This is Fantasy Football Today from CBS Sports.
What a play!
Can you believe this?
I had no idea.
It's time to dominate your fantasy league.
Off to the races, and he stays on his feet.
He's just going to go the distance.
Now, here's some combination of Adam, Dave, Jamie, and Heath.
Yo, what's up?
Happy Friday.
Guess who's back from a month-long vacation?
Yeah, right.
Yeah, right.
Took like four total days off for the NFL season.
They just happened to be two Fridays.
Do you not know the difference between days and weeks?
It seems like you were gone for weeks.
No, it was just Friday.
Welcome back, Dan Schneier.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I've been back.
I've been back.
Yeah.
Welcome back to the show.
We've missed you.
Yes, that I appreciate.
I love this show.
It's very fun.
And I heard from a little source that Jamie is in my home state in New Jersey. Now, I won't take this any further because I found out he's in a place I've never heard of, some town in the middle of what most of us like to call South Jersey. He referred to it as Central Jersey. I guess we'll call it Central Jersey. But regardless, it's not the part of Jersey that I brag about sometimes on this show.
Oh, gosh. Jamie is actually the nice part of Jersey that I brag about sometimes on this show. Oh gosh. Jamie is. It's actually the nice part of Jersey.
That's why.
Yeah.
Jamie's up in the Northeast for the flex draft tomorrow,
which is a bunch of industry guys getting together.
Me never being able to attend.
And it's,
it's,
it's a really cool league.
So we actually.
I'm going to spend,
I'm going to spend a few hours with Nando just talking trash about you.
Go for it.
So we actually,
I mean,
surprisingly at this point in the
season, we have major injury
news here with DeAndre Hopkins,
Justin Herbert. Hopefully, we'll
get good news on Geno Smith. We'll talk about that.
We'll talk about players who are having a good training
camp. And we've got your, this is
a big mailbag. We have your emails,
fantasyfootballatcbsi.com.
Please feel free to email us,
fantasyfootballatcbsi.com. That is the to email us. Fantasyfootball at cbsi.com.
That is the letter I.
We've got your draft-a-thon questions.
So we've got several of those.
You can still make a donation for just $10 to have your question read on the show.
I would honestly recommend waiting.
I haven't been promoting that because if you buy it now, I mean, I guess there's a chance that it sells out.
There's only like 12 or 13 spots left,
so maybe you shouldn't wait too long.
But if you ask a question now,
probably not going to be able to read it for a few weeks.
We're going to have a mailbag once a week.
But it's going to sell out at some point.
And we have your Apple podcast questions.
We have a very good question about what to do in round three.
So I started my research about which position,
running back or wide receiver,
does better in round three based on recent history. And we'll go into some of those results. And then
we'll get your YouTube comments after that. We also have the fantasy cops. And before I get into
all the news, Dan, have you heard the new intro? I have not heard the new intro just yet. I'm
actually catching up. I'm like about one and a half weeks behind on fantasy football today.
Listen to the rich rebar episode, which was,
I realized July 11.
So I'm like even longer.
That was the beginning of the week and I've been just ripping through.
So I don't know the new intro now.
Okay.
Well,
it's a,
here's some combination of Adam,
Dave,
Jamie and Heath.
Well,
here's the new one that one of our listeners put together. Now here's some combination of Adam,
Dave,
Jamie,
Dan and Heath.
So good.
That's perfect. You'd like that. I didn't like that. Couldn't have done better. All right. First, we, and Heath. That's perfect.
I knew you'd like that.
Couldn't have done better than that.
All right, first we have good news.
Deontay Foreman, he was carted off yesterday.
His neck injury, x-rays were negative, and he should be fine.
Hopefully back with the team.
Cleveland running back Deontay Foreman.
And really, he could factor in at some point.
We'll do our running back preview on.
We're going to record part one on Sunday night.
It's actually going to air on Tuesday,
but next week we'll have running backs and receivers,
but we'll talk about that Browns backfield.
But Jamie, DeAndre Hopkins out approximately four to six weeks
with a knee injury, and Justin Herbert, we'll get to him.
He has a plantar fascia injury.
He'll be in a walking boot for two weeks.
But let's talk about Hopkins maybe back before week one, but obviously this is a,
this is pretty significant Hopkins out four to six weeks with a knee injury.
So his draft stock is going to plummet understandably. So, you know, when you're
talking about an older receiver with a knee injury already, and we don't know the severity of it,
you know, is it something that could, you know, he re-injures it during the season or he gets
tackled or it gets worse, you know, so.
But, you know, he may fall to a spot that you just say, OK, he's worth the risk because he's still DeAndre Hopkins coming off a thousand yard season in that miserable scenario last year.
And by all accounts, was having a good camp. So you don't want to draft him clearly to be a starter in a three receiver league.
You know, he's at best the number four receiver. I mean, for me, he was kind of in that range already, but I don't really look at the rankings because I just think receivers get pushed up so much, but in any event, he was wide receiver 40 for me. He'll
probably drop to like 45 or 50 in that range. Still somebody that I would take a chance on,
but just understand that you may not have him for the early part of the season.
It'll clearly be a boost for Calvin Ridley and we'll see what they do to backfill deandre
hopkins trailing burks was having by all accounts a good camp so does this open up the door for him
to be a factor and if that happens how much is there a trickle down to maybe impact the other
guys tyler boyd included so we could see some two tight end sets josh wiley's had a good camp also
p prisco is just there just raving about him um a rookie tight end. And then the running backs also should benefit as pass catchers.
But not good that you have an older receiver suffering an injury that
already is going to sideline him for a month of camp.
By the way, all the excitement of Dan coming back,
I totally forgot to say welcome to Fantasy Football Today,
presented by BetMGM.
I want to thank BetMGM for presenting today's show.
And sorry for the delay there. We'll tell you more about BetMGM later and how you can BetMGM for presenting today's show. And sorry for the delay there. We'll
tell you more about BetMGM later and how you can, we have an amazing offer for you. You can get up
to $1,500, a first bet offer, $1,500 first bet offer on your first wager with BetMGM. Stay tuned
for that. All right. So let's talk about Calvin Ridley and where you think he'll end up in the rankings and in ADP.
What, you know, did you, did you make that change?
I see him at 33 right now, right?
I have not updated my rankings.
I was traveling yesterday, so that'll get done either today or tomorrow.
But I'm not going to move him up too much.
I just, again, this, this isn't a season long injury for Hopkins, you know,
so he's going to be back at some point. So a spot or two in the top 200, again, this isn't a season-long injury for Hopkins, you know, so he's going to be back at some point.
So a spot or two in the top 200, probably,
but I don't see him necessarily getting a significant bump right now.
Now, I could be wrong because if Hopkins, again,
re-injures himself and misses time during the season,
then we're talking about a huge boost for Calvin Ridley.
But I kind of just anticipate Hopkins, you know, still playing hopefully, you know,
12 plus games. Yeah. One thing I would add to that though, is I agree with Jamie. He's not
out for the rest of the season. We can't overreact to this, but this is valuable time for building
rapport within a new system. This is a brand new offensive system. And now it's Calvin Ridley.
Who's going to be building that rapport with Will Levis. I know Hopkins Levis worked together
last year, but it was an entirely different system. And the timing of every route is completely different.
So I think that's valuable in some ways.
I'm still not going to jump Ridley up my rankings.
He was very low to begin with for me.
I don't really want much of this Titans offense passing wise,
at least,
but you know,
it's something to consider because he's going to be favored a lot.
And we,
we talked about Trey long or Jamie mentioned Trey long Berks.
This could be the opportunity like that. We, you know,
we shut that casket door and now it started to creep,
creep open a little bit with his impressive performance early in camp.
And now he's going to hopefully get those reps that Hopkins was getting.
Someone's been watching what we do in the shadows.
Oh, that's a great show. I knew you'd like that show.
I'm surprised you watch that.
I quit after in like season three or something, but
not because I didn't like it. I just couldn't squeeze it
in the schedule. Justin Herbert
with the... Speaking of
television, and we'll
just slide over to movies. You see what Tom Cruise is going to do?
Oh, I did see that. I did. He's a real
action star, but like I said on Twitter, he
will not be wearing glasses
when he does it because tough guys don't wear
glasses.
Anyway, Justin Herbert has a plantar fascia injury so uh dan is dan is this uh someone i know that you were pretty high on like hey we're sleeping on
justin herbert you talk about missing time in a new system and all that it applies here as well
uh your thoughts this one's super disappointing for me because one of the reasons I was so high on Herbert is I projected that his zone read rushing would go up because
that's what we've seen in Greg Roman system. And he's a much better athlete and runner than people
realize. And you've seen it on tape. He just hasn't run a lot in his past systems. This was
supposed to be the system where they start to use them around the goal line as a runner, or just in
general, run a little bit more plantar fasciitis, that's one of the scariest ones to me.
It's not a soft tissue injury.
That's probably even scarier.
But this is the type of thing that re-aggravates itself.
Typically, you eventually see surgery.
I guess he'll just manage the pain throughout the year is what the plan is going to be.
Put him in a boot for four weeks where he's not getting any of these reps in with McConkie.
Two weeks.
Two weeks in the boot um but
it just scares me man because if he's not going to be if he's going to be just playing through
the pain all year i don't know who was the player who i'm trying to remember maybe three four years
ago who naji harris i think naji harris that was the last plan that that really i don't know if
it was planter fashion i know it was a foot foot injury, and it was right before the season started, and it was bad for him.
It really affected him.
And Herbert's not a runner, so he's not going to have to rely on it
like Najee did and plant off it.
But, man, it just doesn't feel good.
Jamie, any rankings adjustments for Herbert, for McConkie, Palmer,
for the running backs, anything like that?
The running backs, no, but we still have Dobbins.
I don't believe he's been doing team drills.
He's been doing individual drills, so that's another one to keep an eye on.
It was almost like same old Chargers yesterday.
I don't know what the finality of it is, but Joey Bosa left practice.
Kamani Vidal left practice.
You had the Justin Herbert news.
For Bosa and Vidal, I believe they ran off practice.
Could have been back and, for all I know.
But it was live tweeting from the beat writers that they left practice.
I don't know anything happened.
And Harbaugh is apparently becoming a little difficult with the interviews.
So, yeah.
I mean, so McConkie was in a group.
I was looking at it this morning when thinking about what I'm going to do.
He was like wide receiver 37.
And I had him just ahead of Deontay Johnson and Christian Watson.
And I was already torn on those guys to begin with.
So he'll fall behind those guys and probably fall behind Keenan Allen in that group too.
Just because, again, you know, you have a rookie with a quarterback, like Dan mentioned, you know, the rapport and developing, you know, that consistency in a new system is tough when they're not working on it.
So, again, these guys will end up being good values, good bargains, but this, this just puts a little
bit of a, uh, uh, I think it caps the ceiling a little bit for McConkie and potentially for,
for guys like Josh Palmer and whoever else you may be into in that passing and Quentin Johnson
or DJ Chuck. All right. I got a lot to get to here. We are, uh, we have more news. I want to
talk about the guys who are,
who are rising in training camp,
although that'll be a topic for Monday.
There's good news on Gino Smith,
by the way.
Oh yeah.
What is it?
Uh,
apparently it's going to be fine according to Schefter.
So,
oh,
great.
Um,
sounds like they're just keeping an eye on it,
but that's not expected.
That one sounded the scariest to me when I was listening to the,
the presser.
So yeah,
uh,
he,
he said this was seven minutes ago.
Um,
source said, quote, he shouldn't miss any time.
All right.
So we'll get to the rest of the news and notes in a second.

Let's take a look at the rest of the news items here,
and there might be more that I'm missing,
so if I am, fill me in.
Josh Jacobs mispracticed with a groin injury.
Marshawn Lloyd is apparently having a very good camp.
Khalil Herbert and Jamie, I'll go to you on this one.
Khalil Herbert and Roshan Johnson, they both played in the Hall of Fame game last night.
The starters were not playing.
Seemed like to me that they alternated series.
But Johnson maybe was the two minute drill guy.
Full disclosure, I did not watch much of it.
I watched some of it.
So I wasn't tracking it that closely.
People were freaking out about Josh Jacobs two years ago
when he played in the Hall of Fame game
and then he had 2,053 total yards and 12 touchdowns
and was one of the best players in fantasy.
But what did you make of Herbert and Johnson
playing last night?
I would anticipate they're A, trying to figure out who's they're gonna who's
gonna be their number two guy who's gonna be in their passing downs role if they decide not to
use deandre swift and that but also we've said this you know are they maybe showcasing one of
these guys as a trade chip you know so it's it's probably a number of things um the good news is
is that swift did not play and so the fact that swift is clearly locked in as the guy and it's
funny because we've we've kind of poo- poo pooed a lot of Deandre Swift.
You know,
I know Dave on our show yesterday,
I don't think we spoke about it,
but on the CBS sports network show,
it was one of his rankings followers.
I don't know exactly where he dropped them to,
but I saw him on the list.
You said you're not drafting Deandre Swift very much just because he's not
in that range of guys where you're taking him on.
I know you're not like being critical,
but I love Swift.
I just,
I don't love his fantasy.
And you referenced,
you know,
Jacob's comment about the goal line worker.
Jacob said he's one of the worst goal line,
one of the worst short yardage running backs in the NFL.
The one thing that I keep going back to is every time I,
I see a bears practice report update and Caleb Williams and Caleb Williams
did dah,
dah,
dah,
dah,
dah.
It's dump off to Swift, this Swift that like it just seems like he's very involved right now and for me I don't want to
reach for Swift uh we we talked about this Dan um I think you took him in the pick by pick like I was
the the pick 17 that I won zero RB I was like oh my god I'm about to pull off Jonathan Brooks and
DeAndre Swift back to back after going zero RB, I was like, oh my God, I'm about to pull off Jonathan Brooks and DeAndre Swift back to back
after going zero RB through six rounds.
Like that would have been a steal.
And, you know, kudos to you for drafting.
I think he's a decent fallback option
as a low end number two running back.
Like he's not somebody I think
that's going to be a significant difference maker
unless he does something
that we haven't seen from him yet.
But he could be a 1200 total yard guy and probably six touchdowns wouldn't shock me six total didn't
i draft him yesterday by the way you remember he may have he might have if i did i'll give you the
context and and 40 catches i mean he was 39 catches in philly you know and right and this
this should bump up that number because that's what he was doing in Detroit. So 50 catches, 1,200 total yards, six total touchdowns.
Like that's not a bad number to a running back.
I'm a little torn on him just because I do foresee the possibility of like an early season James Cook situation where he's removed from the goal line situations and the red zone situations.
And then it's like, what are you getting out of him?
Because I do think the reception total, it's impossible not to rise getting away from Jalen hurts.
And at the same time,
Caleb Williams,
having watched a lot of Caleb Williams tape,
he's not going to be the type of quarterback that's checking down to these
running backs and,
and,
but that's funny.
You say that though,
because the first practice that the bears had,
there was a story that came out the next day that said,
Caleb Williams learning to take what's available.
Okay.
And,
and that stood out to me.
And then again, every time I see a beat roar, beat writer tweeting, you know, bears, Caleb
Williams look good in two minute drill.
It was Swift, Alan Swift, Odunze, blah, blah, blah.
You know, like it just feels as if there's, there's something there.
I'd like to talk to one of the bears guys just to get an idea.
Yeah.
Listen, I took Swift with the 11th pick of round seven.
He went after Pollard, Aaron Jones, Najee Harris, and Javante Williams. So as someone
I don't, yeah, I don't typically draft DeAndre Swift, but I'm never going to say I'm never
drafting a player at any value. So I took Swift there almost last pick of round, uh, round seven
Tajay Spears was the next pick. It was a half PPR draft. So I was happy with that. I just,
my thing is like,
how is he going to catch that many passes
if I think Caleb Williams is going to scramble
a decent amount and he's got Keenan Allen,
DJ Moore, and Roma Dunzey.
I just can't see like,
I think 40 catches is a good estimate.
And then what happens near the goal line?
Because Khalil Herbert is a good running back.
I mean, he shows it all the time,
but all right, moving on, moving on.
Sean Payton praised all of his running backs,
and he said Javante Williams looks like a completely different player, and he's healthy now.
Rams guard Jonah Jackson, a big offseason acquisition for them coming from the Lions.
He's expected to miss the preseason with a shoulder injury, but Jonah Jackson could be
back for week one for the Rams. DJ Moore signed a big four-year $110 million extension with more
than $82 million guaranteed.
Denver lost a backup offensive lineman,
Quinn Bailey, to a broken ankle.
Tampa Bay offensive lineman, Sua Opeta,
tore his ACL.
He was competing for a starting job at left guard.
Saw on Tuesday that Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins split first-team reps.
Tennessee linebacker, Arden Key,
suspended six games for violating the PED policy.
Kadarius Toney hurt his leg.
Hopefully he's fine.
Tampa Bay Edge Yaya Diaby is out four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain.
That's a good young pass rusher for the Bucs.
Hopefully he can be back for week one.
They get Washington at home in week one.
And Trey Sermon appears to be the number two running back for the Colts.
Did a half PPR draft yesterday, and I had the ninth pick,
because I always get the ninth pick, which sucks.
No, it doesn't suck.
But I auto-drafted.
I was on a work call.
Jonathan Taylor in the...
No, not auto-draft.
Jamie probably gave me Jonathan Taylor in the first round.
And then I took Jameer Gibbs in the second round.
But here's the thing.
If you start your team with Gibbs and Jonathan Taylor,
you are probably not getting a handcuff.
It's like,
you'd have to really take David Montgomery early.
And I don't really want Trey sermon.
So just something,
if you're into like,
Oh,
I want to draft a running back who has a good handcuff.
That's not the best start for you.
If,
if I actually did that in that draft for the first time,
like the way the draft felt to me,
I drafted Kyron Williams in round two
and Josh Jacobs in round four
and ended up taking Blake Corham and Marshawn Lloyd.
Oh, both of them. Cool.
Yeah.
All right.
Should we talk about good camps?
We could save this for Monday
because Monday is a riser show.
My alarm is going off.
That's not good.
All right, we'll check on that.
I'll say this with one quick note on Good Camps.
You got a lot of heat, Adam, for your early, I would say, bullishness.
Though now, to me, it looks like you're going to be way ahead of ADP,
at least on Malik Neighbors.
And if you see what you were saying before,
like where you were taking him, and listen back to some of our shows from
like a month and a month and a half ago,
people were laughing.
Some I'm going to throw Jamie's name out here.
Jamie was laughing at you for where you were taking Malik neighbors.
Now you couldn't even get him in that round.
You'd have to go around and a half higher to even get him.
Um,
and I'm not saying he's going to warrant that hype.
Still a lot has to happen.
Daniel Jones has to be competent.
Um,
and no giants offensive line has to hold up for any of this to work.
But, man, does this kid look good in camp?
Like, there are some plays where he's just like four to six yards separated from the defensive back.
So, and I addressed this.
I said, you know, behind, Adam was ahead of the curve on this as well.
How much of that, though, is the Giants defense?
Oh, their secondary is so bad.
That's certainly possible.
But just to, you just to circle it back
to what actually matters for fantasy,
I will say this.
It's clear from watching these practices
that Brian Dable has designed this offense
to get the Baltimore League neighbors.
There are multiple times
there's a little short route he ran
where it's clear outs from three players
just to clear out space for him.
That's the one thing we can stick to.
This offense is going to run through neighbors.
It may not run well through neighbors, like you said, Jamie, because he could just be
taking advantage of a bad defense and the old line may not all of it. Daniel Jones will say,
but the objective here is to get the ball to neighbors. And that's something that I'm not
sure we can say right now about Rome. And I know there's speculation that we're saying it about
Marvin Harrison jr, but I haven't totally seen that just yet in Cardinals camp. To me, it's very,
it seems very concentrated through neighbors right now.
So, yeah, we talked about that quickly yesterday
in terms of the gap should not be as far as it was.
No.
For Harrison and neighbors.
And so just for some context,
I was taking neighbors in the fifth round around wide receiver 30,
and that was early in the process.
And I think someone also brought up that on draft
night we were talking about it and maybe it wasn't draft night but it was early and i said
all it's going to take is a few good reports or highlights and everyone's going to be moving
neighbors you nailed that it's so obvious going to happen and he is playing against i think could
what could be the worst secondary in the nfl um but uh right any who, um, I actually am now probably not going to get a lot of Malik neighbors,
but like I said, when we were talking about it a few days ago, that's a player I'd be
willing to reach for goal, you know, say, look, there's no way I'm going to get them
if I stick to my rankings, but I want some Malik neighbors I'd be willing to reach for
him, but he's getting 150 plus targets if he stays healthy.
Like that's what I'm thinking. Yeah. round four would have to be the earliest for neighbors right
so as i said yesterday i know we're going way down on this this rabbit hole but um
i had moved him to the back end around three when i first made the adjustment and now it's
um early round four if jamie's right and he's gonna get 150 i still think that might be a
little too much of stretches because this offense his offense could be so bad again,
and they may not just have 150 targets to give out at any time.
But if that's the case,
I don't think he should be anywhere later than round three
because if you start to look at the receivers in round three,
there's very few who you can project for 150 targets.
That's a ton for a rookie receiver.
If you told me if Malikik neighbors were getting 150 targets,
I would,
I swear to you,
I would take them in the second round.
Right.
But I know it's not a bad idea though.
Again,
remember those targets are not as good as a lot of the other
targets,
right?
There's a hundred catchable,
but that's a lot of targets.
I mean,
that's,
it is a crazy amount though.
Yeah,
but it's not impossible given just what they're doing in camp,
man.
Everything is designed to get him the ball.
But one thing I'm noticing here is like this list of players I have is having a
good camp. It's almost all rookies. And that's what happens this time of year.
Like Will Shipley for the Eagles is someone Jalen Polk is apparently rookie
wide receiver for the Patriots having a good camp.
Marshawn Lloyd getting buzz, of course. Marvin Harrison also, you know,
we talk about neighbors all the time. Harrison apparently having a good camp,
but a couple of veterans, Greg Dortch for the Cardinals,
Andre Yoshivas for the Bengals.
Could be deep league guys, deep league guys.
Saw a report about Zach Ertz being a reliable target for Jaden Daniels,
a tight end for the Commanders.
I'm going to save that for our next show because this is a mailbag
and you've written in, and you deserve to get your question read.
So here we go. Let's go to Jimmy. Jimmy says, don't sleep on Kyle Pitts. Remember what Kirk
Cousins did for TJ Hawkinson in Minnesota. And even though, Jamie, we just talked about Kyle
Pitts yesterday on the show, I never brought up that angle of it, which is, yeah, Cousins was
really good for Hawkinson. Does that factor in at all when you talk about Pitts?
100%. I mean, it's the biggest factor. And I think I've said this a few times. When he had
a veteran quarterback as a rookie, he had a thousand yard season. Forget about anything else.
Arthur Smith, young player, like a guy that featured him and focused on him and allowed him to, you know, get better targets, better opportunities.
Now, Cousins, in my opinion, even coming off the Achilles is better than what Ryan was then because that was the end of Ryan's tenure.
He did go play for the Colts, but we know it was miserable the year after.
I think Cousins is going to elevate everybody there.
That's why we're all excited about Drake London, too.
So it's not just he's healthy, which is hopefully the case.
It's not just that it's a new coach and Arthur Smith is gone.
It's Kirk Cousins.
That's the obvious situation with all of us.
Yeah.
I'm going to do a quick plug here just because I'm not sure all of our
listeners are aware of this,
but we have a free newsletter that goes out every single day from Jacob Gibbs,
who you might've heard on Beyond the Box or that.
And my mind is by far and away the best newsletter I've consumed.
And I've consumed a bunch of these.
I'm not going to name the names.
I don't want to throw anyone under the bus.
But there's a difference in the level of content you're getting from this newsletter.
It's deep dive.
So I'm going to share one stat from this newsletter.
He's done team previews.
So he did a Falcons team preview.
This one stood out to me.
2022-2023 off-tar target rates as per Jacob Gibbs.
And you could sign up for that newsletter by going to fantasy football to just type in fantasy
football today newsletter. And it's free. Just type in your email. So off target rates last
from 2022 to 2023, two seasons, TJ Hawkinson with Kirk Cousins at quarterback 4.6% of his targets
have been off target. Kyle pits, 19.2% of his targets have been off target. Kyle Pitts, 19.2% of his targets have been off target.
Like that jump alone is going to lead to more receptions.
There's a little context there because Pitts has had the highest ADOT among tight ends.
Okay.
So it's obviously, I mean, look, that's a relevant stat.
It's a quarterback stat, but also the targets are further downfield.
I really need to see a lower ADOT from Kyle Pitts.
He's, you know, he's been used out from Kyle Pitts. He's been used too much
out wide. He's been used too much down
the field, which is not a bad thing. Down the
field is good. It gets you big plays,
but you don't get enough catches. You need the
layups. I'm hoping that they
use him to get some easy catches.
That's kind of what Hawkinson's done with Kirk Cousins.
That's why I feel like a lot of these Titans have done the layup
throws. I think that will come. I'm hoping.
I hope so, too. Here's one that will come. I'm hoping. I hope so too.
All right. Here's one from Doug S.
He says, dear, I think I don't.
50% chance Schneier gets this.
Dear Lorraine, George, Emmett, and Marty.
Back to the future.
Yeah.
Hey.
All right. That was unbelievable that I pulled that one out. If I didn't say Marty, you wouldn. Hey. All right.
That was unbelievable that I pulled that one out.
If I didn't say Marty, you wouldn't have got it, right?
No shot I could get that without Marty.
Might be a fun exercise to track the following roster
throughout the year, which represents players.
Jamie has run through his Eisenberg 5000
Fantastical Fantasy Football Carbon Dating Machine
and determined that they are too old to draft.
Would be fun to see how team father time would perform.
Below is a list of players Jamie has ixnayed
that could realistically be drafted based on current ADP.
Would be interesting to see if his anti-age theory holds water
or if the Eisenberg 5000 needs recalibrating
or something more drastic like a 1.21
gigawatt jolt of electricity.
Sending his father time
theory. Great email. Great email.
Here's the team. So I think we could change the quarterback
because Jamie is like not
his age thing. It doesn't necessarily
apply to quarterbacks, but the quarterbacks would be
Stafford and Cousins.
Not Rodgers?
Who's their highest one? I mean, they're all. Who do I like better of those guys? I mean, I like Stafford and Cousins. Not Rodgers? Who's their highest one?
I mean, they're all... Who do I like better of those
guys? I mean, I like Stafford better than
Cousins and Rodgers. I have Rodgers. Yeah, so Stafford.
Stafford and Cousins are your quarterback. Yeah.
Derrick Henry, James Conner,
Aaron Jones, Austin Eckler.
Jamie would vomit
with those guys. He likes Henry, but not the
others. That's rough. I'm running back
court. I like these receivers.
Kind of Devante Adams,
Cooper Cup,
Amari Cooper,
Calvin Ridley,
Cortland Sutton,
Brandon Cooks,
Tyler Lockett.
Where's my Calvin Ridley
get grouped in that?
I know he's old,
but he's doing this
based on 80 piece,
not just doing like all of it.
They can't give.
He can't give you Adams,
Evans and Cup necessarily.
And plus plus Henry,
Mark Andrews,
Pat Fryer,
Muth Fry. I like those guys. What is not horrible Andrews, Pat Fryermuth.
I like those guys. It's not horrible, this team.
This team sucks. It's not good.
It's not good. There really doesn't
appear to be a single first-round pick on this
team. That's a big issue.
That's the problem right there.
This is the example
of when it's time to sell a dynasty league.
Which start
do you like better?
Christian McCaffrey.
What?
Christian, what?
I'm giving him all.
Obviously that start.
No, all older players.
Christian McCaffrey.
And then who'd be at the two, three turn?
Like, oh, we have to take,
oh, no, Christian McCaffrey,
Devante Adams.
Derrick Henry.
Derrick Henry.
Or Brees Hall.
Yes.
Chris Olave. and James Cook.
Yeah, I would rather the three younger guys there.
Not me.
Yeah, no, I would.
I'd rather have Adams in a lot.
If you're going to make big bets on running back, aging backs,
that's my biggest thing in fantasy.
Yeah, I did that with our pick-by-pick with pick one.
Just McCaffrey is so, you know, so good.
All right, it's a good one.
All right, thank you, Dr.
What's Christopher Lloyd's character's name?
Dr. Brown?
Emmett Brown.
Emmett Brown, yeah.
Okay.
By the way, Back to the Future 2, dreadful movie.
Cannot even get through half of it.
Is so bad.
Is that the one where he goes back with the sports betting?
Does something with the sports betting?
I love that idea. He prints the cubs to win the world series
or something yes i love that premise that's that's a very small part of the yeah not enough
but what are they in the world series the same year then you get it right yeah you get it right
it's unbelievable uh dom from a city what are the simpsons get right they predict everything
everything yeah wait you don't know this they predicted uh you're diehard simpsons get right? They predict everything. Do they? Wait, you don't know this?
They predicted a- You're a diehard Simpsons fan.
You don't know about all this stuff with the Simpsons?
This is late-
There's like 15 examples of this.
I haven't watched the Simpsons in like 20 years.
I feel like you're joking with us.
You're supposed to be like the biggest Simpsons fan in the world.
I've seen some of that stuff with presidents or something like that, but-
Oh, it's like everything.
All right.
Dom from a city north of Sacramento.
What do you got there?
Bakersville.
Sure.
Dear Justin,
Kyle,
Jim and Jay.
Someone's definitely going to come on from California and be like,
Bakersville is South buddy.
Remember when you called San Francisco,
the Pacific Northwest.
I kind of feel like it is.
I still kind of feel like it is.
I'm going to be honest.
I just don't understand.
How could that not be the Pacific Northwest?
It's all the Pacific Northwest until you get to like L.A.
I mean, I think you have a point there, but right.
Yeah.
Like there's a difference between the lifestyle.
I've been to L.A. a bunch a few times.
Not a huge fan of it.
I've been to San Francisco.
Big fan of it with the with the Redwoods, with the with all the not San Francisco, but like that area with the redwoods with all the beautiful like scenery,
like,
uh,
you know,
nature out there.
It's just,
it's different lifestyle.
Yeah.
It's well said beautiful.
Um,
I,
the,
my question is who's actually the goat above all the analysts who typically
wins the most leagues.
My guess is Jamie first last might be Dave with his stubborn old man,
RBRB approach.
Ha ha.
Just kidding.
Love you,
Dave zig when they're zagging and Adam,
you are definitely the funniest next to Heath and Dan and Dave and Jamie.
Definitely top five.
Nice.
I don't know.
We should do a study on it one time and see who has the best,
like maybe one off season when,
when any of us have any time,
which is probably never going to happen.
We'll just do like a little recap because for my home league, we have like the history
and the standings.
And I do like a nice fun thing sometimes for the season where I'm like, this person's made
playoffs X percent of time and this and this and do all the stats.
But I don't know.
I feel like what would we put in there?
Will we put all the leagues, the dynasty leagues and everything, or just like our redraft leagues
that we do?
I think there's no answer to this question. I get this question a lot. Okay. I play in leagues. I
play in a lot of leagues every year with Dave, Jamie and Heath, and there's no consistency to,
Oh, this guy's okay. It's better. It's just, we all have our successes and we all have our bad
teams from time to time. Uh, this is from Nicholas Schaefer. If you could maybe,
Dan, Adam claimed he's never finished last before though.
You claim you've never had a last place finish in any fantasy football league?
I don't think I... I mean, maybe when I was...
Oh, come on, Adam. Maybe when I was really young.
Adam, when I was really young?
That's your answer. Maybe when
I first started or something, but...
We were talking about having a penalty
for finishing last. I was like, it won't be me.
I've never finished last.
It's never,
I've never had four injuries
to my top five players.
It may have happened
a couple years ago.
Unbelievable.
All right,
so hold on.
You've 100% finished last
within the last five years.
Maybe,
but I just don't.
Couldn't be more sure.
First of all,
I'm not a guy who ever quits.
That was what,
like some people just quit, right?
I'll never do that.
You cannot quit
and still finish last. It's happened to me multiple times.
I've had three of your first four guys injured. I know it's happened to you.
That's the whole point. It does happen to you. It doesn't happen to me.
Yeah. You've never had injuries to your top guy. I have. I just never finished last.
All right. So here's a question from Nicholas. All right. So he's looking at it was a good plug for draft.
You go to tiny URL dot comcom slash draft-a-thon 2024.
There's, you can see we've raised $5,666.
His question is based on the group shot, uh, is this group shot accurate?
It looks like Heath is seven feet tall.
Adam looks like he's five, nine, and Jamie looks like he's three foot 10.
So I'm going to give my assessment on this
from meeting everybody in person.
I would say this is not an accurate depiction
of the fantasy football today, Big Four.
It is not at all.
Jamie's a lot taller.
Dave and Heath are significantly taller than me and Adam.
That's easy.
But you're taller than I am.
I think just genuinely two people in this picture
don't look anything like they look
when I see them in real life.
Well, let's just go behind the curtain. Adam's not standing next to us in the picture the three
of us are standing with each other and i'm shorter than the and they superimpose adam to make him
look taller but they also put me in the back so like i'm standing like the farthest away from the
camera so i look shorter than that you're in front of me you look really short in this photo i'm not
gonna lie you're not you're not it's unfair whenever I'm not going to lie. You're not. You're not. It's unfair.
Whenever I'm standing next to them, I look small.
Dave, I think, said yesterday, 6'3", right?
So Dave's tall.
Dave and Heath are 6'3". Adam and I are closer in height, but I'm slightly taller than Adam.
But it just looks like Adam's a giant compared to me also.
I love this picture.
The fact that I'm nearly the same height as David Heath is absolutely hilarious.
So thank you.
All right.
That's our Draftathon plug. You can see the things that you can donate, that you can purchase
there. We've got a lot of questions left. We've got fantasy cops when we come back. We'll be right

Oh yeah, baby, here we go. It's the Fantasy Cops.
This one comes from Anthony.
It says, Dear Newton, Jones, and Zappy.
Patriots quarterbacks.
All right.
The 12-team Smitty City Standard League has been one quarterback,
two running backs, three receivers, one tight end,
and a DST, or a defense, for 20 years.
Gary, who has only made the playoffs in two out of 20 years,
wants to add a flex.
He notoriously saves too much auction money and scoops up a ton of above average depth pieces.
I hate change and I am voting no to this proposal.
He is attempting to move the goalpost to give himself a chance.
How do you feel about adding a flex to our current roster requirements?
Which again, one running back, two, which again, one running back to one quarterback,
two running backs,
three receivers,
one tight end and a defense PS,
the guy we kicked out of the league last year for missing the draft because
of his wedding anniversary is still happily married.
That's good.
Oh,
that was the same.
I remember that email.
That's so funny.
I am not going to give you the answer.
You like commish.
I like the idea of adding a flex.
I think adding a flex adds more skill to the game.
And if you can add more skill to fantasy, to me, that's always a good thing.
There's already enough variance slash luck involved in fantasy football.
I like to add more skill.
It's why I like super flex.
It's why I like auction as well.
Seems like you already do the auction.
You're not adding a super flex.
So at least maybe add a flex.
But I would even say go heavy change and add the super flex.
I mean,
we're,
we're August 2nd right now,
right?
Leave your hasn't started.
You put it to a vote and majority rules.
Like there's nothing wrong with attempting to make change.
You may not like it.
Three other people in your league may not like it.
The other eight or nine might,
you know,
so put it to a vote and see what happens.
All right.
Thank you, Anthony, for your fantasy cops question.
All right.
Next up, we have a fantasy cops question.
Well, I mean, he put it in the subject line, fantasy cops.
So I kind of agree.
I like this guy because he came with a great email.
I like hearing the music.
And I like the music too.
Exactly.
But I think Adam could have done a better job of curating and keeping,
you know,
we have what's very important to keep the show true,
right?
You can't just call fantasy cops.
Now everybody's excited for a fantasy cops.
And you're like,
well,
what if I had a flex to my league?
If that's not like,
that's not a fantasy guy.
Like the fantasy cops would have been,
we added the,
the commissioner added,
like we didn't put it to a vote.
We're all pissed off.
Like that.
Yeah, I agree. I agree. put it to a vote. We're all pissed off. Like, that's fantasy.
Yeah, I agree.
I agree.
I want to hear about angry email chain, people going back and forth on email chain.
This is marketing.
I was just marketing fantasy cops. No, it is.
It's like putting the name of a league on the league and then somebody asking, what's the name of the league?
What's the rules here?
Drafting against that because they didn't know what the name of the league was. Let me say something, by the way. what's the rules here drafting against that because they didn't know
what the name of the league let me let me say something by the way if anybody has no context
here so on on yesterday's cbs sports network show i said i made a reference to how jamie sets up all
these mock drafts and he'll set up a draft that says like august half ppr mock draft and inevitably
before the draft starts someone in the chat will say, hey, what's the
scoring? Is it half PPR? And it's like, let me make something very clear. This was me who did
it yesterday. And that's where I'm getting. That's what they're getting at. But let me make something
very clear. If you go to the draft room, it says non PPR mock. No, it doesn't. In the URL,
it said non PPR. Oh, in the URL. That's because it's obviously he's reusing a URL. Doesn't matter.
That doesn't matter. I am the one who has to look at those URLs because I add, in the URL. That's because obviously he's reusing a URL. That doesn't matter. I am
the one who has to look at those URLs because I add
them to the story when we add the mock draft.
Come on, the URL. I am a URL guy.
My eyes go to the URL. As the editor
and somebody who's publishing these articles
once they're live, I have to use the URL
to get the mock draft in. My brain goes
to the URL. That is my excuse.
Let me say something right now as we enter.
Wait, wait, wait. Hold on. Hold on. I just pulled it up. Right above the URL. That is my excuse. Let me say something right now as we enter. Hold on. I just pulled
it up. Right above the URL,
right above, in bigger letters,
August Ave PBR mock draft.
No, I was already out of the league homepage.
I just had my draft. I opened the
draft room like four hours ago.
This is the draft room. It says it in the draft room.
Yeah, come on. You got
nothing. Nothing here.
Let's move on.'s well no it's
okay to just be sure just so you know what there's never a bad haven't you ever heard the term it's
never a bad question to ask oh there's no such thing as a bad question i was just like dan was
mr popinski says dan was too busy doing stuff that's a great reference all right let's wait
can i just say something really quick here i have to read the next email for god i have something
very important to say oh i'm sure go ahead As we enter prime mailbag season with fantasy cops on
the, on the way, I think everyone who's played fantasy football has been a part of an angry
email chain that's happened with a commissioner rule or something like that. If you guys have a
fun, angry email chain that pops up at some point from now until the end of the season,
please send it into our email so we can read it on the air. I'm not doing Fantasy Cops for
maybe next Friday, but I'm taking
we got to get the position previews done.
Anyway, this next question comes from
Eric and Eric
says, but send the email chain, not the URL.
Dear Simone, Sky,
Jordan and Sunisa.
I'm guessing those are our gymnasts.
Yes. The most burning of auction draft questions
for me each and every year.
If you have a plan
and or already drafted a position
and someone falls,
what do you do?
Each year, a few players go for a price
that makes the room go,
wow, are you kidding me?
I paid three times that for the tier above.
Should you take the value for depth
slash trade bait
or stick with a plan
that fills out your roster?
Unless it's quarterback,
I would take the cheaper player.
Take advantage of the player falling.
Dave did this once upon a time.
First off, know your league.
If your league is very active
with trades,
then it shouldn't matter
regardless of position. Dave did this once upon a time where he ended
up with, it was RG three's rookie year. I forget who the other quarterback yet, but he already
did. He could not trade one of the quarterbacks. He, he tried, he tried, he tried, he could not
do it. And it was, he got, I think RG three for a dollar, you know, couldn't pass up on it.
It's hard to trade quarterbacks. You know, that's just most leagues I play in. That's the most difficult position to trade 1v1 for anything.
But if you're getting an amazing value, I'm trying to think who falls in that category right now that you look at and you say.
It would be a surprise to you that you're sitting there.
You've already spent money on two running backs.
It's going to be somebody like a DeAndre Swift, for example, that just falls and falls and falls and falls and falls.
Nobody wants to. And then you're in the dollar bids and he's sitting there. Or $2, whatever the two running backs. Well, it's going to be somebody like a DeAndre Swift, for example, that just falls and falls and falls and falls and falls.
Nobody wants to.
And then, you know, you're in the dollar bids and he's sitting there,
you know, or $2, whatever the case may be.
You know, somebody like that.
Like, you can't pass up good players.
Right.
You should never pass up good players. I will say this, though, because I understand the dilemma.
I also play auction drafts the same way this emailer, I'm sorry,
Eric, plays auction drafts.
Eric!
I have my set plan and I have it really to a T where I have like
different guys that could fit into a certain range, $7, $8, but I'm sticking to that and I
want it there. And I always end up thinking at the end of the drafts, like if I had just,
you know, played this a little more free and actually just taken values when they came at me,
I would have had a better draft from a value standpoint. So this year for the first time,
I am going to try to go away from that strategy and go into one auction that I do. It's mostly,
I only do auction drafts, one auction that I do just free and just try to get value and see how
it goes. I think, and what I'm always scared about doing this way is when you go off your plan is
you end up with a lot of money at the end and you, and you save too much and you, and you kind of
didn't play it right. So I do think overall, the better strategy is to stick with your plan,
but I think if you're going to take that value, you should just kind of didn't play it right. So I do think overall the better strategy is to stick with your plan. But I think if you're going to
take that value, you should just kind of freely play
the whole draft. Yeah. Well, you certainly
sound like someone who finishes in last
place a lot. All right.
Here's what we're going to do, Adam.
Here's what we're going to do.
We're going to bet each other.
We're going to tally how we do this year
in the leagues we're in together. How about that?
It's not going to be that many. It's probably only going to be like two.
I know.
Why don't I get invited to all the FFT leagues?
That's a big issue.
Now this is coming up.
We're in Bake Burger.
That's one.
Oh, right.
I don't know what else.
Yeah, but no, I might tank in that league.
I might finish last.
That's not on me.
That's not my problem.
I might finish last in that league, but, you know, that's, we'll see.
That's not my problem.
No, your team's too good to tank.
But my team's not good enough to win.
So, you know, I'm in purgatory there. All right. That's not my problem. Your team is too good to take. But my team is not good enough to win.
So I'm in purgatory there.
All right.
Let's read some draft-a-thon questions.
Everybody, you paid money to have your question read on the air.
So here we go.
Thank you so much for your donations to St. Jude.
It's a $10 minimum.
You can feel free to donate as much as you want.
Garrett Huck says, I'd love to hear who the guys think 2024's Puka Nakua will be.
I believe you made that call last year.
Good work. We've had this question several times, but I like it. It's a good one.
Who is this year's Puka Nakua?
The short answer is probably nobody, but who is
this year's Puka Nakua?
It feels like
there's a few guys that kind of fall.
Jalen Polk, for example, could be that guy
in terms of rookie
going to get potentially a lot of targets, but the quarterback situation may be terrible like there's like
everything aligned for him last year you know not even including the cooper cub being injured but
clearly that was case i think for for me like the guys that i'm looking at are there's two
and it's going to most likely take an injury it's jermaine burton and jalen
mcmillan i like what i'm hearing about both those guys i like the offenses that they're in
and if something were to happen to somebody on their rosters we're going to be running to the
waiver wire to get one of these guys so those are two that stand out to me i like those calls and
for it to work for to find a puka it can't just be you know you know, I want to say Brian Thomas, cause he's going pretty late,
but that doesn't count.
It has to be someone who is undrafted because that's what Puka was in the majority leagues.
He was a waiver wire pick up very rarely deep leagues, obviously it was drafted and he came
into a lot more targets and people realize.
So for me, that player who I think is not going to get drafted is 80 Mitchell, the wide
receiver on the Colts who has a ways to go to get these kind of targets.
And it's not a guarantee by any means.
But man, is the talent good for some of the people who go by the film like myself.
And that's another reason why I like to Jermaine Burton called by you, Jamie.
Those two guys on tape were really good winners in one on one situations.
And those are the guys that can sometimes just break out and play much better than you think.
So A.D. Mitchell is my pick for that.
But I think you kind of need something
different though like what puka did is he really commanded such a large target share that i'm not
positive a player like ad mitchell can can command right um jermaine burton's interesting because i
think if higgins gets hurt again or chase um that's when that could actually happen because
that's an offense it's gonna throw a lot uh i'm looking past that to other offenses that maybe are looking to throw a lot yeah uh and that's like yeah go ahead i got luke
mccaffrey if you got one go luke mccaffrey because he's a guy who can run a little bit too i think
johan dotson is not that much of an impediment potentially potentially i'm not drafting luke
mccaffrey we never even talk about him but uh he's he's older he's experienced i feel like he might
be able to contribute right away it wouldn't be more maybe like a second half thing um but uh that's just
one and i i'm a jayden daniels fan so that's one the obvious one fantasy wise it's not nfl draft
wise is ricky pierce all i mean you we've seen injuries happen to those guys before with you
know iuk not so much but debo goes down i know we're all saying oh my gosh it's kiddo kiddo kiddo
but it could be it could be somebody like Pearsall.
Again, you've got to be attached to good offenses and great opportunity,
and Puka just stars the line.
All right, next up, Pete Levin.
Would love some more discussion on the show in general
as it relates to Superflex salary cap and Superflex salary cap leagues.
My specific question is, what range of budget percentage would you allocate to quarterbacks this year in Superflex salary cap and super flex salary cap leagues. My specific question is what range of budget percentage would the,
would you allocate to quarterbacks this year in super flex salary cap
leagues?
This is a $200 league.
Alan and Hertz go for about $45.
That seems low to me.
Um,
it's fair in a $200 league.
I mean,
I like to go,
but in my league,
they're like 50 to 55,
but it's fine to go 40 to 45.
I think we overspend tier two, three quarterbacks are in the 25, $35 range out of 200.
Does that sound right to you? It does sound right. I mean, I'm in this exact same format.
I can give a little insight into this. I've been looking at the position strongly over the last
few days to plan my, this is where I start for every super flex, uh, auction draft or cap draft.
And I think this year there's options because if you look, there's some, it's pretty deep
at the quarterback position.
Like if you want to start something like Kyler Murray and Brock Purdy or something like that,
for example, you don't have to pay that same iron price that you're paying for the top
tier of Hertz, Richardson, Allen, all those players.
And Richardson's kind of in that second tier.
So I don't mind that idea.
If you want to go that route, I think if you go a top quarterback,
you're probably in my mind better off
kind of trying to get like some of those tier three,
two tier three guys to play the court,
the second, the super flex position
and whoever has the better week
out of those two better matchup.
So I don't mind that strategy.
One big, big dog like Alan hurts.
So I'll say this, like if we look at last season,
it is true that the same guys who were projecting to be the top quarterbacks are the same guys we were projecting to be there last year it's because
they produced and they performed and they lived up the expectation that doesn't happen at every
position in fantasy so i don't mind going for a top guy at this position either all right you just
it's the same like any auction you tear it or salary cap yeah you tear it you know and so if you
if you uh you know love love somebody in that tier,
just don't overspend for the first guy.
Wait till you see how it falls.
Next up, we have Tanner.
12-team, three-receiver PPR, Keeper League.
I can keep two of Ayuk, Olave, A-Chan, or Devante Smith
with draft penalties.
Yeah, I don't know what the penalties are,
but pick two, it's PPR,
Ayuk, Olave, A-Chan, Devante Smith.
Ayuk and Olave for me.
It would just depend on the penalty.
I mean, you know, A-Chan could be the late round pick.
It's hard to pass up on that
if he's done double digit rounds.
So it's hard to know without the penalties.
If it's just players, I agree. So it's hard to know without the penalties, but just players.
I agree.
So it's a lot of any,
this is from Tim,
Tim Morrison.
There seems to be a lot more ways to add excitement and scoring to the
point totals each week.
I'm assuming the guys prefer PPR,
but was wondering what are their favorite ways to change up the scoring
super flex points for big plays,
tight end premium.
When they set up their leagues,
what ways are they getting more points or perhaps are they traditionalists?
I don't really set up their leagues, what ways are they getting more points, or perhaps are they traditionalists? I don't really set up anything together.
Yeah, I don't set up anything.
I'm just a strong believer in auction and super flex.
I'm a bit of a traditionalist.
I mean, we saw very little impact from the kick returns last night,
but that doesn't mean they won't happen.
I don't want to add kick return yards as points this year.
I'm willing to see what happens this year
and then make an assessment for next year.
If you want to do it, I'm not going to criticize you.
That is absolutely your right.
I had a lot to say about it a few weeks or two weeks ago,
whatever it was, so I won't repeat all that.
I like half PPR better than full PPR,
but I definitely like both of them much more than non-PPR
and super flex.
Super flex is by far the best format.
Charles from a- For me, it's three receiver leagues, mostly. Jamie likesPPR and super flex. Super flex is by far the best format. Charles from a...
For me, it's three receiver leagues, mostly.
Jamie likes three receivers and a flex.
Yeah, you know what?
I would say two receivers and two flexes for me.
And I am starting up a new league this year,
so I'll see if I can convince them.
We're doing an auction,
so I'll see if I can convince guys to do super flex auction.
Charles Ginsberg says,
Hey, Richard, Vinny, Brooks, and Michael.
Ooh.
Don't know.
Not sure.
Richard, Vinny, Brooks, and Michael.
Hmm.
We do have an 11 o'clock meeting that I organized that now I'm late for,
so I had to text real quick.
No, don't worry about that.
I just feel bad.
All right, picking from the three spot and doing mock drafts in PPR,
I'm finding I'm loading up with bills.
I often take either Cook in the second or the third,
Kincaid in the sixth and the seventh,
and then receivers in double-digit rounds.
How many bills is too many bills,
assuming I don't have Josh Allen?
I don't mind three bills
in regards to Josh Allen,
Dalton Kincaid and James Cook.
Now you're going to get one of the receivers relatively late.
So it's not a bad idea to take shots on those guys.
But again,
you know,
you don't want to have so many starters on the same team,
no matter what team we're talking about.
Yeah.
But that's the unique thing about this is that he's not getting Allen.
So it's,
it's a two,
three pick on cook six, seventh round. I think that's kind of late. Kincaid is going in the fifth round and then a late round pick on a receiver. That's, that's the unique thing about this is that he's not getting Allen. So it's a 2-3 pick on Cook, 6th, 7th round.
I think that's kind of late.
Kincaid's going in the 5th round.
And then a late round pick on a receiver.
That's not bad for what could be one of the best offenses in the NFL.
I mean, it has been in the Diggs era.
We'll see if that carries over.
From Justin, my league is adding kickoff return and punt return yards
to scoring for both position players and defenses.
Which returners would you target in a PPR league and which defenses would you target?
And it is 15 yards for one point for kickoffs, 10 yards for a point for punt returns, and six points for touchdowns.
I mean, like Rashid Shahid comes to mind.
He's been a hot name, and he could obviously get a better target share, snap share this year as well, and help you in that regard.
Saints defense, probably not the best play,
but with the return yards, maybe a little bit of a boost.
I'm tending to be where you're at right now, Adam.
Only evidence I have is last night's game, which I watched,
and I don't really know if this kick return thing is going to be what we expect.
I think it'll be big.
I think it'll be a big deal because just for the simple fact
that there will be so many returns, I actually have it in my note. Last year, the Packers
led the NFL with 783 kickoff return yards. That was on 31 returns. So we're just the sheer volume
of returns. I guess that's a great point. I think the Jets, obviously, they're a great DST,
and they've got Gibson, and they've got Corley.
I think they've got good returners.
They're a team that I would look at for the DST.
I mean, the Dolphins are intriguing
just because they put in those guys in returns.
Yeah.
I think their defense is going to suck, though.
Yep.
Who else?
I think any team could be good at this.
So I would say just pick the best could be good at this. So just pick,
I would say just pick the best DSDs.
Yeah.
Right.
All right.
Uh,
and then,
uh,
Peter St.
George is in a 10 team half PPR league.
Keeper options are Devon HN in the 10th round.
Puka Nakua.
Oh,
they're all in the 10th round.
HN Nakua,
Sam Laporta.
That's the easy one,
right?
For most, but I would actually go.
Keeping one.
Oh, Puka.
Puka, yeah.
It is easy.
All right, let's go to our Apple podcast questions here.
This is from Owen Gallagher, McD.
Dear Matthew, Calvin, and Brandon.
No shit.
Brandon Pettigrew? Matthew Pettigrew. Lions receivers, then, if it's Brandon Pettigrew. no shit brandon pedigree
lions receivers then if it's brandon pedigree is that i mean if we're getting a more obvious
brandon i don't know brandon lloyd didn't play there right not that i remember okay this is a
great question i'm having trouble in the third round picking from the 1.6 spot in half ppr
it is a three receiver league.
It's also a two flex league. I'm planning to take best wide receiver available in round one and then
aim for Travis Etienne or Derek Henry in round two. Where would you go in round three? I'm scared of a
lot of wide receivers in this range, and I'm not sure if I should reach on running back. Remember,
this is not just a three receiver league. It's also two flexeses and it's half PPR. So let's say he takes,
uh, at the one six, he gets Jamar chase second round. He gets Travis ETN or Derek Henry.
What do you do in round three? I would lean receiver, but you know, again, I don't want
to reach for somebody that I'm not comfortable with. So we we've seen James cook fall to this
range. Isaiah Pacheco fall to this range. I don't mind great.
Yeah.
Sorry.
Go ahead, Jamie.
No, the tight ends are in the range, you know, so doesn't that change?
Does that change though with the extra flex?
Like now we're three receivers and two flexes.
That's when I start dropping tight ends like around for me anyway.
You do it too.
Yeah.
But again, I think the difference makers are still difference makers, you know, so, you
know, we talked about it yesterday.
We don't think they're difference makers like they used to be.
We don't think Kelsey is.
You said that.
I thought you agreed that you don't see someone getting 16 points.
No, no, no.
I don't think we're getting a 16-point-per-game guy,
but I would still be very happy to get one of the 14-plus-point-per-game guys,
which I think Kelsey and Laporta and McBride and Andrews are.
Now, again, if you think they're all close,
then you shouldn't reach for Kelsey or Laporta in the third round.
No, no.
I agree with what you're saying, Jamie.
If I have to start potentially five wide receivers or four running backs,
it's hard for me to go.
But my point is, though,
why would you reach for someone that you don't like as opposed to at least
getting a starter that is going to contribute at a very high level?
I wouldn't do that.
I would have to like the receiver.
I would never reach.
I don't reach.
Adam would never reach in a draft, and he's never finished in the last place.
That's why I've never finished last.
Jamie, what were you saying, Jamie?
So what are you doing now?
I think just the idea would be is if you're not comfortable with the receivers
and you've got to play out the draft in your head,
then you probably shouldn't be taking Etienne or Henry in round two.
Well, here's – okay, so I went back.
I looked at Fantasy Pro's half PPR ADP over the last two seasons. And I looked at picks 30 through 39. And I guess for this exercise, I could have gone a little bit earlier because some of those guys will fall to 30. But this is that and then and then okay, I looked at I looked at more like 30 through like 42. I think I looked at 13 players in each year. There was only one wide receiver
that finished higher than wide receiver 12
that was drafted.
And that was a total of five, one year,
13 wide receivers.
A.J. Brown was the only one.
That was two years ago.
And that was drafted, what was the criteria again?
Like 30 to 42-ish.
Okay.
So mid to late round three
into round three.
Some might say it's a dead zone.
No, just kidding.
No, it's just,
you know,
and some of them
were probably that good per game.
Like Keenan Allen,
for example,
he just kept getting hurt.
So, like,
I'm not saying
they were all bad picks,
but you get a,
DK Metcalf in that range last year.
Debo Samuel was good.
He was wide receiver 13 overall.
Amari Cooper was wide receiver 17,
but you also had Joe Mixon who was RB seven.
You had Jameer Gibbs who was RB 10.
You had Aaron Jones who was terrible.
Damian Pierce who was terrible.
Ken Walker who was solid.
You had Brees Hall last year.
It's RB three.
I'm going to do a lot of work on this over
the weekend because as we do these position previews for running back and receiver, I want
to push back a little bit on the idea that wide receivers in this range are safer than running
backs. I think that's probably true in the first round. I don't think it's true in the third round.
There are a lot of really bad wide receiver picks over the last couple of years in this round.
And remember, we're pushing running backs down down so you're getting better talent in that
range even more than you and we used to so yeah that's that's that's yes a point that i will
and this goes back to the email take two receivers and then you get your running back in round three
could do that yeah but do you yeah would you pass up on etn for like jaylen waddle or olave
olave 100 waddle i don't have ranked as high but again if you know that the board is going to push
pacheco and cook and rashad white and those type of guys into round three by comparison to let's say Brandon Ayuk and Mike Evans, then yes, I would be happy to do that.
Okay. All right. Let's get to this one.
This is a don't have, Oh, wake up 23.
You were talking about the new kickoff rule, what to do as far as scoring.
I'm the commissioner in several leagues. Last couple of years,
I've added a three points for every 25 return yards to the DST,
and that made the kickoff more exciting. But this year, I opened my leagues for the season,
and I noticed that the DSTs are projected to score as much as the likes of McCaffrey and Jefferson.
So I changed it to one point for every 25 yards,
and it evened out the scoring.
So this was just a suggestion of adding one point for every 25 yards.
Kick returns.
I don't think punt returns for DSDs.
What does the fishbowl have?
One for every 10?
Yes, if not five.
Okay.
I think it might be once every five.
And I got Cordero Patterson with my second to last pick. I was pretty pumped about that. Wow. Okay. I think it might be once every five. And I got Cordero Patterson with my second
to last pick.
I was pretty pumped
about that.
Wow.
Yeah.
Cody,
in the hometown
of the world's
tallest man
to ever live.
Wow.
I mean,
the world's tallest
man to ever live
recorded.
Well,
also the world's
tallest liar based on how the picture looks is Adam. Well, also, the world's tallest liar
based on how the picture looks is Adam.
Yeah, exactly.
10-team PPR
redraft. We're switching to a three-keeper league.
There's no cost associated
with the keepers, but you can't
keep anyone drafted in the first three rounds.
That's 30 picks. You can't keep
more than one at any position.
So that means you are basically forced to keep a quarterback or a tight end,
if not possibly both.
I will treat the first two picks like redraft,
but how much do you then prioritize youth or projectability starting in the
fourth round?
Is it closer to redraft or more like dynasty?
Close to redraft for me.
It's probably,
it's definitely closer to redraft for me,
especially because if you play it like redraft,
you're still going to get a shot at some good young talent at tight end,
specifically late in drafts.
Um,
and even to some extent that quarterback for more tight end.
So I,
I would definitely play it closer to redraft.
Orchids of Asia says great show.
You come for the great fantasy advice and stay to see if Adam gets hit with
voter fraud.
What's that one on?
I signed up for two different email addresses for podcast awards.
I was rigging them.
You know, ever since you won that best male podcast host award, it's really gotten to your head.
I did not win that award.
That is like none of that is true.
It's not the category.
And we didn't win.
But the dance point, once you were nominated, it really changed.
It was the best male
hosted show. They separated the
podcast into male hosted and female
hosted. It had nothing to do with the actual host.
That's what it actually was, but that's not what you said it was.
That is of course what I said it was. Everyone else
said it was best male host.
I'm in a PPR league that gives you a point
for a first down. How much does this
bump up running backs?
A lot.
Yeah.
I think I forgot.
It was something like
there were 30 players
who recorded 60 or more
first downs last year
and 23 of them
were running backs.
It's a running back stat.
And McCaffrey
is unbelievable.
He,
he had like 30 more first downs than anyone else last year.
Cause he gets the receiving ones too.
Uh,
Joe and Detroit pick a keeper Rashad white in the eighth.
It's PPR Rashad white in the eighth Drake London in the sixth or McCaffrey
in the first is the third overall pick.
Rashad white.
I think I'm going Drake London eighth.
Yeah, I'll take Rashad White.
Yeah, Drake London eighth.
I bet London in the sixth and White in the eighth.
What did you say?
It's London in the sixth and White in the eighth.
Oh, sorry, sorry.
I'm going Rashad White.
Okay.
All right, YouTube, I got about three minutes here
because Dan's late for a meeting.
Really late for a meeting.
You don't have any minutes.
What's that? Are you going to show up in this meeting? It's a content meeting and
you've, you've kind of started writing for the site as of last week, Adam.
Are you interested in writing some more? The same answer to, are you going to show up for the meeting?
I just want to put it on there. There's a lot of talk about my vacation days and all sorts of
stuff.
But, you know, when you ask Adam to give you a little bit of writing, it always comes with a caveat.
Oh, I'm struggling here.
This took me four hours.
I hated every minute of it.
Here's a word, Doc.
You do the rest.
Yeah, it's true.
It's true.
Who's your number one DST?
Mateo wants to know.
I forgot.
Let me go check.
I haven't looked at it in a while.
I'm not sure who my number one DST is.
It's a bad answer by us. I'd go with the Jets.
Is it the number one DST, the Jets?
I feel like they have a great early season schedule
after the 49ers in week one.
I was thinking Niners,
but I don't know if I even want Niners.
I have the Ravens first.
Ravens without McDonald.
I don't know if I want that.
And Patrick Green and Stone, Gino Stone, right?
They lose a lot of guys on D, but they still should be pretty good.
Jets start with the Niners.
Then they're at the Titans, Patriots, Broncos at Minnesota.
So I would go with the jets,
I guess.
And I'm,
I'm thinking maybe they get a couple of return touchdowns.
Yeah.
Uh,
let's see.
This is a question from David trying to trade Jacobs and a 26 first and
second for Brees hall.
What are your thoughts?
Jacobs and a 26 first for Brees hall and second and second.
I'm not high on this idea.
It's too much.
Yeah, I think it's too much as well.
Too much for a running back, right?
Like if it were the equivalent.
Oh, if this was Chase, yes, I'm in.
All right, let's see.
I'm waiting for other questions to come in.
Oh, Houston is a sneaky DST.
They could be really good this year.
Absolutely.
Packers, I can't. I'm not going to put them up there. They have a new coordinator,ST. They could be really good this year. Absolutely. Packers, I can't.
I'm not going to put them up there.
They have a new coordinator, though.
That could help.
All right.
I'm sorry.
We are honestly out of time and not getting any questions.
Thank you very much to everybody for watching and listening.
Hit that like button, subscribe,
and we'll talk to you on Monday
with another edition of Fantasy Football Today.
Actually, if you are just watching the show,
you'll see our running back preview part one
on Sunday night.
That's going to publish in the audio feed on Tuesday.
But we will have a show on Sunday.
Later.
We'll see you later.
