Welcome to Fantasy Football Today, Dynasty. I'm your host, Heath Cummings, joined today by Dan Schneier.
No, he was not just four-putting 18, as some have speculated in the YouTube chat, but it has been a little while since you've been here, Dan.
It's good to talk to you again. How about those Giants?
Yeah, fun weekend for the Giants. Gave us some hope for the season. It's not over yet. They've made progress that we've hoped they've made roster-wise,
and now it's just going to come down to, you know,
can they find any consistency from the quarterback position?
We'll talk a little bit about that, but I've been great, Heath.
It's been a fun start to the season so far.
A little bit rocky with the injuries that have happened around the NFL.
We've had to adjust a lot as fantasy analysts, but, you know,
I've had a lot of fun.
New show with Jacob on Thursday is Beyond the Box score.
Second show on the Express feed, if you guys want to check that out. So it's just been cool
to do more content and other things. I'm always happy to be on dynasty because this is one of the
most fun games in fantasy right now. You can tell by how many people have really embraced this
podcast because a lot of people like dynasty these days. And I got a lot of leagues that I,
that I want to talk to you about today. And a lot of, a lot of situations that have come up this
year already.
Well, and I think it's a really interesting time of year,
particularly because we've had so many older players play so well the first five weeks of the season.
And that's kind of what the theme of today's show is going to be.
What do we do with these rising vets?
There's a few of them that look like they could be league winners in 2024. They could also have absolutely zero value with one injury. And so we want to talk about both for contenders and
for like, I've got some teams that I kind of thought, you know, I need to sell a couple parts
and I'm probably going into a rebuild and now I've won a couple of weeks and it looks like I have
better players than I thought that I did. And so I'm starting to kind of question, do I just hold on to these guys? So we'll talk about
the rising vets. We're going to, of course, do some deep waiver wire ads. Dan was just lamenting
the fact that he did not add Juju Smith-Schuster in any leagues. He's only 7% rostered. And I think
he's really, really interesting on the waiver wire this week because the Chiefs aren't playing next
week. So what is the demand going to be like for Juju going into his bye week? And then we've got some
emails and tweets that we're going to answer as well. If you've got questions here in the chat,
we can answer those for you. We always start with three questions for our guest, and we must
talk about Daniel Jones. My biggest winner from last week.
It was so easy to say, wow, I was wrong.
Malik Navers can lift Daniel Jones up.
And then Jones plays like that without Navers.
Wandale Robinson's playing great.
Tyrone Tracy looks really good.
The offensive line is not terrible.
And so I wonder, because Jones has been a guy who's been better for fantasy than he has been for real life.
And he looks like a pretty good QB too right now.
But I think we pretty much entered the year, Dan, thinking this was Daniel Jones last year as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Does he have a future as a starter beyond 2024?
So I think the answer to that question is
kind of the crux of Daniel Jones and I've said this before Heath on Twitter and other places
on the podcast like you know there's three different Giants regimes have chased these
brief highs throughout the throughout the last six years with Jones because it's never been about
with Jones at least it's never been about he's on he's not capable of playing this position like
there are quarterbacks who are starting in the NFL who are not capable of playing this position. Jones flashes games like this one.
And I think this was his best game on tape. It arguably his entire career. When you consider
the context, defensive face, Mike McDonald on the road without Malik neighbors. Um, but it's,
can he do it consistently? Can he do it for any kind of stretch heat? So that will be determined
over the rest of the season. He's been pretty consistent this year besides week one, but I think this was a total step above what
we've even seen in weeks two through four, because he was working through his regressions faster.
The ball was coming out even more on time. The ball placement was so much better than it's been.
It's been, it was on the upfield shoulder or it was on, you know, the outside shoulder,
the wide receiver, for example, on the slate and throws and then the Wandale's touchdown.
So it's just a matter of, can he consistently do this? But one thing you mentioned that's really made a big difference to two things. Um, and this goes for anyone who's
investing in giants players and dynasty rest of season is one. The offensive line is even better
than you said, even better than average. The offensive line has been unbelievable really
this year from a pass protection standpoint, run blocking only good in two or five games,
but pass blocking every game really besides Minnesota. And then Brian Dable first year
calling plays. That's been the biggest difference. Dables winning the chess match against McDonald.
He's winning the chess match against Dan Quinn. He's winning the chess match. It's a lot of these
good DCs who are talented and good play callers. So I think that's the real case for the rest of
season. And you know, if he can stay healthy, he's a fantasy asset because he runs the football.
They're not afraid to run him. Like they had like six design runs for him last week.
So we talked about the rookie.
I was wrong about Malik neighbors.
Now I wasn't wrong for dynasty purposes necessarily, but for redraft, let's talk about the rookie
wide receiver.
I was right about how many rookie wide receivers right now in a dynasty league.
Would you take over Brian Thomas jr.
Who is currently a top 12 wide receiver for the 2024 season playing in a dynasty league would you take over brian thomas jr who is currently a top 12 wide receiver
for the 2024 season playing in a terrible offense i thought maybe we'd get a great stretch from him
in the second half of the season dan he just hit the ground running where does brian thomas rank
in this class amongst wide receivers now yeah you were spot on with brian thomas i'm so impressed by
what i've seen we we've featured him on beyond the box or like three times so i've got a chance
to watch a lot of his tape which is good because I can't say that
about the entire rookie class.
So maybe I'm a little biased in the sense that I've watched a lot of him, but all of
the questions that I had won his route tree at LSU have really been answered.
They've used him on a more diverse route tree.
He's been featured at times in the red zone and more importantly, his play strength, I
think is the real thing that stood out to me.
I knew he had the speed Heath. I knew he had kind of the athleticism, but his play strength is reminiscent
of, you know, Jacob mentioned this a while ago and I, and I kind of scoffed that at the time,
but like it is somewhat Josh Gordon ask it really is because there have been routes where he's
gotten to the top of the vertical route and he's one with his strength, subtle push off.
That's never going to get called in the NFL. It's going to work every time. So I think he's
kind of profiling Heath as a complete receiver. It becomes, he's definitely
behind neighbors. I think it becomes a question of Harrison or Brian Thomas jr. Um,
at this point in time, I think I'm going to take Brian Thomas jr. Over him. My concern.
Yeah. And it's not a talent based thing here. It's kind of a situation based thing.
I know a lot of people harp on Trevor Lawrence being terrible. I personally think he's going to
work through all of this stuff. And I think he can deliver the football with a lot of velocity,
accuracy, and hit all three levels. I'm still concerned about Kyler Murray, you know,
moving the offense in the way that I like to see him move the offense to the air as a thrower. Um,
so I think I'm just betting on the situation a little bit more,
but I feel like I could really come back to regret this one, Eve.
So a week ago, I actually had mentioned that Thomas had passed Roma Dunze
before this past week in my dynasty rankings.
That's the one that I thought we were going to have a discussion about.
I didn't know that we'd gotten into Marvin Harrison Jr. territory,
but I think regardless, most people would have to agree now that Navers, Harrison, and Thomas are all three top 12 dynasty-wide receivers, and hopefully at some point,
Roma Doonze gets to join them. Although it's been kind of a mixed road back for Jackson Smith and
Jigba, we've seen the risk of thinking it'll be fine next year um it's kind of been okay since then let's talk about the third one which we've got Nick Chubb
maybe coming back it's a veteran before we get to that Heath I want to correct that I still think I
want to put Harrison over him because I'm reminded in my head when I say something like that of do
you remember back like early dynasty before it was even a big thing I think I've references before
but after Juju Smith Schuster's first season, all the pieces and all the, I've
never seen, here's the list of 22 year old receivers who have had this, that, this, that,
this, that at any point, it's like Juju and two hall of famers. Like this is your dynasty wide
receiver one. And I think a lot of the times, you know, the situations can change. For example,
Marvin Harrison situation can change. there could be a different offense
there and the same thing could go for Brian Thomas so I still think I want to bet in dynasty on the
talent so I'm going to correct that but I do have him over Romo Junze who I like this tape a lot in
college and I haven't really loved what I've seen so far with the Bears I mean Juju did just score
20 fantasy points last night I don't know why we're taking shots at Juju on the show we're
going to say we were saying nice things about him.
But yes, we're in agreement then.
It's neighbors, then Harrison, then Thomas.
Then you can debate between Roma Dunzey and Xavier Worthy.
Apparently Worthy can just score once every three touches
and doesn't need volume to produce fantasy points.
I don't actually believe that.
Let's take our first break,
and then we'll get to some veteran dynasty discussion.

Aaron is in the chat.
Said Dan just moonwalked that take back nicely.
We saw the athleticism with Dan on the tennis court.
Now we're seeing that he can dance a little bit as well.
Let's talk about some rising veterans.
And I've got one quarterback.
Somebody else mentioned Kirk Cousins, who just threw for more than 500 yards somehow against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But Baker Mayfield has done this consistently pretty much all season long i think he's currently the
number two fantasy quarterback do you view him as someone like okay we've got a little spike
and temporary spike in dynasty value would be a good time to sell or baker mayfield in a one
quarterback lead could be my starting quarterback on a championship winning team.
I'm definitely more in the former there. I would like to trade him right now at his high. It's not that I don't believe in Baker. I think he's proven now that he can operate this offense well
with two different coordinators, two different coaches. I just look at that roster Heath and I'm
like, you know, Mike Evans, how much longer are we going to get out of him? And that's really his
main connection. That's really his main scores of scoring touchdowns. Godwin has proven he's back from the ACL. He
looks great this year. Um, but again, that's not, if he's your alpha one, I don't feel as
comfortable with that. Um, and so even the offensive line, they've made some good additions,
Graham Barton, and obviously Tristan Wirfs is still there, but overall, I feel like not a
Russian quarterback relies on the passing touchdown official to be high every year.
It's somebody I would trade right now.
So I had Baker Mayfield last week at QB 20.
Okay.
In dynasty.
That's and it's so hard with the names that are behind him.
Sam Darnold,
Will Levis,
Deshaun Watson,
Gino Smith. Like it's just, I take levis or watson over him that's
for sure you would take deshaun watson over baker rayfield i said there's no chance oh no chance
you would okay yeah i don't even know if i would have levis rank personally i i think it's a matter
of time before he's just like out of the nfl or like maybe a backup at best well i've got
we we put together big lists for the people dan we've got
for skylar thompson was yeah i know minus the quarterback rankings once you get the
monies of quarterbacks the nfl you're starting to get really deep into it's amazing we can't
find 30 good quarterbacks in the nfl but that's the reality well and part of the problem is that
like guy i don't know i don't know if know if Aaron Rogers is currently a good quarterback, but guys like Aaron Rogers and Matthews Defford,
like you legitimately might have one more season.
Least with Baker.
I think we're going to get a QB two seasons out of him for probably the next
three years, which gives him a little bit more value.
I think the big story though, and I don't want to bury it anymore.
It's the running back position and it's Derek Henry and James Connor and
really Alvin Kamara too.
Like these 29 year, 30 year old running backs who look like league winners right now,
we're five weeks into the season. You're a guy who always talks about, you know,
I don't really like running backs in dynasty. I build my team around quarterbacks and wide
receivers, but it's, it's running back acquisition time because you're going to need running backs to win your championship.
How interested are you in a late first for one of these guys?
Are you trying to go a pair of seconds for one of these guys?
I've got a couple of two and three dynasty teams that have Henry and Connor or Henry and Kamara.
I'm thinking maybe now I'm not selling and trying to compete. Like what,
what do you see the forecast for these older backs the rest of the season?
Yeah, that's two different. I want to hit both of those as they're both two good angles there.
And I think part of the plan, at least that I have, and I don't know if you're similar with me in dynasty, but I know that some teams I've seen you built out have been similar is yes,
you're not investing heavily your young draft picks or your redraft, or, you know, if you're
doing a draft from scratch in the running back position, you're going receiver, maybe quarterback, maybe tight end,
but then you're part of the two prong plan is you're trading for these types of guys when you're,
when you're competing, um, because they never cost all that much. I'm looking to pair two twos
personally. And I think that can get done, especially for guys like Camara, you know,
and you could, you could sell it to, to that manager. You can even look to add in like one
of your young receivers, you know, if you're, if you're over bloated at that position. So I think that's something
interesting to put in there because some of these guys like Henry, for me, you knew I was really
high on him all year. I just didn't see any way he wasn't going to score 17 touchdowns. And what
is he on pace for like 20 touchdowns or something like that? He just has to stay home. Yeah. He just
says, and that he'll never get 34, but he just has to stay healthy. And he's basically a touchdown
a week or more, um, in that offense. Um, and there's going to be games too like we saw two weeks ago
where they just run the entire offense through him because they're milking a lead and and we
also talked about that now other guys that you mentioned like the Camaras that's when it gets
a little trickier I feel like um especially now with Hayner potentially playing for an extended
period of time we don't know about but it could be um that'll kill the entire offense but i think for those guys maybe i'm looking more toward the two twos or the package
of twos for a guy like henry that's when i'm willing to maybe go up to the one the late one
or a two and a young receiver so you for the most part you're just like i do believe that these guys
can keep this up yes yeah uh another guy
you were high on i think took a victory lap and then mushed him injury i did for cup a terrible
terrible injury over the last two seasons he's got to buy this week and then we have reports
that cooper cup is coming back yep um i guess one are you interested in buying him as a contender and
then two like if you got him on a sell team and i think i've got him on a sell team and it's a
league that you have one of the best teams in the league like are you trying to deal cooper cup
before he has a chance to get hurt again i think so i think so here's the thing with cooper cup i
have to accept defeat in the cooper cop situation because I know I, my whole fantasy thing, Heath, one of my main core fantasy
principles is don't try to predict injuries. Don't try to act like we know what's going on
with injuries and understand and realize that injuries are mostly luck-based. That's how I
feel about it. But there's also the other side of the argument, which is once a receiver gets a lot
or once any player gets a lot of injuries, they can start to get buildup injuries or compensation injuries.
And we saw last season, here's the key reason I would look to trade cup early.
It, once he comes back, we saw last season that the efficiency metrics went down when he played through the injury.
Now he's going to be playing through an injury all year.
He won't have time to get fully healthy.
He's going to play when he comes back from the buy, but it's not going to be the fully healthy version of cup that we saw in
week one when he had 12 catches or whatever it was.
So I think you let it play out,
maybe a game,
maybe two games,
one breakout would be nice,
like a 10,
12 reception classic cup.
And then I do think you definitely look to trade him because we're at that
point where there will be compensation injuries and he's just had a lot of
injuries at this point.
Is two seconds the right price for cup as well?
Or do you think if he has one of those 10 to 12 catch games you can get a first i think you need a first for cup it's
a lot different for cup for me than henry and cup you can argue we'll still play potentially past
this you know past a couple seasons here i guess henry at this point is such an ageless wonder
i don't need like i said this about henry when i was saying to buy him and redraft this past
offseason i was like just don't view him as right, like when we talk about the stats of like
30 old running backs with this amount of carries, they just can't be good. Don't put Henry in that
grouping. Cause he is like the LeBron James type athlete where it's, you're such a freak athlete
and you're such a unique individual that you shouldn't be grouped in with, with those types
of trends. In my opinion, at least cup, i don't think is that example personally um maybe
i'm wrong but no i don't think he is yeah so i think you can maybe if you're if you're really
on a team that's that's uh playing for next year look for two twos and that's okay as well
that's i may be doing that like i said two and three in the baked burger dynasty league
i think that team has injured cooper cup it also has travis kelsey who looked like a complete lost cause
can we talk about the show i'm interested in both thankfully everyone on the team got hurt
and so the chiefs had no choice but to force feed kelsey and it worked out pretty well on
monday night football travis kelsey looks like he's back into it like easy first round
acquisition cost now like no only concern
for kelsey at this point after rice is out for the year brown is out for the year the only concern is
that he gets hurt right i have one other concern i thought you're gonna go in this direction the
only other concern is touchdowns i never thought this would be a concern with a patrick mahomes
offense it's become a major concern. The Chiefs, man,
they are not running the same offense they used to run with Mahomes back in the day.
I don't think they purpose, I don't think they really care about putting up that many points
unless they have to, because they have Steve Spagnuolo, who's arguably one of the best,
if not the best defense coordinators all time, and a lot of talent on the defense.
They played in that system for years. They're a dominant defense. And Mahomes had what,
27 touchdowns last year.
We all said this year, maybe he can get back to old Mahomes because he got Hollywood Brown.
He got Rasheed Rice.
Pacheco's taking a step forward.
All those guys are hurt right now.
And Xavier Worthy is just not running the full, like he's just not ready to be the guy
I was hoping he would be in year one.
Juju, I guess, is their guy now, and that's fine.
He'll move the chains to some extent
but in the red zone they run the football a lot and i think the the touchdown concern is real i
said this offseason heath like one of the main reasons i was buying kelsey was because the
touchdown regression he had gone 11 12 and 9 the three years before last year we had five
but like at this point i can't bank on that because i don't think they care about throwing
touchdowns in this offense and they're not throwing a lot of touchdowns in this offense you know what the
problem is and i don't know which broadcast you watched last night i mean obviously i had a royals
playoff game going on on one tv and i've got the manning cast going on with belichick and the
mannings and they're they're watching the game and one of them i don't remember which one says
huh it looks like naggy's calling the
plays in and that's that's a big problem i think matt naggy has maybe taken over the play calling
duties don't love to hear that like look at patrick mahomes fantasy point per game with eric
biennium and without eric biennium and that's uh there's there's a big difference but also like
in fairness to my homes and
the Kansas city chiefs, like, could someone push them just a little bit?
Yeah.
Could we give them some reason to think that they can't just continue to glide by like
this?
Because I don't know why.
No, no.
That was Spagnolo and that defense.
The answer is no, he's unbelievable.
And they just like, they lose a Jerry's need and it doesn't even matter because they coach
the DB so well. Watching that defense is so fun he calls fourth and eight he calls zero
blitz i mean just like no coordinator does that besides him and i just love to watch him do that
and it works of course and i think you've got a like a must start running back in kareem hunt
until isaiah pacheco comes back he looks good now he gets the bye week so he'll have fresh legs again
for a couple of weeks and then hopefully pacheco is back after that but you can at least start kareem hunt you can start travis kelsey you would
give up a first round pick for travis kelsey pretty happily uh that is no remember you're a
contender and we're five weeks into the season so you should know that you're not going to be
giving up a top eight pick you're not giving up a great pick, but I do actually like the upcoming class,
especially at the running back position.
We'll see if that,
we'll see if that plays out the way I think it will.
And there's receivers in that draft.
Like last year,
for example,
that last round pick for me was like Brian Thomas.
So that's not like,
you know what I mean?
Like,
it's just,
I don't think I would do it personally,
but I,
I am probably a little too clingy to my first round picks.
But you were thinking,
I'm going to, I'm looking forward to hearing what your offer is.
Yeah, we'll talk.
We'll talk.
Kelsey package.
There's also young players on my roster I'm willing to move that have some interest to you.
So let's talk a little after the pot.
I got to take a look.
And you know, that might be the absolute best use of our time here on FFT Dynasty.
Pull up your roster and do some trade negotiations I do
not have Stefan Diggs in that league I do have both Nico Collins and Tank Dell Tank Dell has
completely disappeared from the face of the earth I'm not panicking on him at all for Dynasty
purposes I'm just just hold steady we're not selling low but Diggs especially with the injury now to Nico Collins, the red zone involvement,
they're using him way too much in the running game for some reason.
But he's another guy who I think you would have easily gotten for a late second earlier.
Now looks like he might be a number one wide receiver for as long as Nico is out.
Do you buy the way that Diggs is producing fantasy points?
Because it does seem a little bit quirky.
I think it is so strongly dependent on this Nico injury,
which was first team day to day and now week to week.
That's not a good sign. I think for him coming back anytime soon,
especially soft tissue injury,
I think this could end up being a two,
three weaker,
even something that bothers him all year or reoccurs something I'm keeping
an eye on.
And I think that changes the offense.
The thing is this,
like that role that Nico Collins is playing within that slow system like i think digs can play it
actually think dell can play that role even better and they can get more production out of it
but then you also think about what slow system is based on and that's why we saw tank dell lose
snaps as aviore hutchinson this past week because he needs blockers in that's like how the 49ers
how that shanahan tree works
like you need to if you're a receiver you need to be able to block for their run game and their run
game is what the whole system is predicated on so i am concerned a little bit for dell just from
that standpoint uh and i think i am putting digs a little at him you would you give up a first for
stefan digs probably not because it's probably not two seconds two seconds i could
potentially give i mean i traded for digs in this off season in that league in the league we're
discussing the big burger i gave up my second pick of the second round i got back digs and the
eighth pick of the second round hey andrew has not caught a dynasty life in forever. It's good to have you here, Andrew.
I appreciate it.
Let's talk a little bit about the waiver wire, Dan.
It's never like super exciting on in dynasty leagues.
I generally look for guys that are 10% rostered or less.
I think that the class of it is probably Juju Smith-Schuster.
Seven catches, 130 yards.
Mahomes basically does not want to throw to any other wide receivers.
The risk here, obviously, is that Kansas City goes and acquires someone like Darius Slayton,
who I also put on the list because he just had a great game without neighbors.
But, I mean, the Gi the giants are playoff contenders,
so I don't know why they trade away.
Um, I assume even in a dynasty league, you would rather add Juju over Slayton.
Yeah.
So neighbors is enough through the concussion protocol.
I think he's going to play again.
Slayton has proven that when he needs to be that one,
he can be a fantasy contributor.
He did it last year and the last two weeks of the season,
he did it this game, but that role will dissipate once neighbors is back as far as the trade goes
yeah it is interesting the giants fall out they really should trade slayton um but they i don't
you know i haven't seen them really under joe shane make too many of those types of deadline
trades but man that would be fun because i think he could be awesome with mahomes
juju is a top 36 wide receiver rest of season top 30 so I think so
easily because I so I listened to Mahomes in the post game he's I'm not sure if you watch that and
he was like yeah Juju did it tonight but he knows and everyone knows there's going to be a different
guy every week and then I thought about in my head Heath and I was like but is it because because I
know Sky Moore can't operate the role that Juju played last night.
I know, at least I feel, that Xavier Worthy can't right now operate that role.
He did some things at Texas that made me think he could, but I just don't think he's ready yet.
It's so hard to pick up that read system, which Juju knows, right?
And so you look across the rest of that roster, Rice is probably out for the season.
Kelsey is playing a role, but not the old role.
And I think Juju is by far and away the best bet for
that role and in a Mahomes system still throwing for 300 right it's he leads the NFL in 300 plus
yard passing games not the same without the enemy I agree they don't pass as much as they do but
it's true but I really feel like he's the only guy who can operate that role so I'm really high
on Juju rest of season and i'm kind of really disappointed i
didn't get him enough in redraft well i think there are still uh you're gonna have a few
opportunities i don't believe he's been added in all of our leagues so just make sure you bid
enough because there's going to be a bidding war oh yeah or juju smith schuster jake hainer
might be the starting quarterback for the new Orleans saints. First off, how is he beaten out?
Spencer Rattler?
Why is,
why is Spencer Rattler the number three?
And we don't know for sure that Derek Carr is going to miss time,
but Hayner is a must add in a super flex league,
right?
He's a must add.
Anyone who plays at any point in a super flex league is a must add,
especially if you're in basketball,
but Carr,
I listened to him in the post game. Carr said it wasn't the hit where he got injured it was the
throw where he got injured he torqued too much into the throw that scares me a little bit i feel
like he might have pulled some in obliques in baseball just from doing fantasy baseball i know
they're like the devastating injury they could last so much longer than you hope and i've had
so many players ruined from it um football i would imagine is, is even worse. It's a harder sport to play.
So we'll see what happens there.
As far as Hayner goes, I wasn't a huge fan of him coming out of Fresno.
I thought he kept the offense on track at the college level, got the ball out on time.
These are things that can kind of work at the NFL level, but usually it's dependent on your arm. It's kind of like a Bo Nix-type profile, I would say, without the running and without the improvisational ability that Boick springs which is important so it's basically nothing for fantasy now as far as
why is he beating out rattler i just think he's had more time in the system um rattler actually
looked really impressive in the preseason right i think if hanner struggles and if cars out for a
while they will give rattler a chance but hanner has earned the right to get the first shot here
and we'll see what he can do with it rattler shouldn't be on the waiver wire in any super
flex leagues because he's a rookie quarterback, but let's just assume that they're
both out there. Are you adding Hayner over Rattler just because we think Hayner will start first,
or would you rather just have Rattler in case he gets a chance? I would only add Hayner over
Rattler if I'm desperate at quarterback and need someone to put in that position. Otherwise,
Rattler, I think is the play long-term. And I actually, you know, intriguing profile Rattler,
he was pressured on 48% of hisbacks in south carolina last year and made
a lot happen despite that really had some pretty good tape at south carolina um obviously used to
be like the number one prospect i don't know how far back you go to like debbie's type stuff
he felt like he was at one point considered the going to be the first overall pick in the nfl
draft everything went sideways for him, but still has some talent.
So I would definitely be on Rattler there.
So Rattler,
if you need somebody at the end of your bench,
Hayner,
if you are absolutely desperate for a start and somehow aren't tanking a
couple of other 1% guys,
Xavier Hutchinson saw his playing time tick up when Nico Collins went out.
I think Hutchinson could be interesting if we get an extended absence from
Nico.
He could be interesting because of what we discussed earlier.
He's like that system,
that Bobby Slocum system.
They're not,
they want guys who can get on the field and block,
and he can do that.
He is a big body receiver and he's got CJ Stroud.
And what did we see last year when there were injuries to the Texans?
Noah Brown out of nowhere puts up two monster weeks when they needed him to
because that's the system because that's cj stroud he's a phenomenal thrower of the football
um so i'm interested in him a lot he would be the number one guy i have of these guys
but behind juju oh obviously behind juju yeah that yes if he's on your wire and dynasty go all
and hutchinson did have what 107 catches 1100 yards his final year at iowa state
yeah a little bit a little bit of upside there and then there's a tight end i don't i don't know
what's going on with the ravens dan but charlie kohler outscored mark andrews for the third week
in a row he's rostered in one percent of leagues are you adding him in tight end premium you know
he's this is a funny story uh that i will bring up on this podcast real quick before we get into this.
I think people will enjoy this.
I took over a unbelievably trash team in the YOLO Dynasty League, one of my first years joining CBS Fantasy.
And one quirk that I didn't know about, and this is all my fault, I'm taking all the blame for this.
I am not blaming Heath.
I'm not blaming anyone else.
Is that once the draft starts, the rookie draft,
you cannot cut anyone from your roster.
Your roster is somehow locked.
So I was over my roster limit, and I was unable to make draft picks until I made a trade.
So I just kind of had to agree to any trade I was going to get,
and I got low-balled in my mind from Heath,
but he was the only one willing to help me out and get me out of this jam.
I'm a friend of time in need out of this draft. So I gave him Mark Andrews for two second round picks.
I consider this a horrible trade at the time for me. And you know what Heath, I feel like
I'm coming around to this one because Mark Andrews, like you said, who knows what's going
on there? Is he fully healthy? Is that the reason his role has been so much reduced?
I thought he looked pretty good on the catches he made he should had a touchdown but lamar threw it a little low
but you're right kolar is somebody who i liked a lot at iowa state and i understood when they took
him and likely i was like they got two of the best value picks at tight end in this class so i think
he's a talented player who's going to get some looks in that offense um but i don't think he's
somebody i'm interested in dynasty there's just too much ahead of him so the commish sets the funny rule and then makes the trade with the newbie interesting it is
interesting the the continuation of that story is last year i was in contention
and mark andrews suffered his injury and i dealt mark andrews away to try to win a title got giovante williams i thought you know
he's now a little further away from the acl he's going to start getting better i finished i lost
in the championship game giovante williams didn't do anything in the championship game i was very
i was distraught all off season that i had traded mark andrews away from giovante williams i'd much
rather have giovante williams right now is right now just completely gross let's take one more question i've got a listener email i've got some tweets
we've got questions everybody wants to know what you think about the jets head coach situation dan
and just know i know you're happy that the giants are not the least functional team
in new jersey right now we'll be right back so we've had i apologize but 17 of you
have asked this question again the jets fired their head coach does it matter in any way shape
fashion or form for fantasy football do you care not i don't think it matters for fantasy football
and i'll tell you why i think the biggest issue with the jets right now is the offense that they're
running they are you would think that maybe if a team zags while they're everyone else
is zigging, it would be a good thing, but the jets are running an offense from the early two
thousands. And it's not a good thing because they're not using things like pre-snap motion.
And you could say, Oh, well, every other team is doing it. So they're not doing it. That could
give them an advantage, but no, it's been proven that using pre-snap motion is like a cheat code
for today's NFL. That's why we see all these coordinators using it. So if you're just
going to run this offense that they're running and it's really, really bad on tape, I mean,
it just looks like they just have no, they haven't looked at anything that's worked in the NFL over
the last two or three years and haven't adopted any of it. And why am I going to get excited?
Because Hackett wasn't fired. Was he? Rodgers wasn't fired, was he?
And that's not a knock on Rodgers as the quarterback.
More of a knock on Rodgers as the play caller slash designer slash.
I don't know what's going on with this offense right now.
Heath, they've scored as few points through five games
as they scored last year with Zach Wilson.
It's an astounding stat, really, considering how bad that was with Wilson.
So for fantasy purposes, I can't really go.
I mean, Robert Slaw ran a great defense with the Jets.
I think Ulbricht will run a great defense as well with the Jets.
But unless they fire Hackett and bring someone in
who's going to get through to Rodgers in the middle of the season,
which is not going to happen, I think it's the same offense.
So I do think that the hopes are that Brees Hall
sees a larger share of the work, but I have not, from the body language, gotten the idea that Aaron Rodgers wants that to happen.
So I don't have much hope there.
The second hope would be, well, maybe the Jets' defense won't be so good so I can start more players against them.
Because I don't see – we did have an email, and Braden sent it in about a week ago.
I thought it was a good point, though, because this does happen to teams.
He bought a team this offseason.
It was after the rookie draft and the 2025 first had already been traded away.
And he thought that he might have a contender, but he's now 0-4 when he sent the email.
Looking at the roster, I'm going to go ahead and say he's 0 and 5 based on what i know these guys did last
week okay so he doesn't have a first and it looks like he needs to rebuild and he can't trade any
of these pieces to get his first round pick back and he says do i still tank like what what do you
do if you don't have your first and you can't compete and he he sent the roster. It's Rogers and Bryce Younger as quarterbacks,
and it's a super flex league.
That's a disaster.
Waddle, Devante Smith, and DJ Moore are the wide receivers.
James Cook and Najee at running back,
and Evan Ingram and Isaiah Likely at tight end.
I don't know what your initial thought here is, Dan.
My thought is you need to prepare for a two year rebuild.
This is at least a two year rebuild for sure.
But the question is,
which makes it really tricky.
I think he is like,
you don't have your first round pick.
So there's no real point to trade away from that standpoint of like,
or I'm sorry to tank from the standpoint of like,
what are you going to do with your pick?
You're not setting a bad lineup on purpose.
You're not setting a bad lineup. I. You're not setting a bad lineup.
I do think though that like,
you still have some pieces at receiver
that you can move for draft picks
to try to really get this thing going
because you're just not going to be,
this team is impossible.
It's impossible for this team to be competitive
for a very long time.
I don't think two years,
maybe even three years.
So with that in mind,
guys like DJ Moore,
guys like Devante Smith,
Devante Smith less so,
but guys like DJ Moore,
for example, in two, three years, where are they like Devante Smith, Devante Smith less so, but guys like DJ Moore, for example,
in two, three years, where are they going to be
and what's going to be their dynasty stock?
That's a question you should be asking yourself.
And will that be more valuable than what you can get in the first or second round?
Even if it's down the line, like I would look to trade for picks
in the two drafts from now, not even the 2025 draft, the 2026 draft.
That's when I'd start to look to build capital there,
especially because 2026
could have arch manning it could have nico i am 11 so you have potential like league winning type
super flex picks there i think that all makes sense i um and maybe you might even be able to
turn like assuming that you do finish in last place and you have the first pick in round two
this year you might be able to turn that into a 2026 first. Yes. If you could do that, I'd love to do that.
I would hold on to Jalen Waddle.
I would hold on to Devante Smith.
I would not give James Cook away.
Like I, you're going to have to make me really happy with that offer.
If you're going to take James Cook from me, but if I could get a second for
Najee, he's gone.
If I'm hoping that we get one good game from Aaron Rogers, because mostly You're going to take James Cook from me. But if I could get a second for Najee, he's gone.
I'm hoping that we get one good game from Aaron Rodgers because mostly any starting quarterback in a super flex league
will get you a first-round pick.
I'm not sure Aaron Rodgers would today.
So I'm probably holding him.
I'm hoping we get one good game from Evan Ingram,
and then I'm trying to turn him into a second-round pick.
And if you could go into next year with maybe a couple of 2025 first,
two or three 2026 first,
then I'm feeling a lot better about the future.
But,
but the main thought,
and some people just can't stomach this.
Some people don't like a one year rebuild.
Yeah.
You got to be focused on the two.
That's why I'm saying, I think you, you really lean into trying to get those 2026 picks because people value them
less in trades it's just like the natural human nature like you're more willing to give like last
year i traded tony pollard for a first round pick that's coming it was two years ahead it'll be this
one and i and i love that trade at the time and i think he would have never considered the first
rounder in the coming year because he's trying to win now. NFL Robbie on Twitter had sent a list.
He wanted to basically talk about the thing that the show was already about today.
That's the price tag for all these veterans, but he had some others.
So I'm just going to go through and we'll just do price tag only.
Joe Mixon.
Two seconds.
One second.
Joe Mixon. Two seconds. One second. Joe Mixon, two seconds, one second.
It's two seconds, I think, still.
As long as he comes back and is healthy the rest of the year,
he's going to be a valuable asset in that offense.
What about a different angle, Joe Mixon or Tajay Spears?
Just straight up?
Yeah.
This is where it gets interesting.
I would go Joe Mixon, personally.
Okay.
But if you're the rebuilder, would you take Tajay Spears for Mixon?
Oh,
if I'm in the rebuilding mode,
I,
I,
I'd rather have the draft picks than Tajay Spears at this point.
Remember that he still has that degenerate,
like that knee issue that like how to draw a drop so much in the draft.
So long-term,
I'm still not thrilled about it.
David Montgomery.
You'd rather have him or mix in rest of season.
Dynasty wise.
I love my boy,
Dave Montgomery.
I'm going to go Dave montgomery i've been such a
truther of him for so long yeah i and still you're not getting a first though it's it's two seconds
terry mcclure and has had two good games in a row the connection looks really good with jayden
daniels i'm still a little bit skeptical that he's going to be a reliable fantasy starter all year
i think there's going to be it's going to be kind of like old Tyler Lockett.
And I don't mean young Tyler Lockett, but old Tyler Lockett before this year.
Like a wide receiver three who has some wide receiver one weeks
and some wide receiver seven weeks.
Would you give a first for McLaurin?
I don't think I would give a first for McLaurin,
but I'm intrigued by that idea.
I think I would lean toward where you're at with it for the main reason being I don't know I would give a first for McLaurin, but I I'm intrigued by that idea. I think you're, I would lean toward where you're at with it for the main reason being,
I don't know if the touchdowns again was something we always forget.
I feel like we don't factor in as much as we should in fantasy is this is still a game
that's decided by touchdowns.
They're worth six points.
They're worth almost everything.
It's why I was so high on guys like Henry and McLaurin and Daniels.
They haven't connected yet.
They've been close on that, on, on a couple of touchdownss McLaurin dropped one that he should have caught obviously then he stopped at
the goal line but generally speaking right now I don't feel like that offense is designed to throw
for too many touchdowns this year and they'll throw for some but it's going to be a lot of
running touchdowns between Jaden and between the running back especially Brian Robinson so
for that I'd say no for the one we finally got got a Brandon Iuke week. And so I think,
does that lower the price of Debo and George Kittle? Those were the last two names. I would
rather buy Kittle than I would Kelsey. And so I think I would give a first for Kittle. I'm not
sure I'm giving a first for Debo though. I don't know what the odds are that he's on this team next year um two seconds for Devo I would give a first
for Devo personally I think so I agree with you I don't think he's going to be on the 49ers I think
there's the cap situation has pretty much solidified that after they signed Ayuk but I think whoever
does sign him Heath is going to be or if they trade him is going to be able to use him in a
similar way or will have designs in mind to use him the similar way to the, how the 49ers have used him as a weapon. So I still
think he's worth that. And he's still young enough. Kittle is I'm less sure of because
Kittle's game to me, it's amazing, but it can fall off at any point because it's such a physical
player and he's such a good blocker and use so much as a blocker that I think the injuries could,
could really pile up at any point. So that's the one I'm less interested in trading a one for.
Are there any of those guys that we've talked about as buys for the contenders
that you don't necessarily view as sells?
Like you think they might still be good.
Like I don't, I'm not super excited about thinking about
what Derrick Henry is going to be next year.
And I know, haha, I said that this year,
but still he'll be a 31 year old running back.
I'm not going to be super excited about that.
I'm not going to be super excited about Kelsey or cup beyond this year.
Any of these guys that we've talked about that you think,
you know,
they've probably got two to three good years after this.
Um,
that,
so the opposite of guys,
I,
not the guys that I don't think like the opposite of what you just said,
correct.
I'm just saying like,
yes.
Are they the guys that like,
I'm maybe I'm not selling.
I'd like to just hold them because I think they'll be good for the next few years.
Okay.
Give me the list again or where do I have it handy?
So we've talked about Baker Mayfield.
We've talked about Kirk Cousins.
We've talked about Derrick Henry.
We've talked about James Connor, David Montgomery, Joe Mixon, Cooper Cupps,
Stefan Diggs, Terry McLaurin Travis Kelsey George Kittle did I
just remember all those just memory I'll go McLaurin top of the list and maybe this is making
me come back to it and consider giving up the first for him honestly it's because I think it's
possible that he builds a rapport with one quarterback and that's important to me in dynasty
especially if that quarterback is super talented like Jaden Daniels is so he would top of the list
for sure for me from that uh group again I've come back to it it's crazy but i'm putting henry on that list i
i just come back to the same same logic that i had before i don't i think there are some human
beings him lebron james who are just at a different level of athlete and shouldn't be grouped with
like the trends of like 30 old running backs who have this many carries it etc etc because
i watch him like the run he had two weeks ago,
that long touchdown run Heath that no one should be able to do that at 30
years old and 250 pounds.
Like no one can do that at 30 years old.
I, no one really does that at 22 and 250 pounds.
Besides like Brandon Jacobs back in the day when he was first a rookie,
like guys like that.
So again, he's another one.
I would add to that list though.
I am sure at
some point this this the chair is going to fall out on me heathen it's going to be ugly well it's
going to but it's you've already earned it like the what you by never jumping off yeah like you've
already gotten so much profit that i don't think you have you feel bad whenever the chair falls
out from under you so this was interesting i thought alex sent this in 14 team league he traded dj moore a late 20 we don't know so a
2025 second and a 2026 first so dj moore a 2025 second and a 2026 first for breese hall
now i thought it was interesting because i have breece hall on a dynasty team in
a league with you where you have dj moore so if i sent you breece hall and you have bijan robinson
so you could have the two most exciting backs in dynasty that don't score fantasy points
would you trade dj moore a 2026 first and a 2025 second for Brees Hall?
I'm intrigued by it because generally speaking, I like to be on the side of trading the picks.
I think the picks are, it's just like the NFL draft.
I feel like the picks are more valuable when you're viewing them down the line, like more valuable in your mind before they actualize.
But I just can never give up that much capital for a running back in dynasty.
It's just not for me.
Um, brace hall, super talented back already has one ACL tear.
Um, I don't really know the future for the jets at the quarterback position and how they're
ever going to figure that out.
Given where they're at as a franchise that could continue to make the offense super ugly.
He has scored in ugly offenses.
That's true.
Maybe he's even better. You could argue, in ugly offense,
like a Zach Wilson-type quarterback.
So it's possible.
I would do it, Heath.
Okay, here's when I would do it.
I would do it if I'm a team that's built to contend now, like right away.
And I assume this is, right?
Because he's trading away his picks and DJ Moore.
I'm okay with it if you're playing for the now.
Just know that this is a big, you're giving up a lot of your future capital
for a running back,
which is generally speaking a risky move in Dynasty.
And it may be that they have the same,
like Hall and Moore have the same length of career left.
Hall is significantly younger than Moore.
They might both have four years left.
10-team salary cap league.
He's had Josh Allen for the last several years,
but his salary is now the highest on his
team 226 dollars out of a thousand and it's a one qb league he also just acquired jayden daniels
this year for 25 he wants to know should he trade josh allen for an rb1 travis etn's his best
running back and what running back would you target with josh allen
i would trade him for a wide receiver one that's where i well he he is stacked another 10 team
league sure stacked at wide receiver etn's his best running back okay um so what's the kind of
dynasty running back we can get back for him so i think one guy you can try to go for right now
potentially is jameer gibbs because he hasn't scored a lot yet this season. You can argue the case that David Montgomery
is still there. You can, you can play that in the trade talks. Um, but he's still somebody
from an asset standpoint, that is a great pie in dynasty. You're, you're potentially winning now,
but also you're getting somebody for later. Greece Hall is an interesting pick for this
type of example, right? We just discussed him a little down on him, but for a player like Allen, it's possible you can get that through. Do you go down to like
James Cook? Is that, is that, would that intrigue you? Would you trade a Josh Allen for James Cook?
Heath, is that going too far down that rabbit hole? So I have James Cook ranked ahead of Josh
Allen in my one QB dynasty rankings. And that was last week. And honestly, I guess this is maybe a good one to finish on.
And I'll just get,
put you on the spot.
Like who scores more fantasy points,
rest of season,
Jaden Daniels or Josh Allen.
That's a great one.
I think me and you were the two lowest on Josh Allen preseason of anyone I
saw.
And some of what I expected to be the reason for his low scoring has
happened.
I did not personally believe in the Joe Brady offense.
I know it worked a little bit down the stretch, but it was mostly just run based.
And that's not good for fantasy.
And Josh Allen kind of was unbelievably efficient in the red zone as a runner, which we're not seeing as much as here.
Cause that was obvious regression.
So I don't buy that cheat, that Bill's passing offense, really taking a huge step forward in season Heath.
So I'm going to go Jade and Daniels.
Like if he gets injured, that ruins everything, obviously. But as long as he stays healthy, he's on this team
with the second best EPA on offense this year. I had to give Cliff Kingsbury his flowers. I was
very harsh on him throughout a long, for a long time Heath. But again, like I said earlier on,
on beyond the box score, apparently that trip to Thailand has really changed some things for him
because he's figuring out how to run an NFL offense better than I've ever
seen him.
So I would take Jaden.
So,
all right.
I thought that we were finishing up,
but this,
this just opens up another can of worms.
Okay.
What's that?
Cause I,
I think I agree with you.
Yeah.
But Jaden Daniels is 22 years old.
Josh Allen's 28.
If we'd rather have Jaden Daniels rest of season is jayden daniels the dynasty qb1
well that's when it gets a little bit more interesting i think i would still take allen
over him in dynasty i think the reason for that is jayden daniels for me while he's playing amazing
football right now heath my major concern with jayden daniels was always this had nothing to do with how he's going to play football it was always the history
of quarterbacks at his size right and we're talking about sub 200 realistically i know for
the combine he got over like to 205 or whatever it was but it was fake weight sub 200 quarterbacks
you can see it when you watch him he's a slender build sub 200 quarterbacks the The history is unbelievably slim. It's been like four goods. I broke this down on one of our
dynasty pockets. It's been like four total good season. Three of them were Jeff Garcia seasons.
And then like, uh, three of them were cousins and one was like a Jeff Garcia season. So he can be
an outlier for sure, but I don't want to bank on him staying healthy his whole career with the
style that he plays. So I will bank on Josh Allen at 28 over him at 22.
I do think that's definitely going to be the consensus.
That's definitely how I have it ranked right now.
I wouldn't be surprised when I update the rankings tomorrow,
if Jaden Daniels passes Patrick Mahomes.
But the difference is it's much, yes,
it's much easier for me to see Patrick Mahomes having several QB1 seasons in his 30s than it is for me to see Josh Allen having several QB1 seasons in his 30s.
We've just not seen players who score fantasy points like Josh Allen has do that.
And maybe he's just like, I don't know how he came back into the game last week.
Maybe he's just indestructible and that you you can't hurt josh ever i think it's true um but this this was the
year of cam's career where he was no longer indestructible and then after that he was hurt
every single year yeah um so i and one thing to add to that, Heath, and I know you talked a lot about this in
the off season for redraft and it, it proved is like how much of Josh Allen's value from
fantasy has been tilting toward from the rushing, which again, and, and tilting away from the
passing toward the rushing, which again, is not sustainable.
Like you just brought up with the cam Newton example.
The question I maybe should have asked and probably will be reflected in my updated rankings tomorrow again you can always find those on the dynasty landing page
you can find the trade charts over on sportsline lamar jackson might be dynasty qb1 i've got him
projected for that i got him projected for five more fantasy points than any other quarterback
this week yeah i can't wait to see jayden daniels against lamar jackson and the show they are going
to put on how is this not an island game or at least a four o'clock game it's stuck at one o'clock with 17 other games
you know they could i'll tell you why um because our network refused to allow it uh they had they
didn't want to lose that game they didn't want to lose uh that game so i believe the giants and
bangles are the one that held it for this sunday night so we get to watch the giants and bangles
instead of that amazing that'll be a great game as well the giants giants have a better i don't know how
the bangles are favored the giants have a better record yeah but okay that was probably too far
daniel jones is 1 13 in prime time in his career so he'll have to buck that trend for remember the
kirk cousins prime time narrative he just threw for 500 yards yes yes yes he did and that's the next that's the day daniel jones throws for 500 yards heath you may
not even uh you may have to just like block me on twitter the next day just a full block not even a
mute just a block uh that has been fantasy football today dynasty dan thank you so much for being here
it's always a good time i thank you to everybody who was in the chat.
You know, I should have done one more chat question.
I apologize for that.
We've got one more minute here, don't we, Dan?
Do it.
Russ, a full participant at practice this week is what's expected for him.
Do you think Russell Wilson takes the starting QB one job for the Steelers,
or do you think Justin Fields keeps it?
I think Justin Fields gives them a better chance to win.
I also think Justin Fields,
when I watched the game on Sunday night and I only watched broadcast,
I didn't get a chance to watch the film of that game was wildly off target
on a lot of throws and wildly off time on a lot of throws.
And drops the ball,
just drops the ball in the toe.
So often just in the pocket,
the ball just falls out of his hand.
I don't know what's going on with Justin Fields from that standpoint,
but I just know that people still weirdly think he gives them the best chance to win.
That's partially because I'm much lower on Russ than other people are.
I think part of why he looked competent last year was Sean Payton, to be honest,
now that we're seeing Bo Nix look somewhat competent with Sean Payton.
I think he's a good quarterback, and he's proven that over his career.
I bet George Pickens would like to see Russell Wilson.
You know, George Pickens.
I I'm just,
I love him as a talent.
I just don't like,
like,
did you see what Stewart's players were saying about him?
Like not like net mentioning him,
but like Pat Fryer move.
And some of the comments from Mink and Fryer move this week,
they were essentially calling him out without saying his name.
Like you got to block,
you got to play,
you got to want it all.
Like,
and then he plays,
you know,
37 snaps or whatever it was.
So I guess he would probably like him though. Cause got to want it all. And then he plays 37 snaps or whatever it was.
So I guess he would probably like him because that's how target throws.
He'd probably try harder for Russ too.
Russ makes everybody want to try harder.
Thank you guys for watching today.
Thank you for listening to the podcast.
We will talk to you next time.
