Starting point is 00:00:01 Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You. This year, it's more you on Bumble. More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes. More of you finding Gemini's because you know you always like them. More of you dating with intention because you know what you want. And you know what? We love that for you. Someone else will too.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Be more you this year and find them on Bumble. The Indicator is a podcast where daily economic news is about what matters to you. And we're guessing most days, that's money. Workers have been feeling the sting of inflation. So as a new administration promises action on the cost of living, taxes, and home prices. The S&P 500 biggest post-election day spike ever. Follow all the big changes and what they mean for you. Make America affordable again.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Listen to The Indicator from NPR on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get podcasts. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric. Well, the election is in the homestretch, right in time for a new season of my podcast, Next Question. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like Ezra Klein, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also going to have some fun, thanks to some of my friends like Samantha Bee and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well.
Starting point is 00:01:25 I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about? Check out our new season of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Jubal Show on demand. First date follow-up. Disney is on the phone today for a first date follow-up, and she's not getting a call back from a dude named Jake that she met on TikTok and apparently it's been six days since their date
Starting point is 00:01:51 and he's been ghosting her Tiffany you met Jake on TikTok I don't think we've had anybody tell someone on TikTok like that before yeah um I mean I'm on TikTok all the time but I saw his videos and his page and so I liked his videos and commented, and then he responded in my DMs. Okay. But he hasn't talked to you since your date, and it's been six days. You said how many times have you tried to reach out to him in those six days? I mean, I've tried, like, you know, we usually talk every day, and so the fact that it's been six days, I've reached out several times. Like, I don't know what it could be i mean there was a few things that you know happened like
Starting point is 00:02:30 while we were on a virtual date um like my room was a bit messy you said virtual oh yeah so we live really far apart so we agreed to do like a virtual date instead of figuring out how to how to meet up yeah i was actually thinking about tiktok and i'm like that would be super hard to find someone in your area i would feel like but i'm like maybe it was like a friend's post that another i don't know anyways you guys did an online a zoom date zooming up we did yeah we did it on duo oh okay duo and it was awesome we had an amazing time we literally talked about like everything um like i could talk to him for hours and hours and yeah he's just really amazing um
Starting point is 00:03:13 and then after that we exchanged numbers and then texted you know texted and then after the date yeah like you said it's been six days and like i'm thinking back on our conversation and there was a few things like like i said my room was a little bit messy i don't know if i like the turn off um you want a woman who looks clean like i say like a lot and so maybe like that also and then at one point i mentioned that i was i like mentioned offhand that i was christian and then he got kind of like weird oh after that i don't know if it was that maybe did you guys go into talk about religion they say you should never really talk about religion on a first date no we didn't talk about it i think i just like said something offhand and then he like got i don't know it
Starting point is 00:03:59 seems like it got kind of weird after that okay well if he's not religious i mean that could be a reason to not call somebody back. Do you think that's it? I mean, that's like the biggest thing that I could think of. How quickly did the date end after you said that? I mean, it didn't end right away after that. We kept talking for a little bit, but I could tell that something like some energy changed or something. Hey, it's Bennett. You haven't heard from him for six days.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Is he actually posting on TikTok? Yeah. I mean, he's posted once, actually, since our date. Okay, so he didn't, like, disappear or something. He's there. He's there. TikTok man. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:34 And you'd like to get another date with him and go out in real life, right? Yeah, I would. I mean, I feel like we just vibe really well. Like, I'm really into him. We had a great conversation. I think he's super cute. He thinks I'm super cute. So I really want to know, like, why he's not responding to me.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Okay. Yeah, me too. Or, like, what I did. Me too. And it's a shame if two super cutes can't be together. That's what I always say. You know? Right?
Starting point is 00:05:01 To me. All right. Well, we'll play a song, come back, and then call him and see if we can figure it out for you and get another date with your first date follow-up right after this, okay? Cool. Thank you. Yep. We'll do it next.
Starting point is 00:05:13 We're in the middle of today's first date follow-up. If you're just joining us, Tiffany's on the phone, and she met Jake on TikTok. And Jake is now ghosting her, and she doesn't know why. They haven't actually gone out in real life, but they did have a date on Duo. Duo. Duo. I don't know what that is. What's Duo?
Starting point is 00:05:33 It's like FaceTime, but for Android. Okay, so Duo. It's FaceTime for Android. That's what their tagline should be for that company. Get Duo. It's FaceTime for Android. Okay, so you guys basically FaceTimed. Other than that,
Starting point is 00:05:46 they haven't been out in person. It's been six weeks and he's been ghosting her. She's seen him post on TikTok one time. Other than that, she has no idea why he's not talking to her.
Starting point is 00:05:55 She thinks that maybe it could have been she shared that she was Christian and he seemed kind of weird about that after, but not totally sure. So we're about to call him, get him on the phone
Starting point is 00:06:03 and figure out why he's not calling her back and try to get Tiffany another date. Is that a pretty good recap of the situation, Tiff? Yeah, that sounds just about right. All right, cool. Well, we'll dial this phone number right now, unless you want to say anything else. You good? Yeah. Okay, cool. Here we go. I'm going to dial this phone number. hello hi may i speak to jake please this is jake hi jake this is jubel from a radio show called the jubel show hi jake this is alex from the same show hi jake this is christian gray snow also from the same show i'm benn. I'm from the same show too. How are you?
Starting point is 00:06:49 Okay. I'm good. What's this about? Well, we got an email about you from somebody who listens to our show, and they wanted us to get you on the phone, so that's why we're calling. Is it bad? I'll tell you what we do. We do a segment on our show called The First Date Follow-Up. That's where if you go out on a date with somebody, and then you ghost them, they can email us to get you on the phone and find out what happened. And we got an email about you from Tiffany.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Oh, well, we didn't go out. Well, I guess that's true. Yeah, she told us that you guys did the duo thing. It's FaceTime for Android. Yeah, we found that out. Did you know that? Yeah, no, I knew that. She said that you guys haven't been out officially in person, but that was kind of a date and
Starting point is 00:07:30 she really liked you and she doesn't know why you've been ghosting her. Oh, it's, um, I don't know. These things are, it's complicated. Why are you calling her back or why are you ghosting her? I don't look like the person that she thinks I am. Why? Are you catfishing her? I don't know if I would call it catfishing.
Starting point is 00:07:52 I post on TikTok other videos, you know, like another person's videos. But she faced or whatever, duo'd you. Yeah, I said that my camera was broken on my phone, so. Are you serious? She didn't tell us that. Yeah, she didn't. What the hell? I know, I know.
Starting point is 00:08:12 It's messed up, and, like, I felt bad. And she was really cool and really funny, and obviously she's really pretty. But, like, the thing that really set me off was when she said, you know, she talked about her faith and her Christianity. I just felt really bad because I was like, am I messing with this person, this good Christian girl? I didn't want to keep it going. How far off on the picture are you?
Starting point is 00:08:41 I mean, we don't look anything alike. So it's TikTok. So you've been posting other people like somebody else's videos as you yeah uh you know what i've been able to talk to people and meet people like tiffany are you uh are you lonely yeah yeah if you're feeling lonely right now i don't think you're alone in this because i think a lot of people do that online because they feel lonely and they want somebody to talk to. So it worked for you in a way. You've talked to people, right?
Starting point is 00:09:14 Yeah. And I don't know. I feel like I can be more myself. It's weird, but I can be more myself. It sounds like Tiffany really liked the conversation that you guys had. She just didn't see your face. She still likes you, too, because she called the show. It sounds like Tiffany really liked the conversation that you guys had. She just didn't see your face. She still likes you, too, because she called the show.
Starting point is 00:09:32 I mean, that's really cool to hear. I don't know. I don't know. I just don't want to hurt her. I don't want to hurt her. I actually applaud you for being honest with us. And I applaud you for ghosting her, really, instead of continuing it on. Because people get used. They get strung along for so long
Starting point is 00:09:46 from catfishes and things like that, so good for you for stopping it and thinking of somebody's feelings. That's good. Hey, thanks, Ben. Yeah, and I don't think you should continue doing it. I do want you to talk to Tiffany, though.
Starting point is 00:10:02 I don't know if I can call her or anything. It would be kind of weird. You don't have to because she's on the phone listening and wants to talk to you. Tiffany is here right now. Hi. Hello. Hi.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Jake or whatever your name is I guess. My name is Jake. So the only thing that was fake was the videos? Everything else is actually you? Yeah. I don't know. I feel bad.
Starting point is 00:10:35 I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I just feel like, obviously, I kind of feel like used a little bit. But, you know, listening to you talk about the reasons why you were doing it, like, made my heart break. And, you know, to be honest, Jake, we did have really good conversations, and I really did feel like we connected. So I don't want you to invalidate any of that. Hey, this is probably a little crazy. What if I just texted you a picture of what I really look like? Would that help at all? I feel really bad about this. Yeah, I do want to see what
Starting point is 00:11:14 you look like. Okay, I'm going to write down the date on a piece of paper and take a selfie with it so you know it's me. Tiffany, this is crazy. It's got to be weird for you. Yeah, I mean, it's kind of weird. I feel like embarrassed that I... Don't be embarrassed. This is not your fault. What did you think when he wanted to duo,
Starting point is 00:11:38 like Zoom, whatever, a date, and then he didn't have a camera? Well, he told me his camera was like broken or something, and I actually really believed him. And we've been texting, and you know, like I see his, or I saw his videos, so I didn't think anything of it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Okay, I sent it. I got it. Well, it definitely does not look like who I thought I was talking to, but I really appreciate your honesty and willingness to be vulnerable and send your real self. And, you know, I don't, I don't judge people off of their looks. I take into account their personality and like their whole self. And I, I really like your
Starting point is 00:12:18 personality. I mean, we had such great conversations and I really felt like we we got along really well in a deep way and you know something I would like even more would be for you to just you know be you and be confident in like who you are and what you look like because you have so much to offer and oh that's really sweet that is Jake and Tiffany would you like to go out on another date, Jake? I'm open to it. Yeah. I really like that. The real Jake.
Starting point is 00:12:50 The real Jake. Okay. So how far, wait, where do you guys live? We live about like three hours from each other. Oh, okay. That's not bad. I was thinking like states. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Our station is broke, but they could buy a Greyhound bus ticket. Or you could just meet in the middle. Yeah. In the middle. That too. If you could just meet in the middle. Yeah, that too. If you guys have cars. What do you think, Tiffany? Yeah, yeah, I'd go up and do it as well. Oh, yay! Awesome, okay.
Starting point is 00:13:15 We'll get you guys together then, and you have to follow up with us and let us know. Yes, it's so exciting. And Jake, I am really looking forward to getting to know you more, the real you. Me too. Yay. All right. Congratulations to you both. And we will follow up with you guys and find out how this goes.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Thank you. Have a good one, y'all. The Jubal Show on demand. We're so done with new year, new you. This year, it's more you on Bumble.
