Starting point is 00:02:06 you get your podcasts. First date of follow up powered by the advocates injury attorneys online at advocateslaw.com. Ben is on the phone today for your first date follow up and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Riley. So in a second, we're going to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe give him another day. But first, Ben, how long has it been since you talked to Riley? It's like a week and a half now.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Have you been trying to reach out to her? I'm sure not to be crazy, but you know, two messages. Okay. You just want to know how blatantly ghosted you are. Oh, I feel very good. It's so long. I know that sucks. I'm sorry. Okay. Let's talk about your date know that sucks. I'm sorry. Yeah. Um, okay. Let's talk about your date. How did you meet her?
Starting point is 00:02:47 What? How did you leave it? Personally, I think the date went, you know, there was a little bit of awkwardness, but it was like a good date. We're in the same field. So we've known each other forever, like, or not forever, but like professional lives. We've known each other. Okay. their professional lives we've known each other okay okay we've been talking just like like friends or co-worker or co-whatever and then one day like there was this like thing where we I noticed and I just was like what's trying to do
Starting point is 00:03:16 a date and so this was the first one of those okay well that's kind of an ideal situation yeah how was the date I wouldn't be calling it. I thought this was like a bad date. I thought the date was great. What did y'all do? She met up at my place, but then we walked to the really great restaurant near my, near me. And then so we walked there, had dinner, dinner was great. Came back, movie.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Was there any part of this that started to get a little awkward or off? The one thing that was awkward was on the TV was some dirty video content. Like when you turned on your TV? That was the last thing you were watching? Yeah. In my difference, it was the night before. It wasn't like that's what I was doing right before the day.
Starting point is 00:04:08 I got home, I brushed my teeth, I took a shower, I went. It was on for me. What the hell? What is that? Wait, either way. Okay. So you turned on the TV and she saw what you had been watching that you probably don't want people seeing what you were watching.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Oh gosh. It's definitely not on first day. The thing is though, we laughed it off. Okay. Because she noticed. Are you sure she noticed? Oh yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:32 I mean I didn't know how happy she was. Yeah. Yeah. You can't unsee what you saw. Okay. She laughed it off but did it seem like it bothered her? No. That's not.
Starting point is 00:04:43 That's what I was saying. It was like a hiccup. It didn't feel like a hiccup. OK, like it didn't know like she she was that's how cool she is, like she didn't make it a thing. Well, she's maybe being polite because also it kind of feels like
Starting point is 00:04:55 are you trying to drop a hand? Yeah, like is this what you want? That looks fun, huh? I just know that it's weird that we haven't talked in so many days. Well, how did you leave it? That is the, I guess the second thing up that I feel is I just didn't feel that we like the let's go in for the kiss moment. And so I just we didn't do that.
Starting point is 00:05:20 And so just like, let's leave it, but like not leave it and not a date okay yeah but and she has been ignoring all of your phone calls and texts and stuff yeah yeah yeah yeah okay well we'll try to figure it out we'll play a song come back and then call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you and maybe get you another date, alright? Yeah, I'm pink. Alright, we'll play a song, come back, get your first date, follow up next. Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You. This year, it's more you on Bumble. More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes.
Starting point is 00:06:10 More of you finding Geminis because you know you always like them. More of you dating with intention because you know what you want. And you know what? We love that for you. Someone else will too. Be more you this year and find them on Bumble. There was a moment that should have broken me but just because of how I was raised and my bullishness and arrogance to want to be great hardened me. It gave me a platform to be so singularly focused on greatness. We all have moments like this. Something happens
Starting point is 00:06:41 that's supposed to break us. But it's in these moments that we discover what we're really made of. I promise you, if anyone knows this, it's me. Starting point is 00:09:17 You can find us on the iHeart radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast presented by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women Sports. Right in the middle of today's first day of follow up. If you're just joining us, Ben is on the phone and he's getting ghosted by Riley. So we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date. But first, Ben, why don't you recap your situation for us? We've been friends for a long time. We finally made the decision to go on a date We went on a pretty good day there. There was a couple hiccups no kiss at the end. There was Playing when when we when she got back to my place
Starting point is 00:10:05 Yeah accidentally playing when we when she got back to my place. Accidentally. Yeah, accidentally. It was something playing the night before, but it could have been the thing. I don't think it is. Alright, well, we'll give her a call and see if we can figure it out for you. Ready? Yep, yep. Okay, here is she. Hey Riley, how are you?
Starting point is 00:10:28 My name is Jubal. I'm calling from a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show. Yeah, the show's here Riley. I'm Nina. Hi, and I'm Victoria. How are you? Hi.
Starting point is 00:10:36 Hi. I'm the little cur. I'm the little cur. I'm the little cur. I'm the little cur. I'm the little cur. I'm the little cur. I'm the little cur.
Starting point is 00:10:44 I'm the little cur. I'm the little cur. I'm here. Riley, I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria. How are you? Hi. I'm a little confused. Why are you guys calling me? Have you ever listened to the show before? I mean, it's been a while, but I don't know why you guys are
Starting point is 00:10:59 calling me. Well, we do a segment on the show called the first date follow up. That's where if you go on a date with somebody and then end up ghosting them, we call you and ask why. And we got an email about you from somebody. Oh really?
Starting point is 00:11:11 Are you ghosting somebody? Uh huh. I mean... Yeah, just a little bit. Is his name Ben? Yeah. How does Ben say Ben? Just a little bit.
Starting point is 00:11:24 Yeah. Ben emailed us and told us a little bit about your date. He also said he likes you a lot and he's confused why he's getting ghosted. Would you mind telling us? I don't know if I should. That's okay. You can tell us. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:41 Well, I'm pretty sure he was high when we met up. Oh, why do you think so? So we stopped by at his apartment and it really stink of weed. It really did. Okay. And he just looked so disconnected. It was just like he was out in outer space and like, couldn't talk to him like the whole entire date. It was just like, couldn't get like full sentences from him
Starting point is 00:12:17 and you know, since we've known each other for a long time, it's the whole opposite of who I really know. I mean, maybe he was kind of nervous, you know, some people like to take a shot before they go on a date and then maybe like that's not his jam, but like, he just, you know, like smoked a little bowl real quick. I mean, maybe, but I just didn't know Ben was a loser. Oh.
Starting point is 00:12:41 So you don't like that if he was stoned Yeah, when it comes to bad like you just he's just not the same person You know, he's like full on sentences and such on our date. It was just like Yeah It's alright You felt like you're talking to a wall Yes a big stone wall. Okay. All alright. Well, thank you for telling us. Appreciate it. And now I'll let you know that Ben is actually on the phone listening and wants to talk to you. Oh, hey.
Starting point is 00:13:14 You have a weed? You don't, you have a problem with weed? That was your takeaway? How are you? Perfect. We're areliers like you. Our job is the creative. Yeah, it's I'm I'm I'm I'm, yeah, I'm baffled that like what we're we're adults. It's it's like people smoke weed.
Starting point is 00:13:37 So you are high. Yeah, I'm high right now. I'm high. I can't work. I have to work. Yeah, like what? I mean, yeah, I'm hiring out. I'm high. Yeah. Like what? Yeah. I'm an adult. This is just what I do through the day. I think everyone knew I, I'm high. I'm like, it's not a problem, but I am high. You are totally different from work and on a date.
Starting point is 00:14:06 So. Yeah, that's because there's work weed and then there's after work weed. And I, it's so weird. I don't even think I didn't even do much anymore. Like no, no, no one ever, this is the first person I ever checked me on. Like, Oh yeah, you were high. I mean, I don't know. I'm trying to follow you right now, Ben.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I only have a little bit flustered. This is not, I cannot believe this is the problem. I thought this was like, nah, just when we were in it, we understood each other. You're just not the person I thought you were. Like, I felt like I was talking to a wall on our date. Oh, yeah. Yeah. OK, that's that's OK.
Starting point is 00:14:51 That's that's chilling me, I guess. You know, I don't want this to be weird. Can we like still be friends? Is this like a really like done? Well, let me ask Riley, would you like to go on another date with Ben? We'll pay for it. I mean, I definitely don't want to go on a second date with Ben, but I'm cool with us being friends.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Okay. I, we're going to be friends. Like you want to come over and smoke weed and play some video games. This is what I do with all my other friends. No, I don't do that, but we can still be friends. All right. Well, Ben, I'm sorry. No second date and no video games. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:36 All right. Well, this is embarrassing. I'm going to have to go smoke some disappointment weed. Jubals first date follow up. I'll smoke some disappointment weed. Okay.
