Starting point is 00:00:00 Well, you don't have any football on a Thursday night, but you do have some breaking news. Le'Veon Bell reportedly going to the Kansas City Chiefs. That's according to Adam Schefter, and I will trust anyone named Adam. And anyone named Dave. Dave Richard is here to break it down. All right, Dave, who's the starting running back for the Chiefs going to be when Le'Veon Bell officially joins the team? We don't expect him to play this week, but who's it going to be in Week 7 and beyond? I think it's going to be Clyde Edwards-Hilaire still, but this is absolutely going to be
Starting point is 00:00:27 a two-headed monster between Edwards-Hilaire and Le'Veon Bell. And what does that mean for their fantasy values? Well, I think you can certainly assume that Le'Veon Bell's value is going to go up. He's going from an offense... Is it though? Because he's not a feature back anymore. Oh, he's going literally from the worst offense in the nfl to one of the best offenses and i know he's still going to split work but i i can't imagine he's not going to see eventually
Starting point is 00:00:55 10 plus touches per game and i wouldn't be surprised if we saw edwards a lair get around 12 plus touches per game so maybe edwards a lailler gets a little bit more than Le'Veon, at least to start. And then the Chiefs will evaluate it from there. But I tried going through the metrics with Edwards-Ziller to find something that he's bad at. He ranks very well in elusiveness. He ranks great in yards after catch per reception. He has zero drops this year.
Starting point is 00:01:20 He's 26th in breakaway runs. He's got four carries of 15 plus yards, but he's terrible in pass protection. It's a nightmare. And Le'Veon currently tied for first in the NFL in pass-blocking efficiency. Yeah, all right, so there you go. That's a good fit in that regard.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Bell, so let's say you were drafting again today, okay? Are these fourth- round and sixth round picks or something like that what are you thinking in a 12 team league no i bet they'd be closer than that to each other they it might be something along the lines of a of a third and a fourth round pick something like that but i i think this does take a hit to edwards elair andy reed's got himself a veteran running back who should be serviceable, if not good, in Le'Veon Bell. He's going to be able to get something out of him that maybe he just couldn't quite trust in Clyde Edwards-Hilaire, and that's just starting with pass blocking. Both of these
Starting point is 00:02:16 guys are good receivers out of the backfield. I think both these guys are still good runners, so he could mix and match these two. This an area where kansas city needed some some quality depth remember they're they don't care about your fantasy team they just want to win a super bowl again and so this is a way for them to do that now they've got a two-headed monster running back to go with this amazing pass game that they have and both running backs can contribute to that passing offense it's going to be a headache for fantasy managers as to who to start from week to week and who to to who to start from week to week and who to expect to be better from week to week.
Starting point is 00:02:47 And I don't think you have to have both running backs on your fantasy squad. Like if you've got Edwards-Alaire, you don't have to bend over backwards to try and get Le'Veon Bell on your team. I think Edwards-Alaire has decent standalone value, but he might be more of a high-end number two running back, which is what he's kind of been anyway.
Starting point is 00:03:03 And Le'Veon Bell's got a chance to really see his value tick up a little bit, probably into that number two running back, which is what he's kind of been anyway. And Le'Veon Bell's got a chance to really see his value tick up a little bit, probably into that number two running back range. But I'm saying these two guys, Adam, I'm sorry. If one of these two guys gets hurt, then you're talking about a number one running back in Kansas City. It's almost like what Cleveland has with Chubb and Hunt. Yeah, I'm just thinking like, I don't know if it's, is it really better for Le'Veon Bell?
Starting point is 00:03:24 Because, you know, last year he had one of the worst years, what most inefficient years for running back basically ever starting running back, got that much work, but you still were able to start him because he just got so much work. That's definitely not going to happen here. You know,
Starting point is 00:03:37 he should be more efficient. He should be. Yeah. I think you look at like, you look at the Sean McCoy, the Sean McCoy, everybody thought, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:43 he's pretty much done after 2018. He had a really bad year. Goes to the Chiefs in 2019. Right out of the gate, he gets 10 carries in Week 1. He gets 11 carries in Week 2. So that's 21 total. In those two games, Damian Williams had 22 total carries. So it was a very even split there.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Damian Williams was a lot more involved in the passing game than McCoy was. But still, what you had was a guy in McCoy who was probably worth rostering, but really never worth starting. Never got more than 12 carries. Got a lot of 8-carry, 9-carry. Those are useless games. That's what I'm worried about with Le'Veon Bell, that he's not going to have a big enough role.
Starting point is 00:04:18 And I'm worried that it's going to screw over Clyde Edwards-Elair, and we're going to have the best offense in football with no running backs that we can really rely on. They'd be like in the Daryl Henderson sort of group. Well, hope they score. Yeah, but at least Henderson is
Starting point is 00:04:35 splitting. I mean, this isn't at least. Henderson is splitting with, for now, two other guys. This should be the Kansas City run game moving forward. Edwards-Elair in most of the rushing situations i'm sure levion can mix and match with it and then when it comes to uh the two minute drill and certainly pass protection that's going to favor levion and they'd be nuts not to use levion in the passing game yeah okay so then let's do this clyde edwards hilaire rest of season or Kenyon Drake?
Starting point is 00:05:07 I'll go with Edwards-Elair because I'm worried about Drake just getting the bench. Clyde Edwards-Elair or Ronald Jones? Same thing. Edwards-Elair. But these are, you're naming a bunch of guys that I think are kind of middle to low end number two running backs, which is where, I think that's where Le'Veon's going to end up, is toward the bottom of the number two running back range. Clyde Edwards-Elair or David Johnson?
Starting point is 00:05:32 By volume, Johnson might actually have the upper hand there now. Raheem Mostert. Which is just gross. It's so gross to think of it that way. And I know this isn't what people want. Raheem Mostert. I'd go Mostert and and non PPR for sure. And in PPR, this is going to din the ceiling of Edwards, the learn PPR.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Yeah. This sucks, Dave. Okay. It really does. Look, we were talking about living on bell. Say what you will about him with the jets.
Starting point is 00:05:58 I think a lot of people had him projected to be like a number one fantasy running back at some point. He's not going to do that in Kansas city, unless Edwards, the leg insert. And now Edwards, the layer can't be a number one running back back at some point he's not going to do that in kansas city unless edward ziller gets hurt and now edward ziller can't be a number one running back there so this does suck and big question is who will be the goal line guy because so far it's been a bit of an issue for clyde edward ziller that could go to labian too we will find out probably in a couple of weeks we'll talk about it on the show tomorrow as we do start or sit for the nfc home games and
Starting point is 00:06:24 of course we'll open with this big news. We'll get Jamie's take on it as well. And we'll read your emails on the Mailbag Show on Saturday. Thanks to Dave Richard. I'm Adam Azer. Thanks for listening, everybody. Enjoy your Thursday night. We'll talk to you Friday.
