Wow.
Welcome to Fantasy Football Today bonus podcast.
Devante Adams to the Raiders.
We've been waiting around.
If you're wondering, hey, where's that third episode that you do every week?
We've been waiting and waiting for the Deshaun Watson news to break.
And we said, all right, we're either going to do a show when Watson gets traded
or we're going to wait until 10 a.m. on Friday morning
and just do a show, a mailbag and tight end stuff and all that.
And then this comes out of nowhere.
Devontae Adams traded for two picks,
including a first rounder to the Las Vegas Raiders.
And I don't even know where to start.
Should we start with the quarterbacks or wide receivers here or tight ends?
I think we should start with Derek Carr
because he's the only person in this whole thing
who might actually,
the only person who matters,
who might actually increase in value.
Okay, well, let's just start with that take.
100% right.
Disagree.
What about the Packers running backs?
I haven't moved them. Don't i'm gonna move them still too much of a situation
i don't think this if you score 10 fewer touchdowns this season is it really better for the packers
running backs how about you're gonna pay your quarterback 50 million dollars a year to hand
off to two different running backs. You know there's still one
outcome in this whole thing that could just
make me so happy.
Dr. Strange here. There's
one way this could go amongst
the multitude. Gardner Minshew converts
to wide receiver?
That's got to be what you're thinking.
Juju is still available.
If they sign Juju
and just put him in the Devontae Adams role
and throw it to him 160 times, that would be fantastic.
Yeah, that's not going to be as good as what Devontae Adams did, though.
Probably not.
That would be great for fantasy, sure.
Any receiver that's going to get 160 targets, I feel good about.
So let me say this, Dave.
I thought you were done.
I apologize. If you look at Aaron Rodgers,
he's played six games over 2019 and 2020.
He played six games without Devontae Adams.
He has been incredible.
He has scored 31 or more fantasy points
in six-point-per-passing touchdown leagues
in four out of six games
and 22 or more in five out of six games.
The first game, way back in 2019 against Dallas was a dud nine fantasy points.
Since then, he's been 22 and then 31 or more.
I don't know how.
I don't know why, but he has been fantastic without Devante Adams.
So, all right, let's start with this.
Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr?
It's rogers well we're i'm saying
it's rogers now with the idea that the packers are definitely going to do other things yes
if they go in with with amari rogers and alan lazar and even mvs and Randall Cobb. And Robert Tunyon.
They'll re-sign him.
He's not done yet.
Yeah, then it would be Carr.
But with the expectation that either... There's like three guys.
They need to go get Jarvis or Juju or...
Is there anybody left that can stretch the field?
MVS?
I assume they'll sign MVS back.
Yeah, the fact that he hasn't signed yet
might be a sign that he can recouple in Green Bay.
They will now have the 22nd and 28th picks in the first round.
It's a very good draft for wide receivers,
and it's possible that if they take one in the
first round, which they haven't done in about 20 years
with Javon Walker,
if they take a wide receiver in the first round, he
might be our favorite
pass catcher on the Packers.
Do you see
them taking both of
their firsts and trying to move
up to pick up
one of the top four receivers oh my gosh look at
this call by our viewers will fuller will he's going we've already decided and i'm sorry you
didn't watch last week or earlier this week will fuller has already been signed by the team that
deshaun watson agrees to be traded to what about about Julio? How about Julio? This Julio call from Julio.
100%.
He would be good for eight games with Aaron Rodgers.
Sure.
So you guys are both saying Rodgers right now
with the idea that the Packers will do something to upgrade.
Hold on.
Just to give you some ideas on other receivers who might,
this is capital M, might be available
because they've got a high cap charge this year
and the team that has these wide receivers right now might be willing to move on from them.
Michael Thomas in New Orleans, he did restructure, so the Saints don't have to move him.
He's not that bad against the cap.
What about Tyler Lockett?
Weren't we hearing rumors about Tyler Lockett being available after Russell Wilson got dealt?
How about him catching passes from Aaron Rodgers?
I would like that a lot.
Robert Woods, now that
Allen Robinson has signed with
LA. Who knows when we're going to react to that?
That's another receiver.
OBJ's a free agent. No trade necessary.
The Packers won't have to give up anything for him.
They just got to wait for him to be healthy.
Brandon Cooks in Houston
could be available for the right price.
Robbie Anderson in Carolina. If the Packers want to pay that contract.
DJ Moore.
DJ Moore.
No.
He's playing on a cheap deal, but he's going to want to get paid.
The Brandon Cooks one was the bridge.
Brandon Cooks is the guy who said he was not going to accept any more trades for the rest of his career.
That was the bridge to these things are not going to happen or don't matter. Heath, aaron rogers comes calling and says brandon i want to play with you it's really
cold he's coming he'll be there i do not i'm not so sure about that davis mills are good friends
i mean devonta adams just chose derrick car over aaron rogers so i'm not sure why we think aaron
rogers is some great appeal how about one more more receiver? This will make, this will make Adam's day.
Kenny got him.
So look,
there's a few,
few things better than being Aaron Rodgers.
Number one receiver.
You get a ton of targets,
you get a great quarterback and you get a ton of red zone targets year after
year.
It,
you know,
the number one receiver for the Packers,
not necessarily year after year,
but most just about every year with Aaron Rodgers is among the NFL leaders
in red zone targets and touchdowns of course, come with that. Now, let's talk about Devontae
Adams, who was probably one or two for everybody. This is a guy who three of the last four years
has at least 111 catches. Obviously, he's arguably the best wide receiver in football. It's rare.
We're going to really see, I think, how good, well well we're going to get a different idea of how good he is because
his numbers might drop and
you never know if it's the quarterback
is it the wide receiver but obviously he's a tremendous player
but he was one or two for
everybody I assume where is he now
Heath where are you thinking and again
everything's subject to change this happened
a half hour ago this is our first gut reaction
where are you thinking you're going to rank
Devontae Adams?
I've narrowed it down.
I think it's eight, maybe nine, but somewhere in the seven, eight, nine range.
He'll still be a number one wide receiver.
He'll still be probably an early third round.
Sounds good to me.
Maybe you go late second, two, three turn, but it's really going to be interesting.
Like, does this just completely destroy hunter renfro and
darren waller because he has i think 318 targets over his last 30 games as a packer nobody gets
the ball that much and now he's going to a place where they have more talented pass catchers around
him so i'm concerned that he won't be a top five wide receiver i still expect him to
be top 12 though yeah can you just not jump around to renfro and waller yet okay well we have eric we
have davante adams businesses to put aside first how about you dave where are you on i have a bad
habit of that that's you got a lot because you want to try and quantify why one receiver is placed where you have them in your rankings and how that impacts the other ones.
There's a constant domino effect when it comes to fantasy football and rankings, just like there is in the NFL when somebody gets traded.
And I kind of like to say everything that I have to say in a matter of 15 to 20 seconds.
You jump off now.
Thanks.
All right, Dave, how about you?
Where do you have Devontae Adams?
I've got him eighth in full PPR
and 10th in non-PPR.
I do not believe he will be as good with Derek Carr
as he was with Aaron Rodgers.
I know, big shocking statement.
I also don't think he'll get quite as many targets.
He's going to get a ton of targets.
There's no doubt about it,
but I'm going to pull a Heath here.
Look at who else is in the Las Vegas passing game and look at who Derek Carr already has established trust with
in that passing game. As long as the Raiders aren't moving on from Waller or Renfro,
those guys are going to get targets too. And it's going to be really hard for teams to figure out
who to cover in the red zone and i think waller was that guy
forever now that adams is there it's going to be adams and that means that waller has a chance to
really shine this coming year in the red zone okay so i know heath is moving waller down
dave it doesn't sound like you're not you You like this? I'm not moving him up.
He's going to stay at four for me.
Heath, you have him six?
Maybe seven.
He'll be in that six, seven, eight, nine range.
I just don't know.
How many passes do we think Derek Carr is going to throw?
It's a Josh McDaniels offense,
so I would assume 20% of them are going to running backs.
If 30% are going to Adams,
a lot of Waller's value has been a huge number of targets,
and I'm not sure he's going to get those anymore.
He also was very much better without Henry Ruggs,
and I don't know if that was just coincidence or not,
but
that's obviously
Henry Ruggs. This is Devontae Adams.
Six and a half targets a game.
Too high for Waller?
I don't think so.
No.
It's 111 on the year.
I'm assuming he said selfie.
No, that sounds about right.
And so at the very best, as far as an expectation,
you should expect seven or eight touchdowns on 111 targets.
Agreed.
Okay.
So how about, I mean, when's go back to davante adams you say you have
an eighth tenth around there so who's ahead of him digs is ahead of him what is aj brown ahead
of davante adams sure is yep chasen hill jefferson cup i have some numbers on Adams, if anybody is interested in this.
He played with Brett Hundley for eight games.
Brett Hundley in 2017.
And his...
I only have a 16-game pace,
so I did these notes last year.
His 16-game pace with Brett Hundley in eight games
was 92 catches, 1,086 yards,
10 touchdowns on 142 targets.
Still very, very good.
Not incredibly elite, but very, very good.
However, there was the one game this year with Jordan Love against the Chiefs.
Was it the Chiefs?
Yeah, it didn't go well for Devontae Adams.
He got a ton of targets.
Didn't have a good game.
But again, Carr is such a step up from that.
Taking Adrian Brown over is interesting.
But he's a step down from Rodgers.
Oh, of course.
Of course.
It was six catches for 42 yards
on 14 targets.
I don't really think
we can take anything
from those numbers,
but I thought I'd give them
to you just in case
you were curious.
Yeah.
I don't think he's getting
14 targets very often
from Derek Carr.
Okay.
So,
still top 10
for Rodgers,
but outside the top five.
Yeah,
I'm probably 11 on Rodgers.
Maybe 12.
Oh, I'm sorry. I meant Adams. I meant Adams, but it works for Rodgers five. Yeah, I'm probably 11 on Rodgers, maybe 12. Oh, I'm sorry. I meant Adams.
I meant Adams, but it works
for Rodgers, too. So you
have 11 or 12. And Dave, what about you with
Rodgers? 13.
13. 13. I will move him
back up once we know exactly who
he's throwing to. But for
now, it's 13. This is really
wild. And what about
the running backs? This has got to solidify Aaron
Jones's role in the passing game, which has always been good, but I feel like it could be even better
now. No. Yeah. I mean, if, if, if they really end up not adding much, then sure. But I, I still see
him being under 15 touches a game. they don't have to put it on him
anymore they're gonna work both running backs every single game well and i i do think it probably
means more catches but again like they need to add some serious talent to wide receiver, or they're going to score a lot fewer touchdowns.
Yeah.
They are, but it could be a lot more catches for Jones, maybe for Dillon, too.
Are you planning on moving
either of them up or down in your rankings?
No. Not as of now.
Comfortable with where I had them all along.
Are you planning on moving Josh Jacobs
up or down in your rankings?
Now is Brandon Bold bolden by the
way there i don't know if that's a guy who's gonna catch passes he's there he's their church key he's
gonna be the guy that fills in when somebody else gets hurt i do think that this is gonna hurt josh
jacobs in the red zone pretty clearly so haven't moved him down yet might be open to doing so
he might be in the red zone more than he's ever been.
I've got like six hours of research to do before our show tomorrow morning.
So we will talk to you all.
I'm pretty sure we're still on for 10 a.m.
And we might have a Watson trade at that point too.
So let's talk to you then.
We'll regroup.
Thanks to Dave and Heath.
