Let's tell you about some under-the-radar
rookies right now on Fantasy Football Today in
5.
I'm Adam Azer with Jamie Eisenberg. He's
writing the content for this article
under-the-radar rookies. So's writing the content for this article, Under the Radar Rookies.
So who's the headliner, Jamie?
The headliner, I guess, probably Tyrone Tracy.
And this is more redraft.
This is not for Dynasty Leagues because, obviously, I think when we talk Dynasty,
we spend a little bit more time on these guys.
This is more players who can make an impact as rookies that aren't the Jonathan Brooks or Marvin Harrisons of the world.
So Tracy's got an opportunity to be, I think, a contributor in the Giants backfield right away,
depending on what they do in terms of the backups there.
But as a pass catcher, we know converted wide receiver, I think will be explosive as a rusher.
And Devin Singletary, look, he's been a very good running back at the two
stops that he's played in Buffalo and Houston, but he's not the most explosive player as we're
well aware. So replacing Saquon Barkley, will they use Singletary? Will they go with the committee?
I think Tracy will again, have a role, uh, hopefully on third downs to start. And then
if something happens, Singletary or the giants, you know, struggle, which wouldn't be a huge
surprise that they decide to go in a different direction, maybe toward the middle to the end
of the season that Tracy has a chance to be a significant contributor.
So he's not what I would say is in the top three rookie running backs for sure.
Probably not in the top five, although he's close for me.
But once you get to once you get past for me, Brooks, Benson and Corum,
I think is where he comes into play in terms of the rookie running backs.
Okay. Tyrone Tracy is actually going to be 25 years old in November.
He had a 40% avoid rate in his last season in college.
Not a ton of carries, but that's really impressive.
Who else you got as an under-the-radar rookie?
Kamani Vidal, kind of a similar situation.
You know, you're looking at Gus Edwards, 29 years old.
J.K. Dobbins coming off the Achilles injury. I think both will be fine, uh, especially if
Dobbins stays healthy, but we know he's had a hard time doing that since being drafted in 2020,
he's missed 43 games. Um, my guy, unfortunately just can't stay on the field. Uh, so Vidal comes
into a situation where he might be the best pass catching running back of the trio. Uh, Edwards
has not done that very much in his career and Dobbins has been sort of hit or miss. I think
he could do a better job in that role.
But look, while they're going to run the ball a ton,
you know Justin Herbert has relied on a pass catcher,
and Vidal might be the guy that steps into that Austin Eckler role.
I don't think he's going to do what Eckler does.
He's not going to be a 50-cash kind of guy.
But stepping into a situation where older running back,
injury-prone running back, team that's going to run the ball a lot,
so a lot of carries go around,
another guy that could have a significant impact in his rookie campaign.
Second in the nation in rushing yards last year, Kamani Vidal, 1,661 yards.
Got another name for us?
Yeah, Troy Franklin.
Obviously, you look at this situation in Denver.
Cortland Sutton, for now, is the guy.
If he stays on the roster, I expect that to be the case,
but he's not happy with his contract situation. So they're replacing their, you know,
second receiver, essentially Jerry duty gone, uh, I believe with 67 targets that he has available
to be replaced and, uh, it might be more, um, but, um, big opportunity here for somebody to
step in. So Marvin Mims is somebody that I like as well. Uh, they bring in Josh Reynolds,
but there's clearly a chance here for Franklin,
who a lot of people thought should have gone well ahead of the fourth round in the NFL draft,
being reunited with his college quarterback in Bo Nix.
There's a rapport that's easily established right away.
And so he could be somebody that, you know, works his way into the wide receiver three range,
probably by the middle of the season.
So we'll see how quickly Sean Payton leans on him.
We know that he's didn't,
didn't do a great job last year and incorporating mims into the offense as a
rookie that got off to a good start with some splash plays.
Uh,
Franklin,
I think you'd do a little bit more than that.
And so somebody that I'm interested in drafting with a late run pick.
Okay.
We've got time for one more name,
Jamie,
another under the radar rookie.
Yeah,
I'll go with a tight end.
Ben Senate,
um,
Ben Senate,
Senate,
um,
Senate.
Yep.
Um, I'm going to mispronounce the name probably a hundred times. But second round draft capital in the NFL draft matters. And I think coming out of Kansas State, he'll make some plays. This is an interesting passing game because is Jaden Daniels as a rookie going to be able to support multiple targets to the level that we want. So Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, clearly are the first two guys that should be getting targets.
Then you have three I think they're going to compete for that third spot.
Two tight ends in Zach Ertz and Sinnott,
and then Luke McCaffrey, another rookie that they drafted,
who is also somebody that I would put on this list, but I only did five,
so we'll just say it's five and a bonus.
But in any event, open receiving core for the commanders.
You know, Cliff Kingsbury's offense will spread the ball around.
He's somebody that I think very similar to what happened to Trey McBride,
not the same heights, but Zach Ertz starts out the season as the lead tight end,
probably doesn't finish the season as the lead tight end,
and Sennett gets an opportunity to play at a high level toward the end of the season.
So if you are inclined to draft two tight ends,
he should be at the end of your draft list in redraft leagues
and somebody that could have an impact as the season goes on.
In our most recent draft, Ben Sennett,
maybe it was our second most recent draft.
He went with the fourth to last pick of our draft. And by the way,
he had the second highest off target rate among tight ends in college last
season. So hopefully he gets a quarterback upgrade. That's Jamie Eisberg.
I'm Adam Azer and we'll talk to you next week.
Have a great weekend, everybody on fantasy football today. Bye.
