We had to reach out to the homie, Jamil Hill, because she's going to keep it a century.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Because in America, what sells in politics are narratives and storylines. It's like we treat politics like we treat sports, which is part of the reason why we're in the situation we're in right now. Listen to The Hub Politics with Prop Podcasts on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Bridget Armstrong, host of the new podcast, The Curse of America's Next Top Model. I've been investigating the real story behind that iconic show. I ended up having anorexia issues, bulimia issues,
Starting point is 00:01:54 by talking to the models, the producers, and the people who profited from it all. We basically sold our souls, and they got rich. If you were so rooting for her and saw her drowning, what did you help her? Listen to the curse of America's Next Top Model on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:14 First date of follow-up, powered by the advocates injury attorneys, online at Advocateslaw.com. Matthew is on the phone today for a first-day follow-up, He's getting ghosted by a woman named Selina. So in a few minutes, we're going to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another day. But first, Matthew, how long has it been since you heard from Selena?
Starting point is 00:02:34 About a week. Okay. Have you been hitting her up to try to get a hold of her? I heard her up to ask her where day was going about a week ago. She's just so busy. I kind of checked it after that one more time for the situation she had some availability coming up. I should have responded. and I'm not going to like keep picking in a new response, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:02:55 It can get creepy real quick with that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not trying to do that. I also crush your soul the more times you don't get responded to. Okay, well, how is the date, though? It must have been great if you want to get a hold of her. Yeah, I mean, I thought it went great. We met at work.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I work in the IT department. Oh, I did. Selena is an executive. I helped throw out with some computer issues at work. um we had some of chemistry i felt like pretty obvious right from the get-go um we worked up a nerve to ask her out she seemed like she was into it she told me she liked a lemon drop martini so i know it's a perfect spot um i took her to a really cool spot it's got like an old hollywood vibe um which i always always liked a lot um we had some drinks i did not have a lemon
Starting point is 00:03:45 drop i had a dry martini but uh but she had some some, couldn't have been loving everything. We talked about dreams, future, stuff like that, kind of in a lighthearted way. I mean, it felt really good. And I was, I was really excited. We had a pretty intensive makeout session in the dark corner. We were, I mean, it felt like, you know, kids in school. I mean, a lot of that kind of giggly energy.
Starting point is 00:04:10 And so that we have the date split up. That was pretty much it. I thought it looked really good. I was a little bit to get hold of her. I'd like to understand, you know, I've honestly had a question on her for a while. So I was pretty broke up that she, you know, doesn't seem to be willing to respond, at least.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Anything happened on the date that you think could be a reason she's not calling you back? I mean, the only thing I can think of is I actually did just get let go from the job that we work together. So she said at the end of the date, you know, see it work. And I had to be like, I didn't want to be dishonest. so I told her that I actually, you know, wasn't working there anymore, which I kind of thought would actually be a good thing because it removes the possibility of, like, you know, office politics and that sort of thing,
Starting point is 00:04:56 it takes the pressure off of that. That's really the only thing I could think of that might have gone wrong with it, unless I was just totally misread, you know, the signals, I guess, which is always the possibility, but this is one of the thing I could think of is that I got let go. Does she feel like kind of a shallow person that would be like, I am not dating her guy who's unemployed, I mean, maybe.
Starting point is 00:05:19 I didn't get that vibe from her at all. I mean, she seemed pretty down to earth. And, like, you know, I mean, that strikes me as just being kind of short-sighted. So she didn't strike me that way at all. But, I mean, I guess it's a possibility. Yeah. Okay. Did you guys kiss and stuff at the end?
Starting point is 00:05:35 They made out in the dark. I mean, we were making out, you know, we made out the bar. At the very end, I said that, no. But, yeah, maybe that was a warning sign or some sort. Did you guys talk about? I'm not like final because goodbye. We definitely talked about seeing each other again. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Yeah. I mean, that was on the table for sure. Okay, well, we'll see if we can figure it out for you. Then we'll play a song, come back, and call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you and maybe get you another date, okay? Okay, sounds good. All right, cool. We'll play a song, come back, and get your first day follow up next. I'm Jorge Ramos.
Starting point is 00:06:08 And I'm Paola Ramos. Together we're launching The Moment, a new podcast about what it means to live through a time as uncertain as this one. We sit down with politicians. I would be the first immigrant mayor in generations, but 40% of New Yorkers were born outside of this country. Artists and activists, I mean, do you ever feel demoralized? I might personally lose hope. This individual might lose the faith.
Starting point is 00:06:33 But there's an institution that doesn't lose faith. And that's what I believe in. To bring you depth and analysis from a unique Latino perspective. There's not a single day that Paola and I don't call or text each other, sharing news and thoughts about what's happening in the country. This new podcast will be a way to make that ongoing intergenerational conversation public. Listen to The Moment with Jorge Ramos and Paola Ramos as part of the MyCultura podcast network on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I started trying to get pregnant about four years ago now.
Starting point is 00:07:11 We were getting a little bit older and it just kind of felt like the window could be closing. Bloomberg and IHeart Podcasts present IVF Disrupted, the Kind Body story, a podcast about a company that promised to revolutionize fertility care. Introducing Kind Body, a new generation of women's health and fertility care. Backed by millions in venture capital and private equity, it grew like a tech startup. While Kind Body did help women start families, it also left behind a stream of disillusioned and angry. patients. You think you're finally like with the right people in the right hands and then to find out again that you're just not. Don't be fooled. By what? All the bright and shiny. Listen to IVF disrupted, the kind body story starting September 19 on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
Starting point is 00:08:05 you get your podcasts. Power struggles, shady money, drugs, violence, and broken promises. It's a freaking war zone. animal. There's no integrity. There's no loyalty. That's all gone. In the 1980s, modeling wasn't just a dream. It was a battlefield. Book, book, book, book. My deals. Let's get models in. Let's get them out. And the models themselves? They carried scars that never fully healed. Until this day, honestly, if I see a measuring tape, I freak out. The Model Wars podcast peels back the glossy cover and reveals a high-stakes game where survival meant more than beauty. Hosted by me, Vanessa Grigoriatis, this is the untold story of an industry built on ruthless ambition. Listen to Model Wars on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:09:06 If you're just joining us for today's first date, follow-up, Matthew is on the phone, and he's getting ghosted by Selena. So in a few minutes, we're going to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date. But before we do that, Matthew, why don't you refresh our memory on your date with Selena? Yeah, so my thought about it will be well. We had some chemistry from when we worked together. The date was great, good drinks, good vibe. We made out. It seemed like it was some definite intensity.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I thought things were going great. We started talking about next time, next meetings, next dates. And the one thing I could think of that went wrong is at the end, I had to tell her that I was no longer or with the company that we work at together. And that's one of my guess as to why she's beside a ghost. That's just a guest, though. All right. Are you ready for us to call her?
Starting point is 00:09:57 Sure. I'd love to have another shot. All right. Here we go, man. Hello? Hi, man. I speak to Selena, please. This is Selena.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Hey, Selena, how are you? My name is Jubal. I'm calling from a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show. Yeah, hi, Selena. The whole show's here. I'm Nina. Hi, and I'm Victoria.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Oh, my God. Hi. Hi. You listen to the show? I do. I'm a fan. This is exciting. Oh, sweet.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Thank you. Well, do you have any idea why we're calling you? I'm a little bit scared, yeah. This is a first date follow-up. So you went on a date with somebody recently and have been ghosting them, and they emailed us. Do you know who would email us about you? I have a pretty good idea, yeah. You want to take a shot at it?
Starting point is 00:10:51 Is it Matthew? Yes, it is Matthew. You are correct. Oh, no. Matthew, he emailed us, told us he really liked you, told us about your date, but he says you've been ghosting for over a week now. What happened? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Oh, man. I feel bad. I'm ghosting Matthew because he told me that he wants to live in a tree house. What? Like for his real house? Yeah, like for his real house, I think. And like he told me, we worked, I don't know if he told you, but we worked at the same company.
Starting point is 00:11:26 And he told me that, like, towards the end of the day, I said, like, oh, see you at work. And he told me that he had lost his job there, which was fine. Like, that's a, that's, yeah, I felt really bad for him that that happened. But he just had, like, he said he has no plan. And he was like, you know, I'm sure everything's, everything's going to be fine. And I, living in a tree house sounds perfect. And, like, he did say he wanted to live in, like, one of the fancy ones,
Starting point is 00:11:54 like the glamping kind of situation treehouses. But at the same time, I feel like, I mean, I definitely am not interested in living in a treehouse. And I'm looking for, like, a serious partner. And, like, at first I thought he was joking because, you know, I mean, that's just, like, a funny thing to say. But then he, like, actually went into this whole thing about his friend. and how his friend lives in a treehouse and how his friend like had saved him so much money
Starting point is 00:12:18 and he has like no more like drama and you know he's like a volunteer at different schools and he's playing music and like that's all well and good for like a you know like a burning man type like free spirit I was gonna say it sounds pretty awesome to me I'm kind of interested
Starting point is 00:12:33 but I don't think that feels stressful when it comes to like a relationship though yeah I'm like what where am I going to like plug in my blow drawer you know what I'm not sure Do they have, like, fancy tree houses? I mean, it does sound kind of cool to at least, like, see one that you could, can you live in them?
Starting point is 00:12:50 You can run power to a tree house for sure. Really? Mm-hmm. You can't look at a tree house, but, like, you can't have, like, kid, you know what I mean? I'm, like, long term, I'm like, this is going nowhere, so. But, like, can you have a shower? Yeah, you probably can. I'm pretty sure there are tree houses that have showers and stuff.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Actually, there are. I've seen them. Wow. I think you could build, like, technically, a real house just in the trees. Yeah. I don't know how big of a house. he's trying to build in the tree. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:14 But you know, that's good point, though, if you're starting to really fast forward kids, can you imagine your kids running around in a tree house? Yes. Amazing. I could. Well,
Starting point is 00:13:24 then he has to build some kind of like, what do you call it, hammock net underneath of it? Yeah. Okay. Well, thank you for being honest with us. I appreciate that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:34 And I don't know if you remember or not, Selena, but during these first eight follow-ups, the person that emailed us is on the phone. So Matthew has been listening this whole. whole time and is on the phone and wants to talk to you. Yeah. So, whoa, whoa, whoa, well, yeah, the, you told me you thought three houses were cool.
Starting point is 00:13:54 And the fact, I think, remember you saying that you always wanted to spend a night in one. So it would be like vacation for life, right? I like that. Yeah, like for vacation. I'm like, I don't want to live in a tree house, Matthew. like I want to like have an adventure in a tree house and then I want like to go back to reality like go back to my life you know I'm not right urgent to live in a tree house or even I have a plan to one that I was just sort of a something we could do I don't know it was just something like talk that's kind of a good sign though Matthew she really like fast forward to see the future with you yeah and I guess I just mean like sorry I mean it's like beyond the I'm just like you had no plan like I'm just like living at a tree house with no plan it's just like like to me, I was like, ooh, big red flag. Well, instead of I don't have a plan, I just have the means to take some time and figure
Starting point is 00:14:48 what I'm going to do next. I don't really actually have to work. I just do it because I like it. So if I'm not feeling it, I don't. But the same thing is not having a plan. Are you like, what do you mean? Like, are you like a secret billionaire or something? Like, you don't have to work?
Starting point is 00:15:06 I mean, I'm not a billionaire, but I have some money. I'm independently well be able to say. Oh. So it would probably be a very nice tree house then. Yeah, I got to say, for me, a tree house is not like what grandpa made in the backyard when you were a kid. I'm talking about like a house that's in a tree. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:28 With plumbing and showers and, you know, you could plug in your phone charger for sure. But, I mean, if you don't want that, that's fine. I don't know exactly what makes sense. Maybe you're the house for me in terms of plans, but, I mean, all I know is I definitely would like to have the opportunity to spend more time with Selena. Selina, would you like to go out with Matthew again? We'll pay for it. I mean, so you would be willing to, like, live in a house, house?
Starting point is 00:15:58 Yeah, I mean, we could, I would be willing to live in a house with not a tree in sight. And you got enough money to cut them down, it sounds like. Yeah, that's true. I mean, it sounds like you guys really like each other. There's a lot of negotiating happening here. Yeah. I mean, if that's a sticking point, that can be, that can be, that's, that's negotiable. What do you think, Salina?
Starting point is 00:16:21 One more shot? Slina, he's rich. Nina. Yeah, I wouldn't be willing to give it another shot. Yay. I think I have a different understanding of what your situation. Sweet. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Congratulations, Matthew, you got another date. Yay. Hey, Selina, I'm so glad that you're going to give another shot. You can appreciate why I wouldn't lead with money just off the top. But, yeah, I mean, three houses were just for fun. So I'm glad I'm around another shot. Thank you. Money got her back in, though.
Starting point is 00:17:01 We're not. I don't know. I'm Joubles' first date follow-up. I'm Jorge Ramos. And I'm Paola, Ramos.
