Starting point is 00:01:32 or wherever you get your podcast. In the 1980s, modeling wasn't just a dream. It was a battlefield. It's a freaking war zone. These people are animals. The Model Wars podcast peels back the glossy cover and reveals a high-stakes game where survival meant more than beauty.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Hosted by me, Vanessa Grigoriatis, this is the untold story of an industry built a ruthless ambition. Listen to Model Wars on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First date of follow-up, powered by the Advocates Injury Attorneys, online at Advocateslaw.com. Iris is on the phone today for a first day follow-up, and she's getting ghosted by a guy named Toby, so in a few minutes we'll call him and see if they'll tell us why he's ghosting her and maybe get her a
Starting point is 00:02:20 second date. But first, Iris, how long has it been since you heard from Toby? It's been about two weeks. Two weeks? Okay, that's a decent amount of time. Was the last time you talked to him on the date? I texted him. No, the last time I texted him and then he kind of liked my text with the thumbed up and then that was it.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Oh, how annoying. He did not respond. Also, I got to praise you for not doing any anxiety text and following that up with something because there's a good chance that may have happened. Thank you. No, I mean, I've been restraining myself. I'm just like, okay, just play it cool. Like, I'm just trying to play it cool.
Starting point is 00:03:01 I'm trying to, like, we go far back. So, so we're just, yeah, I know, I've known to it for a while. Oh, okay. So you've known each other. How long have you guys known each other? We were actually college sweetheart, our freshman year. So, yeah, so, you know, a good amount of time, like 15-ish years. And, look, it was quintessential college.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Like, he made out with a girl, and I brought. I looked up with him when that happened. You know, it was kind of right of passage of, like, college stuff. I didn't really take it that personal. I had a boyfriend, like, literally two days later. So it was. Okay. So I was back in the day, and then you guys reconnected.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Well, we actually, like, bumped into each other at Target so random. Oh. Yeah, it was really random. And he looked the same, and he just seemed, like, more manly. It was, yeah, it was kind of, like, instinct. connection. So then how did you guys decide to hang out outside of Target? Or did you do it like in that moment? Well, it was kind of like this in this moment. He's like, hey, can I, you know, get your number? Like he wasn't super, he wasn't cheesy about it, but he was in like being like, yeah, of course you want to
Starting point is 00:04:15 give you your number. And so then we just set up a time and went to the candle making workshop. Okay, that's a fun date. It was fun. It was fun. And we were just like having a really good time. We were like laughing at us he made he makes sense and and the sense were all mixed up and kind of felt like all the dip burnt popcorn is what we called it um but we were just like laughing really hard and people were like staring at us it was really it was it was a really fun day so what happened um we hooked up after uh okay naturally it was it was great and it was just like nostalgic but also like felt fresh and new like there was some like new chemistry there with him and I it was just like our love story sequel like it was it was really sweet why do you think he's not calling you
Starting point is 00:05:08 back well so the girl that he made out with I found her on Instagram this is a long time ago and I sent it to him and I was like oh my god it was that girl that you made out with in college remember her ha ha ha yeah he didn't really stick anything he just kind of like liked it and I I was, I thought it was keeping it fresh and fun. Yeah, that's, that's kind of awkward. Yeah. But also kind of silly. Like, why would he, I mean, if you're ghosting somebody after that, that's, I don't
Starting point is 00:05:40 know, maybe you just didn't want to remember that time. Yeah, I guess. I don't, I don't know, like, a little sad about it. Like, it was, maybe it was kind of awkward for me to do that now that you're saying that. Maybe it was. Yeah, but you guys hooked up. After you hook up with somebody that you know, they should do more than like a That's what I think.
Starting point is 00:05:59 I mean, like, I don't know, especially because there's history there. It's not, he's not the random guy I just met. Is that the last you heard from him was after that? That was basically it. Yeah, that was two weeks ago. Okay, well, we'll see if we can figure it out for you. We'll play a song, come back, and then call him and see if he'll tell us why he's ghosting you. And then see if we can get you a second date, okay?
Starting point is 00:06:21 I appreciate it. Thank you so much. All right. We'll get your first day follow up next. I'm Jorge Ramo. And I'm Paola Ramos. Together we're launching The Moment, a new podcast about what it means to live through a time, as uncertain as this one. We sit down with politicians.
Starting point is 00:06:37 I would be the first immigrant mayor in generations, but 40% of New Yorkers were born outside of this country. Artists and activists, I mean, do you ever feel demoralized? I might personally lose hope. This individual might lose the faith. But there's an institution that doesn't lose faith. And that's what I believe. To bring you depth and analysis from a unique Latino perspective. There's not a single day that Paola and I don't call or text each other,
Starting point is 00:07:05 sharing news and thoughts about what's happening in the country. This new podcast will be a way to make that ongoing intergenerational conversation public. Listen to The Moment with Jorge Ramos and Paola Ramos as part of the MyCultura podcast network on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. We're getting a little bit older, and it just kind of felt like the window could be closing. Bloomberg and IHeart Podcasts present.
Starting point is 00:08:08 IVF disrupted, the Kind Body Story, a podcast about a company that promised to revolutionize fertility care. Introducing Kind Body, a new generation of women's health and fertility care. Backed by millions in venture capital. and private equity, it grew like a tech startup. While Kind Body did help women start families, it also left behind a stream of disillusioned and angry patients. You think you're finally like with the right people in the right hands and then to find out again that you're just not.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Don't be fooled. By what? All the bright and shiny. Listen to IVF disrupted, the Kind Body story, starting September 19 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. If you're just joining us for today's first date, follow-up, Iris is on the phone, and she's getting ghosted by a guy named Toby. So in a second, we're going to call him and see if he'll tell us why he's ghosting her and maybe get her a second date.
Starting point is 00:09:07 But first, Iris, why don't you break down your date again for us real quick? Sure. We ran into each other at Target. We're old college freshman sweethearts and sparks flew. We went and had a date. We made some candles, had a blast. and then hooked up that night, and then I sent him a text, like, a day later, basically reminds him of the past, and now I haven't heard from him in two weeks.
Starting point is 00:09:37 All right. Are you ready for us to call him? Yeah, I'm ready. Okay. Here we go. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Toby, please? Yes, sir. Who's this? Hey, Toby, how are you?
Starting point is 00:10:01 This is a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show. Hi, Toby. I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria. And my name's Jubal. What's up? What's up?
Starting point is 00:10:10 How much? You ever listen to the show before? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm, I, every once in a while, I work from home, but, you know, I'm not. Okay. I'm all, yeah, I've got you guys on in the car, sure. Oh, thank you. Thank you very much, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Toby, then you've probably heard the first day follow-up before, and that's a segment where if you go on a date with somebody and you end up ghosting them, they can have us get you on the phone and ask why you're ghosting. And we got an email about you from somebody. Uh-huh. Okay. Yeah, this is a little awkward.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Do you know who would email us? Yeah, I'm assuming this is about Irish. Yeah, Iris, you guys used to be college sweethearts and then ended up running into each other again and went on a date and now you're ghosting her. She doesn't know why. Would you mind telling us? Yeah. It's, please do not judge me like this is going to sound a little more loaded than it is. But I'm kind of, I'm actually, I'm not kind of, I am, I'm engaged.
Starting point is 00:11:21 What? I mean, it's complicated, but, yeah, no, it's, it's like we paid for the invitations and everything, so. Oh. What the fuck, Toby. Hey, Toby, that's her. She's on the phone. Do you have anything to say what? Yeah, what.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Oh, oh, God. Hi. Wow. Are you kidding me? Hi. No, I got, please, just, um, sorry I'm not good with, like, confrontation. Oh, my God. Oh, really? What? So, you're going to burn me again? No, no. I'm sorry. Okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I, I, um, I, I, I, I didn't know, um, I, I didn't know what to do, okay? You like, you got really, you got me really messed up over here. and um i'm just i should go in your room i couldn't stop thinking about like you and your laugh and
Starting point is 00:12:31 and the way that you you smelled like like toasted vanilla you know after doing the candles and and in your lips and you know oh god we are together and i'm sorry i'm just i'm sorry often, you cheat on your fiance often? No, no, no, no. I just, I think I want to, I think I have to call off my wedding. Do you think that, if you're honest with yourself, Toby, do you think that you actually wanted to call off your wedding and needed an excuse? Or is it really because you have feelings for Iris?
Starting point is 00:13:08 I know what I felt with Iris. And I feel like you felt it too. I know you felt it too. Yeah, but like you can't say those things after finding out that you're engaged, Toby. like really I just I just feel like we just need to spend a little more time together so that I can like see if me doing this is the right idea or not you know no you're engaged what no you're this is ridiculous no I know didn't you say Iris when we were talking to earlier that when you dated him in college he cheated on you too yeah and he's doing it again like again we're here we're basically at the same spot that we left off on Thank you so much. That was totally different. That was, like, 15 years ago, I'm, I'm a different person now.
Starting point is 00:13:57 You're a different person. That was, that was, that was, I, like, made out with some other chick. It was, that was nothing. This is, like, very different. We should go off air and we should just talk this out. We should meet up. We should, let's go out. Let's just go out again and see, you know, I feel like the sparks are there.
Starting point is 00:14:18 and I've just been like these, I haven't responded because I just, I can't stop thinking about you, you know? And it's, you're engaged, you're engaged. And I don't want you to not be engaged because of me, because of a target and our stupid date with candles. No, no, this is ridiculous. Just go on with your life and I'll see you. Never. No, I'm, I'm sorry. Like, I feel like, I feel like us reconnecting was like fate in a way, you know?
Starting point is 00:14:48 It's like you, I feel like you're, you're the woman I always should have been with. I feel horrible forever who you're engaged to, and this is, no, I know, I feel horrible too. I know, I know, I feel horrible. I, I think I, I think I'm in love with you. What? Oh, wow. You need to talk to your therapist. This is not okay.
Starting point is 00:15:10 I know, I know it's not okay. That's why we need to push beat up, you know, and we can just, if you need to, if you need, a little time to think this over. I totally get it, but I want to see you. Well, I have to ask because it's a first day follow-up. Iris, would you like to go on another day with Toby? We'll pay for it. Yeah, I'll meet
Starting point is 00:15:30 up with you, but I'm not making any calls. What? Thank you. Thank you. You are? I just think I have to check it out, like Toby said. I just, I'm just check out, like, we're just going to talk, Toby. Nothing's going to happen. Are you sure? You know you're playing fire, girl. I get it.
Starting point is 00:15:47 and we'll just talk, we won't, we won't mess around with candles or scents or any of that stuff. Oh my God. Look each other in the eyes and see what this is. Okay. Yeah. Let's just, just for a little bit. All right. Well, good luck, Iris and Toby.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Thank you. Be careful, Iris. Be very careful. Thank you. I will be. Thank you so much. Joubles first date follows. I'm Jorge Ramos.
