The Jubal Show on demand.
First date follow-up.
Justin is on the phone today for a first date follow-up,
and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Sydney.
All the time.
Happens all the time.
Yep.
Justin, I'm sorry.
Sydney blew you off, too.
Sydney's are always ghosting people.
I don't know if they really are.
I just made that up right now.
Anyway, Justin, thanks for your email.
Before we get into what happened on your date
and why you think you're not getting a call back from Sydney,
how long has it been since you talked to her?
Probably, we're pushing two weeks now,
probably about 10 days now.
And how many times have you tried to reach out to her
in that 10 days?
Well, right after the first date,
I reached out a couple times.
Like, hey, I had a great time.
I'd love to do it again.
And then, hey, just checking to see how you're doing.
So a couple times like that first week, and then a couple times since then, because I
just got the sense that I wasn't getting a response.
So I was like, hey, hi, just wanted to know if you still want to get together again.
But nothing, nothing across the board.
All right, well, tell us about the date.
We decided we were going to go to do a fun little wine tasting.
So there's a vineyard that we both had talked about checking out.
So we'll go do that.
We'll get a flight.
We'll split a flight.
We'll have some of the cheese and charcuterie and just have a
good time. A flight is not
a flight in the air. A flight of alcohol.
Got it.
I was like, talk about a first date.
Everybody in the studio was like, wow, you guys
flew somewhere? I get it now.
Well, everybody except for Alex. She was on board with that.
She met everybody else. I was looking at
Christian Bennett and I was just like,
whoa, this dude balled out on his first date you and i just
our eyes got big at the same time like wow that's amazing they give you four different wines and
then uh you know it's a very social kind of um uh interaction it's it's cool it's it's it
normally at wine tastings people get hammered did oh you guys get hammered is that the reason
you're not getting a call back?
No.
I was trying to be in my good behavior, so I was kind of taking it easy.
But at the same time, the old social lubricant, it makes it a little bit easier to talk to someone and communicate with while you're in the process.
How did things end with Sidney then after your wine tasting?
We seemed to be hitting it off pretty well.
We had a pretty engaging conversation.
I thought we were both having a pretty good time.
As the afternoon kind of went to the evening,
the day progressed, I got a second flight.
We kind of split a second flight.
I think I had most of that one.
But again, i wasn't
out of control sometimes when i have a little bit more than i should i can start to stutter my words
a little bit so i don't know if like she caught on that i was kind of like did it did it sound
like porky pig meets the rock um so i i that's the only thing I can think of.
I don't know if she just caught on that I was starting to trip over myself a little bit.
Maybe she thought I got a little out of control.
But again, it seemed to be very nice and civilized and fun and all that.
The air definitely chilled towards the end of the afternoon.
Okay.
Well, how did the date end?
I thought it ended pretty well.
You know, I said, hey, I'd love to do this again.
She said, yeah, sure, text me.
And that's pretty much it.
We had a hug.
There was no kiss involved.
Okay.
But I was hopeful, so I tried to reach out.
And, yeah, I haven't heard anything since.
Any other point where it was awkward?
No, nothing that I thought of.
Again, I really liked her, so I was trying to be on my best behavior,
and I was trying to be impressive, and I was trying to be nice and sweet and charming
and all the good things that you're supposed to be on a first date.
I was trying real hard. I don't know.
Maybe you were trying too hard. Sometimes that can mess people be on a first date? I was trying real hard. I don't know. Maybe you were trying too hard.
Sometimes that can mess people up on a date.
You know, they're nervous,
so they're like overdoing whatever it is, right?
Yeah, maybe.
It's possible.
That's the only thing I can think of, I guess.
Like you say you have a foreign sports car,
and it's a Honda Accord.
But it's a two-door.
It's a coupe, so it's kind of a sports car.
It works.
I'm trying to do a little too much.
Who knows?
All right, well, play a song, come back, and call her and see if we can figure it out, though,
and get your first date follow-up next, okay?
Thanks.
Right in the middle of your first date follow-up, if you're just joining us, Justin is on the phone.
He's not getting a call back from a woman named Sydney.
They went out wine tasting.
They had some wine.
He says they didn't get too drunk, but now she's not calling him back, and he doesn't know why.
He thinks maybe he was nervous, and so he was kind of stuttering a bit and maybe seemed drunk because he was nervous.
And that's the only reason Justin can think of as to why he's not getting a call back.
It's been 10 days, and he's heard nothing.
They didn't end the date with a kiss.
All she said was text me.
He did.
She didn't text back.
So now we're here.
We're going to call Sydney.
I don't even care where she's at. We're just going to call her and ask her what happened and why she's not calling text back. So now we're here. We're going to call Sydney. I don't even care where she's at.
We're just going to call her and ask her what happened and why she's not calling Justin back.
Make sense? Kinda. Okay. Let's do it. Let's do it. Uh, Justin, anything else you want to say
before we call her and ask her why she's not calling you back? Uh, no, I'm just dying to hear,
uh, what she has to say. All right, cool. Here we go.
Hello?
Where are you?
At my house.
Okay, cool.
We're here.
They're there.
So who am I speaking with?
We're the Jubal Show.
It's a radio show.
My name is Jubal.
Mine's Alex.
And I'm Christian Gray Snow.
And yours is Sydney,
and you're there.
And then our listeners' names,
there's a bunch of them,
so a lot of names,
too many names to list.
They're there, listening.
So that's where we all are right now.
Okay.
So, I guess, why are you calling me here now?
We're calling you because we do a segment on our show called The First Date Follow-Up.
It's where if you go out on a date with someone and then you end up ghosting them,
they can email us to get you on the phone and find out what happened.
And we recently got an email about you from a dude named Justin.
Ah, okay.
And you're not calling Justin back after you guys went wine tasting. We talked to him a little bit. He said he had a great time and really liked you, thought you had a good time
too. And he's wondering if he did something wrong. Um, yeah. So I don't know if like long is the
right word, but I definitely did not have the best time by the end of the date. We went to a winery and did like a wine tasting or whatever,
which for me, I feel like you don't get drunk at a wine tasting, you know?
And especially you don't get drunk on a first date.
We talked to him too, and he said,
because I've known people that have gone on wine tastings.
I've been on a wine tasting and got hammered before.
And anybody else I know that got on a wine tasting,
they always come back and they are so hammered.
So that surprises me.
Yeah.
No, I feel like a wine tasting is more like a classy thing.
You just sip wine and you have good conversation.
And we were on a date.
So I figure, you know, keep your wits about you, right?
So we were having drinks and things were fine,
but he started getting really slurry.
He just started like stuttering almost or like slurring his words.
He just seemed crazy hammered.
And then he just started saying really inappropriate things about my appearance.
Like, what was it?
But I was super curvy, almost too curvy.
I weirded him out because it reminded him of his mom.
And that, ugh. Oh. And that.
Oh.
Oh, hell no.
And I just didn't even know how to respond to that.
Yeah.
You might want to look for things like that your mom has that you like, but not in like a physical way.
That's a bit weird.
Yeah.
Is there anything else or is that pretty much it?
That was pretty much it.
I mean, it was just so off-putting then on top of the fact that he got
really drunk and it just i don't know i didn't like the vibe how did the meeting like end what
was the last thing you said to him um i don't remember i think i just said you know the typical
end of first date things like oh yeah this is great we should do it again sometime like
kind of like handler and friends like just a solid exit from the date.
You don't necessarily mean it.
You just kind of go on your way.
Well,
thank you for telling us.
That makes sense.
That's kind of weird that somebody would do that and compare you to compare
your body to their moms.
That's a little strange.
And I guess he said he didn't get drunk though.
He said he didn't get drunk at all.
Actually,
when we talked to him and I'd like to ask him about that and it works out
that he's actually there on the phone right now. Oh yeah. So we can talk to him and he wants to talk to you too Sydney oh great
hi hey uh um wow uh I was definitely a little nervous and uh when I get nervous, I do tend to stammer, stutter a little bit.
But it was just because I was really, like, getting into what we were talking about,
and I really, really was getting to like you.
It was starting to make me like, holy cow.
She said that you liked her body because it looked like your mom's.
You know, I don't remember exactly what I said,
but there's no way I said you remind me of my mom.
She's a beautiful girl, and all I remember saying was.
Your mom or are you talking about Sydney?
Who are we talking about?
Sydney's a beautiful girl.
All I remember saying was, holy cow, like, I just, you know, her look is so natural, and she looks
just like a real woman, like, like, you know, not, not any of these, I didn't say this, but like,
you know, not like one of these stick figures or Instagram models, right, like that, she looks like
a real woman, you know, with, with real curves, like, Sydney, I apologize, I love the way you
look, I think you're fantastic, but also, not in that way, you remind me of my mother, like the way you talk, the way you think,
the way we were able to kind of just interact.
Like, that's what I meant by that. I didn't mean physically.
I may have said those things too close together in conversation, but I did not mean to put them together.
I apologize. I'm really sorry.
I mean, I guess that makes sense yeah on the day it definitely made it sound like that i had a mom bod or something and it's just yeah it really put me off i didn't like it but
i guess the way you explain it now i get it and if you're drinking i guess sometimes things
don't come out quite the right way but yeah it definitely made it sound like I had like an old lady body.
Oh, no, you definitely do not have an old lady body.
You've got a young woman body.
And geez, that sounded creepy too.
I take that back.
I'm not a weirdo.
I promise.
I'm not a creep.
You should just stop trying to compliment people because it does not come off right.
Yeah.
I should just shut up.
Yeah.
Would you like to go on another date with Justin?
We'll pay for it.
I mean, you are really nice for most of the date and you're kind of cute right now.
So, yeah, I guess I'll give it a second go.
Oh, wow.
I was not expecting that. Me neither it a second go. Oh, wow.
I was not expecting that.
Me neither.
That surprises me.
Congratulations, Justin.
You got another date.
Oh, wow.
Wow.
Oh my God. Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thank you, Sydney.
Thank you.
Thank you for giving me a chance.
Thank you guys for helping me out here.
I appreciate that.
Hey, it's Sydney.
I promise I'm not going to talk about my mom, uh, on the date, uh, ever, ever again, ever
again.
It'll never, ever come up again.
I won't even introduce you.
Okay.
Whatever I have to do, even if I have to disown my mother just to get rid of this here.
Oh, my God.
I will do that.
I will do that.
Yes.
Oh, my God.
