Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Hello, America's sweetheart Johnny Knoxville here. I want to tell you about my new true crime podcast, Crimeless, Hillbilly Heist, from Smartless Media, campside media, and big money players. It's a wild tale about a gang of high-functioning nitwits who somehow pulled off America's third largest cash heist. Kind of like Robin Hood, except for the part where he's still,
Starting point is 00:00:30 from rich and gifts to the poor. I'm not that generous. It's a damn near inspiring true story for anyone out there who's ever shot for the moon then just totally muffed up the landing. They stole $17 million that had not bought a ticket
Starting point is 00:00:46 to help him escape. So we're saying like, oh God, what do we do? What do we do? That was dumb. People do not follow my example. Listen to Crimless, Hillbilly Heist on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Two rich young Americans move to the Costa Rican jungle to start over,
Starting point is 00:01:09 but one of them will end up dead and the other tried for murder three times. It starts with a dream, a nature reserve and a spectacular new home. But little by little, they lose it. They actually lose it. They sort of went nuts. Until one night, everything spins out of control. Listen to Hell in Heaven on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Samihante, it's Anna Ortiz. And I'm Mark and Delicado.
Starting point is 00:01:44 You might know us as Hilda and Justin from Ugly Betty. Welcome to our new podcast, Viva Betty! We're re-watching the series from start to finish. And talking to iconic guests like Betty herself, America, for us. There was this moment when the glasses went on, and it was like, this is our Betty. Listen to Viva Betty on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm I'm Ida Gama Jujan, and this week on our podcast, Hungry for History, we talk oysters, plus the Mianbe Chief stops by. If you're not an oyster lover, don't even talk to me.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Ancient Athenians used to scratch names onto oyster shells to vote politicians into exile. So our word ostracize is related to the word oyster. No way. Bring back the OsterCon. Listen to Hungry for History on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First day to follow up. Powered by the advocates injury attorneys, online at advocateslaw.com. David is on the phone today for a first day follow up.
Starting point is 00:02:54 He's getting ghosted by Jade and has no idea why. So we're going to see if we can help him out. We'll call her in just a few and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him. But first, David, how long has it been since you heard from Jade? Four, almost going on five days now, like total silence. That's like that borderline part. Like, am I being ghosted or what? You busy?
Starting point is 00:03:14 How many times have you tried to reach out to her in that time? You know, about once a day. I don't want to seem like a, you know, getting that stalker area. you know, so I wasn't trying to be too intense, but, you know, yeah, I'd say about once a day. So it's been, you know, three or four times, I guess. And now I would say that's definitely getting ghosted then if she hasn't just did anything. I've even gotten the thumbs up on the like, I mean. It seems like almost like wrong number because I'm not even getting like the red thing or anything.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Yeah, yeah. Oh, wow. Locked? Not to, you know, I'm free. That's another little of gross thing. I'm like, I'm sorry. Well, tell us about your date. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:54 So, you know, it was almost storybook, the way that we kind of met. There was, you know, one of those spirit Halloween stores that, you know, little pop-up stores that popped up. And we were both kind of shopping in the same aisle. And an old song, Sweet Caroline, came on. And, you know, they always have the weirdest. I don't know if you guys ever been in one of the Spirit Hall, besides the stores themselves being weird and weird locations, they always have just the most bizarre music happening through the whole place. like stuff you would not, it's not Halloween music.
Starting point is 00:04:25 It's like this weird stuff. And Sweet Caller Caroline was one of them. That's where we kind of made eye contact, like, look at each other, like, what is this song? And then, you know, how Sweet Caroline got that, done, done, da, and we both kind of, almost in Unis then kind of did the same thing. And then it kind of got to be a joke. And we were, then we started talking about how weird it was there, they were playing
Starting point is 00:04:46 the song. And then we just started talking for a while. And, you know, I asked her, you know, I started. kind of walking with her as she was shopping for other stuff and you know kind of made sure it wasn't like you know weird or I was overstepping my bounds everything was a vibe and we got to the register area and I you know I said hey you know really enjoyed your company and uh you know I thought I'd ask her out you know she told me if I would take pictures of my Halloween set up at home once I got it all set up so that's what I did I got out you know a couple hours later got
Starting point is 00:05:22 Got my whole Halloween vibe all decked out in front of my, in front of my house, took a few photos, sent them over, and, you know, she got back to me and sent me some photos of what she'd been doing, you know, with the Halloween stuff. And then we had our date, you know, and it was all good. So she asked me, she said she had a bar that she liked to go to, and if I would mind going to this bar, you know, that she went to it, and it wasn't too far from where I was at. we went to the bar and, um, you know, hung out, got together with her and, and, and, and this environment in the non-fluorescent light version of spirit of Halloween, seeing her, you know, at nighttime at this bar. I mean, she was even, I mean, I mean, she's just gorgeous. Like, you know, I mean, really, really just perfect, my ideal person for me. And, um, you know, we were really enjoying ourselves. There was even a jukebox there, you know, like, which is funny because
Starting point is 00:06:20 that's how we met was because it was the music thing. and so I went over there, you know, started playing some tunes on the jute box and the whole night was perfect and I figured that, you know, this was like perfect first date and then like, as I told you at the beginning when I first reached out to you all,
Starting point is 00:06:39 just total silence since then, you know? So did you guys kiss or anything at the end or was there any flirtation? Like, did you guys plan on going on another date after that? I mean, I got the impression. I mean, you know, Walker, to her door, obviously, and everything was, you know, always good. And, you know, she kissed me on the cheek. And she told me she, you know, texted me some more Halloween photos when she
Starting point is 00:07:03 gets them up and we set up another date. And, I mean, it seemed like everything was just about as picture perfect as it could be between, you know, how we met at the store to going out to the bar. I mean, it's like storybook. And that's why I'm like just pretty much shell shock that I haven't heard literally from, I don't know if there was another guy. that I never maybe made to know about you know that will be that's the only thing I'm kind of thinking is like maybe there was another dude and you know either I'm a rebound guy or I don't know I mean just the whole it's just the whole thing doesn't make sense to me we'll try to figure it off for you then man we'll play a song come back and then call her see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you and then
Starting point is 00:07:40 maybe get you another date if you still want one okay sounds great thanks all right we'll play a song come back and get your first day follow up next hey guys it's stepney beatrice and melissa fumaro and this is more better we are jumping right in and ready to hear from you. Your thoughts, your questions, your feelings about socks with sandals, and we're ready to share some possibly questionable advice and hot takes.
Starting point is 00:08:01 God, that sucks so hard, though. I'm so sorry. Can you out petty them? Can you match their pettiness for funsies? Yeah. We had so much fun last season, laughing, crying, talking to some new and old friends. Remember when we were in that scene
Starting point is 00:08:16 where you guys were just supposed to hug and I was standing. Oh, yeah. And I was like, can I also? I'm like, this f*** has no friends. And this time around, we are, say it, Melissa. Should I? Say it.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Getting a little more better. Oh, finally. It's all the dressing room talks you've loved in season one. All the things. Because aren't we all trying to get a little more better? Listen to more better on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to Decoding Women's Health. I'm Dr. Elizabeth Pointer, chair of Women's Health and Women's Health.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Gynecology at the Adriah Health Institute in New York City. On this show, I'll be talking to top researchers and top clinicians asking them your burning questions and bringing that information about women's health and midlife directly to you. A hundred percent of women go through menopause. It can be such a struggle for our quality of life, but even if it's natural, why should we suffer through it? The types of symptoms that people talk about is forgetting everything. I never used to forget things. They're concerned that, one, they have dementia, and the other one is, do I have ADHD? There is unprecedented promise with regard to cannabis and cannabinoids, to sleep better, to have less pain, to have better mood, and also to have better day-to-day life.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Listen to Decoding Women's Health with Dr. Elizabeth Pointer on the I-HeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you're listening now. I'm I Belongoria, and I'm Maitego-Mish-Gun. podcast, hungry for history, we mix two of our favorite things. Food and history. Ancient Athenians used to scratch names onto oyster shells, and they called these Ostercon to vote politicians into exile. So our word ostracize is related to the word oyster. No way. Bring back the ostracan. And because we've got a very mikasa esu-sucasa kind of vibe on our show, friends always stopped by. Pretty much every entry into this side of the planet was through the Gulf of Mexico.
Starting point is 00:10:25 No, the America. No, the America. The Gulf of Mexico, continue to be so forever and ever, it blows me away how progressive Mexico was in this moment. They had land reform, they had labor rights, they had education rights. Mustard seeds were so valuable to the ancient Egyptians that they used to place them in their tombs for the afterlife. Listen to, Hungry for History. Listen to, Hungry for History as part of the My Fultura Podcast Network, available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Right in the middle of today's first date, follow up. If you're just joining us, David is on the phone, and he's getting ghosted by Jade, and he has no idea why so. We're about to call her and ask her why she's ghosting him and see if he still wants another date when he finds out why.
Starting point is 00:11:10 But first, David, why don't you refresh everybody's memory about your date with Jade? We mad. It was like storybook meeting. We met mad at the spirit of Halloween. store, connected on a music, you know, like there was a music thing. We, you know, I ended up going on a date, hanging out. The end of the date went great. And then just total silence after that, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:30 Well, you ready to call her? I guess, yeah. All right, here we go, man. How? Hi, man, speak to Jade, please. Yeah, Jade, speak to. Jade. How are you?
Starting point is 00:11:48 My name is Jubal and I host a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show. Hi, Jade. There's more people here, too. I'm Nina also on the show. Hi, and I'm Victoria. Do you ever listen to the show? No.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Okay. That's all right. So we're calling you today, though, because we do a segment on the show. It's called the first date follow-up. That's where if you go out on a date with somebody and you end up ghosting them, that person can email us to get you on the phone and ask why they're being ghosted. So we got an email about you from a guy named David. Um, okay.
Starting point is 00:12:21 You said that you guys met at a Halloween store. Yeah. Oh, boy, that one sucked. But not in a bad way. Do you mind telling us why you're ghosting him? He really wants to know. He's a really sweet guy and really cute. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:38 And, I mean, he's really nice, but I'm a musician. Okay. And I work for a label. I'm always in music and keeping as current as possible. And as much as he's so sweet, all he likes is grandma music, I can't do it, I can't do it. He called, you know, he can't. Are you like grandma music, he said? Grandma music, like, so he picked me up on the, for the date, right?
Starting point is 00:13:03 And he was blasting, like it was his favorite jam, Rhinestone Cowboy. And I'm like, okay, maybe this is just where his radio landed. That's cool? I mean, I'm like oldies sometimes. But this is not a summertime. We went to the dive bar. It was cool. It was a dive bar I like.
Starting point is 00:13:24 And there's a jukebox. We're playing different songs. My songs ranged everywhere. His songs were like, John Denver. Rain drops keep falling on your head. And like there was Dolly Parton and Bert Bacharach. Like it was just very specific and a very small range of things he listened to.
Starting point is 00:13:43 I can't do that. That's just too much. As sweet as he is. no so it's the music you don't think you could like teach him about new music also current music was always is all inspired by those songs and stuff but yeah but i don't i don't think he's really outside of that world i don't know if he's even open to such it's like i need somebody who's ready to be open to the world and just living in one time period music wise kind of lets me know that that's how you live elsewise that's interesting you want to be in a small little place and never move and never hear and never look i can't do it how can't even just text them that i thought the silence would help i'm not that at competition i don't like it and i was like maybe if i just kind of drift away he'd kind of get the hint and just move on with his world i mean you can tell him that when you talk to him and let him know that you know he was very sweet but i
Starting point is 00:14:42 don't think it's going to work out okay well you kind of already told him because he's been on the phone this whole time, and he wants to talk to you. Oh. Hey, Jade. What's up? Hi, David. This is incredibly uncomfortable. Well, what's really uncomfortable is hearing what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:15:04 I mean, that night, when we were at the bar, listening to all the songs you're talking about, raindrops and all that, you were singing and laughing and you seem to know the words more than I did that night. for all those songs. So I'm really confused about this. I know music. I'm a musician. I know these songs.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I understand. But that seems to be your only interest. Anything outside of that you complained about. Like you just weren't open to other things. And wait, wait. I'm sorry. Let's back this truck up. You thought by bringing me on here to make me feel like some sort of horrible person.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Like, I'm some sort of snob, but this is the way to get us together? Look, I just really, really, really liked you a lot, and it was bizarre to me. And I thought, you know, between the store and the bar, we had the perfect few days together. And I was just really confused why you just ghosted me all together. And I thought maybe you guys, you coming on here and explaining it and not, you know, there might be a way where we could kind of take it next level, you know? So publicly embarrassing me was your plan to get me back? I don't think you should feel embarrassed. You didn't, I mean, you're telling the truth.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Yeah, I mean, what are you talking about you being embarrassed? You're the one that's sitting there calling me listening to grandma music here on the air in front of everybody. Listen, none of this makes it better. You just made me realize that my choice was right and I should not feel bad about making the choice I made. You push me in the corner and are making me look the fool. Yeah, and by the way, this is not grandma music. This is classic music. There's a reason why people are still listening to this music 40, 50 years later now.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Okay, you should know that being a musician. No one's listening to What's new Pussy Cat? Oh, oh, oh, oh. Okay. And it's not like you were listening to Motown as well. You weren't. It was very narrow. There was like a few years that you lived in
Starting point is 00:17:18 And I'm not to speak music theory to you I'm done I'm done yet Go listen to the Sherelle Would you like to go out with David again Another date? We'll pay for it Jade Oh me? Yeah
Starting point is 00:17:31 Oh I thought you were asking him Because I know you're not talking about it No I'm good Thank you Jubel's first date follow up Johnny Knoxville here Check out Crimeless Hillbilly Heist
Starting point is 00:17:45 My New True Crime crime podcast from smartless media, campside media, and big money players. It's the true story of the almost perfect crime and the Nimrods who almost pulled it off. It was kind of like the perfect storm in a sewer. That was dumb.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Do not follow my example. Listen to Crimless, Hillbilly Heist on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Two rich young Americans moved to the Costa Rican jungle to start over, but one of them will end up dead and the other tried for murder three times. When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denials easier. Complex problem solving takes effort.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Listen to the psychology podcast on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm I Belongoria. And I'm Maite Gomes Gron.
