First day follow-upup mallory is on the phone today for a first day follow-up and she's not getting a call back from a dude named jacob what's up mallory how's it going um could be better how are you not too bad thanks for asking so before we get to the reason you think he's not calling you back tell us about your date with jacob um jacob and i met actually waiting in line at starbucks and we have seen each other there so
Starting point is 00:02:05 many times in the morning we're just like kind of on the same schedule I guess for work so we keep like running into each other wow that's like straight out of a romantic comedy what a romantic meeting I don't know we kind of just always exchanged glances you know so one day he actually decided to ask me out and he took me out to a really nice restaurant for dinner. It was really good. But I have not heard from him in about two weeks since that date. Oh, dang. So I don't know what happened.
Starting point is 00:02:34 And he hasn't hit you up at all? Yeah, he hasn't reached out to me or like texted me. I just asked him how he was and he didn't text me back. And you only texted him one time after your date? Yeah. How long has it been? Two weeks. How did the date go? Was it good or was there anything that like went weird during it? No, it went so well. Like I had such a good time. I honestly haven't had a good date like that in a
Starting point is 00:02:55 while. We had a lot in common, you know, like especially with work, it's hard for me to like find someone who's just as kind of like career driven as I am. And we both have really demanding jobs, but I don't know. I thought it went well. Like I'm trying to rack my brain on why he isn't calling me back. Maybe I talked about work too much, but he was doing that too.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Like I had to look at my phone a few times cause I, I did get some important emails and texts. But, like, he said that wasn't a problem. Like, I don't think that was a problem. Well, if you guys are both career focused, if you're checking your phone for work, that probably would be something he would understand, I think. Right. Did you have to take any phone calls? Like, have to get up from the table or anything?
Starting point is 00:03:40 No, I just literally, like, checked my phone a few times. I did, like, excuse myself to the bathroom to send an email. But like it was only one time. It's not a problem. If you kept going to the bathroom to check your email, he might think you have some sort of drug problem. That happens for me because I have to pee a lot. And people have thought I had a cocaine problem for a lot of my life because I have allergies and I have to pee a lot. So I'm in the bathroom and I sniffle a lot.
Starting point is 00:03:59 And most of the time it's allergies. How did the date end? He like dropped me off at home and kind of like kissed me on the cheek. Oh, cheek kiss. And like said he would be in touch with me. So yeah, it was a little weird. But you know, it was still kind of like a first date. So I wasn't reading into it too much.
Starting point is 00:04:17 But he did say that he was going to be in touch and he hasn't. Yeah. And he's not. Is there anything you're forgetting to tell us? Because people always call up and they tell us the day went great it was amazing we made plans to go out again and then they always forget some terrible detail that they should have told us about is there
Starting point is 00:04:32 anything else no I like really I can't think of anything all right well hopefully he doesn't think of anything all right we'll play a song come back call him and see if we can figure it out for you and get your first date follow up next in the middle of your first date follow up you're just joining us mallory is on the phone and she went out to dinner with a dude named jacob they met at starbucks i guess they go to the
Starting point is 00:04:52 same starbucks all the time one morning he asked for her phone number took her to dinner she said they had a great time they both bonded over the fact that they're both really career driven and motivated people she thinks the reason that he might be ghosting her after their date is because she was on her phone a lot for work and she had to excuse herself to the bathroom one time to send an email. But other than that, she doesn't think it was too much of a distraction and she has no idea why he's not calling back.
Starting point is 00:05:15 So we're about to get him on the phone and find out why he's not calling her back and see if we can get her another date. Are you ready? Are you nervous? Yeah, I'm a little nervous because like I said, it's been like two weeks and we've gotten to this point where I need your help. Well, look at it this way.
Starting point is 00:05:29 By the end of this phone call, you will have an answer. Yeah, I will. All right. I'm going to call him. Here we go. Hello? Hey, is this Jacob? Yes, it is. Who's this?
Starting point is 00:05:52 This is Jubal from The Jubal Show. It's a radio show. This is Alex. This is Christian. This is Bennett. And it's The Jubal Show. It's a radio show. What's up? What's going on, guys? Not much. Just calling you to say hi, Jacob. Hello. Have you heard of The Jubal Show before?
Starting point is 00:06:05 No, I don't know your show. I've never heard of you guys. What is it? It doesn't surprise me. It's a radio show. It's on the radio, and there's also podcasting, too. It's called The Jubal Show. And sometimes we have listeners email us to get somebody on the phone to talk to them about certain things. Is that
Starting point is 00:06:21 vague enough for you? But one of our listeners emailed us about you. Do you know who would email us? I'm going to let you guys tell me who it is. That's not how this works. Yeah, that's not how this works. This is a first date follow up. It's where if you go out on a date with somebody and end up not calling them back, they can
Starting point is 00:06:39 email us to get you on the phone and find out why you're ghosting them. So are you ghosting a lot of people? I, okay. I don't stand anybody up, but it's like, you know, in the modern world, I don't know. Okay, I have a feeling who it might be, maybe, but I kind of want you guys to say it. Okay, on the count of three, we'll all say her name. You too, Jacob.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Okay. One, two, three. Mallory. Thank you for admitting me. Are you guys kidding me? All right, so yeah, it's Mallory. Why are you calling Mallory back? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:07:15 All right. Wait, she called you guys? Yeah, she said you guys met at Starbucks and went to dinner, and she thought you were having a great time, but you're not calling her back. And she thinks that you might not be calling her back because she was on her phone too much. Wow, you guys really have our whole story, don't you? Oh, you haven't even heard it all yet.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Just wait. Oh, man. Yeah, okay. I remember her checking a couple emails and stuff, but that was definitely not. I mean, she and I both kind of like work in like a similar, I don't know, not similar fields, but we both have like really busy schedules and work like a ton more than most people. So that I totally understood. I had no problem with that. Okay. I didn't think you would have a problem with it if both you guys were, you know, career focused people and you put your jobs first. So if that's not it then what is it i don't know okay the truth is part of part of the reason that i got up the courage to ask her out was because my i had just found out that i'm
Starting point is 00:08:11 actually leaving the city like relocating um and no but that's kind of why i didn't want to follow up with her it's just because i feel like that would have just made things way more complicated than it needed to be i guess and i didn't want to go down that road. Okay. So you're moving and you didn't want it to be complicated. So you're not calling her back. Maybe she'd go with you right away after the first date. Maybe she'd move with you wherever you're moving to right after the first date. You never know. So ask her out, have fun, get her hopes up and then leave her. Sounds like a setup. Okay. You know, okay, you know how those moments go.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Like, it all happens in one second. So, like, I didn't expect to see her again at the Starbucks, but I did. And I don't know, I couldn't resist. I've always thought she was really cute, and we've always kind of, like, silently flirted from across the Starbucks and stuff. And I just figured you'd shoot your shot. Yeah. How was the actual conversation when you guys went out to dinner?
Starting point is 00:09:05 Oh, it was great. She's really funny. She's smart. She's really cute. I thought it was great. So it was great. And you liked her a lot, but you didn't tell her that you were moving. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:15 That's a fair, but to be, wait, to be fair, that can just put a damper on the evening. And then it's like, I don't know. I didn't, I didn't think it totally through, but I didn't want to just drop that bomb, I guess. Well, you should have just told me, should have just dropped the bomb. Wait, hello? Yeah. Mallory?
Starting point is 00:09:36 Yeah, that's Mallory on the phone because she's been listening and wants to talk to you. I should have told you that. She just kind of jumped on there. Oh no. Okay. Okay. Do you want me to, okay. I really had a good talk to you. I should have told you that. She just kind of jumped on there. Oh, no. Okay. Okay. I really had a good time with you.
Starting point is 00:09:49 God, this is tough. I didn't know what to do. I guess I actually, like, I understand, but I just don't know why you couldn't have told me or, like, I'm just a little confused why you even asked me out in the first place if you're just going to leave. I don't know. I should have told me or like, I'm just a little confused why you even asked me out in the first
Starting point is 00:10:06 place, if you're just going to leave, like, I don't know. I should have told you. You're right. I should have been upfront about it, but it was just like, I don't know. I guess I figured that sometimes we had a good time, but sometimes it's easier to just not follow up because then I don't know if things go well, then we begin to like indulge and see each other and crushes happen and then we have to like exercise restraint and it gets tougher and tougher and sometimes i don't know i just feel like silence is the best way but obviously that was wrong i mean you could have you could have at least just told her though and not ghosted her right i don't think ghosting me was the right thing to do.
Starting point is 00:10:46 No. Yeah, I don't know. We were having great conversations. We were laughing. Like, that was one of the most fun dates I've had definitely all year. And I just didn't want to bring that up and just, I don't know, put a damper on the whole thing. And I wanted to text you. I did.
Starting point is 00:10:59 I just, I don't know. I just didn't think it was a good idea. Well, think about it. If the date was so good, Jacob, you could have used it to your advantage. You could have been like a soldier before they're going off to war. I've got a new job and I have to move. This is my last night in town. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:11:13 We should do something crazy, shouldn't we? You know? Could have worked out for you. What do you think, Mallory? Would that have worked better? I, like, if, you know, if you had just told me, like, we could still talk, I guess. Like, I don't know how far you're moving. Like, I literally have no details.
Starting point is 00:11:29 Wait, so Mallory, does that mean that you would want to see him again? Yeah, even though he's going off to war. Maybe you should see him again before he leaves town. Yeah. I mean, now that I kind of understand the situation, yeah, I think, like, I would be open to still talking to him while he's, when him when he moves and like depending on how far it is. All right. Well, Jacob, would you like to go on another date with Mallory? We'll pay for it.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Yeah. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I really had. I did have a really good time, Mallory, and I didn't. It wasn't personal and it wasn't totally thought out. So I would definitely be open to it. Oh, yeah. Now you guys could be open to it. We should go out again. Now you guys could be pen pals.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Oh, yay. Well, congratulations, Mallory and Jacob. We did it. Now get off the phone and text her and apologize real quick. The Jubal Show on demand. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric. Well, the election is in the homestretch, right in time for a new season of
