Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric. Well, the election is in the homestretch, right in time
for a new season of my podcast, Next Question. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's,
to help me out, like Ezra Klein, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also going to have
some fun, thanks to some of my friends like Samantha Bee and Charlemagne the God. We're
going to take some viewer questions as well.
I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about?
Check out our new season of Next Question with me, Katie Couric,

So that's why we created The Big Take from Bloomberg Podcasts, to give you the context you need to make sense of it all.

Four years ago, I met this great girl, Abby, dating for a
couple months. It was great, but I got transferred for work. I never told her. I ghosted her and I
want to call her. Apologize. It should be my Valentine this year. We're calling you today
because somebody would like to say hi to you. Go ahead, sir. Hi, Abby. Liam? Yes, it is.
Yes? What is this?
After four years, what is this?
Well, um, my heart
breaks when I get at you.
I want to show you how I changed
and I'm just asking for one date
just to show you how sorry
I am and how much I changed
and we can talk about this. You know what?
I can go out tonight if you want.
What?
Really?
You will go out with him again?
Yeah.
Awesome.
Will you guys check in with us tomorrow to tell us about your date, please?
Yeah.
Definitely.
I guess I'll unblock your number, and you can text me, and we'll figure it out.
All right.
Amazing, amazing, amazing.
Okay, and we'll talk to you guys the same time tomorrow to get an update on how it went.
It's going to go great.
I know it.
Aw.
Yeah, we'll see.
I mean, we've got a lot of talking to do.
Oh, I know, I know.
I'm going to be ready.
That's a clip from yesterday's first date follow-up.
And Liam is actually on the phone right now because they had their Valentine's date last night, I guess.
Yeah, something like that.
I'm really kind of anxious to see what happened.
Liam.
Hey. Oh, it doesn't sound like
your date went well. What happened?
She f***ing ghosted me.
What? Stop it.
Are you serious?
I don't know. I don't understand the mind game.
Like,
we had planned.
She texted me.
You know, she unblocked me. So, she texted me a great, you know, happy hour dinner spot.
And it sounded so much fun.
So, I get there.
She's not there.
And I wait 40 minutes.
And I'm texting her. 40 minutes? Nothing. We were texting back and forth. And it was so great. It
was like, she was so flirty. We, you know, I mean, even up to
like, right before I was leaving, she texted me like, Oh,
I'm getting ready. I got this cutest dress. I think you'll
like she's like, actually, I wear it on one of our dates four
years ago. So let's see if you remember what day like, you
know, she's really flirty.
And she said,
did you leave yet?
I said,
I'm about to.
And she's like,
oh yeah, me too.
Can't wait to see you.
Hearts,
all these emoji kisses,
you know?
And then I get to the restaurant and she's,
that is nowhere to be found.
I check like social media and I'm,
I'm reblocked.
I'm like,
so I can't get in contact with her.
I don't know why.
I don't understand what the game is.
I don't understand the getting back ghosting me.
What does that serve? What purpose does that serve?
Wow.
I got there like an idiot.
I don't know. Did you even block your phone number?
It's hard to know, right?
When we were texting each other,
I said,
can we reconnect on Instagram?, I said, like, yo, can we, like, reconnect on, you know, Instagram?
And she's like, yeah, yeah.
She unblocked me.
So I liked a couple of her pictures, you know, because I haven't seen her in four years.
So I kind of scroll and check, you know.
And then, so I know she unblocked me.
And then I can't find her profile anywhere.
That is weird.
Wow.
I mean, so it's not like she's missing.
I mean, her Instagram's gone.
Like, that was intentional.
Yeah.
Talk about it in reverse.
I mean, if you know her Instagram handle, look her up.
See if she's still on.
If you know her handle, like, let me know.
Well, let's try to call her.
Yeah, that's even better.
Okay.
So we'll play this on, come back, and then we'll call her.
And I guess you can get your actual first aid follow-up next.
Yeah.
Sounds good.
Okay.
I'm sorry, man.
We'll call her right after this, okay?
Hey, everyone.
It's Katie Couric.
Well, the election is in the homestretch, and I'm exhausted.
But turns out the end is near, right in time for a new season of my podcast, Next Question.
This podcast is for people like me who need a little perspective and insight.
I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like Ezra Klein, Van Jones, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon.
But we're also going to have some fun, even though these days fun and politics seems
like an oxymoron. But we'll do that thanks to some of my friends like Samantha Bee, Roy Wood Jr.,
and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well. I mean,
isn't that what democracy is all about? Power to the podcast for the people. So whether you're
obsessed with the news or just trying to figure out what's going on,
this season of Next Question is for you.
Check out our new season of Next Question with me,

If you're just joining us for today's First Date Follow-Up,
we talked to Liam yesterday for a First Date Follow-Up.
He actually ghosted this girl named Abby four years ago
because he moved out of town.
They were dating for a couple months, and he just bounced.
And now that he's back, he wanted to ask her
if she would go out and be his valentine. So we called her, and he just bounced. And now that he's back, he wanted to ask her if she would go out and be his Valentine.
So we called her and he was able to explain himself.
At first, she was not very interested in even talking to him because he was blocked on everything.
So we actually got her to agree to go out with him last night on a date.
And Liam is on the phone right now because what happened, Liam?
She ghosted me.
She never showed up.
She didn't showed up.
She didn't show up.
I mean,
no, I was there for almost an hour
and nothing.
No text, nothing.
All right.
Blocked me again
on everything.
Maybe somebody
got into her head.
Ooh.
You know?
Yeah.
I don't know if this is
mind games or whatever,
but I want to get
to the bottom of this
because it's...
I mean,
you did bounce on her
four years ago
after a couple months.
Yeah, but I apologize.
She's trying to take ownership for his mistakes.
Alright, man.
Call her and see if she'll
tell us what happened, okay?
Yes, please.
Okay, here we go.
Hello?
Hey, Abby. Hey hey how are you oh my gosh is this a jubile show yes it is hi abby um hi how are you good so we're calling to check in about your date last night with liam
how'd it go oh uh well you know it didn't go it didn't go it didn't go what happened i was well
it's really caught off guard the other day um when you called and i really didn't know what to think
i i thought about it and i really remembered you know the original dates that we had four years
ago we had really good time right you guys were dating for a couple months. And so. Yeah. Yeah. And he ghosted me
and I was really sad. Yeah. And, you know, I thought about it and like about an hour before
our date, I, I decided to make him feel like I did four years ago. Huh? Okay. Yeah. I mean,
obviously we did talk to Liam before we called you. Yeah. Well, you know, I was planning on texting him after a few days,
but he ghosted me four years ago without saying a word.
And I,
I don't know.
I just couldn't go out with him again and give him another shot without,
you know,
making him work for it.
Like,
this is so messed up.
I understand,
you know,
what happened.
I ghosted you and you're trying to get me back, but it's pretty messed up.
Like, I called, you know, apologized.
I manned up.
I just don't understand.
Like, you were texting me.
Is this like a game?
Like, did you, what did you, like, please tell me why did you go and just get me back?
It's, it sucks.
It sounds like a game.
Yeah, no, I get it.
It does suck.
And I, I, and I already apologized to you.
So I don't understand why you have to, like, stab me in the back or the stomach or whatever, you know, after I apologized.
Like, I said I'm sorry.
And, you know, Abby, when you said you were going to go on another date with me, I was so excited.
Like, I thought about you for the last four years.
I was super excited. Like I thought about you almost every day for four years and I wanted to rekindle this relationship that we had and you
know, it was amazing. And, you know, just to like sideline me and just to get me back is so
really hurtful. And I, I literally skipped into the restaurant. Like I was, you know,
I was one second away from just whistling. This is just hurtful.
Yeah, it is hurtful.
I just wanted you to understand how much it sucks to get ghosted by someone that you are excited to see.
You know what?
I'm talking.
It sucks to get ghosted by someone that you are excited to see.
So I wanted you to understand that.
And if you really want to see me again,
I felt like you really had to want to want it and you want to work for it. It's kind of in your court now. Abby, I do want to see you. Like I want, I really want to make this work.
You're so special to me. And I understand you just got, you know, let's forget about this ghosting
stuff. Like I ghosted you, you got me back, like let's move on to the ghosting. And I really just want to go on a date with you to show you I changed.
I am the right person for you.
And I know that you said you're busy on Valentine's Day, and I get it.
I don't want to overstep, but I do want to see you.
And I want to go on a date this weekend.
I'm up for anything, as long as we both show up.
And even though I won't see you on Valentine's Day, you know, as long as we both show up and like, you know, even though I
won't see you on Valentine's Day, you're still my Valentine.
So if you want to, I could wait a couple of days to see you and you could still be my
Valentine's Day.
I literally waited four years because every day I'm with you would be like Valentine's
Day to me.
So actually, Liam, no, I don't have
any friends tonight.
I kind of wanted to see what you
would do if you would try and
get in touch with me and see
if it was important
enough to you.
So I made reservations for us
for tonight, just in case.
Really?
Really? Are you serious? This is not a joke, right?
You're not supposed to be again and on that thing.
You can't take it on the go.
This is not a joke, and I will show up
but I'm totally down.
I'm trying to test you.
I'm so good.
You know what, I'm talking.
I'm talking.
Excitement, I can feel it.
Go ahead.
Okay, just don't interrupt me this time okay i won't so um okay you let me talk okay i know i just i'm so excited okay go sorry
i can't keep it in i just want to i just want to skip again
okay well i guess i'll just uh i'll text you where I'll be and when, and I'll see you tonight.
I'll be your Valentine this year.
Oh, my God.
I'm like, I can't even talk.
I'm, like, so excited.
If this is so serious, I'm so down.
This is like, oh, thank God you are my Valentine.
Oh, my God, I'm so excited.
I'm speechless.
Oh, my God. Have fun, you. I'm speechless. Oh, my God.
Have fun, you guys.
I can't wait to see you. I can't wait to see you.
I'm looking forward to that.
All right.
Unblock me and text me.
