Starting point is 00:02:53 First day to follow up. Powered by the Advocates Injury Attorneys, online at Advocateslaw. Charlie is on the phone today for a first date follow-up, and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Penelope. So in a few minutes, we're going to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him a second date. But first, Charlie, how long has it been since you heard from Penelope? Well, the ghost watch has been on for about a full week now.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Oh, no, not the Ghost Watch. Sounds like you have a sense of humor about it. Yeah, but I mean, it's been seven days at this point. You've got to know it's a... I get the feeling it's a decision. Have you tried to break the no contact? Not really. It's just kind of, I just want to kind of see what's going on.
Starting point is 00:03:39 I mean, I haven't really reached out, but I think there was just something that may have gone wrong last time we met, and maybe it led to something, and I hope it didn't. Something had to change. I just feel like something had to change, you know. I mean, I think she's a great person. And I think she's a very full, elegant girl, you know, the type of drinks herbal tea and can keep the plant alive emotionally. So what did you guys do for your date then?
Starting point is 00:04:07 I took her to an indoor plant, terrarium. My pronunciation is bad. She's saying terranium, but I know it's something else. Terrarium, right? Somewhere that, where indoor plants are, a workshop. Because it just seemed like she had that vibe. She had like that calm. You got a girl, she's calm, confident.
Starting point is 00:04:25 she has that raspy I read novels in bed type voice in a cute cozy earthy so we were like you know it was a botany
Starting point is 00:04:35 getting in the business we're at this thing so let me just say that we're at this workshop and the guide said something basically said don't touch anything behind the velvet rope because some plants are just toxic to skin
Starting point is 00:04:47 and that I told her that I know my way around foliage like so the smooth as I could as compound as I could reach over that rope and I touched the shiny leaf there I don't really know how to describe it too well if it's like a shiny leaf play it just look like royalty right okay and so next one is a sign that says like toxic sap don't handle you know but that just makes you want to grab it more so so yeah I that's what I do
Starting point is 00:05:18 like they told me not to do something I want to do it I'm obsessed so I go I try to shake my hand off of the sap, wiped it off my shirt, and then I wiped it on a brochure, I wiped it on a fern, and then they handed me a white, like wet wipes, costume wipes,
Starting point is 00:05:35 and, and yeah, she just had this look on her face. Like, this was just an absolute train wreck. But, you know, I wanted to show her that,
Starting point is 00:05:45 you know, I'm a guy who's willing to touch poison for her. So that's what you said, I would touch poison for you. Yeah, but it was cool after. I'm, I'm just trying to get,
Starting point is 00:05:54 the street the person that was conducting the stuff told you don't touch the plants because it's it's toxic then on the other side of the rope there's a sign that says don't touch the plants because it's toxic and then you touch the plants I just want to be clear double negative
Starting point is 00:06:09 okay double negative so I just went in I mean there's a chance yeah there is a chance that this could be the reason you're getting ghost to read that and call it double negative is amazing I'm sorry I love that I didn't think there was anything wrong with
Starting point is 00:06:24 I didn't think it was because she nudged my shoulder, you know, that's touch. We shared a lavender tea. Oh. She said she had plant enthusiasm energy. It said to me that I had this energy, just plant enthusiasm energy. We had a vibe. You don't just sip hammer meel next to Mossart with someone if you're not spiritually linked. And the link is there.
Starting point is 00:06:46 And one minute we're breathing in you to lift us fog together, which smells great. And the next minute she's gone like very. gold. Now, I'm ghosted, days lost, confused. I don't know if I'm still poisoned, but it's, it's been a week. I'm doing fine. But, yeah, I just, you know, I should okay. Well, what, what happened? Well, let's call her and find out. We'll play a song, come back, and then call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you and maybe get you a second date, okay? Yeah, you got it. All right. We'll get your first day follow up next. On the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric,
Starting point is 00:07:26 I sat down with Bernie Sanders, who is 84 years old, has spent 34 years in Congress, and he can still pack a rally with people a quarter of his age. Denver, 34,000 people come out, Salt Lake City, 20,000 people are huge turnouts. People are really dissatisfied about the status quo. His fighting oligarchy tour with AOC and other young progressives has become a movement. But is his message too far to the left? Well, he certainly doesn't think so. Is that like a radical idea, Katie? Is that too far left for you? Okay, okay. I get your point,
Starting point is 00:08:03 Bernie. We talk about the billionaire class, the cost of living, and of course, the government shutdown, not to mention the current state of the Democratic Party. To me, the failure of the Democratic Party has been an unwillingness to recognize the realism. Open your free iHeartRadio app search next question with katie currick and listen now she said johnny the kids didn't come home last night along the central texas plains teens are dying suicides that don't make sense strange accidents and brutal murders in what seems to be a plot ripped straight out of breaking bad drugs alcohol trafficking of people there are people out there that absolutely know what happened.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Listen to Paper Ghosts, the Texas Teen Murders, on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Robert Smith. This is Jacob Goldstein, and we used to host a show called Planet Money. And now we're back making this new podcast called Business History about the best ideas and people and businesses in history. And some of the worst people, horrible ideas, and destructive companies in the history of business.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Having a genius idea without a need for it is nothing. It's like not having it at all. It's a very simple, elegant lesson. Make something people want. First episode, How Southwest Airlines Use Cheap Seats and Free Whiskey to fight its way into the airline business. The Most Texas Story Ever. There's a lot of Mavericks in that story. We're going to have Mavericks on the show.
Starting point is 00:09:42 We're going to have plenty of robber barons. So many robber barons. And you know what? They're not all bad. And we'll talk about some of the classic great moments of famous business geniuses, along with some of the darker moments that often get overlooked, like Thomas Edison and the electric chair. Listen to business history on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get
Starting point is 00:10:02 your podcast. Right in the middle of your first date, follow up, and if you're just joining us, Charlie is on the phone, and he's getting ghosted by Penelope, so we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him a second date. But first, before we do that, Charlie, why don't you break down your situation again real quick? Yeah, met this girl. She's very independent. Had a nice vibe out there.
Starting point is 00:10:24 So she seemed like the type would go out to a terrarium, check out some plants. They told me not to. I touched a few of them. I see, you know, things got a little weird. And I just want to know why she goes with me. You sound like a funny guy, Charlie, but also a wild time. All right. Are you ready for us to call her?
Starting point is 00:10:43 Yeah, let's get it. Let's see what's happening. All right. Here we go. What you think. Hello. Hi, me, I speak to Penelope, please. Hey, Penelope, how are you?
Starting point is 00:11:05 This is a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show. Hi, Penelope. I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria. And my name is Jubal. What's up? How are you?
Starting point is 00:11:12 I'm okay. Wait, the radio show. Old school. Okay. This is happening. Is it full moon? I don't know, but we do do a segment called the first date follow-up on our show. That's where if you go on a date with someone and you ghost them,
Starting point is 00:11:27 that person can email us to ask why you're ghosting them. And we got an email about you from someone. Oh, interesting. Okay, this is hysterical. All right, go on. So is there anybody that you can think of that you went out with recently that you have been ghosting? Yeah, there's one guy I can think of. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:48 What's his name? his name is Charlie yes it is Charlie Charlie emailed us and told us about your dates that he really liked you and he's wondering why you're not getting back to him and would you mind telling us
Starting point is 00:12:02 I don't know what he told you but this guy touched some poisonous step and stung his hand it was very traumatizing kind of funny but it was weird it threw me off And just when things are getting back on track, like, during the date, he yelled at this lady who was leading the day, like the events of the date.
Starting point is 00:12:27 And then remember he had touched poison or sap, but he blamed her for not warning him about the dangers of this staff. And, I mean, he literally asked to speak to a manager, like a supervisor. It was a really big turnoff. Oh. Hold on. I wasn't yelling. I was advocating from public safety. I mean, if there's toxicoli is present, I deserve a fair warning.
Starting point is 00:12:52 What the act is going on right now? It's so weird. That's actually, Charlie, he's on the other line listening and wants to talk to you. Yeah, hey, and I wasn't yelling, okay? Hold on, I was not yelling, okay? I want the people to know, I was advocating for public safety. There is toxic folioge present in this small establishment. Yeah, I know there were signs, but you should see how small that's,
Starting point is 00:13:18 sign was like you i couldn't even finish reading it until my hand was already like an inch into the sap i already had fingers in the step like a comb in the honey when i already went and read that sign it was so small it should not count i mean what if my hand gone numb what if i had lost mobility what if i spread out of the t-shirt that's someone else more the t-shirt it tingled your hand literally tingled. You weren't like trekking through the Amazon. You gently brush a shiny leaf in a
Starting point is 00:13:53 Climatron. Like, you're next to a boutique tea there. And it could have been worse. There's a tea bar right there. There's like an herbarium. Like, you can't, this wasn't the jungle. I know you know your cheese way more than I know. T's.
Starting point is 00:14:09 All I know about T's is how to cross them and dot some eyes. Like, it could have been worse. There was risk, okay? my cuticles were fully exposed. So didn't you do this because you wanted the risk, Charlie? I'm so confused. Yeah. Well, yeah, I'm a man of danger,
Starting point is 00:14:25 but I want to set an example for future kids and people in my shoes to not have to run in such careless sap without a proper word. Okay, Princess Coutunia. It wasn't just plant sap. It's not like it's napalm or anything. she should have warned us better there was no urgency none no she literally said please do not touch anything behind the velvet rope
Starting point is 00:14:54 some plants are toxic that was the first thing she said i'm pretty sure that was pretty clear vibes with that for the rest of the night she said it like please recycle not like touch that and you might lose a finger oh my god like when she's supposed to scream it like it required a dramatic like TED talk or something like something's just saying don't touch something behind a rope literally just mean don't touch that i was actually trying to impress you because i said i knew bullions and i are committed yeah well you committed for sure to a rash and basically an apology toward the whole night oh i apologize to the fern i wiped my shirt on yes because it wasn't an innocent fern had no business being a part of the right right you apologize to the plant before you apologize to the lady that you
Starting point is 00:15:46 scolded but like that was weird it was a little symbolic of how you really live huh well of course she had a badge she was in a position of power she's a public figure this whole thing is ridiculous it wasn't the plant anyway that got blaming someone else for your mistake is just not my vibe i found accountability more attractive than like lying and passing it off, you know? I took accountability. I washed my hand. Yeah, and then you blamed a poor woman named Cheryl
Starting point is 00:16:19 who just wanted to talk to us about succulence. Like, that was the moment, dog. I could do it anymore. Oh, Phinellope, would you like another date with Charlie? We'll pay for it. No, I'm sorry, guys. I really am into men who, like, take responsibility for their actions, not men who choose the wage of verbal war with indoor gardening,
Starting point is 00:16:39 gardening staff or other ferns that didn't do anything. And for the record, I want you to know I did not wage war, okay? This was a sperm conversation between responsible adults. No, it was not. You asked for the supervisor, like some caring. I'm not doing on business. That's why we're done, you guys. Okay, all right.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Sorry, Charlie. The fern's doing well. Well, the fern handled everything better than you did. Charlie, okay. Jubil's first date follow-up.
