Starting point is 00:00:01 Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You. This year, it's more you on Bumble. More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes. More of you finding Gemini's because you know you always like them. More of you dating with intention because you know what you want. And you know what? We love that for you. Someone else will too. Be more you this year and find them on Bumble.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Consider this is a daily news podcast, and lately, the news is about a big question. How much can one guy change? They want change. What will change look like for energy? Drill, baby, drill. Schools? Take the Department of Education, close it. Health care?
Starting point is 00:00:44 Better and less expensive. Follow coverage of a changing country. Promises made, promises kept. We're going to keep our promises. On Consider This from NPR. Listen on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Well, the election is in the homestretch, right in time for a new season of my podcast, Next Question. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like Ezra Klein, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also going to have some fun, thanks to some of my friends like Samantha Bee and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well. I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about? Check out our new season of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First Date Follow-Up.
Starting point is 00:01:39 It's time for your First Date Follow-Up, and on the phone right now is Kelsey. And Kelsey didn't even go out on a first date with the guy she wants to call today. Then how is she going to do this? I don't know. She got ghosted before she even met him? I don't know. She said that she hasn't even gone out on a date with the guy she wants to call. Kelsey, what's up? How are you?
Starting point is 00:01:58 Hey guys, I'm okay. How are you? Not too bad. So your email says that you want to call a dude named Akeem? Yes. All right. And tell us a little bit about what happened. Your email said you didn't even go out on a date, but you want to call him for a first day follow-up. You're getting ghosted, but you didn't go out.
Starting point is 00:02:16 So how do you know him? Well, we met online. We were taking an online cooking class because pandemic boredom is real. But yeah, like we just started talking and, you know, like we exchanged numbers. We started texting and we had planned to go out. And, you know, this was like a couple of weeks. And then I just didn't hear from him again. So you made a bunch of plans. And then did he stop talking to you before you guys were supposed to go out? Or had you made plans and then it was like the night of? Yeah, so we were texting a lot.
Starting point is 00:02:56 And, you know, we were making plans for our date. And everything seemed good. And then, like like the day of, I was trying to confirm and I just didn't hear from him. Like he wouldn't text me back. That sucks. Nothing at all? Nothing.
Starting point is 00:03:14 And leading up to that, everything was good? Yeah. I mean, we were really getting along. Like he's fun and witty and you know, we have that witty banter, which I love. Okay. Did you guys ever talk on the phone or was it just text no we did we talked on the phone a few times
Starting point is 00:03:33 um but mostly like I'm busy with my work and he's busy with his work so it was mostly texting but that's pretty normal okay and there's nothing that you can think of no reason at all why he would just stop talking to you I have thought and thought and thought like that you can think of, no reason at all, why he would just stop talking to you? I have thought and thought and thought. Like, I can't think of anything. Okay. Did he send you any dirty pictures at all? No, no, we didn't do that.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Okay, you should have got those early because you could use them for blackmail. You know, you could be like, hey, I'll post these on the internet if you don't text me back and tell me why you ghosted me. But unfortunately, you didn't do that. So you don't have any explanation. I don't. I know, I don't text me back and tell me why you ghosted me. But unfortunately, you didn't do that. So you don't have any explanation. I don't. I know. I don't. How long has it been since you guys were supposed to go on the date?
Starting point is 00:04:18 Yeah, it's been about a week since I heard from him. And, you know, I tried to text him a few times. I didn't want to go overboard. Like, if I had done something, I didn't want to seem like I was, you know, going crazy with the text, but I just was trying to like reach out and I just haven't heard anything back from him yet. Did you guys have something organized for the date? Like, were you going to go out to dinner or something or? Yeah, we were going to go to a restaurant and, uh, you know, we'll, we had talked about like maybe having a drink before and then you know going out and having dinner did he wait did he seem like he wanted to drink or not because maybe he's a recovering alcoholic and that's why no no i don't think so um you know it wasn't like
Starting point is 00:04:58 yeah i can't wait to get that drink and you guys actually saw each other because you met on a cooking class online, right? Right. And so it's not one of those situations where he was catfishing you. You actually saw him? No, yeah, we saw each other. Okay. I could see how someone would definitely
Starting point is 00:05:20 do that. You're catfishing and then you get to the point where you actually have to meet up and you're like, man, I'm going to show up and you're like, man, I'm going to show up and she's going to realize I'm a talking elephant. I haven't even been out in public yet and I can't do that because talking elephants got to stay inside because they're not accepted in today's society, unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Anyway, enough about the plight of talking elephants. Right in the middle of your first day of follow-up and if you're just joining us, Kelsey is on the phone and she wants us to call a guy named Akeem. They met in an online cooking class and then texted a bunch for a while, very flirtatiously and talked on the phone a couple of times. And then all of a sudden before their first date, he just stopped texting her and hasn't talked to her since. And she has no idea why. Yeah, that sucks, too, because you're probably excited to go out, right?
Starting point is 00:06:05 Yeah, I think we were both excited. Well. I thought we were. You were definitely excited. Something happened, but we can't figure out why. So we're going to call him right now and see if we can figure it out for you. Okay, you ready? Okay, I'm ready.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Here we go. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Akeem? Give me one second, please. Sorry, my wife is on the phone. I had to leave the room. But this is Akeem. What's going on?
Starting point is 00:07:04 Not much. This is Jubal from The Jubal Show. This is Alex. This is Evan. Did I win something? What's going on? So you've heard of us? Yeah, I mean, I've heard you guys on and off.
Starting point is 00:07:18 I don't listen to you guys regularly, but I've heard of you guys. Okay, cool. Well, nice to meet you, man. Yeah, that's dope. Same. I hope. What's going on? Well, well i mean i don't know um do you have like a couple minutes to talk about something real quick yeah sounded like you were gonna say our lord and
Starting point is 00:07:34 savior jesus christ yeah i'm not trying to sell you anything but um so you don't know why we'd be calling you today? I mean, I have some ideas, but not really. Okay. Well, I'm calling you today because we do a segment on the show called the First Date Follow-Up. You know what that is? Yeah, I think I do. Yeah. So we do that segment, and that's where if you go out on a date with someone And then end up not calling them back
Starting point is 00:08:06 They can email us to get you on the phone And figure out what happened I know you didn't actually go out on a date Well, he could have Yeah, but you had one scheduled With a woman named Kelsey Yeah So you're married, huh?
Starting point is 00:08:22 Exactly Wow Yeah married huh exactly wow yeah um hello yeah this is no no i'm outside this is just yeah kelsey emailed us and we talked to her she said that you guys met in a cooking class and you scheduled a date to go out, but you stopped talking to her on the day you were supposed to meet up, and I guess we know why. Oh, s***. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:08:54 She's on the phone, isn't she? Yes, she is. Kelsey? Hi. I'm assuming you would like some answers? Yeah, I think that would be fair Yeah I don't know I don't know if I can do this right now Do you need to wait for your wife to leave
Starting point is 00:09:17 Before you talk to the girl you scheduled a date with I mean Listen I stopped messaging her I ceased contact. I thought that was a clear indicator. No, it wasn't clear because you didn't tell her that you married. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Also, you have a wife probably shouldn't be scheduling dates with other women. But we didn't meet. But you got her number. That's the first step. I don't think I have the time to be out with you right now. So, I'm sorry. I mean, you know, if your wife comes out just like, Honey, I'll just be in a second, just on the phone.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Just taking a quick call. Yeah. She's on a call anyway, right? You said she was on the phone, your wife? Yeah, but I don't know when she's going to be off the phone. Maybe you should have thought about that before you scheduled a date with another woman um listen i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm gonna ask i shouldn't schedule a date with you like the reason why i stopped messaging you is
Starting point is 00:10:16 because i just felt like really really guilty about it all i'm so sorry but i didn't mean anything about it i'm sorry i don't know what i don't know what to say i mean yeah you're a liar i'm sorry am i sure i i didn't mean to no no it's fine i deserve that i get it wow i feel bad well i mean listen listen like if things don't work out with me and my wife maybe i can like give you call. On the back burner. You want to sit on the bench for a little while until Akeem's ready? By the way, I think I know the answer to this, but I'm just going to ask it anyway.
Starting point is 00:10:54 Akeem, would you like to go out officially on a date with Kelsey? We'll pay for it. No. I mean, of course. No, I can't do that. Okay. Would you like us to pay for a date night with your wife? Sounds like you guys would need it. No, I mean, of course, no, I can't do that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Would you like us to pay for a date night with your wife? No. Sounds like you guys would need it. What? If anything, you should be paying for a date for me. For sure. Hello, he's a cheater. Kelsey, okay, would you like us to find you another date and then pay for it? Yes, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:11:21 All right, great. We'll find someone. We won't find someone. You find someone, then hit us up, and we'll pay for it. And we'll pay for it. Yeah, we don't want to do all that work. All right, great. We'll find someone. We won't find someone. You find someone and then hit us up and we'll pay for it. And we'll pay for it. Yeah, we don't want to do all that work. Bless you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:29 Kim, don't hold your breath because I'm not going to hold mine. Okay? Like, don't even bother. You need to get your s**t together because I feel really bad for your wife. Like, even if you were single, no. I don't. for your wife. Like, even if you were single, no. I don't. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Yeah, you're right. I deserve that. I'm sorry. Listen, I can't talk that much. I got to get back in. My wife's going to be off the phone. I got to get back in. All right, well, go handle your business.
Starting point is 00:12:01 It's amazing to me how people do this sort of thing to their significant others. What do you mean? Take a cooking class? No. That's totally fine. Or are you talking about the fact that he scheduled a date with another woman, even though he had a wife? Yeah, those two things are very different. Yeah, if you're giving out your digits that easily,
Starting point is 00:12:14 you're really not in a happy relationship. Shouldn't be married. Definitely not committed. Yeah. I wonder what the percentage of people would if they had the opportunity. Oh, right. Yeah. I'm interested to know.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Do you guys have like a famous thing where if there's someone famous that comes around and happens to want to sleep with one of you oh no i've always thought that was stupid like a free pass i mean if you know anything about alex and my relationship it's a little different than some like i've never uh put together a list of like oh if um zach efron were to come in studio right now babe i'd be able to sleep with him. I've never thought, I've never, I don't know why. This has never been a thing for me. Who's sleeping with celebrities and how are they saying yes?
Starting point is 00:12:51 Yeah. I'm confused. Exactly. Oh, because you're going to be around The Rock, he's going to want to sleep with you? Yeah. Probably not. Well, probably. We're so done with New Year, New You.
Starting point is 00:13:03 This year, it's more you on Bumble. More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes. More of you finding Gemini's because you know you always like them. More of you dating with intention because you know what you want. And you know what? We love that for you. Someone else will too.
