A look at the tight-end rankings after free agency right now on Fantasy Football Today Express.
We did have a lot of things that impacted the tight-end rankings.
We had Alec Pierce and Tyler Warren, obviously staying with the Colts, but Michael Pittman leaving.
We had Isaiah likely going to the Giants.
We had Travis Kelsey back to the Chiefs.
We had Colson Loveland maybe getting a boost with DJ Moore going to the bill.
So these are some of the things we'll talk about now.
I did want to start with Travis Kelsey, Jamie, and kind of an amazing stat.
for the season, he was a top 12 tight end per game, 12th and non-PPR, 10th and
half, ninth and full.
But the first 14 games of the year, he played with Patrick Mahomes.
Travis Kelsey was the number two tight end overall and number five per game.
He was on pace for almost 1,000 yards, six touchdowns, 112 targets.
And he might be, I don't want to call him an afterthought, but people won't be too
excited about Travis Kelsey.
How do you feel about him back with Kansas City?
I think he now falls into the late category, you know, so the great,
tight ends. There's definitely two. I think we look at it as maybe a group of about six or seven
when you add in the three young tight ends of three, four, three young tight ends of Colston Loveland,
Tyler Warren, Harold Fanon. I think those are going to be probably the next three off the board.
Then Tucker Kraft, Sam Laporta. And then I think this is where Travis Kelsey comes in. I would
probably go Kyle Pitts just as of now, assuming there's no holdout, looking at what he did last year
and Kevin Stefanski being now hired as the head coach of Atlanta, his history.
with tight ends.
But likely is in this tier now, and I think this is where Kelsey belongs.
So a great settle for tight end, which is hard to say about someone who's been, you know,
arguably the trendsetter of the position, maybe the greatest of all time at tight end.
But we've seen the production tail off the last couple of years.
And now you have him coming into a season where his quarterback is not healthy.
So if Mahomes is right and Kelsey's right and you have, you know, maybe a situation,
where who knows what happens with Rashi Rice.
You know, we could see a scenario where Travis Kelsey's value is amazing
and his production matches that.
Well, he needs to get some end zone targets.
He usually gets about four to seven end zone targets,
whereas in the past that we get double-digit end zone targets.
In fact, Travis Kelsey, 13 touchdowns in his last three seasons combined.
The three seasons before that, 32 touchdowns.
Unbelievable.
All right.
So who else was affected by free agency in your tight-end ranking?
You mentioned Tyler Warren.
So initially my three after McBride and Bowers, the order was Loveland Fannin, Warren.
I moved Warren ahead of Fanon with Pittman now gone.
Now we'll see who the starting quarterback is for Cleveland.
We'll see what they do in the NFL draft.
But we've got to see what the health is for Daniel Jones as well.
So Warren's in a good spot.
You know, obviously losing a player like Michael Pittman on his roster gives him a boost.
I know they're talking about giving Alec Pierce more opportunities would make sense,
giving the contract that they gave him.
But Warren was fantastic at the start of the season.
First nine games when Daniel Jones was healthy before he suffered the broken leg.
Then obviously the Achilles tear things really went bad for Warren.
But I think, again, he's in a really good spot.
You know, mentioned Kyle Pitts.
I think he just got a boost by staying with the Falcons.
Again, hopefully there's either a contract extension or no holdout.
But Stefansky's presence and what he's done for tight ends,
speaking of Fanon, head coach in Cleveland,
for six years.
I believe it was for those six years.
The tight end was either first or second on the team in targets,
including Fanon last year, led the team in targets.
That's a good spot for pets to solidify himself number two in targets behind
Drake London.
Isaiah likely obviously gets a significant boost going from the shadows of Mark Andrews
to now the starter for the Giants, presumably.
I don't think Theo Johnson beats him out.
So Jackson Dart showed last year that he would lean on his tight ends at times.
We'll see what Matt Nagy's offense is,
but obviously coming from Kansas City.
You got to figure that tight end is going to be pretty prominent.
So like the setup for Isaiah likely, he's now a top 10 tight end as well.
All right.
We're going to take a break.
We're going to come back and talk more about Isaiah likely.
We just haven't really seen that much of him getting featured.
What do we know about Isaiah likely?
How are the Giants going to use him?
What will it mean for fantasy?
We'll be right back on fantasy football today.
All right.
So likely, you know, it was kind of disappointing last year when they were hyping him up preseason.
He was going to make the Pro Bowl.
But he battled some injuries, played 14 games, and only,
caught one touchdown and fumbled going into the end zone once.
But we have seen him be really good.
2023 without Mark Andrews,
weeks 12 through 18,
he averaged 13.9 PPR fantasy points,
then 11.4 on a playoff game.
So we've seen some really good things from him.
What does your read on him?
I mean,
what good athlete,
but a lot of unknown with Isaiah likely.
Yeah,
I think that's fair.
But you're looking at a player that can,
you know,
clearly ascend to,
I think, top five potential.
We've seen when he's had opportunities.
We've seen when he's had targets, when he's had targets, how he's performed.
And I think that will be the case.
You know, we're looking at this Giants offense right now.
They add Darnal Mooney.
We think they're going to add potentially something in the draft, but they lose Wondell
Robinson.
They're getting Malik neighbors back, you know, hopefully at 100% to start the year.
I think likely has a chance to be second on the team of targets.
Wouldn't be surprised.
And if that's the case, then, you know, could be in that top five conversation.
So I think he's one of those guys you can make a case for that you want to take two tight ends with.
So if you draft Isaiah, like I think you did that in our most recent draft, you took likely in somebody else.
So you can take, you know, what I would try to do is either if you want to go the safe route and take somebody with maybe a safer floor,
maybe pair him with his former teammate of Mark Andrews who can get some touchdowns.
You could take a chance on, let's say, another free agent who signed Chico Conco, another young tight end who's got an opportunity, maybe in Gunner Helm.
So there are some tight ends, I think, that fall into the tight end two category.
or maybe even again the safer route,
like Isaiah likely Dallas Goddard pairing,
you know,
where Goddard's been,
I think you said this that last week,
top 13 every year of his career
since his rookie season.
So there are ways to,
you know, make the likely and somebody else work.
But if likely hits,
I think you drop that second tight end
or try and trade him pretty quickly
because if he's the top target for Jackson Dart,
you're going to be thrilled.
Yeah, Dallas Goddard's another guy who's a free agent,
signs a one-year deal with the Eagles.
He's 31 years old,
and he was the number six tight end in fantasy last.
year because he scored a bunch of touchdowns.
But yes, he has finished top 13.
How do you remember all these stats?
Amazing.
Seven straight seasons.
More encouraging.
He's been top five per game,
top six per game, twice in the last four years.
And that's with AJ Brown.
So Dallas Goddard is a really underrated player.
I draft, you mentioned the draft.
I drafted likely and Kelsey.
Where do you usually find yourself dipping into the tight end pool?
I just play the board.
You know, so in that draft, I took a,
Colston, Loveland in round four.
I think we're going to see him in some cases go round three,
which for me I would just pass and maybe wait a round or two
to get, you know, Tyler Warren or Harold Fanon or, you know, Leporta or Kraft.
I tend to, you know, gravitate toward that range of tight ends.
For me, it's, you know, again, seeing who's available, who I like.
But I don't mind what you did at all.
You know, again, I think if you go likely Kelsey pairing, you know,
you're getting what I would consider two,
certainly two top 12 guys and two potential top 10 guys.
And Loveland with the DJ Moore trade, you're pretty fired up about Colston Loveland.
It's hard not to, you know, last four games this season, you know, 10 plus targets.
He was electric.
I think was building towards something clearly, you know, coming out of the draft and into the start of the season with the shoulder injury.
And then, you know, kind of figuring out this Ben Johnson offense.
And once Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson realized what they had drafted and how he was able to perform,
it was feed him, feed him and feed him some more.
So, you know, just hard to, hard.
hard not to get excited about what Loveland can be.
I think he could challenge the top two guys for that number one spot.
Okay, well, that's our tight end.
Just a little chat about tight ends here.
It's actually my favorite position.
A lot of strategy goes into it.
Greater late, we've been saying that a lot.
So, yeah, we'll talk about it.
We look forward to talking about it for the next several months.
Thank you very much for watching, listening Fantasy Football Day Express.
We'll talk to you tomorrow.
