The Jubal Show
on demand.
First day follow-up.
I've never understood why vegans
get so touchy
when you take them to a steakhouse.
Seriously, there's salads there. Right?
They've got salads.
It's just the fun of being around that stuff, though.
Sure, they have steak salads and chicken salad.
They have vegetable salads.
But the point is, they get touchy when you take them to a steakhouse.
They do.
Because there's plenty of vegan restaurants that you could take them to.
And Mitch is on the phone for a first date follow-up today,
and he thinks that maybe that's the reason that his date was ruined.
We'll get to that in just a second.
But first of all, Mitch, thanks for emailing us.
How long has it been since your date?
It's been about a week.
And how many times have you reached out to Kim?
Since we went on the date?
I mean, a few times, probably.
Nothing crazy.
Okay.
You're going to have to explain the whole steakhouse dilemma.
You took her to a steakhouse and she's a vegan. Yeah. You know, it's, there were a lot of things that went wrong on this date, to be
honest. Okay. Well, let's start at the beginning then. Start at mistake number one. I mean,
I had to reschedule the thing a couple of times just because I've been having trouble getting a
babysitter. Uh, and it's just been kind of a nightmare. How many kids do you have?
Just one.
Okay.
So did you have to reschedule a bunch before your date?
I had to reschedule two times.
So did she seem annoyed that you had to reschedule a couple times?
Yeah, you know, I would be annoyed if someone canceled on me a couple of times.
So I can understand why she might have been a little annoyed with it,
and she kind of gave me that vibe.
Okay, so you got a vibe that she was annoyed that you canceled twice,
but you guys still ended up going out, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We went out, and I mean, it seemed like it was all kind of water under the bridge after that.
Okay, so you guys vibed it out.
After that, what did you guys do for your date?
Well, I took her to a steakhouse, and that was mistake number two.
Okay.
Clearly. All right, so she's a vegan, you said in your email, and you took her to a steakhouse. And that was mistake number two. Okay.
Clearly.
So she's a vegan, you said in your email,
and you took her to a steakhouse.
Did you not find that out beforehand?
Usually, within five seconds of meeting a vegan,
they tell you they're a vegan.
So I don't know how you didn't know that.
Yeah, you know, I just, I booked the place and I just didn't really think about it.
I kind of forgot, honestly.
Okay.
Yeah, so that's mistake number three, not being a good listener.
Mr. Forgetful.
Yeah.
All right, so you canceled twice.
You think that might have been annoying.
You took her to a steakhouse because you were not listening to her well enough to know that she was a vegan.
And you're surprised you're not getting a call back.
How did the date end?
She parked her car at my place, and we drove over together.
So we just drove back, and she got in her car, and she went out.
Did you get a kiss or a hug or anything?
Yeah, I mean, we hugged.
Okay.
Nice little hug.
All right.
And that's the last you heard from her?
Yeah, I mean, she had come in for just a second and then she left
and I've reached out
a few times
and haven't heard her since.
Okay, all right.
Well, we got a lot of options
so we'll see if we can figure out
why she's not calling you back.
Thank you.
There's a lot to work with there.
And we will try
to get you another date.
Yes, please.
You know,
the date itself,
like,
we really vibed
and I thought
we really connected
and I just,
I'm really hoping we can make something happen here because I think it might we really connected. And I just, I'm really hoping
we can make something happen here because I think it might be something special. And I haven't felt
this way on a first date with someone in a long time. All right, cool. Well, we'll see if we can
get you another date then. And we'll see which one of your mistakes is the thing that put her
over the top. All right, man. We'll play a song, come back and then call her and get your first
date follow up. Okay, thank you. Yeah, we'll do it next. It's the Jubal Show.
In the middle of your first date follow-up, and if you're just joining us, Mitch is on the phone,
and you went on a date with a woman named Kim.
That's correct.
And apparently there were a lot of mistakes.
The first mistake was he had to reschedule the date a couple times because he couldn't find a babysitter for his kid.
And then he wasn't listening really well enough to know that she was a vegan when she had told him that.
So he took her to a steakhouse, not necessarily the best spot for a vegan.
She seemed maybe a little bit annoyed about that.
And at the end of his date, he just got a hug and then she was gone and she hasn't talked to him since.
And you said you really felt a connection with her like you haven't felt in a long time, right?
Yeah, I thought it was something special, honestly.
All right, so we're going to call it right now, okay, Mitch?
Sounds good.
All right, here we go.
Hello?
Hi, is this Kim?
Hello, yes, this is her.
Hello, Kim.
How are you?
This is The Jubal Show.
My name's Jubal.
My name is Alex.
My name is English Evan.
And it's a radio show, and it's called The Jubal Show.
Okay, how can I help you?
We're calling you today because we do a segment on our show called The First Date Follow-Up.
It's where if you go out on a date with someone and then end up ghosting them,
they can email us
to get you on the phone and ask what happened.
Okay.
Do you know who we might be
referring to?
Maybe Mitch.
Who is it, Mitch? It is Mitch.
And you guys went on a date to a
steakhouse and you haven't called him back
since. Right.
And he wants to know why. Is it because he took you to a steakhouse and you're a vegan? back since right he wants to know why is it because he took
you to steakhouse and you're a vegan we heard that's a bit of a no-no he told us that you're
sure that maybe that featured maybe that was a part of it but i guess i just this is so weird
but um but yeah i guess i just kind of he isn't who I maybe thought he was. I had some idea of what he was as a person.
And I just, I feel like maybe throughout the date,
that just kind of was dispelled a little bit for me.
This sounds deeper than just going to a steakhouse when you're a vegan.
This sounds way deep.
Yeah.
Again, the steakhouse wasn't a great start, but no, that wasn't.
I'll tell you what he thought, right? And then you can tell us why you're not calling him back.
Okay. So he thought that initially he screwed up with you because he had to reschedule a couple of times because he couldn't find a babysitter.
And then he thought that taking you to the steakhouse completely ruined any chance of dating you.
Well, you'd be surprised at the amount of times that I end up at a steakhouse while
people know that I'm vegan.
Really?
From the side.
Yeah.
So it wasn't bad, actually.
I had like some green beans and some mashed potatoes and I figured it out.
Oh, nice.
No salad.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it wasn't anything about the date in particular.
It's what happened after we went back to his house.
Oh, okay.
So this is going to be good.
What happened?
So we went back because I parked my car there
and I ended up going inside for a little bit
because I needed to use the bathroom.
And so I met his son for the first time.
So what happened when you saw his kid?
Oh, I guess it was just kind of a little bit
of an awkward encounter
because Mitch is in the
living room and so his son basically like i guess i'm just some kind of kid way and like you're like
the third girl this week i have seen him with so he's like he's hating on his own dad wow i know
and i put in my profile that I was looking for something serious,
that I'm interested in finding something for real, next level.
I'm not interested in dating players.
I feel like I've done that.
How old was his son?
He's maybe six or so.
Kids say the darndest things.
So yeah, he basically did.
He ratted his dad out and said that he's dating a bunch of other people.
And did you get the vibe that he wasn't dating anybody else?
I mean, I guess it didn't in particular strike me like he was some kind of player.
Like he didn't talk about his exes or I guess sometimes you can tell, sometimes you can't.
He struck me as somebody who was also interested in being like serious.
So when this kid tells me this, I'm like, well, I just feel like he's lying to me.
Like it's a red flag, you know?
And I mean, he said he had to reschedule a couple of times, which is sort of annoying.
He said, cause it was like a babysitter situation, but he had three other girls in his house.
Like now I know why.
Okay.
Wow.
That's what it is.
So you think he was canceling on you to hang out with these other women that his son told you about?
Yeah, I guess.
It was just like too many questions.
And it's just one day.
I'm like, I've just better cut my losses, you know?
Okay.
Well, thank you for telling us.
I appreciate that.
Also, I guess I should tell you that Mitch is actually on the line listening and wants to talk to you.
Wait, what?
He's on the phone?
Yes, he is. Unless he hung up up i think he's still there mitch
yes yes i'm here and can i please explain uh okay so you know how i had to cancel a few times
yeah i mean i think your son kind of did all the explaining I needed to hear already.
Yeah.
No, no, no, no.
What it is is I had babysitters coming over, and I've just been trying out new babysitters for him.
So I had probably three babysitters come over. Where were you going when you had these babysitters?
No, literally, they were just coming over so we could just, like, get to know them.
Oh, you didn't go anywhere.
Are you lying, Mitch, because a player would say that?
No, no, I swear I, because a player would say that.
No, no, I swear I'm not a player.
I have a son.
I'm really just trying to go on dates.
And honestly, I don't know, Mitch. I feel like I've been with guys like you
and I kind of really thought you were different
and then it just feels like a lot of back and forth.
And I...
Kim, I just, I really thought we had something special too.
I really, I told them
that you're someone that I would like
to bring into my family, meet
my mom, you know,
be a part of my life and I just thought
it was, I thought we had something special.
I know it was only one date but I can just
I can tell you're special.
That's sweet.
Yeah, that is sweet.
It is sweet.
It is sweet.
And Kim, would you like to go on another date with Mitch?
We'll pay for it.
How sweet would that be?
I mean, I really do like you, Mitch.
I really felt like we had a great time too.
That's why I was so freaked out after I went to your house. I was like, damn, I really thought this guy was like something special
and then that happened.
I mean,
I guess, I don't know.
So if he's telling the truth then,
would you be willing to go on another date?
I mean, I think so, yeah.
Really?
Yeah, I mean, definitely.
I would.
I would go out again.
Sweet. Sweet.
Awesome.
Seriously, thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
All right.
Congratulations, Mitch.
You got your second date.
Yes.
Thank you.
And when I get home, my son's going to be in timeout.
He should be.
