First date follow up powered by the advocates injury attorneys online at advocateslaw.com. James is on the phone today for a first date follow up and he's getting ghosted by Missy. So in a few minutes, we'll call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him
Starting point is 00:02:46 and maybe get him a second date but first James how long has it been since you heard from Missy? Oh man it's been like a little bit of time I'd probably say it's like a week, week and a half. Okay. Definitely feels like it's a little feels like it's a little too long to reach out so I'm trying to figure out what the right move is, but I just can't figure out why it happened.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Did you try it all after your date? I mean, like I tried to reach out a bit, but it didn't seem like I eat after I like a texture after the date to be like, Hey, it was a great time. Really appreciate you rolling with the punches and everything, but I just haven't heard anything Hmm. Okay. Well, why don't you tell us about the date? Yeah, so I mean like I I I went strong and wrong I was like really excited about this little craft beer tasting that I wanted to check out which would have been super clutch If she drank that I wanted to check out, which would have been super clutch if she drank.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Oh, no. Yeah, I like straight out the gate. Marty battened at like a zero. I felt terrible. She was cool about it. But I could tell it wasn't like her thing because it was pretty much just beer and like high news. And I panicked and we pivoted and ended up walking to this ice cream shop that was pretty close by down the block.
Starting point is 00:04:09 And then we, you know, went on a walk and talk. Okay, that's great. Yeah, I thought it was cute and she seemed like, you know, she was pretty on board with it. We were talking about our childhoods, all the weird hobbies and stuff you have as kids. I texted her after say it was a good time and you know, nothing went on after that. Did you feel like she had a good time? Like were you feeling like it was reciprocated
Starting point is 00:04:31 while you were on your walk-in job? Yeah, I mean the energy felt like light. We were cracking jokes with each other. She's smiling, you know, it wasn't like the sun was still out so it didn't feel like it was creepy or anything. I don't know. It just felt like I started so strong and so wrong that it was so hard to turn away from.
Starting point is 00:04:53 But she was like such a good sport that I was like, you know, I assumed she wanted to try again. Oh yeah, because she could have excused herself right after the tasting and been like, you know, we don't have anything in common. I'm just going to go ahead and bounce. But she gave you a chance. Well, why do you think she's ghosting you? Um, I like I really feel like it's the beer thing. I really messed up straight out the gate or like maybe we have enough in common.
Starting point is 00:05:18 I just keep thinking about it. And it's just like, you know, we had ice cream for a walk. We talked and it was over. just like, you know, we had ice cream, we went for a walk, we talked and then it was over. She got this like phone call to leave, but it didn't feel real, I guess. Oh, like she had a friend like... Yeah. So James, this sounds like you're totally getting ghosted. What are you trying to like, and maybe it is because of the drink thing, are you hoping to recover? Like what's the
Starting point is 00:05:42 plan here? The thing I just can't run my head around is like we had such a good time and like when we were joking around, like she did like a full body laugh. It wasn't like, oh, I'm just hearing you because you made a stupid
Starting point is 00:05:54 poem laugh. It was like a, you know, like an ugly laugh. It was really endearing. It was definitely like a rocky start. It seemed like we had fun, like we were really vibing and laughing together and then like Looked at her phone and then bye
Starting point is 00:06:08 Okay, maybe the person that called was like an ex or something. Oh Sure, yeah Like really terrible news and and like it's just a date so she doesn't owe me an explanation if some serious thing went down But like I guess I kind of want one, you know, okay Well, we'll see if we can figure it out for you a play a song Come back and then call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you maybe get you a second date. Okay? Sweet. Thank you guys so much. All right, we'll get your first a follow-up next Just like great shoes great books take you places through unforgettable love stories and into conversations with characters
Starting point is 00:06:44 You'll never forget. I think any good romance, it gives me this feeling of like butterflies. I'm Danielle Robay, and this is Bookmarked by Reese's Book Club, the new podcast from Hello Sunshine and iHeart Podcasts. Every week I sit down with your favorite book lovers, authors, celebrities, book talkers, and more to explore the stories that shape us, on the page and off. I've been reading every Reese's Book Club pick, deep-diving book talk theories, and
Starting point is 00:07:11 obsessing over book-to-screen casts for years. And now, I get to talk to the people making the magic. So if you've ever fallen in love with a fictional character, or cried at the last chapter, or passed a book to a friend saying, you have to read this. This podcast is for you. Listen to Bookmarked by Reese's Book Club on the iHeartRadio app. Apple podcasts are wherever you get your podcasts. This week on Dear Chelsea with me, Chelsea Handler,
Starting point is 00:07:40 Sophia Bush is here. Tell me how that feels to be a hot, considered a hot lesbian. Quite an honor. You know what's funny is you do this weird math, like if you're a woman dating men, nobody wants to talk to you about your sexuality. They just want to either say like you're a prude or a slut, you know? If you date too much, they criticize you. If you don't date, you must be frigid, whatever.
Starting point is 00:08:01 And then the thing that gets added when you're actually more fluid with your sexuality is the swing goes to, you better identify exactly who you are so we can figure out what name to call you. And it's like, okay. And I sort of looked around and was like, has nobody been paying attention to all the hot girls I've been kissing on camera?
Starting point is 00:08:21 Maybe not in front of you off camera, but hi. I've always been here. Listen to Dear Chelsea on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I think Democrats have, for a very long time, allowed Republicans to play them. So essentially, Republicans came up with a narrative and Democrats decided to play into that.
Starting point is 00:08:44 And that only hurt the Democrats. I'm Kitty Couric. Jasmine Crockett, Democratic representative of Texas, is not known for holding back. And our recent chat on Next Question is no exception. But when you hear how she got to where she is, her intensity makes perfect sense. her intensity makes perfect sense. It's just hard to imagine a world where you don't have enough people that care to do right by people. And so that same passion that carried me through as a public defender, that led me to want to change laws and thinking about the harm that will happen not just to my constituents, but just generally, like, I carry that weight with me
Starting point is 00:09:28 because you've seen it up close, yeah. Listen to Next Question with me, Katie Couric, on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You know who it is, Brandon Kyle Goodman. But this Pride Month, call me Messy Mother. On my podcast, Tell Me Something Messy, I'm diving into all the juicy stories and sizzling hot tea that'll make you want to live your life liberated and free.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Nothing is off the table for our messy geekies, be it cringy dates, best sex practices, family drama or cultivating self-love. Plus, I'll be joined by star-studded guests like T.S. Madison. How can we not judge ourselves? You just gotta tell yourself, like, girl, how old are you, bitch? And I love me a lot because I'm-
Starting point is 00:10:15 Oh, you do? Bitch, I love these motherfucking back rolls. What are these little back rolls? Back rolls? And dragging messy stories out of guests like the one and only Katya. I also got into the habit of wearing butt plugs to the gym. Tell me about this.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Well, and I also work out with butt plugs in quite a bit because like... Tell me everything. Well, it's just, first, it feels good. Yes. And then second, it's like my little secret. TMI, please, tell me more. Every week we'll create a compassionate space to share the fullness of who we are. If you're just joining us for today's first day follow-up James is on the phone and he's getting ghosted by Missy So we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him a second date
Starting point is 00:11:14 But first James, why don't you recap your date for us real quick? For sure. I went to take her to like a microbrewery tasting. She does drink We roll with the punches, go get some ice cream, go on a walk, have some really good talks, really good laughs. I think it's like going somewhere and then she like checks her phone. Um, it's really polite, but dips and it's been like a week and change. Okay. Are you ready for us to call her? Yeah, man. It's the caller. Yeah, man. It's the it's the not knowing the stores. All right. Here we go. Hello.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Hi, may I speak to Missy please? Yeah, this is Missy. Hey, Missy, how are you? This is the Jubal show. It's a radio show. Hi, Missy. I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria.
Starting point is 00:11:55 And my name is Jubal. Hi, Missy. I'm Nina. Hi, Missy. Hi, Missy. I'm Victoria. Hi, Missy. Hi, Missy.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Hi, Missy. Hi, Missy. Hi, Missy. Hi, Missy. Hi, Missy. Hi, may I speak to Missy please? Yeah, this is Missy. Hey Missy, how are you? This is the Jubal show. It's a radio show. Hi Missy, I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria. And my name is Jubal. What's up? Oh, hi. What's going on? Not much. Have you ever listened to the show before?
Starting point is 00:12:17 Yeah, I have. Why? Why are you calling? Well, Missy, because we do a segment called the First Aid Follow-Up. That's where if he ghosts somebody, they can email us to call you and get you on the phone and ask why you're ghosting them. Oh my god. Is this about James? Yes. Oh, okay. Yeah, it is about James. So you are ghosting James.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Yeah, okay. You mind telling us why? Yeah, it sounds bad. Like I'm not a ghost or okay. But he was sweet and we did have a good time. Like he, he tried. I mean the beginning of the day was kind of odd. Like, I don't know, I don't know why he took me to drink, but whatever. We went past that. We took a walk, but the thing is he, he took me on a walk through a junkyard
Starting point is 00:13:05 Well, it was just a bunch of broken rusty parts broken down cars loose gravel like it wasn't it wasn't what I was looking for Exactly, but the thing is I watched so much true crime and I've heard that story a thousand times Girls get lured into sketchy places by the nice guy Like I'm not gonna be part of the next podcast episode, okay? Girl, you were part of the episode. You went to the junkyard. I know you went that far. What was the plan if you were in the middle of one?
Starting point is 00:13:35 Well, look, I just made up a reason to leave. Like I didn't want to risk it because he just seemed too into the junkyard and being there. Yeah, he didn't tell us that he took you to a junkyard. Look, I don't know. It just, it wasn't my thing. Like I had bad signs. And I just wanted to get out of there fast. When you say he was into it, like what, what was he doing? Was he like, Oh, that's a good place to hide a body. He was really like taking me deep in there. We were getting into darker areas and
Starting point is 00:14:07 just felt so odd. Like at any point I could be trapped. Yeah. That's scary. And weird. It was weird. Yeah. All right. Well, thank you for telling us. I can see how that would be a little off-putting to be taken to a junkyard. Yes. a little bit. For no reason? I never thought, I never thought that a guy would take me there. Missy, James is on the phone and wants to talk to you. Hey Missy. Oh. Oh.
Starting point is 00:14:34 James, you got some swain into you. No, I feel, I'm so embarrassed. That's, you thought I was like luring you to a junkyard to murder you? You put it like okay I mean now that you say it out loud. It does sound extreme, but you know it was sketchy James I Mean that's that's fair. I guess there's some random dude was ended up wandering me into a junkyard I'd be a little freaked out, but like But like, I wasn't trying to be creepy. I like, my family didn't have a lot growing up, so like, free time, my brother and I used to like,
Starting point is 00:15:11 go to the junkyard and like, root around and either try to find stuff that we could fix up or find cool stuff that people threw away, you know? So like, we were always making the best out of the worst situation and I guess on like, some weird subconscious level, it's what I was still doing but you know we were eating ice cream. I wasn't intending to go to the junkyard it was just like right where we were so it seemed
Starting point is 00:15:33 like a trip down memory lane. It was something I feel like I wanted to share. I don't know. Yeah James but you could have told me that like I was on edge the whole time while I was there. I mean you would have said anything about your family you know about how important it You could have told me that. Like I was on edge the whole time while I was there. I mean, you would have said anything about your family, you know, about how important it was to you. And instead, you're over here like bringing me into like the most
Starting point is 00:15:51 contact areas. It's kind of gross. You know, there's a lot of junk, some glamorous. What were you thinking? You know, like any part of the junkyard, no one, no one. That machine was like crushing the car, like all the the cool broken glass and stuff around. No, absolutely not. No, I mean, have you done this to other girls? Like, is this your idea?
Starting point is 00:16:16 I mean, you the other girls wasn't my intention, but I guess like, no, this was a this is a one of a kind thing. You were the only girl I wanted to take to the junkyard. Oh, I thought that would sound so sweet. I just I swear I didn't want to I didn't want to make you scared. I clearly messed that up. Gosh, I don't know. I don't know how to feel about it, because like I genuinely was scared for my life when
Starting point is 00:16:43 we were there. But I mean, like I know, I know, I know. OK, I know it sounds like I was overreacting. So not really. Well, I I feel just terrible about how it ended. And if you feel like taking another risk on me, I promise I will not take you to the junkyard. We can go get some mocktails or small place or whatever it is
Starting point is 00:17:08 that is the furthest thing away from a, uh, a micro brewery and trash. Um, actually, you know, if you're willing to maybe go on another date when you left, I found this, this cool thing that, uh, at the juncture that like I felt would be cool to gift you. Oh, Hey Missy, would you like to go on another date with James? We'll pay for it. Wait, you made me something from the junkyard? Yeah, there was this really, you know, there was a lot of hidden
Starting point is 00:17:36 potential behind this thing that I saw. So I made you something and thought it would look good on you. Wow. I mean, yeah, that's, that's unique, I guess. But thank you. Is that a yes? Let's see. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Yeah. I mean, I believe him. Like he seems sincere. So I just have to put my fear away and I'll give him another shot. You can share your location with all your best friends. I was going to say, keep it a little bit. It can be the most public place. you can invite a bunch of your friends. I will make it as safe of an environment and the least trash like that I can. But this necklace is gonna look great on you. Made out of what? You polish a dirty enough piece of metal and it it shines just like your eyes. Oh, there you go. Missy. Jubal's first date follow up.
