Starting point is 00:01:04 Adam and Jamie here. We'll talk about four of the more recent news items with Joe Brady being promoted to head coach for Buffalo. Todd Manken going to Cleveland. That's former Baltimore offensive coordinator going to Cleveland. Clint Kubiak, Seattle's offensive coordinator, still Seattle's offensive coordinator for another week. And then we'll reportedly take the Raiders head coaching job. And Mike LaFleur, who's been the Rams offensive coordinator. for three seasons going to Arizona.
Starting point is 00:01:35 All right, Jamie, rank them in order of excitement. LaFlorida, Arizona, Kubiak to the Raiders, Monkhan to the Browns, Brady staying with the bills. Brady won. Kubiak two. LaFleur three, Monk in four. Brady one. You like it.
Starting point is 00:01:59 I mean, it wasn't, it wouldn't been my first choice. I would have preferred to see Dable go there just because of the history with Josh Allen and what that might have looked at, what looked like. But what I'm hoping for is that Joe Brady is not handcuffed by Sean McDermott to whatever that extent was. Defensive-minded head coach wanted to be a little bit more run-centric. Maybe they allowed Josh Allen to throw the ball a little bit more. But obviously they got to add some receivers there.
Starting point is 00:02:24 So that's the next version of what we have to see come out of Buffalo as part of this offseason right now. But I mean, look, when you talk about these scenarios here, can anybody be inspired by Cleveland and what they're doing? So to me, the answer would be no, it's an easy last one. And then I think in the other two cases, for Kubiak going to the Raiders, like you're getting a blank slate. You know, you're getting brand new quarterback, hopefully upgrades on the offensive line. You still have one of the more exciting running back prospects that I think we still have the chance of the best of. and one of the best tight ends in the NFL,
Starting point is 00:03:01 even though Brock Bauer is coming off what we would consider a downseason fantasy-wise. He's still really good. So there's a lot to like about that, obviously, but is Kubiak, you know, Kubiak wasn't great in New Orleans, you know, and then he goes to Seattle and he's great. Well, you know, you had to get off to that hot start.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Remember, like first four games or so, they were on fire. Yeah, I guess you. But, you know, I think that's an interesting one. And then anytime you're getting somebody from the Sean McVeigh tree, you want to see if there's going to, if it's going to work there from Michael LaFleur, he's had some up and down, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:33 stops, you know, and look, his brothers obviously had a lot of success. So, you know, you hope to see him do well also, but there's just so many question marks still with Arizona, mostly who's going to be the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Right. And I like the hire of LaFleur. I mean, I don't really have a super strong opinion on it, but LaFleur does have experience calling plays with the Jets. And three years, the last three years have been with,
Starting point is 00:03:58 the Rams rather as their offensive coordinator, but you look at previous Rams offensive coordinators who have gotten jobs, Liam Cohen, Kevin O'Connell, and one more success story. Head coaches? It was Lefore.
Starting point is 00:04:12 It was Mike Lafore. Yeah. Matt Lafore. It was Matt Lafore with the Packers. So that's a good track record of these guys who have apprenticed under Shaw McVeigh. And there are other offensive
Starting point is 00:04:27 hires, you know, you've got Mike McCarthy for Pittsburgh, you've got Kevin Stafansky for Atlanta. Let's take a little break and kind of talk about all of it, because now we've got most of the puzzle pieces in place, still waiting for the Giants to hire an offensive coordinator. But I think with the 10 coaching openings, we know basically everything we need to know. We'll kind of review everything. All right. We'll be right back on fantasy football today. Local news is in decline across Canada.
Starting point is 00:04:56 And this is bad news for all of us. us. With less local news, noise, rumors, and misinformation fill the void. And it gets harder to separate truth from fiction. That's why CBC News is putting more journalists in more places across Canada, reporting on the ground from where you live, telling the stories that matter to all of us. Because local news is big news. Choose news, not noise. CBC News. Okay. So, Jamie, if you think about Buffalo, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Arizona, We just talked about them. Pittsburgh with Mike McCarthy.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Miami, Jeff Halfley, defensive coordinator for the Packers. He's their new head coach. Offensive coordinator is going to be Bobby Sloick. Giants of Jim Harbaugh, no offensive coordinator yet. Tennessee is Robert Sala. They bring in Brian Dable as their offensive coordinator. Baltimore is Jesse Minter. They bring in Declan Doyle from Chicago as their offensive coordinator.
Starting point is 00:05:50 And Atlanta, Kevin Stefanski. What's the most exciting coaching or offensive coordinator higher for you this cycle? I mean, obviously it's hardball. You know, when you look at the pieces that he's inheriting, you know, clearly the offense coordinator is going to matter. But I think unless it was going to be a disaster of a coaching hire, we were going to like the Giants for fantasy, you know, because Dart, what he showed, Scadaboo, what he showed,
Starting point is 00:06:16 and as the rookie season, in their rookie seasons, Malik neighbors, what he still has the potential to do and be, and hopefully he's going to be healthy. Do they retain Wanda Robinson and the draft of the wide receiver? You know, did they go out and add another tie-down as a Stilthe-O, John's, you know, there's a lot still moving parts here. But, I mean, just the three main pieces and some still good talent on the offensive line and some great talent defensively that I think can be, you know, enhanced.
Starting point is 00:06:40 The Giants job was very attractive and they got the guy that everybody wanted. Once you get past that, though, like, I think Stefansky in Atlanta is going to be good. You know, I know he's getting knocked for what happened the last several years in Cleveland, but really starting with the Deshaun Watson debacle, like everything just kind of has fallen apart there. Yeah. And so I think getting a fresh start, hopefully they have their quarterback situation settled, you know, whether it's Pennix or cousins or a combination of the two or, you know, maybe go out and even add somebody else if cousins leaves, you know, so Bijon Robinson, Drake, London, you know, those are two of the best fantasy options that we have, two of I think the best players, their respective positions. And if they keep Kyle Pitts, that'd be even great, even better because of what's Daphansky's history of tight ends is. I think McCarthy with Pittsburgh, while getting knocked quite a bit, you know, it's funny.
Starting point is 00:07:24 You look at his career resume. it's very similar to John Harbaugh. It's very similar to Pete Carroll. It's very similar to a lot of great coaches. And especially what he does offensively. Like, you look what he did in Dallas when Dak Prescott was healthy. They were a very good offense. You look what he did in Green Bay.
Starting point is 00:07:42 He sort of, you know, I mean, obviously, when a Super Bowl, did great things there in Rogers. You know, they had a great run. And the problem is you brought this up when we discussed it. Like his system tends to get a little stale at times, you know, lacking some creativity. You know, I know how much I trust Pete Priscoe, you know, when during the end of his time in Green Bay, when he still had Rogers, it was, and I don't know how much this was Rogers. But a lot of it was the wide receivers run around, turn around, wait for Rogers to make a play or back shoulder fate. Like that was his, there wasn't a lot of pre-snap motion in a lot of those things.
Starting point is 00:08:21 And then he goes to Dallas and things look a lot better when he starts. calling plays. And again, how much of that is the talent? How much of that is him, you know, just working with Dag Prescott. So again, incomplete because you don't know who's going to be the quarterback there, but I think it'll be better than what we saw last season, again, even if they run it back with Rogers for one more year, which could easily be the case. So, I agree with you. LaFlec could be really good, but I want to see what happens there in Arizona because a lot of good pieces. Kubiak going to the Raiders could be a lot of fun, you know, with Mendoza, expected to be the number one overall pick there. So there's definitely reason for
Starting point is 00:08:53 optimism. And it is kind of surprising, you know, with some of the young defense coordinators or the case of guys that, you know, I think people are expecting to get jobs. Sala and Halfley are the only two, unless I'm missing when I know Harpo's. Minter. Minter. Oh, Minter. Yes. Excuse me. So those three guys. But, you know, no Chris Shula, no Vance Joseph. And then Raheem Morris, who, you know, maybe got some interest after he was fired, which I think was kind of an unjust firing. But, you know, those three guys will probably be three of the hotter names going into the 2027 cycle. Yeah, I'm actually pretty excited for the
Starting point is 00:09:33 Titans. I think, you know, Robert Sala is a proven commodity as a defensive coordinator. So they should be able to at some point have a good defense there. They have to rebuild it, obviously. And Brian Dable, I still think he's a creative play caller. And they've got the, you know, they got the fourth pick in the draft, they've got their quarterback, and they've got the most cap space in the NFL. The Raiders, I believe, have the second most cap space. So these are two teams that could have a bright future. But, you know, man, if they can go out and make a splash and get George Pickens or something like that, that'd be awesome.
Starting point is 00:10:05 They could obviously draft a wide receiver with the fourth overall pick. And I think the Titans have invested enough in their offensive line through the NFL drafted through free agency that that's not going to be a weakness for them. So, you know, pieces are in place, I think, for the top. Maybe he's all follow Salah to the Titans. Yeah, it could be. Maybe Joanne Jennings goes over there, something like that. He did play college at the University of Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:10:28 There you go. Look at us. We're just connecting all the dots. But reasons for optimism, I hope it works out. And honestly, I'm a little bit worried. You talk about Harbaugh being the best higher. I am a little bit worried offensively because they don't have their coordinator. And I hope it's Cliff Kingsbury.
Starting point is 00:10:42 There's not a lot of guys who have play calling experience that are available on the market. I'm surprised Kingsbury hasn't gotten anything yet. but that could be the next step for the Giants. Maybe not that all the head coaches are in place. Yeah, yeah, right. That's a good point. All right, thank you very much, Jamie. We'll talk to you later in the week on FFT Express.
Starting point is 00:11:01 See you. On Podcasts.
