he's going to get a lot of usage from the slot in some perimeter usage, not to say that he can't win from the perimeter. Because I think he can do that. His best year of tape at Clemson was outside. Yeah, I did the, the most impressive rep that I was like, I was sitting in my desk earlier today and I was like, oh, he had a nice grab outside of his frame on like it was a deep out or a deep over.
Starting point is 00:41:57 I'm forgetting right now from the slot. And you saw, again, we go back to the body control. Maybe it translates. Whenever you're able to do that and stuff. And the thing is, what are the commanders doing with their wide receiver usage is like, like, they're coaching. staff, Adam Peters. They draft all of these guys. And then they're like, yeah, but we're not going to play any of them. Luke McCaffrey, not going to play him. Jacoby Lane, not going to play him. Ben, Senate, not going to play him. Antonio Williams wasn't even getting reps with the ones until like a week ago. So like, I also have to ask, Brett, what the hell are we doing here? Well, seriously. I have a bit of, you listen to my show with Joe Marino first read. It's not like
Starting point is 00:42:38 I've been a fan and endorsed a lot of this roster. No, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, don't understand what the hell they're doing. There's a chance they just don't know either. It's not that they don't know how to evaluate talent. I don't know if they know how to develop talent because they've drafted a lot of guys I like. I liked Luke McCaffrey. I like Ben Sinat. I like Antonio Williams.
Starting point is 00:42:59 There's redeeming qualities about Jacori Kroski Merritt as well. Yet we can't seemingly develop these guys. I mean, it does seem like they're eventually giving into Antonio Williams now. But yeah. I hope he gets used. I hope he's the starting slot receiver like opposite Terry and Diggs and stuff like that. He has the talent. He can do that.
Starting point is 00:43:19 That'd be fun. And it would add another element to because Terry's not a guy you're going to give screens and kind of manufactured stuff. And he's not going to give you a lot of yak. Same thing with Diggs. You know what that's funny. He's got some juice. He could do that.
Starting point is 00:43:32 You know what that's funny? That's all Terry did in college. I know. But yeah. So I want to believe, Brett, but I feel like, I've been commanded enough to where I'm kind of hesitant, okay? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:46 The other thing with Williams, I have to say, he picked 14, which one of my kind of like loose comps for him was Amon Rae St. Brown. I thought he had a lot of that to his game. And so he's wearing 14. He's relatively the same complexion as Amon Rao. They like to kind of look the same for being honest.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Same build, right? 511-ish, 190, 195. They got some muskles, you know? Anyways. Let's move on. I'm not going to follow you down that road. I know what you're baiting me to follow you down that road. I will watch you as you tread down the road, though.
Starting point is 00:44:17 I'll just pivot. I'll just move on. Two and five Canadians will hear the words you have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support. of life-saving research. Together, we can carry the fire
Starting point is 00:44:43 and help create a world free from the fear of cancer. Register today at pmcf walk.ca.ca. Kyle Williams and in some regards, Kayshan Booty, but Kyle Williams is playing good in the preseason. He is annihilated
Starting point is 00:44:59 both games. In fact, he had a long touchdown call back even. His numbers would look even more ridiculous, but he looks really good, especially specifically against man coverage when lined up on the outside. He's looked really good, right? And then we already have a log jam where like it seems like Pop Douglas.
Starting point is 00:45:19 When they go through receivers, Pop Douglas is playing a lot in the slot. So you've got Romeo Dubs. You got Mack Hollins and you've got A.J. Brown. Where does Kyle Williams play? Where does Kishon Booty play? But more, I think Williams ascension here could mean a Kashon booty trade. Team building wise, I'm not sure I love that because booty is like very cheap, cost controlled receiver at a very important position.
Starting point is 00:45:41 But if you can get a day two pick for him, you feel like you got to do it, right? I think you have to do it because I'm pulling it up right now live. I want to say that after this year, he's a free agent. Kishon is, yeah, he's a free agent after this year. So if I'm like, if I'm the Patriots, you trade him.
Starting point is 00:45:59 You trade him for like, if you can get a round four pick, you're probably not getting that. But like, I mean, even like, I mean, Brett, would you do it for like a, pick swap in the round four like i it feels kind of it feels kind of generous like he probably goes for much cheaper than that i feel like you might be underselling what his value is going to be i could be i could be and and it's hard with the receivers like this that are especially like in this kind of like because booty is like i think he's got a better he's a better route runner than what i've seen
Starting point is 00:46:29 than what we've seen in the NFL and stuff i think that he's been mostly like a field stretcher for new england and stuff and the role that he's played but i think there could be more to chew on there as an NFL player. But to your point, Kyle Williams looked freaking awesome in preseason, dude. He's got a 20.4A dot. They had him, dude, I felt so bad for Jonathan Edwards, for the Colts. That poor corner. Like, Kyle Williams was absolutely putting him in a damn blender, dude.
Starting point is 00:46:54 Like, he won. So, like, there was such a good rep in week one of the preseason man against Jonathan Edwards. He won against inside leverage, got a nice, like, solid end breaker, easy red zone fade. Like he was, he should have had another touchdown too if Tommy DeVito wasn't late and bad ball placement, man. Like underthrown go ball where he stacked the corner could have been another like touchdown week two. He, uh, against, uh, Keeley Ringo, Ambry Thomas. The only thing I'll say in week two where it gave me a little bit of like pause of like, okay, how well can he win versus like, because I did see a lot of the reps like man press and stuff like. And Brie Thomas had felt like he got his hands on him, could slow him down.
Starting point is 00:47:40 But I think some of that probably would have been called like a DPI and a real game without grabby. He freaking got. There was a lot of Terry and Arnold to a few of those reps there, Brett. But Kyle Williams looks good enough. If I was the Patriots, I would be shipping booty out of town, man. If I could get a round four pick for him, I would say bye-bye. Kyle Williams is our field stretcher with maybe some more gas, man. So Dontavian Wicks was traded this offseason for a fifth and six-round pick.
Starting point is 00:48:06 And Booty's been more productive than him, so. Fair. So like maybe a fourth? Yeah, I think a fourth would be good. And I think if you get the right team that's desperate enough, you might, might get a late third out of it. So the Raiders, got it. Yeah, there you go.
Starting point is 00:48:22 All right, a couple of, sorry, a pair of rookie wide receivers, Kevin Coleman, Jr. and Ted Hurst. Kevin Coleman, Jr. with the Miami Dolphins, Ted Hurst over with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Yeah, I know you're a Ted Hurst guy. I'm going to let you wrap about him in a second. The Kevin Coleman thing is definitely fantasy relevant because we're just dying for a Dolphins receiver to establish himself.
Starting point is 00:48:46 The only problem is like Malik Washington is probably the most established receiver on the roster. And Kevin Coleman's got to compete with him. Like of all the spots, he's got to compete for. He's got to compete with the one guy who kind of has some some gas, I guess. So that said, it's promising to see. I predicted early on in the offseason after the draft that he would eventually be their starting slot receiver this year. Not next year, this year. So there's a chance by the end of the year, Derek.
Starting point is 00:49:15 They have three rookies starting at wide receiver with Chris Bell, Caleb Douglas, and Kevin Coleman, Jr. I think that's the best three wide receivers on this roster. I'm full agreement, man. Like I said this, I think right after the draft, I was like Kevin Coleman Jr. will be starting for the Miami Dolphins by the end of the year. I love his game, man. Like, I think he's Wondell Robinson, basically 2.0, and not the early career, Wondell.
Starting point is 00:49:41 I want to be very, like, particular about that. Later career, Wondell, last year at the Giants, where you saw, because, dude, we saw it in second week of the preseason. There is verticality to his game. He got up the field on a slot fade. He could have had another big play, too, but Cam Miller can't get the damn ball out on time, dude. And poor ball plays.
Starting point is 00:49:59 There's a punch thrown behind him. Dude, he could have had a monster stat line if he got like decent targets in week two of the preseason he was getting open at nauseam and the thing that i think translate for kevin colman junior is his physicality man he plays bigger than his freaking size he runs like a running back in the open field he can create yak he can't offer verticality now is he a slot predominant player absolutely but that doesn't mean that he can't be freaking good and i think that that slot archetype is the only reason that he didn't test like a demon that he fell to round six. I had like a round four grade on him. I'm absolutely with you.
Starting point is 00:50:38 He will be a starter by the end of this season. So I'm totally with you on Kevin Coleman, Jr., man. Love him as a player. And just on Ted Hurst, he didn't get much playing time in week two. He did play all snap, eight snaps with Baker Mayfield on the field. But I was so encouraged what we saw in his week one usage. Now, some people could say, oh, got six targets on 15 routes didn't do a ton. But again, he was another victim of poor quarterback play in the preseason. He should have had a touchdown that was called back. The route tree that they asked Ted Hearst, it wasn't, and dude, I hate this term. And I hate that the fantasy community has made this term a thing, the sacrificial X. Yeah, me too. Like, I absolutely hate it. Just say,
Starting point is 00:51:25 okay, field stretcher or the guy that's running downfield on sailing dagger, fine. Like, let's just it what it is of what you're actually talking about, the guy that's running clear outs for everybody else getting volume. That doesn't necessarily always mean the freaking ex position. And so like with Ted Hurst, he played the X in preseason. But again, going back to this, you saw a lot of slants out routes underneath intermediate route tree. And he looked good doing it, man. He had a nice split release on a slant versus inside leverage where I was like, uh, cook Teddy. Cook him. Cook him, Teddy. I love the kid.
Starting point is 00:52:02 I think he's going to be a starter over Jalen McMillan, who hasn't Tampa showed us, Fred, over the last two years? Everybody's like, oh, we love Jailen McMillan. I was like, Tampa Bay doesn't seem to love him. They keep drafting wide receivers to go take his job, dude. Yeah. I like that you said the X receiver thing,
Starting point is 00:52:18 because it's convinced people that playing X receiver is bad for fantasy. But let me, let me try this. We tracked us at Fantasy Points Data. And by the way, if you've never used the Fantasy Points Data Suite, please go to data. dot fantasy points.com. We also have the next edition of that coming very soon. Which I hear looks really good, Brett. I'm sure you haven't seen it. Anyways, we we track this stuff. Let me just read you the players who lead the NFL and routes run from
Starting point is 00:52:45 the ex position. We have George Pickens, Tetero McMillan, Jamar Chase, Nico Collins, Coralett Sutton, Jameson Williams, T. Higgins, Justin Jefferson, J.S.N. A. A. Davante Adams. I mean, other than like, sacrificial, Brett. The only guys are missing from that list is like Puka and Amunra. And they still run, you know, they're at the X like 50% of the time. So whatever. Sacrificial though, Brett. It's all sacrificial.
Starting point is 00:53:13 They don't matter in fantasy, Brett. So I've been told. Exactly. All right. Let's round this baby out with. And I have a bonus, a bonus thing for you after we're done, not on the show sheet. But Terrence Ferguson. Terrence Ferguson
Starting point is 00:53:29 Nate Atkins, one of the beatwriters, actually friend of, I shouldn't say friend of mine, acquaintance of mine. I knew him personally in his days. He was a beat reporter for the Detroit Lions. I was also media credential back then, back in those days. So I know Nate kind of well.
Starting point is 00:53:47 We still keep in touch in the DM sometimes. But he reported that Terrence Ferguson, he did an interview with him actually. Terrence Ferguson is training at the, the X, the Z, the F, the Y. He's playing all the positions. And this coincides with an early report we got out of the camp that Ferguson was basically the team's wide receiver three. And what's even crazier is I asked Scott Baird on our, we recorded a show Friday and I asked him, if the Rams just announced Terrence Ferguson as a wide receiver, how would that affect his ADP?
Starting point is 00:54:24 And I think you're kind of seeing it. The hype is really starting to ramp up. Scott already has the man, tight end 15, which is way above market, way above market. And got to remember, there's other good, or I should say, accomplished tight ends on the roster with Tyler Higbee and Cole. I thought Colby Parkinson had a fantastic season last year. So the fact that Ferguson is getting this much steam on a team that led the NFL in 13 personnel usage last year that's going to dabble in 12, it is really crazy. It doesn't shock me that they're finding ways to use this man. And it could be another Sean McVeigh special where every year he adds a wrinkle to the playbook that just destroys the league.
Starting point is 00:55:02 Dude, yeah, I'm in real time. I'm bumping my T-Ferg rank up because so many things that you just outlined there. And the thing that I also want to tell everybody at home is it's never a bad idea to invest in hyper-athletic just tight-ins. all it is the most correlated position in all of fantasy to athleticism. You do not see any Schmo Tidens that run a 4-7, 4-8 as top five elite fantasy tight-ins, top seven, top 10 guys, it just does not happen. So whether we want to invest in Sean McVey, we want to invest in this offensive ecosystem that's probably a top 5-10
Starting point is 00:55:45 scoring offense yet again. Go ahead, Brett. There's only two, just to continue your point, There's only two tight ends in NFL history to have over, I believe it's 800 receiving yards that didn't test as elite athletes. Do you know the two? I know one of the two. One of them is Kyle Rudolph, is it not? No, Rudolph did test as an elite athlete actually. Oh, did he? Low end of elite.
Starting point is 00:56:07 Zach Ertz. Okay. And Jordan Reed, and when Jordan Reed tested, he had a torn hamstring. I was like he was hurt, though, too. Right. But point being is like he probably was an elite athlete even. And there's only two ever. That's it. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:56:22 End of list, man. And so all the stuff with Terrence Ferguson, like, is it scary that this is, he is, he is saddled with a lot of really talented players next to him in Tyler Higby, Colby Parkinson, sure. It is. But not if they make him a receiver, though. No, you're right. And to that point, I mean, we go back to rookie year usage. He played 49.8% out of the slot.
Starting point is 00:56:47 He also was 22.2% out. wide. So basically this dude was never in line and he had a freaking 17.9 a dot for it. So like they were using him as the shot guy. Like yeah, he was the same guy. He was the shot guy. He was a shot play guy. So it's like if yeah, they're going to sit here and give him more of the full route tree and you know, as we like to talk about a ton can make him more of like in with being the shot guy also the dump and run tight in and just like let his athleticism play up. Hell yes, I'm in. All right.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Now that that's over with, I can ask you the question. I've actually brought you on the show to ask you. Oh, dear. And I wanted to start the show with this, but I know Trey, Motion Man, the producer would have killed me. I also know the listeners probably would have killed me. So if you're done with the conversation, you guys can tune out. I got to hear Derek's answer on this question, though. I can't have you on my show and not ask you what the best new metal.
Starting point is 00:57:49 release of the year is. Oh, you beautiful, beautiful man, you. Oh, gosh. Um, okay, I'm in between a few different things. Now, I will say right now, um, I am pining, uh, as we're recording this, Bairtoot's new album is coming out this week. That has been on my to-do list for, or at least, like, going to be like up there with top albums of the year right now. But I will say outside of that, the best metal release of the year, I'm in between motionless and white and when president drops their new album. You can't put an album out that's not all yet. Fine, fine, fine.
Starting point is 00:58:34 All right. Then I will go, I'll go with motionless and white, dude. It's a great answer. Bro, their new album is so freaking sick. There's so many good lyrics and especially in the world, the social media world that we live in, there's so much good lyrical content two songs like automatically popped in my mind one playing god which has one of the best features of any with corey taylor for anybody that doesn't know stone sour slip knot is on that song it is one of the most savage i did i buried the lead there for
Starting point is 00:59:07 i did i buried the lead i buried the lead okay but that song is savage so many pinch harmonics and it's so freaking nasty that i love it and then uh another If you want to listen to only two songs off this album, it's playing God and then it's log in, crash out. And it talks about all the lyrical content is about the social media world and basically like, if this is where the world is going, like I think one of his lines is, uh, if this is where life is going, then I'd rather eff and die. It is such a savage album. I love it so much, Brett.
Starting point is 00:59:40 And I love you for giving me this question. Yes. All right, I'm going to give you my answer too because I know you want to hear it. Oh, I do. I do. Above below. Back in February, came out with a new album called. I guess it was nowhere. Not only do I think it's the best album of the year. It's probably the best album since Sleep Token release,
Starting point is 00:59:57 Take Me Back to Eden. Damn, that's a take. That is a take. That's one hell of a take, my friend. But I know I'm a little bit more into the math rock than you are, the math metal. And it's just, it's a little proggy, but it's awesome. You know, if I had to go runner up,
Starting point is 01:00:13 I'd go periphery, a pale white dot. So, both, again, Prague metal. Yeah, and not part of this conversation, but because of both of the last two bains that, I think for my birthday this year, I'm probably just going to give a birthday present to myself and buy me a new seven string. So, you know, there's that. I almost sent you a video of me riffing a seven string yesterday. Oh, you need to.
Starting point is 01:00:37 You need to. I'll send you a few videos of me riffing the old six string double cutaway right here behind my right shoulder. Let's go. All right. Well, we got to get out here. Thanks for the metal discussion, Derek. Also, thank you for coming on the show. Tell people where they can find your work.
