Starting point is 00:00:30 from CBS Sports. What a play! Can you believe this? No, I can. It's time to dominate your fantasy league. Off to the races, and he stays on his feet. It's just going to go the distance. Now here's some combination of Adam, Dave, Jamie, and Heath.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Hey, what's up? It's Mailbag time. Late night, Thursday, August 7th, 1038 p.m. Eastern Time. Welcome to the show, everybody. And if you're hearing this on Saturday, there's going to be some news and notes that are a little outdated, so we won't spend too much time on that. We'll talk about Rishon Slater, a little bit about Anthony Richardson, and that's about it. 49ers wide receivers updates as well. This is FFT, Fantasy Football Today, presented by BEDMGM, the sports book Born in Vegas.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Adam Azzer here with Jamie Eisenberg. Good evening. Jamie, what time you think he'll be going to sleep tonight? Oh, I'm going to try and catch up on a few of the. first couple drives, at least, for the preseason games just to make sure I saw everything. I just hope you keep things, you know, PC-related, G-rated. You know, we have some issues with people using some foul language on our shows. One time, one word.
Starting point is 00:01:47 A little concern. Just make sure everybody knows that, you know, family-related programming. Family-related programming, I had a slip up. I was a little frazzled. I had a shot of expressive just before the show. A lot going on. But if I do remember correctly, Adam had a slip-up or two that we document. No.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Yes, you did. You claim you didn't say it, but everyone who listens knows you did. And I don't think you were the only one. So you know what? Everybody has mistakes in this world. Everyone makes mistakes. I brought it back. It's finally back.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Where city field. And let me say this, Adam. It's a late night bag. It's the last bag before the match. How are you feeling? I played a little today. Yeah, I'm not feeling great about it. but I'm feeling, I'm feeling okay about it, actually.
Starting point is 00:02:30 You know, I feel like I have a 10% chance to win. And I feel like we need to, we need to raise some money here for St. Jude. So, listen, this is mailbag. I got some good questions about, you know, structuring your roster. A couple of Devon A-chan questions. Why are we not, why we not worried about his injury history? How, where would we rank him if we knew Tua was going to miss at least four games, that kind of stuff?
Starting point is 00:02:55 Geotene League question. I've got some really good. stuff. I got some Apple podcast stuff. And if you're watching on YouTube, we'll get to your questions at the end of the show. Also, someone said to me, someone wrote us an email and said, hey, your mock drafts that you guys talk about are the drafts that you guys do, they're not representative of what's going on, you know, in most people's drafts. So I think you guys should do just like pop into a random ESPN draft. So I said, I wrote back to the guy and I said, yeah, listen, we do drafts that are just listeners. We do those most, the Tuesday night that
Starting point is 00:03:25 maybe one of us is in there. But we've had other drafts that are just listeners. And we mostly use average draft position. We use ADP. We don't say, well, this guy's going here based on our draft. We use ADP, which we do that for a reason, obviously. But I thought there was some merit to it. So I am in a waiting room four minutes and 22 seconds away from joining an ESPN PPR 12 team mock draft.
Starting point is 00:03:47 I have absolutely no idea who's in it. But I will be mocking and we'll take a look at it throughout our show today. Let's do some quick notes, and then why don't we jump into the draftathon stuff, the ways you can join the podcast league, the ways you can appear on the FFT show on an episode, and the way you can co-manage a team with me or Dan, and also kind of bet on the tennis match that's happening next Thursday. But first, Jamie Rishon, well, Anthony Richardson has a dislocated finger. So I think we're going to talk more about this on Friday. If you're listening on Saturday, I know this is weird, but this is Thursday. right now. So wide receiver preview part two. Hopefully we have more information. But we all watch the Colts game today. Richardson really, I mean, nearly through an interception, didn't see that.
Starting point is 00:04:34 He didn't call out the right protection, it seems, on the play in which he got hurt. So wasn't great for him. I don't know. Do you hear your quick thoughts on the Colts quarterback situation? We're going to find out if he needs surgery. And that will probably determine who's going to be the Colt starter in week one. You know, the fact that he was trying to grip the ball on the sideline and, you know, throwing a couple passes. I think he threw a couple past. I know he's trying to grip the ball. It's clearly positive, but you never know until they, you know, reset it if it's
Starting point is 00:05:01 dislocated and how everything goes there. So if he's going to have surgery, he's obviously not going to most likely start week one. We already had a dislocation for a quarterback, Justin Fields, with his foot, his toe, and, you know, he was able to practice later that week. So you never know how these things work out, you know, once they put it back in place and everything is hopefully on par for Richardson to continue in the quarterback competition. But like you said, did not look great in the start of the game. It looked like he was played scared.
Starting point is 00:05:28 You know, I mean, some of the throws like he was short-arming it, you know, not necessarily let it rip, especially on the one you referenced where it looked like it could have been an interception. I was hoping to see more. You know, I was hoping to see, you know, however long they're going to let him go. But Daniel Jones didn't look great either. I think the one positive for the Colts passing game because they seemed to make an effort was Tyler Warren. And, you know, if Daniel Jones does start, that I think will be a benefit for Warren. Josh Downs didn't play, right?
Starting point is 00:05:55 No. Right. Jeff Schwartz, former offensive lineman NFL player, tweeted about it and was like, this is a day one empty production install. So it's kind of crazy that Richardson wasn't able to process that. At the same time, Jones completed less than 50% of his passes against backups. Looked horrible out there, I thought, as well. That is an ugly situation.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And they have so much talent around those quarterbacks. Their offensive line is projected to be a top 10 unit by Branden and Thorne and people who I trust with the offensive line evaluations, great receivers, Mitchell's cooking in camp, great running backs, Giddens, and even Cleal Herbert. Just kind of hard to project when the quarterback plate could be that bad. So let's talk about the chargers now with left tackle, Roshan Slater, out for the season with a ruptured Patelor tendon. They just gave him a huge contract.
Starting point is 00:06:42 I believe he's on average annual salary, the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL. So they've got Joe Alt who plays right tackle. They could move him to left tackle. They have Trey Pipkins, who's got a lot of experience. He'll be the new starting tackle, whether that's right or left side. But, you know, last year, Slater missed three games, and they were awful in two of them. They scored 10 points in both games, but they were against Pittsburgh and Kansas City. Week 18, he missed, and they scored 34 points at the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:07:10 But they struggled to run the ball in all three of those games. Anyway, Jamie, your reaction to the Roshan Slater news, and also I completely, I meant to look up how they did in 2020, because he only played a handful of games that year. So I'm going to look into that in a second. I forgot about that. But give me your thoughts on Slater and the Chargers offense. Yeah, obviously not great. You know, anytime you lose a standout offensive line,
Starting point is 00:07:32 and we know how that impacts teams across the board. So the only silver lining is there's still, you know, three weeks before the season starts so they can put a plan in place. Like you mentioned, you know, Joe Alt has been already talked about maybe moving to the left side. I wonder if they consider maybe putting Bechtin back at one of the tackle spots. I hope not. but a possibility just for a guy that's played there before. Maybe Alt goes to the left tackle.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Beckton goes to right tackle and they, you know, find another player to play guard. But I'm going to trust that it's going to be manageable. And I'm going to trust that the talent, you know, Dan just referenced the talent for the Colts without a quarterback. The Chargers have a lot of talent that they've put in place now with a quarterback. And I think the coaching staff there is smart enough to overcome some of these things. Obviously, Greg Roman's had situations where he's lost his left tackle
Starting point is 00:08:16 or offensive alignment throughout the course of his history. So not ideal. Obviously not what you'd like to see for Herbert, for Hampton, for Najee, all these guys there. But I'm not going to adjust my rankings to a point where I'm panicking yet. Unless, of course, you know, we see something in the preseason where they play those guys and it just looks absolutely abysmal. Yeah. So Slater played three games in 2022. And Justin Herbert only threw for 4,791 yards.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Now, I should, he only averaged 6.7 yards. He averaged 6.8 yards per attempt. They threw 711 times. So it wasn't the most efficient. Keenan Allen averaged... It's such a different offense with Kellynne Moore, though. Yeah, but one of the reasons they threw for so many yards is they must have led the NFL in past attempts. They had to be up there at least.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Austin Echler averaged 4.5 yards per carry. He was probably the number one running back in fantasy. He had 107 catches. He had 13 rushing touchdowns. So they were very good for fantasy even without Slater for all the three games. This hurts Hampton and Nogie the most, to be honest, in the run game. Just the cohesiveness of it. And Slater was really good at getting to the second level in the run game.
Starting point is 00:09:24 All right. Let's go through the rest of the news. You know what? I'm going to leave the rest of the news for tomorrow. For Friday show. Yeah, for yesterday or tomorrow, depending on what you're watching or listening. I'm traveling on today on fantasy football today. But those are the big items right there.
Starting point is 00:09:38 All right. Draftathon. Tiny URL.com slash 2025 fFT. Very important. Go there and help raise money for St. Jude. We still have some things that you can purchase, but what you really should be doing is scrolling down a little bit and clicking on View Auction House. And here, oh, crap, I forgot about my mock draft. Oh, gosh, I probably auto. This is the worst idea ever. I didn't
Starting point is 00:10:03 give up this like two minutes before recording. I do this is going to be a struggle. I'm already late, I'm late to the party. Oh, gosh. Did you get out of picked? Oh, I don't know. He's definitely got auto. Now, I can't even get in. I can't even get in. You can go to the auction house and see the single worst headshot of any person that was ever taken of me for my individual call. Yeah, so listen, we have Zoom calls with me, Dave, Jamie Heath, Jacob, Gibbs, Dan Schneier, Jacob. Can I make a suggestion, Adam? Hold on. Yeah, you can do it, but maybe when I'm done speaking. Fair, fair. You can join our podcast league. You can join Heath's Dynasty League. We're almost up to $2,000 for a spot in that Dynasty League. Podcast League, we got a spot for $633. We have another spot that doesn't even.
Starting point is 00:10:46 have a bid yet. So there's two different podcast leagues you can join here. We have three spots that don't have bids yet. So get in there, four spots that don't have bids yet. Wow, there are six spots in the podcast league that you can join. There are two spots in the Dynasty League. There's the Draftathon League with a bunch of industry experts. And then there's the tennis match. All right? So there's the rematch. Dan beat me 6-2-60 last year. I'm back for vengeance. It's going to happen Thursday, August 14th, 4 p.m. We're going to live stream it. on YouTube. We're going to have Jamie and I hope Dave and Heath commentating.
Starting point is 00:11:21 I'm going to invite my tennis captain of my tennis team to join you guys so he can actually drop some tennis knowledge. I like that. We have some surprise guests too. I'm sure you will. I'm sure. But the way to... Maybe even in person at the tennis match.
Starting point is 00:11:35 No. But the way you can donate to St. Jude and be a part of this is to join Team Dan or Team Adam. If you're on Team Adam and I win, if you're on Team Adam, if you're on Team Adam, if you're on Team Adam and you have the highest bid, you're a co-manager with me in the FFT League. Same thing with Team Schneier. But the winner of the match gets to
Starting point is 00:11:54 swap draft spots, right? Yeah. And then swap picks in the third round? Yes. Okay. All right. So anyway... That was if you guys are randomly back to back. Which could be huge. Last year it didn't matter as much because we were pretty close drafting, but it could be huge. My suggestion
Starting point is 00:12:10 Adam is we let, because last year, Heath set a really good line on the match. He set the line that you would have two and a half games total at two and a half over under and you won two games i think you should be bidding if you bid on team adam you get it with the spread get it with the spread yeah instead of just picking you to win you get it with the spread just to make it a little what's the spread we have to have heath set the spread again i can't believe you put this picture up i hate this picture it's just taken when i first joined the company and it's the only edge that i guess that
Starting point is 00:12:41 is available but again i think that we should do it with the spread i think it's a It's a more competitive way to do it. No, offense, Adam. I just don't think you're going to beat me. No, I don't think I'm going to beat you either, but I'm curious. You should feel confident. Don't think going to win thinking you're going to lose. That's terrible.
Starting point is 00:12:56 Dude, why can't I get to this stupid mock draft room? It's starting to really piss me off now. I think there's a better mugshot of you if Thomas can pull it up of when you dropped your air conditioner. Oh. Last week, that's definitely a better phone of the issue. All right. We'll come back to that.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Let's read a, let's read an email here. This is from Zach. What a mess of a human being I am. But I will beat Adam in the match. Yeah. But, you know, maybe you won't. All right. Maybe I won't.
Starting point is 00:13:24 It'll be the greatest upset of all time. Question from Zach. We're going to have a heckler live in person. Oh, I love that. That'll impact Adam way more than me. You're not going to. The last time we played at your private courts and those guys were screaming like three courts away and then I made that.
Starting point is 00:13:40 I would prefer this headshot, honestly, to the one that I, that's up there right now. I like this picture of myself better, but if you're watching on YouTube. But, Adam, don't you remember there was two guys grunting and yelling? And then I said like one thing and you were like, be quiet. It's my private club. I'm like, dude, these guys are screaming. That was your private club last year? No, it's not a private club.
Starting point is 00:14:03 I mean, kind of a private club, I guess. Yeah, we were at my tennis club. That place is nice. Adam is bougie. That place is real nice. No, we're not going to the same place this year. I know. We're going indoors this year.
Starting point is 00:14:13 I don't belong to this place. All right. definitely coming. Question from Zach. Oh, I love that. I'm picking second in a half PPR league, one quarterback, two wide receivers, two running backs, one flex. It doesn't say there's a tight end. I have the second pick, and one one will be chase. I'm locked in on Bajon Robinson. After Bajon Robinson, I don't love any of the wide receivers at the two, three, turn, or even at the four or five turn. My best mocks, in my opinion, I've taken Robinson, Kyron Williams, and then I'm reaching for either Hampton or Chuba Hubbard at the two, three
Starting point is 00:14:45 return. Then at 4-5, I love taking Laporta and reaching for Travion Henderson and having a stranglehold of running backs and having a top five tight end. I know it sounds crazy to take four running backs with my first five picks. And by the way, he can only start three of them. But I know my league and I'll be able to trade one of those backs for a stud-wide receiver later in the year. I've never tried this strategy and I know come draft time, it's going to be hard for me to do this. But when I finish most of my mocks, I'm in love with my team. So I'm asking for help from you guys are your input, and I usually come away with the likes of Chris Godwin, Calvin Ridley, Brandon Ayuk, and Kyler Murray to fill out my roster in those mocks.
Starting point is 00:15:21 Love what you guys do for St. Jude, and I would be supporting if I didn't have a wedding wedding coming up in October. Well, congratulations, Zach, and that's awesome for you, and I hope nothing but love and happiness for you in your future. All right, so what do you think about this, Jamie? He goes, Bejan Robinson, then running back, running back, then tight end, and Trevion Henderson, four running backs with his first five picks, and he is Sam Leporta. And you can only start three of them.
Starting point is 00:15:45 Yep. And his idea is I'm going to trade one of them for a stud wide receiver. I just think it's a little overkill, knowing that there's still going to be guys you can target a little bit later. So it's almost the reverse of hero RB strategy where you load up on wide receivers and then sometimes you find yourself not necessarily able to draft some of those mid to late round wide receivers because you need to get a little too much running back capital. it's the same way in reverse here. I think I would just probably take, if you want to go with the running back, every approach,
Starting point is 00:16:18 the robust running back, I think is what we call it. Just don't take the fourth one. I mean, obviously don't reach for a wide receiver there, but sort of play the board a little bit with if you want to take three running backs in a row because the value is great,
Starting point is 00:16:30 because especially if you're picking at the front of the draft, and you can get, I don't know the names that you listed, but you get Robinson and some combination of Jacobs, Taylor, uh, Bucky, Chase Brown, Karen Williams, if you like two of those guys,
Starting point is 00:16:46 I mean, that's a hell of a start. And then you come back in round four and you could be looking at a D.K. Metcalf, Cortland Sutton, maybe Marvin Harrison, you know, those type of receivers. Like, I like that build a little bit better and you can still take a tight end and just wait.
Starting point is 00:16:58 You know, Kyler's a perfect quarterback. So that's the way I would go. I think this is, I wouldn't call it overcoat. So the idea here is you're drafting these running backs to trade them. At least that's his perception of what will happen. But you're taking two rookies. and he describes them as reaching for these two rookies. I don't know if the timeline works out.
Starting point is 00:17:16 So if you're looking to trade these guys, these rookies typically tend to, I mean, not always, but tend to hit their stride later in the season. By that point, you'll have lost the opportunity to trade them for your wide receivers. And you say you still come away with the likes of Godwin,
Starting point is 00:17:28 Ridley, Ayuk. That doesn't make me feel confident at all. Not two of those guys. Yeah. What you said? Not two of those guys. Not two of those guys.
Starting point is 00:17:35 You want to call away the Godwin and Iyuk. You might not have a wide receiver in week one. Right. Right. So. Yeah, look. We talked about there's good wide receivers, you know, you could get Calvin Ridley and Pierceall.
Starting point is 00:17:47 I was going to say Ricky Pearson, I just always default to him. But who are the other guys in that, you know, Jacoby Myers is no. It was Cooper Cup. It was like deep as same as Matthew Golden. Yeah, but yeah, it's overkill. All right, next question here, and we'll take a break in a moment. This is from Ethan. I'm writing in because I'm confused about your take on Devon A-chan versus other running
Starting point is 00:18:07 backs today are on Thursday, maybe probably Wednesday. You mentioned that you have pushed McCaffrey down in the rankings due to injury concern, but with A-chan, you have to worry about his injuries and Tua's. Why is that not more of a concern? Isn't A-chan too risky to take him so early? And then the next question, Dan, was from Scott. And he said, if you knew Tua would miss at least four games, where would you draft A-chan? P.S., if you're playing Dan in tennis, kick his butt.
Starting point is 00:18:35 That's not written in there. Oh, it was 100%. Oh, I do see that. If you're playing Danny. Well, he is playing me in tennis. not only will he not kick my butt he doesn't believe in himself he's like i gave myself a 10% chance to win i don't even want to spread it's just like dude have some confidence in your own self i'm really worried about you getting heckled to be honest i don't know if you can withstand a hat
Starting point is 00:18:55 i really don't i don't know if you're built no i'm not i'm definitely not yeah mentally i not quite when you had to go for that like mid set bathroom break it totally rattled you you like couldn't find the bathroom you're like walking for five minutes and everyone watching the stream last year was like, dude, why don't you just go in the woods? Like, there was literally a woods right next to the court. But that's neither here or there. To answer the question, it's different because, like, there is some hope that Zach Wilson can be a little bit better with Mike McDaniel than that slew of
Starting point is 00:19:25 quarterbacks that he threw out there last year to totally stymied the offense. Maybe he can get the ball to A. Chan in those passing situations where A. m is really dominated as a receiver out of the backfield. But I would think that without Tua on the field, he definitely drops into the RP2 range and maybe back end. Okay, Jamie. If he said he's going to miss four games, I don't know if he would drop to the RB2 range.
Starting point is 00:19:46 I think he would certainly fall behind Genty and Henry for me and probably Jacobs. And so in that Taylor, Brown, Kyron, Chase Brown mix, just because
Starting point is 00:20:04 obviously those other guys have a chance to be pretty special too. But again, I wouldn't. necessarily want to overreact to four games. But if you say he's already going in missing four games, like let's just say he got hurt now in camp and you know he's missing four games, there's a chance of been missing more than that. But if we're just limiting it to four games, I wouldn't want to panic. I think the question was really posed to Heath because he has
Starting point is 00:20:26 McCaffrey concerns. You and I don't add him. I don't know where you come out of it, Dan. I don't think you do. So Heath was the one that was saying that he's pushed McCaffrey down because of injury concerned. Maybe it was in regard to your very illustrious poll question on X, where you just phrased it perfectly. Oh, he was, who's a,
Starting point is 00:20:48 do you think that Sequan Barclay is safer just in terms of injury risks than Christian McCaffrey? I mean, I don't know exactly where the, the question's coming from from the Wednesday conversation, but I think just in terms of A. Chan's injury concerns with himself and his quarterback versus McCaffrey's
Starting point is 00:21:05 injury concerns with himself as a quarterback, I think at this point, you have to just factor in, like, what's your risk reward level? You know, so for me, if McAfree plays the majority of the season, he's going to be in the RB1 conversation. If A-chan plays the majority of the season with Tua, he's going to be in the RB1 conversation. That's why those guys are top seven overall picks for me. So I'm just excited about the upside for them. I'll deal with the risk of it.
Starting point is 00:21:28 If it's going to cost me, then I swung for the fences and I missed. And if I can't, you know, recover in some way, shape, or form. I mean, I had a lot of McCaffrey shares last year, and I want a few of those leagues, regardless. So hopefully the waiver wire can still be your friend. All right, we're going to take a break. And when we come back, we have more of your emails at Fantasy Football at CBSI.com. We also have Apple podcast questions, YouTube questions, and of course, draftathon questions. You're, you know, for those of you who are kind enough to donate to St. Jude, we will certainly read your questions. We'll be right back on FFT.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Let me tell you, if there's a surefire way to wake up feeling fresh after drinks with friends, it is with pre-alcohol. Zbiotics, pre-alcohol, probiotic drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic. It was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking. Here's how it works. When you drink, alcohol gets converted into toxic byproduct in the gut. It's a buildup of this byproduct, not dehydration. That's the blame for those rough days after drinking.
Starting point is 00:22:25 Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this byproduct down. Just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night. Drink responsibly and you'll feel your best tomorrow. I first gave Z-biotics a try and my brother's wedding last weekend. I had a big night ahead, dinner, dancing, drinks, and a best man speech. So a little extra on the drinking front. But I did have a Z-biotics before it all started. Honestly, I was a little bit skeptical.
Starting point is 00:22:51 But the next morning, we were up and out the door for an 8.30 tea time. Me and my brother, no problem. It was crazy. I felt sharp and ready for the day. Now it's something I reach for. Whenever I know the night might be going long, it's bioengineered to help you feel your best the next day. Have a pre-alcohol before your next big night. You'll be glad you did. Summer is here, which means more opportunities to celebrate the warm weather. Before that backyard
Starting point is 00:23:16 barbecue brew, glass of pino, watching the sunset at the beach, or cocktail by the campfire, don't forget your Zbiotics pre-alcohol. Drink one before drinking and wake up feeling great and ready to take on the next day. And all that summer has to offer. Go to zbiotics.com slash FFT to learn more and get 15% off your first order when you use FFT at checkout. Zbiotics is backed with 100% money back guarantee. Starting point is 00:23:55 The next question comes from Matt K from Tampa Bay. That's a fun little rhyme there. um i'm curious how each of you historically finish in the leagues that you play in together does anyone have an average uh ranking of where adam dave jamie and heath have finished over the years we'll throw dan in there too only leagues that all four or five of you are in we should do some kind of stats on that at some point i don't think we have any numbers on that i can certainly go back and look um so if you want to remind me during the season because it's obviously a little yeah let's do that at some point i'm curious yeah um i would you know it's
Starting point is 00:24:33 It's a round robin of, you know, rotating people who've won. You know, there's obviously not just the, we don't play in six-man leagues. So, you know, we have other coworkers that have won these leagues. So who's had the most success rate? I'm trying to think like of FFT, our FFT league. Dan's only been in these leagues, you know, a handful of years. Right. To factor him in.
Starting point is 00:24:56 But like our magazine league, which we're no longer doing, our IDP league, which Dan's not. You know, like there's not a lot at this point. count the dynasty either because that's just like i took over like an orphan team yeah but that's even like the dynasty league dave's not in big burger adam don't yolo you know so there's i can answer this question and i just don't i'm sure there is an answer but it's not obvious because i we all have some success we all have some teams that don't do so well you know you could be better than someone at fantasy football and not necessarily do better in your leagues because obviously there's injuries and and just bad luck.
Starting point is 00:25:33 There's a ton of variants in fantasy football. Yeah, so there's really, I only read that because we get that question a decent amount, and I really don't think any of us, it's not like any of us go out there and just dominate the leagues that we're in, so. No, nor would I think anybody expects one of us to do that, because we're all in some way, shape, or form pretty much along the same wavelength, you know, so there's little variance. Obviously, Heath's a little bit different than Dave and I, Dave and I.
Starting point is 00:26:01 have a lot of similar rankings from time from from year to year different strategies though i think just how we get there is how you build yeah i think the the one thing i'll say this all the time it takes skill to make the playoffs it take luck to win championships you know so i think that's fair you could be very smart of what you do you could be smarter playing the waiver wire you're still going to need luck to to get that title there were enough weeks i would love some teams some leagues do the two week playoff matchups it's just there's not enough weeks for it but it really does take some of the luck out of it if you All right. Jason from somewhere in Ontario, Canada. Dave's not here, so we have no idea. Longtime listener, love the show.
Starting point is 00:27:07 I still laugh when I think about the spider episode, L.O.L. Do you remember the spider episode, Jamie? Apparently, I saw a spider and it scared the crap out of me, like right in front of me? I don't. I don't remember the spider that happened to us on fantasy football today on HQ. You're scared of spiders, Adam? there are so many in my house that I've stopped being scared of them for the most part spiders don't get me as a kid they did I don't know what happened I think I remember that one
Starting point is 00:27:36 the one that happened to me on FFT was I was I'm hosting the show and it's crawling on the desk and it was a big one and so like I'm kind of like maneuvering my chair so I'm like not to it was like it wasn't so like it didn't jump on my lap because it was like right around the desk and Dave and Heath are like what are you doing live on the air I'm like there's a spider right there. Oh, I'm on deck, by the way, with my second pick. I didn't know that's like that. You're finally not getting auto-drafted.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Well, I joined a Yahoo League because I couldn't figure out how to get in the ESPN. Oh, look at this. I'm 19th overall. Drake London and Jonathan Taylor just went. So wait, who am I missing here? It's A.J. Brown. What was your first pick? Bejohn Robinson had second overall.
Starting point is 00:28:18 All right. There's got to be someone. I'm just going to, I think I'm just going to take A.J. Brown. I think AJ Brown. He's a good value there. That's great. Yeah. AJ Brown.
Starting point is 00:28:28 But I usually take him 18. He's going 19th here. But Taylor and London both went. So I'm no. I'm just wondering who the other player that I'm missing someone in my top 18. Maybe I only have a top 17. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:41 I have a top 17. Eight running backs, nine receivers. Okay. AJ Brown, second round. Okay. I'll show the draft later if anyone's curious. But I just wanted to see how things looked. It looks pretty normal so far.
Starting point is 00:28:53 So, oh, the question from Jason is, what are your favorite guillotine league settings, optimal roster position, scoring, waiver process, trades versus no trades, any other tidbits you have for guillotine leagues? No trades. Waiver wire is too good. You don't think you need to. Waiver process should be fab, for sure, because you don't have to have people policing it in some way, shape, or form. It should not be first come, first serve until Sunday morning or Saturday. depending on how you do it, but it should definitely be a full waivers process multiple days to give people time to spend whatever they want to spend on what's going to be a very good
Starting point is 00:29:32 waiver wire. I think it's, you know, any, any roster, position limits are, you know, totally personal preference. The ones that I played in are two running backs, two receiver, two flex, so with tight-in. So you're just, you know, a couple, an additional flex spot to give a little bit more flexibility, no pun intended. It should be 18 teams, you know, so everybody plays till the end. And yeah, I don't know what else to say about. I definitely like fewer starting positions, as Jamie mentioned. One thing I've never tried for 18, and I'm in a few G18 leagues now.
Starting point is 00:30:06 I really like the format. I am curious how it would go Gatine Auction League. I think that would be a lot of fun and interesting and change so much of like you'd have so many different options strategically. How do you want to spend your budget, knowing that you have free agency to work with? So I would be curious if anyone's running one of those leagues or if anyone's done one of those leagues, let me know how that's gone because I think that'd be a lot of fun. Next email. Thank you very much, Jason. This comes from Steeler 3275.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Our league changed our scoring format. We got a roommate. Oh, we got a roommate. I saw someone lurking in the shadows there. Our league changed the scoring format from 6 point to passing touchdown to 4 point passing touchdown. Does this impact your top 12 quarterback rankings? I understand that this will push up the quarterbacks who run a lot, but how many make your top 12, Jamie?
Starting point is 00:31:05 I missed it again. Okay, it's just at his camera. There'll be no more of that. No more insight into my personal. There's way too much of my person like on the show. I can't figure out what that picture is, like, off the fridge. Don't worry about what that picture. Enough.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Okay, I need to change. Once again, I have background. What's on top of your refrigerator? It looks like baseball cards or something. It's a, it's a Giants card set. Nice. It's the only thing I have going for me here. What was the question again?
Starting point is 00:31:34 I'm sorry? Top 12 quarterbacks in four point per passing touchdown leagues. Oh. Yeah, you move up field, strike May, those types. The top three stay the same, you know, and for me, Hertz goes above Burrow. So I have Burrow 4, Hertz 5, so Hertz will be four. Fields gets pushed up to QV7 for me behind Mahomes ahead of Baker
Starting point is 00:31:56 and Drake May is in the top 10. Kyler Murray. Kyler Murray would be after. So I would go top five same. Mahomes still six, Field seven, Kyler 8, Baker 9,
Starting point is 00:32:13 Nick's 10, May 10, Knicks 11. And Probably Purdy, 12? I just did my rankings for the first time, my quarterback rankings. Josh Allen,
Starting point is 00:32:32 Lamar Jackson, this will be for four point. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Jaden Daniels, Jalen Hertz, Joe Burrow, tier break, Mahomes, Murray,
Starting point is 00:32:40 Purdy Fields, tier break. Then I got Mayfield, Herbert, May, Lawrence, Dack. I really like Dack, Lawrence,
Starting point is 00:32:47 and May. It looks like above ADP. Nix is down for me. Okay. This one is from, oh, actually, hold on one second. I don't know who this one's from. Just kidding. It's from.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Eric. There it is. Good morning. A little late. I know. Peter, Michael, Jack, and Mary. Peter. Oh, I know.
Starting point is 00:33:11 I googled it. Oh, you Googled it. That doesn't mean you know. It means you looked it up. But what was the answer? Three men and a baby. Or three men. and a little lady, I assume, as well.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Don't you know somebody who was in that? Yes, my friend, pretty good friend of mine in high school, Robin, she was the little lady and three men and a little lady. I've never heard of it. Yeah, listen to this all-star cast. It's Ted Danson, Steve Gutenberg, and who is the third guy? Goot. Oh, my God. Tom Seleck.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Tom Seleck. Yeah, the main guy. And I can't remember the name of the woman. like the love interest. Oh, yeah. But anyway, where the hell were we? Okay, for a minute of the baby. When do you decide your draft strategy?
Starting point is 00:34:01 I've gone into mocks thinking I'm going hero or zero RB, but then I end up taking two or three, two out of my first three picks being running backs. I feel like I'm going best available in all drafts. And if I do that, what round do I start focusing on my open positions? And how does this change in two receiver versus three receiver, Dan? So I like to go in with no set strategy as far as drafting positions.
Starting point is 00:34:22 I want to have the flexibility to draft the best possible players. With that said, I play in a lot of PPR leagues and half PPR leagues. And in those formats, I do believe that it is a race to building your flex out with wide receivers. I think you have an advantage to having a receiver in the flex. In recent years, it hasn't played out that way. And I am open to the idea that with the NFL changing and so many teams playing that Fic Fangio offshoot of his defense with two safeties high, cover three, cover six, cover two, some variation of that.
Starting point is 00:34:50 We are going to see running backs have more value in fantasy, but I also think we had a historically healthy year for running backs last year that is very unlikely to repeat itself this year. Already seeing some of those guys injured, Joe Mixen, for example, already dealing with injuries and who knows what that situation is going to be. So I think I do lean toward receivers and filling that out early. One thing I always have strategically in my drafts is I really don't. I prioritize filling my flex before my quarterback or my tight end. And that's just something I've always done.
Starting point is 00:35:19 This year, maybe I'll take Bowers. Maybe I'll take McBride because I like them both a lot. But if not, I'm passing on the Leportas of the world, the kiddles of the world. I just don't like the opportunity costs that I lose out from a receiver standpoint there or running back. I wish sometimes people could see our private chat because this is very funny about. So Thomas writes, to be fair to Dan's roommate, he's blocking the room. It is true. It's really unfairly.
Starting point is 00:35:46 So Dan says, I have no options. It's either here, it's either a here record from my toilet. Oh, God. I mean, my room is shaped like a toilet, and so much so that it was referred to as a toilet. And I got sick of that. So I was like, all right, let's bring it out here. And this room isn't going to be done for this. They started working on this room in January.
Starting point is 00:36:13 It's August. I don't know when this construction will be done. The guy came by, like, last week, he's like, oh, yeah, I'm so sorry. It's been really stressful, but, like, we'll get back on it next week. And this is next week. Guys, can I tell you something? I have no idea what the scoring format is in this draft. This has gone off the rail.
Starting point is 00:36:32 This late night, we can't do late night mail bags. We are to delineas. No, we should do them all the time. Late night bag. This is from Charles. Just don't ever call that again, please. Charles, it's a very. long and good email.
Starting point is 00:36:45 If I had time, I'd read it all. I just comment. It's important. Poor guy is starving. I can't hear what you just said. What did you just say? This comment. Poor guy is starving.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Dance really. I can't goodbye. All right. The question from Charles is, are we relying too much on per game stats? And one of the things he brings up is, is Mike Evans and Chris Godwin per game stats. stats and when one of them gets hurt it's going to help the other ones you know per game
Starting point is 00:37:17 stats but that's why i always azer stat charles that's why i always tell you that mike evans was wide receiver 26 or something like that per game during the six games he played with chris goblin now i do have more to say about that three of those games were horrible games one of them was against patrick sur tan and one of them was against new orleans and he never does well against new orleans and in three of those games he scored more than 20 fantasy points so i you know we'll talk about that extensively on the wide receivers preview part two or you're listening on Saturday. We already talked about that extensively on the wide receivers preview part, too.
Starting point is 00:37:47 But I believe in per game data more so than overall data because I don't think I'm going to sit here and act like Drake London was a top five receiver. And Garrett Wilson was a top five receiver because both of them, were they both? Yeah, Garrett Wilson, no, he was ninth, sorry. But Drake London was wide receiver four. And I'm not going to sit here and act like he was wide receiver four. He was wide receiver 14 per game. So I will stick with the per game stuff.
Starting point is 00:38:16 It's not perfect. I do think you need to mention both. I should probably do a better job mentioning both. But, Jamie, where are you at on that? I tend to go to per game data as well. I think it's just a better representation of what they did throughout the course of the season versus the total points. Because, you know, you can have a, you know, it's almost like the career thing. You know, Frank Gore had a great career and had a lot of great seasons.
Starting point is 00:38:41 but he cobbled together a lot of numbers, you know, so I don't know if that's the best example, but you know what I mean? Like, you can have some, some solid games, but I want to see what you did for the most part on a per game basis. And that's why we know when we break apart season. Like we were talking about Ladd-McConkie, for example, the other day with Keenan Allen signing. And his end of season, his final nine games, including the playoffs, he was over 20
Starting point is 00:39:05 PPR points per game. Yeah, pretty good stuff. Okay. Like, you know, to your point, like the Evans numbers. Like, and again, it goes the other way, like the Evan's stuff. You know, he wasn't great in those first six games, but there's reasons for it. Okay, so question in the chat real quick, just so I don't miss it. Adam, can we get a definition of a guillotine league?
Starting point is 00:39:26 We're all wondering. Yeah, guillotine league is usually 18 teams draft, and then the lowest scoring, you don't play head-to-head. The lowest scoring team each week is out, eliminated from the league. and that team's players become free agents. Well, they go on waivers. So if you're still, if you're alive and the Bajon Robinson team lost in week one, everyone's got a chance. It usually do an auction or they usually do fab.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Everyone's got a chance. And you just keep going and just try not to be the lowest scoring team every week. All right, I got to take one more break. I used to have the function and ability to highlight a good chat that I liked. Who took that away from me? Is that you, Thomas, behind the scene? Did Adam take that away from me? I don't think so
Starting point is 00:40:10 I used to be able to put it You may have lost that when you curse on this show Wow Oh my God I can't believe everybody knows about this already I'm going to read two more real quick here And then we're going to take a break Okay
Starting point is 00:40:25 The strategy with going late at the onesie positions Is getting two guys This is from Oh this is from another Eric Talk about how you have You're wasting two You're using two roster spots
Starting point is 00:40:37 on quarterbacks or tight ends, instead of, you know, wide receivers or running backs that could be lottery tickets or flex plays. Aren't you more likely to win that way? So late round picks and the drafts are cheap, but season-long bench spots are expensive, especially in bi-weeks. So something to think about, Dan,
Starting point is 00:40:55 with drafting two of the onesie positions. Yeah, I, when it comes to the onesie positions, I feel like the whole value of taking the guys up top is that you don't have to, like, part of the, I should say is that you don't have to have a bench player at that position, though quarterback has proven that wrong. Like, over the last three years, these elite quarterbacks have really outscored the competition. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:41:19 I don't know where I stand on that one. So I'll give you a couple examples. I think you're headed down the path I would have gone, which is if you're spending an early round pick on a quarterback, you are trusting that player to be elite. And to spend another pick on, and the guy that's going to come up a lot in these conversations the example is going to be somebody like Jared Goff, who has the chance to be 20 to 22 points per game, which will be in the top 10 conversation. And there are obviously going to be a lot of spike weeks for him? But are you ever going to play Jared Goff, no matter how well he's performing
Starting point is 00:41:51 over a Jaden Daniels unless he stinks or Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson? Again, those guys have to probably get injured for you to play Jared golf. I think it's better to take two quarterbacks or two tight ends if you wait on the position because now you've invested the first 10 to 11. to 12, 13, however deep year draft is on those lottery ticket type players. And then you're waiting on quarterback. So to take two of a Drake May and Justin Herbert or Trevor Lawrence and Kyler Murray, you know, two guys that are going to go late-ish at quarterback. That's the way I would approach it.
Starting point is 00:42:26 If you take a guy in the middle of the position, the middle of the rankings, it might be a little bit different. Tight ends the same way. I tend to, and then the other thing I would say is you have to know your league because we did a draft Tuesday night with and this is not knowing your league or reading the board so both ways we did a draft Tuesday night with the the St. Jude draft and i waited until of a 13 round draft round 11 to take drake may and adam's there you're going to take another quarterback and i said i'm going to see the way the next two rounds unfold and who could potentially be available on waivers and so if i know my league and i know everybody's going to take two quarterbacks i probably will make the investment in the second quarterback and see how drake may does the first couple weeks and obviously then i'll be a little bit you know, secure knowing that my quarterback situation is fine. But if I know that there's going to be a golf, a Herbert, a Tua, you know, guys that'll be in that 19, 20, 21 point range, but not a lot of upside, most likely.
Starting point is 00:43:23 C.J. Stroud, Jordan, I mean, there's so many guys at the position, like, why waste the pick the pick? And just maybe play it on our waivers. Now, again, the counter that would be when somebody else may pick them up. I get it. It's the risk you have to take. But I would rather take a chance on a Jacori-Krosky merit type player or a running back wide receiver that may pop
Starting point is 00:43:42 in the beginning part of the season and now I have that guy. Okay. Last one before a break before we get to our draft-a-thon questions. This is from Ruben. Rate my team. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:51 We don't rate a lot of teams. We'll rate yours, Rubin. 12-team PPR. I had the 11th pick. Devon A-chan, Josh Jacobs, Garrett Wilson, O'Mary and Hampton.
Starting point is 00:44:04 Rishi Rice, Travis Hunter, Evan Ingram, Romo Dunezay, Tank Bigsby, Justin Fields, Ray Davis, Jake Ferguson, Braylon Allen, two at Tung of I Loa. So the starting lineup would be Fields,
Starting point is 00:44:19 A Chan and Jacobs, Garrett Wilson and Rishie Rice, but for now, Travis Hunter, as we expect Rice to be suspended. Omari and Hampton at Flex, and it's full PPR, by the way, and Evan Ingram at tight end. With a good bench.
Starting point is 00:44:34 I mean, look, I'll rip the Band-Aid off. For me, this is not a good draft for my strategy. I'd probably give it a C-minus. My issue with it is I'm fine with A. Chan because he has so much upside in this PPR format. Josh Jacobs in this PPR format to just not come away with any of those receivers in those first two picks, Brian Thomas Jr., neighbors, those types of players, even Amon Raff falls at sometimes in a full PPR format. And then to get Garrett Wilson, who I think could have really low reception. possibility in that offense.
Starting point is 00:45:06 Like, I'm really low on Fields is passing upside this, this season. Then you come back and you have a Marion Hampton who I do like his upside, but in a full PPR league here, you're just pouring a lot of assets into players I'm worried about from reception standpoint. Rice and Hunter have upside for sure. It's just, even Ingram is a player. I'm not so as sold as others are on the role from a target and reception standpoint. Same thing, both Dunez.
Starting point is 00:45:30 So unfortunately for me in this PPR format, it's a C minus. I don't hate the roster as much, but I do agree with the Jacob's pick or the critique of the Jacobs pick, because if that's a top 10 wide receiver, which it should have been, and then you're talking about your starting A. Chan and Hampton, and instead of Hampton as your flex, it's Hunter as your flex, or, you know, I'm sorry, it's now Rice Hunter as your flex, you know, until Rice comes back. So let's say it's Thomas and Wilson and then Rice Hunter. Like, I love that much better. I like Jacobs a lot. I do think he's still very good in PPR, especially with Marshall and Lloyd once again banged up. And this Packers offense may be awesome based on all accounts. So I just think it's just too soon for Jacobs.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Yep. And somehow I'm drafting a 10-team league in a 10-team league with a bunch of strangers, and I kind of hate my team. And the reason is I don't have good enough wide receivers. So make sure you have good wide receivers. Okay. We're going to be right back after this on fantasy football today. that ad just got me so hyped up we're so close to real football yeah baby so excited by the way
Starting point is 00:46:38 i think um is it tofu tomo how do you pronounce that tofu tomo oh the is that the what in the chat how do you pronounce uh i don't see this i love how dan was acting like he knew that that was like some player or something like that tofu tomo it's our it's our late night uh johnny airport Futobo says, hurry, throw the roommate a frozen waffle. That's excellent. Yeah, so I'll just tell you what this team I'm working on from the number two picks. How many picks were auto selected by you?
Starting point is 00:47:14 None. So I went, Bejohn Robinson, second overall, A.J. Brown 19, third round. I was going to take Tyreek Hill, but I thought I was in a non-PPR league. I really don't see anything about format. So I thought, okay, I got to take some running backs. I took Bucky Irving. But if I know, I think, I now starting to think it's PPR. I would have taken Tyreek Hill. So I have Bijon, A.J. Brown, Bucky Irving's 10-team league.
Starting point is 00:47:39 Fourth round, I took Omari and Hampton. Okay. And then I took Marvin Harrison, Jr. as my wide receiver two. So it's, um, Bijon, Buckey, Hampton, A.J. Brown, Marvin Harrison, Jr., since I didn't love the Marvin Harrison Jr. pick, I mean, really, he was the best player available. I just, just, I didn't really like the book. Xavier worthy and Ted and McMillan are now on my bench. This is fine. Yeah, it's fine. I don't have a quarterback or a tight end
Starting point is 00:48:07 in a 10-team league, so I'm not going to be the lead at either of those onesie positions and I'd like to be. You might have the best running back group in the league, though. I should have the best running backs, yeah. All right, to the draft-a-thon questions. Thank you all so much for your generous donations.
Starting point is 00:48:21 This is from Riley. Who are some of your favorite values of players who play for a bad fantasy offense? Bad fantasy offense? Well, I think he means bad offense in general, but yeah, bad. Who are your favorite values in that regard? Any Browns player? Not me.
Starting point is 00:48:44 I think Shaheed comes to mind first for me. I really like Shaheed's value and he's in a terrible offense. Let's see, neighbors. I think he could be wide receiver one and despite it being projected to be a terrible offense. What other terrible, I'm trying to run. through my head of all the terrible offenses, the Saints, the Giants, the Browns. You got to think value. That's part of it.
Starting point is 00:49:08 Yeah. But those guys, I still think neighbors. Right. This is the thing about players on bad offenses. It's like you don't look for great values here because these are not the offenses that typically give you great values. You want to try to find great values on good offenses. Again, I would say like the, that's why I always defaults the Browns with something like
Starting point is 00:49:29 this. Like, Joe Flacko starts may be good for the players. Yeah. But not necessarily great for the team. Now, that could be wrong because he was great for the team in 2023. But you're looking at what Judy did last year, what Najoku was done with non-Watson quarterbacks, what Tillman might be. And then the running backs are so wide open right now. I'll say, like, Ford to me is an insane value.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Yeah, exactly. I don't know what's going on with the Brown situation. People are just thinking, oh, Dylan Samson, big sleeper. I don't know about that. Dylan Sam's a pretty raw prospect, and I'm not so sure they're turning over to him. Juggins doesn't look like he's even going to play this season. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:50:06 there was a legal thing that happened on Thursday where I think they deferred. He waived his right to a speedy trial. It's going to take a while. That's bad news, though, for his chances of playing. Yeah, yeah. I thought we were going to talk about that on the Friday show. We don't have to push through it.
Starting point is 00:50:24 No, it's fine. I'm just saying it's like wildly undervalue. My answer here is David Nijoku. I'll go Jerome Ford. And, you know, just your Malik neighbor, Tyrone Tracy, as long as scatterers, injured. And I kind of like Chris Olavé. Chris Ridley, I'm sorry, Calvin Ridley in there, too. Yep.
Starting point is 00:50:39 Oh, yeah, for sure. Okay, this is from Dumpville. Well, by the way, Ayomonor is apparently having a great camp. That would be. Eric. Ehrlich, Iommanner. Iomman. I definitely don't think that's how you pronounce his first.
Starting point is 00:50:55 It is 100, but, dude, you. I'm beyond the box score today. What was the name of your guest? Which one? We had multiple guests. Barfield. Graham Barfield. You go Graham Barfield.
Starting point is 00:51:07 I hope I'm pronouncing that right. I'm just happy to listen to the show. I'll be honest. That makes me feel good. What were you thinking? Graham Barfield? You thought you were pronouncing that wrong? What did you think it was Graham?
Starting point is 00:51:19 I just don't know. You know, like I don't want to get someone's name wrong. Like I grew up with the, I told you about this. I grew up with a friend who had a last name similar to yours. and I thought your last name was not, I mispronounced your last name is Graham Barfield. How do you get that wrong? Fairfield, it could have been Bearfield.
Starting point is 00:51:35 You don't want to. You just don't know. When somebody pointed out to me that you, you know, use some foul language, I just kept waiting for it. And so when you got to that part about, I thought you're going to be like, is it Graham bleeping Barfield or is it Graham Barfield?
Starting point is 00:51:49 That was part of what tripped me up. I just, I got tripped up. I had two espresso shots this morning. Now it's two? You went from two to one? I had two, one early. and then I stupidly had one just before the show. And then racked.
Starting point is 00:52:00 Your story's not checking it out here. All right, question here. The question here, or this actually might be from Sean. I'm sorry. I think this might be from Sean. I'm locked into keeping two wide receivers for my PPR league. Would you rather keep three consensus top 12 wide receivers for a salary cap draft or pivot your third keeper to a middle RB2?
Starting point is 00:52:24 So he's specifically looking at Chuba Hubbard and T. Higgins. when he's already keeping Brian Thomas Jr. and Tyreek Hill. Jamie. If the choice is Chubbard and T. Higgins, it's T. Higgins all day. Yes. Okay. Next question is from Dan Fox. We're going to let Dan answer this.
Starting point is 00:52:41 Dear Mani, Mike, David, and Steve. Mani, Mike, David, and Steve. Mani Ramirez is the first manny that comes to mind. And then... I do think you're on the right track. I ran out of Red Sox players. Mani, Mike, David, and Steve. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:52:56 It's like this is... Mani Ramirez, Mike. Florida Marlins. Oh, Mike Lowell. What? Big Poppy. Big Poppy. What was the last one?
Starting point is 00:53:07 David Ortiz. And Steve Pierce. What is the connection? I think this was one of their World Series teams. Oh, God. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:17 Yeah. 10 team PPR Keeper League. You keep two players at the round they're drafted with a cap in the eighth round for anyone drafted after the eighth or waiver wire. Can you name a few running backs and wide receivers going in the seventh round or later that while you agree with their ADP for this year, you feel the strongest that next year they'll be vaulted up to a top three round ADP. So in other words, going round seven or later, and he thinks they'll be, or you think they'll be round three or earlier next year. Just running backs, Adam? Or receivers. Is the idea here to pinpoint essentially just keepers?
Starting point is 00:53:55 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. So Rounds. Igbuka is a great call. Matthew Golden is somebody I'd really highlight. Really like what I've seen from. Luther Bird is going to have a big role in that offense, and Jamie's on something. They'll probably move on for more at that point next season.
Starting point is 00:54:11 I would throw Bachel Tootin in there from the Jaguars. Travis E.T.N.'s hitting free agency. Most likely not going to be back with the team. Bachel Tutin's a really good one to pinpoint. RJ Harvey's probably going too early to qualify for that. So I won't throw him in there. even non-rookies kion coleman is a good one i think for sure um trying to think who else non-rooky wise maybe a d mitchell if they move on from someone like pitman in the next season but they would need
Starting point is 00:54:38 to upgrade quarterback in a big way for me to feel confident there jaden blue potentially there those are probably the guys that come to mind first for me okay i just took david even tajey spiers let me throw tajie spears in there for next season i just took david a joker 90th overall by the way. Yeah, you like a joke. I don't like him at all. I like a 99th. I don't at all. And, you know. It's just like burning a draft pick, actually.
Starting point is 00:55:04 Yeah, I disagree with that. Unless Flacco plays. Well, he is going to play. Yeah, for a while, I'm saying. All right, now I'm going to take Kyler Murray 100 second overall, so I got my starting lineup. I took, I took Trayvian Henderson, I think 80, 81st or something like that. And then I took Travis Hunter. Just kidding. I like that one. They both went after pick 80.
Starting point is 00:55:25 All right. Next question is from, oh, Dan also says, P.S., the Yankees are hot garbage, and I love all that you do for St. Jude. I agree on both accounts. Yankees are hot garbage right now. They suck. I don't even understand them.
Starting point is 00:55:37 How could these guys be as bad as they are in the bullpen? It's like they get to New York, and they just, like, lose their mind. Yeah, it's ridiculous. All right, this is from... Chris of Mariano. Ken Goldstein, not Ken Gorillick, the saxophonist, affectionately known by friends as Kenny J.
Starting point is 00:55:54 He's the real Kenny G Okay This guy's the real Kenny Yeah Ken Goldstein Okay He was the grunge guy From last week's mailbag And he wants to know
Starting point is 00:56:06 Dan's take on Pearl Jam Because it sounded like He said What did he say I also got the sense That Dan had a terrible take About Pearl Jam He's right
Starting point is 00:56:18 I would like to hear his full opinion So I can disabuse him Of his likely awful take And perhaps provide him With a playlist to see if I can change his mind. Pearl Jam is arguably the best band of the last 35 years. If you have had or have the chance to see them live, you would most certainly agree.
Starting point is 00:56:33 My bet is Dan has only heard the mainstream radio songs, and I think he would actually love their deeper cuts. So this was really a great job by him to just dissect this situation, understand that I had a really awful and strong opinionated take on Pearl Jam. But it's not that they're a bad band. I actually really like listening to Pearl Jam. My take on Pearl Jam is, I think that Eddie Vedder's voice. is annoying, fake, and exaggerated.
Starting point is 00:56:56 And I wonder, I really do. I think it's annoying, fake, and exaggerated. And I wonder if I met him in person and be like, Hey, oh, Medi Veteran, here. Like, is that how he talks to people, or is that just what he throws in songs? Because, like, Jeremy's an amazing song. It's well-written.
Starting point is 00:57:12 It's got a great topic. And then in the middle, it just, like, at the end of the song, it's like, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. He just starts making noises. Yeah. It just starts making noise. It's like, what? I don't need those noises.
Starting point is 00:57:26 I just don't want the noise. I like it, dude. That's Grun-Rog, bro. I love the exaggerated voice. That's my biggest issue with Pearl Jam. So great music, great guitar, great writing. Everything's good. Just the exaggerated vetter voice I could do without.
Starting point is 00:57:37 All right, here's the rest of the question from Kenny G. Last year, I was in Adams' FFT Open League. I was proud of my team name, which was Azer Stats are my love language. This year, I'm in Dan's FFT Open League. Nice. Below are the names I've come up with and I'm considering. Please vote on it. Here are the four choices.
Starting point is 00:57:57 Dan and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad takes. The Schneier shoutouts. Dan and the, if I'm being honest, All-Stars. Yeah, yeah, I have a problem with that. And cold peanut butter and hot takes. Yeah, no, peanut butter is great in a fridge, and I want to make that clear. And other people follow up.
Starting point is 00:58:21 No, he has the evening hour. Other people have followed up, by the way, after that podcast and said, I do refrigerate my peanut butter, and it is a good decision. So I'm not alone in that. What's in the photo next to their fridge? We've got to know. The photo next to the fridge. Yeah, what's that photo? I'm not going to tell you every little detail of my personal life.
Starting point is 00:58:40 This photograph. You have to look, zoom in if you're after the show and see that. By the way, I have a quick piece of, if you guys are interested in it, there's never anything quick about what you're about to say. Speaking of Schneier's shoutouts, a friend of mine has delven like full face into fantasy football today. He's listened to every episode from you guys, basically, just like because he has a draft coming up. And one thing he said, which I kind of agree with him on, he loves the show. The only criticism he has is a lot of the times, and I have guilty of this as well, we talk about players like, I like him in round six, I like him in round seven, I like him around five, and he's an
Starting point is 00:59:15 exclusively auctioned drafter. So he thinks, and I think this is a good take, if we framed it as I as my wide receiver 18 or I like him as my RB13, it's a better way to kind of communicate it to people who are playing in all sorts of different leagues where even for people playing in 12 team or 10 team or 14 team leagues, like the round six doesn't add up as well. It's interesting. I don't know if we'll ever get to that because we're very ingrained in saying like he's my round five. I like him as a value in round five, but I thought it was a good take by him. Just going to throw it out there. I think it's fair. I would push back a little bit, and this is a credit to Adam, because he tries to frame it usually in a way of like comparing players to
Starting point is 00:59:51 players and also not just the same position but also like today we've spent time talking about wide receiver strategy and we're talking about a range of players at that position for example you know so like we talk about wide receivers 20 through 40 and i like him better than this guy like him in the range of this guy i think you know yeah we don't do it all the time clearly but you know i i do think that i wouldn't say it's a blind statement of we just say rounds for players i think we do do a good job and Adam does try to steer us in that direction more times and not yeah well there's always things we can get better on i'm actually going to have one of my friends start listening to your podcast and i'll let you know what he says in a few weeks oh i hope it's somebody over 18 did you not
Starting point is 01:00:33 hear when i said he loves a show he's delving full in he's listened to every episode and he had one little criticism it's a good criticism by the way my i think maybe to that audience we could probably say just as a tag to the player i would spend between this and this amount right You know, because that could help that. I think, no, I do think, like, I like him as my wide receiver, too. I'm comfortable with him as my wide receiver three. That could be very helpful, too. It helps.
Starting point is 01:00:58 Sure, but, I mean, it could also, you know, you asked us today, like, how much will we spend on certain players? So we did discuss a little bit. I think in the case of, yeah, I, the players that were looking for good values on, or good players on bad teams, I think a couple, I think a good dollar bid or $2 bid would be Cedrick Tillman or a good dollar to $3 bid on Jerome Ford, you know, which, would make sense. You know, we could say stuff like that.
Starting point is 01:01:21 Okay. With all that said, though, I did see Adam's recent poll on Twitter, and it was really disappointing and really appalling it a lot of ways. How many people preferred snake drafts to auction drafts? I was just, I hadn't discussed as I read that. But before you piss off our audience, I think you got to realize that a lot of people do this casually. Like, you know, our audience is dedicated.
Starting point is 01:01:41 We appreciate that. They're with us at 1138 Eastern on a Thursday night. So they would probably love to do a lot more auction drafts. Most casual people have, you know, an hour to make a draft to do a draft or, you know, two hours and they're taking time away from their kids or their job or whatever. They're enough. You know, so snake drafts are a lot easier. Okay. Can we move on, please, who the next squad?
Starting point is 01:02:02 I've been trying to read this for five minutes from Chris. I've got to go to bed. He's getting cranky. I have to edit this thing when we're done here. I have the 12th pick in a 12 team league. Can that be the dance punishment for his bad language? Yeah. I have Bucky Irving as a keeper in the ninth round and the 12th pick overall.
Starting point is 01:02:18 So he's got Bucky Irving and he's picking 12th. So is the move to hammer wide receiver at the one-two turn, take the best player regardless of position? Jamie, how does your strategy change there? Because usually I think we'd say maybe take a running back and a receiver at 12 and 13, but you've already keeping Bucky Irving. Does that change anything for you? I would still take the two best players.
Starting point is 01:02:38 You know, I mean, if you want to go receive a receiver, that's not a bad route to go. But again, we don't know the keepers that are off the board. So I would just take the two best available players. not quarterback for me. Okay. And let's go to our Apple podcast questions. This is from Chuck E buckle. He has two questions.
Starting point is 01:02:56 Number one, why doesn't Jamie compete in an event against either Dave or Heath in something like the tennis match? Ooh, I like that idea. Yeah, we can. More competitions. Kind of just been a natural rival. I don't know if there's anything that,
Starting point is 01:03:11 like, Heath would kill me in basketball because he's much taller than me and plays a lot more. You know what could be interesting? No, no. I was thinking... I've always suggested that we should do a decathlon, but like a weird stuff, like, you know, bowling and dart throwing.
Starting point is 01:03:27 Yeah, yeah, we can't do too much for decathlon. We don't want to kill ourselves out there. I think maybe next year we can organize me versus Heath in golf. Heath hasn't golfed in like 10 years, but used to be good. And I golf all the time, and I think... No, it would be U versus Thomas in golf. No, I would never even come close to competing with Thomas. Well, I mean, that's the same thing as U versus Adam and tennis.
Starting point is 01:03:45 I guess that's true and we could play with the handicapped system all right that's the second part of this you you would smoke me with the handicapped regardless of the handicap system I mean do you keep an honest cap Thomas
Starting point is 01:03:59 do you keep an honest cap? Yeah I'm 11.5 11. Unreal I would get like eight strokes I could do it when you do best ball golf like the best you play the ball we can do scramble we can have all of us out there and play scramble
Starting point is 01:04:14 yeah I would be I could single-handily beat all you guys if you guys played best shot and I played my own ball. Are you kidding me? No, I'm not. I, I, I, I, I, I, I would, I would probably, I would include Heath. That includes Heath. So we get me, Jamie Heath, Heath, Heath used to play golf and he was actually good. No, Tom is not, but I think that's the, I think that's the fun of a though.
Starting point is 01:04:38 Have you ever stopped playing golf for like three months in? Oh no, you're horrible when you come back. But we would have five different puts. Every time we got on the greed, Thomas, we'd have five chances to butt. So you're putting for a double bogey on putting for four? Thomas would kill us. All right. And the next question is, in a three-player PPR Keeper League,
Starting point is 01:04:58 would I be crazy to keep Chiggo Conquo over George Pickens in the third round? So I think it's Chiggo Concoe like in the last round over George Pickens in the third round. It's a league that they have to keep someone? Yeah, it looks like they have to keep three. I would keep Okonko then I would not want to throw away my third round pick on pick Well I guess it depends If there's you know
Starting point is 01:05:20 Everybody if there's 36 players off the board Then I might want to keep picking The comments are so good tonight Got to keep This is from Raul If Dan just lifted his camera up a bit His roommate could crawl into the kitchen quick Selfish
Starting point is 01:05:33 All right All right I've lost complete control tonight From Raul I got to keep two in this league Nico in the 14th Brian Thomas Jr. in the 15th Yes, I'm going to read the rest.
Starting point is 01:05:46 Go with those two. And P.S., I'm rooting for Adam in the tennis match. Thank you, Raoul. This is from the Real Big Blue 26. Bring back the alternative intro. Yes, I will start getting that one the intro back in the mix. And this is from Jabruni for Fantasy. Jamie, how is your strategy different in a three-wide receiver league with one flex
Starting point is 01:06:08 compared to a two-wide receiver league with two flexes? Three-wide receiver league. with one flex, two out receiver lead with two flexes. I'm still trying to get receivers if it's PPR. Okay. Receivers in those spots. I am on the clock with my last pick, which I think is going to be Taije Spears.
Starting point is 01:06:29 Kyler Murray, Bejohn Robinson, Bucky Irving, A.J. Brown, Marvin Harrison, Splex, Ontario Hampton, or Marion Hampton, also. And David Nujoku at tight end. at receiver on the bench I have Worthy and McMillan and Hunter I have Trayvion Henderson
Starting point is 01:06:48 on the bench I have Tyler Warren and Tajay Spears good team you're not you're not great for a 10 team league I'm good
Starting point is 01:06:58 I mean look I got Travis Hunter Tederoa McMillan Mcmillan Zavier Worthy Trayvion Henderson Tyler Warren on my bench Everybody has a great bench
Starting point is 01:07:08 Not really like I'm getting these guys in the 80s some of them you know You might have the best bench But I would venture to guess Everybody's got a good bench I would have liked to have at least one stud at
Starting point is 01:07:18 Quarterback or tight end Yeah, that's the problem Yeah, it didn't work out that way Like when I took Marvin Harrison Jr. at 42nd overall All five quarterbacks And all three tight ends were gone So did you have the opportunity
Starting point is 01:07:31 When you took AJ Brown Because you were questioning it To get Bowers or McBride Yeah, Bauer, yes, I did But I still would go AJ Brown there Huh? I'd still go AJ Brown there Um, in a 10 team league with two receivers, two flex, two receivers, one flex?
Starting point is 01:07:45 Yeah. I would have gone in tighten. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, Brown is so good. I get where you're coming from. All right, YouTube. Let's go. What do you got for us?
Starting point is 01:07:58 Um, questions from YouTube. The comments are better than the questions. Yeah. Dan could get a standing desk to give the roommate that lower shelf access. Dan on the stand. It's unbelievable that I might have to relocate in, I'll be recording from the basement before we're all done here. I would just love to see all of a sudden like the refrigerator just opening. Like it's going underneath on the floor.
Starting point is 01:08:24 All right. What do we got here? Ten team keeper league. Ten keepers. Ten keepers in a 12 team Superflex league. I got offered Justin Fields and Isaiah Pacheco for 108. My other quarterbacks are Hertz and May. Superfleck.
Starting point is 01:08:45 It's super flex. It's just so hard to understand if we don't know the context of where the, but he has Hertz and May already. Yeah. Yes. Who's 108 going to be? There got to be so many. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:08:58 108 right now with Juddkins out of the first round. Right. Maybe Matthew Golden. No, no, no. This is not a rookie draft. Oh, no. No, no, 108 overall. Well, you're basically a rookie draft because everybody's keeping 10 players.
Starting point is 01:09:12 10? Yeah, 10. I would make this trade. God, make the trade. No, no, you have to make this 10 team keeper league. That's what I'm saying. Like, you're getting those two guys for what's offer. This makes no sense.
Starting point is 01:09:23 For what could be Jackson Dart. Yeah, yeah, this is a weird offer. I don't even understand that. There's probably a secret brick on Dan's wall that if you pull it, you get a deli sandwich. If you did, it would be a chicken cutlet with prosciutto, arugula, sharp provolone. Al samiglays. Jason says, what's Adams take on
Starting point is 01:09:41 one-off positions in larger leagues? Let's get everybody's take here. That's, I don't know. I don't really have a set position on that. My take in deeper leagues, I fear having bad running backs
Starting point is 01:09:54 because I know in deeper leagues. I don't play in anything deeper than a 14-team league, but I know in deeper leagues the running backs are garbage unless there is on the waiver wire, unless there's an injury, and then everyone in the league wants the guy, who's stepping up, you are not getting running backs on waivers that you can plug into your
Starting point is 01:10:13 lineup and feel confident about. So I like to come out of a deeper league with running back depth to get me through this season. Take advantage of the depth at the quarterback position, but I'm certainly not opposed to taking Josh Allen or whatever, but I don't set out to do it. Tight end's a little bit different. I do think there's a little bit of more, there's more value at tight end, I think, in deeper leagues to grab an elite one, because now you have an advantage over even more teams in your leagues. There's not depth at that position. But yeah, my take, and I don't hear a lot of people say this, is I very much fear having bad running backs in a deep league
Starting point is 01:10:45 because you cannot rely on the waiver wire to get you through the weeks. These days you can't really rely on the wave wire for receivers, though, either. I think you can. I think you want to get somebody who can score you 10, 12 ppr fantasy points and just be a wide receiver 3 or a flex. I think they're out there usually, more so than running back.
Starting point is 01:11:05 Running back is a barren waistland. It also depends on how deep your benches are, to, you know, so if you're, if you're limiting the amount of players that can be available on waivers, you know, because people are hoarding them, you know, so that factors into it also. But I think you're on the right path there, Adam, certainly the one-off positions you want to prioritize less. I think you want to get a little bit more depth at both positions running back a wide receiver, but yes, running back a little bit more. All right. Dan's roommate has an electric fence. 14 team PPR, keep one.
Starting point is 01:11:38 Jaden Daniels Still the best avatar Jaden Daniels are the fifth or Brian Thomas Jr. in the sixth they're Bucky Irving in the eighth
Starting point is 01:11:47 Is that you in that avatar? Yeah that's Jamie scaring the crap out of me That's awesome I'm keeping Bucky
Starting point is 01:11:55 I'll go BTJ in the sixth Yeah BTJ in the sixth for me I've never seen anyone podcast in front of the refrigerator
Starting point is 01:12:06 There's no other listen Rickalus Cage You've been on my case all night. No, I actually love the comments. You've made me laughing a bunch of them. But as far as this goes, like, listen, I don't have options here. My house is under construction.
Starting point is 01:12:16 I used to record out of my room, but my room is shaped weirdly, and it looked like I was recording out of bathroom. I couldn't take the heat anymore. So I moved it out in here. Then for a while, I was doing the green screen. But, you know, the people don't like the green screen. It doesn't work well. It doesn't look good.
Starting point is 01:12:29 So it's a real screen now, but what are my options? We're going to move it tomorrow. We're going to find something new. But everywhere else in this room is under construction. So I just don't know what to do at this point, okay? I think you just lean into it, buddy. It's good. I don't think it looks that bad.
Starting point is 01:12:42 I'm fine with it. I just want to know what that picture is, that's all. I'm going to throw up a bunch of magnets on that refrigerator, and then it'll look cool, things I like. Turtle Smurf says in a 10-team or 12-team league. It'll look cool. It'll look cool. Oh, dude, did you guys see FFT today? Dan has refrigerator magnets.
Starting point is 01:13:06 Yeah. No way, man. Yeah, how cool is that? The tennis racket on the refrigerator as a magnet. I don't know. You like Channers. What does this mean? Is that supposed to say Primo in the first three rounds?
Starting point is 01:13:22 The 10 team or 12 team league, what positions are primo or priority in the first team rounds? No priority. I mean, look, you get at least one wide receiver in the first two rounds. Try, try. Go ahead, Tom. In a 10 team league, though, again, Quarterback and tight end. If you can get an elite one, do it.
Starting point is 01:13:39 All right. Thomas, what do we got for the people today? He's got some thing to troll me with. But I feel so disturbed by him thinking that he would beat us in a scramble. It's crazy. Of course he would beat us. No, he wouldn't. How did AI do this?
Starting point is 01:13:56 What the heck? This is real. How does AI come up with this stuff? That looks so legitimate. I know. It's really scary. I hate that. That is really bad.
Starting point is 01:14:10 This is so crazy. Dude, that is amazing. That is wild. AI is going to, wow. I know. I can't tell what's real. Like I said the other day, I was watching a clip on YouTube of
Starting point is 01:14:23 Mike McDaniel talking about Tyreek Hill. And I honestly, because my McDaniel is like a little weird in his press conferences, I couldn't tell if it was real or not, or if it was an AI fake. I still don't know. I think it was. But I have no idea.
Starting point is 01:14:39 All right. Thank you, everybody. We're waking the neighbors. We got us to go. We'll talk to you in 10 hours on festival today with wide receiver preview part two. I'd like to stay awake. All right. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 01:14:55 Thanks for your donations. And if you're listening, have a wonderful weekend. See you Monday. Paramount Podcasts.
