First date follow-up.
Max is on the phone today for a first date follow-up,
and apparently he's not getting a call back from a woman named Amber.
And let's see if we can help him out.
Max, how are you?
Hey, not too bad.
Not too bad.
What's going on?
Not much.
Just doing a first date follow up.
So that's about it.
All right.
Good job.
Yeah.
So you're not getting a call back from somebody named Amber.
Tell us a little bit about her.
I'm waiting to hear, but I guess I'm not going to be hearing.
I don't know what the reason is.
I thought things were successful, but maybe I'm mistaken.
Okay.
Where did you meet Amber?
I actually met her.
I was shopping for a birthday present for my mother, and I decided to go to, I was wandering around the mall, and I said, oh, Bed Bath & Beyond.
I'm sure I'm going to find something there.
So, you know, once you get in one of the stores, you can quickly get lost. And the sales girl
happened to be Amber. She said, can I help you, sir? And I said, actually, yeah, I'm trying to get, you know,
and I went through the whole story. And she said, well, I have some ideas. And she picked out these
things, I guess that they're like bath soaps or something like that. And
we just kind of hit it off. And I said, you wouldn't mind giving me
your contact information, like a phone number or something?
And she said, all right, all right.
So she gave me the number.
Okay.
Wow.
So you basically were shopping for a gift for your mom.
You went into Bed Bath & Beyond.
You flirted with Amber, who was helping you out.
Okay, yeah.
That's accurate.
Congrats on getting her number.
Yeah, I mean, that's good for you.
Yeah, good job, man.
So how long until you hit her up?
I waited a couple of days and rang her up and said, do you remember me?
I was like, you waited a couple of days and gave her a ring.
I was like, whoa, dude.
That's fast.
Wait a few months in for that.
No wonder she's not calling you back.
Yeah.
All right, so you called her.
I gave her five rings.
I figured if she didn't, I'll pick up by then.
She had no rings anymore.
But she did finally answer, and she did remember me.
And I said, would you be interested in, you know,
going out to get a drink or something?
And so we made a date, and we met at this restaurant.
And I thought things went really well that first date.
You know, we seemed to connect, and chatting away, both of us. She seemed to be happy to be there. I was very happy really well the first day. You know, we seemed to connect and chatting away, both of us.
She seemed to be happy to be there.
I was very happy to be there with her.
You know, everything seemed perfect.
And we left on a nice, you know.
Let me ask you a question.
Do you think that, so you're a talker, I can tell.
You know, I don't know you personally, but I can tell that you are one of those people that you talk, you like, you talk fast. That's what you do. And you talk a lot. Do you think that she's
not calling you back because you talked a lot and didn't really have her talk and listen to her
on the date? Well, you know, it's like you talk, have a conversation with somebody and you sort of
said, you know what I mean? And she says, yeah. And so I keep going and I said, how, you know,
right. And you go, right. Oh yeah. Okay. Okay. You know, it was a flow to know what I mean? And she says, yeah. And so I keep going and I said, how are you? Right. Right. Oh yeah. Okay.
Okay. You know, it was a flow to it. I mean,
it wasn't like she was looking at her watch or maybe a couple of times,
uh, you know, we're opening up her Kindle to start reading while I'm there.
Um, yeah, I was looking at the menu, the things you do in a restaurant.
So like, you know, I'm, uh, I'm, I'm confounded by all this, my friends.
How did everything end with her?
Did you get a kiss or anything at the end of the night?
Yeah. A little, you know,
kind of a little kiss,
innocuous sort of thing.
I mean, now that we all have our masks off,
we all forgot how to do that,
but pretty calm, pretty tame, I'd say.
So a little bit of a kiss,
and how long has it been since you talked to her?
I think the last words I said to her were,
I'll see you again, okay?
And she smiled and went inside.
Oh, so since the date,
was the last time you heard from her?
Yes.
And how many times did you try and hit her up?
Did you text her?
I texted her, I emailed her.
You emailed her.
You sent her an email too.
I used her phone,
I was able to get her email through I had this way
of doing that
and then
and I phoned her
you know
and I don't want
I don't want to be
obsessive about it
but you know
at least she could have done
answered and said
oh sorry
sorry Max
but I'm going to go
in another direction
yeah
you know
alright
great
so help
what can I do
yeah
maybe you should have sent the email.
High importance.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Could have gone to the spam folder.
Spam folder.
Yeah.
You could have been spam folded, but we'll figure it out for you.
All right.
So we'll play a song, come back, and then we'll call her and try to find out the reason
that she's not answering you.
Okay?
Sure.
All right.
Hang on one sec.
It's the Jubal Show.
Right in the middle of today's first date follow up
and if you're just joining us
Max is on the phone
and Max
met a girl named Amber
sounds like a bad
80's romantic comedy
Max met a girl named Amber
but Max
met a girl named Amber
at the mall
he was shopping for a gift
for his mom
and apparently
she was helping him
he flirted with her
got her number
and they went out to dinner
and he cannot figure out why
she isn't calling back
he said everything went great.
He even had a kiss at the end of the night, but he hasn't heard anything from her.
He even sent her an email.
That's how bad he's been trying to get a hold of her, and no response.
So we're about to call her right now and see if we can figure it out.
All right, Max, before we call her, do you have anything else you want to add?
No, I think you got the story right, so I'm ready to go.
All right, here we go.
I'm going to dial her phone number right now.
Hello?
Hi, is this Amber?
This is.
Hey, Amber, how are you?
This is The Jubal Show.
My name's Jubal.
Mine's Alex Fresh.
Mine's English Evan.
And it's a radio show.
I don't know if you've heard of it or not.
Yeah, I have.
What's making me nervous?
What's going on?
Probably should be a bit nervous. Yeah, we do a segment on the show that you might've heard if you've heard of the
show or listened to it called the first date followup.
Okay.
Yep.
Yep.
I know I'm familiar.
Okay.
So then you know that somebody has emailed us about you because you went on
a date with them and now you're blowing them off.
Max.
I'm assuming.
Wow. All right. You know all the details. Max, I'm assuming. Wow.
All right, you know all the details.
That was quick.
Yeah, yeah.
Max emailed us because he told us that he really liked you
and thought you guys had a great dinner
and wanted to see you again,
but you haven't answered any of his phone calls
or his email even.
And we have a slight idea
because he seems like a bit of a talker,
so it could be that, the reason you're ghosting him.
Yeah, I mean, that's part of it.
I mean, he was a nice guy.
Don't get me wrong.
I'm not trying to, like, say he was horrible.
But he was a great talker to his friend who owned the restaurant.
Like, I'm sure he told you that.
Like, his friend owns the restaurant. He just name
dropped him and said that about 25
times during dinner.
His friend came over
and it was like a bromance
reunion. Literally, he sat
down and they were swapping stories.
He was on a date with this guy,
not me.
Did he even talk to you?
No, barely.
He barely asked me anything like
and i would maybe i would kind of laugh and like try to like interject into the conversation and
then he'd be like turn right back to his friend and keep chatting with him like i know so much
about these two guys and all their college days and everything and he probably knows nothing about
me oh wow so basically you don't want to go out with him again because he wasn't paying attention
to you. Yeah, I mean,
well, I mean, I can tell it's super needy, but it's
not even like that. Like, I'm all about, like, group
dates and, you know, doing stuff, but I mean, on a first
date, I would like to, like, get
to know somebody. You know, I would hope that he
would like to get to know me, too. Yeah.
And I didn't really appreciate
how much he was, like, bragging. Like,
I understand your friend owns a restaurant.
Cool.
That's really nice that he let you have a date there.
But he literally kept saying it over and over and over.
And I was like, oh my gosh.
There is nothing worse than a name dropper.
Right.
He mentioned to us that his friend owned the restaurant.
He didn't say anything about his friend sitting down and them talking for hours while you're trying to have a date with them.
He didn't really go into much detail on that. He said that you guys kissed at the end of the night. Um, it was like a pack. Like he walked me to my door, which was
very sweet. And he like leaned in, like you could tell, like I knew he wanted to like go for it.
And so I kind of just quickly did like a quick peck and then I was like, all right. So he was
just, he was trying to impress you because it's his friend restaurant.
And then his friend sat down and now he was on a date with his friend.
And that's the reason that you don't want to talk to him.
He's on the phone, huh?
Oh, you remembered.
Well, now I feel bad.
Yeah, I'm here, Amber.
Hi, Max.
It's good to finally hear your voice, I should say.
Max, I just, okay, I mean, come on.
You've got to admit that you barely spoke to me the whole night.
You were talking to your friend the entire date.
We were talking about you.
We were including you, and we kept looking at you, and you were smiling,
and it was like a real connection of people, I thought.
Well, what else was I going to do?
I was the third wheel in your bromance date.
Of course, it was so awkward that I had to just nod and smile until I could get out of there.
Look, he was hosting us at the restaurant.
He was trying to make sure we were having a good time.
He wasn't only my friend.
He's also the proprietor, you know?
I don't see what's so bad about that.
I mean, you know, I mean, you should have given me a signal or something to be quieter.
Maybe he said, you know, like, say, shh.
Can I just say something, Max?
You want to be shushed by your date?
Well, in the right way.
I mean, you know, I would have taken a shush if I could have gotten a second date.
That's just not me.
I'm not like,
I'm not going to mom shush you
in the middle of our first date.
Like,
I guess I just expect,
you know,
you asked me out.
I figured you wanted
to get to know me
and that's just not
what happened.
But I did get to know you.
I got to know you a lot.
I know a lot about you.
And listen,
my friend owns the restaurant and it's just good. Yes, I know. I know your friend owns the restaurant, Max. You told me
about 20 times on the date. Okay. So you say you know so much about me, Max. Tell me something.
Tell me just anything. Like, where did I grow up? Tell me one detail about me that you learned that
night. You were very good at choosing presents presence for people's relatives. That's not
easy to do. That's about you. Max, are you talking about when she helped you out when you were
looking for a gift for your mom? That's not necessarily something about her that she would
share with you on the date. Yeah. Me helping you pick out your mom's gift is not a personal detail
about me.
That's my job.
Like, tell me,
you said you know me so well
and you know,
what do you know?
Tell me something
you learned about me
personally on our date.
Um,
you, uh,
you like to travel,
right?
Okay.
I mean, everybody does.
Yeah, everyone likes to hike.
To hike, maybe.
Hey, I think I know where this is going, but Max
or Amber, I'm sorry, would you like to go on
another date with Max? We'll pay for it.
No, I'm good.
I really don't think so.
Sorry, Max.
Okay.
Well, it'd be a long time before I'm going
to Bed Bath & Beyond, so I'm going to bed Bath and be on That's all I'm gonna say
I mean if you
If you need anybody to talk to
You can go back to your buddy's restaurant
And hang out there
And tell them all about it
Hey
Hey listen
Is it alright if I give a shout out
To my friend's restaurant
Give him a little
A little plug here
Wow
Sure go for it
Well listen
If you're ever hungry
And you want a good
Oops
I hung up
