always a pleasure and hey i love being number two this is the second time on the show we had
a blast the last time we had the chat room just a popping so looking forward to a repeat performance here and you can see matt's backdrop looking a little better than
mine i am on vacation this week which is a good programming note there will not be a friday show
this week but matt i do want to give you a chance here at the start of the show tell everybody what
you've been working on where they can find your work uh yeah obviously basically go to the x machine there
twitter whatnot at matt donnelly ff that kind of gives you an idea of where to find everything we
got the uh i got some an article possibly dropping in there over on roto baller with my dynasty trade
chart just to kind of give people an idea what dynasty values look like going forward whether
it's super flex tight end premium how to kind of look at the two together so if i'm trying to trade
say sam laporta what's a good super flex quarterback that kind of look at the two together so if i'm trying to trade say sam laporta
what's a good super flex quarterback that kind of works with that and what else do i have to add to
that deal to make it happen so let's come in probably over to rotoballer something like that
and then always over at fantasypoints.com over on their discord channel basically a 24-7 helpline
over there because we know how important discord is for all our subscription bases out there so
check awesome awesome stuff matt always enjoy talking to you about dynasty i'm glad to hear over there because we know how important discord is for all our subscription bases out there so
awesome awesome stuff matt always enjoy talking to you about dynasty i'm glad to hear you've been working on the dynasty trade chart that's that's something i do as well and i think maybe will help
guide us in this discussion today's show will be about june rankings risers we can talk about
whether matt agrees that these guys are rising and where he
has them valued at both at their position and then across positions as well. We always start
with three questions for our guests and Matt's been on the show before, so he doesn't get the
same question that everybody else does first. But I will say, like, I'm going to have you get out
your crystal ball. When I do this rankings riser show in August,
two months from now,
who is going to be the biggest dynasty riser?
Oh boy.
That's going to be an interesting one there.
I really like Trey Benson.
I really do.
He's won James Connor injury away from being a workhorse back.
We talk about this mythological creature there when it comes to the running
back position and especially when it comes to dynasty,
because we do put a devalue on the running back,
especially when we look at dynasty because the PPR, the wide receivers,
the longevity of the position.
But if you look at what James Conner has done when healthy over the last few
years in Arizona, if he were to kind of suffer an injury,
which he has had a few of them last few years,
Trey Benson steps right into one of the league winning
type positions as early as this year.
And we know James Conner has only got another couple seasons.
Everything that Conner can do, Trey Benson can do.
He can run between the tackles.
He can catch the ball out of the backfield.
I think he's probably the guy who's going to rise the highest here,
especially when you kind of put him comparable to Jonathan Brooks there
in Carolina, who he was compared with throughout the draft process, who many had Brooks ahead of Benson.
I just love this Benson situation here based on what we've seen so far from James Conner.
Rhonda got the joke off first, so we will read her comment in the chat.
Heath, are you on the toilet today?
We always make fun of Dan because his room does kind of look like that's what Dan's doing.
No, I am in a
basement in central Tennessee, center Hill Lake, beautiful, beautiful country. I'm getting ready
to go to a hike, see some waterfalls here a little bit later. So it's a, it's a great time
having a really good time. Second question for you, Matt, who is your favorite rookie sleeper?
So let's, let's say maybe guys that are not being drafted
in the first couple of rounds of rookie drafts.
And no pressure, but somebody said Puka Nakua last year.
So if you get that, hit that nail on the head,
we could talk about you forever.
Yeah, no, it's funny you mentioned Puka Nakua
and my favorite fantasy sleeper kind of in the same thing.
If you go onto the Twitter machine,
I may have
made a comment about jaylen mcmillan being the next puka nakua and what i meant by that was
he's in a position where people have kind of forgotten how good he actually is under value i
think rookie drafts is going the third round fourth round somewhere in that ballpark if you
look at his production went healthy even with rom Romo Dunze there and Polk there,
Jalen Polk, he was productive.
He was one of the more productive wide receivers prior to that injury.
And we have a tendency to kind of forget what people have done in the past.
It's more of a, what have you done for me lately there?
And with that injury last year, people kind of forgot how good Jalen McMillan is going to be.
Well, fast forward, Tampa Bay, Baker Mayfield, he don't care about nothing,
none of those stats previously. He's going to chuck that ball around the field, what he does
best, because they can't run the ball in Tampa Bay, so they're going to throw it. They're going
to use that passing game as an extension of the run game with Rashad White, but Jalen McMillan's
one of those guys that I think is going to have a bigger season than most people are anticipating
here, and the running back position, I do likeron tracy there out of uh the new york giants there pass catching back out of purdue there big time uh ppr value there
only devin singletary kind of ahead of him there no disrespect to devin singletary because i love
the guy he's been productive wherever he's been when given an opportunity but tyron tracy
pass catcher he's more of a wide receiver playing running back right now. I like both of those names and both definitely available after round two, sometimes after round
three, I think for McMillan, especially if you're playing in a super flex league.
Let's flip it to the other side now, because that's one of the interesting things I think
about putting together a trade chart is that all teams in the dynasty league don't have the same
motivation. Some teams have a bunch of rookie picks,
and they're trying to add these rookie sleepers.
Some teams, especially this time of year, in a month or two,
are looking to add veterans because they're contending.
They're playing for the championship that year.
Who's your favorite veteran to add right now,
heading into the season, if you're a contender?
I love Deontay Johnson that's my guy
right now I mean we talk about what he did in Pittsburgh minus last season there's a reason
why he was seeing 160 170 targets he was getting open he was earning those targets by getting open
versus man versus press versus zone it doesn't matter he's over 75 percent win rate there in
each of those categories so you know he's going to get open. What was Carolina's problem last season?
Adam Thielen was probably their best wide receiver getting open,
and he's like 35 years old, and he wasn't getting separation.
So Bryce Young really didn't have that guy that he could trust
to get that ball to.
He was basically a war of attrition out there.
Get the ball into Adam Thielen's hands, see what happens.
Terrace Marshall, I mean, Mingo.
These are not guys you can necessarily trust
that's why they went out there got themselves a jonathan brooks for the run game to go chuba
hubbard that's why they went out there and traded for deontay johnson that's why they went out there
and got sanders at the tight end position so they went out there to get some playmakers there
that are going to find a way to get open but if you are in ppr i i think Deontay Johnson's in that kind of area,
that tier where he could catch 115 passes.
And if he can get some touchdowns, which he got last year,
which wasn't really the case previous years,
then you might have yourself a wide receiver sneaking into that top 24,
top 20 type fantasy production and where you're getting him in ADP and where
you get them on a trade.
I mean, it feels like a steal right now.
Yeah, I look at my wide receiver rankings.
I've got Johnson at wide receiver 47 within.
And this is for dynasty, not a lot of younger guys ahead of him.
I'd rather have him in redraft.
He's about wide receiver 30 for me in redraft.
But I think what's interesting about him as a buy,
as you look at some of the other wide receivers that I have in that range in my dynasty rankings.
Cooper Cup will be 31 at the start of the season.
Mike Evans, 31 at the start of the season.
Amari Cooper, 30 at the start of the season.
Stephon Diggs, 30.
Devontae Adams, 31.
Like those are often when you talk about veterans that you can buy.
Those are the names that people think.
And they're hoping I don't have to pay a first round pick for this 30 something year old.
I'd like to be able to get him for a second.
Well, I think it's maybe more likely that you could get Johnson for a second than some
of those bigger names.
And he's just 28.
If this thing works in Carolina, you didn't just buy a one year rental.
You might have a number one wide receiver for the next two
to three seasons yeah i think the other guy talked about last time on the show was marquise hollywood
brown another one of those young wide receivers kind of forgotten i think he's got a lot more
momentum now that he's gone to kansas city but i mean same type situation i think he's 26 27 years
old deontay johnson 27 28 years old i mean these are still young wide receivers you don't hit that
age plateau until that 30,
31 years. So when you go and invest in these guys a second, maybe even a third round draft pick,
you're getting these guys for two, three, four seasons, which is more than you can ask for from
the position. Joey Wright showing up in the chat asks an important question, more hair on Heath's
head or Matt's stash. And I just wanted, I wanted to bring that up for all you people who are
listening to the
podcast,
not watching on YouTube.
This is one where you want to go check it out on YouTube,
the best mustache in the fantasy industry.
And maybe I'm selling him.
Maybe it's just the best mustache.
We can leave the fantasy industry out of it.
Right.
Either way,
we're going to get into some dynasty risers right after this break.

Be alert, be aware, and stay safe.
Got some CFL coming on. That's what Matt Donnelly wants to talk about. He loves it.
All right. So I do want to get into, I've got seven guys here who rose in my dynasty rankings in the month of June. I also just this week, I'm releasing updated dynasty tiers for the first time
in a couple of months. So if you go to CBS Fantasy and you look for those dynasty tiers,
I think quarterback just
came out.
Running back, wide receiver, tight end will all come out in the next three or four days.
But my first riser is a guy who I've probably been a little down on over the last couple
of years.
But Matt, I think maybe the industry passed me.
Sometimes that happens.
We're like, I don't know why you guys like this guy so much.
And then when everybody turns on him, it turns out you're the high guy on him.
That guy for me is Trevor Lawrence. Was my QB 14 last month. Did move up a couple spots to QB 12 with the contract extension. When I look at that group of quarterbacks and I'll put him in that group with Brock Purdy with Tua with Jordan Love
like he's the one now that has the guaranteed secured future staying in this same spot
QB 12 for Lawrence is that just about right is it a little too high a little too low
so when I look at my dice rings I think we're pretty much lock and step here like I got him
at QB 13 so I'm right there with you i got him as a value i mean
that contract makes a huge difference the one thing we know about jacksonville is they've
surrounded lawrence the last couple seasons even when they let um kelvin ridley go they went out
they drafted brian thomas so they're willing to give him weapons trevor lawrence he's got he's got
he's got thomas there he's got christian k, one of the most underrated wide receivers in the game,
not just fantasy, but in the game in general.
And then you've got your guys like Evan Ingram,
who's just been a target hog last season.
So there are offense weapons, ETN.
So he's got lots of guys to work with, maybe more so than some of these other guys.
The guys I have just ahead of him, Jordan Love there at eight,
Kyler Murray at nine, Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels at 10 and 11,
just based on what they can do with their legs as well. Trevor Lawrence doesn't get credit for
what he can do with his legs. He's like a big Clydesdale out there. Each stride he takes is
like three, four yards. So he doesn't get that scrambling quarterback type of feel from fast
owners, but when he does get out there, he can pick up some yards. So I got him kind of in that
same tier with Dak Prescott and Justin Herbert.
So you can make an argument where he could be a little bit higher.
You can make a little argument where it can be a little bit lower.
So I think 12, 13 feels just about right for him.
So one of the things I've kind of pointed out over the last few years is we've made
a lot of excuses for Trevor Lawrence that, and some of them are very valid.
Like the Urban Meyer year, we just don't count that against him.
And the next year he didn't have a number one wide receiver.
And then last year, he was hurt,
and Calvin Ridley couldn't come down with a lot of catches in the end zone.
I don't say that necessarily to poke at where Lawrence is now
because I think I'm higher than industry consensus on him.
But I wonder, he came into the league, Matt,
as a guy that we thought
this could be the best quarterback in the nfl like there is there is elite upside generational
talent all all of those things generally by this point in a quarterback's career we've seen a
little bit more proof of that on the field are you still holding out to that hope that trevor
lawrence could it could all click the first month or two of this season and we could look at him as a top
five quarterback again or do you think he's more in that like he's a young kurt cousins he's a guy
that's going to be a solid-ish starter for a long time but probably not going to reach the heights
that we thought he could when he was drafted no i, I think I agree with the latter of that.
I think he's in that Kirk Cousins type thing.
That's not a bad thing.
Kirk Cousins can finish top five when it comes to fantasy.
We've seen him have really good years.
But I think realistically for Trevor Lawrence,
his ceiling is kind of in that 7, 8, 9, 10 range any given year.
I mean, look at the guys ahead of them.
Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Burrow, Richardson if he stays healthy,
C.J. Stroud, Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson. I mean, it's really going to be tough for him to get ahead of those guys
as far as fantasy production in any given season.
And that's not to take away from him at all.
I mean, but if you look at that first 50 games in a block,
and you compare it to some other quarterbacks who we've kind of busted
the chops on, the Derek Kars, the Blake Bortles. 50 games in a block and you compare it to some other quarterbacks who we've kind of busted the
chops on the Derek Carrs the Blake Bortles look at their fifth Garner Minshew look at their first
50 games look at the touchdowns the interceptions look at the win-loss record look at the completion
percentage it basically mirrors each other across the board and that's a little bit concerning here
because we don't value Derek Carr we We don't value Gardner Minshew.
We sure as heck didn't appreciate Blake Bortles,
who actually took the team to the AFC Championship.
But that's kind of where Trevor Lawrence happens to fall in
within his first 50 games.
Now, that doesn't mean that's where he's going to stay.
I think we've seen, like I said, Jacksonville kind of put those pieces in place.
Last season, I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
There was a lot of injuries.
The rib injury, I think, that affected him pieces in place last season. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. There was a lot of injuries, the rib injury,
I think that affected him pretty much the entire season. So I will wait and see here,
but this is kind of that make or break season for Trevor Lawrence in dynasty,
where if he doesn't have a top 10 finish,
I think he can easily slide down to that 15,
16 range there below Brock Purdy,
maybe even below Jared Goff if he doesn't perform it's it's really
interesting comparing him and Goff because it's easy to look at Goff and say well yeah he had
Sean McVay and now he's got Ben Johnson like thing he's got a Munro St. Brown and Cooper Cup and like
things have been pretty easy for Goff when he's been good but he's just also like he's got a lot
more evidence of being really
good in terms of fantasy production than trevor lawrence does let's get to riser number two it's
another guy with a new contract another guy moving up a couple of spots ramondre stevenson was my rb
18 he's now rb 16 probably like it seems like a minimum of two to three years that he's got left in New England now
but I would just put a little caution on that because it was and I fell for this as hard as
anybody there was a lot of talk about Miles Sanders contract in Carolina last year and the
length of time that guaranteed him and it turned out that it guaranteed him about six games as a
starter and then Chuba Hubbard took the job from him. So I don't want to put too much on this contract for Ramondre Stevenson.
But I think even outside of that, he's just a really interesting player to try to figure
out because this offense was so terrible last year that it's hard to hold the decrease in
efficiency against him.
The team put him in a situation last year to share with Ezekiel Elliott.
Zeke goes to the Cowboys. Antonio Gibson is now there. The one thing Gibson's been able to do in
the NFL is perform as a pass catcher, and Stephenson in the past two seasons has been
pretty awful in that regard in terms of yards per target. How are you viewing Ramondre Stephenson?
High-end RB2 just about right? I feel you got him right in the same spot.
I got him at RB17, so I split the difference
between your previous and your current one.
And it is because of that dimension of this Patriots offense
not being that good, not having that alpha in this offense, so to speak.
In fact, Antonio Gibson comes over from Washington.
He's perhaps the best pass catcher that the Patriots have.
I mean, yeah, you keep making for Pop Douglas there.
He's had a good training camp.
Believe the coach is what you will, but still Pop Douglas.
Then you've got Kendrick Bourne,
who may lead this team in touchdown receptions
if it's not for Hunter Henry.
And when I say touchdown receptions,
I'm talking maybe six leads this team again.
And then you've got the rookies.
You've got Polk and Baker.
I mean, there is opportunity here in the passing game for Gibson to take a very large chunk of this offense over which does kind of give me a little
bit of reason of concern there but if we watch anything from Ezekiel Elliott when Stevenson went
down last season we know that this team can produce in the running game and a running back can be
fast irrelevant for me I was big on Ramondre Stevenson last season going into it
because I didn't think Ezekiel was going to do much I know Stevenson can catch the ball when he's
asked to do so but he didn't quite give me what I wanted last year so he kind of slides down a
little bit in the rankings but this is an opportunity where he could be the top performer
for a very poor Patriots offense which Jacobyoby Brissett, he's kind of revitalized
some offenses from time to time.
He had a run there with Cleveland Browns where he looked pretty good.
I'm going to be even more optimistic than you.
So we've got a new coaching staff.
We've got a new offensive coordinator.
They've drafted a quarterback in the top three.
Drake May is their quarterback.
Let's say everything went right.
Like the Patriots, Drake, they hit it on the head again. They've got their quarterback of the future.
Drake May's good. The offensive system's good. The offensive line's better. Does Stevenson still
have top 12 upside if the offensive system around him is better? I think he very well might. I mean,
we're talking about a 26 year old running back he's in
that same area that if you look at for me from 13 to 17 Rashad White 25 Kyron Williams 23 Isaiah
Pacheco 25 Josh Jacobs he's 26 so they're all that same kind of age category where if he could get a
little bit of production I mean this could be one of those guys who rises up even further than you
already have them going up here right now by the end of the season if things go right I mean, this could be one of those guys who rises up even further than you already have him going up here right now by the end of the season, if things go right.
I mean, having a good young quarterback there, Drake May, who maybe checked out a touchdown
type thought process early on in his career could certainly help him.
Well, and I think that the first key for Stevenson is making sure that Gibson's on the field
as little as possible.
So he's got to win that battle in training camp this year,
but it sure seems with the contract extension,
they plan on him being their lead back for the foreseeable future.
Let's go to number three on the rankings risers.
It's another contract, but just a one-year contract.
T. Higgins was wide receiver 22, is wide receiver 19.
Seems like any risk of a holdout is pretty much gone. We still have this
big time question about where T. Higgins is going to play after the 2024 season. I'm not even so
sure. I think there's a pretty healthy debate, Matt. Would we rather him be Joe Burrows number
two alongside Jamar Chase, or do we believe that Tee Higgins could
go somewhere else and be a fantasy number one wide receiver and a team's number one wide receiver
I think we have to have him as a number one wide receiver I believe he could be a number one wide
receiver to have him here in the top 20 as where we have him I got him right with you Heath again
we gotta find some guys that we disagree on because I got Keith Higgins at wide receiver 19 as well.
So, I mean, we're right here.
I'm just catching up to you this month.
It is.
It is.
This is what I think.
If we have him here, we have to honestly believe
that he could be a number one wide receiver.
You can't have a guy be a number two,
permanently be a number two,
and still have him in the top 20
and believe that he can be all this potential.
You know what I mean?
We've seen what he's done when Jamar Chase has missed time.
So we know that he could perform as a number one with Joe Burrell.
So the question is, can he be a number one with Daniel Jones?
That's the question, right?
Be careful what you ask for.
Your quarterback might be Daniel Jones or Bryce Young.
Two, Carolina and New York, both struggled passing the ball last season.
Both teams were interested in Tee Higgins throughout this offseason.
So I do believe he can be a number one wide receiver.
I mean, I got Malik Nabors pretty high in my dynasty rankings as well.
So I do believe that Daniel Jones can make a wide receiver fantasy relevant
because he's going to force feed him.
But with T. Higgins, the talents there, the skills there,
everything you want in an alpha wide receiver, T. Higgins has,
and we've got the production to go along with it
when given an opportunity to do so.
It's just we haven't seen him with a subpar quarterback.
Jake Browning was even actually pretty good last season at times.
Well, the other thing, and we saw it last year with Higgins as well,
he's had a really hard time putting together a 16 or 17-game season
where he doesn't leave a few games with injury.
Has had a difficult time staying 100% healthy
and even playing through some stuff that has impacted his performance.
We saw that early in the year last year.
I guess that's a good time to just ask, like, what's your –
especially with younger guys where it seems to be kind of random,
what's your thought process on these guys?
Like, you can either look at it as, you know,
guys who have been hurt are more likely to be hurt,
or there's no such thing as injury prone.
I'm just going to ignore it.
For the most part, I'm going to ignore it,
especially with the younger guys.
If it gets older, like, say Keenan Allen's hamstring starts to fire up a little bit more,
30-some years old, cold weather in Chicago.
I mean, I think that factors into it as well, right?
I mean, you're like, okay, I know myself personally,
soft tissue injuries typically linger now for me for six, seven years.
So, I mean, these pro athletes, it's a few weeks, but I mean,
it is something a little bit older you get.
At these young guys' age, man, I mean,
I remember being 10 foot tall and bulletproof at 18, 19, 20, 22 years old.
Nothing could faze me.
I didn't even stretch before games.
And these guys have all the medical knowledge
and everything at their fingertips all the time.
So these younger guys, I'm not going to put the injury-prone tag on them.
When you get a little bit older,
when you start hitting that 30 years old type thing here,
when your hair starts to fall out, then we'll start to have that conversation about being
injury prone about how those injuries linger a little bit more so but right now i'm not too
worried about that so a lot of times what happens with my risers is just what we've talked about
uh somebody gets a contract extension somebody gets traded. In the offseason, there's some news that causes.
That's not the case with my fourth rankings riser. It's Jake Ferguson. And this is more just of a me
recognizing, I think I was too low on him in redraft and I might be too low on him in dynasty.
Listen, we've seen over the last five, six years with Dak Prescott, probably more,
probably every year of Dak Prescott, probably more, but probably every year
of Dak Prescott's career, the one thing this offense produces is a low end number one starting
tight end, whether it was Jason Witten or Dalton Schultz or Jake Ferguson, like that, that just
happens. And so I've always just kind of viewed Ferguson as a product of that. And as long as
he's with Dak and the Cowboys, he's going to finish somewhere
between tight end nine and tight end 14. And that's fine. But he is a 25 year old. And we've
talked a lot about the strong finish to the second half for CeeDee Lamb. What I don't know that
people realize is that when that started for CeeDee Lamb,
Jake Ferguson basically took off as well. It was as if they said, you know what,
let's just not throw the ball to anybody except for these two guys. And they were both fantastic.
Ferguson was on pace for 78 catches and 891 yards over his last 10 games. And then, oh yeah, we get to the NFL playoffs
and he catches 10 passes for 93 yards and three touchdowns.
And Dallas does nothing to improve the wide receiver core.
You can say they bring in Ezekiel Elliott.
That's their answer to fixing this offense.
I think there's a chance that Jake Ferguson
is just a top five tight end this year.
I don't know if I'd go top five, but I got him at number 10 with you as well I mean 25 years old you mentioned if you look at all those other tight ends that you'd be considering
in that same range TJ Hawkinson coming off that ACL injury he is 26 years old Mark Andrews 28
George Kittle 30 Travis Kelsey 34 Evan In 29. David Njoku, 27.
Pat Freremuth, probably the most comparable of them all.
He's 25.
So you look at this, that seems to be the sweet spot for age.
So usually we're like, okay, he's getting a little bit older.
He's 25.
Oh, no.
That's not the case for tight ends.
Mostly because tight ends don't usually develop until they're 23 years old.
Unless their name is Sam Laporta or Trey McBride.
Typically, they aren't going to develop. They're not going to develop until they hit that 25 years old
and you mentioned Zeke Elliott the best running back the Dallas Cowboys have after CD Lam it's
Brandon Cooks I mean Cooks is a serviceable wide receiver so I won't put any disrespect on his name
but then you got Jalen Tolbert who still hasn't done anything I love him I think there's upside
there I think there's potential in Jalen Tolbert then you got uh Ryan Flournoy or Flournoy I love him too I think he's
another good potential guy but it drops off after Brandon Cooks in that wide receiver room they you
mentioned it they didn't add anything so Ferguson is a de facto wide receiver two wide receiver three
in this Dallas Cowboys offense at worst and this Dallas Cowboys offense
has been very good passing the ball and the one thing Dak Prescott loves he loves himself a tight
end look at historically every tight end he's had has been productive you mentioned this I don't
know how you cannot have him as a tight end one moving forward and even in this season tight yeah
I think the tight end one part for sure it It's the question about is there enough upside?
And I think for Ferguson, his upside may not come from the player part,
but just from the situation part.
They're going to throw 600 passes.
Most of the time when we've seen a surprise top five tight end,
it's been the guy who's second on his own team in targets.
Ferguson seems to be projected to be second on his own team by most people and targets.
So I do think like, you're right.
It's probably not going to happen.
It's certainly more fun to imagine Brock Bowers or Dalton Kincaid or Kyle's pits doing it.
But I'd rather bet on Ferguson than the rookie.
And Ferguson was quite a bit better than Kincaid and Pitts were last year.
So I'm not, I think we might be overlooking him
just a little bit.
Let's take our second break
and then we'll get into three more Dynasty risers from Jim.

Okay, Matt.
You said we had to find some guys that we disagreed on.
And I've just got...
I've not looked at your ranking on these three guys.
But I've just got a feeling that after the break here,
I've found a couple of guys.
Because what I've found when I talk to just about anybody about dynasty rankings,
we talk about one through 12, and there's very little disagreement.
You get to 13 through 24, maybe there's a little bit of disagreement.
You get outside the top 25 at running back or wide receiver,
and everybody just loses their mind.
A guy could be ranked at 27th.
He could be ranked 42nd.
And we're going to start with one of those guys, Jamison Williams.
We have not seen the productivity yet,
but we're hearing more positivity out of the coaching staff about him.
He was my wide receiver 40.
This talks more about how close the guys are, I think, in the 30 to 40 range.
I've actually moved him up
to wide receiver 33, getting pretty excited if J-Mo can stay healthy about what he could do this
year. And he's still so young, just 23 years old. Yeah, the one thing that we know is Jared Goff
can hit that deep ball. We've seen that time and time again. He's one of the more accurate deep
ball passers in the league. Jamison Williams, he's got speed to kill, right? I mean, he's one of the more accurate deep ball passers in the league. Jameson Williams, he's got speed to kill, right?
I mean, he's one of the fastest guys in the league.
So it's a good combination, especially when you've got Sam Laporta
and Amonra St. Proud taking away coverage underneath,
which means more often than not, you're going to be one-on-one
with no safety with Jameson Williams.
So the potential is absolutely going to be there.
This is what he did at Alabama, catching those deep crossers,
those post patterns, and then he's taking him
to the house each and every time I got him at 37 so I'm kind of right in between there so I'm not
going to disagree too much on this 23 years old and in an explosive offense and the one thing that
you can make fun of Jared Goff over the last few seasons and this Lions offense is they've kind of
been that yeah in the dome there in Detroit they've been like a lion
right but when you get them outside they've been more like a house cat not really doing a whole
heck of a lot on the road except this year I think nine games are all in the dome or under a dome like
a lot of their games are traveling to this year are under a dome as well so we're going to get a
little bit more production in my opinion out of Jared Goff in this offense which means James
Williams is going to become more and more of the benefactor here when we take a look at what
fantasy production is going to be if you're looking for best ball absolutely this guy's a guy
who's going to crush best ball he's going to pop off for some huge weeks and there's going to be
some weeks where he probably doesn't give you the type of production that you want from the guy so
i mean if you're taking a shot you're getting him probably a little bit later on probably as your
wide receiver four for most of the time maybe wide receiver five if you're getting him probably a little bit later on probably is your wide receiver four
for most of the time maybe wide receiver five if you're lucky he's a guy who could be i'm not saying
he's going to be but he could give you wide receiver two numbers by the end of the year
thanks to those boom bust type weeks he's going to give you a little bit of similarity to trevor
lawrence here as well because like it was all about the potential of what he could be when
he was drafted. We knew coming into the NFL, the injury was going to have an impact on his
development. Then we had the suspension for the gambling. And so now hopefully we enter 2024
season, the first time we get to see Jamison Williams at full speed for a full season.
And I do still believe that elite upside is there. I think he
could be one of the, like you mentioned, better in best ball. I think that's the more likely profile
is that he's somebody that you really, he might frustrate you if you have to choose when to start
him. People used to get so upset with Tyler Lockett because he'd score three touchdowns one
week and then give you not very much the next. I don't mind those guys, but I also think that that's not the upside for Jamison Williams.
If everything goes right and he hits his true ceiling, he might be somebody that you're
just never considering sitting.
And this Lions offense might be terrifying for whoever they face.
Let's go to a low, low end running back.
Another guy where i thought you know
i'm probably just too low on this guy so it was just an adjustment ty chandler i'll be sharing
the vikings backfield with aaron jones back in may was my rb 73 still not super excited at rb 62 but
i want to ask you on chandler if something like we've seen Aaron Jones you mentioned
hamstrings we've seen Aaron Jones miss a bunch of time in his career and he's a 29 year old running
back what do you think Chandler's upside looks like if Jones misses a serious amount of time this
year I think we've seen what his upside looks like we've seen Chandler coming in and have success I
got him as RB 57 in dynasty because I think he's got that ability to be that guy we've seen it in small doses and if we've got our
quarterback situation between Sam Darnold and JJ McCarthy they're going to need to lean heavily on
that run game there in Minnesota whether that's Ty Chandler or Aaron Jones and I love myself some
Aaron Jones when healthy I don't think there's many backs better than aaron jones the problem is he hasn't been healthy you mentioned those hamstrings took
a lot of his season away last season he came in the playoffs went absolutely destroyed teams right
i mean we know what aaron jones is capable of doing well fast forward here to minnesota and i
mean let's not kind of bury ty chandler here just because Aaron Jones is moving in. We're talking about a running back who's still 26,
a little bit younger than Aaron Jones.
He's got a few more years to develop.
And it's not your traditional 26-year-old running back.
There's not a lot of – there's lots of tread still left on the tire,
so to speak.
Use a cliche.
He hasn't been used as a primary back like some of these other guys.
We talked about Ramondre Stevenson. Same
age category. A lot more wear and
tear on his body than maybe Ty Chandler.
The running style
works better for Tyler Chandler
to handle the rigors here in the game. He's
an excellent pass catcher. That's not going
anywhere. Even when they signed
running backs last
season, Alexander Madison was like,
Alexander Madison's going to be the number one running back here. What an opportunity. Madison can't catch the ball. It was Alexander Madison. We're like, oh, Alexander Madison's going to be the number one
running back here.
What an opportunity.
Madison can't catch the ball.
That was his thing.
So Ty Chandler, even when Madison came in or got that number one role,
sorry, he was always there, Ty Chandler was still going to be
that pass catching back.
Now, if Minnesota believes that they're going to be a contender,
they may kind of limit the touches for Aaron Jones a little bit.
And Ty Chandler may still have a significant role this season. to be a contender they may kind of limit the touches for aaron jones a little bit and ty
chandler may still have a significant role this season but long term i think chandler's fine he's
a guy you can take a throw a dart out here later in rounds like you said you had him at 73 you
moved up to 62 that's probably right around the consensus is around that rb65 type range for him
right now that's free that's a free back you're taking in your last couple rounds of a draft
why not take a shot at a guy who's behind a running back with a hamstring history who's got
some pass catching ability upside and so i think this is a good time also just like philosophically
we talk a lot on this show about how in dynasty you know if i'm not contending i don't want to
really roster running backs and if i am contending I'll wait and roster them in September. Like everybody's afraid they're going to lose
this value and they're running backs. And that's really true when you're talking about high end
running backs, especially running backs, 25, 26, 27 years old and older. But the flip side of that
is like looking through my rankings from a year ago, Kyron Williams,
Zemir White, Jerome Ford, Zach Moss, Devin Singletary, all guys who made big time impacts
last year, all guys who are top 40 dynasty running backs for me right now, none of those guys ranked
inside of my top 50 a year ago. And that wasn't just my fault. Most of those guys didn't rank out inside anybody's top 50. So while I don't really want to invest in the high-end running
backs in the off season, these guys like Ty Chandler and the next guy I want to talk about
are exactly the types of guys who just one injury, one week where they get the shot and then perform well can really cause a massive increase in value
and a nice opportunity to just turn a quick profit. You mentioned Tyrone Tracy was one of
your favorite rookie sleepers. I just moved him up. He's getting some positive buzz in camp.
Was my RB 78, is now my RB 70. My question for you, and I'm glad, glad you mentioned that
you like him because you can answer this for me. Is it, is there ever hope that he's more
than a third down back? He's the guy who was a wide receiver, very little experience running the
ball in college. Do you think that if if something i kind of view it as if
something happens to devin singletary it's probably eric gray and tracy splitting up the work but
tracy has a better chance to get on the field even when singletary is healthy yeah so i mentioned my
love for tyrone tracy here i got him at rb 49 in dynasty. So I have all the consensus. I love him.
It has everything to do with that pass catching upside.
It really does.
But I look at him very similar to what we saw from Antonio Gibson.
Wide receiver coming out of Memphis, going to Washington.
Remember, Antonio Gibson, when he got an opportunity to run the ball,
he actually had some good productive weeks as a running back
that didn't exactly include catching the ball.
So I think Tyrone Tracy, he's going to be fine. I hear a lot of good things here out of New York about him. had some good productive weeks as a running back that didn't exactly include catching the ball so
I think Tyrone Tracy he's going to be fine I hear a lot of good things here out of New York
about him that's not just catching the ball that's what he does best but that's not the only thing
that he does he's going to be able to have some success and I look at the running back position
like going to the car dealership right you go out there you get yourself a brand new state-of-the-art
model a Jameerer gibbs well guess
what the second you drive that thing off the lot it's lost some of its value i mean that's basically
what the running back but guess what you can go right over to the used car lot those those cars
have already lost value they've already depreciated you're getting a little bit cheaper and then you
go out and get yourself a guy like a brian robinson jr that people kind of forgot about
so for that's kind of how the running back position goes.
And kind of to your point there,
when you talk about the depreciation of the top end talent,
where running backs drafting late,
zero RRB strategy kind of guys,
where you're going out there and getting guys
like Aaron Jones, James Conner,
guys a little bit later
that are going to give you good value anyway.
So running backs are kind of like
going to the car dealership there
when it comes to depreciation and whatnot.
But Tyron Tracy now kind of comes full circle back.
I mean, I love everything he does.
I think the opportunity is what means the most.
I love Devin Singletary.
He's had success there in Buffalo sharing the backfield.
Then he went over to Houston and basically won the job over Damian Pierce there.
I think that was more scheme than it was actual talent. that devon singletary doesn't have the talent but
damian pierce is not meant for that type of scheme that the houston texans are at and they really fit
really well with what devon singletary can do now we fast forward to the new york giants still we
don't know what this is going to look like we know know it's Malik neighbors, but then we've got to cast the characters that involves who knows who's
catching the ball.
Like we've got a deep ball guy in Jalen Hyatt.
We got ourselves.
I don't even know who's playing tight end,
Theo Johnson,
Daniel Ballinger.
I mean,
who's going to be this guy to kind of take that underneath.
So there's going to be a role in this past catching game for Tyron Tracy.
He could be the number two wide receiver on this team next season. And I think we're going to see maybe a 60-40 split
in favor of Singletary. But I do think Tracy's going to get second down opportunities. I think
they're going to see what he can do in a three down role from time to time. So I would expect
to be a first, second, third down, not just strictly third down type responsibilities.
Awesome, awesome stuff.
I do want to sneak in one question here at the end,
because Matt, you mentioned you're putting together,
you put together a trade chart.
And I think that always interests me philosophically
in terms of how you balance out the values
for people who are contending this year
versus teams that are rebuilders.
It seems like some charts really favor the rookies.
Some are more,
especially at running back just based around what we expect from this,
them this year.
I wonder,
like,
how do you view that balance between how much does 2024 matter in your
dynasty trade chart?
I mean,
a lot of it is trying to project down the road.
You want to kind of project down the road a little bit.
I mean, that's what you do when we do a rookie draft.
So when I look at my trade chart, I do my kind of my dynasty rankings.
I kind of throw that out there.
And then I compare it to would I trade Michael Pittman
for a first round pick straight up?
If the answer is no, then I'm going to kind of put Pittman's value above
what that first round draft pick is going to be
and then kind of work my way back.'m going to kind of put Pittman's value above what that first round draft pick is going to be.
And then kind of work my way back.
So it's kind of that whole process.
What is your value versus next year's draft capital?
And what's your value versus the year after's draft capital? Obviously, we know if we're just heading into the 2024 rookie drafts, 2025 picks really don't mean a heck of a lot.
And 2026 picks mean absolutely nothing right now.
So you're really kind of comparing it to what the 104 is going to be.
Would I trade 104 for so-and-so?
Okay, so what's that going to look like?
Yes, I would.
So assuming that Roma Dunzey is going to be your number four,
that's your value of the 104.
Where do you put them with the rest of the guys in the wide receiver class
and kind of build it down from there?
So basically my trade chart is basically what I would do off of the draft
pick, which is again, not necessarily rookie favoring the rookies,
but it does have a little bit of favoritism towards some veterans too.
Like would you trade Tyreek Hill for a first? Well, no, probably not.
You probably want a little bit more than just a first round pick for Tyreek
Hill. So then that's where that value gets kind of baked in.
Awesome. Awesome stuff. As always, Matt, remind everybody one more time where they can find your work and what you've
got coming up. Yeah, so I've got all kinds of stuff coming up. I mentioned this trade chart.
It's going to be featured in a article there with Roto Baller once I kind of figure out how to get,
I mean, when I got this trade chart, Heath, you know what this kind of thing can do to you. It
could drive you nuts. I mean, it's something that's always changing all the time 395 players i have assigned a value to on this chart from quarterback all the way down tight
end premium super flex everything so it's kind of a beast of a thing plus the draft picks from this
year plus future draft pick values as well so i'm trying to find a way to kind of squeeze all this
into an article to kind of give the consumer there something to kind of really think about
so that's kind of the big thing i have another personal type fantasy football article
coming out probably close to the fantasy football expo kind of want to release it right around there
it's more about my personal journey in fantasy football more than anything so take a look at
that i'm still kind of on the fence whether or not to release that article or not because it's like
is it you don't know what you people are going to think about it. So it's kind of where it's at. And then obviously, Rotoballer Discord, Fantasy Points Discord.
And the Pro Forecast comes out here, I think, July 2nd on new shelves out there.
Fortunate enough, again, to be featured in that magazine,
doing some write-ups for team previews as well as the draft.
