We're looking at late round wide receivers here on FFT in five.
Welcome to fantasy football today in five. I'm Jamie Eisenberg. That's Dan Schneier talking about
some of our favorite late round wide receivers, Dan. So maybe guys that we're looking at picks
after 100 overall, the floor is yours. Give me somebody that you are targeting first. We'll talk
about maybe three guys here on this episode.
Okay, we're going to narrow it down to three guys.
I'm going to start with a medium
level sleeper here, and that medium
level sleeper is Rashad Bateman,
who's a player who, if you look back
on his date from last year, actually was getting
open at a better rate.
It looked like somebody closer to what the product
I saw at Minnesota. Now, obviously,
Dodo Beckham Jr. out of the mix.
They're still a very pass heavy offense, or they want to be at least.
And I think that will continue to grow in year two of that system with Tom
Munkin.
They'll only get more pass heavy and more comfortable as Lamar gets more
comfortable in the system.
So Bateman is a sneaky,
like a sneaky a hundred target type of guy that you're getting really late in
your drafts with former first round pedigree and talent.
So I like him a lot.
So you say pass happy offense, and I know you're a Derrick Henry guy. So do you see it being more pass happy than it was a year ago? Or I do. I like Henry with the loss of Beckham.
It's still a benefit to me. So I do still think it'll be more pass happy. My, my, my love for
Henry this year is mostly based on the touchdown upside and how much touchdowns are worth to us
in fantasy football. Okay. Makes sense. I don't see the past volume necessarily increasing
that much, but I do see the loss of Beckham that makes Bateman worth the late round flyer. All
right. Give me another guy that you're looking at. Okay. Now we'll go a little bit deeper,
but not too deep. I got a super deep one coming at the end, but we got a little bit deeper.
Luke McCaffrey, the rookie wide receiver for the commanders. McCaffrey was one of my favorite
sleepers in the entire draft class. I put him on my, my guys list because
when you watch him on film, you see that he's a former quarterback who plays receiver now.
And what do I mean by that? He was the second best receiver from an efficiency standpoint,
again, zone coverage. He understands how to beat zone coverage because he was a quarterback and he
read that. And that's so perfect for playing within this new cliff Kingsbury system. I think
he'll win that slot job. And it doesn't hurt that, you know,
we're hearing early rumors from Jane and their reports from Jane Daniels
that I show up at the building at five 30.
And the only person who's there is Luke McCaffrey with me.
So, you know, maybe they can build that report early rookie to rookie.
I just think there's a really good chance that he could be that guy that
everyone's screaming, rushing a waiver wires for, uh, after week one or two.
So do you see him taking over for Jahan Dotson?
I don't think he takes over from a corn,
but there was some talk obviously about using McCaffrey outside.
And if that happens, I think that comes at the expense of Dotson.
I do too.
And I think that's part of why I like him as a potential late round sleeper
because Dotson just hasn't been productive at the NFL level.
I know he has draft pedigree, but the efficiency marks are not there. And he's really struggled in a, in a lot of ways so far in his NFL career.
Right. Did have the seven touchdowns in his rookie campaign, but really disappointing as
a sophomore. We'll see if Daniels can help him, but hard to expect not only McLaurin to play well,
but also one of these two guys to step up. And then, you know, the tight ends, whether it's
or another sleeper, I think that we, we all Ben Sinnott, somebody that all these guys can be supported by Jayden Daniels.
All right.
The third guy that you're looking at in this range is.
This is a super, super deep one.
And it's Charlie Jones, the second year receiver for the Bengals.
So Charlie Jones is a big time sleeper.
He was a player I loved out of Purdue.
What I loved about him was his ability to win in the slot. He was the only guy
I saw who beat Joey Porter jr. Uh, at corner and just consistently beat him when he played Penn
state. Um, and that was really good to see because he had a really good season with the Steelers.
And now we have guys that they drafted. Obviously they drafted, um, the kid who I'm blank Jermaine
Burton at Alabama is, uh, Andre Ushivas out of Princeton is there as well in the roster, but
Charlie Jones is to me, the guy who can fill that Tyler Boyd role the best
and the most likely to fill that role.
And that role is productive for fantasy football.
So this is super deep.
You've got to be playing in 14, 16-team leagues to be looking at a guy like this.
But don't be surprised if Charlie Jones is the new Tyler Boyd or Tyler Boyd light
because he was a really talented player with really good tape coming out.
I know they like him on special teams.
He'll be involved in the return game as well. And like you said, there's an opening with Tyler
Boyd gone. I just wonder just from speaking to, um, Zach Taylor at the, uh, um, owners meetings,
you know, him talking about moving, maybe Jamar chase inside a little bit more and then giving
Burton the opportunity to play on the outside, which I think would be good for chase, but,
uh, Charlie Jones could certainly be somebody to fill that role. Uh, I'm going to give you
two names for me. One is Jalen McMillan. Our guy Pete Prisco has been at Tampa Bay Bucks minicamp
this week and just raving about McMillan, who they feel like they got as a steal in the NFL draft.
And we know what they're planning to do, which is to move Chris Godwin inside, which allows
McMillan maybe the chance to be the starter on the outside. And while that may not lead to a lot of
production early, could be somebody that plays a role and we know mike evans at this point in his career did miss a game last
year that helped chris godwin's numbers pop but godwin i think benefits in this regard but
mcmillan is somebody that you can take with a late round pick and also have a lot of production
potentially if baker mayfield looks for him with enough of a target share and then a guy that you
mentioned on our full-length episode on thursday which i think people are going to overlook because
of the team he plays on is
Wandel Robinson. You mentioned it. So you're removed now from the ACL.
He most likely will profile and you can address this more than I can as the
slot receiver for the giants with neighbors on the outside and probably
Darius Slayton, but it could be Jalen Hyde as well.
But I think for Robinson's role,
especially now with the tight end position being a little bit of a question
mark, we know that sort of been a Daniel Jones staple,
mostly with Sterling Shepard. So I like the opportunity to take Robinson late,
have him on a couple of dynasty leagues. I'm excited to see what he can do. And so while
neighbors getting all the headlines, I think Robinson is somebody that should not go overlooked
with one of your late round picks. Yeah. I love that call by you. Wanda Robinson has
been the best Giants receiver at minicamp so far outside of Malik neighbors, obviously.
Yeah. It's going to be fun to see how, see how Drew Locke does with all of these Giants.
No, Daniel Jones, how he does with all these wide receivers.
All right, that'll do it for us here on FFTN5.
For Dan Schneier, I'm Jamie Eisenberg.
Thanks for watching. Thanks for listening.
We'll be back next week.
