The Jubal
Show on demand.
First date follow-up.
Garrett is on the phone today for a first date follow-up.
He went on a date with a woman named Jenny
and now
when he opens his phone and hopes
that there's a text message from Jenny, there's nothing.
So you're getting ghosted by Jenny.
Tell us first, before we get into the dating stuff, how long has it been since you talked to Jenny?
It's been about a week, week and a half.
And how many times have you reached out to her in that week, week and a half?
I've tried. I've tried two or three times. All right. Well,
tell us a little bit about your date with Jenny. We had a nice dinner. It was really kind of
traditional. I mean, we got dressed up. I wore a tie and nice jacket. All right. And did you guys
go to a nice restaurant for that? It was a nice restaurant. It's slightly upscale. I picked her up and we just seemed to be getting along great.
When I dropped her off, we kissed.
Oh, there you go.
Okay.
So you got a kiss at the end of the night.
I mean, that shows that she liked you enough to kiss you.
Yeah.
And the next day she texted a lot.
And then after that, it was just nothing.
Do you think maybe you said something on text after your date that creeped her out or made her not want to talk to you?
I looked back on my text and everything seemed pretty normal.
Nothing seemed really like it was going to be a deal breaker or anything like that.
Did she recently get out of a relationship?
That's one possibility that I thought of
is why she ghosted me,
that maybe she got back with an ex or something.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
Maybe she thought she was ready to date
and she got cold feet or maybe...
Sometimes it does take getting back out there
before you're like, you know what?
Maybe not yet.
Yeah, I mean, that's certainly something I considered, Sometimes it does take getting back out there before you're like, you know what? Maybe not yet. Yeah.
I mean, that's certainly something I considered.
But, I mean, the date and the conversation, they just went great.
I mean, if she was texting with you, she kissed you at the end of the date, was texting with you much after, and then just disappeared.
No, I really thought about this, and I don't think it has anything to do with the date or even me.
Why do you think that? I mean. Yeah, I don't think it has anything to do with the date or even me why do you think that i
mean um yeah i don't i don't think it was me i looked back on all the texts and they seemed fine
i mean the last thing i texted her uh was a meme and uh it was pretty i mean didn't think it was
anything objectionable about it i don't know i, it could have been that maybe, I guess. Hey, this is Victoria jumping in.
What was the meme?
Well, you know,
in the text, we were getting kind of flirty.
And so I sent her this
meme of
an eggplant, and
it said, hi, I'm Larry
the eggplant.
You sent an eggplant meme.
You do know what the eggplant is the other
word for, right?
Well, you know, we were being kind of flirty
and, you know, the eggplant
had a face on it.
Said, I am Larry
the eggplant. I just thought I was
being kind of flirty.
And that's when she stopped texting you?
Yeah.
Maybe it was Larry the eggplant that messed up your game.
I don't know.
Maybe she's just not a mean girl.
All right.
No, we just, we seemed like we were, you know, it was like a mutual flirtation.
I thought it was like in the spirit of it.
I didn't think I crossed the line or anything.
Okay.
I mean, it sounds like a pretty tame meme, you know?
Yeah, but it's also an eggplant.
Exactly.
Like, she might not be the eggplant girl.
All right, well.
Just saying.
We'll try to figure it out for you.
We'll play a song, come back, and then call her and see if Larry the eggplant or something else is the reason she's not calling you back, okay?
Okay.
All right, we'll play a song, come back, and do your first date follow-up next.
Right in the middle of today's first date follow-up, if you're just joining us, Jared is on the phone.
He's getting ghosted by a woman named Jenny.
And you'd think it might have been because of Larry the Eggplant.
He'll do it.
Hey, Jared, why don't you recap your date with Jenny?
All right, we went out, we had a nice dinner.
We seemed to be getting along great.
Seemed to be on the same wavelength. I thought she was really attractive. an eggplant with a face on it,
and it said, hi, I'm Larry the Eggplant.
I think it's hilarious.
The more you say it, the more I think it is funny.
And that's when she stopped texting you.
And after that, yeah, just nothing. All right, well, we'll get her on the phone now
and see if we can figure out if Larry the Eggplant is the reason
or if it's something else.
Okay.
Are you ready, man?
Okay.
All right.
Here we go.
Hello.
Hi, may I speak to Jenny, please?
This is Jenny.
Jenny, how are you?
My name is Jubal from a radio show called the jubal show
and i'm victoria from the same show i'm sorry i'm bennett and christian gray snow here too
we're all here we are four of us on the phone right now okay we do a segment on our show called
the first day follow-up it's where if you go out on a date with somebody and then end up ghosting
them that person can email us to get you on the phone and find out why.
So we got an email about you from one of our listeners.
Oh, okay.
And apparently it's been a little over a week and they haven't talked to you since they went on a date with you.
Do you know who might have emailed us?
Yes, I think I have an idea.
Was his name Larry the Eggplant?
Oh, gosh.
Was it Jared by any chance?
Yes, it was.
Jared emailed us and he said he really liked your date.
And you guys were texting a bunch after and he's wondering why you ghosted him.
Oh, wow.
So he did tell us why he thinks you're not calling him back.
And he said you guys were texting after your date and it was getting flirty.
And he texted you a meme of Larry the eggplant, which he thinks is funny, which sounds funny to me.
I haven't seen it, but that's when you stopped talking to him.
So he's wondering if you went too far with that.
No, I mean, I thought it was funny.
I thought it was a fun meme. Okay.
So it wasn't Larry the Eggplant?
No, it wasn't
Larry the Eggplant. I'm sure
he sends that to a lot of women.
Oh, why do you say that?
Well, because
he dated my sister. What?
And ghosted my sister.
When?
It was a few months ago.
Oh.
I think maybe he's going on many dates.
Does he know?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I've not said anything, obviously, and I don't think my sister has either.
So how did you find out he dated your sister?
Well, I mean, my sister and I talk about everything.
I told her I went on a date that I really enjoyed.
And she's like, well, let me see a picture of him.
And, you know, showed her a picture and she was like, oh, well, that's the guy that ghosted me last month.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
I have a question for you.
Okay, so he doesn't know probably that he went on a date with your sister and ghosted her.
Did they date for a while or did they go on a couple dates, or just one date?
Do you know?
Yeah, I mean, it was multiple dates.
And they talked enough to make the ghosting feel kind of crappy.
Do you think he sent her the Larry the Eggplant meme, too?
That's actually a good question.
You know what?
I'll text her right now, and I'll ask her, actually.
Okay.
I wonder if Jared knows if that was your sister.
I don't know.
We should ask him.
Okay.
Because Jenny, Jared is on the phone listening.
He's been listening this whole time and he wants to talk to you.
Hi, Jenny.
Hi.
I really, I had no idea that Nicole was your sister.
That's not my sister.
Oh!
You are busy, busy.
Yeah, man.
Nicole is not your sister?
No.
Do you want to go through your list,
and I'll just let you know when you come up with her name?
Well, okay, is Julie?
Yes, Julie is my sister.
Oh, yeah, I had no idea.
I had no idea, this is, well, this is embarrassing.
Why did you ghost Julie?
You know, we had two or three dates,
and it just wasn't really, it wasn't really clicking and I probably could
have handled that whole thing better I think so I mean if you're if you're making a call to me
on the radio it obviously upset you to be ghosted so I don't think you should be doing that to other
people yeah yeah honestly I don't I kind of have like a strong line the ghosting thing I feel like
we're old too old for that at this point.
And you've got to treat people the way you want to be treated.
That's a good point.
I should have done that.
I just didn't handle that well at all.
Well, it sounds like you have a couple phone calls to make after this.
I mean, look, it's your life, but I would say it really doesn't feel good to be ghosted and people deserve an explanation.
And we're adults and everybody wants to feel wanted and loved and nobody wants to feel like they're not enough and not good enough.
So I do think it is important to talk to people.
Yeah.
To top it off, my sister did text me back and she also got the layer of the eggplant.
Yeah. So you're recycling stuff. My sister did text me back, and she also got the Larry the Eggplant meme. Oh, yeah.
So you're recycling stuff.
I just send that to people.
First of all, find a better meme.
I just, yeah, I send that to her.
It's not funny enough for what's going on.
What do you mean?
What do you mean?
Larry the Eggplant is hilarious.
Oh, my God.
Do you know what an eggplant means?
Yeah, I mean, it's really funny. I mean, if it was just a picture of an
eggplant, it wouldn't
be funny, but you know, you put a face on
it and you give
the eggplant a name, like Larry,
which is a funny name.
And it's a funny meme.
I just thought it was really funny. I have tons of
friends who just
think it's hysterical.
I'm really sorry that I ghosted her and that I sent her Larry the eggplant.
And, you know, Jenny, if you give me a second date, I promise I won't send Larry the eggplant out anymore.
I'll retire Larry the eggplant.
I mean, that's sweet talk right there.
Jenny, would you like to go out with Jared on another date? We'll pay for it. I'll retire. I'll retire, Larry the Eggplant. I mean, that's sweet talk right there.
Jenny, would you like to go out with Jared on another date?
We'll pay for it.
You know, I'm torn because I had a nice time,
but what if you just decide to go with me later?
Honestly, there's a lot of red flags happening right now.
Hey, I mean, you know, I don't like your sister.
Touché, I think.
Yeah.
Look at that, Jenny, come on.
No more Larry the Eggplant and he doesn't like your sister.
Oh, gosh.
Well, with a line like that,
I guess I just never need to date again.
I love her.
That is a hard no.
And I'm talking Larry the Eggplant type of hard no. And I'm talking Larry the eggplant type of hard no.
