First date follow-up.
You know what's gotten a lot of action
in the dating world since COVID
started? What? Parks.
Parks have gotten
a lot of action. Like, you mean a park
with grass and stuff? Yeah, because people weren't able to
really go anywhere and do anything.
Just parks in general, going on picnics, going on walks in the park, meeting at the park.
Who knows what you're doing in the park after dark?
That was a rhyme, and I did that on purpose just so I could rhyme.
But Aiden is on the phone for a first date follow-up today, and he wants to call a woman named Lila.
And apparently they went to dinner, and then guess where after that?
Where?
The park.
Anyway, they went to the park.
Aiden, before we get into how you met her and all that other stuff,
how long has it been since you talked to Lila?
It's been two weeks.
Two weeks.
Okay.
That's a long time.
And in that two weeks time, how many times have you tried to reach out to her?
I played it real cool.
So two, maybe three.
Okay. Okay.
Yeah, it wasn't a lot because I know that can get real creepy real fast.
Yeah, for sure.
You don't want to be pushy.
And she didn't respond at all?
Not at all.
Okay, so she obviously doesn't want to talk to you.
First, before we ask you why, how was the date with Lila?
Obviously, you liked her a lot, but tell us about it.
Yeah, man, the date was actually really cool.
We went to go get dinner at this real nice spot,
and then we walked through the park, which is really cool,
because it was like the evening.
The sky was real pretty.
So it was a really nice night.
We had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. It really seemed like she was real pretty. So it was a really nice night. I mean, we had a lot of fun.
I really enjoyed it.
It really seemed like she was, too.
That sounds like a very romantic date.
What did you guys do while you were there?
Oh, all we did, we just talked.
We got to know each other.
You know, we talked a little bit about, like, our families,
you know, like, our relationship with our parents,
stuff like that, a little basic stuff.
I mean, I can see how going on a walk in a park would be really enjoyable
if you liked the person that you were with, you know?
Although, okay, so she's not getting back to you,
and you spoke about family.
Is your family normal, or are they in jail or something?
No, no, my family's actually really normal.
I got a couple of brothers.
On the family thing, though,
did you maybe overshare too much about your family?
Did you maybe be like,
hey, do you want to come meet my family this afternoon
or this evening or tomorrow or the day after tomorrow?
Or you want to meet my mom?
Or I've already planned the wedding.
Things like that.
Did you get a little too intense about stuff, maybe?
No, no, I didn't.
Especially because I'd be more worried about my family
meeting any girl I brought.
So I wait and wait before I push it to that point.
Okay.
Did she seem like she was into you?
She did.
So I'm a little, like I said, I'm a little confused.
I don't want to say I'm hurt,
but I'm just a little confused why I'm not hearing from her.
Right.
I think going for a walk in the park and having dinner,
being too romantic, probably not.
Like taking a helicopter to the dinner in a different country, maybe that's too romantic.
But just going for a walk in the park.
That sounds like a nice date.
Well, then what do you think went wrong? You can't think of anything?
I mean, when we went to dinner, our waiter was a little bit of a jerk.
I tipped low.
You tipped low?
Like below 20%?
He was a real jerk.
I was like 15.
Well, 15's not bad
if you don't have the best service, but...
It was more like 5.
What?
More like 5%?
Okay, that's not very good.
More like 5.
So you basically stiffed the waiter.
Yeah, but he had it coming, but...
Did you make a show of it?
No, I really didn't,
but she could tell I was real aggravated about it and stuff.
Even when I get bad service,
I still have a hard time tipping less than 20%.
Yeah, it is tough to do.
When your waiter's as bad as this guy was,
shoot, it's not hard for me.
Yeah, I mean, if she saw you basically not give the was, shoot, it's not hard for me. All right. Yeah.
I mean, if she saw you basically not give the guy a tip, that could be a turnoff.
I know if I was with someone and they didn't tip the waiter, it depends.
Like if the guy was terrible, I might be on board with that.
But if they didn't tip, as a former server myself, I would probably not want to call them back.
So maybe that's it.
All right.
Well, we'll play a song and then come back and call her and see if we can figure it out for you okay okay all right thanks yep we'll do it next it's a jubile show he didn't is on the phone and he went on a first date with
lila they went to dinner and went to the park they walked around he said everything went great
it's been two weeks since he's talked to her and she hasn't responded to any of his texts or phone
calls he said he's only reached out about three times, so nothing creepy.
And we asked him what the reason was that he thinks he's not getting the call back.
And the only thing he can think of is that he pretty much didn't give the waiter a tip because he said the waiter was a big jerk face.
He didn't say jerk face.
Those are my words.
And I know I went a little hard on that one, Aiden, but I feel like you thought the guy
was a jerk face.
Yeah, no, I would never call somebody a jerk face.
Yeah, that's way too far.
Yeah, that's reserved for the worst of the worst.
So Aiden said the guy was a bad waiter, and he didn't tip him well,
and he thinks that maybe Lila saw that, and that's the reason she doesn't want to call him back.
So ready to call her, Aiden?
Yeah, let's do this.
All right, here we go.
Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Lila, please?
This is she.
Hello, Lila.
My name is Jubal from the radio show, The Jubal Show.
And my name is Alex Fresh.
And I'm English Evan.
And we're all from the radio show, The Jubal Show. And my name is Alex Fresh. And I'm English Evan. And we're all from The Radio Show.
Um, okay.
So have you ever heard of The Jubal Show before?
I have.
Oh, you have, okay.
We do a segment on the show called The First Date Follow-Up.
It's where if you go out on a date with someone and then you don't call them back,
they can email us to get you on the phone.
Oh, all right.
Well, since you know know that's why we're
calling so do you have any idea about who we're calling about yeah i think i do is this about aiden
yes there it is okay correct we're calling about aiden okay do you want to tell us why you're not calling Aiden back?
Right.
So I have to say that it really was a result of the date that we went on.
You know, we had a nice time, but he would not stop smoking.
Smoking what?
Yeah.
Smoking cigarettes.
Oh, you're not a smoker? No, I'm not a smoker.
And honestly, a few would have been fine, but like he did it the entire night. How do you do
that in the entire night? Wasn't like, didn't you guys go to dinner? Was he taking breaks at dinner?
Oh wow. Oh my gosh. How many cigarettes do you think he, like cigarette breaks do you think he
took? I mean, I bet he had to get a new pack at the end of the night. Okay. Question for you.
Do you smoke? I don't. Do you vape? I don't vape either. They're different below those clouds,
bro. Anyway. Um, I like the, when you guys went to the park, that's kind of one thing
at dinner though, taking breaks during your date. I could see that definitely being a turnoff.
Yeah. Dinner was long. I mean, it was about two hours
and he would take a break and
then we're going to the park
and we're walking, we're talking, we're looking
at nature, but he's blowing smoke and it's
going back in my face. I'm choking
and it's just not fun. If you're not a
smoker, that's not the best feeling. Yeah.
Is smoking in general just a turnoff
for you or do you feel like he just, he's
a chance smoker? I mean? It's not the worst thing.
Look, I like going out and I know usually most events at night, they tend to have smokers and it's fine.
And I like him.
It's just he would have to cut back on the smoking.
That's asking a lot of someone too.
If they really like their cigarettes.
I used to smoke and I loved my cigarettes.
You did?
I did.
I mean, can't you like not do it on a first date though that much?
I mean, if you have to like one?
Yeah.
You know, not around that person either?
Yeah.
None of you take a break.
Like, hey, I'm really enjoying the story about your personal life and getting to know you.
One second.
I'll be back in 15 minutes.
I really need a cigarette.
Gotta go smoke.
Yeah.
So I didn't feel right asking someone to just cut back on their own smoking.
So I just figured I, you know.
Ghost him. I wouldn't ask for a second date.
All right.
Well, Lila, I'm going to need to take a smoke break real quick.
And I'll just tell you that Aiden is actually on the phone listening.
Oh, that's right.
Yes.
You forgot about that part, huh?
Aiden, are you still there or do you have to go grab a smoke?
That's ridiculous.
We had a fun time going on the date,
but now you're not going to talk to me or call me back because I was smoking?
I mean, it was a lot.
You didn't notice that I was coughing and kind of taking steps back behind you?
I mean, yeah, I noticed that.
I didn't think it was going to be a deal breaker though.
Yeah. I mean, like I said, like a couple of cigarettes are fine,
but like, dude, the entire time.
I mean, well, I mean, I've been smoking for a while.
Like it's just what I do, you know?
But I mean, yeah, I'm not going to cut that off,
especially if it was somebody who wasn't going to, like, tell me that.
You just kind of disappeared on me.
Do you think, Aiden, you could have taken a bit of a break from the smoking,
seeing as it was a first date?
I guess so.
I'm not going to lie.
I guess so.
But, like, man man I probably could have
took a break
on the second
date
if there was going to be one
but
I mean I guess
we could have talked
about that
Aiden did you at least
offer her a cigarette?
Well yeah
yeah I did
and she said
she didn't smoke
so I was like
oh okay cool
Yeah I mean he did offer it to me but I just said no thank you I'm not interested And she said she didn't smoke, so I was like, oh, okay, cool.
Yeah, I mean, he did offer it to me, but I just said, no, thank you.
I'm not interested.
Well, did you at least like him other than the fact that he smokes like that?
Yeah, I mean, I did like him, but honestly, Aiden, you'd have to cut way back on the smoking, man.
All right, so that's what it is. It's just the fact that he is a chain smoker and you don't smoke
in general and you just don't want to go with someone
who's constantly smoking.
He thought that you weren't calling him back
because he didn't give the waiter a tip.
Wait, what?
Yeah. Did you know that?
No, I didn't even notice that.
Wait, you didn't tip the waiter?
Well, I mean, I barely tipped him because he was an asshole.
Oh, no, that's messed up, man.
I've been in wait service.
That's messed up.
Yeah, but, I mean, he was a jerk.
You don't remember all that?
Got your order wrong.
The water had no ice in it.
Like, we both were real frustrated with it.
I mean, I'm frustrated. Maybe it's We both were real frustrated with it.
I mean, I'm frustrated.
Maybe it's just because I've been a waiter.
I know it's not always their fault.
Sometimes it's the kitchen.
Yeah, you were a waiter.
Once he gets a real job, he can get a real paycheck.
Oh, my.
Yikes.
Oh, that's an interesting attitude.
That's the attitude I would expect a smoker to have.
Everybody knows smokers and their inability to tip.
Shots fired.
What the hell is that supposed to mean?
I think that means it's time for me to ask if you guys want to go on another date.
Lila, would you like to go on another date with Aiden?
We'll pay for it.
Yeah, no, it doesn't sound like he's giving up smoking anytime soon.
The past.
Doesn't seem like she's going to be interesting
anytime soon.
Oh, okay.
Are you guys sure?
Because it literally
sounds like you.
I mean, it's a match
made in heaven right now.
My heart is about
to beat out of my chest.
Are you sure?
We'll pay for it.
Yeah, exactly.
We'll pay for it.
I'm good.
Yeah, no thanks.
