Starting point is 00:03:26 Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First date follow-up, powered by the Advocates Injury Attorneys, online at advocateslaw.com. Chrisanne is on the phone today for a first date follow-up. She's getting ghosted by a guy named Jake that she really likes. So in a few minutes, we're going to call him, see if he'll tell us why he's ghosting her and maybe get her another date. But first, Chrisanne, how long has it been since you heard from Jake?
Starting point is 00:03:50 It's been a week since he texted me back since the first date, or like the day after the date I texted him, and it's been a week since he's responded to me. So what did you say? What did you text him after the date? I just said, like, I thanked him for for the date said i had a great time and wanted to set up another date asked if he wanted to do it again um then he responded he had fun and that he would let me know and that was it
Starting point is 00:04:19 he didn't say anything after that i mean not a peep and it was just i mean it's i know it's weird because when we had our date like the week before we had our date we were talking every day and and like you know texting having some kind of communication every day and so for him to just go completely silent like it feels really off and i feel like there's something wrong. Okay. Let's go back to the date. What did you guys do? We went to a Mexican spot. He took me to a Mexican spot and we caught up. We had margaritas and ate tacos and I thought it went amazingly. Our spark was there instantly.
Starting point is 00:05:00 And I've always had a thing for Jake. And then like running into him made me feel like this whole thing was meant to be. And like the date went super well. We were laughing the whole time and like talking about all these new restaurants that we wanted to go and try together. And I mean, he seemed very genuinely interested in like he felt the same way. I think we have to back up a second. How did you guys meet then if you've always had a thing for him? We met probably about
Starting point is 00:05:27 five years ago at a friend's birthday party. But at the time, yeah, we were both in relationships at that time. So obviously like nothing came through. We kind of just have been friends on and off for the past five years.
Starting point is 00:05:44 And then a few weeks ago i ran into him and we just kind of got to talking as we're walking around and we both realized that we weren't in a relationship anymore so we were both single we decided that we should go on a date and he asked if i wanted to go out sometime and i said yeah i'd be interested and kind of just went from there wow i know i love that i love that except for the fact that he might be ghosting you yeah i'm nervous that i did something wrong or like said something wrong but like i don't know why he wouldn't say anything to me or like at least tell me why he's not
Starting point is 00:06:26 responding or if he's not interested just like telling me what happened so is there anything on the date that may have happened that you think could be why the only thing i could think of is i called him bro at one point it's just like slang that i use i i didn't mean it to be like you know friend zoning him or anything, but I don't know. I kept saying bro. Reacting to his story kind of being like, whoa, no way. I can't believe they said
Starting point is 00:06:53 that. That's the only thing I can think of that might have been a little bit off-putting and maybe gave him the wrong idea of what I was looking for from the date. Jubal, would that make you feel weird if a girl was calling you bro i actually think i would be cool i don't know it's kind of attractive to me just kind of like laid back like you wouldn't feel friend zoned no i wouldn't but
Starting point is 00:07:14 you're also insanely confident so yeah that that's true too yeah okay okay i don't know yeah maybe that is like i was just trying to think of his, maybe it's like just his reaction to it. Maybe it's just something that he doesn't vibe with. I know people like in the past haven't been offended by that or like thought anything of it. But yeah, that's the only thing I could think of. Maybe that offended him or something.
Starting point is 00:07:40 I just, I want to know. I want to know what he did. All right. We'll see. We'll play a song, come back and then call him and see if he'll tell us why he's ghosting you and maybe get you another date. Okay? Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Okay. We'll give you a follow up next. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric. Well, the election is in the homestretch and I'm exhausted. But turns out the end is near, right in time for a new season of my podcast, Next Question. This podcast is for people like me who need a little perspective and insight. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like Ezra Klein, Van Jones, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also
Starting point is 00:08:21 going to have some fun, even though these days fun and politics seems like an oxymoron. But we'll do that thanks to some of my friends like Samantha Bee, Roy Wood Jr. and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well. I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about? Power to the podcast for the people. So whether you're obsessed with the news or just trying to figure out what's going on, this season of Next Question is for you. Check out our new season of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, y'all, this is Reed from the God's Country Podcast. Starting point is 00:09:39 That's good. Song right out of the book. An old lady came up to me She said, how much for this cream of wheat? An old lady came up to me. She said, how much for this cream of wheat? What if you ask two different people the same set of questions? Even if the questions are the same, our experiences can lead us to drastically different answers.
Starting point is 00:09:58 I'm Minnie Driver, and I set out to explore this idea in my podcast, Minnie Questions. Over the years, we have had some incredible guests. People like Courtney Cox, star of the infinitely beloved sitcom Friends, EGOT winner Viola Davis, and former Prime Minister of the UK, Tony Blair. And now, Mini Questions is returning for another season. We've asked an entirely new set of guests our seven questions, including Jane Lynch, Delaney Rowe, and Cord Jefferson. Each episode is a new person's story with new lessons, new memories, and new connections to show us how we're both similar and unique. There's so much to learn, like how Patagonia innovates with its supply chain. We had to go out to farmers and convince them. It was really damn hard. Or the way Adobe thinks about the first interaction somebody has with Photoshop. I was always so fascinated by how people navigate
Starting point is 00:12:21 and find their way. Ever wanted to know how Nike builds emotion into the Jordan brand? You have to be obsessed with the current state of the human condition. Starting point is 00:12:53 Chrisanne is on the phone, and she's getting ghosted by a guy named Jake. So in a second, we're going to call him and see if he'll tell us why he's ghosting her and maybe get her another date. But first, Chrisanne, why don't you catch everybody up on your situation? Yeah, so I went on a date with a guy guy jake who i've known for five years but we're in relationships recently so um we recently ran into each other and found out we were single now and decided to go on a date uh we had a great date at a mexican restaurant a lot of laughing tacos margarita had a great time.
Starting point is 00:13:30 And then when I followed up with him the next day and wanted to set up a second date, he didn't really, he said he'd let me know. And the only thing I can possibly think of that might have gone wrong is that I said bro a lot. I called him bro and maybe he thought he was friend zoned or was off-put by that. We're going to find out. We'll see. Okay. Are you ready for us to call him?
Starting point is 00:13:44 Yeah. Yeah. All're going to find out. We'll see. Are you ready for us to call him? Yeah. Yeah. Alright, here we go. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Jake, please? This is Jake. Hey, Jake. What's up, man? How are you? My name is Jubal, and I'm calling from a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show. The show's here, Jake.
Starting point is 00:14:07 I'm Nina. Hi, and I'm Victoria. How are you? I'm doing good. You have a good voice for radio. Yeah, this is my radio voice. My other voice is weird. You should hear it.
Starting point is 00:14:18 That's right. Your voice. I'm really clear. Yeah. Have you ever listened to the show before? I'm pretty sure I have. I think I recognize you guys' voice. Well, we do a listened to the show before? I'm pretty sure I have. I think I recognize you guys' voice. Well, we do a segment on the show.
Starting point is 00:14:28 It's called the First Date Follow-Up. That's where if you go on a date with somebody and you end up ghosting them, they can email us to get you on the phone and ask why you're ghosting them. So we got an email about you from somebody. Yeah, I think I have an idea who that would be. Does it involve Chris Haynes christine yes so are you intentionally ghosting her well i mean all cards on the table it's not she's not like bad or anything like that i'm not gonna you know throw shade at her but here's the thing like uh we i
Starting point is 00:14:59 guess she told you we went on a date and stuff and i did have a good time on the date um but chrisanne lives with her ex oh yeah she i don't know if she told you that part she currently lived with her ex i've heard to take her home and she just you know she preferred to uber and then she was like so my ex wouldn't get upset because apparently he's also like jealous even though he's her ex which is also a red flag on top of a red flag. It was just a whole box of worms where I'm not trying to play games
Starting point is 00:15:31 or do anything. I'm legit looking to connect with somebody. I'm looking for something serious. Now there's an X and a whole thing, which you're just dropping on me at the end of a thing and you live with them. I don't know. It feels like it's a game or it just feels, it complicates things like too much.
Starting point is 00:15:48 If you knew that before the date, let's just say you knew ahead of time, would you have still gone? No. Cause you're living with somebody you dated and I like personal space and I like to, uh, like I love to cook.
Starting point is 00:16:00 I love to like, not just go out. Like, you know what I mean? I like, I like hurry come over. I like to come over. But then not only that, you're just going back to, like, I'm not just go out like you know what i mean i like i like hurry come over i like to come over but then not only that you're just going back to like i'm not jealous but it's just like it's another dude and it's your ex and and he's like jealous and yet so like you're
Starting point is 00:16:14 hiding stuff too yeah you know what i mean it's just like there's like a lot of stuff like stacked on top of each other how is she hiding stuff like he didn't want me to drop her off he did she she literally like tried to sneak in, like, right during an Uber or something, just to kind of, I guess, hide the evidence or whatever. I get where Jake is coming from, though, because you don't want to enter into that drama without knowing when the end day of that roomy situation is,
Starting point is 00:16:39 because you don't want to be entering. Okay, I also was in that situation, but the person that I was seeing was living with their ex, and they would still hook up with them from time to time so that became a problem so i understand the red flags and hesitation so maybe maybe we just got to find out like if this is long term like if she moved out tomorrow would you still would you want to see her that was the issue like uh the issue is that she lives with their ex i liked her i just okay but then you know there's just like a, I just, but then, you know, there's just like a lot of other red tape around that.
Starting point is 00:17:08 You know, we have to like sneak a relationship and then have to worry about like another guy who gets jealous and it's just like, I don't want to deal with any of that. I get that. Yeah, that makes sense. Jake, why don't you just talk to her about it? She's on the phone listening and wants to talk to you.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Oh, is she on the phone right now yes she is all right hi did she hear everything yeah yep well yeah that was the issue and it was kind of and i don't think it's like a small issue honestly it um it just was like a lot for me to you know learn really fast and it just it it on my end it's really it just complicates things unnecessarily oh i wish you just said something rather than just like leaving it up in the air um i mean like i get that it's weird living with him but it's totally just out of a need to save money like we're friends we're not together and doing anything anymore and he's fixing my car so there's like i don't plan on staying with him forever it's really just like a right now thing we broke up we both don't have the money to live
Starting point is 00:18:18 on our own so that's that's just kind of where we're at but yeah if it's that big of a deal it's gonna keep us from moving forward like know that it's not forever what does forever mean like how like months years you know i mean maybe a couple months until we can both figure out like where our next living situation is and save up some money. I mean, honestly, if it's that big of a deal, like my parents live, you know, 10 minutes away, I could just like move into their house or something. If that's, you know, going to keep us from, you know, moving forward. I mean, so two things, like one, I really think you're awesome.
Starting point is 00:19:04 I do like you, but I'm not going to like make you do anything with your living situation. I just don't want to deal with an ex-boyfriend and then us not, you know, reaching our full potential because we're like, we're not being ourselves. You know what I mean? We're getting stuff and like, you know, trying to sneak around and stuff or whatever. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. I'm interested in you. I feel like we had a really great time and I feel like to have that be the
Starting point is 00:19:32 reason why we don't move forward would be, it's not necessary. It's like, he's not part of my life in that way anymore. So if that's like the biggest deal, that's something that can be worked around. I mean, a couple of months isn't that bad because now there's like an end date, but I mean, that's kind of, you know what I mean? Like we're not going to be like who we, we're not going to be complete until like this, you know, for me, at least on my end, I'm not going to be truly happy with this until, you know, it reached a point where we can actually just be ourselves independently. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:08 No, I get that. I mean, I'll move to my parents' house, honestly. If that's that big of a deal, I just, I really, really had a great time with you. And I thought we really connected. And I would do that to make sure that we could keep going. Wow. She's willing to move for you. Yeah. Jake. We're parents' house. Would you like to go on another date with, she's willing to move for you, Jake. Yeah, I'm going to her parents' house.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Would you like to go on another date with Chrisanne? We'll pay for it. Yeah, Chrisanne, I'm kind of blown away that you would even do that. It says a lot, and it makes me think that maybe I should fight a little bit more for this. Yeah, I'd love to. Like fight her boyfriend or ex-boyfriend? Okay, easy.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Let's just avoid that. Yeah, definitely. Well, congratulations avoid that entirely. Yeah, definitely. Well, congratulations, Chrisanne. You got another date. Thank you. You do have to live with your parents now, but you did get another date. Hey, man, you're going to save money that way.
Starting point is 00:20:55 My parents are great. It's fine. Yeah, I'll take them over your ex. Solid. Jubil's First Date Follow-Up. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric. Well, the election is in the homestretch right in time for a new season of my podcast. Next question.
