Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My mother-in-law spent years sabotaging our relationship until Karma made her pay for it. All right, Sophia, tell me about how we started this story.
Starting point is 00:01:12 She moved in for two weeks, lasted five days, left a mess, and then pressed her ear against their bedroom door and burst in screaming. When kicked out to a hotel, she called her son-in-law's workplace, pretending his partner had been rushed to the hospital by ambulance. She faked a medical emergency? And spoiler, that was just the beginning. To find out how it ends, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporal.
Starting point is 00:01:57 business sense of the Sith rule of two. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First date follow up. Nolan is on the phone today for a first date follow up and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Alice. So in a few minutes, we'll call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date.
Starting point is 00:02:19 But first, Nolan, why do you think you're getting ghosted? Because she's a sore loser. Yikes. Okay. She's a sore loser, huh? The only thing I can think of, I don't know. We met at a friend's D&D game night. We hit it right off from the start and everything and then, you know. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:39 So you play Dungeons and Dragons? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Dungeons and Dragons. Well, we went to, and it didn't end with that, but I don't know. I think I'm getting ghosted because of the game. We went to dinner and a movie afterwards. Oh, cute. Oh, that's cool. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I mean, she went to dinner and a movie with you after, so. Did you, like, beat her or something? I don't know much about Dungeons and Dragons, but... Yeah, I did. I mean, we were flirting all night. You know what I mean? Like, you know, like, I would check a room for traps, and she would be like, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:08 I'll always check a room for traps if you're about to go into it, you know what I mean? Wow, okay. Do you know what I mean? Like, you recognize this symbol? She'd be like, I recognize your symbol anywhere. Oh, you know? She was very flirty.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Okay, so that sounds very flirty. She was recognizing my symbols. Yeah. She was wrong. 120s with me. So, so. Constant back of
Starting point is 00:03:30 for a flirt fest. Uh-huh. But we were all fighting this powerful boss. And the dungeon master clearly telegraphed this boss is dangerous. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Everybody knew it was a high-stakes fight. Okay. Got it. She missed two of her attacks. Uh-oh. And then the wizard used a big spell and succeeded in saving the attack.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Okay. But then I, who was the fighter, landed solid, hits, but the boss is still standing. Oh, no, okay. So then the boss started targeting her, and he knocked her unconscious. Ah. And I didn't do anything about it, and I don't think she liked that at all.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Oh, okay. I wasn't really in a position to do anything about it, just where I was in the game. But she was like big sore loser energy that she lost this. Nolan is on the phone, and he's getting ghosted by a woman named Alice, we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date, but he's pretty sure that she's ghosting him because he didn't save her life during a Dungeons and Dragons party that they were at. And you think that that is the reason you're getting ghosted, right, Nolan? Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:04:44 That is what I think. All right. Well, hopefully you can get past it if that is the reason, but we'll see if that is. We're going to call her right now, okay? I'll be here. Here we're here. Okay, don't go anywhere. Hello?
Starting point is 00:04:59 Hi, may I speak to Alice, please? This is she. Hey, Alice, how are you? This is a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show. Hi, Alice. I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And my name is Jubal. How are you doing? Okay. Hi. Hi. Have you ever heard of the radio show before, the Jubal show? Um, not sure about that. No, but me, you know, not sure.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Oh, no worries. It's a real radio show? Yeah. The real radio show? Yes, it is. I see. We're calling you today because we do a segment on the show and it's called the first date follow-up. So that's where if you go out on a date with somebody and then you end up ghosting them,
Starting point is 00:05:37 that person can email us to get you on the phone and ask why you're ghosting. And we got an email about you. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. How embarrassing. Are you serious? Yeah, it's a guy named Nolan. He said that you guys met at a Dungeons and Dragons party and then went to the movies and stuff and he really liked you. But now you're ghosting him and he doesn't know why.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Yeah. Would you mind telling us why? He doesn't know why. It's pretty simple. Nolan is a fake nerd and I don't date fake nerds. Case closed. I can tell him that. Case closed.
Starting point is 00:06:12 What makes him a fake nerd? I don't know if he told you, but like we play, we were playing Dungeons and Dragons together. And, you know, we really hit it off. So we ended up going to the screening, a Lord of the Rings. and that's literally when the date went sour. Really? What happened at Lord of the Rings? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Well, it's not during, it's after the movie. We got into this just like, I like to say heated discussion, but I think it was a disagreement because when we were talking about the book versus the film, which one does. and my point was that the film's ending is more streamlined. Right. It's focused more, right? You get it.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Yeah, makes sense. Exactly. It's just focused more on the destruction of the ring and the immediate aftermath. Yeah. Right. Okay. Interesting. And he didn't agree with that.
Starting point is 00:07:17 And then the book, well, no, the book includes multiple endings that delve deeper into character. including scouring of the Shreyer. And no, he did not agree. I mean, come on. Okay. Everyone knows this. Okay. I found out later that he didn't even read the book.
Starting point is 00:07:39 He never actually read the book. He didn't? Spark noted it. Yeah. He spark noted it. Yeah. What's a spark note? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:46 You know what spark? Well, he was in the bathroom before the movie. It gives you like summary. For the conversation after. Oh, wow. Okay. friends told me. All right.
Starting point is 00:07:55 So hello. Yeah. Nerd exclamation point three times. Wow. Unbelievable. Dang. Three times. Well, thank you.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Unbelievable. What a waste of my time. What a waste of my time. Well, thank you for telling us, Alice. Appreciate it. I also need to let you know that Nolan is actually on the phone and wants to talk to you. Of course he is. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:08:17 He's got to hide behind a whole radio station. Oh, my God. Oh, wow. This is a little, come on. This is a little ridiculous. You're getting mad at me over something so little. And you yourself said that I had good points when we were talking. You were trying to edit, like, why is it my fault for trying to educate myself and educate yourself so that we could have a fun, engaging conversation after a three-hour movie?
Starting point is 00:08:46 You know, I read 20 pages of Spark Notes for you. Aw. Look, that's how cute. Oh, my gosh. Are you kidding me? He's a... What? You lied, basically.
Starting point is 00:09:03 I didn't lie. We were talking about information that we both had, so it wasn't a lie. Oh, my God. You totally talking out of your ass. And then, like, I had to find out from your friend that you're, like, not even, didn't even read the book. I mean, that's so lame. I did read the book. I just, you're getting angry because I just...
Starting point is 00:09:27 Because you're a fake nerd, because you didn't read the book. And you're a fake talker, too. You're fake, fake, fake, fake. Fakeophile. You're a ficofile. Alice, I know you think he's ficofile. Would you read the title of the book? That doesn't count, no, and you've got to reopen it up and read the chapters,
Starting point is 00:09:46 all the pages, all in all of them. Yeah, I think you guys got a lot of passion. And Alice, I know you think he's a facofile. Alice, would you like another date with Nolan? We'll pay for it. Uh, no thanks. I don't want to date someone who thinks watching a YouTube recap is reading. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:05 All right. Well, hurtful. Sorry, I'm not nerdy enough for you, I guess. It's a weird gatekeeping stance to take, but I can't really do anything about that, I guess. You've got the strategic death of a goblin with a head injury. You illiterate Go. Go say hi to Ghalm, okay?
Starting point is 00:10:32 Mic drop. Joubles' first date follow-up. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
