Starting point is 00:01:47 The Jubal Show on demand. First day follow-up. Drew is on the phone today for a first day follow-up. He's not getting a call back from a woman named Mallory. Drew, Drew, Drew. Which is weird because they met on Bumble, he said, in his email, and that means that she chose
Starting point is 00:02:03 him. Right. So, wonder what went wrong. Drew, before we get into your date, how long has it been since you went out with Mallory? It's been like a little over two weeks. Okay. Okay. And how many times have you tried to reach out to Mallory in those two weeks? I don't know, like five-ish? Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Is that weird? I mean, it depends, but probably it's, it's probably two, it's probably two more times than you should. Like text, mostly text. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:02:33 And she hasn't responded to you at all. Um, no. Okay. Well, let's see if we can figure it out for you there, Drew. Tell us a little bit about your date with Mallory.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Um, yeah, I mean, it was at, um, a sip and pain class, which was pretty sweet. for you there, Drew. Tell us a little bit about your date with Mallory. Yeah, I mean, it was at a sip and paint class, which was pretty sweet. I don't know if you've ever done that. I've always wanted to. Me too. Yeah, that sounds fun. I've always wanted to do it too. I don't drink wine. I don't really dig wine
Starting point is 00:02:58 that much, but I like to paint. I do too. I like tequila. Yeah, so maybe there can be a sip and paint where it's tequila. Yeah, you bring your own bottle. Maybe Alex can get a sip and paint where it's tequila. Yeah, you bring your own bottle. Maybe Alex can get a smoke and paint. That's a business idea if I've ever heard of it. I'm kind of painting right now.
Starting point is 00:03:13 That is a good idea. Alright, we'll figure that out later. That's a good idea for a date though, Drew, because obviously everybody in this room wants to do it too. Yeah, exactly. And you probably can have a sober option or a smoking option but uh we did uh dinner after which i thought went i thought it went fine but the mood
Starting point is 00:03:36 sort of shifted a little bit i don't know like it wasn't a far walk or anything yeah it wasn't yeah and then um but um was the conversation as awkward as ours is going right now? Or was it better? No, it was better. It was better. We weren't, uh, we weren't jumping all over each other that much, but it was, um, it was good. I thought it was good, but I noticed like, I don't know, maybe she was angry or something,
Starting point is 00:04:03 you know, like the energy levels went down a tad, but. Oh, damn. Maybe she was angry. Yeah, and then she said something about not really liking her dish, but. Okay, okay. Which I, you know, I don't know. So she didn't just seem, like, not into it at dinner and even kind of upset. I don't know if upset's the right word.
Starting point is 00:04:21 That seems a little strong. Was she annoyed? She sort of, like, she kind of, yeah little strong. She kind of withdrew a little bit. She withdrew from Drew. Yeah, I saw that. See there, Drew? Yeah, didn't mean to do that. Okay, Drew, it's funny.
Starting point is 00:04:37 It's fine, Drew. We're not making fun of you, man. If it feels like we are, we're not. Yeah, no, I know you're not. It's just hard to keep up on the phone. There there's a lot of people on the phone you're probably a little nervous too what do you think went wrong on the date why do you think she's not calling you back i mean i want to know what went wrong but i don't know i just feel like she's got the most beautiful smile and like oh i don't know i like her eyes. And I feel like I did something. I feel like maybe
Starting point is 00:05:07 it was like, maybe we had too much, you know, when it's like, Oh, and on a good note, just ended after the paint and sip and like, maybe, you know, done dinner another time and maybe, maybe too long for the first day. I don't know. And like, I don't know. And, like, I don't know. Another thing is, like, I know that women like funny guys, and I am a scientist. Does that mean that you're not funny? Dude, I think scientists can be funny. Yeah, I think so sometimes, but I've been told that, you know, maybe my sense of humor can be a little dry or absent, you know? All right. So, well, yeah, I mean, you're obviously a smart dude if know. All right. So, well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:46 I mean, you're obviously a smart dude if you're a scientist. Yeah. Well, yeah. So, maybe, yeah. Maybe she wanted somebody who was a little more. More like a DJ or something. Yeah. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Maybe she wanted somebody who was more into the fart jokes. And you're probably not into the fart jokes unless you were doing experiments on why farts smell the way they do or something. I don't know. Well, there's a lot of farting in science science but yeah see i thought that was funny all right well we'll try to figure out for you drew we'll play a song come back and then call her and see if we can figure out why she's not getting back to you okay all right we'll play a song come back and get your first day follow-up next you're just joining us for today's first day follow-up drew is on the phone and he's not getting a call back from Mallory.
Starting point is 00:06:26 They went on a date. He thought she had a pretty good time. I say pretty good because they went on a date to one of those sip and paint things. It's easier to go to than to say. And he thought she had fun at that. But then they went to dinner after and her mood kind of changed and she seemed over it. Maybe a little bit disappointed. And then they went their separate ways and she seemed over it maybe a little bit disappointed and then
Starting point is 00:06:45 they went their separate ways and she hasn't talked to him since it's been about two weeks and he's heard nothing from mallory and he wants to know why she's ghosting so we're about to call her and ask and ask her why and see if we can get drew another date drew thinks that she might be ghosting him because maybe she just wasn't into it it was too long of a date they did too many things drew also thinks that he might not be the kind of funny dude that most women like because Drew's a little more reserved and he's a scientist and people tell him that he's
Starting point is 00:07:12 kind of dry and not super funny all the time. But that'd be a good way to describe it, Drew, because I thought you were funny. I thought you were personable, likable. I didn't find you boring. I like the description. I don't know if she feels that way, but that's nice.
Starting point is 00:07:26 We're about to call her and find out why she isn't calling him back and see if we can get through another date. All right. All right. Here we go. Hello? Hey, is this Mallory?
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah. Hi, how are you? This is the Jubal Show. It's a radio show. My name is Jubal. My name is Alex. My name is Christian. My name is Bennett.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Oh, my God. Hi. Oh, my God. Hello. Hey. Why are you guys calling me? I think is like what I really want to know. Oh, that's a good question.
Starting point is 00:08:04 We do a segment called The First Date Follow-Up. If you go out on a date with someone and then end up ghosting them, that person can email us to get you on the phone and ask what happened. So, uh-oh. And we got an email from Drew. Yeah. Yeah. So, Drew.
Starting point is 00:08:20 You sound concerned. Yeah. I feel bad about that one. What happened? Well, everything was great at first. Like we did, we went, I mean, I've heard you guys before, so I know. So he's told you like what we went, did on a date and stuff probably, right? Yes, he did.
Starting point is 00:08:39 So we did like this painting thing. It was awesome. Like he was a great guy. He's a great guy right so we had a really good time and we started talking about what we did for work and um i'm a paralegal um he was like oh i work in science that was like really vague and so i was like oh well what do you what do you do in science but But he meant mortician science. He embalms dead people for a living.
Starting point is 00:09:08 He's a mortician. Okay. Is that a problem? For me, that was just like the weirdest thing ever. And I was like, I asked him, like, how long ago have you touched a dead person before their date? You know, and I was like, he's like usually like when i go on these dates because we're on oh do you tell me we met on an app so yeah like we're both like on the app like
Starting point is 00:09:30 going on like we were just talking about bumble and stuff and like being on the app and like going out he's like well i i asked him like how you know what's your day like whatever he's like well i really go right from work to dates when i go on dates and stuff and i was like how recently have you touched a dead person he was like about an hour ago i was like i i mean i really liked him but i kind of i'm freaked out by like death and dead people and i just i just coming home after handling dead people all day i i just didn't know how to let him down so i just kind of ghosted a little bit i don't know like i he's a great guy he's a great guy i would think a dude who's a mortician and doesn't have a problem being like yeah i do my job as a mortician
Starting point is 00:10:19 then i just go straight to date like i don't think that i think he has the stomach to handle it if you told him you didn't want to go out with him again. I don't think it would bother him that much. Okay, so the job just creeped you out, pretty much. Yeah, it did. I mean, it's just, you know what, it's one of these cases, like it always sounds so ridiculous, but it's like, it's not you, it's me. Like, that's really the deal here. Like, it's not he's great, I can not, he's great. I can't.
Starting point is 00:10:47 I can't. I'm too freaked out. Okay. Well, I will let you know that Drew is actually on the phone listening and wants to talk to you. Which I thought you knew. Oh, I forgot he's there. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Yeah. I've been here. Hi. Hi. I mean, they're not wrong when they say, like, I can handle what you're saying because I do handle dead bodies. That's a little creepy. Maybe don't say it like that. Yeah, I know you're kind of a dry dude, but somehow that had like a little bit of a sexual twang on it. And not a good one. Yeah, like sultry.
Starting point is 00:11:20 The way you said I handle dead bodies came off sultry, and I don't think that's how you wanted to say it. I didn't mean to came off sultry and I don't think that's how you wanted to say it I didn't mean to come off sultry I'm coming off as you know slightly disappointed a little down no I'm just kind of I'm a kind of even keel right now yeah okay okay cool that's how I would describe myself but
Starting point is 00:11:38 listen I don't need this you got you she doesn't want it okay I mean you want me to get you want me to get angry? No, no, no, no. It's fine. I just was going to say, hey, you know, I didn't want to distract you because you were talking to her about like... Why would you want to get angry?
Starting point is 00:11:52 Handling the dead bodies and stuff. What the hell? And let's be honest. I'm willing to bet this isn't the first time you've had a little bit of pushback about your job. Not that there's anything wrong with your job, but you have to understand not everybody's into those who've passed on. Freaks people out, I'm sure. Yeah, sometimes. I know that.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Well, yeah, but it's not like I'm into dead people. That's not why I do it. Yeah, I think maybe it was just too vivid for me when you said that. I was like, oh, I can really picture it now. So maybe if that wouldn't have happened, maybe things would have been a little different okay so the hour before touching the dead bodies is really more of the thing that did it didn't made you not want to go out with drew again mallory it was kind of the whole thing but it was it that would made it really real you know he's great you're great you're so great you're so great everything's great yeah it's fine it's. You don't need to keep saying that.
Starting point is 00:12:46 You don't need to tell me that. Maybe if you weren't a mortician, you guys would be married one day. Maybe you guys should go out again and you never know. I don't think I can. I don't think I can. Also, he said you want me to get angry and I feel like that's a red flag.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Let me ask for sure. I asked if you wanted me to get angry? And I feel like that's a red flag. Let me ask for sure. I asked if you wanted me to get angry. Nobody wants you to get angry. Nobody wants anybody to get angry. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't mean like, Hey guys, check it out. What happens when I'm angry?
Starting point is 00:13:16 I meant more like, am I not supposed to feel this way? I mean, she's kind of just talking about me. Not you guys. guys well you guys are nice but you know yeah i am i'm not trying to talk about anybody i'm just telling you like what would you do for a living is not my thing i can't i can't okay so mallory would you like to go on another date with no okay no but thank you. Yeah, well, I'm sorry that my job doesn't exactly excite you, but it's not like being a paralegal is all that awesome either. Oh, Jade. No, I mean, you're right. It's not.
Starting point is 00:13:54 It's not about being exciting. The Jubal Show on demand. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric.
