Starting point is 00:03:24 Powered by the advocates, injury attorneys online at advocateslaw.com. Ben is on the phone today for your first date follow up and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Riley. So in a second, we're going to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe give him another day. But first Ben,
Starting point is 00:03:39 how long has it been since you talked to Riley? It's like a week and a half now. Have you been trying to reach out to her? I, you know, I'm trying not to be crazy, but, you know, two messages. Okay. I mean, you know, you just want to know
Starting point is 00:03:51 how blatantly ghosted you are. Oh, I feel very ghosted. It's so long. It's so long. I know that sucks. I'm sorry. Okay, let's talk about your date. How did you meet her?
Starting point is 00:04:01 How did you leave it? Personally, I think the date went, you know, there was a little bit of awkwardness, leave it personally i think the date went you know there was a little bit of awkwardness but it was like a good date we're in the same field so we've known each other forever like or not forever but like in our professional lives we've known each other okay we've been talking just like like friends or co-worker or co-whatever and then one day there was this thing where I noticed and I just was like, let's try to do a date.
Starting point is 00:04:30 And so this was the first one of those. Well, that's kind of an ideal situation. How was the date? I wouldn't be calling if I thought this was a bad date. I thought the date was great. What did y'all do? She met up at my place but then we walked
Starting point is 00:04:47 to the there's a really great restaurant near my near me and then so we walked there um had dinner dinner was great came back movie um was there any part of this that started to get a little awkward or off the one thing that was awkward was on the TV with some dirty video content. Like when you turned on your TV? That was the last thing you were watching?
Starting point is 00:05:15 Yeah. In my defense, it was the night before. It wasn't like that's what I was doing right before the day. I got home, I brushed my teeth, I took a shower, I went. It was on, but it wasn't. Well, either way. So you turned on the TV and she saw what you
Starting point is 00:05:32 had been watching that you probably don't want people seeing what you were watching. It's definitely not a first date. The thing is, though, we laughed it off. So she noticed. Are you sure she noticed? Oh, yeah. I just didn't know how obvious it was yeah yeah you can't unsee what you saw okay she laughed it off but did it seem like it bothered
Starting point is 00:05:53 her no that's not i that's what i was saying it was like a hiccup but it didn't feel like a hiccup okay like it didn't know like she she was that's how cool she is like she didn't make it a thing well she's maybe being polite because also it kind of feels like are you trying to drop a hint yeah like is this what you want that looks fun huh i just know that it's weird that we haven't talked in so many days well how did you leave it that is the i I guess the second hang up that I feel is I just didn't feel that week. Like the, let's go in for the kiss moment. And so I just,
Starting point is 00:06:32 we didn't do that. And so it just was like, let's leave it, but like not leave it as a, not a date. Okay. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:43 And she has been ignoring all of your phone calls and texts and stuff yeah yeah two messages but you know yeah
Starting point is 00:06:52 she's seen them okay well we'll try to figure it out we'll play a song come back and then call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you
Starting point is 00:06:58 and maybe get you another date alright yeah thanks alright we'll play a song come back get your first day follow up next Yeah, thanks. All right, well, play a song, come back, get your first day follow-up next. Hey, everyone.
Starting point is 00:07:11 It's Katie Couric. Well, the election is in the homestretch, and I'm exhausted. But turns out the end is near, right in time for a new season of my podcast, Next Question. This podcast is for people like me who need a little perspective and insight. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like Ezra Klein, Van Jones, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also going to have some fun,
Starting point is 00:07:39 even though these days, fun and politics seems like an oxymoron. But we'll do that thanks to some of my friends like Samantha Bee, Roy Wood Jr., and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well. I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about? Power to the podcast for the people. Starting point is 00:08:11 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Right in the middle of today's first day follow-up, if you're just joining us, Ben is on the phone and he's getting ghosted by Riley. So we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date but first ben why don't you recap your situation for us we've been friends for a long time we finally made the decision to go on a date we went on a pretty good date there there was a couple hiccups no kiss at the end. There was some video playing when she got back to my place. Accidentally. Yeah, accidentally.
Starting point is 00:08:54 It was something playing the night before, but it could have been the thing. I don't think it is. All right, well, we'll give her a call and see if we can figure it out for you. Are you ready? Yep, yep. Okay, here we go. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Riley, please?
Starting point is 00:09:21 Yeah, this is she. Hey, Riley, how are you? My name is Jubal. I'm calling from a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show. Yeah, the show's here, Riley. I'm Nina. Hi, and I'm Victoria. How are you? Hi. Hi. I'm a little confused.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Why are you guys calling me? Have you ever listened to the show before? I mean, it's been a while, but I don't know why you guys are calling me. Well, we do a segment on the show called the First Aid Follow-Up. That's where if you go on a date with somebody and then end up ghosting them, we call you and ask why. And we got an email about you from somebody.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Oh, really? Are you ghosting somebody? I mean, yeah, just a little bit. Is his name Ben? Yes. What is a little bit? Yeah. Ben emailed us and told us a little bit about your date.
Starting point is 00:10:13 He also said he likes you a lot and he's confused why he's getting ghosted. Would you mind telling us? I don't know if I should. Well, it's okay. You can tell us. Yeah. Okay. Well, I'm pretty sure he was high when we met up.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Okay. Why would you think so? So, we stopped by at his apartment, and it really stank of weed. It really did. Okay. And he just looked so disconnected. And it really stank of weed. It really did. Okay. And he just was so disconnected. It was just like he was out in outer space and, like, couldn't talk to him, like, the whole entire day.
Starting point is 00:10:57 It was just, like, couldn't get, like, full sentences from him. And, you know, since we've known each other for a long time, it's the opposite of who I really know. I mean, maybe he was kind of nervous. You know, some people like to take a shot before they go on a date. And then maybe, like, that's not his jam. But, like, he just, you know, smoked a little bowl real quick. I mean, maybe, but I just didn't know Ben was a loser oh
Starting point is 00:11:26 so you don't like that if he was stoned yeah when it comes to Ben like he just he's just not the same person you know he has like the long sentences and such and on our date and was just like yeah
Starting point is 00:11:41 it's alright you felt like you were talking to a wall yes a big stone wall and was just like, yeah, it's all right. You felt like you were talking to a wall. Yes, a big stone wall. Okay. All right. Well, thank you for telling us. Appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:11:53 And now I'll let you know that Ben is actually on the phone listening and wants to talk to you. Oh. Hey, you have a weed? You have a problem with weed? That was your takeaway? I do. Oh, perfect.
Starting point is 00:12:08 We're artists. Our job is to be creative. Yeah, I'm baffled. Like, what? We're adults. It's like people smoke weed. So you're high. Yeah, I'm high right now.
Starting point is 00:12:27 I'm high afterwards. Yeah, I'm an adult. This is just what I do through the day. It's not everyone new. It's not a problem, but I am high most of the time. You are totally different from work and on our date, so. Yeah, that's because there's work weed, and then there's after work weed,
Starting point is 00:12:58 and it's so weird. I don't even think, it doesn't even do much anymore. Like, no one ever, this is the first person to ever check me on. Like,'t even think, I don't even do much anymore. Like no one, like no one ever, this is the first person I ever checked me on. Like, oh yeah, you're high. I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:10 I'm trying to follow you right now, Ben. I, I'm, I only have a little bit of a question. This is not, I'm, I cannot believe
Starting point is 00:13:19 this is the problem. I thought this was like, nah, just like we were in it. We understood each other. You're just not the person I thought you were. Yeah, that's I felt like I was talking to a wall
Starting point is 00:13:31 on our date. So yeah. Yeah. Okay. That's okay. That's chilling me, I guess. You know, I don't want this to be weird. Can we like still be friends? Is this like a a really done? Well, let me ask.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Riley, would you like to go on another date with Ben? We'll pay for it. I mean, I definitely don't want to go on a second date with Ben, but I'm cool with us being friends. Okay, we're going to be friends? You want to come over and smoke weed and play some video games? Yeah. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:14:08 This is what I do with all my other friends. No, I don't do that, but we can still be friends. All right, well, Ben, I'm sorry, no second date and no video games. Yeah. All right, well, this is a little embarrassing. I'm going to have to go smoke some disappointment games. Yeah. All right. Well, this is a little embarrassing. I'm going to have to go smoke some disappointment weed. Okay. Jubal's First Date Follow-Up.
