Starting point is 00:01:46 First date follow-up. A guy named Cal is on the phone for a first date follow-up today. Cal. And he said the end of his date ended with a magical kiss in the parking lot. Was it magical because Cal is actually the name of Superman? Did you know that? That's a real
Starting point is 00:02:01 name. Cal L. Yeah, so short, but I guess. Right. No, this is C-A-L. Nothing to do with Superman. Like California. Yeah. Oh, okay. Nothing to do with Superman. Did you know that? That's real, real name. Cal L. Yeah, so short, but I guess. Right, no, this is C-A-L. Nothing to do with Superman. California. Oh,
Starting point is 00:02:08 okay. Nothing to do with Superman. Nevermind. Okay. But he apparently shared a, his email said it was a magical moonlit kiss in the parking lot. Well, it doesn't always go down like that.
Starting point is 00:02:21 With the girl that's not calling him back. Her name is Layla. And I guess we'll ask Cal about it. Cal, how do you have a magical moonlit kiss in a parking lot with a woman and then she just ghosts you? I mean, that's, I guess, why I'm talking to you guys. I don't know. I had a great, great date. And I'm just not hearing from her anymore.
Starting point is 00:02:41 And I just can't figure it out. Well, before we get into everything and find out about the date, how'd you meet her? Oh, do you know the classic way now these days is online? You know, it's the only way to do it. But, you know, one of the apps, and, you know, we chatted for a while, and then, you know, turned into texting, and then turned into a date, and then, you know, I thought everything went great. I've never done this or anything like this before.
Starting point is 00:03:09 It's like, I thought this was like, I've never done anything like what before? Chase to, you know, follow up with a woman. Oh, like email the radio show to try to get ahold of someone who's not calling you back. Okay. I thought you'd never been on a date before. No, no.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Plenty of those, but what I'm saying is, like, she was quality. Like, she's funny. She's smart. She's very attractive. Like, um... And I thought I brought my A game, you know?
Starting point is 00:03:35 Well, what did you guys end up doing for your date? Um, we went to dinner. Um, you know, I think that's just, like, the best way to share a meal together. You can chat, you know, nothing too fancy, but, like, you know, upscale. So it was just nice the best way to share a meal together. You can chat. Nothing too fancy, but upscale. It was just
Starting point is 00:03:47 nice, but we got to know each other. She was funny. She laughed at my jokes. What type of food was it? Seafood. Seafood? That's a bold move on the first date. Yeah, it is. Smelly breath. I mean, I know that all too well because one time I went on a date
Starting point is 00:04:03 and because everybody loves sushi, he took me to sushi, which I hate. You hate because one time I went on a date and because everybody loves sushi, he took me to sushi, which I hate. Oh, you hate sushi? And I didn't want to tell him because I felt bad, so I just choked it down. Like I'm a kid with like a mouthful of nasty food trying to wash it down with water. At least you were a trooper. Yeah. Do you think that maybe your date was pretending to like seafood the whole time?
Starting point is 00:04:24 No, no, no, no. We dug it. I mean mean we had a good time and and i mean the food was great i mean we were like sharing each other like oh you want to try something online you want to try something online so you will uh mention something about a moonlight kiss so can you describe that i mean it sounds like your day went pretty well based on your email and yes please describe for us the kiss, everything about it. Dinner ran long.
Starting point is 00:04:49 You know, we got up, it was like, where'd the time go? I walked through your car and you know, we were just, we're standing there and the moon was just like reflecting right off of her face and it was just that beautiful soft light and I just went in for a kiss and it was just instant butterflies. I haven't felt that in a long time. So the kiss was just highlight of the night.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Okay. Well, it sounds like she might not have been, I don't want to bum you out. It sounds like she might not have felt the same butterflies because now she's not calling you back. How long has it been since you guys have talked? Well, we did text after and it was like, we agreed it was like fun and we didn't want to do it again. And we texted here and there and it just kind of like faded out. Her responses just became thinner and thinner. And then now it's been about a week. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Did you actually make plans to do anything else? Yeah, yeah. I texted her like three times the week after asking her out for different things. And, you know, it was just always never concrete. You know, she never made it concrete. And I just kept going back. And I don't know what's going on. All right.
Starting point is 00:05:52 And there's nothing you can think of that was weird, either in your text after or on the date? I'm telling you, I can't figure it out. Okay, cool. We'll play a song, come back, and then call her and see if we can figure it out for you in your first day follow-up, right? Yeah, thank you. I was on the phone right now for your first date follow-up, right? Yeah, thank you.
Starting point is 00:06:05 I was on the phone right now for a first date follow-up. He went out with a girl named Layla. They met online, went out for dinner. He thought everything was amazing. They even ended with what he calls a beautiful moonlight kiss. And the way he described it was pretty amazing. He said he got butterflies as soon as they started making out. And he was really into her.
Starting point is 00:06:22 They texted for a little while after their date. And then she just sort of ghosted him. And he doesn't know why. We're about to see if we really into her. They texted for a little while after their date and then she just sort of ghosted him and he doesn't know why. We're about to see if we can call her, get her on the phone and figure it out for him. All right, Cal, you ready? I am ready. Okay, one sec.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Hello? Hey, I was looking for Layla. This is she. Layla, how are you? This is The Jubal Show. My name's Jubal. Mine's Alex. My name's Evan.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Hi. Do you know what The Jubal Show is? Yeah. So it's a radio show. I just want to make sure you're clear there's not another Jubal Show out there that you might be thinking of. No, I know the radio show. That's want to make sure you're clear. There's not another Jubal show out there that you might be thinking of. No, I know the radio show.
Starting point is 00:07:09 That's why I'm like, why are you calling? Good question. Well, we're calling you because we do a segment on the show called the First Date Follow-Up. I'm not sure if you heard what that is. I heard that before. But what that is, is if you go out on a date with someone and then end up not calling them back, they can email us to get you on the phone and find out why. And you recently ghosted somebody and then they emailed us.
Starting point is 00:07:28 And then we took their email and then we talked to them about your date and then we called you to ask you why you ghosted them. I've heard your show before but I've never been a part of it. Do you know who we're talking about? I think it's Cal.
Starting point is 00:07:45 Yes, it's Cal. Yes, it's Cal. Yes. Congratulations. You got it right. It's Cal. Why aren't you talking to Cal anymore? Well, Cal was cool. We had a really good time.
Starting point is 00:07:57 But I just didn't really feel like he was a gentleman after the end. Like, we actually kissed goodnight. He was very respectful. He told us, he said that he really was into you. And he described your first kiss. Like I heard music, like romantic music as he was describing your first kiss. For him it was magical. It's like you guys were in the middle of New York City Times Square.
Starting point is 00:08:22 And everything was just like circling around you guys. And nothing else mattered. Right, and then it started raining on just the two of you. I don't remember all of that. Was it not that special for you? No, it was actually very good. We had chemistry, we had a great conversation,
Starting point is 00:08:38 great food, but the next couple of days he just kind of texted me a couple of times. And I don't know, I was really kind of raised that the man calls you, you know, like he calls you and asks you out again. And he just never did. And it just kind of rubbed me wrong. I was like, I don't know if I want somebody who just hides behind text messages. Okay. He said he did ask you out.
Starting point is 00:09:03 He did through text, but he never called me and he never asked me personally, do you want to go out with me again? And that's just kind of something I've been raised with and expecting and it just didn't happen. And I, I don't know. I just, I kind of felt like maybe it wasn't the right fit. I can't tell. Are you joking or? No, I'm very serious. Like I don't texting, I think is? No, I'm very serious. Texting, I think, is a weak way of showing your emotion. So you don't want to see him again because this is weird to me because nobody picks up the phone and calls anybody anymore. If someone calls me, I'm like, oh, what's wrong?
Starting point is 00:09:41 Who died? I don't know. That's kind of why I think it's more special. He took the time to call me, even though it's not the norm, it's not the regular. And it was almost like, if he calls you, then he's actually serious. It's not a booty call. It's not just a, let's chat when I have time. No, he took the time out for me to call me. And I just, when he didn't do that, it just kind of made the magic kind of fizzle out a little bit. Alex, does that make sense to you as a female?
Starting point is 00:10:11 No, I mean, not really. Like, to me, I wouldn't care. And I also don't like to talk on the phone. So really, you've never like, felt that a phone call is way more personal and special. And they single you out to talk to you for an extended period of time instead of just, oh, I'm in the bathroom and I'm texting you. Like, I don't want your bathroom text. Yeah, I just don't really care. I feel like most people don't, but hey, you know, that's your thing. So that's why you're not calling him back because he didn't actually pick up the phone and call you. Yeah, I didn't feel like he cared enough to put that time for me.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Okay. All right. Well, guess what? He did put the time in to be on the phone right now to have a conversation with you. He's been listening this whole time and would like to talk to you, like on the phone, not via text. Oh, what? He's here? Like on the phone?
Starting point is 00:11:05 Hi. Oh, hey? He's here? Like on the phone? Hi. Oh, hey. Hey. Really? Like, that's the reason you didn't, you know, text me back? That's why you ghosted me? Because I didn't call you? Yeah. Yeah. I expect a gentleman to, I don't know, call me and take time out of his day to see how I'm doing. I thought that's what I was doing. It just seems very disrespectful. I don't see how disrespectful is saying, hey, would you like to do these three things, which I looked into and try to make plans with you immediately.
Starting point is 00:11:41 I don't see that as disrespectful. Then if you took the time to look for all these plans, why couldn't you have just called me like we did forever and ever before texting became the norm? And you could have asked me personally, voice to voice, you know, like, I just feel like it was very lazy. Well, I mean, when we met on the app, I asked you out when we were messaging. So, like, I don't understand how this is different. Because that was in the app. We had moved on from the app. We'd actually had a date. You kissed me.
Starting point is 00:12:15 It was wonderful. And I thought, wow, maybe this guy will call me and show me that I matter and that I'm not just another girl he texts. Because, listen, I know how it is. I have friends who have been on dates and they went to the bathroom and their date was texting somebody else. It's a way to hide behind your true feelings or emotions or intentions. And I expect my intentions and your intentions to be clear. Okay. Well, that's a lot.
Starting point is 00:12:46 I mean, that sounds like you're pretty serious about that. Would you like to go on another date with Cal? We will pay for it. He's on the phone right now. He can ask you in person. I mean, I know this probably is an awkward start, but we did have a good date. And obviously, you thought I was special enough to email a place so i guess you did do the work and i was standing corrected on that um i i would like to go out with you again
Starting point is 00:13:11 cal if you are willing to go out with me honestly the last five minutes have been such a turnoff of me disrespecting you and all that stuff so i am am no longer interested. And that's fine. Now you know how I felt. But I feel like you're a person that I'll never, ever be able to make happy. Good luck to you. Well, you couldn't even make me happy after the first date. So I guess you're right. That is apparent.
Starting point is 00:13:36 And I'm not going to apologize for having high standards because another guy thinks I'm hard to please. Sorry. Maybe you guys are lazy. Thank you for your honesty. Appreciate it. And hopefully you'll find a dude that will be able to date you right.
Starting point is 00:13:51 I don't think she will. And Cal, thank you for your email. Thank you, I hope so too. Sorry you don't get another date, man, but get back out there. Oh no, you guys saved me a lot of time and a lot of money. Jubal's First Date Follow-Up.
