A listener named Jeff is on the phone for a first date follow-up today. And he's super excited because apparently he might have a shot with his high school sweat heart. Sweat heart?
Starting point is 00:02:00 I think he misspelled the word sweetheart and it says sweat heart in his email. But Jeff apparently might have a shot at his high school sweat heart. What's up, Jeff? I actually didn't proofread. I must have been so excited I missed a letter or two, but sweat heart wasn't the intent. I like sweat heart better, so tell us about this
Starting point is 00:02:18 sweat heart. Her name's Lisa, right? Yeah, Lisa with the sweatiest of hearts. I have had a, uh, crush, uh, like we never dated in high school, but I always crushed real, real, real hard on her. And I actually ran into her at the bar and I was like, Hey, a little liquid courage. Let me go up to her. And I just basically said, oh, hey, long time no see. How you been?
Starting point is 00:02:47 You know, I know this sounds crazy, but, you know, back in high school, I had the hugest crush on you. I bet she loved that line. She didn't give me the stink eye, you know. She laughed. I was like, oh, that's so sweet. Did she remember you? That is.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean, yeah, we didn't have, like, the biggest graduating class or anything. So, I mean, and it's not like we were in marching band next to each other. But we definitely knew who each other were. Okay, well, that's got to be exciting. How long has it been since high school? Oh, geez, Louise, it's got to be at least eight years now. I was going to say, I hope it's not like a year. Cause you just said, geez, Louise,
Starting point is 00:03:25 I'm trying not to cuss on the radio. I'm trying to keep y'all friendly. All right. So it's been a while though, since high school. Yeah. Yeah. So I was like,
Starting point is 00:03:36 Hey, is it cool? You know, if I can get your number, I'd like to just, you know, see if you want to go on a date sometime. And,
Starting point is 00:03:42 uh, she was like, Oh, well, how about, you know, you take, I take your phone and put in my number, you know, just, I don't want to, you know, I hope no offense, but, you know, a lot of times it's kind of creepy for guys just, you know, giving my number out there. Oh, no, no, no, no, that's cool, that's cool, it's cool.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Here, you can totally take my phone and put your number in my condo, or, you know, however you want to play it. She put her number in your phone and... Yeah, so I put your number in my condo or, you know, however you want to play it. She put her number in your phone and. Yeah. So I put my number on her phone and then it's just like dust in the wind. Having her nothing. Nothing at all.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Yeah. So that's why I guess I'm calling in the troops, calling in the reinforcements to see if we can. Do you follow her on social media at all? I mean I'm not no stalker or nothing but I'm sure we're friends on Facebook. You know you're friends on Facebook. Come on. But like I said I mean I'm a
Starting point is 00:04:33 I've got Instagram and Facebook but I mean I don't by any means like troll social media. I ain't got TikTok or anything like that. And she hasn't posted any long rant about how she met some weird creepy guy named Jeff that she went to high school with out at the bar on Facebook or anything like that. All right. And she hasn't posted any long rant about how she met some weird creepy guy named Jeff that she went to high school
Starting point is 00:04:47 with out at the bar on Facebook or anything like that. I feel like I might have been tagged in one of those if she did. All right. Maybe she has a boyfriend. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Oh, let's hope not. Maybe she was drunk and she's like, yeah, let's get together. And then she woke up the next morning and was like, oh, that was a bad idea.
Starting point is 00:05:01 And her boyfriend was like, who's this Jeff guy? Right. And then you got a direct message on Instagram from him saying, back off. Did that happen? You know, like, I would not be offended if she has a boyfriend,
Starting point is 00:05:14 and her way to defuse the situation was just to put, you know, her number in my phone. I totally respect the fact that she's in a relationship, for sure, but I'm also just kind of wondering why there's no conversation past the one we had at the bar, especially since she changed numbers, you know? Did she seem romantically interested
Starting point is 00:05:34 or was it more like a friend thing? Oh, I mean, you know, the way her eyes just looked at me like it was a Disney movie and, you know, we danced. I mean, it is weird, though, that she would want your number and say she'd want to go out again or whatever and not get back to you. So we'll play a song, come back, and then call her and get your first date follow-up, right? Yeah, sounds like a plan. All right, sweet. We'll do it next.
Starting point is 00:05:58 It's the Jubal Show. In the middle of your first date follow-up, if you're just joining us, Jeff is on the phone. And Jeff might have met the one that got away and then let her get away again. Because he's not going to get a call back from Lisa. They went to high school together and Jeff always had a crush on Lisa.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And the other day I guess he saw her out at a bar and then he walked up to her and said, hey do you remember me from hike school? Hike school? You used to wear my letter man's jacket. And I wore your cheerleading skirt. Remember that? Anyway, they bonded.
Starting point is 00:06:34 He said that he told her that they went to high school together and he had a crush on her. And she apparently liked that and asked for his number. And now she's not getting back to him for whatever reason. So he's very confused. Really weird. All right, Jeff, are you about ready to call her? Yeah. I mean, I'm just hopeful that I didn't do anything weird or creepy. You know?
Starting point is 00:06:51 Yeah, we hope that too. Yeah. All right. Well, I'm going to dial her number right now. Here we go. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Lisa, please? This is her. Who's this?
Starting point is 00:07:16 Lisa, how are you? My name is Jubal. My name is Alex Fresh. My name is English Evan. And this is a radio show called The Jubal Show. Have you heard of The Jubal Show? Okay. I mean, yeah, I have heard of your show, but why? Did I win something?
Starting point is 00:07:34 You did not. We do a segment on our show called The First Date Follow-Up. It's where if you go out on a date with someone and then end up not calling them back, they can email us to call you and ask what happened. And we got an email from a high school sweat heart of yours. I think you have the wrong person because I can, without, you know, blasting myself on the radio, I definitely have not gone on any first dates as of late. Well, all right. Yeah, I guess I could say that makes sense because I don't think this was really a date.
Starting point is 00:08:04 It wasn't official. Yeah, it wasn't like an official date, but you did meet a high school sweetheart out at a bar the other day. His name is Jeff. Does that ring a bell? Yeah. Oh, God. Yeah. Wow, you sound very excited about Jeff.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Jeff emailed us because he says That he saw you out at the bar the other day Recognized you from high school and then he went up to you And he professed how much he loved you In high school I don't know if he said loved but Told you that he liked you in high school and always wanted to go out with you And then he said that you Actually asked for his number
Starting point is 00:08:38 Um okay This is where men just totally get their wrong Oh god They just can't take it Okay, this is where men just totally get their wrongs. Oh, God. They just can't take it. Okay, first of all, he's a super nice guy. Definitely remember him from high school. We definitely had an exchange.
Starting point is 00:08:55 But there was no confession. So then why did you give him your number? Okay, because actually in high school, my best friend, who happens to be single right now always had a crush on him oh no and so i was i thought it was just a friendly exchange there was no flirtation on my behalf um so you know and then I went to like give him my number and I guess, I don't know, I kind of felt him get a little excited about that. And I got kind of put off towards the end of our little meeting. And so he's been calling me and...
Starting point is 00:09:37 Can you see how that's a little bit confusing though, giving him the number and not saying, hey, my friend's single? Well, it was really loud in the barn. I didn't want to get into all of that. So I thought he could just, I was kind of on my way out. And I thought he could just call me after. And to be honest, I kind of like, I'm that overprotective friend that I kind of wanted to hang out with him first because it's been like, you know, almost 10 years since high school,
Starting point is 00:10:02 to be honest with you guys. And like, who knows what he's gotten into into so I'm trying to be wing woman but I'm trying to be good friend at the same time and I guess he got a little excited and then he kept calling me so now it's super weird and I definitely don't want to hook him up with my friend knowing that he likes me okay so did you did you actually end up talking to the friend or no to your friend? No. Cause then he was like harassing me. He was calling me, like texting me. Like it was super weird. How many times did he call you and text you?
Starting point is 00:10:41 Oh God. Um, one, a few times were like late night. One time was like 6am. I'm like, bro, I'm like, what do you think I'm doing right now? Yeah. That's too much. Yeah. And then he texted me a few times like when are we gonna get together i don't think that's harassment though is it i know how it is i'm like there's there's been guys i won't respond to when i was single um yeah it's just not fun he's really nice but if this was off putting like it's just too much i mean maybe he just was so into you because he had a crush on you in high school and he was super excited about that. You know? I mean,
Starting point is 00:11:10 I know that now. Well, if you know that now, then you want to talk to him because he's actually on the line listening and would like to talk to you. Wait. He's been listening this entire call? Yep. Jeff? Yeah. Well, I guess,
Starting point is 00:11:27 Lisa, I'm sorry that I blew up your phone so much. I guess I was a little liquid courage from the bar. Man, I'm really,
Starting point is 00:11:39 I guess I'm more embarrassed now than I was about coming up out of the blue saying I had a crush on you. Yeah, and you didn't really say that, though. You didn't really tell me you had a crush on me. So, I mean, I know that now, but Jenna always had a crush on you.
Starting point is 00:11:58 And she really, really likes you. So that's why I wanted your number. No, no, no. I see what you're saying there, but what I'm telling you is I came up and asked you for your number because I was, since high school, interested in you, so I guess I'm a little confused that you would do the old bait and switch and, I guess, try to hook me up with Jenna when I was trying to at least take you out on a date.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Do you remember Jenna, who she's talking about, from high school? I do, but it's not... I had a crush on Lisa because... I think he's saying that he likes you and not your friends. Yeah, I like your friends and Jenna, but I definitely am more attracted to you than Jenna. Well, Lisa, I don't think he's interested in taking Jenna out on a date. So I will ask you, would you like to go out on a date with Jeff?
Starting point is 00:13:01 We'll pay for it. I mean, this is going to sound crazy, but I'm kind of down now. What? Whoa. So you'll go out with Jeff on a date, Jeff, we'll pay for it. I mean, this is going to sound crazy, but like I'm kind of down now. What? Whoa. So you'll go out with Jeff on a date, an official date? Yeah, I feel bad that this is such a big misunderstanding and like I'm open to just getting to know you better in general. Shook.
Starting point is 00:13:19 That's exciting. Yeah. Wow. Well, Lisa, thank you so much. And I promise I will not call you nonstop. You'll get one text and then I'll wait for a response. That'll be the way I'm going to operate. And how long will you wait for the response, though?
Starting point is 00:13:35 Hey, man, if the response comes, I know we're on for putt-putt golf. If the response don't come, stay lovey. That means 10 minutes. I'll wait 10 minutes. I'll be like, hey, just checking. Is my phone working? All right. Well, congratulations, you guys.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Have fun. Thank you guys so much. The Jubal Show on demand. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric.
