Fantasy football, week six, waiver wire ads and deep sleepers for you to add to turbocharge your fantasy football rosters. Pretty uneventful week injury-wise, guys. Last week we were sort of in deep, deep depression over Malik neighbors and several other players. This week we do have one big notable injury, and we don't know the extent of this.
Starting point is 00:01:02 We are recording this on Monday morning, and the latest news is Elmary in Hampton is going to be going over some further testing. He was in a walking boot, didn't complete the game, left the game early. If Omari and Hampton is out, should fantasy managers be adding Hassan Haskins or Kamani Vidal? Let's start with you, Tom. Yeah, I prefer Hassan Haskins. I think he was the backup going into that game and he was playing a little bit ahead of Kamani Vidal, who was a practice squad guy, got signed to the 53 man roster the last couple of weeks and was kind of used in a pinch. And then the game kind of got out of hand late. They were down multiple scores. And then that's when we really saw Vidal start to get his reps. So we don't know how long this injury is going to last. But this is
Starting point is 00:01:55 an injury that it could be a couple weeks, but we know they're going down to Miami this week. Could be a positive game script. I think that's going to work towards Haskins's favor this week. So that would be my little lean here. But Vidal obviously did get some juice last summer. A lot of people talked him up, but has never really lived up to it. So I would prefer Haskins if I'm looking for the O'Mary and Hampton fill in for the next couple of weeks. Joe, you agree with that one? Yeah, I agree with that.
Starting point is 00:02:30 I don't know if it might end up being kind of like a Michael Carter Demercado situation here you're trying to pick the best of a bad option. Actually worked out decently if you used Michael Carter this past week. But nonetheless, Hassan Haskins, yeah, he was the guy who was on the roster. That's the guy I would prefer here. I wouldn't anticipate this being much more than a one or two week fill in for you. And I would say temper expectations because a large part of what O'Marion Hampton did before he went down in that game against the commanders was in the passing game.
Starting point is 00:03:01 And they were designing, they were designing targets to get him into space, Theo, like, So they knew that that offensive line wasn't opening the holes that they would like. And I think that's going to temper the success on the ground of a Hassan Haskins or Kamani Fidel. So I would venture to guess that, like, you might end up needing a touchdown for this to really come through. I do worry that we also see somebody added here. They're really thin. Obviously, Naugie Harris goes down early in the season with the Achilles injury. Now their first round pick is out.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Maybe we get like a Gus Edwards or somebody else. signed to this roster. And I just don't know if one of these guys is going to emerge them for the other one. It could be a little bit of an ugly kind of committee like we've seen in like Washington the last couple of weeks with with three running backs being involved. Maybe we see something similar here in Los Angeles. But I give Haskins the edge just because he has been on this roster for the entire, the entire season.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Yeah, I'm completely on the Haskins train here. And I think, like, Joe, you mention it. Michael Carter, Kenneth Gainwell, consecutive weeks where maybe fantasy managers sort of brush these guys aside a little bit because of their reputation. But these guys are not long-term answers as starting running backs. But Hassan Haskins has the familiarity with this system, played for Harbaugh at Michigan. I think it would be Hassan Haskins, at least in the majority of the touches. And if he has a week or two, there's a little bit of viability there.
Starting point is 00:04:34 So I do think on a week where there's not a lot of options, Haskins does become interesting. And if you're an O'Mary in Hampton fantasy manager, I mean, Joe, you sort of nailed it. There's 17 receptions the last three weeks, really, really trending up with his scoring. You hope this is a really short-term one, but probably the easiest option for you to add on the wire
Starting point is 00:04:55 is just Haskins and go from there. I think Kamani Vidal has sort of become sort of a meme because a lot of people were into him last year. it's not going to happen. Haskins was ahead of them. We are all on Hassan Haskins. Let you mention Michael Carter. Joe, your thoughts on Carter, not great yards per carry, but the volume was good.
Starting point is 00:05:15 And the past catching opportunities, he's still going to be floating out there in a couple of leagues. Your interest level. And also, I think maybe burying the lead here, Mari Di Mercado might be N. L. Mercado after this one, because Jonathan Gannon was lighting into him after. yet another. Theo, I have no idea how players keep doing this. I just don't get it. It, all right, it doesn't look any less cool if you drop the ball halfway into the end zone, right? Like, just hold on to it. But Michael Carter is going to be, I think, the guy that they feel like they trust here. I know Bam Knight got a touchdown. Hooray for that. But I think Carter acquitted himself pretty well.
Starting point is 00:05:57 He should be the lead back for as long as Trey Benson's out. Yeah, I was surprised that he actually. Michael Carter, that is, led them in route share yesterday. Our fantasy points data has them at 35% of the routes. DeMercato was at 24%. So they were leaning into Michael Carter quite a bit, and he obviously caught a few passes and helped out his Fantasy Day that way.
Starting point is 00:06:20 But we'd love to see Bam Knight kind of taken out of this situation, or one of these backs, maybe it's Demercato, to make this a two-man backfield. But it's not the ideal situation. with three backs in the mix. But I think Carter for the next, you know, the next, you know, four to six weeks while Benson is out of the lineup,
Starting point is 00:06:40 Carter could be, you know, a mid to low end RB2 for you. And if he's going to, you know, maybe see a little bit of a bump in usage because of DeMarcato's mistake or, you know, his issue last week there, I think, you know, Carter's going to see maybe a little bit of a bump
Starting point is 00:06:59 in work moving forward. So he's worth it. he was the guy most people reached for dea mercado off the waiver wire last week but Carter looks like the better player here for the next month yeah 23 touches last week and uh yeah joe you mentioned it and and people might say whatever coach got angry we've never seen jonathan ganon that angry on a sideline uh demercato it's going to be like an adenai mitchell situation you're going to see next week definitely definitely punished i wouldn't be surprised if he's the third back and it's bam night behind carter but carter would
Starting point is 00:07:33 definitely be if you have the chance to add the Chargers replacement or go with Carter, it's easily, easily Carter. Let's also mention we're recording this before Monday night football. I think we'd all agree that regardless of what happens on Monday night football, the Brashard Smith Ascension is going to happen at some point. Might not happen tonight, but he's another player that you really want to stash. We talked about him at length last week. Let's talk about Isaiah Davis, guys, because I'll throw out a scenario to you. Braylon Allen is now on the injured reserve. The Jets are in a free fall. This is an ugly situation. They're 0 and 5. We need to start talking about the possibility that Bruce Hall, who has not been assigned to a contract extension, gets moved to a contender.
Starting point is 00:08:19 And I think if Isaiah Davis had the backfield to himself, he'd be really fantasy friendly. Start out with you, Tom. Yeah, Braylon Allen's going to be out for the next three months it looks like. And we may not see him the rest of the year. Brees Hall. He's had some injury issues in the past, too, even if they don't move on from him. But now they are sitting at O and 5. So they may look to try to get some assets. And Brees Hall is one of the better ones that they have on the roster. And we know that there are some injuries around the league at the running back position. So he would have some suitors. He's a younger player and certainly explosive. And I'm sure people might look at that situation, maybe like a Sequin Barkley situation,
Starting point is 00:09:00 where if we get a good player out of that disaster up in New York, maybe his career could really take off. So that would elevate Davis into a massive role here the rest of the way. And he played a lot yesterday on Sunday. As the second back, it was a trailing game script. 41% of the snaps ended up having 28 receiving yards. And this is a bad team. They're trailing every week.
Starting point is 00:09:28 So maybe that plays into Davis's hands a little bit, even the next couple of weeks here while we're dealing with buys and injuries at the running back position. It could be a flex option for you just in PPR formats because he does bring a little bit to the table as a receiver. So certainly should be looked on right now. Braylon Allen is going to be out of the mix. And we'll see what happens with Reese Hall. So Davis has an opportunity in the next couple of weeks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:57 And I think you nailed it. It's also a Breece Hall with the injury history. Davis, I think, would be a like for like replacement. And he's got the past catching ability, really productive collegiate player. I like Davis a lot. I added a lot of him last week. But I think this is one that definitely fell through the cracks in a lot of leagues. You're getting a bonafide handcuff.
Starting point is 00:10:18 And like you said, Braylon Allen, this might be at the end of the season for him. Joe, another player to mention in sort of shallow formats, we saw Kendrae Miller cleaned up. in a lot of leagues. But if he's still available in your league, Kendrae Miller is a really interesting ad because the stats were not nearly as good as we saw in week four, but he has another week where the snaps go up and he out carries Alvin Kamara, who is being phased down pretty significantly in terms of usage compared to what we saw last year. Your thoughts on Kendrae Miller if he's available. Yeah, I mean, I think he's a must add at this stage.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Alvin Camara could get traded. If I was trading for a back, I'd probably prefer Brise Hall. But Alvin Camara would almost certainly be cheaper to acquire because he has more, he's obviously older and he has a bigger contract. So I would think he'd be cheaper to acquire. I think Kendra Miller are these weeks with some teams on buy. He might slide in as an emergency flex for you. But he did lead the Saints in rushing again. So this is somebody you can say, look, it's not the most ideal situation.
Starting point is 00:11:26 to have to play him right now, but maybe he falls into the end zone, gets me 10 points in a PPR, and I ride that to a victory. Didn't happen against the Giants this week, but that plus the trade possibility for Alvin Kamara looks like something that he should be he should be rostered in almost every competitively. Yeah, 100% agree. I like Kendri a lot. Let's also mention Kyle Manangai coming back off of the buy week. Tom, you're interested in adding Monongai, sort of the,
Starting point is 00:11:55 the number two back in Chicago. And if DeAndre Swift were to go down, it seems like he would take over a good portion of those backfield touches. Yeah, Rochon Johnson's been MIA basically to start the season. Menongai is, you know, clearly blown past him here to start the season. And Swift hasn't been very impressive. It goes back to last year, too, you know, really struggling to create on his own. And maybe Menongai starts to.
Starting point is 00:12:25 I don't think he's overtaking him, but maybe he can make this more of a 60-40 split at some point later in the season. Maybe he can get some of that early down work. And I think this offense is going to be one of the, we've seen it a little bit here in the first four weeks of the season. It's an ascending offense with Ben Johnson. And I think grabbing pieces of this offense are a smart idea. So coming off the by, these younger players that were drafted by Ben Johnson, Colson Loveland at tight end, Luther Burden. We see it a lot, you know, later in the season usually.
Starting point is 00:13:01 But this was an early buy, but we do see these rookies coming out of buys. Sometimes they have their roles expanded. So keep an eye on those three rookies for Chicago coming out of the buy in week four. And for deeper formats, I'll mention that Chuba Hubbard banged up. We saw Rico Dowdle with a massive performance. Trevor ETN is sort of the short-term cuff. looked pretty good on limited opportunities. We mentioned also Tyler Algier, sort of a no-brainer ad,
Starting point is 00:13:32 one of the clearest direct handcuffs who also gets weekly work. He might have been cut in leagues because Atlanta was on a by week last week. Any other running backs to mention here, Tom, or can we move on? Maybe Gainwell, Kenneth Gainwell, if he's out there, they were on by last week, and he was getting a lot of work next to Jalen Warren. We don't know for sure if Warren. and is completely healthy and ready to play in week six. So maybe he flew under the radar in your league because of Pittsburgh's by.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Not a tough, not an easy match up here, very tough matchup against the Cleveland Browns this week. But Gainwell could be something that might be still sitting out on your waiver wire because of his by week last week. Yeah. If Kenneth Gainwell is still available in your league after that week four, it might be time to maybe wake up a little bit of your teammates there, guys. But a really, really interesting week at the tight end position.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Not a lot to talk about the wide receiver. but there's a couple of interesting ones, including a sleeper of years past. We're going to talk about right after this. All right. So, Joe, interesting player back for practice in Green Bay this week. What is, what, what, what, what, what, like a guy that will never go away. We saw the unbelievable rookie year production. We got really excited about him several times only to be disappointed.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Christian Watson, your enthusiasm level for Watson, adding him to your fantasy team. Do you want my real enthusiasm? level or do you want the enthusiasm level that might prevent me from getting yelled at by his dad on Twitter? A little bit of somewhere in the middle. Somewhere in the middle. So, uh, I have, I have become, I have been a victim of Christian Watson's dad yelling at me. Hopefully he doesn't watch YouTube. Yeah. No, he does. So it, I think what happened was it was, I made a comment. I remember the Jaden Reed situation this offseason where like he had to,
Starting point is 00:15:20 they had to assure his agent that his role wasn't changing. And I said, like, who are these Packers receivers like they can they can they can demand targets and christian watson's dad got in there on me but uh he's he's uh practicing uh since the acl um maybe in a deeper league but i was talking to tom before we came on air and he's like just what we need is another packer wide receiver to throw into this mix we're already taking guesses every single week about who's going to blow up and i'm still anxiously awaiting the matthew golden true breakout which i feel is coming because it felt like he's been close for weeks. And then the Romeo Dobbs scores three touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Wix is playing the slot. I'll be honest. If Christian Watson does return this season and is able to play, I think it's probably going to be in like a 40 to 50% route share type of role. And that's just not going to get it done for fantasy. When we're looking at a player like Jameson Williams, who usability-wise is probably, so they're not the same player, but usability-wise, like they're similar.
Starting point is 00:16:23 you hope they hit on a big play. Jameson Williams with a full route share is extremely inconsistent from a fantasy perspective. I think that's just more of an annoyance than anything else. Much more into him in best ball dynasty leagues than I would be in a normal league. And look at some FFPC dynasty leagues, I know the benches aren't as deep as other dynasty leagues and you have to make some difficult waiver decisions. Maybe he's out there in a waiver wire. That's where I would have my interest in Christian Watson. Yeah, I think he's an NFFC ad speculative, and that's pretty much about it. I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:16:58 We've been talking about Matthew Golden for weeks here. Romeo Dubs had the really big week a couple weeks back, but it's Matthew Golden. But Watson, again, it could be a short sample size. And Tom, I'll mention a couple of wide receivers and get your takes on them. If it was a short, like, opportunity for Watson and you used them on a three-game stretch towards the end of the year, there's scenarios where it could pay off. and a great sort of reminder of opportunities. We talked about Kenneth Gainwell.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Kendrick Bourne is sort of now the Kenneth Gainwell of wide receivers this year. Unbelievable performance. Shades of Richie James in years past, guys, if you know, you know. But Kendrick Bourne in San Francisco, a very impressive win short-handed against the L.A. Rams. We'll talk about Mack Jones a little bit, but Kendrick Bourne was on fire. 11 targets, 10 catches, 142 receiving yards. This is a fun one. Your thoughts on Kendrick Bourne being on the streaming radar,
Starting point is 00:17:58 they have another game where they're going to have to score points against Tampa Bay on the road in week six. Yeah, nobody is really running with much success against Tampa Bay's defense. So it could be another game where they have to air it out. Could be another Kendrick-Born game. We'll see about this knee injury for Ricky Pearsall. Maybe seeing Kendrick-Borne, perform the way he did in week five.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Maybe that lends the coach, the training staff to maybe give Ricky Pearsall maybe another week to let this injury heal up a little bit. He's been playing through some issues early in the season. Juan Jennings, the same thing. He's had this ankle issue. Missed a lot of training camp as well because of his contract situation and his calf situation. So maybe this is an opportunity for them to maybe let's let those guys get. healthy. We got Kendrick Bourne, who's coming off a great game. It also looks like
Starting point is 00:18:51 George Kittle might not be ready to play this week. Kyle Shanahan did say it was a long shot, so at least last week for him to, for them to open up his practice window. So we saw it on full display on that Thursday night football game. A lot of chemistry still there between Kendrick Bourne and Mack Jones. He was the guy for him in New England when he was a young player there. So maybe this is something that can keep going. I don't think this is one of those where it's sustainable for the rest of the season. But maybe for the next week or two, if you need somebody to fill in here as a flex, I think Kendra Thorne is certainly viable of Pearsall or Jennings, Michigan in week six.
Starting point is 00:19:33 And Joe, four and one San Francisco 49ers coming off of a big win against L.A. I think that this is a chance where they're just going to use BORN. You mentioned Kittle makes sense to sort of bring them back at full strength. the wide receivers all banged up. Joe, are you putting Kendrick Bourne in like your wide receiver three spot, your flex spot specifically for this week against Tampa Bay? Absolutely. Like you said, they got to four and one and unexpectedly so.
Starting point is 00:19:59 I mean, I had the complete wrong read on that game. And I think a lot of folks did as well on Thursday night. You almost get like a free victory out of it. Like they almost, you would think that was them punting that game, right? Like just say, let's just get through it. Hope nobody else gets hurt. and we'll re-evaluate that. I think now they have a tougher game against Tampa Bay,
Starting point is 00:20:20 but the schedule, as we have talked about all offseason, is actually pretty easy. So you take on Tampa Bay in Tampa this week, okay, that's a tough game. But then they got the Falcons at home. They travel to Houston. Then they travel to the Giants. So this is a stretch of the schedule
Starting point is 00:20:39 where Tampa is the toughest game on there. And I think they might just say, Ricky Pearsall, Juan Jennings, look, take a breather, Kendrick Bourne and DeMarcus Robinson did a great job. Don just did a great job filling in. We can get through this week. So Kendrick Bourne, in the event, Joanne Jennings and Ricky Pierrasall are out is a must start for me this week. Another player who put up fantasy points this week and sort of unexpectedly, Tom, we were talking about Ryan Flourneux in the pre-show. Florene was a senior bowl invite coming out of Southeast.
Starting point is 00:21:13 East Missouri State has good size. Interesting player because we saw Cavante Turpin miss. Of course, C.D. Lamb is going to miss probably another week or two. It seems like he's trending maybe a little bit better than when we initially thought. But what was interesting was I saw a couple people sort of speculating that this could be a Jellon Tolbert game. It turns out to be a Ryan Flournoy game. nine targets, six catches, 114 yards, also two carries for 10 yards. So really was sort of a like-for-like replacement for Turpin as sort of a Swiss Army knife guy. Your thoughts on Flourneux, are you adding him? Are you avoiding this one?
Starting point is 00:21:55 Is this just a one-week sort of explosion? Or is this something that could be sustained for another week or two? I lean toward this being a one-week explosion. I don't think I want to chase this situation. Cavante Turpin will see if he's, able to come back into the lineup this week. I would think that he would jump back ahead of him and be the number three wide receiver. But Lornaut's, you know, it was a strong performance. I mean, maybe this does warrant more playing time in the future. And we know that this, they're a little
Starting point is 00:22:24 banged up right now in Dallas with the Lamb situation and with Turpin out. So maybe in a deeper format, certainly I think he should be looked at there to see if this is something real. But I think this is probably just more of, we had sauce gardener on George Pickens, kind of took him out a little bit, other than that long touchdown reception. And we do have Dak Prescott playing at an extremely high level. So, but this is a situation where I think I'm going to stay away, not chase it, save my waiver position or fab budget for somebody else. I do think Turpin probably jumps back ahead of him as soon as he's healthy. Yeah, and we'll also mention that my guy Adonai Mitchell completely, completely buried.
Starting point is 00:23:09 So if Alec Pierce is available in your league, he's an interesting ad, just based on the fact that it seems like Adonized in the doghouse for sure. Pierce has had a couple of games that have been strong. Two guys that are interesting guys, and we've been talking about these players for weeks now. Another touchdown grab from Torrey Horton.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Tori Horton, this is the player where we're sort of looking at him almost like a handcuff. If Cooper Cup were to go down and his age, you never know. Cory Horton would go right into our fantasy lineups. Your thoughts on adding him as a speculative stash. Start out with you, Tom. Yeah, I mean, this guy just makes plays every week, and he's doing it on special teams as a receiver.
Starting point is 00:23:49 And his route share did climb up. I think he was around 50% of the snaps last week. So he's certainly starting to play a little bit more. That was maybe a little bit more game script dependent there. Buccaneers turned into a little bit of a shoot out there. So we saw more three wide receivers on the field. But he's playing so well that maybe he does warrant, you know, more playing time in the future.
Starting point is 00:24:16 And yeah, if something does happen to Cup, God forbid, if something happens to JSN, he's going to be the top waiver wire pickup in that given week. So if you want to get ahead of the process, if you have the roster spot available, certainly worth a pickup. And he's proven on his limited change. chances so far this season that he's capable of making some big plays.
Starting point is 00:24:39 And he could be a guy that proves to be a difference maker in the second half of the season. And we'll see if Cooper Cup can hold up for the whole season. That's another thing. Like he's dealt with a lot of ankle issues and lower body issues over the last few seasons. So we'll see if he holds up for the entire season. If he breaks down a little bit, Horton could be a little bit of a difference maker for fantasy teams in November and December. Yeah, I really love Horton. I think if you're a dynasty manager, you need to stash him because of all the things that Tom said.
Starting point is 00:25:10 There's a scenario where we go into 2026 and you're starting wide receivers in Seattle, our JSN and Tori Horton. I think he'd have a ton of juice as a wide receiver too. And that's viable if we see Cup go down. We're going to talk about Darnold in a little bit. Joe, another young player who dynasty managers definitely have circled, Isaac Tesla, catches another touchdown pass. and now we're seeing a potential opportunity for more playing time. Khalif Raymond is now injured.
Starting point is 00:25:38 Your thoughts on Tesla, would you rather have Horton, would you rather of Tesla? Where are you going to go with this one? I'd rather have, I'd rather have Horton to Tesla at this point. I just think his role is bigger. But you wonder if the James and Williams thing continues to just be inconsistent if the lions will look for ways to get Tesla onto the field. I know Tesla is kind of a hyped player because of his athleticism and the preseason he had.
Starting point is 00:26:01 I just think there is a greater pathway to relevance for Tori Horton at this point because of Cooper Cup's injury history. And that doesn't mean James can't get hurt. Obviously, he's had injuries in the past or maybe something happens to Amunra St. Brown, knock on wood. But I think Tori Horton has the greater path to relevance right now. Yeah, I like rostering both of them. I agree that Tori Horton, it's much closer.
Starting point is 00:26:26 He's made way more plays, had way more playing time. Tesla, I think it's more of a contingent upside play strictly, like you said. And I also say if Sam Leporta went down, I realize Brock Wright sort of would see more snaps, but you'd have to think Tesla might see more targets. So quality of the offense trends towards Detroit, but Seattle's offense looking pretty good as well under Clint Kubiak. We'd say that this is a very mediocre week for running backs and wide receivers, but an exciting week for tight ends. We're going to talk about a few of them right after this. All right, welcome back, guys.

Tom, briefly, let everybody know the heater you're on right now and your streak. Yeah, it was a great week here in week five, 12 and 1. One loss. So a really strong week. Up over 25 units overall for the player props in just five. week so hopefully we can keep it going. Hopefully regression isn't coming, but I'm seeing the ball
Starting point is 00:28:06 pretty well. Chris Wecht has the industry's best projections out there. I get an idea of what I want to bet on, and if it kind of lines up with what our projections are saying, it's a bet for me. So Chris deserves a lot of credit for his projections as well. So get on board here. I'm not just the only one. We have Justin Barnes and John Hanson obviously does his own bets. We have a lot of great contributors on our betting side. So get in on a fun here. Maybe your fantasy team. You're listening to the Waverwire pot. So hopefully we're helping you turn around your team through the Waverwire wire. Starting point is 00:28:55 Yeah, bets we're hitting on at a very high level. We had some major, major DFS wins for fantasy for fantasy point subs this past week as well. We have you covered everything in fantasy wise. Really, really fantastic content coming out every single day at fantasy points.com. Use the code Theo. Joe, we love seeing when teams are sort of telling us what's going to happen in fantasy. It sort of takes a lot of the guessing work out of things. And when a team is trying to establish a young player and continually targeting them,
Starting point is 00:29:27 it makes our job so much easier. 19 targets the past two weeks for Mason Taylor. It seems like the Jets are really trying to establish him. We recommended him as an ad last week. Last week it was sort of a, okay, I see it. The guy had seven targets, five catches, 65 yards. And then it went up much, much higher this week. Nine receptions for 67 yards, 12 targets.
Starting point is 00:29:52 The Jets lose to Dallas handily. But Mason Taylor looks like he's going to be a thing. Besides Garrett Wilson, I think Mason Taylor, is the Jets pass catcher that you want on your roster. Would you agree with that statement? Yeah, I mean, that's the, I think it's blatantly obvious. I mean, you go look at some of the names on this roster. Hell, you could throw out random names to me.
Starting point is 00:30:13 And it would be, it would be a guessing game as to whether or not those guys are actually on the Jets roster. Of these tight ends, we're going to talk about Theo. This has been a difficult discussion, I think, for us to have every week, because you're really just kind of playing whack-a-mole, right? You're just trying to make sure the one of these tight ends in the tight-end six to tight-end 20 range that you start every week is the one who actually gets the targets. But Mason Taylor certainly looks like somebody who should be a high-level target earner in this
Starting point is 00:30:45 offense. The only question is how many quality targets are available in this offense with Justin Fields playing quarterback. I guess the good news is, after it looked like Justin Fields was going to bust as a top streaming quarterback last week. The garbage time was there for them, and the jets he threw for nearly 300 yards. And the problem is this defense has been so bad. So they're going to have to throw the football.
Starting point is 00:31:09 Mason Taylor is easily the number two target in the offense. You mentioned Braylon Allen went down already. Who knows if they decide to trade Brees Hall. He's one of their only positive assets that they could trade at the deadline. That should open up more work for Mason Taylor. He's probably of these tight ends, the priority ad for me. Yeah, Mason Taylor is a top 10 tight end. and Dynasty as well right now.
Starting point is 00:31:29 Mason Taylor, I think, is going to continue trending up. They used a very high pick on him. They're going to get return on their investment. There's a certain capped upside with using him because of the quality of the team and the offense. But I think him giving you low end, tight end one numbers, rest of season is absolutely in the range of outcomes. Last week, we talked about Darren Waller and adding him.
Starting point is 00:31:50 This was a huge win for us last week. Even better when it comes to Waller. Waller, of course, three touchdown grabs the last two weeks combined, has five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Really, really looks good out there. If he's available at him, we also talked about Theo Johnson last week. And this worked out quite well. He had two touchdown grabs. But what was also great to see when it comes to Theo Johnson is the seven targets.
Starting point is 00:32:17 I think if we're going to see him in that five to seven target range every single week, Theo Johnson could have some viability. Tom, you mentioned Jake Tongis. What would be your enthusiasm level for you? And I will add this one. Scott Barrett and I have a Tucker Craft FFPC main event team where it was Tucker Kraft. And then our tight end two for a while was guys like Jonu Smith, Isaiah likely,
Starting point is 00:32:40 sort of going through the motions there. Add Jake Tongis. Use Jake Tongis last Thursday night, sort of hold your breath, gets the early touchdowns, early touchdown catch, and ends up getting a ton of target. ends up being a huge win as a spot start. Do you think that could continue
Starting point is 00:32:57 and tight end premium managers can use him again against Tampa? I'd be willing to use them again this week. It looks like George Kiddell is going to miss another game. Kyle Shanhan said he's a long shot to open up his practice window in week six. He was heavily involved last week and great matchup against the Rams. They got the Buccaneers this week. We just saw AJ Barner score two touchdowns. had seven catches for 53 yards.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Dallas Goddard had two touchdowns a couple of weeks ago. So massive performances, over 19 fantasy points to both of those guys in the last two weeks. So I think Tonges is like, he's going to be a top 12 fantasy option this week if Kittle does in fact miss. We probably do need maybe Jennings or Pearsall to also miss to, you know, make a few more targets available for him. But I think this is a younger player that's getting more and more confidence. And Mack Jones has worked with him a little bit. Got to work with him in a second team offense during training camp. And they do have a little bit of a connection early in the season here.
Starting point is 00:34:08 So a guy that's playing better and better with more playing time and a big opportunity against the Tampa Bay defense this week. So I will be picking him up and using him if I really need a tight end this week. Yeah. And I think, Ton, just if you, if you need a tight end for this week is really appealing because he's going to be cheaper than any of the other tight ends we mentioned because everybody knows Kittles on the way back. Joe, a tight end though that's starting to trend up a little bit is A.J. Barner. We're seeing the Seattle offense. Seattle's trending up in general offensively. I know they lost the game, but I think fantasy managers should be pretty excited about what Kikubiap's putting out there.
Starting point is 00:34:45 A.J. Barner's second year tight end, we were really excited about Elijah Arroyo heading into the season, but it seems like A.J. Barner is the one you want to roster. Again, I sort of cleaned him up as like the $1 guy in some of these FFPC leagues in like week three, week four, just because he's on the field so much. Week four, he catches a touchdown pass. And then week five, two touchdown grabs, seven targets, catches all seven of them. There seems to be a chemistry between him. and Sam Darnold, your thoughts on Barner and maybe put it in a context with the Theo Johnson's, the Wallers, the Mason Taylor's. The thing with Barner was the first time all year he had more than three targets in the game. And the Seahawks went past heavy because the Buccaneers have a really
Starting point is 00:35:32 good run defense. And the Seahawks were able to run the ball when they needed to. They were able to get a couple of chunk plays with Kenneth Walker, but it was very clear that their approach to the game was to be drop back heavy with Sam Darnold. And they've been kind of game script dependent on that, game plan dependent rather. And so AJ Barner, when it comes to somebody like Theo Johnson, I'm going to say that Theo Johnson is going to be the more consistent target earner and is probably the better bet if you want a floor play, especially since Darius Slayton is dinged up. but that giant offense is going to be so much worse than the Seattle offense. Barner is going to be your better bet to score a touchdown.
Starting point is 00:36:15 But, I mean, just the first time over three targets in a game in week number five, maybe he is ascending, but it's really been the touchdowns that have that have buoyed him. He scored in three of his last four games, including a two touchdown performance. I probably prefer Theo Johnson just because I think Theo Johnson is going to be a more consistent target earner. I definitely prefer Mason Taylor, but he, A.J. Barner is somebody who now has established himself as a red zone threat. And if you pick him up and start him when you have a buy or an injury, I think you have a reasonable expectation that he could score touchdown that week. Yeah, it's touchdown or bust. I agree with you. Theo Johnson is the is the one that I
Starting point is 00:36:55 would want over him easily. But I do think Barner is trending up slightly. Tom, talk about Tassum Hill. Taysom Hill is might be, might be an android. He might be a Terminator. We'll find out later. And he's, he's older. He comes back from injuries. And I guess we're going to, I was sort of like apprehensive about whether this would continue under Kellyn Moore.
Starting point is 00:37:20 But I think there's a chance at some point we're going to see a Tysm Hill game. Your thoughts on stashing him on your roster and sort of see where this thing goes. Yeah, I think it's, it's kind of time. He had a pretty prominent role. I don't think many people expected him to be ready as soon as he was eligible to come off the IR. Multi-ligament injury towards the end of last year in December. We're seeing Brandon I.U.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Who got hurt much earlier in the season, he is really struggling to come back from his multi-ligament injury. And Taysam Hill, older player, he's just a freak. He's back and he played 14% of the snaps. He's mostly playing at quarterback right now. but Kellamore, new offensive coordinator, I'm sure he's going to get, you know, just like, you know, Sean Payton in the past,
Starting point is 00:38:08 that he's going to want to, you know, dabble and use him in some other situations as a receiver, as a runner in the backfield. So I think we're probably going to have some Tays and Hill games. And we saw it a little bit in week five. Comes in whenever they're in the rent zone, whenever they're in scoring situations. And that's really, if we're looking at the tight end,
Starting point is 00:38:30 position. That's where he's eligible, even though he's playing mostly at quarterback. A lot of times we're just hoping our tight end has a chance to score a touchdown. And if he's coming into the game, whenever they're in scoring situations, he's going to have opportunities to score touchdowns. We've seen it in the past with this offense. We'll see if Kellamore gives him more opportunities. But he is back and in the mix. I'm shocked. I thought maybe we would see some Tassum Hill later in the season. But he's already in the mix here in week five. So if you want to stash him now, I think it's worth it if you're really struggling at the tight end position. Yeah, remarkably
Starting point is 00:39:11 athletic player. It's crazy his career. And it's just nuts that we're talking about Taysam Hill. Every single year at some point on the waiver wire, you have to talk about Tassum Hill. You can almost set your clock to it. And, you know, Joe, you talked about if Alvin Kamara moves on, Kendrae Miller taking over. There's a scenario where maybe the Alvin Kamara rush attempts could just be Tayson Hill rush attempts. Really, really a lot of like scenarios here. If you're in a deeper format, I think it really makes sense to have
Starting point is 00:39:40 Taysom Hill on your roster. Joe, Sam Darnold, we talked about a number of Seahawks on this show, but Sam Darnold, I would say it's been a really positive stretch for him. He had no touchdown passes in week one against San Francisco, a really quiet game. But in weeks two through five, some real positivity there. Week two, he has 295 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Week three, another two touchdown passes.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Week four, that game, they were pretty much in control, really an okay scoring outcome. But this past week against Tampa Bay, a true shootout. And Sam Darnold went toe to toe with Baker Mayfield. Mayfield is just on another planet right now, playing such good football. But Sam Darnold, four touchdown passes. people underestimated him last year.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Is it time that we start adding him as a by-week fill-in, as a strong QB2? Your thoughts on Sam Darnold. Yeah, I picked him up this week off the waiver wire just because I needed an option, and it worked out extremely well. But like you said, he's had games here of 23 pass attempts, 18 pass attempts, and 26 pass attempts. This was only the second time he completed more than 20 passes. And I think this was mostly game script dependent.
Starting point is 00:40:55 or I said game plan dependent. They identified the Buccaneers correctly so as having a really difficult run defense to go against. But the fact that they can do this, that they know that this is accessible to them, is a good sign. So if we see a high totaled Seahawks game, if you say, oh, this team's been stuffing the run really well,
Starting point is 00:41:16 I think that's a mental note to boost Sam Darnold in your projections. And he's got the weapons. It's a little thin beyond Jackson Smith and Jigba, but if they stay healthy and Cooper Cup can stay in his ancillary role, then you have Tori Horton and A.J. Barner coming in for their kind of the partial roles. It can look good in the right matchup, and this Tampa game was the right matchup. Darnel played really well. I know we've had the interception.
Starting point is 00:41:41 It went off a helmet of a defender, kind of a fluky play, but he played really well in that game. Yeah, and I know it's a source of frustration for fantasy managers to even mention it, but in games where Kenneth Walker and Zach Sharbony are both healthy, there's quality there at multiple spots on this offense. So I'm into Clint Kubiak. I like having Darnold as like a QB2. And if you're in a Super Flex League,
Starting point is 00:42:04 I think that the market has not necessarily moved on him to the point where you could probably buy him for cheap, even coming off of a four touchdown game where the manager might look like they're selling high, but I think Darnold's just going to stay there right on that solid mid-QB2 line for the rest of the season. Tom, we talked about Michael Pennick several times. I think I've sort of figured him out.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Way games, he's been putrid. We had sub 200 passing yards in week two and week three. But at home, he's been sensational. 298 passing yards in week one against Tampa also had a rushing touchdown in that one. And then the really big one was week four. Big win for Atlanta over the Washington commanders, get some momentum heading into the buy week. Pennix had 313 passing yards, two passing touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:42:51 Now two of his next three are at home. difficult one against Buffalo in week six, and then Miami in week eight, and then week seven in San Francisco, a team that can be beat by the past right now as well. Your thoughts on adding Michael Pennix to your fantasy roster. Yeah, as you said, they do have two of their next three games at home against Buffalo and Miami, that really good spot there in week eight. So they got the 49ers in between there. So maybe you don't want to play him there, but he has been much better at home.
Starting point is 00:43:22 the receiving course should be a little healthier. It doesn't seem like Darnel Mooney is going to miss time for his injury that he suffered right before the buy. And that's good news. They need that third weapon in this offense. Kyle Pitts has stepped up and Drake London is playing well. And Bejohn Robinson has been a monster in the passing game as well. So if they can get that fourth weapon, that will help things. The problem with Michael Pennix is it just doesn't run quite enough.
Starting point is 00:43:50 He did run a little bit in week one, but it hasn't been sustainable, and that's never really been in his game. So he has to get it done through the air. But, you know, maybe this is a player that could trend up later in the season here. I think people, you know, he got kind of thrown under the bus a little bit for that 30 to nothing performance against the Carolina Panthers in week three. But he is, you know, he's a seven starts deep into his career. This is still a very young player, at least by NFL. game started. He is an older player coming into the league, but he needs more time and maybe out of the buy here, we do see some improved play. Schedule is tough, though. It's not easy, but at least
Starting point is 00:44:34 he does have a couple of home games coming up. Joe, Mack Jones has just been fantastic. Three starts, really, really impressive work from Jones filling in for Brock Purdy. Hasn't passed for fewer than 279 passing yards in any of his three starts this year, has 342 passing yards in that, that win over L.A. Really, really strong stuff from Jones shows up to the game wearing like a Harvey Dent two-face kind of thing. It was completely weird stuff. But I think at this point, we'd say there is no team in football with a better backup quarterback than Mac Jones. Mac Jones was fantasy-friendly at times last year for Jacksonville, doing it again for San Francisco. The latest on Brock Purdy is week to week.
Starting point is 00:45:20 Your enthusiasm level with adding Mac Jones and using him in the short term. Well, if the short term means this week, sign me up. Look, San Francisco has not been able to run the ball all year. And that's been where they've gotten Christian McCaffrey involved in the passing game. Well, then who did they play this week? We just got done talking about Sam Darnold and the game plan. that the Seahawks had against the Buccaneers, because the Buccaneers with Vita Vaya clogging that interior,
Starting point is 00:45:48 they like to stuff the run. I can see the same exact thing happening this week. So Mac Jones, especially if he gets one of his guys back, Pierce, all or Jennings, we already saw Kendrick Bourne. He had a strong relationship with him. DeMarcus Robinson made some plays in that game. I am very interested in streaming Mac Jones this week if I need a quarterback. And I'll throw out one more streaming option to you, Tom, where it's been sort of a start your quarterback against the Dallas Cowboys has been just sort of a cheat code this season.
Starting point is 00:46:20 Are you interested in streaming Bryce Young at all this week? I would pass if I had the opportunity. He had a good matchup against the Dolphins this past week and didn't really put up major productions. So I'd much rather go for a Mac Jones if he's available, which he should be. he's only 4% owned in Yahoo League. So I would go that direction. But, yeah, Young is he could get Jalen Coker. That's a guy that we've talked about as somebody that could help this passing game.
Starting point is 00:46:51 He needs some more of those layup targets going into the middle of the field. So maybe Jalen Coker can't help him out. But I would prefer to go for Mac Jones. I think that is a much juicier matchup in just the way that they've been passing. much in San Francisco. I would prefer to go to Mac Jones for a streamer this week. I might prefer to have Mac Jones as my starting quarterback than Bryce Young if I was the Carolina Panthers too as well. I think the Jacksonville Jaguars might too. Oh, yeah. We'll see you about Monday night, but. Yeah, we're hyped for Monday night. Again,
Starting point is 00:47:26 we're recording this before Monday night football. If anything big happens, make sure you check back at fantasy points. We've got you covered. Quick mention Chris Boswell, one of the top scoring kickers. It might have been dropped during the by week. We're looking for slight edges. Boswell has been very, very good this year. And a streaming defense that might be there because of the buy week. Green Bay gets the very turnover prone, Jake Browning and the Cincinnati Bengals this week. This could be a big number from the Green Bay Packers.
Starting point is 00:47:55 Make sure you're sticking with us right here, Fantasy Football Daily. Graham Barfield and I dropping a start sit show. Matt Waldman is my guest this week.
