Starting point is 00:02:08 I'm I'm Yvalongoria. And I'm Maite Gomes-Ger-Huan, and this week on our podcast, Hungry for History, we talk oysters, plus the Mianbi Chief stops by. If you're not an oyster lover, don't even talk to me. Ancient Athenians used to scratch names onto oyster shells to vote politicians into exile. So our word ostracize is really. related to the word oyster. No way. Bring back the OsterCon.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Listen to Hungry for History on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First date of follow-up. Powered by the Advocates Injury Attorneys. Online at Advocateslaw.com. Anton is on the phone today for a first date follow-up, and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Jade. So in a few minutes, we'll call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him a second date. But first, Anton, how long has it been since you heard from Jade? About one week.
Starting point is 00:03:03 About a week, okay. Well, tell us about it. What was the date with Jade like? Yeah, it was cool. It was cool. You know, we met up at this really, you know, low-key spot. I got, like, you know, light food and some cocktails, and they had cool tables. You know, so we were going to play some cool.
Starting point is 00:03:24 We were just by them, you know? the lighting was dim music's good she's gorgeous she's absolutely gorgeous and like you know she's she's got her pool cue there
Starting point is 00:03:36 and like she's like leaning again and say I swear like it looked like like a magazine cover she's that gorgeous you know we're playing pool right
Starting point is 00:03:45 and it was one of these tricky shots and you can't like get it the right way go I was like I was going to do it like behind the back kind of shot
Starting point is 00:03:55 you know I must have hit the wrong angle, you know, because it, the ball just went, it went flying. And so it went into this, um, this booth. There was this other couple in this booth. And it, uh, it knocked over this girl's drink. Okay. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Uh, so, you know, I, I felt horrible. So, uh, you know, I, so I go over there and, you know, I apologize. And, and, um, and she was, you know, she was a little upset. And, and, you know, understandably so. So, you know, I, I bought her another drink, and I bought, you know, the whole table around a shot. And I apologize. And, you know, Jade is still over there by the pool table, and she's, you know, she's looking horrified. But, you know, once I saddle everything down, I go back over to her.
Starting point is 00:04:44 And she's joking around about, you know, she called me Mr. Trickshot after that, which is, you know, what can you do about those kinds? You have to laugh. Yeah. You know? Yeah. The whole thing was that we had chemistry. You know, we were, we had food and, you know, neither of us are really great. It pooled me, especially, you know.
Starting point is 00:05:08 And then, yeah, after the last game, we just, we hugged. She said, yeah, I remember, she said that I was unexpectedly charming, unexpectedly charming, you know, but that charming part's in there. The things that we hold on to, you know, in those moments that just make you feel so attached. You know, I'm looking for something. I mean, she is, you know, obviously, too. So today, in the past couple days, and I'm getting nothing texting back, you know. And I've been, and here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:05:43 I've been, I've been like replaying it in my mind. I'm like, did I mess up? Like, did I say something rude or, or, you know, that I look like a, like a jerk or something, you know, Like, and I, look, I realize I, I, I've got like a, like a goofy energy about me, you know what I mean? And, and I, I understand that. That's who I, who I am. And, but, I mean, she seemed like into that, you know, we're kind of, like I said, we were, we were, we were, we were, we were, we were, we were, we were laughing. And she's got this great, like, like, like, gut laugh that, you know, comes from, like, deep inside. And it's, I don't know. I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't know what happened. So, uh, I'm trying to figure out what, what did I. do you know that's where we're at right now well you definitely sound like you're really into her so was there um did she act weird at any point like after you were confronting some lady or like
Starting point is 00:06:35 yeah no i mean i wasn't like you know like pulling a crack out or you know you know you know or like are picking my now and you know no it was it was like a really really solid first date it was probably the first really great solid date i've had in a long time and that's why i'm You know, I'm trying to figure out, wait, what, what the heck happened? All right, well, we'll see if we can help you out. We'll play a song, come back, and then call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you and maybe get you another date, okay? Yeah, yeah, that'd be, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:07 All right, we'll get your first day follow up next. In the new podcast, Hell in Heaven, two young Americans move to the Costa Rican jungle to start over, but one will end up dead. The other tried for murder. Not once. People went wild. Not twice. Stunned.
Starting point is 00:07:31 But three times. John and Ann Bender are rich and attractive, and they're devoted to each other. They create a nature reserve and build a spectacular circular home high on the top of a hill. But little by little, their dream starts to crumble, and our couple retreat from reality. They lose it. They actually lose it.
Starting point is 00:07:56 They sort of went nuts. Until one night, everything spins out of control. Listen to Hell in Heaven on the I-Heart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Samihante, it's Anna Ortiz. And I'm Mark and Delicado. You might know us as Hilda. And Justin.
Starting point is 00:08:20 From Ugly Betty. We played mother and son on the show, but it really, real life. We're best friends. And I'm all grown up now. Welcome to our new podcast. Viva Bethy! Yay! Woo-hoo! Can you believe it has been almost 20 years? That's not even possible. Well, you're the only one that looks that much different. I look exactly the same. We're re-watching the series from start to finish and getting into all the fashions, the drama, and the behind-the-scenes moments that you've never heard before. You're going to hear from guests like America Ferreira, Vanessa Williams, Michael Yuri, Becky Newton, Tony Plana, and so many more.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Icons, each and everyone. All of a sudden, like, someone, like, comes running up to me, and it's Selma Hayek. And she's like, you are my ugly bitchy. And I was like, what is she even talking about? Listen to Viva Betty as part of the My Cultura Podcast Network, available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey guys, it's Stephanie Beatriz and Melissa Fumero, and this is more better. We are jumping right in and ready to hear from you.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Your thoughts, your questions, your feelings about socks with sandals. And we're ready to share some possibly questionable advice and hot takes. God, that sucks so hard, though. I'm so sorry. Can you out petty them? Can you match their pettiness for funsies? Yeah. We had so much fun last season, laughing, crying, talking to some new and old friends.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Remember when we were in that scene where you guys were just supposed to hug and I was standing. Oh, yeah. And I was like, can I also hug them? I'm like, this f*** has no friends. And this time around, we are, say it, Melissa. Should I? Say it. Getting a little more better.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Oh, finally. It's all the dressing room talks you've loved in season one. All the things. Because aren't we all trying to get a little more better? Listen to more better on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Right in the middle of your first date, follow up. And if you're just joining us, Anton is on the phone and Anton is getting ghosted by a woman named Jade. And we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him a second date.
Starting point is 00:10:33 But before we do that, Anton, why don't you break down your date again for us real quick? Yeah, we went out. We played cool. We were really viking. and I thought everything was going great. I made one bad shot, really. But it felt great. We, you know, we hugged afterwards.
Starting point is 00:10:53 We said that, you know, we'll talk. And then I've, you know, tried to reach out a couple of times now. And I'm getting nothing. So I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. All right. Well, are you ready for us to call her? Yeah, yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Hello? Hi, may I speak to Jade, please? Hey, this is Jade. Hey, Jade, how are you? This is a radio show and it's called The Jubal Show. Hi, Jade. I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria. And my name is Jubal. How are you?
Starting point is 00:11:29 Hey, I'm good. Have you ever listened to the show before? I may have. I may have. If you haven't, I'll just let you know why we're calling. We do a segment on the show and it's called the first date follow-up. So that's where if you go out on a date with somebody and they end up ghosting you, that person can email us to call you and ask why you're ghosting them. And we got an email about you from somebody.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Oh, my God. Okay. Do you know who might email us about you? I kind of have an idea. This is kind of awkward. I did go on a date recently. So. What's his name?
Starting point is 00:12:05 Yeah. I didn't want to hurt his feelings. His name's Anton. Yeah. And Anton is the person who e-hmm. emailed us. He said he really liked you. We talked to him a little bit about your date, and he was wondering if you wouldn't mind telling us why you're ghosting him. I really didn't want to hurt his feelings. I really didn't. So that's why you ghosted him?
Starting point is 00:12:28 There was one big thing that happened at night. I'll be honest with you. But the biggest thing of it all was that he apologized too much. He apologized too much. Wait, that's why you're ghosting him? Yeah. Well, to me, you always hear about females saying, oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry about everything. Yeah. Don't be sorry. Like, you say sorry for the sake of saying sorry kind of thing. He did that from the beginning and up until this big event that happened. Like, even when we were ordering drinks at the bar, bartender comes over. Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt you. Like, he's constantly saying sorry.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Okay. And that bothered you? You want to date somebody that's going to take a little bit of charge of a situation? I kind of get that. yes exactly like didn't have like masculine trait that I was kind of thinking as well in terms of that um just even doing well like in pool like apologizing oh sorry like sorry I made that shot okay so he was just apologizing a ton what did you say when he kept saying sorry were you just like okay yeah I'm like it's okay and by the end I'm like you can stop saying I'm sorry don't worry it's fine like I'm then I'm trying to like shoot him just trying to make him feel better was just so he wasn't like just a person who says like hey sorry about that
Starting point is 00:13:43 really upset about it well so the place that we went we played cool and the big incident i was kind of mentioning was he was making a shot and it ended up hitting another table of people that were enjoying their drinks and chilling and yeah so he that just turned into like a bigger deal than it had to be he ended up even like feeling like he had to buy them the whole round of shots replacing the drink like it's just over the top Well, he kind of mentioned that. I thought that was kind of a nice way to recover after you disrupt somebody's thing. I don't know if I'm being a little cheap here, but I'm like, you don't need to buy them all this stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:19 It was an accident. That's why it's called an accident. Okay. Yeah, I just felt like he was going to be like a pushover kind of vibe. Okay. I mean, that's fair. You know when you're going to bulldoze somebody. That's just not a good time.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Well, thank you for telling us, Jade. I appreciate it. And now I'll let you know that Anton is on the phone and wants to talk to you. Oh, well. Wow. Okay. Anton? Yeah. Wait.
Starting point is 00:14:44 So I'm polite. That's a bad thing. But I'm sorry that I don't understand that if, you know, I'm being polite and being nice to people. And, you know, sometimes, you know, things happen. And what are you going to do? You know, I'm sorry, but that's the way things are. Anton, you literally just said sorry again, by the way. Anton, listen, it's not bad.
Starting point is 00:15:05 It's just that it's a little bit too much. and I honestly thought you had a tick at first. He had a what? A tick. Like it's like a compulsive thing, but he had to like stay and do. And so it's not bad. It's just I can't do that. Can't be with that.
Starting point is 00:15:22 What do you even, what do you even mean? I was being polite. Okay, but what about when the drink got spilled over? You looked like you were kind of going to get upset about it. Like you were not only embarrassed, but you're like you were going to cry. I didn't say, no, that's what. I was not about to cry. That's, that's, look, she, she had an issue, and I was letting her vent,
Starting point is 00:15:42 her frustration to, to get it out so she can feel, you know, heard about that. Because, you know, the drink is, I caused that, you know, I spilled her drink. And that's not bad. What am I supposed to do? You know, just, just be a, and just that, oh, yeah, you told what, you know, whatever, I'm playing pool, you stay over there. You know, that's not, that's not what I'm about. I'm going to be polite.
Starting point is 00:16:05 That's what, that's the way I was taught. Anton, there's a difference between being polite and then being a little, a little bit of a bitch. Like, you're over there feeling, I felt like you, like, worked for the table at one point. Like, you're hitting here trying to wipe up everything. You didn't ruin anyone's outfit. Like, you got to think about the big picture. You were very, very dramatic. It's not even that you're too nice.
Starting point is 00:16:26 It's just you're not confident. I don't even know. I don't even know where, how could you even say that? I, I would argue, I'm very confident. Okay. This is, what we're talking about is, you know, that's a first date. And sometimes, and you know what, that can be, that can be tough. So I don't know anybody who's, you know, running on all full cylinders on a, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:49 I'm sorry, I'm not confident enough for you, you know. I was just being polite in front of everybody. I mean, even, I don't know, sure if you heard me when I was speaking with the host, but even when we ordered drinks, you're apologizing. Oh, sorry. Like, you're a paying customer. You have to apologize for everything. You can be a paying customer and still have kindness in your heart, you know?
Starting point is 00:17:14 Jade, would you like to go out with Anton again on the second day? We'll pay for it. I mean, no. What do you think? No. There was a chance. You know, good. That's absolutely, you know, you know what this is?
Starting point is 00:17:28 This is, this is, you know, like, like, like, danger avoided, okay? And you know what? Jake, I think you're going to be fine. I know you're going to be absolutely fine. I'm sure you'll find a new date with, you know, a little pug nose and a curly tail, and he probably goes oink, oink, you know. I didn't know where we were going there. How's this for being nice, okay?
Starting point is 00:17:52 For you, Jay, here's, I got one word for you. Boo. You can take that to the bank and, you know, and oh, oh, I'm saying. I'm so sorry that I wasn't even mean enough for me. See, we're ridiculous. You don't even know. Well, I don't know. Joubles' first date follow-up.
