Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:21 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the iHeart. radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. 2%. That's the number of people who take the stairs when there is also an escalator available. I'm Michael Easter. I'm on my podcast, 2%. I break down the signs of mental toughness, fitness, and building resilience in our strange modern world. Put yourself through some hardships and you will come out on the other side a happier, more fulfilled, healthier person.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Listen to 2%. That's TWO% on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My mother-in-law spent years sabotaging our relationship until karma made her pay for it. All right, Sophia, tell me about how we started this story. She moved in for two weeks, lasted five days, left a mess, and then pressed her ear against their bedroom door and burst in screaming. When kicked out to a hotel, she called her son-in-law's workplace, pretending his partner had been rushed to the hospital.
Starting point is 00:01:28 hospital by ambulance. She faked a medical emergency. And spoiler, that was just the beginning. To find out how it ends, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the Iheart radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the look back at it podcast. From 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84's big to me.
Starting point is 00:01:45 I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:10 First date follow-up. Liam is on the phone today for a first date follow-up and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Zoe. So in a few minutes, we're going to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him a second date. But first, Liam, why do you think you're getting ghosted? Because my crazy ex won't stop screwing me over. Um, okay. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:32 So you think your ex is the reason that you're getting ghosted? Yoics. Yeah. Like, the date was going good, but we were at a restaurant and then my ex walked in. Oh. She didn't see me and I tried not to pay attention to it. Okay. You know, that she was there.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Mm-hmm. But, you know, I do think I was preoccupied, so might have seemed like I wasn't listening to her. I think it was a bit obvious because at one point she asked if I was okay. And then I responded that I was fine. So your date? So your date was trying to check in to make sure that you were
Starting point is 00:03:06 okay. She didn't realize that your ex had walked in. Yeah, no, she was being really nice about it and everything. I guess I was a little weirded out by the fact that she was there. Right. So you feel like you were just kind of preoccupied and not really like
Starting point is 00:03:22 listening to her and being like a good date because you were just thinking about your ex. Oh. Yeah, I was really distracted by it. And then when I responded that I was fine, but that my ex was there, I don't know why, but I just started saying that and then I started crying. Oh, well, that's right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:45 That'd be it. Yeah, that is hard. Okay, so. So. Yeah, that would be awkward if I started crying over my ex. on a first date. It would make me feel like you're still into your eyes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Yeah. So I think she thinks that exactly that. And, you know, I'm not over. And, you know, I don't know why I started crying. Just kind of happened. And she was really nice. But, you know, if I was her, I'd definitely be ghosting me. I just wanted to be able to explain and see if I could maybe go out with her again.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Because I honestly think she's awesome. Okay. Oh, so you want to try to recover. Yeah. All right. Well, Liam is on the phone, and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Zoe. So we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him a second date. But first, Liam, why don't you refresh our memory about why you think you're getting ghosted?
Starting point is 00:04:40 I really think it's because my ex won't stop screwing me over. And, you know, the date was going good. And I kind of got preoccupied after she walked in. I didn't realize that, you know, I was going to feel a little bit. particular way and she asked if I was okay but when I responded that I was fine my ex was there I started crying I guess she thinks I'm not over or something yeah you know I definitely understand but I'd really like to go out with her again that would all be very awkward so we'll see if we can help you out okay I'm gonna dial her phone number he sounds so sweet yeah right now here we go
Starting point is 00:05:15 hello hi man speak to Zoe please this is me hi Zoe how are you this is a radio show it's called the Jubal show Joey, I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria. And my name is Jubal. What's up? Hello. Hi. Have you ever heard of the show before? No, sorry. That's all right. Yeah, that's all right. You haven't heard of it now.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Yeah. I'm sorry I'm not a radio person. That's all good. It's a podcast. We do a segment on the show that's called your first date follow-up. So that's where if you go out on a date with somebody and then you end up ghosting them, that person can email us to get you on the phone. find out why you're getting ghosted. So we got an email about you from somebody.
Starting point is 00:06:03 That's why we're talking. Yeah. His name is Liam. And he's wondering why you're ghosting him. Would you mind telling us? He's a psycho. Whoa. What makes me say that?
Starting point is 00:06:19 He's a psycho. He likes. Yeah. So he seemed, you know, nice at first. Uh-huh. Like we talked to him and he sounded He sounded nice So sweet
Starting point is 00:06:32 I didn't get psycho vibes from him Mm-mm Yeah yeah no he seems nice But yeah There was just a few things that he said That like I just I couldn't shake Okay
Starting point is 00:06:46 Like what I'm telling us what that was Okay So we were you know talking Obviously making small talk And getting to know each other And he you know I told him that my dad had just gotten laid off. Layed off, okay.
Starting point is 00:07:03 And he responded by saying, that's so cool, good for him. Huh. So your dad getting laid off? That would be very uncomfortable. Yeah. Yeah, my dad's getting laid off. Cool, good for him. That is a weird response to that.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Yeah. So, you know, I'm sitting there like, huh, all right. So, like, we just, you know, moved on to, like, I don't know, talking about something else. And then, like, out of nowhere, he just said, like, I hope your dad's not good because I want to beat him. Wait, what? What? He wants. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:47 I literally have, like, no idea why he would want to, like, beat up my dad. Like. What the heck? Yeah, so I'm just like not sure, you know, what's happening. Even if he has a logical explanation. I mean, I don't know what he could say that won't. I mean, like that's pretty messed up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Well, let's ask him because Liam is actually on the phone listening and wants to talk to you. Yeah. Hello? Hello? Zoe? Zoe? Hello? You acted like a complete psycho.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Like, who says that you're glad my dad got laid off from his job and that you want to beat him up? Ask your question. No, I am so, so sorry about that. Why would you say that, Liam? Honestly, I just, I was really distracted when my. ex showed up and I was not being present at all, especially just random times throughout the conversation. Why would you rejoice over my dad getting laid off and like want to beat him up?
Starting point is 00:09:13 I don't, I don't understand where that would come into play. What do you have against her dad? No. When I was distracted and everything, and when you said that your dad got laid off, I thought that you had said that your dad plays golf. And so I responded saying, which is true. Logical explanation.
Starting point is 00:09:36 But how? He wasn't paying attention because he was distracted. I've been in this situation. That's why. Are you serious? No, I just, I misheard some words. And, like, you know, I really liked you. And I was thinking how cool it would be if I got to meet your dad and, you know,
Starting point is 00:09:54 go play golf with him at some point. And so that's what I meant when. I said that I would beat him. I wanted to beat him at golf. I didn't want to beat him like with my fists or anything. Wow. I'm really, really sorry. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:12 I mean, that's a first for me. I guess I'm glad that you didn't want to beat my dad. After the day, I even call my dad on the way home to tell him that when he needs. to watch out for you because this guy's a little psycho and trying to fight my dad. Wow. Well, Zoe, would you like to go out with Liam again now that you know he doesn't want to assault your father? We'll pay for it. I mean, yeah, I'll give him another chance, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Yes, thank you very much. I really do appreciate it. I hate making bad first impressions. Great. Now I have to call my dad and tell him that I'm going out with the psycho again. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
