Well, the election is in the homestretch, right in time for a new season of my podcast, Next Question. First date follow-up. Talk about going backwards. Akeem is on the phone for a first date follow-up today, and he's what you'd call a backwards dater. Really?

What does that mean? Yeah. That's where your relationship goes in reverse. Apparently, Akeem hooked up with the girl that he wants to call today. Yeah. Right? But then he couldn't even get a kiss on his next date. And now he can't even get a response to a text.

Oh, my God. So, yeah, he did something. So, he definitely did something wrong, and I don't know where to start. Akeem, should we start at the beginning or the end? Where do we start with your date? I guess we'll start at the beginning. Okay. Is the beginning the last date where she wouldn't kiss you or whatever,

or the date where you guys hooked up? You would think it was the date where she didn't kiss me, but it was the date when we hooked up. That was, like, where it started. Wow. So we met at – her name's iris okay and we met at a restaurant like i was there with some friends and she was there with some friends and i guess we just started like mingling and talking and like the conversation was really good and like we were all laughing getting along and uh one thing led to another and eventually like i asked her like hey do you want to have like a cocktail back at my place or whatever and she was down so she came over and we had like a really

good night together and that was the first day like we ended up like she ended up like spending the night over okay so as far as dates goes I mean that's the ultimate that's what you hope for yeah it was a great yeah it was a great day it was a great first date it was it was a great like everything went really well. And I don't know what happened because, like, we were texting back and forth. And then we ended up going on, like, a second date. Like, she invited me over to, like, a barbecue. Like, one of her friends was, like, having, like, this cool barbecue or whatever.

So she must have liked what happened when she was at your place to ask you out again. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, that's what I thought. So, like, the barbecue's going well, everyone's like, having fun or whatever, and then it comes to, like, the end of the barbecue, and, like, I guess I'm, like, I'm walking to my car, and I was

like, I went in for, like, the, like, you know, the goodbye, like, kiss, I'll see you later type thing, and she just, like, gave me the cheek. Oh, gave you the cheek. After giving you the other cheek. Yeah. So you guys had hooked up and then she didn't even kiss you at the end of hanging out at the barbecue.

Yeah. And I was like, I'll text you later. She's like, okay. And then I texted her and nothing. So was there a certain point in the barbecue that you feel like it kind of went south? Honestly, I don't know. I thought everything was going really well. Hmm.

Okay. Well, you must have really well. Hmm. Okay. Well, you must have done something. Yeah. Well, how long has it been since then? It's been like, I don't know, like three days, three or four days. Like she hasn't texted back in like forever. Like it feels like forever, but it's only been like four days since I last texted her. Okay.

Four days. But that's long enough though. I think, you know, especially if you guys had met, hooked up, then went to a barbecue, didn't get a kiss. And then did she respond to you at all after the barbecue? No, it's been like a ghost town. Nothing at all. Okay. You have to have done something, though, because, I mean, you know, she asked you out to the barbecue, right?

Yeah, yeah. She thought, she was like, hey, my friend's having a cool barbecue. It'd be cool if you came. I'm like, all right. Did you wear something weird? Top hat? Maybe her friends didn't like you.

I mean, maybe. I just wore like a t-shirt and some jeans. Like nothing like fancy. Okay, well. We'll see if we can figure it out for you. And you've heard nothing from her? Nope. But like, everything seemed so cool.

Like she was funny. She was laughing at my jokes. We had really good rapport. Like, I just, I don't know. I just really wanted to see her again. I thought we kicked it off really well. Okay. And you swear there's nothing at the barbecue that could have happened?

I can't think of a thing. I really can't. I've been racking my brain over. I can't think of anything. Well, if there is something, we'll find it. Yeah, we will. So if you're not telling us something, because a lot of times people will forget to tell us. If you haven't gotten all the details in, now's the time to do it.

No, I don't think I'm missing anything. I think that's everything. I can't think of a thing. All right. Well, we'll play a song and then come back and call her and see if we can figure out why she's not calling you back. All right? All right. Sounds good.

They actually hooked up the same night they met. Whoa. Then she invited him to a barbecue. He went to the barbecue. At the end of the barbecue, he went to kiss her. Remember, they've done a lot more than kiss before that. Yes, they have. And she wouldn't kiss him.

Which is strange. And she hasn't talked to him since. So, we're going to see if we can get her on the phone and figure out what happened. Alright, Hakeem, you ready? Yeah, I really want to find out because I can't think of anything I did wrong. Okay. This is always what happens. You say, I can't think of anything and then we get him on the phone and then it's something

What's going on? Why are you calling me? Did I win something? No. No, you didn't. I'm calling me? Did I win something? No. No. I'm calling you today because we do a segment on our show called the first date follow up. It's where if you go out on a date with someone and then end up not calling them back after they can email us to get you on the phone and figure out what happened. And we got an email about you from somebody who actually went out on a few dates with

you and now you're not calling him back and he wants to know why. Do you know who we're talking about? Is it Akeem? Yeah. Could it be him? Yep. It is. Yep, it is.

Oh, boy. So Akeem emailed us and told us about your date. He said he really liked you, but he can't figure out why you're not getting back to him. Also, we have some questions just in general about the whole thing. Many. Oh. You have questions? Yeah.

Specifically, so he told us about your date. He said that when you guys first met, you actually hooked up. Naughty, naughty. He didn't give us any details. If you want to, you can. That's fine,

even give him a kiss goodbye, and he hasn't talked to you since, so he's confused. I'm inclined to find out why you're not calling him back. Well, you're right. I didn't call him back and I didn't text him back. But, you know, it really comes down to the fact that I did have a good time with him. But in the end, when I brought him to the barbecue, my friends just kind of, they kind of really didn't care for him for me. You know, they thought, you know, they just, they just didn't like him.

Okay. Like his character? Yeah. What about him? They just, they didn't really say. They just said they just didn't feel like he was right for me. Something was off. Oh my God. And that was enough for you to like totally write him off? Well, you know, I've made some bad decisions in my day. So I, lately I've

been using my friends to make my decisions for me because I've made some real bad ones. Okay. So were you not like, did you have any of those same feelings at all? Um, no, I, you know, I had a good time, but you know, again, I just don't trust my judgment anymore. Okay. I really don't trust my judgment. So I just kind of, I'm just kind of going with them. Okay. So you liked him, but also you don't trust yourself when it comes to dating.

so like I'm on a date with you and your friends. I have to impress everybody? Well, I get, you know, I just really, you know, I've had, Akeem, it really was nothing against you as far as I saw. But I just, you know, I've had such bad experiences lately that I am just a little, you know, gun shy, I guess you could call it. So I just asked them. Okay, well, which one of your friends didn't like me? Or was it like a group thing? Did they take a vote?

Like, I don't understand. Like, were there yeas and neys? I know, it sounds a little weird. No, some of them were like, no, he's okay. And then a couple were like, no. And they just, so I just. And then a couple were like, no. So was it like 60-40? Like, I want one of the percentages.

You know what? I think I just got nervous because I didn't know what to think. And I didn't, you know, since we hooked up, then I felt weird. And I don't usually do that. Yeah, you weren't nervous the first night. Yeah, I know. And I guess I really liked you. And then I felt it was just the whole, you know what, it was the whole mind thing for me.

I did have a good time on the first date and maybe I shouldn't listen to my friends. Did you have fun at the barbecue too before your friends started hating? You know, actually I did have a good time. I really did. And then they started saying, well, I don't know if he's for did and then they started saying well I don't know

if he's for you and then so they made me second guess myself and well you should give it one more chance yeah yeah do you want to go on another date with Akeem we'll pay for it I mean I I would I kind of feel you know I yes I would go on another date if he understands where I'm coming from you know dating's so hard now I mean I'd go on another date as he understands where I'm coming from. You know, dating's so hard now. I mean, I'd go on another date as long as your friends aren't there. Yeah, stay away from them. Are your friends going to be angry if you go out with them again? You know what?

You know what? I am a grown woman. I think I just need to get over my past. And I would love to go on a date with you again if you want to. That's cool. Congrats. We did it.
